One of the better B&B's I've been to. We have already planned our next excursion to stay with them. The town has some nice offerings and isn't too far from Chicago or points northward.
What a gorgeous home. From the minute we walked up the sidewalk to the beautiful entrance we were enchanted. This home is spotless, warm and inviting. Our hostess Mary was charming and what a wonderful cook!
The Barrington House Bed and Breakfast was the perfect end to our chaotic visit to Illinois for a wedding. Mary made us feel so welcome, and her husband was very attentive and kind during breakfast. The food was delicious and had all the perfect homemade touches we look forward to while staying at B&B's. My husband and I stayed in The Whitney room and loved the fireplace at the end of the bed, and the clawfoot tub with hand held shower in the bathroom. All in all, well worth it!!

Great service, selection and prices. What more could you ask for? Oh yeah they will bring it to your seat in the movies (Catlow) so you can enjoy it while watching the movie. I love this place. The sandwiches are piled high with meats and cheeses-they don't even know how to skimp. A gem that has been here for years and after you eat there you will understand why it is a destination in downtown Barrington.
The inside is a nice quaint place. Nothing fancy and gaudy but nothing dilapidated or run down. The was efficient and polite. I would say the deli style is more new york deli (overstuffed) rather than italian. Everything i tried was delicious and when i ordered they were very helpful in my decision since i had never been there. I am moving so chances are i wont be back, but it sure wont be because the food wasn't good. It's also a great lunch spot to stop in when out for a stroll or something in nice downtown barrington.
Are you kidding me?! I don't get it. Just go to Jewel buy a couple bags(about a pound and a half) of the prepackaged generic deli meat slap a piece of bright yellow American cheese in between two pieces of wonder bread and voilà you have yourself a boloney's sandwich! Truly sucks! I mean subway is better than this joint, and subway stinks it literally smells in there.

So very good and so very special. Really love the food, you can tell the owners love what they do and put that passion into their items. I like to get the little "mice" eclairs with licorice tails for my boys. Coffee with fresh whipped cream is such a treat, as are the chocolate croissant. If you want a really special unique cake this is the place to come - you have to see them - they are little works of (tasty) art!
Fabulous coffee. Wonderful cakes and pastries; pure artistry - if you have a doubt you can watch them "sculpting" their creations while you sip a cup of their wonderful coffee. Definitely recommend Ambrosia. And, you can support a 22 year-old local business vs. Panera, Starbucks, etc.
Ambrosia is the best local spot for fresh pastries and coffee. We love getting their chocolate croissants and their stuffed savory pastries. My only suggestion for improvement is that they should make a real French baguette, instead they only make sour dough baguettes which are good but they are not the real thing.

Best pizza in the Northwest Suburbs
Great pizza. Great bar. Great people People from the motel stopping in make this place even more special. A perfect place to grab a beer after work Try the pizza u will not b disappointed
Based on the great reviews posted here, we wanted to try the Blue Heron. When we asked, we were told that the kitchen was closed "until the owner gets back because he is the cook." No indication when that would be was offered so we finished our drinks and left. Disappointing.

New store is about the same size. Same furnishings and decor. They have acoustic panels, which help with the sound. Food is good, a little pricey. They are busy almost all of the time in the new location. Probably just too trendy for my tastes. Liked the Cook Street location better. Wish they had just put up the acoustic panels at the old store.
friends from barrington raved about this spot and i can see why. food was great, atmosphere was buzzing, people were getting their food and drinks quickly, they really do an awesome job accommodating children, and the wait staff was phenomenal. you really can't got wrong with anything on the menu and the coffee's are all great, though some of the drinks are a little much for me, I'm an iced coffee guy but settled for their version of a frappachino, maybe? i don't remember but it was icy and sweet, but obviously i slammed that sucker down. i can see people coming here over and over again thanks to the great menu and wide array of food choices.
Food is always excellent. Service is always fast and friendly. One of my favorite breakfast places in the country...seriously. They also have a location in Glenview that is equally fantastic!

I am always amazed when anyone in Barrington says they have not been here yet! The food is amazing. The eggplant is what I go back for time and time again. The Gnocchi is another favorite. Anthony the bartender, makes a MEAN old fashioned. The best one around! Great ambiance, but make a reservation, this place is popular! This place continues to be one of my favorites!
Maybe I'm just not the target audience for this place, but this Italian "tapas-like" experience left me feeling unsatisfied. Food here is solid, but the cost and portion size are factors too hard for me to overlook. This was my second time dining here, I came in with a friend and we ordered two appetizers, a pasta, and a entree, which was how our friendly waiter recommended us to order. My friend has a small appetite, but in the end we were still not full and hesitant to place an order for another dish. I will say that I like the flavor profiles for each dish that I had, the freisee salad, grilled octopus, mushroom pasta, and duck breast.
There is no doubt that this is the best restaurant in the area! I had the duck and it was perfect! My wife had the chicken and she loved it! I had a piece of her chicken and it was cooked perfectly. The wine selection was adequate but a little deeper selection would be perfect. I found the staff professional and friendly. The restaurant is small and very clean. When we were there it was 90% full and not noisy. We can have a low volume conservation with out issue. Executive Chef Gaetano visited each table to ensure everyone was enjoying their experience! The only criticism I have is that they have swing waiter (Chef did this when he was not busy) and Chef not yell out when orders are up. These two items are really stretching issues.. We will be back and highly recommend! BTW, they have many gluten free items that can be made or already gluten free!

Know what I love about this restaurant besides the delicious food? The sign that shows where all of the food comes from! It is good to see a restaurant serve you food made with fresh, local ingredients. I usually gravitate towards the pastas, and have never been disappointed. There is always food left, due to the large portions (love it!). Not many Italian restaurants serve those kinds of portions anymore. I never walk out of here hungry. From the bread served when you sit down to the final bite, it is amazing through and through. I'll get around to coming here about twice a month, and it is a great place to meet a friend or speak with somebody on neutral ground. Casual atmosphere and friendly wait staff. Would recommend to anybody.
Ciao Baby has outstanding food and holds a nice place in the downtown Barrington dining scene. However, they need to up the ante on their level of customer service. My experience here last Saturday left my entire family feeling rather sour. I came here with my family to celebrate my parents' 57th and 58th birthdays. My dad had called and made a reservation on Tuesday. However, when we arrived and announced our reservation, the young hostess looked around, mildly confused, and said "Um, all our tables are full, it'll be about a 20-30 minute wait." She didn't reference any reservation book to confirm our arrival or check us in. At this point an older hostess / manager came over and outlined the same 20-30 minute wait for us. When I again asked "But we made a reservation...?", instead of elegantly apologizing and offering us drinks on the house or something, she insisted that whenever SHE dines out with a reservation, she ALWAYS has to wait. Clearly they had sat walk-ins, when they should have reserved a table for the party they took a reservation for. It's one thing if you don't take reservations, but don't take a reservation and not keep it! In customer service, when there's a messy situation, it is the business's duty to remedy the situation as elegantly as possible. Ciao Baby does not have a bar to wait at, nor a waiting area, nor any buzzer system, so we would have had to simply stand on the street for 30 minutes. No thanks. We walked over to Francesca's, explained what happened, and were seated right away, with far more sincere apologies from their hosts than we got from Ciao Baby.
What a cute Italian restaurant located right in downtown Barrington! Ciao Baby is a gem of a restaurant, and the fact that this place was packed on a Thursday night must mean that I'm not the only one who thinks so. Complementary bread with their balsamic and olive oil dip was delicious and authentic. Very chopped salad- per yelp reviews- was also an excellent pick. The candied nuts were a nice touch to add sweetness to the salad. Especially with the tasty mango chutney dressing, the full size split between 2 girls was a delicious but refreshing and light meal. Wine list is great, and prices are reasonable for an Italian restaurant. Service was excellent- more than one waiter were making sure our visit was superb. Ambience is not too romantic but a great family place or meetup with a friend type place. Would love to come back to this restaurant!
