This was my first time eating at Smashburger (I met my wife there for lunch). The burger was pretty tasty, but the French fries were way too greasy. When the manager came by and asked how the food was I told him the burger was good and pointed out the greasy fries. The little 5 oz tray had literally a tablespoon of oil at the bottom as I let them drain in order to eat the ones that weren't too greasy. He indicated that they were way too greasy, but that was about it. not sure if I'll make the trip to go back there again. I added a picture on my profile to show the amount of oil at the bottom of the tray

It was okay. My wife thought it was good, but, mostly because we only paid half price for one of the burgers. I have to agree with a couple other 3 stars or less reviews. The 4 & 5 star reviews are crazy (imo). The burger was a tad bit salty and the fries were greasy. They dress their hamburger buns with a lot of butter and I'm not a fan of that either (It's really brushed on heavily). Overall, it was a better burger than Carl's or McDonald's, but those are big fast food joints. $7 does not include a drink or fries. For price comparison, 5 guys burgers lack flavor and seem to always be messy, but, I would actually prefer 5 guys over Smash and that's truly not saying much. If you want a good burger with no GMOs try Wingers. Yup, Wingers makes a better burger than even Red Robin. If you like spending $7 for a burger and the other fast food places don't do it for you then, maybe go to Smash. At least they cook it fresh and not by microwave. I'm not sure a coupon would be worth a trip back.

Tasty juicy burger. Can't go wrong. #1 burger in town for me.

Best burgers I've had in the Treasure Valley. I'm from So Cal and I never really cared for In'N'Out like most people do. I love all the choices and that they serve wine and beer too.

My first time eating here I get a burger, nothing special really. However they didn't remove the paper that was originally on the raw meat patty. So I get a mouthful of disgusting burnt paper on my burger. They made me a new burger ( minus the paper) however I think my sandwich should've been on the house. Go to 5 Guys, it's right down the road.

I only ordered a grilled cheese with mushrooms and swiss, but it was truly magical and delicious. My dining partner from Chicago, ordered the Chicago Hot Dog and swore it was better than any dog she has gotten in Chicago, it even had the celery seed. The regular fries were rosemary and salty goodness. We both paid less than $10. If I lived closer, I would be here often.

Best Burger is always sort of a big opinion. Most are pretty close to same. For me: 1. Smashburger 2. Fuddruckers 3. Five guys But fries are all over the place in quality and taste. By far best fries. 1. Smashburger 2. Mcdonalds 3. Five guys 4. Fuddruckers but won't eat um

Don't let the name fool you, this place is way more than just burgers (although the burgers are delish)! We came here for a Yelp event and I think we ended up sampling the whole menu. Flavor-filled chicken, great fry selection, and the veggie frites are the best I have ever had! Stop in for a great meal. :-)

They are spend heavy but GREAT burgers and fires. Try the haystack fries, those are good. They make malts too, very good on that.

I absolutely love Smash Burger. The bronco burger is amazing! Fries are good, and so are the shakes.

Good little burger chain. My wife likes them more than I do, but the food is solid and passable and occasionally craveable. The rosemary fries or sweet potato fries are both excellent, but are quite greasy and are potentially hazardous to the rest of your day if you consume many of them. Same with the onion straws. The burgers are served pretty dry with a thick, eggy bun, so I would always recommend getting extra sauce of whatever it is you order. We get the barbecue burger most often. Very good, quality meat, quality cheese, etc.

Ate a Bronco Burger here the other day and it was the best damn burger and fries I've had in a long time. Even got a bonus burger out of the deal because they got my order wrong and they immediately got right on it to make it right. Great customer service and food. Two thumbs up.

Food was subpar. I wasn't blown away by the black bean burger, fries or shake. The real problem is, I'm pretty sure that I got food poisoning after eating the food. Can't guarantee it, but I felt sick soon after eating it. I definitely won't be going back, because I'm not sure if I will get sick or not.

It was no where near as good as we were expecting. It was really cool that we could order ahead of time to save time. However, the fries were tasteless, the milk shakes were so thin, they treated like chocolate milk. ..with a root beer after taste. ...was very odd. I posted the bbq bacon chicken burger. Super greasy. Not to mention the order was Ali wrong. I just wanted bbq sauce, bacon and crispy chicken. I got bbq sauce, pickles, cheese, unions and grilled chicken. I think we will go to five guys next time.

This place is always clean, fast, and consistently good. I love the fry sauce and glad to see that they brought it back. The mushroom burger is to die for. They have great kid's meals and are always so kind to our whole family. We are regulars here. Prices are not too bad either.

I'm always good for a burger and I have had some good ones and some pretty bad ones. I even managed several " burger places " so I know a fresh burger when I bite into one. My fav location for a burger is a drive from where we live and the are closed on Sunday's, so we decided to try this location. We visited the Franklin location when they first opened and it was okay so I was hesitant about going back. Before pilling the " Griswolds" into the CRV, I checked the Smashburger menu online. First plus is that their website works and it's easy to follow. There are no tricks or misdirections. A second plus is that for my wife and daughter there is a customizable section and lastly they have kids meals. So, we got into the CRV and went down the road to their Meridian location. No, we didn't lose Grandma on the way nor did we encounter hot models on the road, but we did encounter an empty Smashburger at 5pm on a Sunday. Sometimes, an empty restaurant is a kiss of death, but we were determined to have a fresh burger on a Sunday, and not even an unarmed security guard who resembles John Candy would stop us. The staff is very friendly and put with a lot of our questioning. Soon after our inquisition of questions, the crowds came. We were relieved just like that time when checked out of the Royal Imperial Windsor hot. I ordered the Bronco, the girls customized their burgers and my son ordered a kids meal. We ordered sides of sweet potatoes and onion shreds. ( there's a name for them but my " Rusty beret " must be affecting my mental capabilities. ). The girls ordered their burgers with spicy chipotle sauce and they assumed that the sauce on the side with the onion shreds was extra spicy chipotle so they added it to their burgers. That sauce was not spicy chipotle but rather Smash's " Pedal " sauce. That comes complimentary with the side of onions. The pedal sauce was not to their liking and they didn't figure it out. For me it wasn't bad but not my thing. I deduced that it had horseradish. Well come back to later after seeing Big Ben and Parliament. Onto the burgers, they were hot, fresh, not frozen and juicy. Wow. Awesomeness. See the pictures. My only knock down was the green tomatoes used, otherwise it was perfect burger paradise. The Bronco has Bleu cheese, buffalo sauce bacon, lettuce and tomatoes on a egg bun. The girls had chipotle bun with peeper jack cheese and the spicy chipotle sauce. The sweet potato fries are good but I erred like Clark at the French Bistro and I should have ordered the Smashfries! Fries tossed with Olive Oil with Garlic and Rosemary. I'll be the pig in the poke, Oink Oink next time and get the Smashfries!! The Milkshakes are like visiting WalleyWorld and you are the only ones there. Highly Recommended. Plenty of flavors to choose from. So back to the Pedal sauce. I asked one of the employees about the spicy chipotle sauce and the shift manager came by and explained all the saucy details. The spicy chipotle does not have horseradish and does not come served on the side but rather on the burger itself. The sauce with the onion shreds( Haystack ) does have some horseradish. The staff was very polite, accommodating, and knowledgable. Can't go wrong with Smashburger. Plenty of options and the burgers are fresh and tasty. Lastly, the prices are very reasonable. Whether you are on vacation or looking to get out of a rut take a drive and visit your local Smashburger, it's a winner!

The burgers here are fantastic. Very flavorful and cooked perfectly. The toppings really compliment the burger. The only thing that was subpar...the french fries were not good. The burger is so good you could forget the fries.

I guess it's called Smashburger cause they press the burger patties while cooking on the grill. I had the bacon cheese burger and it was a juicy with a lot of flavor. They have real ice cream shakes. The smash fries are good with the rosemary taste, but a little too salty for my taste.

Smashburger has SUCH good, juicy burgers! So good, in fact, that I may never get to try their chicken. I mean, why order chicken when the burger so clearly rocks!? I was a little apprehensive ordering my first burger with the multi-grain bun, but it was soft, fresh, and delicious! Okay, so I'm eating a huge burger with fried sides and soda... at least I can make one little healthy choice. :) Everything came out exactly as ordered. Even when the restaurant was busy on a Saturday at lunchtime, our food came out faster than we expected. The french fries are on the thin side, and were cooked nicely both times we ordered them. Dad's choice, the haystack onions, were much better than I expected. They were very thin, delicately breaded onion "rings". Hot & tasty. Based on their success with sides, I plan to try the veggie frites (with fried asparagus, green beans, and carrot sticks) and the sweet potato fries on future visits. The root beer float, as you can see in one of the photos I took, was served with scooped vanilla ice cream in a frosty glass accompanied by a bottle of root beer. Very nice! As a big soda drinker, I appreciate the soda fountain available for customers to refill drinks. I also liked the 'to go' cup so I could take some soda on the road. One thing that brings Smashburger up a notch from Five Guys and other "burger" spots is that the staff is so attentive. Despite the counter service, employees were regularly coming around to make sure everyone had everything they needed.

I ate a Smash Burger a couple years back and don't remember thinking it was that great. Typically I avoid chain restaurants, but my buddy suggested it after Cars and Coffee on Saturday as a close place to grab a bite. I ordered a build your own burger, with bacon, mushrooms and sharp cheddar. It was delicious! A little on the greasy side, but very juicy and tasty! Shoestring fries are always generic, and these are no exception, but overall my food was yummy and at $11 for a burger, fries, and a soda, a good value for a Saturday lunch!

As far as fast food type burgers go this place was excellent. It gets good reviews for a tasty burger and a tasty burger it was! That being said, the reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because in the back of my mind I couldn't help thinking that for the money I would have been happier with a burger from Red Robin for the same price. The difference maker for me would be if they included fries with the burger, saving me two bucks, I would have felt like I got a better overall deal, therefore making it a fantastic bargain for great food. Still, if you haven't tried it, I think it's worth stopping by.

Meh. I don't agree that smashing the ball of beef makes a juicier burger, mine of always been crispy and no meat juices. I won't return.

The burgers were great and the fries were almost good enough to be eaten without a dipping sauce (high praise from me) but it's not the greatest value if you're just in the mood for a basic cheeseburger. There are a lot of other options to craft a more unique burger. They did serve us very quickly so if you want a quick, delicious burger and don't mind spending extra for more flavor and less grease than a fast food place, Smashburger fits the bill. I do wish they had a honey mustard. All the sauces they have to choose from, and my favorite is woefully absent.

Had lunch there today with my wife; we had a $12 Groupon. I had the traditional Smashburger, regular size, and my wife had the swiss & mushroom Jr. burger. I had "smash fries" and she had the sweet potato fries. Both of the burgers were cooked medium, on request...the default is medium well, which is not the way to get a burger. We had sodas to drink; beer selection was not particularly good. Overall: Excellent burger. Great meat flavor, seasoned well, good proportion of topping/vegetables. Really good. Wife's had good flavor as well. We also both enjoyed the fries, both sweet potato and regular. The rosemary and garlic is a nice touch; they were fresh and tasty. I would've preferred more salt, but that was easy to add at the table. I also would've toasted the egg bun a little more so it held up better, but it was still fine. What was good: Burger quality. Fries were good, too, but not blow-you-away great. Not-so-good: Beer selection, and price. All-in, it would've been a bit over $20 for the two of us...for burgers, fries, and sodas! That's just a little too high a price point for me. I'll be back, but only with a coupon. The quality is really there, but it's just too pricey.

I don't quite understand the hype, but I haven't eaten at many burger places in the Boise area. Stopped by Smash Burger based on the reviews. Our family ordered a burger with no bun, hot dog, plain fries, garlic fries, salad, and plain cheeseburger. The burger tasted fantastic. I think it is the seasoning or the high quality meat. However, the next day, we all felt sick to our stomachs, and we didn't over-eat. Prices were a bit steep, ordering was a bit confusing, nutritional information is lax, and staff was a bit all over the place. Two gals came in from smoke break, didn't wash their hands, and took the order for the cook who was working the register while they were on brake. If service was better, it wouldn't help this review, as we simply didn't feel good the next day. I would return to Smash Burger if a friend insisted, but not sure what I would get. I've had much worse, but not in Meridian. I've experienced better.

I have to say that Smash Burger is one of the best burgers in town! When I was going through a sickness it was one of the few foods I craved and could eat. The burgers are juicy and super tasty. The smash fries and onion straws set it a part from five guys.

Omg so good. Best burger in town. Kinda pricy though. Would have given 5 stars if the lady at the front got our correct order

I had a burger ($6.99), fries ($1.99) and a side salad ($2.99). The food was good. Do the math - that's $12 for a lunch without a drink at a fast food counter (no wait staff). I think Yelp listing it as $$ is understated. I'd show it as $$$ with no table cloths, silverware, or china! I tried their website for a survey. It insisted on me rating a drink I didn't buy and environment I didn't use (it was to go order) - don't waste your time with the survey! I know, with out 50% off or more coupon/promo, I won't eat their food again.

Nothing special or memorable. Not a very good value for the actual quality of the burgers. I don't get the loyal following this place has. I've eaten there twice to be fair and it was mediocre at best.

This is hands down the best place in the city for a burger. Yes, I said it. Five Guys can't even hold a candle to Smashburger. Five Guy's uses little more than Kraft singles on their burgers, whereas Smashburger uses REAL cheese. The menu here is varied and has all sorts of clever ideas, such as a burger all ready adorned with potato chips. My latest trip there was greeted with a Bronco Burger, a bleu cheese burger with Frank's Red Hot Sauce. I was appreciative of both the clever name and fantastic flavors. The fries are equally impressive. Their sweet potato fries set a high standard for fries in this city and at a great price. The seasonings really help to draw out the natural flavor of the potato. This is my favorite place in Boise to get a burger.

Solid, semi-fast food with good beer and great, old-school milkshakes. Hard to beat when you have that nouveau diner hankering.

Ok, here is the deal. I just cannot give a franchise five stars. For a franchise the burgers here are great. WAY better than other fancy burger franchises. I have not had every burger yet but, so far have not been let down yet. It is a little pricey for a burger but worth it.

For a fast food place this place rocks. This is no McD, Wendys or BK, but a more casual sit down and relax slightly more expensive. I'm a huge fan of the Baja Grilled Smash Chicken and the Smashfries.

  • Whitney S.

My Classic Smashburger was good, and I don't like burgers unless I'm ravished! But the kicker for me was location and the fries (both times were cold). Compared to Five Guys, it's a go as far as the burger is concerned, but it definitely didn't blow my socks off.

This has got to be the best burger I have ever eaten--bar none! The flavor of the beef was delicious and the seasoning just perfect. We tried the swiss and mushroom burger and it needed nothing else on it--no ketchup or mustard. It was really moist also. The fries were good also. The large size burger is enough for two people to share. There are a lot of other choices on the menu as well, like salads, chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, chili, and even a black bean burger, which would be fun to try!

All I have to say is...Sweet Potato SmashFries. I can die now.

  • Shelly C.

Not impressed at all. The Spicy Baja burger was on the very rare side as well as my companions. The regular fries tasted like rosemary. Had I wanted the rosemary and olive oil fries I would have ordered them. The iced tea tasted like one tea bag per 3 gallons of water tea. Had it been one just one item that wasn't satisifactory I could have lived with that but all 3 is not acceptable. Won't go back.
