Maybe I was here on an off night but there was nothing here worth coming back for! The food was average, asked for my burger medium and it came out charred! Why ask how I want it if you only make it one way? Tried 3 of their beers, Lime, Blond and Stout and they were all a little off! I'm guessing they were 3.2% or less. Smoking is allowed so be prepared for that if you arn't used to it!

We ate here two nights when we were in town for a funeral because we were staying at the Red Lion. I wish I could star things differently....So here we go Beer: 1 Star (maybe). Their brews are AWFUL! My husband and I love craft beer (we even have a blog about it) but the beer here is terrible. We always order the local beer when we visit places that have their own beer, but we made an exception here. The only good part is they do have great guest taps (10 Barrels, Orlison, Georgetown, etc). Food: 4 Stars. We LOVED the burgers (hand formed patties), and the hot wings were good also...but the salad and prime rib dip were pretty average. They also have an excellent kids menu! Service: 4 Stars. Both waitresses we had were great, we just sat with empty glasses a lot because they were super busy on the patio and only had one worker. I really enjoyed the outside seating (but hate that people can smoke out there), the guest beers and the burgers. You also can't beat the location if you are staying at the Red Lion! Cheers!

This place used to be awesome! Then the brewer left and they hired a guy with no experience, it shows. Drink a bottle or can!

Can't believe I'm wasting my data on this...Good beer, okay food (cold but steak was cooked well) worst - worst - worst service ever! The business they enjoy by default being attached to a hotel will only last so long.

Riding bicycles through Lewiston on a 1500 mile tour, stayed at a motel half a block away, so MJ Barleyhoppers was in our gunsight after 75 miles in 100+ heat. We were told by customers already seated that it was "seat yourself" so we did--prominently by another table and in the center. After 20 minutes, no hello, no water, no acknowledgement that we even existed, we left. This place will be either closed or run by a real manager very soon. Please note other reviews that mention beer quality, food quality and service--this is not their fist downer.

Food was good, service and was decent, beer was nasty! Good place to go if you want to watch a football game and have a bud light...

I wanted to go to BJ Barleyhoppers because I was told it is a brew-pub... it isn't like a brew-pub in Portland or the Seattle area. It's more of a sports bar that's attempting to be a brew-pub. They do boast about their brewed beers: if you are a beer aficionado, you will not be happy. Fortunately, they do have "guest taps" and a great bar. My friends ordered the Bite-size steak dinner and both complained about how tough the meat was, so neither finished their meals. Fortunately, I ordered the Pizza Burger, which was very good: I'd order it again. It was a Thursday and a live band was playing outside and not too noisy inside the bar area. There was a good crowd and the service was OK. The décor is what you'd expect for a nice sport bar and it is non-smoking. I'll definitely give it another try on a Sunday for NFL football. So as a sports bar: thumbs up. Brew-pub: thumbs down.

What can I say about this place. I am a beer person and the price cant be beaten. I go here and hang out with my buddies when I am in town for a few days. When I compare the $5 micro brew in Seattle to this place which I think is a $1 during happy hour its a hell of deal.

I was in Lewiston for a weekend and ended up at BarleyHoppers both nights! I guess it is a restaurant during the day and a club at night. The place has a big dance floor, plenty of tables and a big outdoor sitting area. It seems to be the popular spot for nightlife in Lewiston. They had a DJ playing a hiphop pop music mix that kept the dance floor full all night. It was pretty easy to get drinks. The place was packed with a bunch of Lewistonians drinking, dancing and having a good time. If I lived in Lewsiton, I am pretty much sure I would go here every weekend!

Now that Barleys has taken the high road in regards to not being considered a "dance club" and has transitioned to being a "Sports Bar" I am a bigger fan. They have NIXED smoking inside, added more pool tables and more TVs. The food is your typical LC Valley cuisine...pasta, steak, chicken. Nothing fabulous, but, still decent. Hopefully they still do the Blues & Brews over the summer.

This brewery has been going downhill since their head brewmaster left. Lately, it seems like more and more of their beers have a similar, vinegary off-taste. The porter was okay, but the dunkelweizen was terrible; same vinegary profile. To add insult to injury, I had an unauthorized charge after a purchase the last time I was in (which will be the last time I will go in): they apparently decided to add a $6 tip to a $10 purchase without my authorization.

A group of us went here for my friend's bachelorette party dinner. No, we were not rowdy and loud and drunk and annoying...much. The waitstaff was nice, no problems there. We sat on the deck outside and it was nice out there. There was a live band playing that night, which was very cool. The band joked around with us and announced that my friend was getting married and wished her the best and such. The only thing I didn't care for much was the bathroom situation. A friend and I walked into the restaurant to go to the bathroom. We walk all the way across the room with the bartender/bouncer/whatever he was watching us. When we finally get to the actual bathroom door, he comes after us and announces that we cannot use the bathroom. Um, what? Apparently the entire indoor part of the restaurant is 21+, and since I'm underage, I'm not even allowed to use the bathroom. Yeah, someone actually asked to see my ID to use a toilet. I understand that they have to enforce the law and whatnot, it was just annoying that I had to troop through an adjacent restaurant and hotel to use some bathroom in a random lobby. That seems like a bit overkill. But anyway, the food itself was just mediocre. My fish and chips were rather boring and expensive for the little and tasteless portions I received. Everyone else seemed rather indifferent about their food, as well. Basically? The 2 stars MJ's receives from me is purely for the nice outdoor patio and the friendly band. Eh.

I've only been here a few times but I'll be back many more. I tried the Huckleberry Hef and oh... is it a Little piece of heaven. The staff was wonderful and very friendly making the whole package a great experience.

The beer here is awesome. Im from Seattle so we have a good selection of craft beers. I'm usually not that impressed with other areas beers. This place is comparable to Seattle brews. If you order the beer sampler be warned it is about 10 half full glasses if samples so don't plan on driving for a while.

We had a great time at this place. It's a brew pub, but the beer was really tasty. The people in there were really cool. Andrea was our waitress. She was the best. Check it out. Worth the drive from Pullman or Moscow.

M.J. Barleyhoppers is the bar in the Red Lion Hotel in the smallish town (32,000) of Lewiston, Idaho. It's the first brewpub I've visited within a hotel, unless you count Triple 7's in Main Street Station in Las Vegas. But since that's a casino first and foremost, I don't count it. Anyways, everything about the place is average. It's nice, don't get me wrong, but nothing stands out. Other than the fact there were a few nice televisions for sports, some nice deep, dark wood and a big patio, absolutely nothing stands out in my mind. Again, nothing stands out with the food, but nothing is bad either. I had the sirloin steak bites, marinated and glazed in a teriyaki sauce. There wasn't any marinating done that I could discern, and the teriyaki was nothing more than a glorified sweet and sour. The sweet potato fries that came with it were among the better version I've tried, but they could use a special zippy dipping sauce. The one thing I will say, however, is that the homemade peach cobbler with a dollop of vanilla ice cream was quite tasty. Nothing stood out with the beer, either. See a trend coming? In fact, everything was below average. The Weiss was nothing more than a Budweiser, and the Huckleberry Weiss nothing more than a Michelob Ultra fruited light beer. The Summer Citrus, with just a hint of acidity, was probably most drinkable beer, but that's not saying much. The Pale was actually adequately hoppy (a.k.a. bitter) but lacked much of the flavor and aroma associated with a well-balanced pale. The rest of the beers ranging from a red to a brown to a stout and maibock were so unremarkable that I can't even remember enough about them to make remarks.

This little brewpub has the best beers I know of that you can find in the valley. It's best beers are the dark ones (porter, stout, dark ale), so if you only try the lighter stuff or huckleberry I would say you missed out. The bar was remodeled not too long ago so it is a comfortable place to sit down and watch sports or sportscenter. While it is neighboring and below a hotel, it has it's own entrance so it's not like it is a hotel lobby bar. The price of the pints is pretty inexpensive for micro brews and I don't know of anywhere else in the area with beer this good.
