Well personally I'm a huge fan of the Sandpiper. Salads rock, the crab and the prime rib are well, prime. And I have heard the mud pie is to die for. And the delicious mints at the end just are a nice touch. Honestly in my opinion it is one of, if not the best places in Pocatello!

The locals will tell you this is the best restaurant in Pocatello. If this is the best, I don't want to run into the worst..... OK, maybe I already did at Kowloon's. But that's another review... I had Chicken Oscar that was awful; a very dry piece of chicken topped with crab meat and artichokes with a side of steamed vegetables. No spice, no taste, and the artichokes were sour. My husband's chile-lime steak was also bland and tasteless. We think the strawberry cheese cake was previously frozen and NOT from New York. I guess what really gets me, besides the food being VERY expensive and bad, is the restaurant itself is dark and dingy - not at all equivalent to the atmosphere you would expect to see along with the high $$$$ prices. Fortunately, I did not pay for this food and would have returned it to the chef if the cards had been turned.

This place wants to be something it isn't. It's not very good, and the ambiance sucks. Go to Perkins it is better.

For Pocatello, this is really the closest to fine dining you will find. That's not saying much. You can tell how much a chef cares about his food by the way it is presented. Sometimes it takes a shake up to get their attention. I'm pretty convinced that the owner of the Sandpiper would not have been pleased with the steak I was served last night. I ordered the Ribeye steak and I felt like it was lacking in the time and attention a Ribeye deserves. It was a tad under an inch thick and although it was cooked to medium, the crust had a burnt flavor. It was a dry rub, so I know the intention was to sear that, but it shouldn't taste burnt. I don't know, but I just felt like the steak was frozen and not fresh. (Could be wrong, it just didn't have that freshness there) The coffee butter topping was excellent. The service was good and it got extremely loud the later it got. Not a complaint, just a fact. Sandpiper has a laid back atmosphere. I think there is a huge regular crowd that goes there to socialize and drink. For the price, the value just wasn't there. For me, this is an occasional stop, not a favorite. With a few small adjustments, this place could really do well. They have no competition. The closest restaurants are Texas Roadhouse, Buffalo Wild Wings, Applebees and Chilis. All cookie cutter places. I love that Sandpiper has the freedom to do really well, I just wish they would!

This is one of our favorite restaurants. We have been eating here for the las twenty five years and have never had a bad meal. The Prime rib is juicy and the sizzlin fillet is to die for!

Solid restaurant. Service was good, ambience nice, food tasty. I had the Prime Rib - nothing beats House of Prime Rib in San Francisco, and while there was a little too much fat on the meat, it was still delicious. Recommend this restaurant.

This is a great restaurant to visit! My husband and I have been there on several occasions and have never been disappointed. I have a couple of favorite dishes that I would recommend: the prime rib dinner and the chicken oscar. Both are very tasty and very filling. Also, we love dining on their patio in the evening; it is very pretty and a nice change of pace from dining indoors. I almost forgot to mention their house salad! It is delicious! I would highly recommend adding it to any dish that you decide to order!

Hawaiian Halibut Crunch was phenomenal! Great place to stop by on business travel for a little more upscale yet still casual dining experience

The Sandpiper is one of the nicest restaurant in Pocatello. The food is always good, the wine is awesome, the atmosphere is very nice and cozy, and the weight staff is courteous and knowledgeable. It's not TOO pricey, but enough to feel like you're eating at a nice restaurant. We always take our out-of-town guests to the Sandpiper and everyone is always very satisfied! The only reason I wouldn't give it 5 stars is that it usually takes quite a while to get your food, and the steak is always overcooked. If you want your steak cooked medium-well, order it medium or else it'll be charred.

We were seated in the bar area which seemed not too different from the rest of the restaurant. Even though we arrived at about 8:45 there were several customers. Server did not see us get seated so off to a slow start.....ordered drink/beer... was very slow to deliver drinks. Tap blew, was the explanation. OK ..My Wife ordered Prime Top Sirloin Steak, I ordered 1/2 rack of Lamb with a wedge salad. We had the artichoke appetizer, nice presentation only negative, artichoke was served barely warm. Dinners delivered, It looked great but no wedge salad. Apologized with an offered free beer. It was good but not really anything like a salad. Dinner entrée was very good. Admittedly my wife is a slow eater but we were enjoying the meal. Desert menu was delivered when she had nearly half her steak left to eat. It's a small thing but not unreasonable to ask not to be pushed along when there are empty tables and the kitchen is open for another 1/2 hour. So all in all the food was good and the wait staff just needs some additional training.

Slooooooow. After a long day in the car out of the Tetons, this was recommended. Took the better part of an hour to get a soggy chicken sandwich and eminently forgettable mac 'n' cheese. Worse? Waitress did not come and explain, we saw her chatting in the bar with coworkers. We saw people get seated and served while we waited. Great disappointment. Would have liked the food, but it was also a let down. Hopefully an anomaly, won't ever go back after such crappy service. Waitress didn't even ask about our hotel discount.

Food was just average. The service was interesting to say the least. They delivered the appetizers with no silverware. Had to eat it wit our hands. Our dinner was server an hour after arrival and still had no silverware. Luckily we were in a talkative mood. The employees kept stepping out the back door to smoke so we had to breathe it for an hour. Amazing they allow that.

A place busy with both locals and tourists, The Sandpiper produces some nicely turned out steaks. The service is adequate but not terribly sophisticated. The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxing, and there's an option for outdoor tables in season. We got a 10% discount by showing our room key for our hotel across the street.

Both of our meals were delicious. I had the scallops he had the dry rub ribeye. The fresh bread with infused Olive oil and garlic was wonderful. We shared a huge piece of mud pie. Yum!

We were here on my last night in town and it came slightly short in terms of rating due to us getting a server who was training another server. We were seated and then told that our server had a trainee in tow. We noticed a different couple who arrived, sat, ordered, and received their order before we even ordered appetizers. WTF? Really? We ordered the escargot, the half/half combo that has a breaded in macadamia nut fillet, with a grilled half-sirloin steak that was brought out sizzling, topped with some cute as hell mushrooms. After dinner we made room for the best mud pie I've ever had. It was epic in scale, cheap, and delicious. We killed it. I stayed at the Super 8 next door, so we just walked right over. Please note that this place is considered the nicest dining establishment in Pocatello. Hopefully timely service will be available next time. I want to get my grub on again for sure!

Traveling through Pocatello. Stopped for the night, and asked our hotel where was good to eat. They recommended the Sandpiper, which was right next door. great suggestion!! Very nice, cozy place, walls lined with old wood, gives it that rustic feel. The waiter brought us some hot bread and a oil, garlic, cheese plate to spread on it. Yum!!! I had the chili lime flat iron steak, and my girlfriend had the short ribs. Both were excellent. Great service, nice wine list. A must go when in town. Plus , very reasonable price.

Food was very mediocre. Service was bad. My wife had chicken with little frozen shrimp on top with vegetables. The combination doesn't work. I had braised ribs, not too bad but they were on top of some very pasty risotto. Service was possibly the worst we have had in a restaurant but I am sure it was just our waitress. We noticed other waiters responding well and appropriately to their tables. Our waitress ignored us for 15 minutes until I stuck my arm in her pathway as she was passing our table without eye contact for the 8th time. The few times we needed to make a request we again had to physically stop her. She was not rude and mostly accommodated our requests once made. Whereas the menu showed potential, we might have made better choices or it was an off night. We're from out of town but I'm not sure we would return.

I like the casual feel to this nicer restaurant; you can go in jeans and fit in just fine. The house salad is fantastic! I prefer the prime rib dinner, but the chicken oscar is great too. Everything I have had has been great; however, I haven't ventured off those 3 items ever.

I can see how this could be great or just so-so ... i think if it's the vibe you are looking for - old school, nautical & seafood. Half our food was fantastic, the other half a little off. Here's the pros/cons: Pros: -Raspberry Chicken Salad - AMAZING - they didn't skimp on the toppings -Friendly, Helper servers -Though older building, very clean -French Fries were delish -Seafood appetizers were great Cons: -"Cheese Pizza" on the kid's menu was funky (generally one thinks white crust, red sauce & cheese for cheese pizza, right?) It has some kind of white sauce, maybe alfredo sauce -Dr. Pepper was canned only -Steaks were over done -Prices seemed a bit high for items - kids pizza was just shy of $7

Service was excellent and prime rib was best I've had in along time. Only restaurant in Pocatello I would brag about.

Once again the Sandpiper didn't disappoint! Selections on the menu were marked gluten free. Our server was perfection and made the perfectly prepared meal more enjoyable. I think this is probably the best restaurant in Pocatello. I recommend eating here highly!

I ordered 12 oz New York Steak. It was very juicy and tender. The steak came with a side order of fresh vegetables, and it costs about 20 bucks. I added a side of clam chowder to the main dish for $3.99. The clam chowder was just ok. They also had a special sweet Mai Thai type drink on sale for 7 bucks. One was enough to get you buzzed because it had the equivalent of 5 shots of liquor in it. Just remember to drink it slowly. We also order clams for 9 bucks, and there was enough to share for 5 people. The Brie cheese and toasted bread was also delicious. Sandpiper is conveniently located next to the Clarion Hotel just in case you need it if you decide to party. The atmosphere is good for large groups of friends and family. They have good waiters, and we did not have to wait long for the food. The only drawback is that the main dishes are a little expensive, but you can always substitute dinner with a few appetizers to save money. :) Thanks!

I think I'm drooling a little bit, just from thinking about the dish I had at the Sandpiper. My coworker and I were staying at the (really weird) Best Western across the street, and popped in for dinner one night. The restaurant has a nice vibe, although the entire place feels slightly outdated. We started with some delicious bread and olive oil (with TONS of cheese in it - yum!) while we waited on our entrees. My friend ordered the chicken piccata, and I had the stuffed salmon (stuffed with crab and shrimp, in a brie dill sauce). The entire thing was so amazing. Although my friend could only eat half her dish, I managed to devour mine entirely. I will definitely go back if I'm in town again.

I enjoy well prepared fish and seafood. From some of the positive reviews, I had hoped I would find it here. Unfortunately, I was not impressed. The fish was undercooked and tasteless, just this side of slimey. Presentation was very poor...just a small pale slab of fish on a plate. Yum. Good service might have helped, but we didn't get much of that either. Maybe I caught them on an off night, but it will be some time before I'll give them another try.

Don't be fooled. This is not the best restaurant in Pocatello. Once again, we have a place that has it's menu priced like it's fine dining but in the end it's just staffed with a bunch of college kids doing Lewd things (I've personally known a lot of the staff) behind the scenes like any other place. The food is good but half the time we have eaten there it was SLOW and our food was COLD. Sorry Sandpiper, you are overpriced and overate. I am sorry to say this, but you might as well hit up Red Lobster... P.S. - Good luck parking on Saturday night.

Keep in mind with some of these reviews, Yelp makes money by deleting good reviews and keeping the bad ones until you pay them. Having said that, I thought the place was one of the better restaurants in Pocatello. I usually get a combo plate with some kind of coconut crusted halibut. Very good.

Dry rub ribeye with carmelized onions was mouth-wateringly good. I sat at the bar and watched the Celtics vs. 76'ers game. Nice HD TV at the bar The only negative was the draft handles blocked the bottom of the TV so it was hard to see the scores. The bartender Kevin was on his game. My glass of water never went lower than 2 inches before a refill. Kevin recommended this steak and I was very happy I went with it. I had broccilli as a side which was fresh and tasty. Nice atmosphere. It was quite busy for a Wednesday night but the waitresses all seemed to be in high gear. Overall I highly recommend this place. Also if your staying at a hotel show your room key for a 10% discount . Sweet!

The hubby frequents this restaurant when he's in Pocatello so I went along with his suggestion to dine here. On the strength of the reviews, I had the pan fried oyster appetizer, which was good. I moved on to the Mediterranean penne pasta and IT WAS AWFUL. The pasta was literally soaking in a pool of oil, and sprinkled shamelessly with dried basil. The artichoke hearts were generous, except they were obviously from a can....blah, I can't go on. I had to brush my teeth immediately afterwards to remove the awful taste combination of the dried basil and sour artichoke marinade from my mouth. The hubby was quite disappointed with his raspberry chicken salad as well. Maybe the steaks are better, I don't know. And we never got any of that supposedly great bread. I won't go back there without a fight!

Overpriced, and always cold food. I have eaten here 3 times with the hope it would get better. I have never had a good appetizer, salad, or entree here. This is not fine dining or quality. It is Pocatello's try at fine dining, but they missed it by a long long shot.

It can be a challenge to find a great meal in Pocatello. If you go to the sandpiper your odds have increased. There pan fried oysters for the appetizer the house salad with the house dressing, then the fillet Oscar style with scallops on the side. I almost forgot, they have great bread too.

While staying at the Ameritel, we discovered this local favorite steak and seafood restaurant. Our server Emily was friendly and attentive. Our food was what we expected, traditional and classic...think dark wood and McCormick& Schmidt's..I had the iceberg lettuce salad drenched in blue cheese a la Madmen while my husband enjoyed the perfectly grilled salmon. The manager Rod even personally made our daughter's pizza. Oh and they serve cocktails, too. Best of all, our family dinner bill for four was only$ 62. Wonderful place...

Service is speedy but chippy. Ordered the stuffed halibut. Stuffed with crab and shrimp with a great sauce. About 15 black peppercorns were in the dish. Too overpowering!! If you order the stuffed halibut, order without peppercorns! If u are in pocatello and looking for quality food, sandpiper is a must.

I like the sandpiper. It is the ONLY place in Pocatello that has seared ahi on the menu which is one of my favorites. They also have a decent wine selection and make a great martini (both things hard to find in Pocatello). They have great food in a casual atmosphere. I recommend it. Try the house salad!

I just had appetizers and drinks with a friend at the Sandpiper. The staff there were wonderfully friendly and efficient. The food and drinks however were worse than horrible. The crab cakes were acceptible although too rich for my taste. The SW chicken salad went uneaten as it was basically a head of iceburg lettuce with some grilled chicken on top. Hardly anything else was on it so of course it was not tasty at all. The calamari appetizer was exciting at first glance since it was small steaks rather than the typical rings and tentacles. I got a mix of the plain and the spicy. The plain was way over-breaded and fried. I think there was some meat in there. The spicy ones were caked in chili powder; it was used as a breading rather than a spice. Ick in both cases. And the thing that upset me the most after driving 11 hours to Pocatello was that I just wanted a simple margarita. Not only was there no discernable alcohol content (it was mostly ice), it was the absolutely worst tasting margarita I've ever had. For 3 appetizers, one margarita, and one soda, the bill was $34 which was totally wasted.

This is a vicarious five - I went with a party of about 20 people. I went local -- the Idaho rainbow trout -- which turned out to be a solid four star effort. One of our group ordered a cajun chicken and over penne and someone else ordered a mushroom appetizer -- both were marvelous, leading to envious glances and probing forks all round. Other good picks would include the steaks, ribs and the prime rib, this being buffalo country and all.
