Epi’s A Basque Restaurant Menu

Based on all the great Yelp reviews we chose Epi's to celebrate a special occasion. Located in a renovated home on Main St., the interior is warm and cozy. Seating is limited but it didn't feel cramped...more intimate. The staff and owner are delightful and charming. We started off our meal with the ham croquetas, puffy little clouds of silky potato/ham/cheese deliciousness. If you don't fall in love with these little poppers, you have no soul. All entrees came with soup, salad, bread, roasted peppers, and a pilaf style side dish. I ordered a single lamb chop from the "lighter fare" menu and my hub had the filet medallions. Unfortunately both dishes were unremarkable. My lamb chop was small and dry and kinda of looked lost on the large dinner plate.( Lamb is one of my favorite dishes and the main reason I chose Epi's.) Hub's was a little better; his was accompanied by a tasty sauce. Also, neither dish was hot when it arrived at our table. Service, although friendly, was sloooww. There is a big difference between slow and well-paced service. We had to flag down our server for water and to take our plates. All together it took us an hour and a half to finish our meal. Not sure if I will be back. I was really hoping for a more satisfying dining experience.

This place sets the bar. Amazing service and great food. If you haven't tried it you are missing out on a gem! Make a reservation as they are usually packed.

Denizens of the Treasure Valley, in a perfect world we would all go out to our back yards, pick fresh fruits and vegetables, grow grains for our own flour, and slaughter the family pig for supper. We would take all these fresh ingredients into our kitchens and we would prepare them with dedication and love to produce the finest meals for ourselves and our families... ...ok you can stop laughing now. But in the world we live in, there are folks who can dedicate the time and effort to prepare such wonderful meals for us. That is what you will get at Epi's. No they don't have the farm right out back, but the ingredients are as fresh as can be and are prepared with all the love and attention in the world. That is one thing that set this place apart for me from the moment I even made the reservation over the phone. This is a restaurant run by people who love what they do, and it shows in the food and the presentation. Everything about our experience at Epi's was top notch. The service was spectacular. Our water glasses never went empty. The courses were properly paced. Heck we were even offered a second bowl of soup if we had wanted it. We declined because we wanted to enjoy our entrees. Dessert came with coffee, which only I availed myself of, but was another very nice touch. Yes the "bill" is a bit high, but believe me when I tell you, you will get your money's worth. So how about that food? Do yourself a favor and get an order of the ham croquetas for an appetizer. No, I take that back... if you REALLY want to do yourself a favor, get two orders so you won't have to share them with your dining partner, because I guarantee you that after tasting one... you won't want to share. Amazing. The soups vary. Every day you can get the red bean soup, which is perfectly serviceable and tasty, and then a soup of the day. When we went this was a mushroom soup seasoned with white pepper. I'm not a mushroom fan so I passed, but my wife liked it. For entrees both my wife and I opted for seafood... halibut for me and shrimp for her. We both enjoyed our meals immensely, but strangely we both preferred the OTHER'S meal more than our own... not that we were unsatisfied with our choices, just that after sampling a bite from the other's plate, we both agreed that the other dish was better than our own. I think a lot of that had to do with the lobster cream sauce on my plate. My wife is a fanatic for lobster while it is just "ok" for me. For dessert we absolutely had to try the apple bread pudding. Man I wish I could learn to make bread pudding as well as some others do. It is one of my favorite desserts but I never seem to be able to get it "right." Well no worries about that here... again just amazing. Bottom line folks, if you want great ethnic fare prepared by people who love what they do and it shows on the plate, head to Epi's. You will be amazed.

DON'T EVEN ATTEMPT GOING WITHOUT RESERVATIONS!! Don't even know where to start here. Took my husband and in laws. The servers are the nicest people ever! It's very family too. Loved the bread with butter (yup filled up on that easily). I ordered the squid in ink, which was amazing, highly recommend. Husband had the lengua which was absolutely amazing and in laws had the Special Trout which they said was amazing. We had dessert and I fully recommend the Bread pudding, it was WOW!

This is fine dining at its best, without the stuffiness of places with waiters in starched collars and an expectation to dress up. The experience at Epi's is more like going to your favorite aunt's home and having her dote on you. Reservations are always recommended and I called and left a message on their voice mail Saturday morning for a table that evening. Co-owner Chris Ansogegui (who runs Epi's with her sister Gina Urquidi) called me about noon and sounded excited to have us join them for dinner. She was also the one who greeted us warmly as we entered the erestaurant, a former home on Meridian's Main Street. I ordered lamb chops (Arkumea Txuletak) and my companion ordered beef tongue (Mingaina) in a pepper and tomato sauce. Before we got those entrees, however, we had a Calamari (Kalamareak) appetizer that was the best squid dish I have ever eaten. There were also a house bread, a green salad and our choice of a red bean and cream of mushroom soup. We ordered one of each and they were both excellent. The mushroom soup even had a slight spice bite that was very pleasant. The main dishes were superb. The lamb chops came grilled and were perfectly charred and very flavorful. The tongue was soft and easily cut with a fork. We finished off the meal by sharing a slice of chocolate mousse cake. It was also very good. The service was impeccable. Our waitress came by often and boxed leftover items as we finished each course. Chris also served dishes and roamed around the dining room talking to patronsand asking how they were enjoying their meals. This is not a place for dining on the run. We spent two and a half hours there and it was hard to believe we had been there that long. Everything was served in courses and they waited until you were finished with one before moving on to the next. By the way, the closing hours are misleading in a sense. They aren't when the business shuts down but rather the ending time to seat new diners. So you've still got plenty of time to order and eat your meal. The Ansotegui family has a long food service history. Epi Inchausti, whose grandchildren named their restaurant in her honor, is considered the matriarch of Basque cooking in Idaho. Epifania and husband David Inchausti opened the Gem Bar and Boarding House in Hailey in 1936. Ernest Hemingway, Clark Gable, Bing Crosby and Tennessee Ernie Ford and Gary Cooper were among the celebrities she cooked for. An annual lamb dinner and auction that Epi and other area Basque women organized in the 1940s as a benefit for St. Charles Catholic Church is still held. Dining at Epi's isn't cheap. The tab can run to $50 a person, but the food and service are well worth the price for an occasional big night out. It's a great experience, as you can tell by reading all of the other reviews here. It's a rare place indeed that deserves and consistently receives such high praise.

I am going to keep this short because Ophelia really summed up the entire experience in a way I cannot outdo, and throwing more fluffy language at this amazing restaurant isn't going to increase its rating from 5 to 6 stars. If I could give 6 stars, I would. This is the most amazing Basque dining experience and food that can be had short of traveling to Spain. The food is amazing, it is certainly worth the wait, it is worth the long dinner progression. Make a reservation, enjoy an authentic experience, and walk away with a giant smile on your face.

I'm not sure where to begin with this one, so here goes................. .......while rolling through the tail end of our Alaska-Canada motorcycle road trip, I had wanted to try this place for over a year. In fact, we made it a point, 2 years in a row, to include Wyoming/Idaho for steak and Basque food, since as far as I'm concerned, it's some of the best food in the world. Epi's certainly does NOT disappoint!!! Our evening, from the moment we arrived, parked and walked in the door, was absolute PERFECTION in every way. Beginning with a warm welcome, a perfectly located table, competent staff (many of whom are family members), delicious home made food and great wine to wash it all down. Our entire evening was absolutely delightful. So looking forward to our return trip, sometime next year.

The only thing better than the food at this restaurant is the service. The owner greeted us as we walked in, and checked on us multiple times during the evening. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, as was everyone that came to our table. The calamari was cooked perfectly and the sauce that came with it was delicious. We both ordered the red bean soup, and the owner brought us a sample of their cream of mushroom soup. I highly recommend the cream of mushroom soup and wish I had ordered it. I had the lamb shank special and my wife had the halibut in lobster sauce. Both dishes were great! When we left we said thank you to the owner and she hugged us both and thanked us for coming in. What an amazing experience, hospitality like that is hard to find these days. We will be back, this is our new favorite spot.

Most amazing dinner I have even had in all of Idaho!! From the moment you walk in and get a friendly smile from the owner. Food was excellent . Even if the food wasn't good I would have been happy to just pay for the friendly service. Oh my gosh the green apple bread pudding was to die for. I would go 100 times over just for desert. This place is a must go if you have not. Make sure to make reservations .

I've been wanting to try this place for a long time but given the crazy reservation schedule I was unable to secure one until last weekend. I made a reservation for 10 people and we were sat right on time. Most of our party ordered appetizers and they were pretty good, but nothing to write home about or worthy of 5 stars. I shared 2 entrees with my girlfriend both the lamb chops and the 2 way cod. The lamb chops which I ordered medium rare came out more then well done. 2 others in our party ordered the lamb chops and they all had to be sent back. The butter cod was good but extremely heavy and rich, bring your best stomach. The grilled with pimentos was decent but pretty bland. So your choice, heavy or bland. Another thing is you need a good 1:30-2 hours to eat here as it takes a bit of time to eat appetizer, soup, salad and entree. The best part of the Epi experience was making the reservation as the owner is spunky and overly nice. The biggest part of why I gave this experience 3 stars was because about half of us were sick after eating here and we spent most of our night in the you know where. The consistent 5 stars make me think either the Yelp community here has never eaten out of Boise or that it was a fluke night. Maybe I'll give it another try, but I've got to do some stomach training first.

This place was absolutely terrific. Went last week with my fiance. It was my first time here, but I will definitely come back. We had a 7:15 reservation and were seated right on time. The owner was one of the nicest people, and the staff was extremely helpful and very nice. The starter meals (soup, salad) were both delicious. I had the red bean soup. Great flavor. And then the salad was a smaller portion, but the dressing was spot on. Had the SPECIAL for my entree, which was a lamb shank. They slow roasted it so the meat just fell off the bone. It was great. My fiance had the lemon crusted halibut, which tasted extremely fresh. The one thing that didn't "WOW" me was the rice side. It tasted okay, but was nothing I desired to finish. Now, the highlight of the evening, was the dessert. We shared the homemade green apple bread pudding. Wow. Just wow. This might be my favorite dessert in all of Idaho, and one of the best I have tasted. The warmness of the bread pudding with the caramel sauce and whipped cream was just perfect. I could have eaten a whole second one myself. This quickly became one of my favorite restaurants around. It's more expensive ($20-30 per plate), but well worth it for the amount of food you get and the quality of the food. I will be back!

We came without reservations from Reno and Chris immediately sat us at our own table outside to accommodate us. The beef medallions melted in your mouth and my husband had the fish special of which he said "was over the top". Cruz was our waiter and was so kind and helpful! They both treated us like family! Definitely worth coming to Meridian, ID for dinner! Graci!!

Having been to Epi's 4 times over our visits and residence in the area, I decided to add my thoughts to these reviews. IMO, Epi's probably counts for one of the few "landmark" restaurants in Boise. Eventually, almost everyone has heard about it and it has been around for a long time. First, let's get a couple of things out front. It can be relatively spendy to eat here. I don't think that it would be excessive to spend over $35-$40 a head with wine and appetizer. Second, it is difficult to count on getting a table without a reservation. Weekends and Friday are an absolute necessity. Third, the food is quite good and all dishes are authentically Basque or done in the Basque style (e.g. rib steak). Look for the Basque name behind the English name to help decide which it is. Dishes like squid with ink, braised tongue, Basque peppers, or croquettas are authentic without much analysis. For lighter eaters, look at the light fare portion of the menu. Examples, the light fare pork chop dinner has one chop rather than two. Ditto for the cod fish dinner. Save a few bucks. But the full dinners are certainly enough for two people and the kitchen will do the split in the back and each half will be nicely plated. And lastly, the service is cordial and almost family like. They will remember your name and treat you like family the next time. One thing we found that amazed us was that even though we lately are less likely to eat big meals in the evenings, we enjoyed the full meal at Epi's. Now for the food. All meals come with a crusty bread, light in texture but flavorful. Soup is included and I favor the Basque bean soup. A small salad is next. Then the entree. Making up your mind may take some time as so many things sound good.Add in an appetizer and a good bottle of Spanish Basque wine and you can easily spend 2-3 hours in conversation and great companionship. And Epi's won't rush you even though they may want to turn your table for the crowd waiting outside. It is a treat to go, even if it is only once in awhile.

Never have I been to a 5 star (on yelp) restaurant, so I was dying to try this out on my last trip to the Boise area. It did NOT disappoint. From the ease of making my reservation (how sweet is Chris?!) to the warm welcome when we walked through the door, I knew it was going to be amazing. We had a cozy little table in the back corner which was perfect. The entire restaurant was full on the Tuesday evening at 7pm. Now on to the food... Seriously some of the best I have EVER tasted! Per previous reviews, I knew I wanted to try the croquettes, but since we were still slightly full from lunch we ordered a half order. That was perfect for the two of us! Not kidding... They literally melted in my mouth. YUM. For our starter, we each tried a different soup. I had the traditional bean and my dining partner had the soup of the day, which was cabbage. We both enjoyed them very much. For dinner we split the halibut with lobster cream sauce and garlic peas on the side. Oh!Em!Gee! SO delightful!! It's a must! As we were finished with our dinner, a gentleman came to our table and said that he noticed we were looking at the ink fish he was having for dinner. Turns out, it was Epi's grandson. He offered us a few bites along with some bread to try the sauce. Honestly, it's a bit off putting with the black color, but the taste was enjoyable. Not something I would order on my own, but I'm glad we were able to try it. We also had the house red wine which was a Tempernillo and an incredible value at $20 per bottle. I am so happy to have had the opportunity to experience Epi's. We will most definitely be back!

I've been here a handful of times and each experience was exactly the same - perfect. You walk into a home - transformed into a restaurant - and treated like you are at home. The owner and staff welcome you like you were their best, long- time customer, even if it's the first time you've come in. Entrees come with a soup and salad. You get a lot of food, so skip lunch and maybe breakfast. You won't want to go without trying one of their appetizers (the mushrooms are my fav) and some apple bread pudding for dessert. The menu, while on the small side, has something for everyone. And there has always been a special each time I've gone. Plan on around two hours or more for your meal. The service is impeccable and they don't bring your next dish out until you are finished with your current one. This has to be one of my top two or three favorite restaurants I've ever been to. It's a little on the spendy side, but worth ever penny. Call ahead and make a reservation as seating is limited and this place is popular! You'll leave fat and happy and get a warm send-off from the owner.

As all of the previous reviews suggested, this place did not disappoint! The owner greeted us and gave us a little history of the restaurant and made my husband and I feel right at home. So very warm and welcoming. The food was delicious and cooked with love. We will definitely be back soon.

Well, I have to get on the bandwagon and agree with the overwhelming love this restaurant seems to continually receive. It just goes to show that having the right combination of elements is what makes a restaurant, THAT GOOD! It's not all about having the best prices, or the hippest joint, but the experience as a whole. Service here is personable and beyond friendly. It is very apparent there are numerous repeat diners here, and the waitstaff has an impeccable memory of these individuals. As other reviews have mentioned, they really do treat you like you've entered their home for dinner. Reservations are absolutely highly recommended. The dining room is small and the frequent return customers is definitely high. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that there our families out there with set reservations on a monthly basis. This is not a restaurant for a quick bite to eat. So maybe not the best location for a first date . . . as you will either have TONS to talk and fill in the void of wait time between courses. OR it will be so awkward by the end, your first date would probably be your last too. There are 3 courses included with your meal, and of course the option of appetizers and dessert to add on, so 2 hours is not out of the question. Everything I had or tasted was amazing. I grew up cooking with my Romanian great grandmother, and so I feel like I can spot true home cooking when I taste it. The food here definitely hits that bar. The trade-off: rich food made with rich ingredients; so probably not the best place for someone on a strict low-fat diet. I was so full when we left, I still wasn't hungry for breakfast the next morning. Items I tried: Crouquetas: Delicious Creamy Shrimp/ Lobster Soup: Scrumptious. Probably could of ate just a big bowl of this and been satisfied. Sizzling Garlic Shrimp: Rich and filling. Sides of the night (they change) roasted red potatoes and asparagus. Mouth watering. Dessert: Our table pretty much ordered one of everything, and there wasn't anything that I didn't wish I had more room to order one for myself. All in all, a restaurant like none other. Definitely worth bookmarking and visiting at least once, maybe for a special occasion.

Epi's is an experience. It's Basque food at its absolute finest. What you should know: 1) You should enter into a dining experience here knowing that it is a little spendy. Come prepared. 2) You should also come prepared to purchase an appetizer. Are their portions ample? Yes. So, why the need for appetizers? Ham croquetas. They have easily the best croquetas in the Treasure valley. 3) Your dining experience will take a while. They give you ample time to enjoy each course. If you are in a time crunch--this is not your place. Our party of 9 spent 3 hours dining here. The nice thing about how they space each course is that you're not filled up on soup, salad, bread, and 'tizers by the time your main dish comes. The pace is very leisurely. This could get downright annoying if you didn't have the time for it--so be sure you do. 4) If you wish to split one meal with your dining companion--tell them and they will bring it out presented beautifully on two plates. Two couples in our party did this and I so wish my dining companion and I would have thought of it as we both ordered salmon (which was their nightly special) and both weren't able to finish. 5) Order dessert. Their bread pudding is stupid delicious. It's precisely the same bread pudding your Basque grandmother would make you when you were little as an offering of culinary love. She'd say, "I have a little something for you, my little kuttuna." And, you'd practically squeal, "ahhh...Amona...it smells delicious!" That is, if you had a Basque grandmother. Which, as it turns out, I do not. But, if I did? She would have baked me this same exact bread pudding and said precisely that. The point? It's the stuff dreams are made of, my people. Get to it!

I honestly don't think you'll get better service than this place. I felt like I was family walking in and like I was going to be missed when I was leaving. Genuinely, too. The owners and staff here obviously pour their hearts into every aspect, from the service to the food itself (which is fantastic). I highly recommend Epi's, and I'll be sure to go back whenever I return to Boise.

Searching for a good restaurant in the Boise area, we noticed the five stars for Epi's and couldn't resist. It was everything the reviews promised and more. Excellent food and service, and they treated us like family. Best table in the house (on the porch) and we especially loved the Basque music!

Truly outstanding. Friends first took me to Epi's a dozen years ago and I try never to miss it when I come through Boise. Very popular with discerning locals. Reservations highly advised. Don't miss the calamari starter.

My wife and I went to Epi's to celebrate our anniversary last night and had a wonderful experience. Our server, Angela, came off warm and genuine, answering questions and explaining various dishes, and Chris welcomed us with enthusiasm and sincerity, likewise interacting with other customers, both new and regulars, as though they were long lost family and friends. The various courses and quality/taste of the entrees was superb. I had lamb while my wife had the squid in ink sauce, both of which were rife with flavor and ample portions overall. The restaurant's overall feel was very pleasant, relaxing, and homey, as though we'd truly been invited into a spiritual extension of grandma Epi's house and kitchen. I cannot recommend Epi's enough. Dining there is a lovely, delicious, and unique experience amplified all the more by the kind, quality people you'll interact with. Extremely recommended.

Wonderful experience at Epi's. The waitresses were so sweet and genuine. My fiancé and I had a very pleasant time enjoying our dinner here. My fiancé called to make a reservation, since they are only open for three hours a day, for 7:30pm. We called around 4pm and got the answering machine. He left a message for the reservation. They called us back thirty minutes later to confirm our reservation for 8pm. I was excited either ways. We wanted to reserve a seat at 7:30pm because they close at 8pm, but what a surprise, we were still able to be seated at 8.

Been there twice and each time the food and service is impeccable! Met the owner the second time who was so warm and sweet. She knew based on our reservation it was my birthday we were celebrating and she packed me a dessert of my choice on the house and put a sweet bday wish message inside the take home container. The staff there worked hard for years to establish and share this wonderful basque culinary experience and you can tell they really care about their service to patrons and quality of food. Try the halibut it's a must! Their house chardonnay La Terre was really good too. Calamari is a light perfectly battered seasoned app that melts in your mouth. Will return for sure.

You feel like you are sitting down to a meal in a home located somewhere in Spain's countryside. You feel like family, and you can taste the extra care they take in the food. Don't miss the bread pudding.

After going to Epi's, we had lunch at the Basque Market the following day and this only reinforced my opinion about Epi's. The pintxos at the Basque Market are spot-on and the meatballs are amazing! Seriously, try the meatballs at Epi's and then have them at the Basque Market and you'll see what I mean. Epi's are Subway or Pizza Hut quality.

On the spur of the moment, I decided to call and see if there might be a spare table for an early dinner tonight...as it was a little before 5, I got an answer machine, left a message and headed off for the restaurant...on the way, I called to see if they got my message...turned out my phone number was cut off and Chris (owner) was delighted I called back and gave me excellent directions to the restaurant where I made it in before a big party arrived! The above illustrates an endearing aspect of this place: friendly, outgoing service; very popular place/filled up quickly by the time I left...always good to see repeat patrons being welcomed like family. What about the food? Excellent calamari steaks and delicate rockfish served with wonderful aioli (calamari) and yogurt reduction (rockfish). Servings were generous with nice touches (peas served separately), distinctive vinaigrette salad dressing...desserts to die for (brought back a bread pudding to savor later!) Wonderful to see a place live up to expectations and not disappoint...I'll have to come back next time I'm in town.

A completely unique and wonderful experience. Although there was a mix up with our reservation being entirely nonexistent, the owners more than made up for the minor confusion by seating us at a four top even though there were five of us and giving us the most complimentary service possible. The space is small and has room for maybe 30 patrons at once. Friendly, polite and homey, the owners mother, son and herself all participated in our wonderful meal. Unbelievably, there is a good amount of seafood available due to the proximity to Seattle. Chorizo ($13) was grilled lightly. New England style clam chowder was rich and creamy, not too salty. The Calamari is breaded lightly and has a slight snap to it. The beef tongue ($24) is prepared in an small casserole dish with a rich tomato sauce - milky, almost buttery, the tongue is tender. No knife is necessary to cut through the generous portion. A dish I have ever had anything like since or prior. Several orders of halibut and cod were breaded nicely and prepared with a buttery lobster sauce. Clearly fresh fish, flaky but unexpected in the midwest. No liquor, just wine.

This was my second time to experience Epi's. The first was a dinner for two while this time was hosting a group dinner for clients. Hostess Chris welcomed the group and made certain that we were set up for a lovely meal. One lady in our group is Basque and between she and Chris, they made sure that our group experienced 'real Basque' food such as tongue, croquetas, roasted peppers and traditional soup. We had one diner who ordered the unique ink fish ( which was actually quite tasty). The croquetas were my personal favorite...imagine a light creamy hush puppy filled with ham. I grew up on hush puppies in the south but these delightful morsels rival them as an appetizer. The food was hot, delicious and plentiful. Marty our server was most attentive. The dining room is small and intimate with tables for 2-4 yet there was room for our table of 12 to dine comfortably. Fine dining, casual atmosphere, affordable with the most gracious hosts. It is an experience dining at Epi's and a must for when dining in Boise.

I called last minute. Kris was so hospitable, and fit us in. The food was great as always . (Expect traditional since they are Epi's recipes) , but the fish was totally yummy. One of my favorite restaurants in Idaho. Such a treat!

You have to love this great little restaurant. The food is truly comforting, and the owner is the sweetest woman, I wish she was my aunt.

Epi's......... Definitely in a class of it's own!!! I have been wanting to eat here for years but somehow I always forget about it when my wife and I are playing the where to eat game. Due to an UYE (Unofficial Yelp Event) I had the pleasure of checking Epi's off my places I'd like to go and I am adding it to my list of places I will be frequently going!!! So I find myself a little confused, I absolutely give Epi's 5 stars but they are not what I would traditionally be looking for in a 5 star restaurant. Usually I would expect a lot from a 5 star establishment such as entertainment, fancy decor, good service, well plated food and so on. But here it is a little bit different. The decor is more like you grandma's kitchen, the service is more like a family dinner, the food is beautifully served but in a very comfortable way and the entertainment is created in the form of continual conversation among your table and the staff. I had a blast!! Now for the food. The menu is not huge but I guarantee you will have a hard time choosing between the options. The appetizers were delicious and light. Our group tried, I think, just about every option and none of them were too heavy or took away from the meal. The potato balls were awesome! The rest of the meal came out in waves. First the soup, which I wasn't that excited about because it was 90 degrees outside, but once the creamy shrimp and lobster soup hit my lips, I could care less that I was eating soup in the summer. Then the salad came out which worked like a pallette cleanser before the entree. It was a simple house salad with light vinaigrette dressing, very simple and I appreciate that. Then the entree comes partnered with two sides. One of the sides, the asparagus, was served family style so everyone had to interact with each other and pass around the plate to share, I really liked that. The other was potato wedges served with your entrée, obviously Idaho potatoes......as if I could actually tell the difference between an Idaho potato from any other potato. As for the main dish I had the lemon zest crusted halibut with a lobster cream sauce and I couldn't belive the size of the fillet. To be honest I couldn't finish it and that was the most disappointing part of my meal!!!! Lastly they have some very unique dessert options. I'd go into detail on each, as we tried them all, but if I did I'd probably be cut off for making this review to long. Really though, the bread putting. ...... amazing! The ice cream cake, killer! But the one I'll be ordering again is the Gateau Basque, basically a cheesecake but much more dense and tasty. If I was to choose the one downside to this wonderful meal it would be that I paid $40 for a $16 bottle of wine. Funny enough, I'd gladly do it again. Lol!

I have never eaten at a Basque restaurant so when my husband surprised me with a random date night I was excited to try this place! Oh my seriously one of the best meals I've ever eaten! From the amazing service to the food, I'd go there tomorrow if I could. We started with a bottle of wine and the ham croquettes. I could've eaten just that and gone home happy. But then the meals come with a soup (I had shrimp and rice while hubby had red bean), the bread is amazing. It doesn't even need butter. The salad saves you from feeling too guilty. By then the entree comes in. My husband got the lamb chop and I got the roasted garlic chicken. I literally could've cried it was so good. I couldn't eat another bite until we ordered dessert. We got the green apple bread pudding. This is seriously one of the best meals I've ever eaten. We can't wait to go back! Yes its pricier than most date nights but you get what you pay for!!

Best restaurant in Meridian. I love the whole cozy atmosphere. They know you by name after the first visit it seems like. The food is excellent. Probably my favorite place to take a date.

We are new to Basque food, but having been here once before, we had to return again! This time, we brought the kids. Chris, Gina, and the entire staff are so nice. We had the ham croquetas as an appetizer, the brown bean soup (kids had 2 bowls - they loved it!), pork chop, rib eye steak, salads, peppers, and the apple bread pudding. Be sure to call ahead and make reservations, or show up on a day the BSU football team is playing - you might be able to just walk right in and grab a table. We'll be back for sure. I strongly believe the Halibut w/ Lobster sauce is the best thing on the menu.

This place rocks! My 1st night in Idaho was a truly multi-cultural experience thanks to Epi's (totally unexpected). We are huge fans of Spanish cuisine but had never tried the closely related Basque cuisine before. Epi's provides a crash course in all things Basque - food, wine, culture, and the how/why Idaho came to have the largest Basque population outside of Europe. Our waiter and the restaurant's hostess were wonderful; attentive, warm, friendly, and extremely informative. The staff at Epi's takes great pride in their food and culture (all staff members are Basque and most are related to the restaurant's founder, Grandma Epi). The restaurant is clean, comfortable, and well decorated (warm, cozy, and homey...as if you're dining at a friend's/relative's house). We sampled the Basque house red (drinkable, affordable, no frills), lamb stew (superb in every way - not even a touch gamey and perfectly seasoned), and the calamari in black squid ink (delicious and unique - a must try). All of the above was served w/ multiple generous sides/salads/breads. Even dessert and coffee was well worth the extra time and money spent (large portions, good qualitiy food). We highly recommend Epi's for a unique dining experience at very, very reasonable prices!

One of the better experiences of my life. Excellent service, small intimate dining area, delicious food and reasonable prices are some of the highlights. My fiancé and I got lucky walking in on Saturday night and getting seated, there are only about 15 tables in the building. Reservations highly recommended. We enjoyed a bottle of house Cabernet, ham appetizer, delicious soups, cold fresh salads, Halibut and Steak medallions and finished with a delicious Apple Bread dessert. Everything was good and came out quickly. Accepted my Amex. We got hugs as we were leaving. Cannot recommend this place enough. Amazing!!!

If you are in the area you MUST eat here. If you are lucky it will be a night that Chris makes the "Cream of Shrimp soup with rice", the most delicious soup in a long time. The portions are large so maybe split. Our friends had the Medallions, cut with a folk. We had the Halibut, no fish taste, delicate and oh so delicious. Sides grate.

Absolutely the most perfect restaurant in the Treasure Valley. I always get something that involves salt cod. I'm sad that they no longer serve the pipperak, but I can look over that. Everything is incredible tasting, authentic, delicious and wonderful. A great place to celebrate love, the Valentines Day menu is nothing short of incredible. Wow. I love Epi's!

I had heard of Epi's from a couple of friends and decided to stop in while I was passing through Boise. I am SO glad that I did! The whole experience was amazing. The (I'm assuming) owner ladies are probably the friendliest people on earth, and they made super extra double sure that we LOVED all of our food. We walked in right at 5 without a reservation, and it was no problem. We received a large quantity of food, and it was all fantastic. The lamb stew was incredibly tender, the roasted peppers and potatoes were perfect, the vinaigrette on the salad was superb, our basket of fresh bread was constantly full, and the Gateau Basque has become a favorite dessert. There's a really good chance I'll be stopping in every time I pass through Boise.

We've been going to Epi's for years, but hadn't been in a quite a while. Mainly because we don't plan ahead, and a reservation is absolutely essential -- even on week nights. We went this past Tuesday, and it was absolutely fabulous! The staff is so warm and friendly; they make you feel like invited guests that they're delighted to see. The food isn't inexpensive, but it's a good value. They cook with the freshest of ingredients, and all entrees come with soup AND salad, as well as fresh baguette. They always have a red bean soup, plus a soup of the day. If you can, plan to go when they have clam chowder -- it's the best clam chowder ever! They'll even let you have seconds on soup, if you can find the room. We love their salad as well. Everything is very fresh, and it's dressed in a light vinaigrette. I ordered a scallop dish from their specials menu, and it was delicious! The sauce was so good, it was tempting to just drink it once the scallops were gone! My husband had baked cod in a buttery cream sauce that was also wonderful. Both dishes were accompanied by perfectly cooked red potatoes in a light butter sauce. (You've probably figured out by now that this isn't diet food...) For a side dish, we were offered Anaheim peppers that had been flash fried. I tend to prefer my peppers stuffed with something, but these were still very good. We had no room at all for dessert, which was unfortunate as they have some great options. Because the interior is small and the tables are close together, it's a bit noisy. If you plan far enough ahead, you may be able to reserve the table on the enclosed porch for your group. It's nice and quiet out there, and very private. Kind of like having dinner served to you at a private home! We'll definitely be returning soon -- it's worth the effort to plan ahead and book a reservation!

This place is fantastic. Before trying this place, I never, ever went to Meridian, but this place comes up trumps so I go whenever I can. The service is excellent. They manage to pull of a unique mix of delectable food and warm welcome without tarnishing either or coming off cheesy. Everything is delicious. I would suggest ordering one special and sharing it with someone, then ordering one more set of sides. You'll be plenty full. I can't recommend any one dish because I have had something different each time and it has never, ever disappointed.

My wife and I were in town visiting my dad and my aunt for a week and they couldn't wait to take us to Epi's. As soon as we walk in the door the lady working greeted my aunt by name followed by a huge bear hug. We ordered some appetizers which included fried calamari, man it was cooked to perfection, they were nice and crispy. I'll speak to the lamb I ordered.. WOW ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. They were finger licking good. All in all Epi's is a great restaurant with amazing food and hospitality. I will definitely be back my next trip to Boise.

Surprise hit outside of Boise. The food is wonderful, but I was taken by the overall hospitality of all of the employees. I swear, I do not think there are any nicer and appreciative restaurateurs around. Nice atmosphere and a well appointed menu. Chorizo app, lamb stew and pudding cake - all very well prepared and tasty. I'd recommend Epi's to anyone staying in the Boise area (or living) - try and frequent this place.

I can't believe I haven't already posted a review for Epi's. It's my absolute favorite place in the Treasure Valley. If there were more than 5 stars available, Epi's would receive them. First of all - CALL for a reservation - Epi's is ALWAYS busy - which is a great thing and could tell you right there how good the food is. Getting a table isn't always easy, its I love the stake with lots and lots of garlic, the salad is always cold and well-dressed, the fresh bread is light and flakey - just perfect. The croquetas melt in my mouth - I could live on them alone, I think if they were my last meal I would die happy - I am so not kidding, they are that good! The daily soup is red bean, and even my kids love it - every time we drive by they tell me how much they want Epi's red bean soup right now! But my all-time favorite is their home-made, fresh, amazing and to die for Cream of Mushroom soup. It's only available on certain nights, so call ahead if you love mushrooms. You won't be disappointed. The customer service may be the best I've ever received anywhere in my life. Chris always remembers us, asking about the kids and our farm. Before we leave she gives us a hug and thanks us. Seriously, not living close to my mom or my grandma -sometimes I go in just because I need a hug. Oh - and don't forget the apple bread pudding for dessert. With rich, fresh caramel sauce and whipped cream - it just tops off the dinner perfectly.

Epi's is everything and more!!! The calamari is one of a kind! The clam chowder is to die for!! Halibut is savory, everything else is amazing..... But Chris meeting you at the door with a warm friendly hug really sets the mood for an amazing night of relaxed eating and unmatched service.... A real jewel for the Treasure Valley to be blessed with!!! Thank you for the many nights of great food and memories!!!!

First of all the service here is the best I've ever received! More importantly, I've never had basque food before, but I know good food and the food here is delicious! This will definitely be a regular spot for me when I'm in town. I'm sure everything is amazing here, but I had: Roasted garlic chicken Cream of mushroom Grilled cod with pimentos & garlic Green apple bread pudding Totally recommend this place!

I'm from Reno and go to Boise quite a lot. I have never seen a place have so many reviews and ALL 5 stars. I had to see for myself. YES, they well deserve every single star. From start to finish it was AWESOME. A must for anyone who wants to enjoy a outing 100%. This will be a place that is on my list to eat every time I come to Boise. Thank you Yelp for introducing me to this wonderful experience.

Best croquettas in the Treasure Valley, hands down. It's a small, close-knit dining area that feels like you're dining in grandma's house (that's meant to be a compliment). The staff is so friendly and will not hesitate to hug you and treat you like an old friend.

  • Tracy S.

Be still my heart. From the first bite of croquetas (which literally brought a tear to my eye, they were SO good) to my last bite of green apple bread pudding, this was a perfect meal. I had the roasted leg of lamb, which was actually my least favorite of the entrees at our table. Luckily we all shared, so I also got to have some of the tongue, the baked cod, and the ink fish. I only tried the ink fish so that I could say that I'd eaten it, but I LOVED it and would order that again on a return visit. The baked cod was a perfect dish. The tongue was tasty and well worth a try for tongue fans out there. The lamb was tender, but the sauce seemed to lack any complex flavors. The only other complaint I had was that the red bean soup was a bit too heavy for an appetizer. I recommend the white bean soup. But even those minor flaws were not enough to put any sort of dent in the beauty of this meal. The service is amazing, and you will leave this restaurant feeling very much like you were just stuffed to the gills by caring Basques in their own home. I can't recommend Epi's enough. I would consider another trip to Boise just to eat there.

Food was wonderful and the people were friendly. The service (Marty) was first-rate and very helpful and accommodating for the children. I had the cod, both ways. The sauce was great for dipping and the fish prepared well. I do not normally like peas but these were quite enjoyable. (raving about peas, yes I know that is odd)

Wow!! Best food, best service and we had the best time!! This will definitely be our "go to" place when we visit Meridian/Boise! You definitely need a reservation, and you will definitely love it if you ask for the enclosed porch seating, where it is quiet and private! We had amazing ham croquettes (it came with12 portions) for an appetizer that definitely melted in your mouth! We had the scallop's, lamb stew, shrimp and halibut main course dishes, and each one was FANTASTIC!! The dinner entry came with an amazing home made cream of shrimp soup, a salad with a light house dressing, and 2 vegie sides. No one had room for dessert, but they sent us home with the Mousse Cake and it was very tasty!! You will not be disappointed at Epi's!! Thank you Epi's, for the best dining experience I can remember!

The restaurant was full on a Wednesday night when we arrived at 8pm for (I believe) the last seating. We had the croquetas, the baked cod, and the squid in ink. The salad and soup were nothing special/ I sort of agree with the reviewer who said the soup reminded him of canned beans, but again...no pretenses, I wouldn't even have minded if they were canned beans -- it's not the foo foo sort of place. I'd say it is very good family style Basque food with no pretensions. Even if I was just in town for a day and at the restaurant for the first time, I felt like I was having comfort food. The croquetas were awesome, the fish soft and flaky in a really rich and creamy sauce, and the squid in ink was savory and not fishy (which is a worry when the ink is not fresh). The owners were very warm and friendly, I'd say it is a bit pricey, but the servings are huge. We took the croquetas to our hotel because there was just too much for 2 people, and up to now we talk about how we should have flown them home to SF to eat, heh.

This place just rocks. Plain and simple. I have gone to Epi's three or four times now and if I could afford to, I would go every week. Everything about Epi's makes for a great dining experience. The food is great and has its own unique flavor compared to similar restaurants and the staff goes above and beyond in terms of service and niceness. Be sure to make a reservation and don't be surprised if you call earlier in the day and get an answering machine. Just leave your name, number, and time you would like to eat and they will call you back as soon as staff arrive. Epi's only has about forty or so seats so your odds of getting in on a weekend without a reservation are slim. The only downside to Epi's is they are on the slightly spendy side but the food and the service is well worth it. I recommend this to anyone out of town looking for a standout dining experience. Also, if you need an appetizer order the croquettas, they are amazing.

Regular visitor to this amazing place. They always welcome you like family or a long time friend. Basque hospitality at its finest! Food is exquisite, and portion sizes are very generous so make sure you go hungry. Favorite appetizer is the fried calamari which is served as cut strips with a lovely dipping sauce. Best calamari in the area! The other appetizers I have tried are also great, but I love the calamari so much, it makes me feel like I will be sad if I eat there and don't have it. Favorite entrees include herb crusted halibut with lobster cream sauce, rib eye steak, lamb dishes are also fabulous... actually, it is too hard to pick because they are all wonderful. Often the entrees are served along side rice pilaf and another side, which can be seasoned french fries, basque peppers, green beans, etc. There have been a few times that the pilaf has been substituted with mashed potatoes or something else. Same with the desserts, I haven't found one that I don't adore. Reservation is usually required, due to limited space, but once you eat there once, you will do anything necessary to go eat there again. Go try it, you will be so glad you did!

Best family-style Basque fare in the Treasure Valley. Come hungry, and order with on open mind. Basque food is not for vegetarians or finicky eaters. Love the lamb chops and BEST rice pudding for dessert, family recipes, and authentic Basque atmosphere. This is a great place for foodies, out-of-towners, and locals curious for a taste of this region's rich Basque culture! ¡Salud!

What a treasure! It has been a long time since I have enjoyed a dining experience this much. My husband had the scallop special, my daughter had the light garlic chicken, and I had the roasted codfish. All were perfectly prepared. The service was exceptional and Chris and her sister Gina were charming. We will definitely be back the next time we are in town. Be sure you don't pass this jewel up.

Before moving to Idaho, I investigated the food scene in the Boise area and discovered a rich Basque culture. We asked our Basque Pastor (in Idaho City) for a recommendation and his eyes danced as he suggested this restaurant. In his opinion, Epi's is by far the BEST in Idaho! He advised us that reservations are recommended as the restaurant is located in a quaint bungalow home on Main Street and seating is limited. I called a day in advance and was given the cell phone number of the sweet gal who takes reservations. She was more than accommodating! The homemade soups were a grand way to start the meal! We seriously could have had seconds! In the category of appetizers, we adventurously ordered Tongue. It was breaded and incredibly tender! I will be back for more. Other favorites... * Calamari -- It was delicious and soft to the teeth. * Ham Croquetas -- a tapa regularly served across Spain. It offered deep-fried-goodness oozing with béchamel! * Meatballs served in a seasoned tomato sauce! A winner! My mother and I were thrilled when that evening's special was the Copper River Sockeye Salmon which is only available for a small season during the year. It was delectably prepared with an incredibly creamy sauce containing small shrimp! We just about licked our plates! My husband gave 2 thumbs up on the 14 oz. Ribeye Steak! And, although we were stuffed, we did manage to try one of their amazing desserts!

I heard about Epi's from a friend, but when I called in for a reservation I was completely confused. The woman there talked to me like I was a long lost friend. When I came in with my family, the same thing happened. She must be confusing me with someone that she knows. This continued all night as the waiter brought dish after dish of delicious food. By the end of the night I finally figured out that this is how everyone is treated at Epi's. When my family comes to visit from out of town, they always ask if we can go out to eat at the nice little house with the super-friendly people. That's Epi's...

  • Julie C.

I don't think there is any place that provides better service or a more special family atmosphere than what we experienced on our visit to Epi's. We visited recently, a little nervous about going to such a small place with 4 kids, but were welcomed with open arms, and by the end of the visit our 4 year old wanted to give hugs all around. (which is saying something!) the food was good and homey, I had the chicken and my daughter loved the meatballs. We loved the bean soup, as well. Definitely go and relax, you'll be well taken care of.

Are you kidding me?!?!? This place is in a word: PHENOMONAL... do, do, do-do-do! Even as a first time guest, you automatically feel like you're walking into Cheers where the owners know everyone by name. Chris is awesome! I ordered the Halibut with Lobster Sauce and honestly did NOT speak the entire time I was consuming this epic dish which was prepared to perfection. We also ordered the pork chop dish which was good, but not as great as the halibut. But wait, there's more, for desert we had the apple bread pudding with croissants and the rice pudding dish.... O-M-G! It was soooooooo good! You have to save room for dessert. Heads up, call to make reservations - Saturdays can be tough to get in due to private parties! This restaurant is worth the rearranging of plans to visit.

We have eaten at each of the Basque restaurants in Boise, and read great reviews about Epi's which is only about 15 minutes from downtown Boise. The reviews were right, this is the best restaurant in the area, regardless of cuisine. I had the Ink Fish, first time for me and it was great. Others had the pork chop, the halibut and the scallops. Everyone loved the food. They took special care of our young child who was celebrating his 2nd birthday. They brought his food early, and even had the sense to cool down his soup and entree so he would not be burned. Never have I had such great service. The dining area is roomy, and the restaurant is genuine Basque with family history to go with the meal. Highly recommended.

The food is a 4, the service is a 6, averaging to a 5. We went for my birthday, 1/25 and it was a Tuesday. I called at 5:15 to see if we needed a reservation because I know on the weekend you must. I told Kris (the owner) that it was my birthday and that my husband is from Spain. She is perhaps one of the nicest people I've met in my life. Kris' grandmother is Epi, who immigrated to Idaho from the Basque country, and handed down the recipes. Now seeing that my husband is from Spain (not Basque Country) we have had more croquetas than one would possibly want to imagine, and I have to say, Epi's has some of the best croquetas I've had in my life. She told me that her brother-in-law, who is Basque, makes them every day. The rest of the food was good, but nothing so spectacular. For my birthday she gave me a piece of cake to-go (also made by the brother-in-law), and I had it when I got home, and it was really, really good too. I would definitely recommend Epis for a great dinner experience out.

Even if Epi's had the worst food in Meridian, I'd still return just to see Chris--the most outgoing, sincere, warm and personable owner/hostess I have ever met. And probably ever will meet. She is in a league of her own. Fortunately, Epi's doesn't have the worst food in Meridian. It has some of the best food, Basque or otherwise, in the entire Boise area. You'll have to try for yourself and see. I guarantee it will be worth the trip. The food gets 4 stars, wine gets 3.5, and Chris gets 7. Which, on Yelp, comes out to 5 stars. Like others have mentioned--make a reservation. Epi's is busy. And for good reason.

Yelp comes through again. My wife and I were visiting Boise and didn't know where to go to eat. We looked up Epi's on Yelp and altough neither of us has tried Basque food, we were accustomed to French and Spanish foods and thought, it's a mix of the two and were willing to try it. It's a small place that looks like a house. There is no hostess but one of the wait staff will recognize that you are waiting and politely come to you. In fact, they were so polite, I was taken aback only because of the sheer sincerity. There was a 30 minute wait but the waitress (whom I believe is also one of the owners) was very sweet and kind. We wandered down the block to the Library Coffee house where they had a young band prepping for their nightly gig. This place too is very cool and warm right up to the wait staff. We started out with chowder and my wife had bean soup. It was above average with some different spices that we were not accustomed to but enjoyed. We then had a salad that comes with the meal and it had a nice light vinegarette dressing that was very tasty and fresh. Add the warm bread, and we were starting to fill up and we hadn't received our entrees yet. Our main courses arrived as we just started to settle our stomachs. I had their special shrimp wrapped in sole in a delicious and buttery cream sauce. My wife had lamb stew. (By the way, this is not a dieters place. They offer a lighter meal but it's pretty much the same thing without the main course.) Overall, the food was fantastic and tasty... more on the Spanish/ Basque comfort food side than petite French servings. Delicious! The prices were fair but perhaps hight for some. We had dinner, including a bottle of wine and an extra glass, no dessert as we didn't have room (that is saying a lot if you knew me) and we spent $100. This is a definite "must eat at" restaurant in Boise but be prepared to wait without reservations. You will enjoy it if you are not looking for a pretentious place to eat with "foo foo" food. Instead it is something my mom would have made, if she were Basque.

This happens to be my good friends favorite Restaurant and I can see why. Chris and Gina are the nicest ladies!!!! I was told when I flew into Idaho that I was going to be taken to the Epi's for Basque food. I had never had that before, so I was excited to try a new type of food. I had a garlic shrimp plate and it tasted yummy! I would recommend the little cheesy hammy fried balls... I don't remember the name but they tasted great. If you are in the area stop by for dinner.

Epi's has been on our "want to visit" list of restaurants for a while, but every time we called, they were already booked. We had some family in town recently and I called them up and they could fit us in. Everything we had to eat was amazing and the service was great. Everyone was friendly, helpful and explanatory. I'm a very simple eater, but found many things on the menu I could have chosen from. I opted for the scallops which were on special that were on amazing. Everyone else had lamb, which looked delicious.

The irony of this post is, I don't even like Basque food, but I love this restaurant, they made a believer out of me! Atmosphere, food, and service this restaurant has it all. Can be pricey, but a great place to take a date or friends/ family from out of town. Very small restaurant, make sure to call ahead.

This place is as excellent as slow cooking and hospitality gets! Although they were already booked up for the evening when I called at noon, Chris told me she'd try to get us in, and even called me back while we were skiing to give me her cell phone number so I could check on the table status. She got us a table in the best corner of the house and even sat down to chat for a bit. The food and service was great. My husband never had to ask for water, and he drinks it like a worked horse! The red bean soup was excellent, as was the citrus halibut, and the flan was the best I've ever had-creamy with a slightly burned caramel sauce. Mmmmm! Definitely make reservations, like a week before, or you risk losing out on this wonderful experience! The restaurant is closed on Sunday and Monday, and open from 5pm to 8:30pm all other nights.

I have been to Epi's 3 different times. Each time their service was fantastic, as well as food. It is memorable and come hungry!! I ordered the Baked Cod... I dont like fish and I really enjoyed this dish. Nice environment and food!

The one bright and shining star of this restaurant is the excellent service. The food was just slightly above average and a little expensive for the quality. It's really hard to judge from reviews where to eat in Boise. I have lived all over the world, and most recently on the East Coast. I love eating out, and I have the money to eat most of my meals out, but it's hard to find anywhere to eat that you aren't disappointed with after reading glowing reviews on here. the only really consistently good place I've found to eat here is Goldy's, but I've only lived here for 8 months and have high hopes. I think Boiseans just have lower culinary standards because every well-rated restaurant is just average so if you are a traveler, bear that in mind. At least this is what some of the natives from the area who have lived other places have told me they think the reason for all the good ratings for average food are. I go out of town once every 6 weeks and just get my fill of good food in other cities.

The food is good, not great... but the service and the people are AMAZING. You will feel at home, and they will never turn you away.

This is a very special place. The family knows us by name and if you come to visit us it is a guarantee we are going to take you here. The food is great; home style comfort food of the Basque culture. The atmosphere is great, laid back and comforting. This is top of the list for our style of seeking a special, unique dining experience.

Very charming restaurant with great food, run by very warm and friendly people. And perhaps the best thing going for it was what it lacked: popped collar assclowns fueled by hormones, trendy drinks and their parents credit cards that are all too common in other areas of downtown. The family feel to Epi's is wards off any obnoxiousness and preserves a dignified, yet relaxed air. The mushrooms and bread could be a meal in itself, the red bean soup was hearty and flavorful (but not overwhelming) the salad had an excellent dressing (but even at opening was slightly wilted due to the fact that it must have been prepared an hour or two in advance), and my meal--flat iron steak--was exceptionally prepared. The accompanying rice was a little too heavy on the saffron for my taste, but the roasted green peppers more than made up for any deficiencies. The only downside to this place is that they don't have a busboy. The waitresses clear the tables, which means that if you're in a hurry, you're out of luck. Seeing as though this place gets so crowded, having an extra staff member would get people in and out far quicker and would assist with getting overstuffed patrons back home before they pass out from eating too much!

This is my wife and I's Anniversary, Birthday, date place. I remember the first time we went in my son was like 4 months old but we needed a nice "date" even if we had to take the kid. Chris saw that baby and scooped him up. I figured she would bring him back after a few minutes but she trooped around with my son the whole dinner showing him to other frequent guests like it was her own. It felt like we went to Aunt Chris's for dinner. She treats you like she has known you forever. We LOVED it and have never had an experience like this place EVERY TIME. We always enjoy the home like atmosphere of Basque restaurants all over but this one is in a league of its own in every way.

The food at Epi's was great. The small menu provided plenty of delicious options to choose from. Everything was overshadowed, however, by the wonderfully sweet owner. You could tell she absolutely loves what she does. The ham croquetas were silky smooth with a crisp outer covering. I would go back just for them. The shrimp was cooked perfectly without being either underdone or overly cooked and chewy. They were crisp and well accompanied by a cream sauce.

Maybe the best food in Boise. Take your woman... not your business buddy. The owner already knows you ;-)

I loved the service! Our waitress and sister (the owner) were on the floor serving. Her Mom was in the back cooking along with some other family members I lost track of. Their brother used to own Gernika, but sold it to go back to teaching. So needless to say, the were Basque, and they new their croquetas. I like the fact that they gave you the option of the big or little portion of the same thing. All dishes came with rice, fries, soup, and salad. I asked if I could substitute my rice for a couple of croquetas and they gave me 6 (so good too!!!) and rice. I didn't finish my soup because I was trying to save room for what was yet to come, so she offered to box it up and then topped it off!!! My biggest complaint was the chicken I ordered. It was overcooked, but I was to shy to say anything. I still ate it, so it couldn't have been that bad. I loved my experience here, but because of the prices (and it's kind of a trek to get out there) I think I will stick to Epi's on special occasions.

I absolutely love this place. I think I may need to plan a trip back to Boise just to dine here again. This is a small family owned restaurant the serves Basque food. The restaurant appears to be a modified house and I can't imagine the dining room can accommodate more than 50 people so I would suggest making reservations. The staff is very sweet and take pride in their establishment. I hugged the owner when I left!!! The food is amazing; half because the taste was wonderful and half because it is something different than the other chain restaurants. Do not miss this place!!!

This is one of the best restaurants in town! The food is great and the service is awesome. If you have a special occasion, this is the place to go. You will need reservations as the place is small and very busy. Family owned and operated and you can tell. You will not go wrong of you eat here...it is the best!

Yikes, a most ominous beginning to my first use of Yelp! All these rave reviews of Epi's, including by self-described Basque experts. So disappointed by 1) the bread, the equivalent of French Wonder Bread. 2) the special Red Bean soup, tasted like Pork and Beans from a can. The entrees were good. Not great, good. The salad pleasant. The gateau basque cake like a shortbread in a contest to see how much butter and sugar could be compacted into each square inch. Had the dinners been priced 40% lower, and the bread, soup, and dessert mercifully not served.......It would have been an "okay" experience. I would never, ever send someone there for dinner. That said, the owners and waitstaff are the nicest people in the world and I feel a bit bad giving such a pan review.....but they're making plenty of money, and I wish someone, just one someone had warned me against having my one dinner in Boise here. So I am hopefully doing that very thing for some stranger.
