Calorie intake is the main concern for people with high cholesterol while dining at a fast-food restaurant like Whataburger. Well, you can always try the Lighter & Smaller options from the menu to cut down your fat intake. Opting for grilled sandwich or burgers are preferred compared to double meat or triple meat cheesy burgers which contain high cholesterol.

Foods to Avoid at Whataburger for High Cholesterol

Cut down on your meat intake to control your high cholesterol. You must skip Double Meat Whataburger and Triple Meat Whataburger at all costs. You should also avoid Avocado Bacon Burger and Monterey Melt as both these burgers contain a high amount of fat. Whatacatch Dinner may sound tempting but the famous fish sandwich is also full of calories and unhealthy fat. Lastly, avoid French Fries and Onion Rings at Whataburger if you are already ordering a burger or any other heavy meal.

We visited on a Saturday morning and actually only waited about ten minutes to be seated. The restaurant was full, bustling with servers and other staff carrying trays of food and cleaning tables. It was clear the knew how to keep things moving as evidenced by the short wait time. The menu, not unlike other breakfast-centric restaurants, was huge. Our server quickly appeared to take our drink orders, he was relaxed and cheerful. Far too often in a hectic restaurant the servers seem overwhelmed, distracted and annoyed...he was at ease, which was refreshing. My husband ordered the biscuits and gravy with a side of pancakes, I ordered the seafood omelette and my 3 year old, the french toast . The food arrived even faster than we had expected and the portions were enormous. The food barely fit on our table. There were individual plates everywhere, which always seems to happen when we go out for breakfast. We condensed the food and the waiter gladly took away the extra plates. My husband loved the biscuits and gravy....he also loved the pancakes and hash browns that came with them. My son devoured his massive slice of french toast, which we didn't think he could...along with his bacon. The flavor of my omelette was pretty good, though I had hoped to have real crab as opposed to imitation. I regretted not ordering the Hollandaise sauce as it was a tad dry...but not enough to ruin it for me. The hash browns were fine, though I will definitely order them with cheese next time. My meal also included a short stack of pancakes, which were pretty good. The texture seemed to be a little too gummy, less light and fluffy as I typically like them. The only negative, and this was truly a small thing, was when our server forgot to bring syrup and forgot my short stack completely He apologized and brought them right away. It must be the nature of a crowded, busy breakfast restaurant as forgetting the syrup or at least one item seems to happen to us over and over again when we go out for breakfast. The prices were pretty average, but the food was certainly worthy of the pricing. We will absolutely be back as there are so many things on the menu we look forward to trying. Ghirardelli Chocolate Chip Pancakes anyone???!!!!

They have to be one of the best breakfast restaurants in the area if not the best. I have slowly worked through there menu, each time find a new gem. I personally love the triple berry French toast, their pumpkin pancakes, and their skillets. Everything you order comes out with that little finesse that show you their take pride in every dish. Lastly, I highly suggest the hot chocolate, it is hard to describe, but if you like chocolate you will not be disappoited.

I generally get the same thing, eggs and corned beef hash and it's always cooked to perfection. I have no had an issue with anything we have ordered here. I would agree with other posters that you get a lot of food so go in hungry!

  • Candice H.

My sister loves this place but I don't get it. Its just okay for too much money. I've been here two or three times and I can't even remember what I got. Nothing to write home about. I have been to so many better breakfast joints and paid a lot less! I think that it lacks competition in the area and that is why people love it. I don't know, that's the best explanation that I could come up with. The service was just so so as well. Find somewhere else to go unless you're really hungry;)

Despite being a busy Labor Day holiday, we walked in & sat right down (party of 2 pays off!). The Denver omelet that I had really hit the spot & there was really a TON of food (both my husband and I took home doggie bags). I've seen a few people complain about the prices, but I really don't think that $9 for a huge skillet and 3 pancakes is unreasonable. We will definitely be back!

Wow- It seems like I must have gone to a completely different restaurant than those who gave reviews here. First off, the food is just okay. Honestly, I have never been blown away by short-order cook breakfast food anyways, so this food is a shade better than a breakfast at Denny's. Next, the prices are pricier than that of other breakfast joints. But the added cost does not result in better/great food. Eggs are eggs, hash browns are hash browns, etc. I must admit the pancakes portions are huge (1 star). Service is what sucked. I had to wait 10 minutes for waters; wait 30 minutes for our food (surprising for a breakfast place); wait three cycles by the server for refills; then an additional 4 passes until we could get our check. There's MUCH better breakfast joints than Burnt Toast, with the same/better food quality, plus better service and cheaper prices. Needless to say, I will not be returning to Burnt Toast.

If you LOVE BACON or love unique breakfast dishes this place is for you, and great super strong coffee. One of the best breakfast shops in the area.

  • Joan K.

Delicious. Stuffed pumpkin pancakes were the bomb. Banana split pancakes were good, but not as good as the pumpkin were. service was outstanding and friendly. Only drawback was the coffee...strongest I have had...but the food/service knocked it out of the park. Can't wait to try something else like the French toast, that looked wonderful.

Having had breakfast in dozens of places all over the country...Reese's/Burnt Toast is near the top. I get the same breakfast no matter where I go - two eggs, hash browns, toast, bacon, and coffee - and it is nearly always priced the same, ~9. However, what is different about Reese's is that they use much higher quality products. The bacon is thick and amazing as well as the toast and eggs. They have a unique menu and it allows for flexibility at a reasonable price when you want a little bit of everything. I have have few improvements for Reece's except for the fact that I seemed to enjoy it more before it became Burnt Toast...I mean sure the cows everywhere were kind of cheesy, but it gave it character that Burnt Toast does not have. The owner was also much more visible and customer service took a drop since the opening of the other restaurant. In addition, just be aware any time you come in after 1:30 be prepared to have all of the wait staff hustling around trying to restock tables and clean up everything for closing. It def. ruins the relaxing atmosphere, but because it's the only place is town with great breakfast I usually get over the disruption.

Overall, a below average breakfast place. I started going here because it was close to places I stop on my usual Sunday shopping runs. Service is ok (sometimes great, but on the whole, just ok). The place is never quite clean (this is both a staff issue, and the fact that they have old carpet throughout the place). Food is iffy... presentation just sucks. Mediocre, poorly cooked, over priced... just some words I can use to describe the place. Pancakes are light and fluffy, but by the time you get 3/4 through your place of them, you just want them to go away. They start to seem very heavy and icky. I have met the owner, Constantine, and he seems over impressed with his place. Yes, he may claim to use organic lettuce and ghiradellhi chocolate chips, but even the so called best ingredients do not fix crappy food or crappie recipes. I seriously believe (just from taste) that the crepes here are store bought and microwaved!! Definitely NOT fresh. If you watch the British version of Kitchen Nightmares, this place is exactly like the Priory...

Great breakfat place with massive portions! The service is exceptional and they have a very tasty seasonal menu! I don't know that it is a very creative menu, but it has all the basics you would expect for breakfast/brunch.

If you haven't been to Burnt Toast you haven't had breakfast. Every dish has the best breakfast has to offer. The pancakes are from another planet, I can't believe that such a delicious pancake exists. Just when you though you found THE dish you put an eyeball on the french toast or omelets and you know your coming back.

Went in this morning for breakfast. Huge line but we sat at the bar immediately. Our waitress bulka was fantastic. They were extremely busy and I even heard them mention they were missing staff and bulka was running around pleasing all of her customers. Not once did we feel she wasn't aware of everyone's needs. Very good job!

My family and I cant say enough good things about Burnt Toast! We love this restaurant! The portions are way too generous, the food is fresh and the service is excellent! We have had our fair share of non-attentive servers, but we just make sure not to sit in their section when we are there. The 3 meat omlette is amazing- but beware, it doesnt come with cheese automatically ( either do their skillets) so make sure you ask for it when ordering. The cinnamon and sugar blend they sprinkle on their french toast is to die for and the pancakes are the best in town! Highly recommend going before 9am because this place gets packed- but its well worth the wait :)

Tried the Italian sausage omlette. Was very good. Service was very attentive . Gets very crowded on weekends. They do offer alot of food.

Wonderful breakfast selection ...Too much food ! Never have gotten a bad meal. Staff attentive , food comes out fast....Suggest if you get the three pancakes with meal. Tell waitperson to bring out cakes after the initial main plate that way be hot, and if full ,take them too go.

  • Johnny G.

Meh. overrated imo. and overpriced. I ordered the ghiradelli chocolate chip pancakes with a side of bacon and hashbrowns. The pancakes were decent. Not enough flavor or richness to it. The bacon and hashbrowns were average as well. I would suggest to go to a different pancake house such as georgia's or maybe even colonial cafe.

A nice little breakfast nook. This location has been open a number of years now and recently took the name of Burnt Toast. Ownership is the same I think. I had the meat lovers skillet which consists of hash brown potatoes, eggs, sausage, ham and bacon. It was delicious and the meats were all diced up perfectly. It comes with a choice of toast or pancakes. I opted for toast. The wife had an egg and a pancake. The pancake was huge and delicious. I had some strawberry/orange juice which was very good. We've been here several times and we always enjoy our visits here.

Only things we order more than once: - Fresh Strawberry Orange Juice - Seafood Omelette - Seafood Benedict Things we've tried but won't re-oder: - Hot Chocolate - French Toast (Famous & Grand Marnier) - too bland for the calories - Spinach & Tomato Egg White Omelette - too bland, add salt; but side fruit cup was larger and better than expected - Meat Lovers Skillet Prices aren't very high, but too high for us to experiment further with anything we haven't already found to be their "special niche", too many other things have been only so-so. Additionally, booth atmosphere is better at the Randall/90 location in Elgin that at the Randall/Meijer location in Algonquin. Uncovered high-efficiency lightbulbs over booths are too bright, and also booths are too small in Algonquin location.

Really good - especially when Lou F is your host. I've known Lou since I moved up to this area in 1992. Having lost my mom & sister and moved to a new area where I knew no one, Lou not only made me feel welcome but was a great restaurateur as he took care of everyone, made sure that all the wait staff was on their toes and my coffee cup was full. I would recommend this location for breakfast or lunch any day of the week. If it looks full - don't worry - Lou will get you in! Stay tune for their new location next to Meijers-Algonquin in the former Ruby Tuesdays!

great for breakfast items and omelets. also have some cool lunch items. ordered the sausage and biscuits which was a huge portion and pretty good. needed a bit of seasoning. the biscuit as ok. but having travelled in the south im fussy about biscuits. service was good. only open til 230 so no dinner service. tried going on a Sunday morning but it was a hour or more wait. sorry, i dotn wait that long for food. no matter how good it is. recommended for brunch. i would avoid sunday mornings.

    (4)
  • Stephanie B.

I tried Burnt Toast for the first time this last Sunday a little bit before 1PM. The place was totally packed, but myself and my boyfriend were able to get a table in just 15 minutes. Get the Gran Marnier French Toast and the freshly squeezed Orange-Strawberry Juice. You won't be disappointed!

  • Franklin D.

Great breakfasts here. Friendly staff, and the owner likes to stop by all the tables and see how things are going, which is a nice touch. Been several times. The place is decorated with little farm animals everywhere. I like the gyros omlette, corned beef hash, and the greek sausage breakfast. Generous portions. Once we went here and it was about 0 degrees F outside and so many people were going through the door that you could see your breath inside the dinig room. So....beware.

  • Bennie R.

I ordered the country fried steak breakfast which is nothing spectacular. The portions are ok for the price. However, the coffee was too strong for my liking, no amount of cream and sugar could make it taste right. I've had better tasting coffee at Ihop. The breakfasts are huge and they recommend pancakes on top of what you order. Restaurant was clean and the staff very attentive. If you don't like Giant Breakfasts, this is not for you.

Yum. Good breakfast locale. Had the Grand Mariner French Toast and a side of hash browns. You can't beat a good menu with unique and good choices. The good reviews didn't let me down!

I was looking for a decent breakfast place among all the local spots (Burnt Toast, Georgia's, Village Inn, Papa G's, etc.) After looking at all the Yelp reviews, my wife and I decided on Burnt Toast. We were pleasantly surprised. We showed up at 10am on a Saturday and only waited 10-15 minutes. Service was attentive but not over the top. I ordered an omelet and my wife the breakfast tacos. The bill came to $22. The coffee is rather over priced and paying extra for cheese in an omelet was annoying. They were packed but we didn't feel pressure from the server to leave...which we really appreciated. It's a solid breakfast joint with above average food. Slightly on the pricey side but the portions are good enough to cover the cost. Personally, I wouldn't take really young kids (2-4) here. The close quarters aren't conducive for small kids. We'll go back the next time we don't have our children and want a nice breakfast.

  • Tina B.

My husband and I go here for Sunday breakfast at least twice a month. The menu has lots of great choices, the food is tasty, the service is attentive, no complaints. My only advice is to be there before 9am or you will have to wait for a table.

  • Judith K.

One of our favorite breakfast spots! They have a wonderful menu selection, yes - the prices are a little higher, but you get what you pay for! Great portions, never had problems with slow service or waiters (they will keep your drinks filled). Tried many different plates, never had anything we didn't like. I love their coffee bar and selections. If you order a special latte or what not, it's definitely worth it! Be careful what time you come. There can be a line (if your in a rush). We are a regular and it's nice to spoil yourself once in a while ;)

  • John H.

As a single guy, I love that they have a bar. (Not an alcoholic type bar [although they do serve mimosas], a bar around the drink prep area) I almost never hafta wait for seating for 1, even when it was Easter and mother's day, I had a seat within 2 minutes of walking in. Food is great, and you get a LOT of it. So popular, you may need to park on the Meijer's side. Sitting at the bar also nets you the entrainment of watching the staff interact, which, if you're by yourself beats the heck out of being bored by yourself.

  • Mel V.

Enjoyed this place when it was Reese's on Randall rd. the food & service made us come back many times during each week. You did get the total diner feel that is Dearly missed in their New restaurants in both locations. To sum it up, we have went from many times a week at Reeses to less then 3 visits total to both Brunch cafes. There are better places to go. They raised their prices & lost their quality of service & food.

Well hello Chicken and Waffles, nice to meet you! Please tell me about yourself. Oh you are a rosemary fried chicken breast, and there is bacon in the waffle batter? Oh and you invited some more thick cut bacon to hang out on the plate, well that was nice of you. If you don't mind, I'm going to cover you in maple syrup now and get myself a nice fork full of all of this and make some strange pleasure noises as I clear my plate. Yes, you will have to wait on the weekends, because this place is packed. Yes, it is worth the wait, and it's nice to get a real cup of coffee at a breakfast place, not some brown water. Been here many times and will be back many times.

Burnt toast is pretty good and very consistent. We enjoy their breakfasts and lunches almost every time we go. The salad I had for lunch today was very fresh. It can get pricey if you aren't careful. Food and service 4/5.

Can't afford to visit here too often as its pricy and I usually go for breakfast but it does have great food and very friendly service! You have to try the hot chocolate, holy delicious calories! Haha!

Very good! I've only ever had their breakfast, but never disappointed. Their biscuits and gravy are the best I've had. They also serve some really yummy chocolate milk.

I'll tell you, speaking on a "gluten-free" note, these guys really have their stuff going on! This is my wife and I's favorite breakfast spot! No matter how busy it is, there is still service with a smile--every time! We both truly love their gluten-free waffles and pancakes--amazing! Happy Eating! --Chef JB

Best breakfast place in Algonquin, as evidenced by the crowds of people who wait for a table. I would give this place 5 stars if they labeled which items on their menu were gluten free. With breakfast, it's fairly easy (order eggs, hash browns are probably safe), but I can't recommend this as a "GF establishment" without dedicated GF items. Though they do offer GF pancakes as a side. Holla! Food is hot and quick. Waitstaff has always been great. I recommend Burnt Toast if you are not in a rush!

Favorite place to get breakfast. Never had a bad meal here. Country fried steak is great and would recommend it!!

  • Kristina P.

Definitely worth the wait. Love the stuffed pumpkin cupcakes. Always fast service and the staff really cater to my four year old. Large portion sizing! I always end up with breakfast for the next day, I'm okay with that! Descent pricing for the amount and quality of food. I return often, and have never had a bad experience.

Three words. Strawberry Orange Juice. Their steak and eggs are amazing! Be sure to request onions and cheese on your hash browns. And the best pancakes IN THE WORLD!!! My son loves them.

    (5)
  • Lisa K.

They have the friendliest wait staff there. Great food. Always consistent. The best french toast in the business. Will continue to go back. Love that place. I think they could add on and be twice the size and still pack them in. The owners know how to run a great business.

  • Michael H.

I've been to this location once so far. I like the idea of having breakfast later than the usual breakfast hours. My bro, his friend and I went one day. I forgot what I ordered. I think I ordered a skillet. Anyway, staff was nice. Our waitress was sweet. Food was served rather quickly. Food was delicious!!!!!! Actually, the first time I went here was when I thought the family and I were gonna meet here for Mother's Day, but it was at another location since one of my brothers had bad communication. Either way, both locations were so packed for the holiday. I'd definitely go back.

This place is amazing. My wife and I have been here a few times and it's always great food and great service. Sometimes there is a wait to be seated but it is worth it.

  • Jennifer H.

I had the toasted coconut french toast, OMG WHAT WAS I THINKING!!! It tasted like barf! The French Toast wasn't bad once you scraped all the nastiest off. My daughter had the chocolate chip pancakes, way to much chocolate sauce all over it. My son had the blt, can't go to wrong with that. Coffee was very strong and I like strong coffee. Waitress was good and on top of everything.

Clean, Friendly staff and good service. Food was in front of me fast and i had nothing bad to say about it. As a matter of fact, there were 5 of us and none of us had any dissatisfaction. This place is awesome! I will go back for more.

  • Jeremiah R.

I heard this place was "the place" to go to in Algonquin. I was wrong. HUGE wait, which is fine if they have a fast staff that can turn tables. Breakfast is supposed to be quick, not a 2 hour experience. I have no idea why it took 35 minutes in a farm town to get a table. Food was below average and staff spilled coffee on my table. Won't be going back. Best breakfast place I've been to near the area is Brunch cafe in Roselle.

Had breakfast here with a friend yesterday morning. I had the gruyere cheese and asparagus omelette. The omelette was very heavy on the asparagus (and unfortunately, not the good asparagus tips - 99% stems) and very light on the cheese. I had the little cup of grits and they were totally bland. I had to douse them with hot sauce. Coffee was mediocre. Waitress was friendly when she came and took our order, but after our food was delivered (and it wasn't by our waitress), she never checked on us during our meal! I had to flag someone else down just to get a refill on my coffee.

We've been here a few times, and we like the food and the place, but the service is not always the best. The woman who showed us to our table looked miserable, didn't answer our greeting or our thanks; she just dumped the menus on the table and walked away. The server was just ok, not too friendly but efficient enough, and brought us the check right after he brought us the food. What really annoyed us though was that we had just finished our brunch but were still drinking coffee; it was 2 o'clock, and the place closes at 2.30, but the server came back, picked up the check and virtually kicked us out saying we were his last table so he would bring the check to the checkout for us to pay right away. I'm not sure if his shift was over, or wanted to be free that last half hour to clean up or whatever tasks he needs to do, but I think it was rude and awful service. We won't be back any time soon; there are far too many good pancake houses around with great, friendly service and the same food quality, so that's it, Burnt Toast.

Family business offering fantastic food, service, and attentive owners. Love this place and the custom roasted coffee. Corn beef hash and eggs with the best hash brown potatoes is excellent. Corn-beef benedict was also excellent. Special was a 1/2 backed chicken on a waffle - looked incredible! They also offer multi-grain waffles and pancakes for those looking for a healthier choices.

Worst experience ever!!! $2 up charge if you are sharing your food what a dump policy!!! Rude waitress, she rushed me to order my food & very un-respectful manager. I wouldn't recommend anyone to go there.

The restaurant itself is adorable, modern and clean. Servers were professional and timely. I didn't care for the scrambled eggs, but the Chocolate Ghirardelli Crepes were delicious (even at home, since they were too plentiful to finish at the restaurant). Go early in the morning.

Ok, this was out first time here. Very good breakfast, many, many items to choose from and the portions are more than enough. Next time I'm in this area we will be back.

Excellent breakfast/brunch spot with top quality ingredients and service. From traditional fare to more adventurous dishes, everything is fresh and delicious. Don't miss the fresh-squeezed juices on the menu. Can get very busy on the weekends, but still well worth the wait!

Great food, went there for lunch. Felt hustled by the hostess as far as the seating. Great food, nice atmosphere.

First time here... but not last! Chicken & Waffles was the most delicious thing I've had in a long time. The chicken breasts were pounded thin - flavorful, juicy and crispy. The waffles were studded with lean bacon - with even more sliced bacon layered on top :)

This is, hands down, the best breakfast place in Algonquin/Lake in the Hills. Family owned, Burnt Toast has a great selection of classics, plus some unique offerings as well. My standard order is the Gyros Omelette, which comes with tomato, onion, and feta. The combination of the savory gyro, tied with the creamy sharp feta, makes it such a tasty breakfast dish. Plus the portion is huge! Service is always top notch. Servers know their menu and are open with recommendations. This location can be difficult for large parties, so I recommend going to their Elgin location down the road. I will definitely be back soon!

Great great breakfast and brunch restaurant. First of all this was my first time here and I had just ran the muddy buddy so I was hungry for some good breakfast so I went on yelp and found this place. Once I came in, I saw a familiar face and that was a friend of mine that used to go to college with so that was really nice seeing her again. Despite that the restaurant was packed they sat us right away the first thing I noticed was the coffee cups they weren't those little cups you usually see in the breakfast places. These cups were huge and they kept it full. We were ready to order and about 15 minutes later our food arrived. Outstanding service. Now to the good part (the food). I order the baby spinach and gruyere omelet with hash browns and wheat toast. Hash browns.... the best hash browns I've had in my entire life the crispness of it and the flavor it's perfect and not to greasy like other restaurants. Now the omelet, it might look small and not very filling but trust me it fills you up. But the eggs are nicely cooked along with the cheese and spinach . I couldn't be more satisfied with this place. Definitely one of my fave breakfast places. But what is Sure about this place is that they got the best hash browns.

This is pretty much the only good place in 10-15 miles to get breakfast brunch. Every time I come the food is consistently good, and the line is out the door in confirmation. Ghiradelli hot chocolate is awesome. Waffles are awesome. Benedict is awesome. Service and wait times are so so.

I went here last week for breakfast (day after Christmas) with friends after one friend suggested it. I looked up reviews, had a good rating on Yelp, so we headed over! The parking lot was jammed packed so we were a bit worried about the wait but with all the people waiting it was only 10 minutes for the three of us. Service wasn't very friendly or very fast but it was decent enough. We didn't have silverware - had to ask twice to get some, also, but all in all was decent enough. I ordered the Meat Lovers Omelette which had ham, bacon, sausage. It was very tasty but I had to pay extra to get cheese in it...Seems a bit strange to pay extra for cheese in an omelette, but whatever. It was a bit dry but overall the flavors were good. I was able to change out the pancakes that came with my meal for Ghirardelli Chocolate Chip Pancakes. Oh my goodness, they were absolutely delicious pancakes! They also have chocolate batter pancakes but I think I made the right choice in going with the chocolate chips. They were sooo crazy chocolatey! It also came with grits which were meh. Not the best I've had and not the worst I've had....they tasted a bit rubbery to me though. I also got a Ghirardelli Hot Chocolate which was topped with a ton of whipped cream, Christmas sprinkles, a candy cane and chocolate syrup. It was huge, so tasty and so rich! Absolutely delicious but this was a chocolate overload for breakfast! This was a massive amount of food---way too much! I ended up taking most of it home because the hot chocolate was so filling. I think the food is very hit or miss here...what's good is amazing and what's miss is just very mediocre. It's definitely a good breakfast spot with tons of options, so will definitely be back to try some other menu items and will definitely get those chocolate chip pancakes again!

There seem to be a million awesome breakfast places in Algonquin and I am jealous. I came here on a Sunday morning with the boyfriend to enjoy a nice brunch. It was a little hidden since it is set back, but we found it okay. I ordered a Strawberry Orange Mimosa which I highly recommend. It had great flavor. For my meal, I ordered the Spinach and grueyre cheese omelet. I substitute the pumpkin pancakes to go with it which were awesome, but I didn't realize they came with nuts, so I gave the top one to my boyfriend. We also got a side of corn beef has which we scarfed. Everything was awesome here and the service is good. I am sure we will be back once we finish exploring some of the other highly rated Algonquin breakfast joints!

Honestly, all breakfast food tastes the same. Delicious. This place is great to bring your mom or have a quick girls breakfast because it's a little more "dressy". Coffee is good.

The food here is always good and the service is always up to par. Coffee flows freely and you get what you order. The only problem is in the weekend there is a short wait at times but this is a good thing. Grand Marnier French toast is my favorite. Yum yum yum yum!!!!

New to the area and tried this place for brunch today. Delicious French toast, very quick and efficient service (waited less time than they told us), and a clean and friendly atmosphere. Will definitely be back to try other menu items!

I never miss an opportunity to go to this restaurant while I am in Chicago. I have no idea how good the lunches or dinners are, because I'm always here for breakfast! Portions are beyond generous, service is great, and prices are reasonable. There are lots of dishes from which to choose, but I stick to the myriad pancake variations, Belgian waffles, and most often: Grand Mariner French Toast! I prefer to come with my wife, who's quick to share her leftovers with me. More to savor!

The French Omelette is a must with sun dried tomatoes and goat cheese... A little slice of heaven i would dare say... Matched by the service here

The food is amazing but I'm wondering if there have been staff changes.have come every week for 5 years and loved the regular team. Now they all seem rushed, not to friendly, not rude, just not what we are use to. Being a vegetarian I lived coming here because I could get veggie skillets. Last Sunday when I ordered Spanish skillet no chorizo and lite jalapeño I was told the kitchen doesn't take special requests.. ... Really? I don't think we'll be going back looks like the search is on for a place that allows my food how I want it. Not sure what changes are happening but the friendly atmosphere seems to be fading.

  • Rachel B.

The staff here is very attentive and friendly. The portions are a tad huge, but the food is really good. The reason they don't get 5 stars is because of the noise. The last 3 times we've been in, we get seated at the tiny booth in the corner by the kitchen with a speaker right over the table. I was unable to hold a conversation with my husband because the music and kitchen was so loud. The food is awesome, the ambiance is definitely lacking.

  • Em E.

Friendly staff, very busy, but were seated quickly. As others have mentioned, it's fairly loud. I learned how to read lips quickly. Tried the Grand Marnier French Toast. Huge serving and just..."eh". Sauce/topping went chillly and runny very quickly Got a side of sausage links, which were cold and oddly chewy. My side of the bill (with a water) was $16. Ouch. Say what you will about Colonial Cafe (located just across the street), but the food is hot and it's not over-priced. They get points for the kind waitress and interesting selection of options. Not sure if I'll be back...:/

I honestly do not know why the reviews for this place are so good!!! The breakfast is decent, but nothing special. Whenever I drove by this place it was always super packed, so I assumed the food was must be good. I tried it last summer (I think sometime in June 2012) and was really disappointed! Maybe it was just because I had really high expectations---I thought it would be like a unique, local breakfast place...but I equate this place to Denny's---I guess I would say it is a glorified version of Denny's. The menu isn't anything special, and the food tastes just like you would get at a Denny's. The colonial cafe across the street is better, in my opinion...or make the drive to Barrington to eat at the Egg Harbour!

My wife and I went there on Sunday around 1PM. The place was packed but there was no line. So we were seated within 10 minutes. Staffs were very helpful and friendly. Although they were super busy, they did take time to answer questions and make short friendly conversations. Unfortunately, it was a different story with the front receptionist. She had no energy and forced smiles briefly. We felt like we were bothering her and made us feel unwelcome. Not exactly the magic I was looking for but I guess she was tired. So we pushed on and decided to enjoy our lunch anyway. The restaurant was clean and modern but somewhat loud. When we were seated at a booth, we had to really pay attention to each other to understand. But we weren't there for conversation anyway. I ordered a Denver Skillet and she had a specialty French Toast that was on separate menu. My Denver Skillet was pretty decent but her french toast was just way too sweet. Even wtih side berries and fruits, it was really hard to digest. Perhaps that french toast was meant for a kid or a teenager. Thankfully, coffee helped kill some of that sweetness. By the way, coffee tasted really good. Portions were generous and I eneded up taking some pancakes that came as side with my Denver Skillet home. Overall, I enjoyed my meal and the experience, I will come back again and try some other dishes on the menu.

Service was fast and friendly....we had to park at the Meijer store next door because the parking lot was packed as was the restaurant. We only had to wait about 3-5 min to get seated. The food is very good and portions are large. One piece of French toast is huge!! We were in and out(table of 4) in under an hour. Will be going back frequently, excited to try so of the different menu choices!

This used to be the best place for breakfast in the Algonquin area. This restaurant has a great variety of breakfast items though I tend to always order the French Toast because I know it's perfect. The food fills you up but doesn't give you that bloated feeling that some breakfast joints give you. Their hours are a bit strange as they close at 2:30 in the afternoon. I guess breakfast for dinner isn't an option for them. Unfortunately their service left a horrible impression on my last visit and haven't returned since. The waitress messed up our order, failed to apologize and the manager failed to comp ANYTHING given the debacle.

I had an exceptional breakfast here. The food was great, we were seated very quickly on a packed Saturday morning. Our waitress was unintentive to us but a manager was quick pick up the slack. The portions are huge and the price is great. If you like breakfast half as much as I do it's a must visit.

Recently visited the newer location in the old Ruby Tuesday building, which appeared to be lightly renovated. In spite of the lacking service (it was a busy Sunday brunch) the food makes this a solid 4-star review. Once our order was taken the food runner was the last person we saw until we were nearly done; no checkup from the waitress to make sure the order was correct or to ask for additional items. Also had no water refills until we were ready for the check. The place was emptying out and them the waitress started come back around, so either she was a little spacey or they were understaffed that morning. Pancakes were as good as were in the old place, and the menu seems to have expanded, with a larger kitchen most likely. I opted for the seafood omelet which can sometimes be a risky maneuver but it was done really well. The side of wheat toast was burnt, but we sort of laughed at the irony. Good to see the quality is still there after taking on a much larger space.

I have been here recently and this place for me is only a breakfast joint. I have not eaten lunch sandwiches etc. It is right across the street from The Colonial Cafe and I feel it does a little bit better at the food especially the bacon. :) I usually get one of the specials or one of the combinations. Predictable meals and never anything that has been off putting. Decent coffee. :). Servers have always been friendly and diligent. I think this place is a touch overpriced and might give it found stars if there were some more interesting menu choices and pricing that was more spot on.

We don't go here as often as we used to, because it's not always easy to wait with a preschooler (and there will definitely be a wait), but it's our absolute favorite place to eat breakfast. I get the eggs benedict every time and my husband is in love with their bacon. It can be a little pricey for breakfast, but we've never had something we didn't like. My only suggestion is that they extend their hours.

I met my aunt and a friend here at 11 a.m. on a Sunday. As expected, the restaurant was quite crowded with a long wait. Fortunately, my aunt had arrived first and sat at the counter, where two additional seats opened up.The counter server was very friendly, and the three of us were able to have good conversation. The purse hooks under the counter were a great way to keep our bags safely out of the way.I had an pomegranate-orange juice, which was a great combination. The all veggie panini, had a great blend of grilled tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, spinach and mozzarella cheese.

This place is as good as it gets when it comes to breakfast. Fantastic food and great service. At first our server seemed a little testy but she lightened up after a few minutes. Probably due to my being a nice guy. :) The food is of great quality and the amount is huge. The slightly higher cost is well worth it. As I was eating it I was in awe as to how the heck to they make these normal items taste so much better than everywhere else. If you like to eat breakfast out this is definitly the place to do it.

My friend called me this am wanting to go to Burnt Toast. No wonder this place is packed, you get alot of food....for a price, but damn if it's worth every penny! The service knocked off a star here, it seems like they are trying to maximize profit by getting as many people in and out as possible, which is understandable but damn. Quality is true, definately comin back since I can walk here from my place when its friggin 50 degrees in January in the NW Burbs of Chi-town?? Really!?!?!

This place is always PACKED. I've had both good service and bad service here. I think it depends on the day. They seem to roll out the special forces for weekends. The food is alright, but there is a lot of it. Seriously, I get this is America and we love huge portions, but come on...I don't need 6 pancakes in addition to the three eggs I just ate.
