I eat here on a regular basis. The bright decor is fun and I have never had to wait a long time to be seated. They have an extensive menu with great lunch prices and specials. Excellent happy hour and great deals on drinks as well. On your birthday you get free dessert tastes like heaven. The staff is knowledgeable about food allergies and always willing to ask the cook if you have questions they don't know. My only complaint is that servers seem a bit inexperienced and a little sluggish and sometimes mildly unfriendly. They DO have a few excellent, cheery, sing song people that you hope to get, but sometimes you get the person who seems to have forgotten how to smile.

Great food and nice atmosphere. One thing that bugged me was that you have to pay for extra chips and salsa. I was not alone in feeling like this was weird. Every other Mexican restaurant I've been to has bottomless chips and salsa. That's one of the perks of going to Mexican restaurants.

I'm surprised by the number of reviews complaining of poor service. I haven't experienced such problems over the last 10+ years of frequenting there. Granted during some of that time they were a food truck, and then another restaurant I can't remember the name of. Not sure of how the owners or management might have changed over the years, but what keeps me coming back is there Carne Asada Burrito. It is "Mission Style" in that they are filled with rice and beans, and then instead of tin foil it is on a plate and smothered with guacamole, sour cream, tomatoes, lettuce, and cilantro. It is pretty big, so go hungry.

At first glance this restaurant looks nice. We had reservations came in got our drink orders took about thirty minutes to get them!!! The drink were okay not the best... took another 30 minutes to order the food and about an hour wait for the food which I didn't have to enjoy because I left due to horrible customer service. Worst part was the staff didn't realize what they did wrong or did they attempt to better the situation. This restaurant deserves no star! Go to Casa Lopez in Moscow way better!

Horrible service. The waitress was really rude and seemed annoyed at our very presence. She seemed annoyed when I asked her if they had any tacos that were fried and tried to give me a look like I was really stupid. The waitresses were not only rude to the customers but were also rude to the bus boys and talked down to them. The food was mediocre at best. Way to much seasoning on the ground beef for the tacos. My brother describes the food just as "terrible."

The food tastes like it's been prepackaged and just warmed up. I don't know if the food is actually prepackaged, but hopefully that description gives you an idea of how it tastes. The chips placed on the table were so stale they tasted like unsalted cardboard, and the accompanying salsa was bland. The bartender also admitted that they just use premix for many of their drinks. I wish I would've asked if this is how they make their margaritas specifically, but I'm guessing it is. The presence of premixed drinks are a good litmus test for the quality of any alcohol-serving restaurant, as it has been confirmed by clinical research that premixed drinks are disgusting. I also don't like the way they claim to be a tapas bar, but I don't see any evidence that they do true tapas. I find La Casa Lopez to be a more authentic option in Moscow.

The only reason I'm giving more than 1 star is that the food was ok, although we don't eat gluten and my husband realized when he was almost done that it seems they gave him wheat tortillas instead of corn. He asked and they couldn't tell by looking which tortillas they were. Really?? The server just said I'll take care of it. It was too late but I guess she at least took it off the bill. Also they didn't seem to really know whether the spinach and mushroom enchiladas have gluten in them so just seemed to make it up. The drinks were terrible. Worst margarita and daquris we've ever had. Had like a quarter shot in it maybe. Both just tasted like syrup. This is your typical bad Mexican restaurant. Don't go here!!

Ate at Lamadrid this afternoon and was pleasantly surprised. Easily one of my better Mexican meals this far north of the border. Had the three crisp tacos (ground beef) with rice and beans. Very good with the taco shells being crisp and hot. They appeared to be made in the restaurant. The rice was very good. It was nice and moist. Not the dried out stuff I'm use to getting. Refried beans were also good. They were a little runnier than I like, but did not distract from their appeal. I usually prefer going to Taco Time or Taco Bell instead of these northern "Mexican" restaurants. This was the exception. Only reason I only gave it three stars was because the beer was not nearly cold enough.

Over the years in Moscow, we got to be serious regulars at LaMadrid, like first-name-basis with Annette and a couple of the servers regulars. We never had a bad meal (there have been one or two servers who could've used more experience or were maybe having a bad night). And let me tell you, now that I've tried the first Mexican place in our new town in Virginia, I am PINING for Arturo's cooking! I miss all the salsas, Taco Tuesday (you cannot beat the lengua tacos), the giant tortas - really, just about everything. Are you sure you guys can't ship your chile verde burrito cross-country? We miss you!

I wish I could give this place no stars. I went in yesterday with my family for my cousin's graduation, we had reservations and they still took 45 minutes to get our order. There was also another big party for a graduation seated next to us. Our orders were taken first and yet after about an hour and a half only the food of the second party came out. We still patiently waited for another 30 minutes and they still hadn't brought any of our food out. I understand restaurants get busy and when you have two big parties it can be hard but still this place didn't event bother to check up on our table while we were waiting for our food PLUS what kind of resturant can't handle having two big parties. It's like this place doesn't know how to properly run a business, pretty sure the only way it continues to be an establishment is because there aren't many restaurants around this area. (This kind of place would not survive in a bigger city with their "customer service") Anyways even when we left all they could say was "good luck finding another place during graduation night." SUPER CLASSY Just shows how unprofessional this sad excuse for a restaurant is. Had to go to the Pizza Hut across the street which took less than 30 minutes to deliver food saving our day with customer service, clearly something Lamadrid does not have. Literally NONEXISTENT.

There is a real good reason for why this dump of a restaurant has such a low review. I can't speak for the actual food because I didn't stay here long enough to try it. Even though my family and I waited around for about 2 hours and never got our food. Granted we had a large party which we made reservations for and yet the staff was ill prepared to serve us efficiently. There was another large party who mind you had arrived after we did but somehow managed to get they're order before us? The staff was rude and unapologetic when we asked why our order wasn't out. Nobody offered a well deserved and simple apology but rather resorted to bidding us good luck in finding another restaurant to serve us on graduation weekend. Are they for real!!!! I live in LA were restaurants are truly crowded and busy and never had an experience like I did in this pathetic excuse for an establishment. Get over yourselves...staff here is only equipped for arranging tables and chairs so don't expect anything beyond that. Good luck!!!

This place sucks. Took half an hour JUST to get drinks and AN HOUR to place our order. We complained and they didn't seem to want to comply to our needs. When we said we were fine with just paying for our drinks and leaving they STILL didn't seem fazed and held the door open for us on the way out. This place deserves no stars.

Three words. Steak Fajita Nachos. I've always gotten good service and great food from this place. After a movie I like to take the money I saved on not buying concessions walk across the hall from the theater and get a nice casual sit down meal.

This place is excellent! I've always had equally incredible food and service. I like that there is a separate bar! It's nice to be able to get away from families with loud children. The decor is modern which is also great.

I went to La Madrid a few times after it opened and I must say I wasn't impressed. It is fairly pricey, the service wasn't very attentive, and the food wasn't all that great. It wasn't awful, but for what you pay I would expect better. Although it won't be my first choice, it is also not a place I will all out avoid going to.

I'm surprised to read the negative reviews on here. LaMadrid is by far the best Mexican food on the Palouse. The owners ran a food truck for years, and then transitioned into restaurant owners. I admit that the service can be hit or miss, unless one of the owners is around, but the food is excellent and the daily specials make for some good, cheap eats. Definitely worth your time to visit when in Moscow.

To start with, the positive the food was pretty good and the margaritas. But the service was nothing to talk about and it took 1 hour and 20 mins to get our food. On top of that there was a hair in one of our burritos and the order was brought out incorrectly three times. Just plan 3 hours to eat dinner if you plan to eat here.

We love Lamadrid! My husband and I go for lunch once or twice a month and they have incredible $5/$6 specials. Why eat at McDonalds when you can spend the same amount and get fresh, hot, delicious food that was made just for you? We are also big fans of Taco Tuesday ($1.50 street tacos in about half a dozen flavors - al pastor is our favorite. It's a flavorful mix of marinated pork and pineapple. So good!) Sundays are also great for families, with kids meals priced at only $2. When they first opened, their service was a bit spotty, but over the past several months it's become consistently good. I'm already salivating thinking about my next meal there. Yum!

I was really hoping this place would rock my socks off. Really, really hoping. My prayers for a second, hopefully more authentic and incredibly tasty Mexican restaurant in Moscow will remain unanswered. It's fine. It's not bad, but it's just like every other Azteca in the US. If you want decent Mexican-American food, head on over. It's sure to be the least crowded option in Moscow. Sigh.

I went in to see if I could catch a game at the bar and have some cerveza. Wasn't too busy and the bar was separate from the dining room so the waitress had to bounce back and forth. I decided to grab a bite to eat and was completely surprised at how good it was! I think thye had a burrito special that day, which is what I got and it was delicious. I had a ton of food leftover. Service was friendly and promt. I will definitely go back for seconds!

Awful. Service was horrible. We were not asked if we would like drinks we were not told about specials. Wife's meat was dry and old tasting full of fat We have given this place enough chances.

I've owed Arturo and Annette this review for a long time... Sorry it's taken so long!! LaMadrid is THE BEST Mexican food in town. Period. Take it from a Mexican... :) I have a few dishes that I use to judge Mexican restaurant quality. First and foremost is the salsa that is brought to the table as a freebie. Sounds a little shallow but hey, if a Mexican restaurant can't nail this most basic of sauces, I usually don't return. LaMadrid doesn't just nail their basic red salsa, but another three as well! The basic red is a blend of onions, garlic, peppers, cabbage, and tomatoes (plus cilantro, etc.), which sounded weird to me at first (because of the cabbage), but immediately caught my attention due to its sheer flavor! It is amazingly good, and the cabbage adds a sweeter dimension to the salsa to counter the acid from the tomatoes. They don't automatically bring their other salsas, but if you ask for them they will. The first (my favorite!) is the salsa borracho (drunken salsa), which I discovered when I asked for a hotter salsa (I like it hot!). This simple, smokey salsa of jalapenos, fire roasted tomatoes and garlic is the best salsa to add to their already amazing tacos! Their salsa roja is also very good, using a blend of dried sweet-hot New Mexican (or possibly guajillo) chilies that have been re-hydrated and blended with garlic and tomato. This is a thicker salsa with a full sweet-tart taste that packs a little more of a punch than their house salsa. I've found that this salsa goes very well with their steak dishes (and an ice-cold Dos Equis). Lastly, their salsa verde offers a tart and slightly cooler salsa (made with tomatillo, onion, jalapeno, and cilantro) that goes beautifully with their fish and chicken tacos. This is my wife's favorite salsa :) So, Taco Tuesday... When you can't figure out what the heck to cook and you seem otherwise completely discouraged and lost in your kitchen on a Tuesday night, it's probably because you know you need to go to Taco Tuesday at LaMadrid for $1.50 tacos. The tacos here are simple, clean, and flavorful. Many other restaurants like to sauce the heck out of a taco, leaving it greasy and overfilled to the point it is falling apart in your hands. This phenomenon has generally led me to not order tacos at Mexican restaurants. Oscar dresses the perfectly spiced and cooked meats with cabbage, onion, radish, and cilantro, with only a lime wedge to squeeze over it (obviously you can add salsa). Since trying tacos this way, I've not missed-nor have I gone back to- greasy, cheesy, lettucey (and typically melty) tacos. The current favorite of both my wife and me is the lengua (tongue) taco. The meat is tender, slightly spicy and... simply... beautiful. My other favorites are the salsa verde burrito, the carnitas verde, and the arroz con pollo. Arroz con pollo is one of the other dishes I judge Mexican restaurants on. The recipes for this dish is as varied as the number of restaurants themselves, but LaMadrid offers a slightly saucier version of what I'm used to. I thought this would bug me at first but found that I really liked it. They are a little lighter on the cheese than some other places (which is just fine with me!) keeping it from becoming matted, and it has perfectly cooked peppers, onions, and mushrooms (along with rice and chicken, obviously!). A lovely dish! Beer prices are on par with the rest of Moscow and they do have happy-hour pricing. Service can be iffy every once in a while, but look for Annette and she will get you squared away. Guaranteed. The server I have had issues with in the past has gotten her stuff together recently and, honestly, I realize everyone has an off day. Also, having worked retail, I understand that when a restaurant gets really busy service will slow down. They keep your beer, salsa and chips coming, so it's all good! Additionally, I don't hold one server's actions (or the fact that a manager inadvertently failed to schedule appropriately) against the restaurant. I love this restaurant! Annette and Oscar have done a fantastic job of building a rapport with their customers, often greeting them by name. The food is great and 8.5 times out of 10 the service is great, too.

This place is pretty great! I grew up in Seattle, so I'm pretty spoiled when it comes to eating. But, I love their food. I've gotten the garlic shrimp dish and it is AMAZING! The dish smells great, looks good and is good for you. I normally and not a big fan of chile verde but got it to share with someone else. The dish was pretty good and the perfect combination of being stew or curry like. Another time I got the carne asada. Pretty much a staple at Mexican restaurants and its expected to be good. This is where part of the one start comes off. The steak was pretty dry, close to unpalatable. The staff is new at this. Another reason its not 5 stars. It is not uncommon to ask a couple times for something, like another dish of salsa or a refill. However, they are pretty good at keeping water filled. They have a good heart, and I have never waited too long for my food. DID I MENTION THE SALSA?? Its fantastic. I love salsa, and there's is awesome. Its a red sauce and there's also cabbage in it. I think its really unique and I always get seconds of it. Pricing. I would never say they are overpriced. In fact I think there a least a dollar less than most Mexican restaurants. There definitely cheaper than the places in Pullman.

Had a great fajita and chicken alambre! Plenty of great food. The chicken tortilla soup had fresh avocado chunks in it too!

I cannot say enough how much I love this place. My girlfriends and I go here regularly for lunch and dinner. The food is always outstanding, the service is usually good (and when it's not, it's a stark exception, not the rule) and it's great to see Annette, the owner, out and about during meals. I always get the side salad option with the house dressing instead of beans and rice - and it's a delicious, real salad, with cucumber, red onion, lettuce and more, not just a couple limp pieces of romaine with bottled dressing smothering it. Took my mother here for Mother's Day, and she's still raving about the mole. Personally, I love the lunch specials, the taco menu (try the lengua taco, it's actually quite good, and the fish tacos are awesome), faijtas, chicken alambre, ceviche, the queso dip ... need I go on? I'm ready for lunch. Like now. Drink menu is also good, ask about off-menu items, like the Paloma, my personal go-to. Hands down, Lamadrid has become my favorite Mexican restaurant ... anywhere.

Don't get me wrong, the food itself is quite good for the area. Some of the best I've had in the area but really nothing too spectacular. The main issue is the service. They are quick to get you in, but they will let you sit there with no refills, no take out boxes, and no check. You almost have to go up and serve yourself drinks after the food comes. This has happened TWICE with different servers and on different days when it was not busy. If you do go, bring CASH so you don't have to wait on them to run a card, or can just leave some cash on the table and leave like we've had to every time. I don't like waiting 40 minutes for my check. I liked the food but the horrific service will keep me from going back anytime soon.

Food was average but service was friendly and faster than I expected after reading reviews. Some plates were pretty food lean for the price, while some were ample . Ask before ordering. Would try again.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
