I went there tonight at 7:40 to place a carry-out order. I walked in and they said they were already closed. For a "fast" sushi restaurant, closing 20 minutes before their hours say is absolutely uncalled for. The chef behind the counter said that everything has been shut off. It's really sad, because their food is really good. I have told other people about this restaurant, but now they have lost me as a customer and I will no longer be ending people their way. There is no website to get contact information on it either. Totally unacceptable in my opinion.

AMAZING! We had the Godzilla Rolls, Philidelphia rolls, and Spicy Tuna Crunch. I keep thinking about them. The prices are very good. The service is good and fast. If I ever am in Barrington again craving sushi, I will not hesitate to come here. Hands down, best I've had in a while. And the portions are great too!

Good Sushi. Good prices. I had the miso soup and it was pretty salty, other then that all the other food was really good. The place is small, only a few tables but on a friday night we still found a place to sit. This would be a wonderful place for take out. I will be going back here again!

Its the place to go on mondays when sagano is closed.

This place is right by my school, so whenever I feel like eating sushi, I tend to gravitate here. Bad idea, Yoona, bad! The sushi is okay, but for $10+, I'd much rather go to a buffet for all-you-can-eat sushi. The main reason I'm giving this place two stars is because of the fact that their ramen is made out of normal, $0.50 ramen packets that you can find at any store. I found out about this from my friend who works here. Shame on you!

Was in the area and this was a quick place to stop by before an appointment. This place takes 'express' to heart. I was quite impressed with how quickly they got three orders of sushi to us. This is a really small place and so seating was very tight, but probably a great place to pick up orders and go. The types of specialty rolls seemed pretty standard, but were very tasty. I did try a popcorn scallop sushi which was by far my favorite. The scallops were fried, but it didn't take away from the taste of the scallop. If I am in the area again I would definitely keep this one in mind.

Stopped in for lunch and was not disappointed. I've driven past this place for months now since I work nearby. I went in and was loving the prices. For sushi, its rather average: $2-9 for rolls, and $9+ for specialty rolls. I will say they looked delicious, but I went with the lunch specials. They have a large board labeled "Today's Specials" where there are a few discounts, like $3 instead of $4 for seaweed salad. Taped onto the bottom of the board were three lunch specials, 11am-2pm and they all seemed like a good deal. All of them were $6.50, and two of the options were entirely sushi. I got the noodles deal, which was a bowl of udon soup and a crunchy spicy crab roll. Both were pretty good. Its hard to mess up udon, but I will say I wasn't fond of the sliced carrot pieces. Overall a cheap lunch so I'll be going back!

I decided to order carry out from here because it had almost ratings on Yelp, was nearby, and I am always looking for good sushi restaurants. I am a total sushi addict and a bit of a snob when it comes to raw fish. When I got home and opened the sushi, it smelled a little bit fishy. But, it wasn't horrible and I was hungry. I was stupid and decided to eat it anyways. Let's just say I paid for it later with a tummy ache. Needless to say, I will not be returning!

This place is great in a pinch for take out. I've never been blown away by how good it is but I've never been disappointed either. My family usually gets a couple rolls, sashimi and rice, bulgogi beef and chicken teriyaki . They have nice sized portions and the price is right. $39 to feed a family of 5 (2 of whom are toddlers, but still)!? Can't beat it!

Small, express/takeout or dine in casual sushi restaurant - very clean, too! I dined here yesterday (8/28/14) and was pleasantly surprised by the good quality of fish. I had a spicy tuna roll, seaweed salad and crunchy crab roll. Everything was very good. The prices are even better. It's hard nowadays to find good quality sushi at a reasonable price. I will be returning.

My prior bad review seems to have been deleted...but this place was bad enough for me to write another. Spent $90 on maki rolls for the family, which was a big mistake. Upon opening the packaging, one could smell that things were not quite right, and the taste proved the nose correct. We forced our way through a couple of pieces because we were starving, but common sense prevailed and the rest went in the trash. I didn't call to complain, because in my opinion, no sushi house with an ounce of pride could serve the product that we received, and if they care that little, my complaint would surely be ignored. The fried rice was very poor as well, as it was not fried. It was steamed rice, with sauce poured on top, and then obviously microwaved. It found the trash as well. The positive reviews here are startling. There's no way that our experience was a fluke and that they're normally spot on. There are several other places relatively close, that are actually quite good, so don't blow your cash here!

Sushi expess hits just the right balance - great sushi at an even better price. Outstanding value and really fresh, delicious sushi. The Rainbow roll is awesome. Really great.

Completely disgusting, you're better off going to Jewel next door to get sushi. It is the same quality, if not better than the sushi at Sushi Express. It was EXPENSIVE too, for what it was. Terrible, like cat food, and they got my order wrong. I will never return.

I'm going to be honest, other than Naomi's Mitsuwa is my other favorite place to have sushi. But Mitsuwa Marketplace is too far away for me, so of course I sniffed out the best and closest sushi place to me. I am what my mom likes to call a "Sushi Snob". And it's true, although I am willing and eager to try new places all the time. Naomi's goes on the top of my list. I am a salmon freak, I have been there so much and so many times that they tend to remember who I am when I call to place an order. The staff is so friendly, and so nice every time I've been in there. Even when they are super busy. It seems like they always have a smile on their face, a positive attitude and a love for what they do. Inside and out, Naomi's is amazing. I especially love Naomi, she has such a wonderful and beautiful spirit. Always talkative, and even suggests new or different things for me to try. She knows I usually stick with salmon, because I just can never get enough of salmon. I was a little sad when she told me they weren't going to make their tempura appetizer anymore, but that does not deter me. Only makes me want to try more and more of their delicious food. Overall, Naomi's Sushi Express is amazing. You couldn't ask for anything better, or such an amazing staff. Naomi truly has created a wonderful business, and she knows just what makes it tick and how to make it better. Love you guys!

I absolutely love this place. Sushi is so fresh and staff knows everyone that comes in. One guy always says my order for me when I walk in ...at times I switch it up but for the most part they come to know what u like and suggest it. If you are in the area and want sushi stop here...there is another place on the other side of the jewl you could go for a 'nice' experience and better looking environment within the business but the sushi does not match up. So good here great prices will keep you coming back.

If you want affordable, delicious, fresh sushi at an affordable price-and don't care about a trendy atmosphere-Naomi is the place for you! Their roles are good sized and always fresh. The daily specials cannot be ignored! This isn't a first-date destination, but you and your spouse will certainly appreciate the high-quality food at an affordable price. Check it out!

"Sushivana" - Best Sushi Value in the Northwest Chicago Burbs! (So Why Does Their Marketing Suck?) We went to this place last night based on the glowing reviews we read on here, along with a friend's referral. Sushigasm? Try "SushiOrgy" or "Sushivana." (Hey, I like "Sushivana" as a name for a restaurant :) We ordered all of the specialis, shared a bottle of house (hot) sake, and an asparagus beef roll. Everything was wonderful, but what stood out from the pack was the red dragon roll - made with red rice (well, really red-brown, but perfect for the fish), along with tuna and masago. These are really great portions for the price, which like one other reviewer said, comparable to what you pay for at a supermarket but much MUCH better quality. We came late around 8:30 pm on a Friday night, without any reservations, yet managed to be seated in the best place in the restaurant. I love the canopy setting for what I call 'casual romance." We only waited a few minutes for a spot, and enjoyed the leather couches in their lobby area, with a good assortment of recent magazines for men and women. The service was impeccable from beginning to end. I didn't expect everything to be timed so perfectly with delivery of all dishes to the removal of each one while another was made room for. And yes, the manager personally delivered some of our dishes like it was a movie premiere. I hear a lot about how people miss this place when they drive by. That certainly makes sense because nothing on the outside decor really stands out, and you just don't expect a sushi restaurant next to a bike shop in an unimpressive small strip-mall right on the highway to be anything to go out of your way for. Well, this is definitely the place you should go out of your way for, without question. We are going to be going back again, and again, and again, and... Like I said, "Sushivana." These guys would benefit so much from have even a basic website, not to mention a facebook page. But their only business weakness is that they seem very naive to how to market or advertise their restaurant. (Not to mention they really don't appear to have a clue about the Web or social media, or search. How many other similarly-named restaurants show up when you Google them?) The photos on here from other patrons really help us with choosing what we wanted off the menu, but I really would have liked to gotten something from them in advance on what their specials were so we could have planned ahead. (Although we did end up ordering every single special, and I got my girlfriend to try seaweed salad for the first time - and she enjoyed it!)

not the most extensive menu...but everything they feature sounds delicious! and affordable! crab/cream cheese puffs were delicious! really light flour batter and the cream cheese was perfectly light and complementary to the crab meat godzilla roll was fresh and perfectly portioned with about 8 pieces for $10 their spicy tuna was fresh...probably couldve been a little bit spicier. definitely would return and hope to try their full service restaurant next time. to describe it as sushi Express is accurate, it's more of a take-out place with just 3 sit down tables inside for those stopping in for a quick bite.

What can I say.. I LOVE NAOMI SUSHI EXPRESS!! I was a little worried at first when this place opened because literally right around the corner is another decent sushi restaurant. I have fallen in love!! The owner is amazing!! The minute I say that this is "Melissa" on the phone, she knows exactly what I want!! Gotta love that!! I have never been disappointed in anything that I have ordered. Everything has been AMAZING!! My favorites are: Spicy Tuna Rolls, Godzilla Roll (Im in my glory when they have the Giant Godzilla as a special) and the Fire Maki Honestly, I could eat here every darn day!!! The prices are SUPER awesome too!! You just can't beat the service you get there!!! Truly one of a kind!! :) Speaking of Naomi.. I am going to go pick up my sushi right now!!!

Best place in the area to get delicious sushi. Portions are just right, and so is the price. I go here at least twice a month for a year now. Very friendly Japanese staff.

One star for reasonable prices, one star for sushi quality. I decided to give this place another shot after a coworker went there and said it was pretty decent. My original thoughts were confirmed, not good. I had the Crunch Spicy Crab roll which had large dry pieces of imitation crab meat, lots of rice, little crunchies on the outside and a microscopic dot of spicy sauce. Needless to say, it was not spicy. Also, had the seaweed salad, and an Alaska roll. The seaweed salad was very bland and wound up in the garbage. The salmon on the Alaska roll did not look super fresh and was sloppily rolled. They do have Green Tea flavored Ginger Ale by Canada Dry which I happen to be a fan of so extra points for that. Looks like I'll be saving my pennies in the future and going to Nozumi for my sushi fix.

Mediocre, overpriced sushi. The nigiri pieces are small and expensive for the quality, and the rolls overuse imitation crab to give them volume. However, they do have fast service, and some cheap specials.

Kind of a small place but more than made up for with the quality of the food. I go there quite frequently and have never been disappointed. It's always made to perfection. They are in high demand so it can take a while to get an order in at times. I highly suggest calling in ahead of time. Always VERY patient and nice on the phone.

  • Don R.

Not bad, but nothing we ordered as memorible. California rolls, spicy tuna rolls were bland. Udon soup was broth and noodles-not interesting. Tuna sushi just okay. It is not expensive sushi and that is the reason of 3 not 2 stars.

  • P J.

Do NOT bother! After reading the great reviews I was shocked at how bad the sushi was. I could only eat half of what I got. Skip this place if you are wanting sushi fast just get it from the grocery store as it would be better.

Barrington is a bit of a restaurant void, there's just not much to choose from, especially if you like ethnic food. Naomi Sushi Express is like an oasis in the desert. Not only do they have great sushi, they also have a sampling of Korean dishes, like my favorite Bi Bim Bop. The sushi is very fresh, the cooked food is always fresh, hot and flavorful. Prices are very reasonable, too. There are just a few tables; it's great for take-out. The staff is always smiling and friendly. When the owner is there, she always recognizes me. I highly recommend this place!

Went to go watch a movie at the Catlow and decided to have a little sushi right before... sadly, the dinner was a big disappoint after reading these reviews. They cut the rolls extra small to make you feel like you are eating more, but then the rolls fall apart. The fish lacked flavor, it seemed like it was in the fridge for a few days and the prices are equal to a full service restaurant, not a "take out" place. Sorry, I will not be returning.

Still in love with this place! Came inside and ordered food to go and was given a bowl of miso while I waited. I got the Spider roll (again), and the Mayor roll (a special). Totally full and totally worth it!

4 stars for sushi quality. Udon not so good. Chicken soup with noodles. But for $5 ok.

Had spicy tuna roll, California roll, 4 others, all very good, fresh and tasty. Will go there again and have recommended to friends. This is more of a take-out place, though it's clean and just fine inside. I'm glad it's there!

Best bet for a quick sushi fix! Nothing earth shattering here, small menu, small prices, small building but big on value. You will get a lot for your money and won't be disappointed. All the sushi rolls I've ordered are fresh and well put together. Very friendly staff. A must try for low budget sushi connoisseurs.
