Love the atmosphere. Wait staff is great. I appreciate that they save the large booth for six plus groups. Food was delicious. Can't wait to go back again.

It had been a long time since had been here...like visiting a long lost friend. ..awhhhh! Staff was very friendly and down right gushing with apologies that the "inside" was full and we could eat in the covered outside dining if we'd like. So we ventured out. Cody our waiter was attentive and quick to give suggestions/opinions so the Pteradactyl wings, Rueben sandwich & Steak salad were ordered and VERY quickly brought out. Food was hot & pretty darn good! My husband exclaimed the corned beef wasn't "screwed up" (which is his way of saying it's good). Wings (not so spicy, kinda sweet, savory) were served with a wash cloth (any clue here?!) and were impressive to see. Speaking of impressive, the bread pudding wasn't the best I've had but was pretty good with enough to share and a cup of caramel sauce! We'll be back!

We finally tried Kahootz after several rave reviews and I have mixed feelings about it. The food was delicious but I was not a fan of the drink situation and the service was SLOW. I did not feel that our experience was worth the $86 + tip tab. When we arrived around 6 there was only outside seating available and it was too HOT. We oped to sit at the small bar and order a drink while we waited for a table. They didn't have a large selection so I ordered a grey goose with 7up and sprite. I thought it was very small and weak for $8.50. We started with an appetizer of chips, queso & salsa. I'm pretty sure I could eat the queso everyday! I ordered a side salad with ranch and a baked potato as my meal. The potato was cooked to perfection. My husband had the Garage Grinder and it was very good and flavorful. We did not order dessert but next time I have to try the bread pudding... Someone in the room ordered it and the caramel smelled yummy. Our server was very nice and did a great job but I believe she was the only server. We waited a loooong time for food and drink refills. They were also sold out of prime rib by the time we ordered so go early if that's what you're looking for.

Preface: Not only am I a diehard foodie I've worked as a manager in the food and beverage industry in CA for over 15 years including serving as a GM for a fine dining waterfront restaurant. So my views may be skewed a little and my expectations high. That being said, Kahootz really surprised me. As you walk in it has the feel of a bar/pizza house but don't let that fool you. The service was friendly and on point. The food was great with great portion selections. My steak was cooked a perfect medium rare and had a great flavor. A touch over seasoned but I won't hold that against them. Great beer selection also offering 44 taps of primarily high quality craft beer. A reasonable wine menu for the size of the restaurant as well. I'd definitely recommend Kahootz to anyone dining in the area.

Pros: Great steak, big chunks of meat on the Ruben and excellent service (5 refills). Cons: Little spendy with not much elbow room and the chicken was little done. Overall great presentation and worth another visit since it is truly a steak ale house.

Wonderful food! I had the 10pz steak cooked to perfection with bacon and Gorgonzola topping. It came with asparagus that was to die for and red potatoes. The service was great. We also had the chocolate mousse dessert. That was amazing! Definitely go try this place and I will be back! :)

Kahootz is one of my favorite places in town. Been coming here for years! ... But had to post this evening in regards to the hamburger. The beer was great, the salad was wonderful, the service was fantastic as usual, but the hamburger tasted like frozen hockey puck food service garbage. Raise the price by a buck or two if you have to, but for the love of God use fresh ground beef for your burger. Hell, I wouldn't hold it against you if you called it over to Main Street and brought it in a bag, but do SOMETHING!

This will be my first and only time using Yelp. It's a great service but as a food service worker I don't enjoy it, but I have no problem exploting it. One of the owners of Kahootz (Joe Anderson) is a bigot! He's made several racial charged comments to me as a former employee and has a Strong hatred of handicapped persons. He's even went so far as to tell me "they should go to the park, this isn't a petting zoo." I just wanted the little town of Meridian to know who was cooking their steaks.

We came to the area for something else. We decided here looked like a good second choice. (thanks yelp) From now on this would be my first choice. There was not one thing that made this experience anything less than a 7 star. If you want beer options this is the perfect place. At a glance they had at least 35 on tap. The row of taps is impressive. We will return many times. Don't let the size of this place fool you.

It's an ok place. Most of the tables are tall, which can be weird and hard to capture your napkin when it falls off your lap. The staff is super friendly and helpful.. The beer options are ok, but you need to like ales, and heavy porters... meh. The wine options aren't bad. The food... sigh. We started with the pterodactyl wings - 5 come on the plate and they are huge. Not really super shareable. We all went with the steak sandwich - and i was very unimpressed. It was cooked to the point of no return and the result was meh. The description made it sound amazing... I was lucky to finish the meal. I can't say i'd go back, i can't say i'd suggest anyone else go there. It might be the place for you, but it won't be the place for me.

BEST FISH TACOS IN THE TREASURE VALLEY. Honest! I've tried fish tacos just about everywhere and these are outstanding. My friend had the French dip sandwich, which she also enjoyed very much, lots of beef. The waitstaff was terrific on a busy Thursday lunch rush. Can't wait to go back and try more. Really good prices on the food, but thought the prices too high on the alcohol.

Visiting from CA where we dine in 5 star restaurants. We wanted steak so decided to dismiss the "not so good" reviews and try it. Don't let the appearance of the building fool you. WE ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!! Atmosphere was great, waitresses were cute & friendly and above all, the food was amazingly delicious!!! We ordered chorizo stuffed mini bell peppers (stuffed with so much meat) for an appetizer, the Ribeye (perfectly cooked, not too much fat, and SO tender) with "real, thick" bacon green beans (tasty) and Au-gratin potatoes (which were better than a 5 Star fine dining restaurant in CA) and of course the TO DIE FOR BREAD PUDDING!!! I could have eaten the whole one rather than the half. The alcohol was reasonably priced and there were a huge selection of good beers on tap. What topped our night off after an amazing dinner was that the waitress Justine (so cute and friendly) informed us that the owner was COMPING our ENTIRE MEAL & DRINKS because of it being their 13th anniversary!! Unbelievable!!! It's hard to even find a restaurant to comp a dessert these days. THANK-YOU KAHOOTZ and to the owner & Justine for making our last night in ID a memorable one. When we come back in summer to ID, you can bet we'll be back!!!

This place makes me want to move to Idaho. The food was incredible and the service was great! We unfortunately weren't very hungry so I just ordered a beer, some wings and we shared the bread pudding. But these weren't just wings; they were pterodactyl wings. They were MASSIVE! And oh-my-gawd so so so good. I would fly back just for those wings. But then we were handed the bread pudding. There were four of us and we shared a half-order and it was just the right amount of sugary awesomeness. The sizzling sound of caramel being poured over the skillet and the heavenly aroma it produced will stick with me for the rest of my life. Their beer selection is excellent and features plenty of local microbreweries which made the evening perfect. I've heard rumors their mud pie is equally as insane - I might have to try that too! I need to come back to try their other menu items, but the bread pudding will be a recurring theme for sure!

Get the wings! Seriously dinosaur-sized. The steak, red potatos, and asperagus are all amazing. It will be hard to go anywhere else when in town. My waiter named Cody was a stud and he's single and I suggest that the ladies ask for him when they come in.

This place was such a great find! Huge selection of beers on tap, good selection of wines, amazing steaks and seafood. They have a weekly special menu that changes each week. I've never been disappointed. My only complaint would be that I'm so full after dinner that I never have room for dessert and their bread pudding looks and smells amazing!! I'd consider going there just to try that! Service is wonderful. It is a small restaurant that fills up quickly. They have a nice patio outside that I'd like to try for happy hour sometime. Traffic is bad in that area right now with lots of road construction, but it doesn't seem to be hurting business at all.

Used to be a favorite! Not sure what happened tho. I guess new cook? One that doesn't know how to grill a decent steak. Also, don't go there hungry because you will wait at least 50 minutes or so for your food. I made that mistake couple of times. Pterodactyl wings are really yummy tho! Staff is so so. Guys in their 40s who r not in much of a hurry to do anything.

  • Mark B.

The Pterodactyl wings were really good. Because I wanted to pace myself I ordered the 8 oz sirloin special w/ rosemary potatoes and grilled asparagus for $13.95. The cut of meat was mediocre, but still worth the price. I'll come back next time I'm in town and order a better cut of meat. Staff is very friendly and attentive. Nice relaxed atmosphere. If I lived close, I would visit often.

  • Soleil F.

I adore Kahootz. There are a few things I always do when I visit: 1. Arrive hungry 2. Order the pterodactyl wings and a PDF pale ale straight away 3. Convince someone to split an entree with me (my favorite is the steak salad) in order to save room for 4. Dessert! Whichever you choose is sure to delight, especially the caramel apple almond bread pudding!

Visited this past Friday. The place was very busy which is a great sign. Even though it was busy, we were seated very quickly. The menu is small which is another great sign. The drinks are served in a little mason jars. If you are a thirsty non beer person, you'll need several refills. The selection of microbrews from the local area is one of the best. I ordered the steak sandwich. I was concerning about the horseradish sauce, but was told that it wouldn't knock my socks off but is what makes the sandwich. I was some what skeptical but when the sandwich arrived, the server was spot on. Note: I am not a fan of store bought horseradish. Matter of fact I hate it, but there version was flavorful and had a spice to it. If they bottled it, I would buy it. The girls each had a Hawaiian salad. Nothing specular but it comes with a homemade sweet onion dressing which is the star. great flavor. The desert menu may seem small but cannot be missed. Definitely save room for the bread pudding. You'll thank me later.

WHY does this place have such a high rating? Sure, the portions are huge, but what about the quality and service? The menu clearly stated "ask your server about our new cocktail menu". Always up for trying something new and delicious, I inquired. The response from the unsure waitress "ummm, we don't really HAVE a menu for it. We just rolled it out in January (umm, its JULY). We have a bloody mary mix and a margarita mix." Are you kidding me? Just throw SOMETHING together. Anything, really. I ended up ordering my old standby: Ketel and tonic. It arrived after little delay. The food was "meh". Ok, but nothing to write home about. The purple potato mash, which the waitress had no clue about, was inventive and tasty. The beef, not so much. Bland, tough and obscenely greasy. The restaurant certainly has a look going on. Lots of bits and bobs as decoration. I can see the Idaho appeal. The patio - no thanks. Will I go back? Nope.

Met some friends for dinner and had a great time. Bar service was a bit slow but otherwise everything was good. Great value for the money. Steak was excellently prepared and all enjoyed their food. Will definitely return.

Nic: Hey, guess what!? I really like this place! Han: That's about time you liked something. Lately it's been nothing but moan, moan, moan..... Nic: Pfff...well I moaned a bit today too, but in a good way. Their steak salad is great! Good portion of tender, flavorful and well seasoned meat, lovely greens, tomatoes, red peppers, mushrooms, a slice of crispy French bread and their raspberry vinaigrette...yum! Han: I'm surprised you even remembered what was on the salad, you practically inhaled that thing. I was going to tell you that they also have a sweet onion dressing, in case you were thinking about ordering another one . Nic: Well, I can't say I didn't contemplate it for a second or two......How was your Reuben sandwich? I noticed you left the fries on the plate. Han: Sandwich was good. Good bread, great corned beef and a really good homemade 1000 Island. Fries were meh. I really like all the different types of beers. Good food, good beer, good service, what more do you want? Nic: Good point. What more do I want? A second stomach so I can try their amazing desserts sometime! I keep wanting to try that hot caramel apple almond bread pudding! One of these days.....

The steak was a little tough but the flavor was so good it was a healthy offset. The bread pudding was amazing! Ive lived in Meridian for 22 years and i cant believe i never knew this was right up the street. Ill be back for steak and bread pudding for sure!!

Great waitress, attentive.Nice atmosphere. All the food wasn't very good. Cheese dip tastes like velveeta, fish tacos were NASTY! Tasted like the cooking oil and mushy that's about it. The chicken sandwich and steak sandwich were dry. Wouldn't go again, it's not cheap and isn't very good. I appreciate the manager contacting me, it does show he cares. Unfortunately, it doesn't change our opinion of the food (four of us).

Kahootz is a good little hang out. They have a nice selection of beers and the servers are super friendly. The food is typically very good. The atmosphere is more suited towards conversation rather than loud music and partying. If you are a d-bag who wears his hat backwards and thinks the sun sets his pants you won't like Kahootz.

We have been coming to this restaurant for over 12 years. The food quality, presentation and service is always great. The owner John is hands-on and it shows in his business. This is a must try.

Love this place. Love that it is somewhat close to our house. Great food, great service, great prices. They have small sirloin dinner which is all I need ~ for only $13. Yep a steak dinner for only $13. I ordered it the first time I went and haven't ever gotten anything else because it was so good. Everyone else I have been with has ordered different items and the appetizers and desserts have always been great.

We weren't planning on going here this Saturday evening but it has been on my list for awhile and we were in the area for another reason so BAM here we landed. Oh wow. Great atmosphere, great service immediately and throughout. Our server Jennifer was very attentive and friendly. Sure, it was kinda loud but it was a lively Saturday night and packed so expected. Hubs got one of the remaining 10 oz prime rib meals and it was excellent. I had the steak salad also excellent, took home about half of it and with dressing on the side it held up great for my Monday lunch. Some dear friends joined us and they ordered the bread pudding dessert. Oh my word. I had a couple bites and it is nirvana. I highly recommend getting the half serving as they did. It was more than enough, and you just gotta try it, preferably with more than just two people cuz it's a meal in itself. We can't wait to go back and try all the other things Kahootz has to offer. This place is a true gem! And I didn't even go into all the beers they have on tap...

Came here for the first time on a Thursday night thinking it wouldn't be very busy. Boy, was I wrong! It was 6:30 and the place was packed inside & out. My husband and I got the last table and water and menus came shortly after we were seated. The waitress was attentive and friendly. The menu is quite limited, but if you're in the mood for steaks, this is the place to go. My husband had the black and blue rib eye and I had the Jr New York steak. I ordered mine medium to medium well and it arrived with just a touch of pink. My husband's rib eye was a medium and it was pink throughout and cooked to perfection. The asparagus and roasted potatoes were a bit boring, but his mashed potatoes were delicious and creamy. Although we were stuffed, we had to try the bread pudding because of all the rave reviews and we were not disappointed. Absolute heaven. We had 2 beers that were great and a glass of wine and the total was $78 before the tip. Dinner took about 35 min to arrive, but well worth the wait and the waitress checked on us often. This is s great local steakhouse and I'm sure we'll be back again soon!

Stopped in for a late lunch on a recommendation of a friend and it turned out to be well worth the trip. Jan had the grinder steak sandwich and I had the club. Both were prepared very well and had a lot of flavor. Portions were more than sufficient. Jan also had a side salad which she said was very fresh and the dressing seemed to be homemade. Would definitely stop here again. Dining room is relatively small, and a little dark which added to the atmosphere. Music was audible but not so loud that you could not hold a quiet conversation at your table. Service was friendly and prompt. I will return in a few weeks and try them again this time will have one of the burgers.

First of all, I have to respectfully take exception with some of the other items mentioned in the other Elite's reviews here: 1) Random assaults by frightening insects are not a usual part of the dining experience. 2) The tables are not so tall that only the Bronco's basketball team will be comfortable. 3) The kitchen is not on a campaign of terror against, vegetarians, gluten free diners, and people with food allergies. However, if you are a fan of those other Elites, please take their word for it, because it might make it easier for me to get a table here, because any given night this place is packed, and it's been that way for years. What these unfortunate diners think they are coming to this ale pub for is what the restaurant was built on, doing a few things well. The aged. succulent beef, like the New York strip I get, is their primary weapon in their war against vegetarians. The fact that some of that beef is grass fed, however, should not make you think its gluten free. Remember, it's impossible to order food that's gluten free in a steakhouse, there's got to be some grains in that aged, grass-fed beef somewhere. Vegetarians should ignore the delicious pasta primavera, The fact its delicious is a diversionary tactic used to lull vegetarians into a false sense of security. You just don't want to eat here. The fact they've also added a larger selection of on-tap beers also just steers me away from this place every time! I can't fathom why I've been coming here off and on for five years now to eat. So, while there is no explanation why this place seems packed every time I eat here, believe me when I say the other elites are right you are risking your fate by eating here as BIG SCARY BUGS WILL ATTACK YOU, and maybe I'll be able to finally get a table. Again, please don't eat here, especially if you don't like good food.

One of my favorite restaurants. I eat the Pterodactyl wings a lot. Love them! Their steaks are fantastic. The mile high mud pie is an indulgence that shouldn't be missed. A great beer selection and the staff are all fantastic. The owner often comes out to say hi. Great place to eat! Updated review We took my father in law to Kahootz last weekend. The wait was about 30 minutes. We grabbed a couple of beers and waited for a table. A table was ready in about 15 minutes. They gave us the beers on the house. Nice! The service is always awesome. I had the steak salad and it was excellent. You can't go wrong with this place.

Wow! You will not believe the food coming out of this place! We had the artichoke dip to start and it was piping hot, creamy, cheesy, and the bread was perfectly toasted but chewy in the middle (yummm). My husband had the steak salad and I had the pork loin. Holy smokes! Two super thick cuts of pork that were tender, juicy, and easy to cut. The wild rice was delicious and the asparagus was fired perfectly on the grill. Plus, the prices were amazing. We weren't drinking, but the beers were in huge handled glasses. I saw two tables order the bread pudding (I think that's what is was) and the server delivered it and then poured an entire cup of caramel over the top! I'm absolutely coming back to try it- we were too full to even entertain dessert. Our server, Cameron, was attentive, quick, and friendly. I can't believe the quality of food for the deal of the price. Definitely recommend.

Love this place. Small but effective menu, food cooked just right. Locally owned. Friendly staff. What's not to love? Especially love the outdoor seating in the warmer months. Great place for a cold beer and a gourmet burger. An absolute must is the bread pudding. Don't miss it.

SERIOUSLY....were did this come from? And i mean that in a good way. : ) This by far is one of the valley's best kept secrets. My girlfriend and I were in Meridian today and hungry, so i was lookin on yelp for places to eat and found Kahootz....Thank You Yelpers. Wonderful little steak n ale house!!!.....we started off w/ the queso cheese dip.....holy crap!!! I thought my mom had come back from the dead to make their cheese sauce with jalepeno, onion n tomatoes in it, it was that good!!! I had the chicken marsala ( i was lil hesitant at first to try it because every place that i have tried chicken marsala around Boise.....straght up SUCKED!) But w t h lets give these guys a whirl.....i would have licked the plate if my g/f wasn't with me...lol!!! Fantastic!!! The pic of the bread pudding n the mile high mud pie.....if you can't tell the sheer magnitude of these by the pics. Let me put it this way, we ate on these til we were completely stuffed brought the left overs home. Gave a piece of each to 2 other people and still had enough to put in the fridge n freezer for later. The only thing i didn't like was they put bacon in their clam chowder. It was still good but i thought the bacon over powered the clam chowder taste a bit. I have to say the presentation of food was very very good as well. Kahootz those guys in the kitchen ROCK!!! Also Jennifer our waitress....she was outstanding n very pleasant!!! Thanks Kahootz we'll be back for sure.

This was our first time here. We live a mile away so thought we needed to check it out. We were very happy with the beer selection! So many choices. Our server was super friendly and nice. The steaks were perfectly cooked and delicious. We will be back for sure!!

Amatureishly prepared food. High prices. Inattentive service from poorly prepared servers. Undercooked wings over cooked burgers and warm beer. Other than that it's great. I stay away. Gave it 4 chances and went from bad to worse. You can do better , almost anywhere.!!

  • Michael B.

Great little spot for prime rib and a beer. They have a nice selection on tap. Ask the bartender for a sampler platter, and he'll pick like 7 different beers for you. The wings are a bit strange. They don't separate them at the joint so you get both the wing and the leg in one. Prime rib is amazing, sells out fast though so get there early enough on the weekend. Their desserts are huge. Make sure you save some room.

I love going to this place. It's a cozy place to go for the winter, and a relaxing place for the summer. Lots of beer on tap paired with good food equals a pleasant experience. Most of the beers on tap are micros, with many of them local and regional. The beer is reasonably priced also. I had a New York steak, which was above average. Nothing fancy was on the plate. My wife got the Alfredo, and it blew us away. It was the best Alfredo I have ever had. It had a good blend of garlic, lemon, and a little cheese. I look forward to going here again.

I believe these guys had the claim to the most taps in Idaho (43) for a while, however there's a new place in downtown Boise as well as a Yardhouse in the works, so that record has fallen. Still a really good selection. I've been here a few times with my family, all of which were good experiences. Their $9 sampler mat is a bargain. It's also 40 oz of craft beer, much of which is high ABV, so make sure you have a driver if you need one. I've got one tiny gripe on the beer, they don't appear to have any hard rule to pull a keg after a set amount of days. This is becoming more commonplace in big beer bars (removing a keg after 30 days regardless of how much is left) but the beer scene in this state is definitely still evolving. Hopefully they implement something like this in the future. The food is solid, nothing amazing but everything I've had was tasty. It's a tad on the pricey side but not ridiculous. I wish the menu was a bit larger, I tend to prefer sandwiches or burgers with my beer and their selection is a bit small, but so is the restaurant so I understand they might not be able to support a huge menu. Overall it's a solid place that I will continue frequenting. Kid friendly too, my daughter loves their kids menu.

The food was amazing, and the service was even better! Today was my first time here, and I am impressed! Very nice and cozy inside, and waitress was very friendly. I had their Korean tacos, and I ate every bit of it! I will definitely be returning soon, and recommend everyone try this place out!

We stumbled upon this place when we were running errands in Meridian. It was a pleasant surprise. They had a great beer list, great service, and a great overall feel to the place. The food though was just average. I would be back for sure if I am in the area but I would come for the people, the service, and the beer and not necessarily for the food.

My wife and I sauntered over to Kahootz to try something new and we were impressed by what we found; a small, neighborhood pub with a great beer selection and food to match. Kahootz is a very cozy feeling place with the decor and ambiance you would expect from a pub/steak house. The staff was excellent and our glasses were always full. Actually, the staff was much more professional than I expected and we were pleasantly surprised by our waiter. As far as beer selection, it's great. My two favorites (Pike St. Kilt Lifter and Mac and Jack's African Amber) were both on tap and it looked like they were accompanied by twenty or so other brews. In terms of food, the usual steak, burgers, and chicken selections were there. I ordered a reuben and fries and my wife had a steak sandwich. We were both very pleased by our meals. Gripes? I don't have any. Good food. Good beer. Good price. Great service. Give these guys your money, they deserve it.

the atmosphere is what you pay for here, and i couldn't be more pleased. for the price the food is good, but I love that it feels like a restaurant/pub instead of a fast food/ homeless shelter enviroment

I eat in steak houses all over the country. Kahootz measures up with all of them. Steaks are cooked spot on. Many places don't know how to serve a steak medium rare. These guys do. When you read other reviews complaining about their undercooked steaks, it is because they are accustomed to cooking the flavor out of everything. The dining room is small but worth the wait. We like to order off the fresh sheet and get a bread pudding for dessert. The wine list has a wide variety while being very economical. The beer list is one of the strongest around. The service is attentive and family friendly.

  • Ben S.

The beers on tap were plentiful and varied which I'll give credit for but at $6.25 per 16 oz pint is too much, especially for a Lagunitas. We had the Garage grinder with beef, should have been called the garbage grinder. Over cooked and unseasoned beef, bread wasn't toasted which would have helped not soak up what little juiciness was there. Just very bland and boring. Should just make a cheesesteak with that instead with a creamy chz sauce. Also had a cheeseburger. Looked/tasted like a frozen patty not impressed. I just feel like too many restaurants skimp on burgers and over charge for them and this is one of them. The servers were attentive and friendly which is great. I however won't be spending my dollar there again with so many great breweries and beer options elsewhere that don't charge so much.

When the original owner opened this restaurant, I went quite a few times. The food was a little above the regular bar/restaurant food in Meridian. I moved out of the area and haven't been back for about 7 years. Last Friday I was having my dog groomed and since this establishment was right around the corner I decided to try it again. The place was packed and there was only one table left. Since I was by myself, I decided to sit at the bar. I ordered the lunch seafood special (this is the same every Friday). Cod lightly breaded and fried with a panko crust. It was excellent and the fries were my favorite - square cut with the skins on the ends. They were also cooked so that they weren't mushy and limp which so many places tend to do. The sauce served with the fish was a little bland. I wasn't quite sure if it was for the fish or the fries. So, I asked for a serving of cocktail sauce. It was excellent! Next to me was the owner and he asked if I liked the fish. I said that it was some of the best seafood I have had in a long time. He told me that they have all of their seafood flown in fresh every day. I was impressed and want to go back and try other items on their menu. Great place, excellent atmosphere, and attentive staff.

Where else can you get BAKED fries?? They are awesome! Salad is piled high with great veggies, toppings, and nice, light house dressing.

Looks can be deceiving: this may appear to be a beer-centric pub, but these fellows take their food--especially their steak--seriously. Their New York was spectacular. Steak is why we came to Idaho, and this place did not disappoint. Highly recommend!

The service was excellent. I had the steak sandwich and asked for medium rare. The steak came out overcooked to well done. The horseradish was really uneven, in some places it was really thick and overpowering in other spots it was just right. Overall the food was pretty good but not exceptional.

Good choice of beers and great food. The service is exceptional. I don't know how you go wrong eating here. Had the pterodactyl wings for the first time and they were delicious. Funny they put them on the appetizer menu when they are a full meal. Also partook in the con queso dip which was delicious. Don't go expecting a cheap meal but very much worth it.

We went to Kahootz's last summer and we're very disappointed. The beer is good but that's were it ended. I ordered a NY steak! medium rare. The steak came out after a long wait and it was still quivering. It was barely cooked on the outside. I don't usually send food back and will just eat it but this was ridiculous. I got the steak back about 2 minutes later! Still raw, hmm, imagine that. I sent it back a third time and got it back in about 3 minutes, still raw, hmm, imagine that. I gave up on it and sent it back for good. At leash they didn't charge me - though I wouldn't have paid anyway. But hey, did I mention the beer was good;)

One of my favorite dinner places. Great good. Nice wine and beer selections. Friendly staff, and fun atmosphere. The bread pudding is a must at the end of you meal.

Great food and great beer! This is a very popular restaurant on the weekend and its small so if you don't want to wait go during the week. Also not the most kid friendly restaurant. We went without our son and I don't think we would go there with kids. Went on a Friday night so it was busy but we got a seat at the bar right away. Bartender was very attentive and had no problem with me tasting pretty much all of the 40+ beers they have on tap. Food was amazing. My husband had the Alfredo which was more cheese and garlic than cream. So good! I had the sirloin sandwich which had an ample amount of horseradish! I almost didn't write a review for this place because I want people to stay away but I had to say it is now my favorite Meridian restaurant!

My family and I went to Kahootz for dinner. The parking lot and outdoor seating were full. Once we were seated inside closest to the kitchen, a huge bug - praying mantus - landed on my wife and buzzed around our table. Many people at the bar and other nearby tables saw it or heard our table screaming. The bartender walked over and thanked us for killing it, because it had been eluding them. Off to bad start. Our server heard about it and acted as if it happened all the time. Numerous patrons came over to comfort my family or to simply check out the huge splat under our table that was made by my stomping on the bug repeatedly. We asked our waiter to ask the cook if they could make something gluten-free for our son. Our waiter went to the line cook who exclaimed (loud enough for us to hear 10 feet away), "we're too busy - no special orders!!!". Fail. At this point we should have just walked out. The food my wife and I ordered was mediocre at best. We tipped our server and paid our meal and left. Our server had a lot of tables, so we didn't see him often. I would have expected that after a 3 inch bug swarmed our table and caused a small panic in our section of the restaurant, they might have considered comp'ing our meal, but that wasn't something our server could authorize. I made several attempts to reach out to John Forsberg and Joe Anderson to notify them directly about our experience. On the menu it clearly states that they are "striving to make your visit special, so let us know how we are doing - the good & the bad!". After several failed attempts to reach them at Kahootz or the neighboring burger joint I'm told they also run, I'm posting my review here. I suggest you take your business elsewhere. There are many great restaurants in the Meridian/Eagle/Boise area, but Kahootz simply is not worth the trip.

Awesome local restaurant. No fryers here, all of their food is cooked the real way (fries are baked). They have an extensive beer list and a good selection of wine but the downside is no full bar (however in Feb. '12 the server told us they were working on getting their liquor license to here's to hoping soon!) They have great specials, steaks are always priced right and delicious. My favorite dessert here is the creme brulee but I've also seen a flaming bread pudding dish that looks to die for (but not gluten free so I'll just look). Get here early as there are only a handful of tables and no reservations.

What were people thinking? Food was a long wait after we ordered. I ordered the sirloin steak sandwich...dry & chewy. My husband's dinner was just okay...pork chop & mash potatoes. If I'm going to pay $25 for a dinner in a bar..then it better be spectacular...this was not. Sorry.

To say this place is good is an understatement! I sat down with a fresh ROOT BEER in a 23oz frosty mug! I started with Pterodactyl Wings with homemade sauce and was blown away at the tenderness of the baked wings and the sauce... oh my a book could be written about it. Not to hot not to spicy, just right! I followed the 5 wings (true wings wing and drum connected in one) with the "Mutha of all" Reubens! Fresh corned beef, sauerkraut and homemade 1000 island dressing. Wow!!! Now I am not a beer drinker but they had 25 or so on tap. Next time I am in the area I will be visiting again!

Funny small dive kind of a place with DELICIOUS food. I got the $12 steak and it tasted like a $25 steak. Great potatoes and veggies, really great quality food. I wouldn't bring kids here probably just because it's a little cramped and small, but a great date night place.

Every time we are in town we stop for the fish tacos and the incredible mud pie. In addition to great food the staff is very friendly and welcoming.

I had the Iceberg wedge salad with blue cheese dressing, roasted soy beans, and pepper bacon to start. It was very delicious and i had to restrain myself from licking the plate. Next, a French Dip sandwich with Swiss Cheese and fries. For dessert we had a "half order" of hot iron bread pudding. I've never seen anyone serve bread pudding like this: it comes on a heated flat iron with a scoop of ice cream on top of the bread pudding. The waitress pours this heated carmel/vanilla sauce over it and the entire thing SZIZZLES ! Eat it fast before the ice cream all melts and your wife doesn't leave you any! This place has a nice casual atmosphere and excellent, friendly service. Lastly, it looks like a hole in the wall from the street -- but in my opinion it is one of Meridian's hidden gems. I drove pass it for 3 years without stopping becasue I figured it was going to be dark and depressing inside. I can't say how surprised I was to see a standing room only crowd, 45 beers on tap, and a jovial crowd inside. The parking lot is behind the building so it always looks like nobody is there. Fool me once, but never again !! I love a surprise like Kahootz Steak & Alehouse.

First time here for 5 of us, which included 2 locals. Tavern ambience with good food. Although I was bummed that I couldn't get a martini, it is, after all, called an "alehouse". Wine selection limited but good. My filet mignon was cooked perfectly medium rare, as ordered. Other diners had steak salad, fish tacos, soup & salad and new york strip; all said their dishes were good. Our waiter, Brandon, was anxious to please and even brought out gorgonzola, as requested, to accompany my steak. We arrived early in the evening, around 5:30, and had no trouble parking or getting seated. But even on a weeknight, I noticed that it was filling quickly an hour or so later when we left.

Great local restaurant with an extensive list of beers on tap, which is important when you have a beer connoisseur in the family. Definitely one of the best in the area. They also have a decent wine list though limited.. The food is excellent and the staff friendly. Seating is limited so you better arrive early on the weekends.

We love Kahootz! Been there many times and have yet to be disappointed. Great place to just unwind with a cold beer (if you can pick just one from all of them). Very casual environment and we always look forward to the specials. This place is a must go.

We are locals and regulars at Kahootz, at least once a week. Everyone there ( Beside the new people :)) know us by name. Kahootz deserves five stars. I am only giving it 4 because I am not a big fan of sauces on my steaks and putting sauces on their steaks is kind-of a thing for the chef. The food here is great and there are regular specials. The clam chowder is the best I have ever had. I love their wings and usually get one of the specials. We do not drink but if you like beer I do not think you can go wrong. The owner has 47 beers on tap with a special way of bringing it from the keg to the tap.

50 beers on tap. How can you not love that selection if you're a beer drinker. They also have a nice sampler so you can can pick and choose I think 8 different beers to try out. They are also constantly rotating their selection and get some very limited specialty beers like The Abyss. The food is pretty good too. Definitely much better than your typical dive bar.

We had a horrible experience and we will NEVER be back. I ordered a ribeye and for my $22 I got a paper thin, grisled tough piece of something I wouldn't give to my dog. But they were consistent. The service sucked, the food sucked, and the prices sucked. Too bad you don't have minus stars. By the way, I have a big mouth and I tell EVERYONE about our horrible experience.

We love this place. Where else can you get an amazing beer and high-end restaurant quality food in an informal setting. For beer lovers, they actually have The Abyss on tap right now!!! You have to "know people" to score that beer! This place is like cheers! I rarely go past the huge specials list for my order. The dishes are innovative, well prepared, and always delicious! Go early, as they don't take reservations.

Always great food, service and really decent beer selection. The dessert portions are worth mentioning; they are huge! The bread pudding is some of the best in town. This place is no secret though and gets busy fast, but is well worth the wait.

Love Kahootz. We go there 3-4 times a year as a special evening or lunch. Food is always prepared to our request. Service is always good. Yes it's a bit noisy, but that's what you get when you go here. Not a drinker (any more!), but the beer selection looks great. Great steaks and sandwiches, Garage Grinder is my favorite sandwich. Desserts are good also if you have room!

I have had dinner at Kahootz about eight times in the last year and find it to be a very good locally owned restaurant. The food is simple but good. The owner is always there and I hope that he makes money as he seems to work very hard at ensuring that the food is good. They have an excellent beer selection and I find this place to be a nice neighborhood pub.

This place is a beer lover's paradise. There's about 30 beers on tap. It's a pretty small place and looking at it from the out side it appears to be another low budget bar. You would never guess that the food is actually amazing. The crew that servers lunch on week days is not the same crew that cooks at night. At least that what it seems like to me. I mistakenly took some out of towners to Kahootz for lunch expecting the same incredible food. They were not impressed.

This place is hard to see if you're not actually looking for it. It's set back from the road a bit and the building is dark green so it sort of blends in with the trees that surround it. We went on a Saturday and were lucky to get a spot out on the patio because they were quite busy that night. There was a one man band playing a mix of blues, rock, jazz, etc. The atmosphere was perfect! The service was excellent, the wine was delicious and the food was pretty darn good too! It's mostly a steak house but I ordered the fish tacos which were tasty! Don't pass up the Queso Fundido!! It's to die for. Can't wait to go back!

Have a mixed review.... In a nut shell food was great .... Service was not so great... However... in the end it all worked out and I will definately give them another chance. . Started with the Clam chowered which was a little thin for my tastes but the overall flavor was great.. For the main menu I ate the Spicey Thai Shrimp dish which was flavorful and fresh.. My date had ordered a medium rare prime rib which came out not so medium rare.. or even medium...The center of the meat was more grayish with maybe an imagination of pink... We sent back the meal wanting a more rare piece.. Waitress came back and said that was the last piece of prime rib...hmmm.. Were they sending out something they knew was not correct?? In any case we exchanged the meal with a top sirloin which was corrrectly cooked. Bad part about it was by the time my date recieved her meal, everyone at the table had finished their meal.. The check came out and they had changed for the more expensive top sirloin cut... Not big deal as it was only 1-2 bucks more... I dont mind paying for what I get.. it was a little disapointing that they didnt think to give some kind of break for sending out the over cooked meat and having the the last person basically eat by themselves..... Some people at dinner had already finshed their meal by the time the replacemnt steak had been sent to the table. Also drinks often when empty... but somewhat understandable as the resturant was packed. The positive.... A person(owner??) was walking around and asking were we satisfied with our meal and we noted that we had the over cooked problem... he was understanding and said he would try and make it right.. Ended up giving us a gift certificate to comp half the cost of the compromised plate.. Like I said in the end it all evened out... the low points were... The thought process by the waitnress to "make it right" was perfunctory.. Had to let someone other than our waitress know before they initated any type of comp.... If we didnt recieve the partial comp this would have been our last visit.. The food was good.. the last person we delt with made it right.. I hope my service experience was a fluke andon my next visit I can focus on the food rather the bad service.. Update to follow
