When they hit they hit big, when they miss they just stumble all over themselves. Most of the time the food is fresh and delicious, spaced out just right. Other times it's cold soup followed by a sandwich before you have a chance to eat any soup, so one gets cold while you eat the other. Basically if there's a crowd and the staff is crowded around talking, walk away. If everyone is actually working your in for a real treat.

Never disappointed. My favorite deal is the SST: soup, sandwich, and treat. Love love their chicken noodle soup and their twists. And the price of the meal is around $6. Totally worth it. Service is pretty good. Better if you're a regular, but everyone is polite all the same.

Great place for breakfast in Pocatello. Cinnamon Twist was almost a breakfast alone. Highly recommend.

Stopped in after a long day of tourist activities in Idaho. What a gem. Great food and even better service. Kyle was our exceptional server. He was very attentive and on top of things. The cinnamon twists are out of this world. I had the chicken fried steak and it was awesome. Wife had ital sausage sandwich and again awesome. Wish there were more places like these

Great service! Very nice family restraint. Came for Father's Day breakfast. Everyone loves the twist!

I really didn't understand the 4+ star review. Yes, it's an old family diner, but no alcohol of any kind and the food was mediocre at best. The service was good, but that doesn't change the boring taste of the food. Sorry!

Let me start by saying that my five star rating is for this class of restaurant: a family restaurant, a diner. I had lunch here twice in a week, both times with two kids and another time with an additional diner. Both times we had very friendly service, with multiple check-ins to see if we needed anything else. The kitchen accommodated our minor special requests with no objection. The cinnamon twists are an epic treat! I also especially enjoyed the vegetarian soup, which was as good as or even better than what I make at home. My kids raved about the quality of the bacon that came with their breakfast dishes (breakfast is served all day). We also enjoyed the unusual Oatmeal Pie -- trust me, it's better than it sounds. It's similar to a southern pecan pie, but without the pecans, and with some rolled oats in the sweet gooey matrix. It was served heated, which was a plus. Next time I am in Pocatello, I will definitely return to Butterburrs.

Good service, friendly staff, tons of good food for cheap. Recommend the oatmeal pie. Cream of bacon soup was delicious. Lots of chicken fried options.

I wasn't a huge fan my first time at Butterburrs. The look and feel to the place leaves some to be desired, but the food really is good, so I'm now a repeat customer. Great prices too! I always go for lunch and get the SST special which is a sandwich, soup/salad, and a treat for around $7. The potato soup is always better than I expect it to be. And super filling! French Vegetable soup was just okay. My favorite sandwich is the Cheese Frenchy. It's a battered and fried grilled cheese. Yes, it will probably shorten your lifespan, but it is soooo very good. I've tried a few other sandwiches that were all good, but now I always get that Frenchy. For treats, the oatmeal pie can't be beat. It's pecan pie's cousin and it is surprisingly delicious. Their twists and coconut cream pie are also pretty dang good. Anyway, Butterburrs is nothing fancy, but they never disappoint. It's a cheap, filling, and tasty meal that can't be beat.

This is definitely one of the best food places I have been to during my family road trip. The service was great and even when they close at 11 on Fri., they don't rush you if you come at 10:00. Now food-wise, it is crazy! Portions are huge and taste amazing and cheap. I had the SST special and there sandwiches are 3-inch. It was more! I was with my family of five and the whole bill was ~$52. Talk about cheap and big! Can't get like this in Cali. I recommend people to stop by and give this place a go cuz it really is worth it.

The service was very good, but the biscuits and gravy were not. I will probably give the place another try some time, but I will definitely not get the biscuits and gravy again.

The food was amazing and they gave us so much that we took home a equivalent of probably 2 meals!! Highly recommend

The staff were very friendly from the sign in desk to wait staff. Excellent service and food. We plan to go back often.

This establishment is a solid 4 star. 5 is very hard to obtain. Let me talk about what I enjoyed about this place. Service: The waiter was very friendly, up front and walked us through the menu at a quick pace, and didn't linger. He allowed us to enjoy our dinner on a Sunday. Hours: They were open on Sunday. We were traveling for the Eastern Idaho State fair and this was one of the few places that were open in this small college town on a Sunday. Food: I had the Seven Hour Pot Roast and it was very good. It was a tad under seasoned and with a few dashes of the season salt mixture on the table my pot roast was tasty. Let's talk about what could have been better. Breadstick: I ordered the plain one and it was dry, and didn't seem very fresh. Order the Maple or cinnamon versions they were much better. The Potato portion on the Large Seven Hour Pot Roast seemed a bit light. Then again, I am a big eater, I was hungry. I would revisit Butterburrs again. Seems like a very good establishment and pretty good prices for the value.

Over rated. Have given this place three trys, breakfast ,lunch and dinner. The oatmeal pie and bread were the only things worth walking through the door for. Average at best.

If you don't like home made good food, big portions and a great staff, don't come here. If you love a good home cooked meal this is the place.

This is a great place to go for a nice filling meal. I wouldn't call it fantastic, but definitely tasty, and for a very affordable price. I recommend the scones. (I would avoid the chocolate milk, it's pretty bland, but that's my only gripe about the food quality).

Went here during a summer motorcycle trip across a lot of states. Everywhere we stopped we asked about the best places to eat. For breakfast we stopped here and none of us (5 total) were disappointed. Service was great, portions were filling, but the reason I was so compelled to write a review is the CINNAMON TWIST!! The most delicious breakfast dessert I've ever had. They even said they're famous for them, I could see why. Highly recommend this place. If for some reason I ever find myself in Idaho again, I hope it's near Pocatello.

On the recommendation of my sister we went here for breakfast. Food was good, prices reasonable and service very good, I recommend it for a good breakfast.

Named after the owner of the Prancing Pony in lord of the rings, this place is a fantastic place to go for classic american food. We went for lunch and enjoyed their SST special (soup, sandwich, and a treat). The SST includes a 3 inch sandwich, which sounds small but is very wide and hearty. We got pie for our treat and the slices were very generous. Great place for lunch--we left feeling very full and satisfied. The service as also wonderful, our waitress Kayla was very knowledgeable about the menu and we enjoyed her suggestions.

Usually I stop in Pocatello for some kind of meal on my way to and from Salt Lake. Usually I eat somewhere close to the freeway like Perkins or Jack in the box. But my son had been raving about this place his friends took him to. So when my husband and I came down to have his phone repaired we decided to try it. I have only been here once and I really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. I would definitely eat here again.

Waitresses alone are worth the stop. Coffee is fantastic, rare for a Mormon place ;). Definitely will be back.

So I'm not sure what I'm missing here, the place was packed and that's usually a good sign, but when we got served (which was fast for the amount of people) the food kept disappointing along the way. First was the clam chowder, which was a lot more thick than creamy, there wasn't that many chunks of clam meat, and when you did get some, it was sorta gelatinous and just.. off. Next up was the chicken fried steak sandwich severed open face with mashed potatoes, and while the steak itself was pretty decent, I can't say the same for the potatoes. They were kind of watered down, if you can call it that, maybe I just like mine thicker, but they were too bland. And while they had some chunks of potato inside them, it couldn't save them. Next up was the oatmeal pie, which was probably the best thing that I had, however it was really hot on the edge enough to burn my mouth, but cold near the back... a sign of it being microwaved? I'm not sure, but it was pretty good after the fact that I had to wait for it to settle. Overall, I can't see myself coming back here, the food isn't tasty, the wait is long, but the only saving grace is the service and speed.

Haven't had anything bad yet, the oatmeal pie is to die for! Locally owned and operated, the servers are friendly, atmosphere is definitely family friendly. Great place for a group get together, a quick snack or a lunch to go. Check out their SST and other homemade pies. Even better, they'll cater an event for you!

This place is just a carb mill. I got sick, my first EVER case of heartburn, from eating here. I would NOT recommend it, unless you are looking for a very common, Mid-Western carb fest.

I give Butterburrs one star for the name alone. That and the cinnamon twists. Excellent. Otherwise, standard diner food and nothing too spectacular. Service was great though.

Just OK . I had the chicken fried steak . It is a pre formed patty with packaged gravy . The mashed potatoes were real but cold .the pie was fair . Really a dissapointament .

Great: -Pies! Taste and variety of pies. Sooooo gooood! -The theme! I'm a huge Lord of the Rings Fan! -The staff's enthusiasm was magnetic. I really enjoyed their banter and smiles. -Generally great breakfast foods Improvements: (because I want them to be super awesome and get my 5 stars) -Ask customers for feedback at the register -Improve the quality of the salads! They were gross and cheap compared to the quality of ALL the other foods. The croutons were a 10 and the greens were a 2. -Upgrade some of the merchandise (I know you hide them in the back room) to follow the movies, but if you choose not to pay royalties, then at least DISPLAY your merchandise near the register so fans and customers can purchase them. -Open on weekends at night and turn the place into a Pub as the place is suppose to be. Then email Steven Colbert and invite him to this Pub because he's one of the biggest LOTR fans of all time. Muah from California!

On a business trip and, I'd been stuck for a few weeks with Appleby's and the other 5 chains anyone can find anywhere. I was missing my wife's cooking, then I stumbled into this Ma & Pop restaurant. Butter Burr's offers a full course meal which includes drink, salad, entree, and desert. It was tasty and large. I usually had to skip the pie, because I was so full. This is not a gourmet restaurant......it was just like eating mom's cooking! Not only was the food like mom's, the owner reminded me of a country soccer mom, who reminded me of my mother. I chatted with her, met her husband and several of her children before I left town.......Good people. For a family away from your family. It is a wholesome restaurant, that put's out American comfort food. Obviously it became a regular stop for me during the 3 months I worked in Pocatello. Out of all the other places in town Butter Burr's offers the best value, and best nostalgia for those missing family on business trips.

I like Butterburrs because they are consistant. Matter of fact when we have company at work we bring them here for lunch. The SST 7 hour rump roast is the best but I suggest getting the soup and treat to go. If you eat the soup you won't have room to finish the 2 scoops of potatos and open faced rump roast sandwich. Staff is polite, efficient and they actually have a sense of humor. Can't be beat for taste and value.

Everything tastes like diner food, and that's not really a compliment. Everything either has too much or not enough salt. THERE ARE OTHER SEASONINGS! Also, have you seen the pictures people have taken of their orders? They. look. awful.

I should say I have only eaten here once. I don't eat meat and for lunch I had about one option, a friend grilled cheese (yes, the whole thing was fried). If you are looking for family friendly, meat and potatoes, heart attack waiting to happen, kids everwhere, church crowd (no alcohol), this is the place for you. I don't mean for this review to sound so negative. Sometimes this is the kind of place I want to go to (ok, not the place I want to go to, but I get it...i mean, it is called butter burrs for goodness sake, what was I expecting?). I hear the breakfast is good and the pies looked good in the pie case.

Best cinnamon rolls (twists) I've ever had. I wish there was one in Cali. Worth a stop just for those, that is the main draw here!

  • Alyson M.

The quiche was gross. Undercooked and lukewarm. The waitress gave me water with no ice. Overall I was not impressed. The only redeeming factor and the reason I gave two stars was because of the cinnamon twist.

Jan was awesome and so were the fresh cinnamon rolls - Yum-fricking-ee! We chose our breakfast based on yelp. Love it as I didn't have a clue where to eat as we were 800 miles from home. Once again - very thankful for yelp and yelpers. Prices were reasonable - especially with the amount of food you get. Service was friendly and responsive. Food was delicious and fresh - what more can you ask for?

Some of the worst food...EVER. They haven't cleaned the flat top or changed the deep fryer oil in decades. Everything is rancid. You can't make up for poor quality with huge portions. I had a piece of pie and it was old and stale. And what is with the potatoes? I've never seen liquid mashed potatoes before. I thought they put the soup on my plate by accident. Staff is nice, but even a great waitress can't make up for bad food. Really, Poky....is this the best we can do?

Butterburrs is all about their fantastic bread dough recipe. The use it to create delicious breadsticks, sandwiches, and cinnamon (and other flavor) twists. I'd recommend any bread item that is made in the restaurant. Outside of the bread items, the food can be hit or miss. I'm personally not a big fan of their breakfast items, which I find to be under-seasoned and lacking in butter flavor. They do have a nice Italian sausage, and sticking to items with this ingredient keeps from having a bland breakfast dish brought to your table. We particularly enjoy the SST, which is a soup, half sandwich, and "treat" combo available all day. Get the sandwich on a "butterbun", any soup, and cinnamon twist, and you're all set. Service is typically quick and friendly, and the restaurant is very casual. I'd say it was great for kids, but I have to add the caveat that there are no diaper changing facilities in either restaurant. For a place that recently remodeled their restrooms and always has several babies in attendance, this is completely unforgivable! I'd have gone with 4 stars if it hadn't have been for this issue.
