I've spent quite a bit of time here watching and enjoying all the bands play! I come here on a fairly regular basis and also like the food quite a bit. The servers are friendly and help you with deciding what to get. The only down side is its a little expensive but still worth it. Their beer is always great and home grown! Their new Happy Camper IPA is terrific and I hope the continue making it!

Highlights: * Waiter recommended the pizza. It was pretty good. Ordered the Canadian. * Ordered the homemade sarsaparilla Root Beer which was worth it, very good! * Service was slower. 30-40 minutes to receive food. Perhaps because it was a Friday night though. * Waiter was very friendly.

I wanted to thank you and your staff for a great experience last Saturday. My mom's 80th Birthday Dinner turned out perfect. Our server did a nice job with the group and every single member of your staff was extremely polite. The food and and drink was easy to enjoy. I look forward to visiting Portneuf Valley Brewing next time I'm home for a visit. Thank you again for helping with the weekend festivities. Best to you and your staff.

I left Hooligans and found myself HHHHHHHHHHungry almost to the point of hANGRY... Praise the good Lord above I found this place on yelp! I tracked it down and they were still open! I called and ordered from the diverse menu. They gent who took my order over the phone was great. I ordered Hummus as a starter. They happily substituted the pita chips and crostini for extra vegetables. The hummus is like no other hummus I have ever tried. While it is not my favorite. It was not bad. It had a different consistency than I am used to, but a unique flavor. My husband is on a "diet" (we're all gonna die kinda diet) and he had quite a few drinks and would later return to our hotel. Sooooooo being the kinda wife I am, I like to be prepared when he is hungry/hANGRY... So I ordered him the antipasto platter and a side salad. For myself I chose the 1/2 teriyaki bowl and added chicken. This teriyaki bowl is simply amazing! All the ingredients come together so well (minus the crunchy things on top) so unbelievably well that instead of only eating half of it I devoured the entire thing! For a half portion this bowl was very generous. The presentation in the styrofoam container was nice too! The rice came in a styrofoam cup shape and was covered in toaster slivered almonds. I am not drunk, nor starving to death but this teriyaki bowl truly hit the spot. Everything on the online menu sounded great. I wish we had more time in Pocatello but we don't. I would totally be back for more!!! While waiting for my food to be done I could NOT help but notice the beautiful display of graphic beer posters. The Graphics are amazing and the tshirt selection amazingly awesome! I grabbed the "belligerent jack ass" for the husband and "the bitter bitch" tees for my bestie. I also grabbed the "Grog" Nordic designed shirt for my lil brother who is watching my dog. The designs and clever names of the beers are a kick. I also was lucky enough to sample the "Belligerent Jack Ass" nut brown ale and it was pretty good. They were out of "bitter bitch". Do yourself a favor and if you are ever in Pocatello be sure to visit This place. If you don't you will be missing out.

The ambience is great. Exposed brick interior with framed posters of house brew labels. Picture windows into brew rooms. Owner in premises greeted us and checked in to see if we enjoyed the meal. Live music if you want cover rock n roll. But you can eat downstairs where there is 70s music on Sirius. There's also a bar. Cried is college town eclectic. We loved that. In industrial district. Nice story behind the place. Owner former biochemist at university. I ordered custom pizza (see photo) with red peppers extra garlic mozzarella cheese on marinara sauce made at PVB. Delicious. We both had see Salad - lovely romaine and mixed greens with tomato and kalamata olives. We both chose house garlic Italian dressing . Lovely time. There is House brew sasparilla as well as other sodas. I had sparking lemonade. Great. Refreshing. And Refills. My husband didn't care for the house version of jambalaya but everything else delicious. Lots of choice on the menu.

A true gem of a brewery in the most unlikely of locations (the surroundings are very industrial and even somewhat run down). We entered on a Saturday evening, were greeted with smiles and seated straight away. I ordered their Portneuf Cocoa Porter, which was, in a word: delicious. I also enjoyed an order of their Wacky Mac & Cheese which was all oven-baked, crunchy topped, casserole style cheesy loveliness. It also comes with the option of soup or salad on the side. I went for the salad with bleu cheese dressing, The salad was completely fresh and the bleu cheese was house made and topped with amazingly flavorful bleu cheese crumbles. The service was wonderfully friendly. The atmosphere is brew-pub casual. If I lived in Pocoatello, I would definitely find myself spending far too much time here! Get to it!

I've been a few times and whether alone or with a friend, whether they're busy or slow, I've enjoyed each visit. I really enjoy the beer and Penny is a really cool and inspirational woman who remembers me and always makes me feel welcome.

Wow!! Great food and beer.. and the atmosphere and location was great. It's like a hidden gem in Pocatello Idaho... I've been too many breweries throughout the United States.. I highly recommend you to stop.

In a very off the beaten path part of town. Cool old industrial area of town. We only ate appetizers. The hummus was good. The beers were solid and a nice rehab building. Nice to go to a microbrew in a smaller town. Fun place and worth a trip away from the chains in the newer part of town. Main dishes looked good on other tables.

Atmosphere quaint brewery pub. Nice staff. Being a brewery had multi choices and our group chose 4 varieties and everyone was please. We had pizzas and salads. No complaints food was good not spectacular. Fun with a group.

The beer selection is pretty good. Their apparel have awesome graphics. However food is not good. I've been multiple times and have tried many different things--nothing to rave about.

We are from out of town and decided to give them a try. Love the atmosphere and the staff was very friendly. We had a pizza which was incredible along with some dark beer. We would definitely come back.

We stopped in Pocatello on our way to Idaho falls. We yelped places to eat and this place was the highest rated in Pocatello. It was typical bar food and drinks, however the staff was extremely friendly and attentive. If we ever find ourselves in Pocatello again, we may return. It was actually quite busy in there on a Friday night. We had the chipotle chicken quesadilla and it was fairly good.

First and foremost, the beer selection here rocks. The food, not so much and it's extremely overpriced for what you get. I do recommend the small personal pizzas and some brew but you can skip the appetizers and pretty much everything else. I had the Supremo personal pizza and one of their trays of flights. The flight tray was awesome and I ended up having an additional pint of their famous Kristal Hef, which was smooth and refreshing. Service seems to be a bit on the hit and miss side, because our server seemed very uninterested and rarely came around to see how we were doing. No big deal, but I can tell by just looking at her that she's not digging working there. It's all in the eyes. Either way, I recommend Portneuf Valley Brewing for your craft brew needs but if you must get food then split a pizza.

Excellent food! Had Canadian Dreamin' and the pretzel with all three sauces. Pretzel was by far the table favorite! It is a big enough app for a table of 6. The pizza had excellent crust and toppings. Would like a bit more flavorful marinara but seemed like fresh ingredients nonetheless. We also had the Grog and Twisted Amber Ale both very good. Will frequent whenever visiting.

This place is awesome. We had the restaurant host a rehearsal dinner for us. The owner was fabulous to work with and very accommodating. The service was outstanding and our bar tender very attentive. But the food! Oh my hell! it was incredible. I ordered trays of Vegi-Parmesian, Pork Roast, and Beer braised chicken as the main courses. All three were amazing. All of the sides were as well. The spinach-artichoke appetizer was the best I've ever had. All the guests were stuffed by the time the deserts came out; so most of them were boxed up (the deserts, not the guests) and taken home for breakfast. The beer selection is just right for a party and not expensive either. And finally, I had planned for (and paid for) 30 guest but at least 35 showed up. There was plenty of food for all. We will definitely return to Portneuf Valley Brewing next time in Pocatello.

Never have I seen so much cheese on a quesadilla. You would think that's a good thing, but after pulling off nearly a full pound of cheese - processed, trans fat cheese - it starts to get a little annoying. I mentioned to the waitress that I was going to give it to my dog, she twice made comments to the effect that that's not a good idea. But it's okay to feed it to humans? Overall? We were not impressed.

What a nice diner! Two of us stopped in, we are in town for work Great Beer, Great Service i had Krystal Weizen - nice tasty beer! My buddy had the 'ass' beer - sorry I don't know the name it was a darker beer - he loved it! The food was equally good, plenty of it, good flavors and taste, that our server described perfectly. Yep the Chili Soup was VERY spicy... All in all a good find

The first time I tried to order food at PVB (a pizza, nothing special, no substitutions, no special requests), it took over an hour and when it arrived at our table, the crust was uncooked, the cheese unmelted. So we didn't go back for a long time. The second time I tried to order food, I was there for a lunch meeting. I ordered a veggie-and-hummus plate. This lunch is literally sliced vegetables and a cup of hummus. We were one of three tables (it was about 2 in the afternoon), only two of which had ordered any food, and the hummus plate took over half an hour from order to table. So I didn't go back for a long time. I was there tonight, because they were hosting an event. I ordered that same ill-fated hummus plate and a pizza, because I had a child with me who needed dinner. We ordered at 5:45, thinking that would give them enough lead time. A half hour later, the people with us, who'd ordered a pizza at 6:00, got their pizza. It looked okay. at 7:00, we asked about our order, only to be told, "Oh, dude, I forgot to take it downstairs!" So we left, with nothing but a "Sorry, Brah!" for our troubles. [UPDATE: The person placing the order read this review and told me that the order was placed not, as this quote would indicate, with the upstairs bartender, but with the shift manager at the bar downstairs. Which I didn't know and which makes this whole episode even more depressing.] I should note that I am not an educated chimpanzee scientist, as my profile picture might suggest, but a relatively normal human woman who tries very hard to be nice to restaurant workers, having been one myself. But at this point, I can either assume that Portneuf Valley Brewing dislikes me personally, or that their service is pretty spotty and that their food is mostly imaginary. I will avoid going back unless it's unavoidable; this is sometimes the case, as their meeting room above the restaurant proper is popular with my organization. I'll make sure to eat before I go. I have gone in sometimes to meet friends, but only when I do not plan to eat food. The beer is okay, and the sarsaparilla is excellent. But you can't live on root beer. I also like their t-shirts, but I'm fairly certain they're not edible.

Had some delicious beers and a good meal here. We tried 2 or 3 of their beers and liked them all. I got the Belligerent Ass and really liked that. Also their giant soft pretzel is fantastic, definitely my favorite thing we ate. They had a wide variety of food though, and a lot of it looked very good. I haven't spent much time in Pocatello, but this definitely seems like one of the top options in town.

Cool little hidden place in Poky. I haven't gone to the Music they've had but that looks good as well. Enjoyed the meals that I've had there.

  • Steven M.

The food was great. We had the pretzel, a pizza, and the burrito. The "green death" is pretty hot, so watch out. All beers were great. The sausage on the pizza was home made and tasty. The best part was Haile and Elle, the two waitresses. Elle handled a loud and rambunctious table with dignity and grace, while Haile was extremely personable and added a lot of flavor to the meal. Good food, great beer, and excellent service.

Beer is not good. Been brewing for 12 years and the quality just isn't there. Food is good but if the place busy plan on a long wait.

I come up to Pocatello several times a year on a one day trip with my wife. We almost always come here for lunch. We like the pizza. The sandwiches are good. The soup not always so good. I suppose this is a brew pub. I get pub food. When I do, it's good. It's great to have a place with character and pretty good beer. I'd love to have a place like this in my area. The last thing they need is to have anyone plug the dog biscuits. They sell out quickly. They are made from the compressed yeast and our dog loves them. We always get some if they have any.

  • Tabor T.

Nice atmosphere, good beer, and the staff is friendly. It's unique to Pocatello so it's a good place for out-of-town visitors.

  • Konnie B.

I could not say enough good things! Beer was awesome! The pretzel is huge! The lasagna was full of flavor. The salads are made fresh, as in the romaine hadn't been fully cut on a couple of pieces. The wings were very good. Don't let the front of the building fool you! Go in. It's worth it!

I read some of the reviews and wasn't feeling real good about going but it's Pocatello and there's not much going on so I figured I would give it a shot. I didn't eat but the food was good and the staff friendly. the ligertown lager was really good.

As an update to my 6/3/12 review: After living in Pocatello for a year now, I have to say that this is one of the best places in town. And that's simply depressing. The Pros: the Midnight Satin and Krystal Weizen are good, and the Octoberfest was drinkable. The atmosphere is laid back and they bring in live music on the weekends. They support art walk, which i think is great. Service is a-ok, too. I also enjoy the back patio. The Cons: I find the food to be awful. i don't really eat pizza, so i cant comment on that, but my friends say that it is good. However, I have eaten three different items (the Curry, a Philly steak, and a chicken gyro). With each meal, a little part of me died. They all had what I call the "Idaho twist," where restaurants take a perfectly well-established menu item and proceed to wreck it by changing up some ingredient(s) in an effort to be "creative." Please stop this. Authenticity is important. Given the limited number of bars in Pocatello where the likelihood of being shanked by a railroad hobo is minimal, I feel like PVB has the potential to deliver a superior product. It SHOULD be packed every night of the week. I appreciate what it is trying to do, but it is missing a vibrancy, for lack of a better word.

This place is cool. The atmosphere is nice (relaxed, pleasant), service was decent, and the beer was good. We also ordered breadsticks which were uniquely presented and tasted good as well. I enjoyed the lager (yum), and we also sampled a variety of others in a flight. Pretty good way to taste everything for a reasonable price ($1 each). I've also always enjoyed their nut brown ale. Their porter and seasonal liquid haze was a little strange, but interesting. It's too bad that Pocatello only has one brewery, but it's certainly gets the job done. I just wish they bottled so I could take some back to Oregon.

Except for the service, I didn't like anything about this place. First, the interior is tired and worn down. We were seated at a large table on the second floor next to storage cabinets. The whole seating area felt run down, like I was eating in someone's unfinished basement. Not appetizing. As for the food, not appetizing either. The menu is odd. No burgers or fries? I've never seen a brewery/pub menu without burgers or fries. I ordered a chicken gyro. Not sure what I got, but that wasn't a gyro. It was served in a tortilla with feta cheese. I enjoy a twist on traditional food if it's done well, but this wasn't. Others in my party got the pizza, which looked good, but I didn't try it. I also can't speak to the beer since I didn't have any. But I did have wine and I can safely say, avoid the wine. Nothing on the wine list is decent if you like good wine. Lastly and what I disliked most was that our water was served in flimsy plastic solo cups. Is it too much to ask for a real glass? I expect more from what should be a proper restaurant.

Very impressed. Our server was very kind and attentive, the food was delicious, and the beer was some of the best I've ever had (I had the Belligerent Ass Brown Ale and my boyfriend had the Midnight Satin porter). The place was high quality, but had a relaxed atmosphere.

Lunch today was marginal and the service was slow. Disappointing. Atmosphere is casual and inviting.

Great antipasto plate. It's served warm and deliciously seasoned. Salads are crunchy and very fresh. We had the 1oz beer tasters to help us decide which of the in-house brews to order. The Twisted Stick is thoroughly refreshing. Great service too! The chef came out and greeted us! We will definitely return!!

slow service - pizza dough was bland and even though they come up on yelp as a sports bar they did not have a TV for the final 4 games

A friend and I ate here on a Tuesday, I had the chicken curry and he had a burger (which they don't usually offer) Everything was great, the curry, the salad, the hummus app. and the beer. Service was fast with a smile and very knowledgeable wait-staff.

Found this cute, little place in the AAA guide book. Worth the short drive from I-15. Great Sarsaparilla! Also enjoyed their Twisted Stick microbrew with an excellent smoked turkey wrap and a nice chicken curry. Eclectic menu with good selection of craft beer.

Good Beers in a small town brewery. The food was OK but nothing special. The dog biscuits were devoured by my canine friend.

Pocatello has been in need of a brewery for a very long time. Fortunately, a few years ago the Portneuf Valley Brewing (PVB) came to town. I've got to admit, when I first started frequenting this establishment, it was pretty rough, but since then it has GREATLY improved. I am now a regular there and a proud and devoted member of their Mug Club. The building is located in the old East Idaho Brewing Company building on 1st Ave., directly on the east side of the railroad tracks, in what is considered the "warehouse district" of Pocatello. The area has recently started to be rejuvenated, with many businesses converting the old warehouse buildings into new/modern buildings. PVB was one of the original businesses in this area to lend their hand in the rejuvenation process, helping boost the economy and providing Pocatello with what is currently it's only brewpub. The staff is very efficient and personable, the beer is great and the food is excellent. If you are looking for cheeseburger and fries or "bar food", you will not find it here. You will, however, find a great assortment of menu items that will surely satisfy your appetite (my favorite is the smoked turkey wrap). I would consider PVB to actually be a "gastropub", since they serve high-end beer and food. Their assortment of beer that is brewed at PVB is delicious (my favorite is the Ligertown Lager)! You can order a pint, sampler tray is available if you are interested in trying all of their beers on tap or you can get a growler to go. I can promise you that you will not be disappointed. PVB's atmosphere is great! It is very relaxed and comfortable. You can sit at the bar top, or at a table/booth. There is also a back porch where you can enjoy a beer, watch the trains go by and has a great view of the beautiful west side of the Portneuf Valley. PVB also has a large upstairs loft, with another bar top and plenty of seating. The loft has a stage that plays host to weekly live music and events. In conclusion, I would highly recommend PVB to locals and visitors and especially beer connoisseurs. Support you local brewery!

Stopped in here while on a business trip not too long ago and had the chipotle bbq burrito - awesome stuff, super fresh ingredients, and when you cut into it you can identify all the individual ingredients but then when you take a bite none of the flavors stood out - they all melded very well together into an excellent tasting burrito. Props on the homemade sauce too, had a nice flavor-full spice kick! I liked it so much i went back the next day before flying home and had the bavarian bun - i love german food and this was phenomenal with the mustard! So glad i stopped back in to try the bun. Had the belligerent ass nut brown ale only while there and it was def worthy of being on a short list of my favorite brown ales - wish they bottled it..

Things I love about PVB: *The giant salty pretzel *The vegetarian options *The support for the musicians in Pocatello *Housemade beers *The loft upstairs is great for parties (which i recently had there) *Penny *The cute waiter who wears hats and is always on his game This that are less than stellar: * It takes forever...9 out of 10 times the service is slow and sometimes off. The above mentioned server is good, but other than that, it has always been very slow. If you are in a hurry call ahead or go somewhere different. And for god's sake, get the giant salty pretzel. It is delicious.

Stopped in while in town for an inteview, intent of ordering the biggest steak on offer. My mistake! The don't serve steaks, so a (very nice) thick crust pizza with Canadian bacon, pineapple, artichoke hearts ad sun dried tomatos had to suffice. It was tasty, but be warned: their portions are ample! The Ligertown Lager was excellent. The place has a nice, relaxed vibe.

  • Meagan D.

NOT GOOD FOOD!!! We went here while driving through on a road trip and stopped because of the yelp reviews. We were both heavily disappointing. I had a glass of Pinot Nior and the Mac n Cheese. The Mac was made with left over pasta scraps throughout the year (gross) the sauce was super bland, and they topped it with tortilla chips (double gross). If any of this was listed on the menu it would be one thing, but it was all around not a good meal.

Don't miss out on some savory brews and food at Penny Pink's microbrewery in Pocatello. A wide selection of homemade dishes compliment the beer, including some of German influence. Not a frequent beer drinker, I enjoyed the Midnight Satin, a dark, smooth, sweet brew with coffee undertones. We were there for lunch and felt comfortable and well served. Evenings often feature live music. Do take a look at the spotless brewing room.

Wacky Mac and Cheese. What?! So good. They also have great pizza and some truly tasty beers. My personal favorite is the Portneuf Porter.

  • Sheila S.

I rate this four stars for the beer, and three for the food. The variety of beers is impressive, and there is something for everyone who likes beer. They also have great t-shirts designed for each of their varieties of beer. I enjoyed the Twisted Stick Amber Ale which was pretty hoppy for an amber ale (tasted more like American ale), and I really liked the season Scotch Ale. For food, pizza is definitely the way to go. I ordered the pesto veggie sandwich and was very disappointed; I ended up stealing from my colleague's pizza which was delicious. We also started with the gigantic soft pretzel which is enough for 4 people to easily share! Props to Pocatello for having a place like this! I hope this business is successful and recommend anyone to check it out!

Visit: 7pm 2/13/10 Pizza and beer after a full day of snowshoeing sounds fantastic, right? Well, pizza and this brewery's house drafts turn fantastic into phenomenal!!! The service was superb, the pizza was mouthwatering, and after a tasty couple pints of "grog" and Ligertown Lager, I was convinced to give it 5 stars. Heck, I even bought 3 of their t-shirts on my way out! I live in Los Angeles, but having grown up in Montana, this place reminded me of places back home. Good eats, great peeps. I'll be back on every visit to the Pocatello area!

Service was terribly slow. We are locals from this area, and every time we go here, they seem to set a new world record for slowest service ever. I created a yelp account just to leave a review for this place. The food was incredibly way to spicy. The server took my food before I was even finished. If your going to go to Portneuf Vally Brewery, your probably going to have a bad time.

After ending a magnificent trip to Yellowstone with some fantastic girlfriends, we headed out back towards Salt Lake City and found ourselves stopped for the night in Pocatello. After driving through mostly agricultural land and ending up in a small town, we were hopefully but not too expectant about what kind of food and drink we might find here. We consulted our trusty yelp, and were beyond pleased to find the promise of microbrew and food. The atmosphere was pretty chill, fitting with a Monday night in a college town. Service was friendly and accommodating. The the grub was standard but tasty - some salads, pizza, soups, sandwiches. Portions are generous. I got the Mediterranean salad - A mix of tomatoes, green peppers, feta cheese and red onion slices, kalamata olives and pepperoncini on a bed of mixed greens with a vinagrette dressing. The side salads that come with any of the meals are essentially the Mediterranean minus the feta, so seems like getting a meal is a better deal. We also tasted the Wacky macaroni - oh my, that is good stuff... Not for the faint... Luxurious. Our third taste was a soup of the day, which was actully rather uninteresting, but came with the tasty salad and what seemed like half a loaf of homemade beer bread - yet again - good stuff. But, we came here for the beer! Drowning our sorrows is the perfect way to end a vacation, and this did not dissappoint. We split a couple samplers, which came with 3 oz portions of every beer they had! Woo-hoo! Prices are VERY reasonable at $1 a sample. Each of those platters are $10 well spent. There is something for everyone, covering a full range of light to dark. I didn't take good enough notes to remember but that night the beer trended more towards the dark and rich, although there were a couple of samples than made our staunch IPA lovers happy. I highlty suggest tasting platters for newbies if you are a) not driving or b) have a friend to share with. Portneuf Valley Brewing was the perfect way to end a wonderful trip!

The one caveat is that there are no TV's in this restaurant. I had stopped here before hoping to catch a football game but because of that had to move on to other bars in town. Came back a few months later and enjoyed a late night dinner. The service was great, the beer was delicious, and they had a few food and beer specials. There was a live band playing on the back deck and I imagine that was probably a pretty lively scene. I had a smothered burrito, which was good and very filling, if slightly bland. All in all a pretty good spot, just don't come expecting to watch any sporting events.

I love this locally owned pub. Excellent beer and good food. A great relaxed atmosphere. Go to listen to a local band and have a pitcher.

Craft brewing has matured to the point where one should be able to expect (demand) an excellent product. Well, not so at PVB. I stopped by twice during a recent trip to Pocatello. The first time I had a Pale Ale that had about the same body as club soda. The next time, wanting something a little bolder, I tried the IPA. Blech! Folks, IPA is supposed to have some hop nose and taste. The food....I ordered a pizza. Not being a fan of thick, doughy crusts I asked if they could make me a thin crust. No problem replied the friendly waiter. What I received was a thick, doughy, underbaked thing that more closely resembled quiche than pizza. On the up side, everyone working there seemed happy and friendly.

We had to leave before the live music on our visit, but I must say the space is nice, the pizza was tasty, and the beer was good. The labels for the non-existant bottles are pretty entertaining, don't forget to look around at the walls.

Good beers. Good service. Patio in back if you want to see trains and train tracks. Great T-shirts and posters. Very good giant pretzel. Definitely worth stopping at if you're in Pocatello.

5 Stars for the Beer, which was excellent. I had the Krystal Weizen, which I liked a great deal, and the Irish Gold (one of their two seasonals), which was even better. 2 stars for the food/service, which left something to be desired. I ordered a triple mushroom pizza (meaning a 3 topping pizza, with all of the toppings being mushroom, as I explained to the waitress when ordering). I was brought a pizza that had about half of the mushrooms I would expect from simply ordering a single topping mushroom pizza. It was OK, but it wasn't what I ordered, and it wasn't what I wanted. I didn't send it back as I didn't feel like going to the hassle (and was quite hungry). Plus, since the waitress hadn't gotten the order correct the first time (and had not noticed that my pizza was not as ordered) I wasn't confident in her ability to correct the error. A note about the pizza dough- it's more of a bread, as opposed to a 'traditional' pizza dough. A bit more yeasty, with more of a rise. We also ordered a giant pretzel, which was not made of pretzel dough (very disappointing!! I had been hoping for a big German Style 'Bretzel' to enjoy with my beer), and seemed to be made of the same dough as the pizza crust. The space has a great ambiance, and it did feel like a little slice of Colorado. We didn't have time to stay until the live music started, but it looked like it was going to be a lot of fun.

The pizza is delish as well as the twisted? I will return, oh yes.

Their Krystal Weizen is quite possibly the best I have ever had, this coming from someone who lived in Germany. It's a perfect beer, I could have drank just 6 of those for dinner and would have been just as content. Also tried their Pilsner, good, but not as impressive. It was a week ago, but still thinking about that Krystal Weizen...so good! Their menu was a tad confusing with no real theme, but definitely a selection from large salads, pasta, sandwiches and pizza. In my adventurous way I tried the bun/pork/german thing which I have to say was pretty bland. Put some marinara on it and that seemed to help. Colleague's lasagne looked and tasted amazing. Folks at the table across the way having sandwiches looked pretty content. Definitely a spot to check out if you find yourself in the area, little out of the way - so you have to drive there - and unfortunately not overdo it unless you have someone with you that hates beer.

I am a microbrewery fanatic. When I travel, I search for microbreweries in advance to include them in my itinerary. At the end of a recent trip to Yellowstone and Big Sky, MT, I was driving south through Idaho and hunted for Portneuf Valley Brewery. As an out-of-towner with no GPS, I got lost. I asked a local if she could direct me and she said "Easy-peasey, I go there all the time!" This was a good sign! The hunt proved well worth it. My partner and I shared two pints (alas, the remainder of the day's drive to SLC would not allow for more). The Twisted Stick Amber was rich and delicious with beautiful color - very smooth. Even better was the Grog IPA. This beer was crisp and hop-licious, one of the best IPA's I've ever had (and that has been many!). As we had just stopped for lunch an hour before, we didn't eat but the menu looked great. The service was top notch, our bartender indulging all my questions about the operation, distribution, and the story about brew mistress/owner Penny. A special nod to bar manager, Luke. Upon arriving in SLC that night, I discovered that I had left my camera at the brewpub. Knowing I could not make it back that night and still make my flight, I was beside myself. I called the brewpub and spoke with Luke. He had found my camera and offered to mail it back to me in Florida. He even called me the next day to confirm that he had done so. He refused to let me reimburse him for the postage, let alone for his kindness. I owe him a debt of gratitude for saving my trip pictures and restoring some of my lost faith in the kindness of my fellow man! Kudos to Penny for making her dream come true. The beer is great, the merchandise art work is creative and fun, and the character of her staff is second to none. I will be back to PVB next time I'm out West! Cheers!!

ya im easily giving this brewery 5 stars. nice lil cozy spot in a quiet lil college town/big city Pocatelo just blocks from where Idaho State University is located i found this place via nearby restaurant search on yelp and once i seen that it was a brewery i was like fk all the other matches and immediately exited the I-15 freeway the parking outside was kinda sketchy not like someones gonna steal the car, but ur not really sure where u can park its a cozy little spot with about 6 tables for customers there's a specials board make sure u read it. i walked straight to the bar and noticed 9 taps of beer immediately ordered a sampler of four beers each sampler is $1 after trying four i immediately ordered 2 more. the ones i tried were: 1. bad ass beligerent ale 2. grog IPA 3. a mystic velvet or something 4. the porter 5. Krystal Weizen and one more i cant remember now they were all great!! spoke to the bartender about the beer and was informed that they don't ship the beer much anywhere besides locally. talked about the LA beer craze nowadays and recommended that they bring some of their shit to LA. was on an adventure to Craters of the Moon national preserve and couldn't stay or drink to long so i checked the menu out and saw that there was two kinds of soup, chose the Red Death soup. holycrap it was bomb!!! a barley/whatever chowder with seafood and veggies. spicy as hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!! excellent!!! theres a large pizza selection too as well as something called Nacho Tato which is a crazy ass stuffed baked potato will come by again next time i dip to pocatelo whenever the fk that is

Have you been upstairs for an event during the summer? I've been to two, and myself and majority of others usually leave within 30-60 minutes. The reason: the HEAT! There's no air conditioner that is turned on and you sit in you sweaty clothes. Don't EVER book an event there if you plan on it lasting very long.

Food wasn't amazing but it was good standard fare. Nothing exotic but it wasn't bad. Beer is solid as well. No complaints. Very clean and well lit so it doesn't have a bar feel.

Super cool place! located in a nice old building, exposed brick walls, microbrewery on premise. I like the atmosphere. Weird miscue on entry. It sure looked to me like they had a hostess station at the front, so I was waiting for someone to seat me. After an almost uncomfortable wait, a waitress came and told me to sit anywhere. I wonder if I'm the first to make that mistake. I started off with the Ligerville Lager. It was a bit disappointing. I'm a huge fan of the classic Pilsner style, but this one was just a little lackluster all around. I will say that a true crisp Pilsner is one of the most challenging styles of beer to brew so I will give them credit for trying. A lot of lesser microbreweries just stick to ales and don't even bother with lagers. For my next beer, I moved to the Belligerent Ass Nut Brown Ale. Whoa, that was good choice. A very nice brew. Rich, malty, and very well balanced for a microbrew. Nice job brewmaster! I ordered a custom pizza for my dinner. I went with the small (12") as I thought the 8" might be too small. Ended up taking a couple slices home with me. Hmmm breakfast pizza! The pizza was really very good. Ingredients all seemed to be very fresh. I like that they have a wide range of options for building a custom pizza. I got mine with pepperoni, green peppers, and artichoke hearts. Overall, a nice time. Service was a tiny bit slow, but not bad. If I lived in Pocatello, I could see myself coming back here a lot.

I and several work colleagues were in town for 10 days for work. We found Portneuf Valley Brewing via Yelp and am I glad we did! There were two vegetarians and at least 6 carnivores; Portneuf had something for everyone. The beer was so good, after I sent my husband a photo of the Midnight Satin I took a growler home for him. I don't know why others complained about the service; we had terrific servers who recognized us all after the first night. Plenty of food, great atmosphere, and a big asset to Pocatello. If I find myself in Pocatello again, this will be the first place I have dinner.

On our way to the university of north Dakota from Los Angeles so we stopped for the night. Great local hand crafted beers. Cool place. The rust bucket red was an awesome hoppy red lager. Had the burrito with hot sauce . Very good. Pizza supremo was truly supremo! A must stop!

Ahh the Brewery. Let me start this review by saying that I don't drink alcohol. Nevertheless Brewery is a great place to eat! The food is original, fairly priced, and tasty! I recommend the Salty Pretzel with the cheese sauce... Oh... So good... Monday is open Mic, Tuesday night is Jam session, and there is always a band on Friday & Saturday! WOAH! HOLD ON! Someone in Pocatello can actually eat and listen to good music. Now this place has got class. Go eat a pretzel, buy a t-shirt and enjoy! This is the place for Pocatello.

The Brewery is a great place to hang out in Pocatello! I mostly go there to eat the nachos, drink some diet Coke, and listen to the jam sessions on Tuesday nights. This place is pretty progressive for little Pocatello, and probably one of the only cool places to hang out at night. So, go here! It's cool, fun, the staff is nice, laid back, but attentive!

Fast, friendly and professional service. The pizza was pretty decent and our guests liked what they ordered too. They are a brewery BUT have a small selection of beers! I EXPECT MORE! A LOT MORE. ;) I would like to see not only more beers, but more extreme beers on the menu. Lambics, Double IPAs, guest beers, Imperial porters, etc.! If you are going to be common why not be awesome and common? It's kind of the same thing as the breweries in west Montana. There will be 6 or 7 beers on the menu and all them them at 7% ABV or less. Sometimes half of the beers will be 3.5 to 5% ABV. Typical, non offensive common beer styles only... That's not what a brewery should be! They should push the envelopes of brewing and strive to carve a niche somehow. Hopefully with their beer! PVB's Grog IPA was the mellowest, thinnest and nearly the flattest IPA I've ever drank. Very little hop flavor. It was good...but like a walk in the park with grandma. I only had one pint as I was in the mood for STRONG beer and I could see that couldn't deliver that night. If the beer was exceptional, which it was not, (and I wasn't the DD) I would have probably had a pitcher to myself. I will be back to try more though! I guess they're brewing for the typical, new beer drinker. That may make some business sense but I'd like to use Pizza Port of Carlsbad, CA as an example. They have A LOT of taps. Around 25-30 if I had to make a rough guess. But, they will have some mellow beers at 3.5 to 6% abv and then the other half of the beers will be for your proud beer snob. There is often quite a few 11-14% ABV beers on tap! And guess what? They are flooded with people on the weekend. You may have to wait over 20 minutes for a close parking spot, 10 minutes for beer and nearly an hour for your food! Plus, they are not that much bigger than the place at PVB! Having some "extreme" beers for us beer geeks won't hurt anybody! Better food or beer (or both) would have raised this review up to four or five stars. The owners need to take a trip to Pizza Port in Carlsbad, CA or Toronado in San Diego and San Francisco . Now mind you, I'm not trying to SoCal-ize Pocatello! BUT, better beer (and more beer) is always a good thing...right? This is a fact for me. I don't care who you are. Toronado in SD is a really small place and a lot/all of their beers are guest beers so PVB has no excuse when it comes to the size of their building! ;) The employees of this place were friendlier than the employees of PP Carlsbad if that helps clear up my point...

I was disappointed by the beer the first time I was here; seemed too malty. The second time i tried the Krystal and it was better. The third time I had the sampler and the IPA tasted much better this time than the first; the Krystal was still good. The food has larger-than-Poky creativity and freshness and I was impressed. One of the better poky restaurants I've been too. There's been live music upstairs every time I've been here which is great. Overall, though, the beer is inconsistent and not amazing. Edit after 8 to 10 visits: inconsistent beer and food. Has potential but I wish it was better!

A great brewery with great food! I tried their beer sampler, and all of their brews had a great distinct taste! I can't remember which one I liked the best, but all were really great. For dinner I had their mac and cheese, and it was delicious! They even had some crushed tortilla chips on top of it adding to the flavor! We had a large party, and the servers were very accommodating! They even have really great shirts that go with the names of the brews! So if you find one you like, you should get the matching shirt! They're great! Too bad this brewery is all the way in Idaho, otherwise I'd visit more often!

Excellent beer! Excsllent food! I was in town for a promotional interview for my job and had some spare time to kill after the interview, everyone I spoke to said this place had the best beer in town and excellent food to go with it, gave it a shot and I have been raving ever since! I may make a trip back to poky just for some good beer and great food. I had the award winning belligerent ass nut ale and it goes excellent with pretty much anything on the menu. I had the smothered burrito and took my servers advice and went with the chipotle chicken with the hot salsa, and honestly speaking it was THE best smothered burrito I have ever had, it was cooked to perfection with the right amount of cheese. The chicken had this delicious smoky sweet spicy flavor and was very juicy. And to top it off the homemade hot salsa (green) was amazing! I wish I could get the recipie for it! And probably the best moment was when I saw the owner Penny walk in and I shouted at her to come talk to me and she took the time out of whatever she was doing to talk to me so I could rave about her beer! Keep up the great work penny and all ya'all should visit soon!

Service rules, beer is terrible, food is good. Never had bad service here. The beers are horrible, they have no alcohol in them. The amber tastes like cigarettes in beer. trust me, first hand, I've had that happen at parties. Food is GREAT, except for favorite of most people, which is the bun thing which has too much fennel.

Stumbled across the brewery while driving through from Salt Lake City back to Montana. We really didn't want to do drive thru so we yelped the area and found this gem! Beer was fantastic and pizza was tasty. We opted for the taster spread and enjoyed all the brews. Service was great and we enjoyed our pit stop in Pocatello.

my family and i had just done an 8 mile trail run and my dad was excited to come and try this place. so we walked in at around 4 pm we got a couple blank stares. (it was hot and we had just ran 8 miles so we looked super cute...) we werent sure if we were to seat ourselves and no one really told us until we asked. and then we saw that there was outdoor seating! awesome! especially for the nice day. my little 13 year brother liked it because it is located next to the trains in the industrial part which was pretty neat. the menu had a fairly good selection. they make their own rootbeer and i HIGHLY suggest that you get it. nachos were alright and so was their pizza. pizza was a little too bready...but they make it homemade fresh right there so that made up for it. i most likely wont be going back there after trail running again.

I've had lunch here a few times. The service is great and the beer is good. The menu, however, is fairly boring. I've tried the quesadilla, vegetarian burrito, and teriyaki bowl. They were all fine. Just fine, not great or amazing. I thought the vegetarian burrito was especially bland. But it's hard to argue with the price.

What place has great food, atmosphere and service even when they're at their busiest? Portneuf Valley Brewing does! Obviously, the main reason for going to a brewery is to have beer, and their beer is really good. I can't speak for any of the lighter stuff, but the Belligerent Ass Nut Brown Ale, Porter, and Midnight Satin were all excellent. Clearly I'm a fan of dark beer (as are my usual beer drinking companions). We all agreed that the beer was excellent. If you are normally a fan of Coors, Budwieser or any of the other crap beers, this may not be the place for you... but give it a try anyhow. You might just find what you've been missing your whole life! The food is good too. Some items are hit and miss, but the burritos and pizzas are awesome. You can tell the food is prepped and cooked here, not a bunch of pre-made frozen stuff heated up. For this reason, it may take a bit longer to get your food than some people have the patience for. But, it's worth waiting for. Plus, they'll keep the beers coming as long as you keep drinking them, so time passes nicely if you're in good company. Service is great. Even though it's busy, you will be checked on regularly. The folks that work here are down to earth and fun. Genuinely nice people! I'm loving Portneuf Valley Brewing.

Walk into proprietess Penny Pink's place in Pocatello, and one soon realizes it's got way more than alliteration going for it. Brewing beers and beating bongos give this spot an authentically cool vibe, and whaddaya know, the food and service are great too. Don't be in a hurry - Listen to Janis and Jimi while you wait and chill.

We couldn't bring ourselves to hit up a drive-through on a road trip from Yellowstone, so I did a quick Yelp search and found this place -- what a find! Friendly service, yummy food, fun beers. Surprisingly fresh spaghetti for only $5 at lunchtime.

PVB has a good selection of on-site brewed beer that are good. The food is average at best. The service was good. The pizza is not bad. A decent place for pizza, beer, and listening to local musicians.

This is a truly great find especially if you're looking for something that is unique to the local flavor. We started with a huge pretzel with mozzarella cheese melted on it as an appetizer and dipped it in marinara sauce. My wife had some amazing jambalaya and I had this thing called a Bavarian bun. it had ground pork, cabbage and some other good stuff and it was cooked into a kind of a crusty bread bun. The beer was a great compliment. They have darks, ambers, pales, everything. I'm only sorry that we had to leave before the live entertainment started. This is a rustic, fun place and the help was very friendly and attentive. Moderately priced, and so worth a good tip.
