After working in Montgomery for 9 years I've always heard good reviews about this place. Finally after a long and hot steamy day working at Louche Puce Flea Market my sisters and I decided to have a late lunch at Ballydoyle's. I ordered Cream of Chicken and Wild Rice; it was amazing. For my main dish I had Bangers and Mash. It was awesome! Too bad it's taken me this long to try. Service was good, I love the antiques. Two thumbs up!

Irish chips, and the blue cheese make me go back to Ballydoyle. 2 dollar Miller's on Thursdays.

Not that I've been starving for good service all week or the serious lack of a good Bangers & Mash for literally years, this place was a most welcomed find. Our bartender Lirim was attentive, knowledgeable and just plain fun to talk with. The fact that they even offered a true Bangers & Mash wasn't enough, it was out of this world awesome! (deep fried Italian sausages) There is a patio that over looks a downtown canal where you can eat, drink and (after 9pm) can smoke on. If all that isn't good enough for you picky cheapo's, your bill won't kill the bank.

Ballydoyle's has a really fun environment and an awesome outdoor seating space. Beer selection is always great, and their Irish chips with Bleu Cheese dressing is out of this world. For lunch and dinner not before a show at The Paramount, the service is usually fantastic. Despite how much I like this place I'm giving them 3 stars. Whenever I've tried to visit them with a large group before a show, we almost always end up being late to the performance. We show up at 5:30 to give ourselves plenty of time, we think, to make an 8 o'clock show. But that's never been the case. I think it's a great place to eat, but probably not with a big group ever again.

The restaurant was empty last night, which wasn't really surprising for a Sunday night at 4. The sign out front said "seat yourself" and we didn't have to wait too long for one of the waitresses to bring us a couple of menus and get us drinks. We started with some "award winning" potato soup and it was okay, if nothing to write home about. With some added salt and pepper it was a bit better seasoned. The grilled leeks were a nice addition though some of them were a bit woody. The fish and chips I had were pretty okay. Nothing wrong with them but nothing particularly special. I'm thinking the fish comes in frozen, which is fine. The tartar sauce was a bit overly sweet but again it was okay. The biggest disappointment, really, was the "sauerkraut" on the corned beef boxy. Sauerkraut has a very specific flavor, a salty brine to it and the acidic tang of being fermented. This was steamed cabbage. Maybe baked. Whatever it was, it wasn't sauerkraut and if they were sold it as sauerkraut they should get it from a new supplier. I'd be willing to give them another try some night. The atmosphere of the place is beautiful and the staff was friendly enough. Maybe they make fantastic burgers? I hope their other food is better than what we had because this is close enough to home and so beautiful a place that I would really like to become a regular.

I have been here a handful of times and their food is ok but their service is not good. I have come here for lunch, dinner, and even their Halloween party. I like the views of the river from the back of the restaurant and the fact that they can open up the back windows on a nice day. There is nothing on the menu that is memorable to me and we had a really horrible experience a while ago that just sealed the deal on me never going here again. My husband and I went in for dinner with the intent on using a $25 Ballydoyle gift card we had. We ordered, of course it took them forever to get our food out when no one was there, and then gave them our gift card to pay. The server came back and said that their machine was broken and couldn't read gift cards. It could do anything else but process gift cards? Um ok. I get that sometimes things break and that's just how it is and it's not the servers fault, but she didn't do anything to accommodate us when we were clearly angry. She was just staring at us waiting for a credit card. There was no solution like they will have them fixed in a couple of hours or tomorrow or even let me go get the manager so they can explain it to you. She just stared at us. So we payed with our credit card and left. My husband then came home and emailed the manager saying how rude the server was. The manager apologized and promised to mail us another $25 gift card. We gave them our address but never received it. My husband emailed the manager back to say we never received it and never got a response. Whatever, I shredded the gift card because I don't want to come back anyway.

Irish food and good beer, what's not to like??? Love when they have bands or dancers, staff has always been great, love the menu. Also love sitting outside to enjoy a drink by the river, great location

I literally crave their bangers and mash! The fish and chips are incredible as well. They give huge servings, and the food taste so great that I still can't help but eat it all. The atmosphere sets this place apart as well. I love taking friends here who are new to town.

I'm here right now having a great time! Good food, drinks and friendly servers! I had the shepards pie, very delicious. Affordable prices. They have bands every weekend.. "Hinge" is here tonight, pretty good. Only complaint is the bathroom, tables and windows could be a little cleaner and the band could be just a tad quieter. I will definitely return!

Not real sure about this one. The food was just ok. We had a decent waitress I think the staff is very helpful and knows the menu. We went on a crazy busy night. Red Woody (band) was there. We actually came to see Mike and the boys play. The food had more of a chain feel. no real personal touch. It tasted good but didn't blow me away. They have a decent beer selection. The prices were low to moderate. This building is huge so you could bring a party to the party. Definitly good for a second try.

This place is cool! What a pleasant surprise. It is located right on the river so you can eat outside and enjoy the scenery or stay inside and enjoy the awesome atmosphere. In terms of capturing an "Irish bar feel" they nailed it! The decor is awesome, music is on point and it had a ton of character. In addition the food is actually pretty awesome! My wife and I both liked everything we got! There are a couple tvs inside in case you wanted to keep an eye on your team. However, the tvs are not obnoxiously big and there are not so many of them that one would be distracted by them. In fact I hardly noticed them. There is tons of space and it's good for groups. I will certainly be coming back here very soon!

I'm glad I read the Yelp reviews before checking out Ballydoyle, as we went out of our way to sit at the bar since it's sort of difficult to be actually sitting at a bar and getting bad service. (I mean, it's possible, but, yeesh.) Anyway, looking around, it was pretty obvious if you weren't sitting at the bar you were forever stuck playing the "Where is our server?" game- Lots of people with empty drinks craning their necks around and the like. But, anyway, the beer list here is very above average for Aurora. They've got a lot of great stuff on tap, and even more in bottles. Food was good too, we started with fried pickles which came as spears instead of slices which I vastly prefer. I got a pot roast boxty, which is really something you've got to try, as it sort of broke my brain. Essentially, it's like a giant pot roast taco wrapped in a pancake. The mix of sweet and savory worked oddly well, to the point that I was pretty shocked by how much I was enjoying it. It makes me wonder what else I can wrap in a pancake. Atmosphere was pretty great, but we went there on a night where there wasn't any music being played or any relevant sporting events on. I could imagine this place being a real mad house when either of those things happen. Menu prices seem just a ~tad~ high for the downtown Aurora area, but I suppose everything seems expensive when you're around the corner from taco places that serve you so much food you feel like you could barf for less than $10.

WE drove from Morris, IL for the Face Paint Fridays. It was a good time. My face was painted like a lizard and hers was clown (why a clown freaked me out). Service is good, food is good, portions small and pricey. We were in the beer garden which is nice. the Fox River is stinky but we all watch two turtles banging from the garden everyone cheered.

New dress code for the waitresses is sexist and disqusting. Short skirts and slutty tops are great for trashy places like tilted kilt and hooters but a place that had been a family favorite for years i think not. The food has always been mediocre at best over the last year or so. Their fish and chips is bland and the last time was almost soggy. Two people on our party had to return their dishes because they were pretty much inedible this last time. After years our family will not be returning and until they stop treating their young waitresses like sex objects I recommend you don't either.

Tuesday nights - 1/2 price apps and drafts!! We don't score a free babysitter on Tuesday nights very often but when we do this is our spot. We love the back deck in the summer. We've tried nearly all of the appetizers and the food never disappoints.

  • Stacy H.

I gave them 4 stars for the loaded corned beef boxty. It was very good. We were here on a Monday night. There was maybe 25 people. (that's counting the 7 of us) There was a very long wait for the waiter to take our orders. Then it took even longer for the food. The longest of all waits was for the check and for him to come back and take out form of payment. So if you're not a patient person you might want to rethink going. The place is very quaint and adorable. Loved the decor. I would recommend going but don't be to upset with the wait. Just go enjoy the food and talk with friends.

I like to go to Ballydoyle's Irish Pub for the beer and bands, and that's about it. I've never been too impressed by the food (especially the boxty...ew). Got the incinerator burger one time and the incinerator sauce was so hot you couldn't even eat it. I love spicy foods, but it was not flavorful at all...just hot as hell. Irish chips are okay, but they put some kind of sugar on them to make them sweet and I'd much rather them salty when I'm drinking. I had my most recent birthday here with friends and family, and the staff were very accomodating. They worked with me through email and over the phone to help me set up a date and reserve a room....for free. They also offer specialized menus that you can design and open bars, but of course that costs extra. The customer service you receive when dining-in is wishy-washy. I've had great servers and I've had very poor servers. It gets packed on the weekends and I think that has a lot to do with it because they get assigned too many tables to wait on and become overwhelmed. Like I said, it's best to just go here to drink and listen to the bands. They are opening one in Downtown Naperville and I'm pretty excited about that. They always have great events going on, which you can find on their website. Decent place overall. Nice atmosphere, with great music and an awesome selection of beer. Just need to improve their food.

i did like this place for the decent cheap wings until I used the bathroom once and one of the waitresses left out of the stall and just walked out. She did not wash her hands. I did tell management but Im not sure what came of it. I have yet to be back since. It use to be a tradition to go for my friends and I. I do like the environment, but that did scare me that the waitress didn't wash her hands.

I went to this restaurant about 2 years ago and yesterday. Both times I had to wait about 5 minutes until wait staff came to my table. Terrible! The food is very good but yesterday my burger was rare when I asked for it to be done medium. Also I really hate how their fries have that fake crispy coating on them. Fries are much better as they are without putting some kind of gimmicky chemical coating on them. For the guys, the waitresses are pretty and wear short catholic school girl skirts. Location is great. You can walk the Riverwalk before and/or after you eat. I would eat here again. :)

Good place to catch a band or get some food. (Not both) If you go their when it's not crowded it's very nice dinning experience. But, don't try to go out for a nice meal in the middle of live event. The service sucks then, and the food quality seems to take a huge step down. GET THE POTATO SOUP!!!! It's really good. Also a great desert is their bread pudding (which I usually don't like in general, but there's is very good.) This place is very casual and laid back. They have a Trivia night that is really cool too. They also have a huge list of beers and other adult beverages. Good place to watch a game too.

The food here - 50 stars. Environment/ Ambience - 50 stars Beer List - 50 stars The wait staff both times we've been here - Negative 146 stars. (And i'm usually really lenient as I used to be in service work myself.) All in all, still a good experience despite the idiots they seem to like to hire. Candlelit dinner on a Whiskey barrel in an old irish pub-style restaurant. Great beers, listed by country or state. Looks like there's a cool outdoor patio, haven't checked that out yet. Rushing water below the bridge outside is cool as well. It'll be updated to 5 stars if i get just one good waiter/waitress. I don't go here often though.

Always great food. A bit dirty dank feeling but it is a Irish pub. Great booze selection lots of new beers. Food is generous quality staff us always very nice. Music nights are turned up to 11.

Great restaurant. I had the pulled pork. Came out the way I ordered it. One of our parties plates had something wrong with it. We let the waitress know so hopefully it wouldn't happen to someone else. The manager came out and went above and beyond our expectations.

I think the best time to go here is when they have live music. If you can get a spot at the bar, that's the way to go. Although they do have lots of seating, it feels awkward to be away from most of the action (unless you're on a first date, perhaps. Don't take her here though). The servers seem confused and like to stand around and talk a lot. I've had a different bartender every time. They all were very polite, friendly, quick and knowledgable about their beer selection. I'm not sure I'd go here again for any purpose other than drinking, however. I've gotten a few appetizers and an entree and felt I'd have been better off just eating beforehand and not spending the money. It's not terrible but it's certainly nothing special.

This place is pricccccey. Went here on St. Patrick's Day and it was a 10 dollar cover....at 1 pm. Seriously? I get it, you're an Irish bar and it's St. Patrick's Day but ten bucks in the middle of the day? Whatever, I paid and went in. The building itself is pretty nice and it is big. Went to the bar and asked the specials for today. Bartender said there weren't any specials. AN IRISH BAR WITH NO DRINK SPECIALS ON ST PATRICK'S DAY. That is just wonderful. All in all, spent 90 bucks there on myself between food and drinks. Would never go back. Nothing memorable about the place, bartenders are rude, servers take forever.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! Amazing food, the beer selection it's ridic. The service has always been great We usually seat at the bar and we always feel comfortable with the bartenders, they are on top of it. Must try the Reuben bites. Addicting!

This is a pretty good local place to go for a drink and some greasy food. The beer list is predictable though there are some interesting choices. The whisky selection is very nice and they have flights which is great. I like some of the Irish grub too, especially the bangers and mashed. Sausages and mashed potatoes are a couple of my favorite comfort foods. The staff is inconsistent though the Irish waitress we had the last time we visited was really charming. My only serious knock on the place is the parking situation. There's very limited street parking and it's not in the best place for night walking. No offense Aurora.

  • Lori H.

yeah....ok, so the waitress charged us for drinks before we got them, because i did not want to open a tab with a credit card. Then, she pre charged us for food. Then, I complained to the manager, Holly, who never made it to our table.Holly offered us a free round, but we're one drink people, although i did tell her a pop or water would be great. Nope. Did not happen. Dive establishment. Crazy waitress. Ugly grungy bathrooms. Well-groomed crowd that must come in from the casinos. Not a redo for us.

I had the corned beef boxty which in theory sounded awesome BUT the corned beef was pretty fatty. Taste was excellent. My husband had the meatloaf and it was disgusting. If I ever had dog food I think this would be comparable. The gravy tasted like it was from a giant ghetto can...absolutely disgusting. I gave them 3 stars cause the service was good and the drinks were excellent. If coming here... Skip the food and go for the drinks.

Came here to "work" on a project with my biz-oss Richard (he was hangry) The wait staff was really nice and attentive. The music is pretty boss here. We had trouble concentrating on our work. Ballydoyle also has a pretty extensive beer menu, if we werent on the clock (and poor) we wouldve gotten some brews. The space here is really big and they have live bands here which is cool. I wlll be back for some beers when im in the area!

What a dump. A royal dump... This place is a massive stinking pile of joke. It's nothing more than a Hooters masquerading as a Bennigans - if you've read my review of Bennigans you know where I'm going with this. I have no interest in their food - bland and atypical of a wannabe Irish restaurant. This type of place wouldn't even survive a day in Orland Park - home to the largest population of Irish in Chicago. The bar service is sad - almost all domestic piss beer with a few atypical Irish beers and whiskey's. I'm not a fan of wannabes and this place is the king of poserville. Lose the domestic bland junk and at least upgrade to craft awesomeness as well as offer a much larger selection of Irish imports and perhaps, just perhaps, I'll consider returning. Tack on the cheapness that is downtown Aurora and that God awful senior citizen mouse trap across the street and you have the recipe to open the gates of hell. This coming from an Auroran - I'm willing to bash that pit like area without a second thought. This place caters to the ultra meathead douche bag very well. If you dig Affliction wearing, wife beating idiots then this place is perfect for you. I rarely jump all over a place on Yelp but this place deserves it. Don't bother responding either, random Ballydoyle employee/meathead owner.

If I could, I would give this 3.5 stars. We came here on a Saturday for lunch - not busy at all. Service was attentive. Beer list is good and they now have a significant bourbon menu. Husband had a bourbon walk which he found enjoyable. We started with the chips and blue cheese dip. Chips are slightly sweet and the dip is pretty good. I ordered the tuna salad which was ok. The tuna was good but they probably dumped 2 cups of wonton noodles on the salad and there was quite a bit of dressing. So, it was an uneven entrée. My daughter had a soup and sandwich combo that she enjoyed. My husband had the fish and chips which I tried. I found the batter fell off the fish and seemed oddly doughy inside. My husband enjoyed it but said it seemed greasy - which I suppose a fried dish is - but it was noticeable. My daughter had a small brownie dessert which was actually quite large. We would eat here again as its a nice place to relax on a Saturday afternoon with helpful wait staff and decent food.

Went here for belated Christmas lunch today. Place was empty and service was very slow. When food finally did come my bosses soup was cold. He asked the waitress for a warm one. Took another 10mins for a cup of soup. Coworkers flat bread was cold also. I had the sampler appetizer. Fried stuff was cooked to long but came out cold to the touch also.

I've been here two times and each time the service was not attentive. There was about 3/4 tables and 1 person at the bar. I sat at the bar to do paperwork and waited at least 10/15 mins for sumone to say anything to me. When they finally came around, they seemed nice but not very social. I tried the spinach articoke dip, I did not like it all. The atmosphere is definitely my style. I would love to try this place at night or when they have bands playing.

I come here usually during lunch hour since it's close. Food is good Ive tried the burgers & sandwiches, service is nice & friendly accommodating waitstaff. Good atmosphere with plenty of room, there's also a back patio area overlooking the river.

My girlfriend and I come here multiple times a month. We love it here. I even performed here on one of their open mic nights(which are every Wednesday). Everything is good here. From the seasonal menu to the beer menu. Favorite brew is Firestone double jack. Just an FYI though, if you use the check in to get free Irish chips don't expect the blue cheese dip and same size.

Magnificent pub. Warm, friendly, great value and great food. The atmosphere is lively and the people, both staff and patrons, make you feel welcome. The GM Holly has her arms wrapped around the whole operation and is as magnificent a Pub GM as I have ever scene. I highly recommend a stop at Ballydoyle if you are in Aurora!

Stopped in for the first time today, the lunch menu was pretty delicious. Ate off of the pick 2 menu with Shepherd's Pie and Guinness Irish Stew, both were great and super filling. I will definitely be going back for more, especially the Shepherd's pie.

I was here at the grand opening and have also frequented this place many, many times since then. This, however is my first and overall review. Food: 4 stars... they actually have really good food here. I have tried their salads, burgers, wings, appetizers, etc! I've never really had a bad experience with their food. To be honest, I've noticed the portions decreasing a little and the price point remaining the same. This is fine if the quality of the food increases, but, I have seen that flip-flop more recently. Beer: 5 stars... the beer selection here is pretty amazing. They always seem to have something new to try and the cost for beer is pretty standard across the board. If you haven't tried it yet, get the Milk Stout Nitro from Left Handed Brewing Co. WOW! It's like the chocolate milk of beers:) Hats off to Bally for always incorporating new and exciting beer selections. Bar Staff: 5 Stars... AMAZING bar staff... even when things are crazy, they find a way to interact and make the expereince fun. They never short pour the drinks or trade out shelf liqour i.e. you pay for one type of gin, they pour another. They take the time to make sure things are correct and that you are happy with the food and drink you order. It really comes across like they are happy you are there. I haven't received the same treatment at other nearby bars. There is only one exception to this rule... if someone from the waitstaff jumps behind the bar! Which brings me to my next area of rating: Service Staff: 3 Stars... This is what dissapoints me most about Ballydoyle. Service unfortunately is either hit or miss. Whether or night is busy or slow... it doesn't matter. Most recently, yesterday to be exact, we had a server that came off prickly and it felt like she really didn't want to be there... but had to be. That sucks when you are on the receiving end of it. ATTENTION BALLY: Servers are the face of your company... when they are passionate about the experience, when they can pair beer wih food, and when they show gratitude that you are there... you will bring in more money. Please, fix this. General Atmosphere: 4 stars... You can escape in this place. It's fun and warm, and it's neat to look at all the design and decorations... most of which is from Ireland. Its great to bring friends and family too. If you haev younger ones I would bring them in the day time for lunch or early dinner. It has done a graet deal to enhance downtown aurora and I am glad it's here. Overall Rating: 4 stars... I So want to give this place 5 stars but there is always something that is holding me back from doing it. Hopefully, they can make improvements with Service Staff and food quality. I would love to give an updated review reflecting that.

Threw an impromptu Going-Away party here last Thursday, by default, since choices are limited in Aurora and this place closed at 1am. I've been to the BD in Downer's Grove and had a GREAT time. I did enjoy the food here but the service, not so much. The bartender looked like he didn't want to be there and was super slow. Evangeline, my server, made me feel like it was time to go home when it was only 11pm. When we came in, the first area was only about 1/3 full. Our party practically filled up the rest. I ordered food at my table and as I'd get up to mingle, she'd pre-buss my plate when I wasn't done eating. I told her several times to just leave the food since everyone is just picking at it. Around 12am, my fiancé asked her if we could take a group picture on the stage to which she replied "Yes." He then asked if she didn't mind taking it, which she replied (annoyed) "Ughh I guess. Whatever." We got 1 of our friends to take it instead since she was so rude about it. While we were on stage, we can see the workers were at the end of the bar just looking at us, with their arms crossed and disgusted/annoyed looks on the their faces. I've been in the service industry for many years, and you NEVER show your guests how frustrated you are, no matter what. I wish I can give this place zero stars but Yelp won't let me. Food is fantastic here. Hopefully, whenever I return, Evangeline will be having a better day.

Service behind the bar sucked, pretty much had to show your tits to get someone to come over and get u a drink. And even then that might not have worked. Usually never any parking, so you have to find a lot or go down another street. The crowd is like going to ur goddamn high school reunion, seeing people u don't want to see, consistently. Or it's like hanging out with ur parents. The place is pricey. The decor is nice, but this is not on my list of places to go to have a drink or eat.

I've grown to be highly disappointed in Ballydoyle over the years... The Aurora location is no exception. My problem is usually with the tab and the food. The food is just ok. It has gone downhill significantly over the years. The prices went up and the quality went way down! I'd really rather spend my money somewhere else for better quality food. You're entire party can just order sandwiches and you'll be amazed at how much you'll be paying! The food tends to be on the greasy / bland side as well. There are definitely other places to go if you're looking for quality Irish food at a reasonable price! There is always a mass of people there in the evenings... A rush coming in from the Casino more than likely. If you want a seat on St. Patrick's Day, you best get there early... I mean EARLY! And plan to stalk people for a seat. They have a cover charge starting early in the day (as they do for some bands in the evenings throughout the year). Though this may be the only time of the year that you'll get to see some really good Celtic bands!

Nice selection of local microbrews on tap. Okay menu, great room to see a band. Place looks a lot older than it is, getting a little beat around the edges, actually. But fun place to go in downtown Aurora. TIP: if you've got a Hollywood Players club card, park in the Casino parking garage and save a couple bucks!

Meh. That pretty much sums it up. Service was not great but not terrible. I feel they could have been more attentive considering I was one of three tables there. Soda was flat. The corned beef was pretty good. The Irish chips are most definitely not worth the two dollar upcharge. I'm seeing reviews of the Irish chips and something about a blue cheese side. There was no appearance of blue cheese with mine...just a pile of oily potato chips masquerading around as something fancy but ultimately just blah tasting.

I have been to this place on five separate occasions, all at varying times from afternoon to late night, and various levels of alcohol intake. Each time, I have found the staff rude, the food under or over cooked and often greasy, and the clientele stuffy. My least favorite experience had to be the night that a group of friends went in after parent teacher conferences (about 18 people, more or less), and when we asked if there was room elsewhere (all tables were full) the waitress was rude and told us there was no room for us. Yes, I know your first comment would be "call ahead," however we did not know so many people would show, and the night we chose was a typically slow night. Otherwise, we would have. On the other hand, do you want the business of a dozen and a half teachers who need respite from the job, or no? Either way, we were treated poorly, and it will never again be a meeting place for any group I go out with. The bartender that evening was good, he actually treated us like customers instead of a nuisance like the initial waitress.

Big Fan of Ballydoyle! My (now) husband and I used to go every Thursday night when we started dating. $2 drafts and karaoke was definitely the way to celebrate the "unofficial start to the weekend!" They have since gotten rid of Thursday night karaoke, which completely bummed me out (although my wallet suggests otherwise). I have been here on NUMEROUS occasions. It's a favorite hangout place for me and the co-workers, and generally, a fun atmosphere. If you go, request to sit in Bea's section---best server in the place :)

I love Ballydole, this place clean & spacious Staff is friendly! Try their fish & chips it's delicious! One of the best bars/ pub in Aurora!

I have been here a bunch of times since they opened. It tends to be really loud, which is not my scene. However, the back patio on a nice night is wonderful. The prices are a bit steep and the food is standard bar fare. The only thing of note is the fried pickle. It's an okay bar in downtown Aurora.

So after awhile, I decided to go back to Ballydoyle with my friend. Hey it's St. Paddy's weekend, why the hell not? Since I love the Irish Chips, I ordered that. I do not know what happened in a year's time, but they were awful. The chips themselves were okay. But the warm bleu cheese sauce was the consistency of watery soup. The last time I was here, I remember the sauce was thicker and had bleu cheese chunks. This was not good, especially when I'm charged an extra $2.00 for the bleu cheese. I like the bar itself and it's in a good location. And for a week night, the place had a good size crowd. But the one fact that is a little off-putting is the service. The waitresses are always slow to come and take an order. I don't know if the "seat yourself" concept throws them off or what. But this seems to be a problem every time I come in. Though once a waitress does come over, the service is good. I had ordered beef tacos and was served chicken tacos. The server caught the mistake and immediately comped the tacos. I appreciated that. I still don't know if I will be rushing back here any time soon, especially since my beloved Irish Chips were not up to par. This is now an "okay" instead of "I'm dying to go there" type of place.

We have eaten here many times now. Service Can be spotty depending on how busy they are. Also they seem to have a higher than average turnover in wait staff. Food If it comes out hot, its good. The corned beef sandwiches and Reubens are really good. Their chips appititzer is really good. Shepards pie - ok. Cod - ok. Fries - good. Drinks They always pour a perfect pint of Guiness at the right tempurature. The other selections of beer are good. I have never had spirits such as, bourbon, scotch, wine or a mixed drink their so i can't comment on that. Decore Is great rustic in an irish way with alot of the furniture coming from Ireland. You will see old chandilers (sp?) church pews, etc. Its a fun eclictic atmosphere. Patio Sat outsside for the first time the other Day June 8th for dinner with the family. I had heard it can get buggy out there due to the river next to it. It was clean, large and very comfortable. We never considered Ballydoyle for outdoor seating in the past but now we will.

I met some friends here that were visiting from out of town. This place is HUGE. I need to come back on a band nite and see it full. We seated ourselves and didn't get any attention. Finally, when one from our table went to get menus, the server decided to come around. They didn't seem to busy and had about 4 servers on the floor. My friends don't eat much, they ordered the 40-cent wings in multiple flavors. I ordered some wings and a burger. The burger was good (bacon cheeseburger). My friends like the fries, and we had the fried donuts for dessert, plus some to take home. Basic bar fare. When it came time to pay the bill, it was 63.58. I paid with a $100 bill and the server gave me $31 change back. I didn't know if it was a mistake or if he wanted to tip himself, so I had to wave him back down and give him the check presenter back. He figured he shorted me $5. Apparently, all coins go to the servers benefit (or only since it was under 50 cents)? Since he pre-tipped himself the change, I think I left $10 more.

Noticing Ballydoyle opened early (10:00 AM) on Sunday morning, we decided to check them out for the first time after church. We arrived around 11:30 and we were just about the only customers in the place. No problem getting a table as we were invited to sit where we wished. We ordered our drinks and an appetizer, which came reasonably quick and we were given ample time to review their extensive lunch menu. Our server however, seemed a bit cool and indifferent and it took quite a while for him to return to take our lunch orders. There were four of us in our party and we each ordered something different, giving us a good sampling of the variety that does exist on the menu. We started off with an order of the Fried Pickles ($5.95). They were excellent but the appetizer only came with 5 pickles so you'll likely need more than one order if there is more than two of you dining. As for the entrees, one of us ordered the "Lunch Box", ($12.95) which was a lightly beer battered haddock fried to a golden brown and served with fries and a side of peas and coleslaw. She proclaimed it "excellent" and reminded her of her New England home where haddock is very popular. Another of us ordered the Chicken Pot Pie $13.95) and her eyes were bigger than her stomach and was unable to finish the huge portion that was filled with carrots, potatoes, peas and chunks of tender chicken topped with a delicious puff pastry. She pronounced it "very good". The third member of our party ordered the Patty Melt ($9.95), which is served with the traditional marble rye bread, with American cheese and grilled onions and comes with fries. It was deemed "tasty and good". I ordered the Reuben Sandwich that came with a generous portion of their slow braised corned beef, served with 1000 island, swiss cheese, and sauerkraut. It was tasty but I also noted the corned beef seemed a bit on the dry side, even with the dressing. I chose Ballydoyle's "Irish Chips" as a substitute for fries ($1.50 per sub) and an order of warm bleu cheese dipping sauce ($2.00). Both the chips and sauce were quite tasty. All in all, I give Ballydoyle's a 3 star rating but it has tons of potential. It's right on the river bank across the street from the Hollywood Casino in the heart of downtown Aurora. It has an outdoor patio which would be very nice on a warm day and the interior is decorated very tastefully with an authentic Irish Pub feel to it. As for the cons. Cool, aloof service. Considering the help outnumbered the customers 5-1 when we were there, we should have been treated like kings and queens. We weren't. Price. $78 including tip seems a bit pricey for lunch, considering half our party ordered sandwiches. Their $1.50 substitution charge felt more like a gouge considering I gave up fries for chips and the $2 for a cup of bleu cheese sauce also seemed excessive. I'll certainly be back (planning an event this Friday as a matter of fact) but there were a few things that left me wanting. Fix those things and I could definitely see 4 stars in this hot spot's future.

Too-ra loo-ra loo-ral! Oh Danny boy, these Irish eyes were smiling when my order of Irish chips came out. They were amazingly delicious, as was the blue cheese dipping sauce that accompanied it. I would have ordered more, but I had loaded cornbeef boxty coming. Mmm MMm, it must have been the lucky o' the Irish on my side cus I was on a roll. I wasn't done yet, because the bread pudding I ordered was some of the best I'd tried in a long time. I'll defintely be back soon. The feel off this place is great and the service is excellent. This place gets 4.5 stars, and it would be a solid 5 if the prices were a little lower. The bill can add up quickly for dinner... but... they do have half off any pints on Tuesdays. Woo!

Went to the Ballydoyle for a cure to the late night munchies with friends. Sense we just went for a snack we decided to just get a couple of Appetizers to share. We ordered the Irish chips with blue cheese sauce and the Potato skins. The irish chips here are amazing. It was great to see the blew cheese sauce was loaded with actual blue cheese and the chips here are home made. The Potato skins here were also tasty but OMG what a rip off. They cost $8 and they only gave us 5 small skins. Seriously I felt like walking to the kitchen and asking were the rest of our skins were. They came on this giant dish and they were sooo small. The atmosphere here is great. Really what more can you ask for then a irish bar with a view of people getting arrested outside (seriously the Aurora PD stopped in that night). All in all this place could be a 4 star restaurant if they just had bigger portions.

First off let me just say how ridiculously huge this place is. It goes on pretty much forever which is great if you have a large group as we did. The decor is what you'd expect from an Irish pub with lots of wood, most of which seemed salvaged. The bathrooms were especially neat with the stalls constructed from old doors and the bottle bottom wall art. That last part will make no sense unless you see it. Sadly the food wasn't as stellar as the decor and the service was a bit slow too. Maybe it was the fact that we had a party of 12 though the restaurant was hardly packed. That still wouldn't explain the lack of flavor of my fish n chips. That said, I'm an Irish lass so if I were in the area I'd give it another go. The beer list is stellar, particularly the draught mixes so if all else fails a liquid meal it shall be!

Poor service means I will not return. After being seated, my companion & I were ignored for 15 minutes. Finally ordered drinks. They took another 15 minutes for some reason? The food was decent, but did not make up for the piss-poor service. Will not return. Period.

Went to grab some lunch on a quiet & cold Saturday afternoon. Place was scattered w/ few tables occupied & some single patrons at the bar. I was surprised to hear a fussy, whining child at one table. Ordered something like "corned beef bites". It was meat & cream cheese battered and then deep fried-brillant! Also had the Harp battered fish & chips-another excellent choice. They had beer bread on the specials menu not expecting I would be taking home a huge, full loaf of bread. Fed the family for a week! Great, fun addition to the downtown area. Talented local bands play here I think most w/ends. Easy parking around the corner in the Casino lot. Can't wait to return & try the "boxty".

We come week after week and the service continues to get shittier and shittier! It takes 20 mins for someone to even take your order and then another 30 mins to even get drinks! If you have nothing to do for 3 hours then I guess you would find this place enjoyable. Otherwise don't come in here hungry cause you will have to wait for who knows how long.... Drinks are hot and the foods cold. Time to find another hang out place!!!!

Ballydoyle is basically your typical, run-of-the-mill Irish pub, except for one thing: Boxty. What is a boxty, you ask? It's an Irish potato pancake, and Wikipedia tells me that translates to "poor house bread" in Irish. Well, ship me off to the poor house, 'cause I want to eat boxty every day! Ballydoyle offers several different kinds, filled with chicken, steak, or corned beef, and I decided to go with chicken. It was delicious: a potato pancake wrapped around chicken, spinach, peas, and mushrooms in a white wine cream sauce, topped with sour cream and served with mashed potatoes on the side. Holy carbs, Batman! The only problem was that filling was more "warm" than "piping hot" - it probably could have used a few seconds in the microwave or something. But I was so hungry that I didn't feel like sending it back, so I ate it. The leftovers tasted even better heated to the appropriate temperature the next day. My boyfriend ordered the shepherd's pie, which was fine, but didn't blow him away. Like my entree, it was definitely very rich. Dieters beware. They have a nice selection of Irish whiskeys, scotches, and beers, though as Erin S. mentioned, you won't find too many craft beers. I'm not a beer connoisseur, so I'm okay with that. Also, they have Magners on tap. Score! And if you're tired of the same old Black and Tan, they have some fun "beer cocktails" for you. I tried a "Red Witch," which was Harp, cider, and black currant juice. Sweet and sassy (like me, obvs). For dessert, I tried a "Nutty Irishman," one of their coffee drinks, spiked with Frangelico and Bailey's and topped with whipped cream. Yum! I'm teetering between three and four stars here...I think I have to go with three since the prices are not at all cheap. Nevertheless, we'll be back! That boxty is calling me.

I went to Ballydoyle last Saturday night with a group of about 15 people. It took over 15 minutes to get greeted then another 15 minutes to get drinks. A member of our party had her drink forgotten TWICE then resulted in another 25 minutes + to get her drink TWICE. The server did not apologize once just gave a smirk and walked away. The service was the worst I ever had. The server was extremely rude and had a bad attitude. I get that you're busy and you have other tables but disappearing for over 15 minutes at a time is not acceptable. And when we ask for a menu 4 times and you still fail to bring us one (when it happened to be 10 feet away) then I'm really going to get mad. He also happened to say, "you're not my only table, I don't have time to sit here and fight with you about what you need." ..... WOA The people at our table were constantly getting up and moving around to the dance floor etc. so it wasn't like all 15 of us were asking for something at once. At the most it was maybe 5 drinks at a time. I worked in restuarants for 6 years and never have I ever treated my customers like this or was it acceptable. In every restaurant I would have been fired on the spot. We asked another server to speak to a manager and he was rude as well and said they're too busy. I'm sorry but if I ask to speak to a manager there's obviously a problem and you think any employee who actually cared about their employment and tip would jump to it. I give this establishment 2 stars only because when we did finally get to speak to a manager (who we had to go find on our own) he was apologetic and got us some free apps and drinks.

I go there every once in a while and last night was the first Thursday I've ever been to Ballydoyle's. Not as crowded as the weekend but still pretty full, just about every table filled up. Their beer selection is increasing and they even had a couple tasty IPA's, yummy! I guess Monday and Thursday is 25 cent wing night. $3 for a dozen wings (had the buffalo flavor, very good), can't beat that! Usually they have some kind of music playing, and last night was no exception. Pretty good sounding acoustic band (two guitarists, keyboardist, and drummer) not sure what their name was but they kept the crowd happy with some even dancing even though there was little room to dance because of the set up that night. They played a little bit of everything from Santana to bluegrass/country to REM. Good time for me and 3 friends, one them being their bday. Would recommend checking out their website to see what bands or stand up comedian acts are coming. But stopping by whenever, you can't go wrong either. Aurora needs more cool bars like this!

Loud and HUGE this place is amazing on a full-house night. Great menu both adult libations and food. A little for everyone within the bounds of a great pub. Great acts, great location, though parking is practically non-existent--with exception of nearby (fee) Hollywood Casino parking deck. It's a shame they charge a cover fee or else, we'd come here instead of Quigley's in Naperville.

I'm surprised at the negative reviews. Yes sometimes the parking is a bit tough, but it's never that crazy, and ignore the attendants, you can park in the garage wherever you're going! So, I have been to Ballydoyle several times, and I think the food is really delicious, some of our faves are: Pulled Pork Sandwich, Chicken Sandwich, The Club, and The Guinness Stew are total winners, skip the Shepherd's Pie unless you want tons of potatoes, and no meat. The bar is a great place to linger. Really personable bartenders, reasonably priced drinks, and TVs for all the games. What keeps me away from the 5 stars is the insane 180 it does when there are lives bands or special events. The beer prices jump, there is a cover- I agree is ridic at a restaurant/bar and it is crazy crowded/loud. Final say: Great place for a casual, delicious meal - but know before you go. If there's a band playing there, you may want to reconsider.

I think we got sick from the reuben sandwich. It tasted like the meat was sitting around and went bad, minimal saurkraut and no dressing. waiter was nice. lemonade was good, but the upset stomach later was not pleasant.

After going to the Ballydoyle in Glen Ellyn a couple of times, I was excited when I first heard that they were opening one in Aurora too. Not only is it, of course, closer to me, but it's nice to have something new and vibrant in the formerly waning downtown Aurora area. I also think this Ballydoyle is bigger and cleaner than the one in Downer's Grove. It is set up better, has a bigger stage for bands, a nicer outdoor area, etc. The food is really, really good. I've had a lot of different things on the menu, and all of them have been great. Almost all of their appetizers are just awesome. I love the slightly sweet Irish chips, the macaroni and cheese bites, the cornbeef bites, and the spinach and artichoke dip. Their potato soup (which they have daily) is so creamy and flavorful, I could slurp up buckets of the stuff. My favorite meal has to be the bangers and mashed though. I find myself ordering it every time I go now. I can't help myself. As far as drinks go, it's pretty standard. And that's probably why I find myself not coming here as often as I could. I love me a good martini, a nice stiff cocktail, or an awesome craft beer. Ballydoyle doesn't really excel in any of those things, so unfortunately instead of finding myself here on a Friday or Saturday night, I opt for some my more favorite bars and breweries. Don't get me wrong, this is pretty much a standard bar that would please just about most drinkers, but I think as of late, I'm not really your "average" drinker anymore...I'm kinda a booze snob. But I digress...I definitely crave a Guinness from time to time, and when I do, Ballydoyle is where I want to get one. They also have a new IPA on tap, which is an average IPA, but for me it's better than no IPA at all. I really like the decor, which consists of kinda used up and recycled parts of tables, chairs, doors, etc. I think it looks really neat, but after sitting on the hard-as-rocks wooden chairs for a while, your ass will start to hurt, and you find yourself wanting to move on to a more comfortable setting. The bathrooms are always clean and pretty awesome decor-wise. I love the wine bottles stuck in the wall around the mirrors. The service is pretty good. I've been there quite a bit, and only one server really has stood out as being exceptional. Although the bar seems to be pretty slow. They take forever to pour beers and make drinks and that's when they're not even that busy. I also don't like the uniforms they make the girls wear. Kinda cheesy. We tried watching a sports game once there, and it was a little hard to do. They only have a few tvs at the bar and they are relatively small. I'd prefer to watch games elsewhere. They also have pretty good bands playing on the weekends, but I was never a fan of what they were charging as a cover for some of them. About the same price as better bars, with better bands in the city. They have seemed to cut back on the cover charge though. I've found that most times I go, there isn't one at all, which is nice. All in all, I like Ballydoyle. I probably really should go more often considering I live so close. I just can't resist bigger and better things sometimes though!

We've been here twice now and both times we've had really good meals but one time we had great service and the second time just blah service. We are early diners because of our little 3 year old but the food has been really really good. It is your typical "made for USA" Irish pub and I believe their first location is in Downers Grove. That really doesn't matter to me as they have good beer selections and a pretty good sized menu. We've tried everything from the burgers to the club sandwich as well as the fish and chips and they've all been of high quality and very tasty. We haven't tried the boxty yet though. (have at other places so it'll be good to compare the next time we go) Also, the meals for kids are decent as well. Parking can be a bit tough given the area and I've seen that they've been featured on several of the Groupon and groupon-type sites. I would love to come back without our wee one to see some live music or for a pub trivia night.

This place is Irish Disneyland. Big cliche Irish facades garnish this giant warehouse dedicated to drinking. The inside is just as awesome and Disney-like as the outside. The first room houses a large stage, bar and plenty of seating. Past that room is a series of smaller rooms each with its own theme. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There is a decent selection of beer on tap and a good selection of liquor with a healthy nod toward the Irish fare. I am looking forward to drinking here again with some friends and watching the Sharks beat the Blackhawks on the TV in one of the smaller rooms.

I have to say that I do enjoy Ballydoyle, even though it does have its downfalls. They do have live music on weekends, and even though it's not ALWAYS my taste, I have to give them credit for always having a diverse group of bands playing. This place is huge, and you can definitely get lost in here while looking for the restrooms, or while trying to find your way back to your table from the restrooms. I consider this to be a good thing, since all the patrons aren't shoved in the same room like sardines. The back patio overlooking the river is wonderful in the summer. I have probably been here on every night of the week, and the crowd is always a nice mix of all ages. I have never felt too old or too young being here. The food here is good for the most part, however, the entrees that I have ordered have been hit or miss. The same dish can be spectacular one night, and then leaves something to be desired the next. Being an Irish restaurant/bar, the food is very heavy and filling, and the servings are large. As I am not a huge fan of heavy foods, my favorites here are off the appetizer/late night menu, since I'm normally here to drink first and foremost. The Spinach Artichoke Dip is the best that I have had in a long time, the Irish Chips with the blue cheese dip are phenomenal, and the Corned Beef Bites tend to melt in my mouth. One complaint I do have is about the service. I have never had above average service here. It's normally average, but more times than I care to remember, it's been sub-par. If I have to get up and go to the bar to get another Guinness (during dinner time) because our server has not made it back to check on us in a while, that's not a good sign. Of course, I will be returning to Ballydoyle for the atmosphere, food, and beer.

I will start it off like I usually do... Positives and Negatives. Positive: The sweet potato chips were awesome... Little sweet little salty You go the ambiance of being in an old European church (that could be bad if you're drinking) Service was A+ Negative: Can't really think of any except that the crowd was a bit older that I am. Ballydoyle's is good spot to check out if you live in the burbs. Its hard trying to find things that are special out of the city. Maybe other places offer cheaper drinks, but if you bring 2-3 people with you and have a drink you will have a good time. I still have to this day the fond memory of the pictures we took acting like we were in church. (THE SEATS WERE PEWS... INTRIGUING IS IT NOT?) Check it out

The really nice thing about Ballydoyle's is that they bring in enough business to always have something fun going on (and don't usually charge a cover for it) comedians, trivia, and cover bands make for a fun atmosphere. On weekends it can get loud and can get packed (like most good bars). I have not gotten too much food here, but my girlfriend really likes the fried pickles. They have a wide selection of beers on draft, but don't run too many specials. Parking here can sometimes be annoying compared to other bars in the area because they don't have their own lot, so on weekends don't be surprised if you have to park kitty-corner from them in the public parking lot. Also if you close the bar out and want to keep the party going, or you just are in the mood to give away your money, the casino is with-in walking distance :)

Have been here multiple times for a multitude of meetings, and gatherings iof friends, food is average, but the service was by far is below average! I felt rushed every time I came and asked about the drinks and food, not to mention asking us what we wanted BEFORE we even had menus. The Bar tender was very inexperienced and it wasn't even busy! Honestly the bartender was more worried about her side work then her consumers, and she didnt even tell us her name. Very poor on her part! Additionally there was a guy on stage performing what i thought was triva night, he sounded way to drunk to be performing, mumbeling his words and etc. Overall I wouldn't recommend this place unless you are at the casino and don't want to travel far to another bar haha... Seriously!

So ended up here for a quick bite and drink before a 2nd city show at the nearby Paramount theatre and this was a great way to start the evening. This is a cool Irish pub with good choice of Irish and European brews on tap, Irish whiskeys and traditional Irish food. The place was packed so service was a bit on the slow side but who cares when you are in good company, sipping a nice pint of Guinness and munching on more than decent bar food. Will definitely be back when in the area. The boxties were excellent and the bread pudding was worth every bite.

Plato proposed an idea that in the metaphysical world, there would be a chair that is the most perfect chair-esque chair out there. No chair that exists on Earth could be more chair-y than this Metaphysical Chair, though we would strive to achieve that. This bar is the most perfect Metaphysical college-bar out there. When, in my mind, I picture a college bar, every detail in this bar is beamed from the metaphysical realm to the Irish Pub before my face. Amazing drink deals on Jameson and beer. College aged crowd. The band is a Talking Heads cover band (AMAZING). The chandeliers that hang and both classy and gaudy. The drunken fellow in front of the stage is out of a movie. The sour realization hits me that I have never been the biggest fan of bars like these but the Jameson, good company and Talking Heads cover band make it a great night. So thank you, Metaphysical most-perfect-college-bar-esque-bar out there.

This place has an excellent beer selection, but can't help but feel violated after having two drafts and getting charged $16. I understand that some brews are expensive, but a heads-up would be nice. I've had the wings, which were ok, but nothing to get excited about.

Service took forever. The steak boxty was ok. Interesting idea but not a lot of meat and too many mushrooms. The salmon was good, but salty.

Great bar with awesome food. I used to come here often for open mic night but I got a little too crowded despite the massive size of this place. The prices are decent and they have a $.25 wing night. The atmosphere is very mixed. You will find every type of person in here, even cops. I'm not gonna lie, it's a little awk running into an officer who knows you from back in your hooligan days, while drunk. That being said, this is a great place to come and hang and have a few drinks with your friends.

This place is the jewel of downtown Aurora! It takes up almost a whole block and revitalizes the look of the area. Downtown Aurora really should be full of places like this but somehow it's never happened. Most of the food is very good, including the corned beef balls and Irish chips. They have 10 cent wings on Mondays that are also very good. I hope this place sticks around. Seems like most of the good places always move out.

I go back and forth about Ballydoyle ALL the time. First of all, I can't say I love the food. It's fine, but it's pricey. Plenty of cheaper places I'd prefer to eat, the food at which would not make me feel like I had lard running through my veins and a brick in my stomach. We've also had iffy service at times, and I think that the $10 cover charge for some bands is slightly ridic. That being said, the place can be fun. A lot of the staff is really pleasant, and the live music and trivia are usually fun. Sometimes it gets super loud, but if you you hate your eardrums like I do, it's totally cool. The patio outside is really enjoyable, too. All in all, I like it better than I don't, and everyone I know goes there, plus I like drinking, so I'll obviously be back.

Lots of European beer on tap. Friendly, knowledgeable bartender. Happy to let you "try before you buy", and why not?? I don't enjoy the experience when a barkeeper is snooty when you ask to sample a beer you've never had. Ballydoyle's bartender has no problem with sampling. The Späten Oktoberfest was brown, full-bodied and delicious (not to mention: on sale! the night we were there.). The decor was cool like an Irish bar should be. Even though the expansive nature of the space didn't seem to bring the Dublin vibe to me, it is worth overlooking that to have such an excellent choice in beers and friendly service. I know they have live music from reports of experienced visitors. I know they have food, as well, but I didn't try that. I asked my brother about the pub-grub, he said, "it's pretty good.". But, the way his voice raised a couple octaves when he said "pretty good", leads me to believe he was just trying to be positive and upbeat about what was really just average fare. Ya know: Pretty Good "How's the food?" " Food...." What would you think?

Great place to go during the week when you have nothing to do in Aurora. Which by the way is pretty often. I went there when there was a live band playing some soft alternative/rock music. It is open seating so depending on the night (.40 wing night) it could be difficult to find a seat, don't expect anyone help you either. The waiting staff was not very timely or helpful. They seemed rushed and aloof. This could either be from poor hiring requirements or short staffing the joint. In any case come prepare to be frustrated by them, so get drunk fast. The only reason to tolerate the service would be the food. The wings are awesome and super fresh. I had meatloaf, which was probably the best I have had outside of homemade. I plan on going here to experience the trivia night and will be bring my patience. Hope to experience the outside deck this summer too.

would have given it a better rating but the server guy (not lady)was more attentive to his, I don't even know what, but it wasn't us. had the fish and chips. meh. more greaase than anything. fish was OK but scooping up tha extra grease with each bite made me a little afraid of having a chest grabber right there in the dining room. my boy got the brat special. it had blue cheese on it so I stayed away. his was more spice and not enough flavor. he wouldn't repeat. i'll be back to sample some of th other offerings and hopefully sit in a section with a better server and view! i'm struggling with 2 or 3 stars. guess I'll be giving and rate a 3.

Downtown Aurora needs this to be a good restaurant! Loved the fish and chips, until they changed the fries. Now they taste really fake ... Service has not been great when we ate there the last couple of times. Had a really bad experience with their staff at the Blues on the Fox Festival. Makes me really not want to go back ... they were being rude to everyone in line, not just us. Seemed like the offender may have been management. yeesh!

Who doesn't love Irish/American Classics like corned beef, cabbage, and BUFFALO WINGS? I'm not sure who doesn't, but I know who does, ME, ME, ME! Normally when I dine at Ballydoyle's it's during a short lunch break, but recently I had the opportunity to have dinner; I stayed for 3 hours. I love this place and now Dinner is my new favorite time to dine, the atmosphere was so laid back, unpretentious and our waitress was great! Oh and not to mention, I went on a Monday Night! What does MONDAY NIGHT MEAN? .25 Cent wings in 6 different flavors, they are HUGE, non-breaded, and fried to perfection! Dinner for 3 of us, including martini's, and dessert was 29 dollars, can you believe it? If you are looking for a fun family dinner out, a quick bite with friends, or some great drinks, check out Ballydoyle's. I would have given them 5 stars but recently I found out that they are a chain.

Nice place in downtown Aurora. Older crowd so not the place to go if you want to meet girls. Food is typical bar food but expensive. Beer selection is great but again it comes at a price. Atmosphere is good and laid back but like I said its more of an older crowd. Service was fine but could be better based on prices. I would go back if in area since not many other options.

I love Irish pubs, and I have been to this outpost of Ballydoyles several times. I love the cozy feeling you get when you are surrounded by wood grain, stone fire places and Irish whiskey. I haven't eaten here, but the menu looks good so I would try it. The beers are reasonably priced, and the drinks are good. The crowd tends to be a little older than what I like to be around which is why I normally hang out in Naperville. The bands that I have seen here have all been talented but not my type of music. So if you like "new and old country" or "songs from the 40's 50"s and 60"s" then this might be your place. Or I just go on all the wrong nights (the days I've been are completely random, like this upcoming Saturday for someone's birthday) If you are in the area check it out.

I go to Ballydoyle at least twice a week. Needless to say, I am shocked that it would get less than stellar reviews. On Monday nights, there are 25 cent wings, $2 Miller Lite drafts, $2 well drinks and $1 Irish Chips. Thursday nights are the same minus the Irish Chips special. You can find me here every Monday and Thursday. I love it, my friends love it, I can't get enough. The staff is amazing for the most part. I'll admit that a couple of the servers aren't my favorite, but I like to sit at the bar anyway. The bartenders are amazing. Rick and Lirim ROCK! You guys NEED to go!

Very good irish pub located on the river in Aurora. They do have outdoor seating. I had the fish and chips. It was very good. The batter was delicious and nice and crispy. The fish tasted very fresh, not fishy, and came with a lemon wedge, tartar sauce, and fries. The fries tasted very fresh as well, not at all cheap or frozen. After a sprinkle of malt vinegar, I was in heaven. It was a great place to kick back and enjoy the end of the Master's tournament, which we could clearly see from our table. I washed it all down with a glass of Hard Cider. That meal really hit the spot and everyone else liked their food in our party. I think it's a very authentic place. They serve something called a Boxty which is an irish potato pancake wrapped around fillings such as pot roast, beef stew, or chicken pot pie-esque fillings. My future father in law had the pot roast once and said that it was very good. Basically a Boxty is like an Irish crepe. I wanted to try one, but was craving fish and chips for a long time. They also have a big stage where I assume they have live music often. Pretty nice. For parking there is a garage next door. It's $4, but since it's right next to the casino, bring your Hollywood casino players card and you can park for free. My only thing is that I noticed that the gothic chandellier right above our table was ultra dusty, cobwebby, and really needed to be cleaned. Other than that, great place with nice wait staff as well.

Bands are good sometimes, it gets packed with the 20 - 50 something Aurora people. Ugghhhh, tequila shots were of poor quality and they charged $10/each. It's next door to the fox river and you can smell the river throughout the place. Kitchen looked dirty, however the buffalo wings were tasty. Too pricey for not a great time with the same crowd every weekend. Bartenders look like they are from the movie TAKEN. A friend said it was a great place to go when it first opened and then she said Aurora happened to it so she does not go anymore. I have witnessed this firsthand. I really don't want to see band past their prime play "Take Me home Tonight" one more time, Really.

Alright, here is the situation- me and my lady friend were lucky enough to have the rents-in-law watching the shorties, so we decided to go to aurora and have mexican food. The place we had chosen was shut, yo, so we went to ballydoyle's instead. This place was actually fairly dope(ish). I echo the earlier peeps who said the service was good. The night we went, it was crowded but our waitress, who was responsible for most tables, was attentive and stupid- but stupid in the good way. The drink menu and beer selection is very....good. Or, fresh, I mean. They have many great beers on tap- like boddingtons (which I suppose should be casked, but hell, we are in aurora), and their beer-mixes offer more than just the normal black-and-tan. The menu is decent, offering pub fare and some irish specials. I had the fish and chips, and they were non-offensive. My lover loved her burger. An irish bar in aurora is always going to be thousands of miles removed from the source, but this place still had a good vibe and offered a nice time. Testify. Dig it.

Friends took us here on our Christmas trip to Aurora. A huge place with a huge menu. Food was good; service also good. I'm a designer, so I was puzzled at the cavernous space They are missing an opportunity to attract a substantial amount of appreciative diners if they'd install booths to offer a little intimacy.

This is not your typical Irish bar! It's a dark and gothic looking Irish pub with creepy old time pictures on the wall and dusty chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. They have a large selection of beers to offer from their micro brewery, as well as mixed drinks. They offer live music, great food, and several different party rooms. The service isn't the greatest cause its also so crowded on the weekends. The waitress' are a little freaky with tattoos and piercings, but I thought it sort of went with the vibe. Not just any old Irish pub with large wooden tables, over sized beer mugs, I mean they have that too, but this place offers more! I get a different vibe here every time I come. It's great for large groups, just make sure you make reservations or you wont have anywhere to sit especially on Saturday nights. Definatelyy worth checking out, one of my favorite bars to go to when I'm in the area. The drinks are a little more expensive but not too bad. The food, in my opion, is a little over priced.

We arrived about 6PM on the second Saturday evening they were open. Relatively quiet with no problems getting a seat anywhere in the place. We decided the bar was a good place to start. Service was very good as was the several different items of food we sampled. The crowd started to build and by 7:30 seats were all taken. 8;30 saw standing room only and people lined up 2/3 deep around the bar.A little after 9PM a 60's band started playing and it got considerably less crowed in a matter of minutes. Not because they were bad, it was because they were too LOUD. The same problem others have claimed about the Ballydoyle in Downers Grove. Although the Aurora location is much larger, it also allows more equipment (amps, speakers) on the stage. We, like many others, go out to have a few drinks and conversation with others. Having to yell to the person next to you does not lead to an enjoyable evening. Had the music been at a much lower volume we would have stayed several more hours undoubtedly doubling our tab for the evening. Many others were noticeably not pleased with the loudness and also left early. I really wish bar owners would consider the customers and make the performers turn it down. . Ballydoyle is a neat place in a much needed area. The next time we go back if the music is still too loud we will leave again and continue the evening at a quieter location. **UPDATE** It's been a couple weeks since our first visit so we tried again the other night. Arriving at 5PM on a Tuesday we were surprised to be greeted at the door by a rude employee with a $10.00 PER PERSON cover charge just to get in! Apparently this is standard procedure here when there is a band playing. The first time we had arrived before the band did so I didn't notice. Now we have to re-think how to rate this place. I am not a big fan of cover charges, especially in a brand new pub that also is a restaurant. Our plans were to eat dinner and have a few drinks with friends but the additional $20.00 charge per couple we just said no and moved on. A normal dinner and a few drinks for us runs up a tab of approximately $75.00 or more. Add the $20 cover and we can eat just about anywhere for $100.00, and much better food than Ballydoyle! In Chicago on a Saturday night I would expect a cover charge but not in Aurora on a Tuesday afternoon. So for that very reason they are now down to 3 stars. ***UPDATE #2**** Ok, tried it again and the cover charge was gone. Back to 4 stars for a pretty popular place. Gets kinda LOUD later but until then it's enjoyable.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Aurora. The food is mostly traditional Irish fare, and everything I've had thus far I've liked; including the beef stroganoff, buffalo chicken sandwich, buffalo chicken salad, cheesy tater tots, and corned beef bites. Everyone I've gone with has enjoyed it as well. The restaurant itself is large and authentic, and provides a great atmosphere. They also host many excellent events and theme nights. All in all a great bar & restaurant on the Fox River.

I went to Ballydoyles first on a friday night for our Bunco Christmas dinner . Our whole group loved it...apparently a lot of people did too...the place was packed! They have bands that play on the weekends. However, the restaurant is so large and spacious that even with so many people it was great! The dining is really casual..lots of booths, pub tables, etc. Terrific for adults and families! My husband and two kids loved it too!! Lots of parking and great location too. Highly recommend this place!!
