Our family has had good experiences at MFP that would rate higher, but today was not one of them. We were biking around McCall and stopped for a snack, sharing an order of fries, onion rings and two small shakes. The total came to over $15, which is a little steep for what we ordered, but we expect higher prices in McCall and MFP is a tradition whenever we are in town. The shakes were delivered first. They were great. Then one of the employees came to the window and asked if we wanted our order to go or to stay. We said they were to stay and then waited. And waited. And waited. Eventually two other groups who ordered after us got their food and we realized that our order had been forgotten. I went inside to ask them if our order was coming and they brought it out immediately. Both the fries and the onion rings were cold. It was clear they had been forgotten on the counter after asking how we wanted our order. I took them back inside and asked if we could have a fresh order since these had become cold while they sat. They took both orders back and delivered them in a few moments, having just put the first orders back in the fryer. Both were now overcooked- the onion rings burnt- and dripping in oil. The baskets had oil pooled in the bottom and on the lining paper. The forgotten food was understandable. The decision to send it out cold and then simply recook it was not. Especially at $3.50 for fries and $4.25 for onion rings.

Yummy burger and shakes. Burger meat is thin. The fries are enough for two to three people. I got the lemon cream pie and it was pretty yummy. Wait time in long.

I knew we were in for some good food when we arrived and the line was out the door. French fries and shakes were the highlight; hubs got the shroom burger and I had a few bites... very tasty. I ordered the junior which was straightforward. Boys shared a grilled cheese, which was made with thick bread and lots of cheese and fingers were happily greasy afterword. We all wished we had ordered a larger basket of fries because they were just that good. There are fancy teas next to soda fountain; options are nice, but wish one of them would've been traditional tea; we don't need coconut or strawberries in ours. The cherry shake was amazing; so flavorful, but the chocolate one was at the other end of the spectrum -- lacking real flavor. The staff was helpful and grateful for the tips. We'll be back to try more of their menu the next time we're in town.

Always good food and amazing shakes. Friendly owners and staff. This is our favorite "fast food" restaurant in McCall. And the lines on the weekend many others agree with me. Our favorite is the turkey burger run thru the garden with sweet potato fries (and fry sauce) and a chocolate peanut butter banana shake!!

  • Deanna S.

Wow!! What a treat. Yes, using high quality ingredients makes all the difference. Mushroom burgers=incredible. Sweet potato fries fresh and crispy. And then there's the ice cream. Caramel malt and hot fudge shake. Amazing. It's a go-to.

  • Anna K.

If I could rate just the shakes alone it would be 5 stars, but the food is just average. It's basic burger joint food and nothing too spectacular. The staff is very friendly and they have a fun vibe. Lots of outdoor seating too which is nice in the summer. The seasonal triple berry shake is AMAZING and gets 5 stars! Bottom line = skip food and just go for a shake!

  • Nick M.

The bottom line on a place that was full of disappointments: Burger was thin and dry and not fresh = 1 star Fixings and bun were satisfactory but nothing special = 2 stars Fries were ok but probably from the freezer = 2 stars Service was OK but they have a strange ordering system = 3 stars Shakes were the only winner here, thick and tasty = 5 stars We would only return for the shakes, nothing else. Their ordering system separates the shake order from the food order which caused us to receive our shakes after we finished our burger and that is not acceptable. The young lady that takes your order is very good but if you use a credit card they have a system which, frankly sucks. Save you money and eat somewhere else and stop in for a dessert shake.

  • Gabe F.

The milkshakes: luxuriously thick, not too sweet, with real fruit. Open late.

    (5)
  • Karleigh B.

Patty to bun ratio is bogus. Milkshakes are good. Although the attitude I was given was horrible.

I've passed this restaurant many times traveling through McCall hoping to one day try it out. But every time the line was out the door with people waiting to place and pick up their orders. That only added to the high expectations I had about trying MFP. I finally had my chance this past week. However, I was very disappointed. Both the cheeseburger and fries were ordinary. The proportion of meat to bun was poor. (Big bun requires thick meat patty)! Plus, the bun should be toasted or at least warm. Mine was cold. I don't care for shredded lettuce. For the price charged, it should have been a nice big, fresh, leaf of lettuce. I do feel good about helping the local teenagers who run the restaurant. But for less money, I can go up the street to Maverick and get a Bahama Mama!

  • Patrick N.

Worst shake I've had in my life. It was literally soft serve ice cream in a cup. And the ice cream didn't even taste good. Will not come back.

  • Clara L.

Enjoyed my veggie burger (Nut Burger) and the sweet potato fries were decent. If you're ever in McCall and crave for a burger, I guess this would be a go-to place. Nothing amazing but it was alright. Save some room for a shake tho, my family really enjoyed the Oreo milkshake. Or walk a couple of blocks down to ice cream alley for some amazing ice cream.

    (3)
  • F G.

Awesome shakes, and the burgers are divine, especially the nutty (veggie) burger. Even though there's always a line, they move along quickly. It's worth the wait. Best to go at non-peak times.

I ate the Heli-Tac Burger which comes with blue cheese, bacon, bbq sauce and an onion ring. Delicious! The fries were okay, and their fry sauce helped make them better. My friend ordered the sweet potato fries...yummy! They were cooked to perfection and did not have the breaded coating other places will sometimes use. I am a tea drinker and enjoyed their Tropical mixed with the Black. It was very refreshing, and had a hint of coconut that I liked. The place also serves ice cream and shakes. Unfortunately, I had no room left after the burger and fries. All in all, a good experience.

    (4)
  • Jonathan D.

Had the shakes....superb! Kids had Oreo ones, wife had pineapple, I had fresh raspberry - OUTSTANDING!

    (5)
  • Coralee R.

Milkshakes so thick you have to eat them with a spoon, but so freaking good! The burger and fries were also delicious. Fresh tasting ingredients, speedy delivery, and a fun diner environment. I was really pleased we decided to stop in here on our trip to McCall. Definitely would recommend!

  • Brandon S.

Nothing wrong with the food. The burgers were ok but $9 for a burger and fries seem excessive for this style of restaurant. The menu was confusing and unclear as to what you are actually paying for your food. The shakes were excellent. We will be back again for dessert.

This place is typically slammed on the weekends, and especially weekends with special events happening in town. It's no wonder why, we got there just at the right time to not have to wait, but I will gladly wait next time. I had "The Baconeer" (1/4 bacon burger) and others in my group had Cheeseburgers. We all shared regular and sweet potato fries. Each of us got a different flavor of "Mile High Shake". The burgers are on fantastic buns, and feature fantastic smokey flavored grilled burgers. Their bacon is not to thick or thin and real crispy. None of this rubbery take-a-bite-and-get-the-whole-strip bacon. The fries were thick and long, and the perfect crisp-on-the-outside-fluffy-on-the-inside. The sweet potato fries were cooked well and had a great flavor to them also. Their shakes are great. Fruit was frozen, but at least it's not the syrup rip-off stuff. Every weekender in McCall should come with AT LEAST one stop here. Well worth your time, and well worth your dollar.

  • Jenna S.

This post is only for their milkshakes since that's all I've had here. I love the fresh strawberry shake!

  • Ryan H.

Very conflicted about this place, several of us had burgers and they were excellent and then my dad had a chicken sandwich and got really bad food poisoning. :(

  • J And S S.

Stopped in for burgers twice while on our honeymoon. Great burgers and chicken sandwiches. Sweet potatoes fries are great too. Next time I am going to try the milkshake.

  • Colin W.

As a burger enthusiast I was happy with the burger. Good fries and excellent milkshake. I would definitely eat there again.

    (4)
  • Ethan S.

A very excellent burger and my favorite fry sauce of all time. It's a little cold out or I would've deafly had one of their milkshakes too, I hear they bring all the boys to the yard

    (5)
  • Jamie K.

A milk shake a must with every visit! The burgers are great, and did you know they have an entire gluten free menu to include fries? The home town hamburger stand atmosphere adds to the already good food. Just a really fun place to have a good ol' hamburger, shake and fries. A must for any visit to McCall.

  • Bob W.

Great find in McCall ID! Stopped on Tuesday around 1 pm. There was a small line out the door. The food was worth the wait. I had the bacon cheese burger, drug thru the garden. My wife had the shroom burger. We split an order of onion rings. Burgers were delicious, nice and juicy. We sat outside at one of the many tables and watched the people going by. Highly recommended!

    (4)
  • Shelly L.

Best burger I've had in a very long time, maybe ever! Fresh, real French fries. Smiling faces by the folks working there! A+experience!

    (5)
  • Brie K.

I always love going to My Father's Place. The food is traditional American food so the burgers and fries are pretty good. I would say it is nothing spectacular. Their milkshakes though? Delicious! I can't leave without getting one every time. The service is usually mediocre- mostly younger high school kids. My only other complaint is that it is small, which is only a problem because it is SO popular. The line is usually always through the door with a 15-20 minute wait!

    (4)
  • Lori P.

Definitely stop here! Hamburgers are awesome, but the real draw are the AMAZING milkshakes. My favorite is the fresh banana milkshake, but they're all good. We cannot visit this town without stopping here. Not cheap, but completely worth it!

    (5)
  • Jen V.

Adorable spot! Be aware that it is called something different on town maps, but I can't remember what at the moment.... Shakes are fantastic - I definitely recommend the seasonal berry one - and the food is equally as delish. I got a chicken sandwich and fries and, as other people have mentioned, their dipping sauce should simply be called awesome sauce! Be sure to check them out for a quick, reasonable meal.

An amazing establishment on multiple levels. First, let me review the intangibles. They've got the super charming lil old fashioned burger stand vibe down pat. The location is prime as they welcome visitors to downtown McCall with a view of Lake Payette (main street of a cute mountain town). If all the seemingly cliche visuals are not enough, they actually deliver an awesome selection of burgers and treats like soft serve and fried everything. If the sun is shining and you have a craving for a good burger and want to be seen MFP is hard to beat.

  • Diamond C.

3.5 stars. Good burger. I got the Jalapo. I forgot to ask about pepperjack instead of the standard cheese. The jalapenos were good but I wish they were a lot more spicy. The bacon was awesome. The bun was good, but nothing exceptional. The burger was good, but nothing special. I wish more places offered bison, yak, etc.

  • Ken W.

Every time I come to McCall I try to make it to this place. I gets pretty busy around holidays and the winter carnival but the wait can be worth it. I usually go with a bacon cheese burger but they have great chicken Alfredo as well. Excellent service and fun/different environment your not going to find in Boise.

    (5)
  • Heather S.

Food was great! Menu is very cool. If you get a chicken burger it is actually a chicken breast and it is NOT dry at all. We had shakes but they were really sweet so know that when ordering. Absolutely would go again.

    (5)
  • Jeren W.

Fabulous place to get an old fashioned burger, fries, and a milkshake. They have a large menu that is filled with great options. The only downside is they are a little spendy for a burger place and they tend to be busy a lot.

    (5)
  • Kevin P.

Went there a second time and the fries were much better tasting to me, and the Baconeer is fantastic. It's still a little on the over priced side in my opinion, but not so much that I wont be back. I fully intend to make this place and The Pancake House my go-to restaurants every time I go to McCall.

  • Rikki R.

How this place doesn't have 5 solid stars just slays me - even though we haven't lived in McCall since 2008, sometimes I have dreams about the strawberry banana milkshakes that I used to get here that came packed with chunks of banana and strawberry. Very friendly service and a great little spot for families or teens even if the tables might get a little messy every now and then. Eat at one of the tables outside and enjoy the view of the lake! :)

Stumbled into MFP at about 5 min. to midnight on a Saturday with friends looking for food. The burgers and rings were great and the PBR was cold. Ate on the patio with everyone else in town that must have been turned down by the ridiculously early closing of every kitchen at every establishment in the town of McCall. Really guys, nobody can keep a kitchen open past 11:00 downtown? Service was friendly and prompt, and the food was tasty. We will be back!

    (4)
  • Brooke W.

Best milkshakes in town! Great atmosphere in the summer with outdoor seating. Super kid friendly, right downtown and within walking distance to most everything. Great prices with it being a tourist town.

    (5)
  • Danny S.

Pretty great shakes. Food is decent but a bit overpriced. It's one if those places that everybody goes when in McCall so the line is usually huge. If you get a shake go peanut butter oreo.

  • Bill A.

Best burgers and ice cream Sundays hands down!

    (5)
  • Michael J.

Nice Chicken Sandwich on a cold Sunday afternoon in March.... A bit expensive, $9 for a chicken sandwich and fries without a drink. But good flavour, and a lot of food. I did get to see them mixing the "fry sauce" in a 5 gallon bucket on the floor behind the counter. It might have been the most disgusting thing I have ever seen in a diner.

  • Nadav K.

The Nut Burger is spectacular!! This is a nutty veggie-burger they make themselves and it's very flavorful. I had to have 2 !

  • Patrick H.

I remember always driving past this place when I was 5 or 6 but never got a chance to eat here. On our week long visit back to McCall this place was jammed every time we drove by. I finally stopped in on my last day in town and was very pleased with the burger I ordered. I didn't get anything else. Just a bacon cheeseburger and it was no disappointment. The bacon was crispy, just the right amount of cheese, and the burger was cooked perfectly. A lot of flavor going on. Bottom line, exactly what you want and expect and a small town burger joint. The price is right as well.

  • Jonathan H.

Great Burgers! After a rigorous hike in McCall, we stopped here for a bite. What a great idea! The entire staff was very friendly and courteous to the large amount of people ordering on this hot summer afternoon. Definitely among the best burger establishments in McCall!

  • Kami L.

Cute little burger stand. Very nice staff and great food. No reason not to go if you're looking for a burger and shake. Aside from meat options, they have homemade veggie/nut patties and while there was only one item with this offered on the menu (with jack cheese, mushrooms, and onions) they were more than happy to substitute a veg patty onto a regular cheeseburger. I was also very impressed and pleased to see that they use wheat buns - away with white bread! The sweet potato fries and dipping condiment were as good as they come. The caramel milkshake was yummy and so thick that they don't even give you a straw - just a spoon. We loved sitting outside in lovely little McCall, watching the world go by as we ate. I highly recommend!

Burgers are awesome. Sweet potatoe fries were awesome. Mint chocolate marshmallow shake was awesome! Love it. Yummy!

This place delivers on some serious Summertime deliciousness. The burgers and shakes here were spectacular. I ordered the Heli-Tac with a blackberry shake. It was huge but couldn't put it down and ate it all. My wife sampled the kids' grilled cheese sandwiches and said they were the best she has ever had. Highly recommend this place.

My wife and I loved this place on our recent visit to McCall. Great shakes and amazing burgers. Very friendly staff also. Best burger you will find in McCall!!

  • Todd C.

This place is so good! The food, the staff... So friendly! Recommended a Pumpkin Pie shake; ugh. Heaven. Really. And thick. It was less a shake than a "Blizzard". Needed a spoon to eat the entire thing. Had the "Jalapo": A jalapeño/bacon cheeseburger. And sweet potato fries. Everything was good. It was great! Get some!

    (5)
  • Stephanie W.

Amazing shakes, delicious veggie nut burger and great chicken sandwiches. All ingredients are fresh - this is no McDonalds. Try the sweet potato fries - best I have had in a long time.

  • Ming-Jou C.

I loved this place and the Whitetail Club where I stayed recommended it. Sometimes you just need a good burger, fries and shake, and this is the place to get it. They make the shakes with real fruit and you can get anything from banana, chocolate, strawberry, and they had a season flavor, boysenberry. Sooo good. The burgers were great and it's just a nice casual place with a few seats and chairs inside and a few tables outside. I had their grilled cheese sandwich and onion rings, too. It was great.

I give five stars for this ideal burgher joint. I always feel like I should have a poodle skirt and a side pony tail when I walk in here. Even though the waitresses are not on roller skates, you will still feel like you have entered the epitome of American cuisine at My Father's Place. If you're looking for a cheap burgher, this is not your stop. If you're looking for a place where a group can gather and snack on fries, treat on shakes or eat big on burghers, then come HERE! Expect to pay around $10 for your meal. My recommendation: the veggie burgher and the sweet potato fries Come to hang out with friends or enjoy a long summer evening in the idyllic town of McCall.

Horrible! Not only is the food a rip off the Owners are horrid! Honestly this place is a JOKE.

Great local favorite. They have a veggie burger, turkey burger and chicken sandwiches as well as your classic beef. Fresh fries, salads, awesome shakes, quick and friendly service. Love it.

  • Jason and Winter N.

Was in town for Winter Carnival last year and couldn't resist My Father's Place. Such delicious (and huge) burgers! Their shakes are also amazing, as are the fries. Lots of veggie burger options too, which is a plus.

Burgers and fries are overrated. Shakes are very good.

  • John B.

Good scenery (hottest in daisy dukes/summertime) & good hours (open till 2 am/summer). Not the best food...........but it was there. Won't find anything open this late for hundreds of miles. Hamburgers shakes French fries and ice cream is what I remember. A little less tasty than a McDonald's.

    (3)
  • Scott M.

My boys Dylan and Owen ate here three days in a row. They loved the burgers and fries the most. The shakes (ice cream) were great and the service was super friendly. They bade-blades were a favorite as well. We loved it!

  • Susan G.

Amazing food and great service! Love it! Take all your friends and family when thay visit! Onion rings are great! Hamburgers melt in your mouth! Love love this place!

  • Shiho F.

What a great name! I had a kiddie soft serve, I don't have much of a sweet-tooth so I should have gotten the fries. I tried the chocolate and cookies and cream shake. Heavely if you are into shakes. Good service.

  • Ed R.

A Nestle machine dispenses hot chocolate with a noisy whir to my wife's disappointment. Burgers, fries, blah, blah. The road to McCall follows a ice and snow covered stream, with mountains of the greenest pines. The town itself has a lake, and mountains, and is quite beautiful.

  • Becky W.

I was craving fries and thought My Father's Place would be a good choice. The fries were OK. I did like that they had sweet potato fries. Where they lacked horribly, was their service. I had my daughter, 2 nieces and nephew with me. The lady that took our order seemed irritated with us. We were visiting McCall and so not familiar with the menu. We ordered the fries to go, but decided to sit outside and eat. I sent my daughter to ask for paper plates. When asked, a different woman behind the counter simply said "NO". Really? I will never give them my money to be rude to my child. I went to high school in a small resort town and understand the frustration with tourists at times, but without tourists, there is no My Father's Place....figure it out.

  • J H.

Burgers, Fries, SHAKES!!! This is a great place to grab a big burger, or one of their famous "Mile-High Shakes."Large deck to soak the sun, right in the heart of McCall this has been around for year's. Try the smokejumper's burger, or maybe even the George Karl burger. Either way, you'll love it.
