Classic example of a job well done. Fun atmosphere, staff was super helpful but not overbearing, and great simple diner food. While we were eating, a man (I think he may be the busser) was doing his thing and as a older gentleman got up to leave he called him by name and then walked him across the street to the bus stop. Something you don't see everyday and thought it was really awesome. All staff was AWESOME and knew their stuff. I am not sure about the other reviews. If you are looking for a big menu and extravagant food, don't go to a diner to eat. Definitely will be back again. Oh yeah and the music is on point.

We love this place! We moved out of state for a few years and would always dream of their breakfast and going back. Now that we are back we've been a few times. Portions are huge and they're the best breakfast in town. Plus I love keeping it local and not giving business to a nation food chain!!!

I have been in here several times over the past year. It just keeps getting worse and worse. I was in here this evening and because of that I will probably never eat deep-fried food again. I ordered a burger served on sourdough bread with tater tots. The tots were soaked in grease; I can still taste it, two hours later. The bread was supposed to be toasted. It was not. It was grilled, adding yet another quart of grease to the meal and I am sure my gallbladder is still working overtime. The presentation sucked. It was all just plopped on the plate with the tots rolling-around like marbles on a gymnasium floor ... no garnish of any kind ... even a piece of iceberg lettuce and a slice-o-tomato would have livened-up the plate. No class. The burger was prefabricated ... that is to say ... clearly not made on the premises, thin as can be and nearly tasteless. Yes, there are cute waitresses ... clearly hired for their gams ... rolling around on roller skates. Who cares? I'd rather have a good meal served by a woman in a burka than a bad meal served by a babe on roller skates. However, if you want a little cheesecake with your cheeseburger, this is the place for you. I have given this place many a try. I am done ... never to return ... there is something tawdry about the whole "scene" in there. It certainly is not ABOUT good food.

What happened Rockies? We lived next to this place a decade ago, and were regulars. My son wanted to go for his birthday, 6 of us went. The food was so bad no one finished their food. One person sent theirs back but the next plate was so bad we all decided to cut our loses and leave. Really bummed this use to be one of the better places for dinner food. My guess is if they don't focus on turning around the food quality soon, it will close their doors.

Rockies burned my company for $8500.00 . As well as other company's as well. Just google Rockies and find out for yourself.

I love this diner. If you are looking for simple quick diner food (cheeseburger, hot dog, fries, or breakfast) this is a great place to go. Service has always been super quick, food is good, and affordable. The staff is very pleasant and seem happy to work there. The decor takes you back with vintage red and white diner tables, waitresses on rollerskates, and Elvis on a motorcycle. There really is an actual motorcycle in the middle of the diner. The negative reviewers must not have gone in with realistic expectations. As the name, the menu, and the decor so obviously points out this is a diner and a darn good one!

The kids like this place because the waitresses wear roller skates and the decor includes Harley's hanging from the ceiling. The food is less than mediocre but the servers are friendly. One thing I won't abide is non-dairy creamer and other chemical food substitutes served to customers to make a few extra dimes. This place is full of that sort of thing. This was probably my last visit to Rockies.

I doubt if Adam Richman from Man vs. Food is returning here anytime soon. This used to be a decent place but no more. At least not last night. The chicken and vegetable soup contained enough salt to form a salt lick if the liquid had been removed. The waitress took it back and basically watered it down to make it semi-eatable. The dinner salads were about as insipid as possible. Iceberg lettuce and a few other things thrown onto a dessert plate. I've never heard of finger steaks served with barbecue sauce, but that's how they were doing it at Rockie's. No cocktail sauce in sight. The finger steaks were tough and overcooked and had little flavor. The onion rings were likewise dry and overcooked. One of the servers did apologize for not having a shaker of salt on the table -- that would have at least given the finger steaks and onion rings some flavor. The waitress did subtract a dollar from the bill for the lousy experience. Out of 101 Yelp reviews, this is only the second time I've rated a restaurant with just a single star. It was that bad at a place, again, that used to be pretty good.

I came here for the first time with high hopes. My family just raved about it. The service was good but the food was definitely not. Everything was barely warm and seriously tasted like a TV dinner that needed to be nuked longer. It's very hard to make bad mashed potatoes but yes, it can be done. Very disappointed and will not be returning.

Visited this place twice. Both times the food was good and staff was awesome. Nothing jumped out at me to rate it 5 stars

So, I took my dad there a week ago. We like to try new restaurants. This one had great reviews from people who clearly smoked too much and had no taste buds left in their head. The food was awful. The service was mediocre, at best. The servers just reached the "friendly" threshold. My dad had their famous open-faced chili cheeseburger. He said that chili tasted like tomato sauce. It looked like it was straight out of a can. We won't be going back.

I go to Boise once every couple months to visit family, I usually eat at grandma's house, yum. I've eaten at the burger place shown on ddd once and it was great, so decided to try a man vs food place. Food was very average, fries were cold (strange for a diner) and you can get the same pre made patties at any decent fast food franchise. Service was pretty poor, nothing offered for our kids to do while we wait for our food, (cup of crayons and a piece of paper go a long way with parents, and the people sitting next to kids). When the girl was at our table she was nice enough and certainly dressed to get tips, but was rarely there, soda was empty two different times for quite a while, the bus boy filled it once. Girlfriend had something floating in her soda. Waitress forgot my side of mayo. With all the other places to eat in Boise I don't see this place staying afloat if the food doesn't improve and the waitresses get trained better. Long legs will only get you so far, Bottom line- gave it one try, not going back.

My wife ordered a steak from the menu and they didn't have it. Then they came back later stating they did have it. When we asked for A1 sauce for the steak they didn't have any. One gentleman was nice enough to go buy a SMALL bottle of steak sauce for her. They should be more prepared and my God was just warm. It wasn't even hot.

This place used to be fantastic. This was once my favorite restaurant in town. I used to go in every Friday night. Back then there was an Elvis impersonator on Fridays. The food used to be delicious and come in big portions for the price. The last few times I've gone in, the prices are higher, and the portions lower. The burgers are quite obviously pre-made pattys... and not the good ones either. The really thin, disgusting ones. I ordered one and it came with tots. Six tots to be exact. They brought me SIX TOTS. I used to go and order the finger steaks which would come on a heaping plate full of food. Now, it's barely a handful. And the music... the last time I went in, they were playing Beyonce. It's a 50s diner. I go there for the 50s experience. I don't want to hear top 40. Sorely disappointed in the downturn this place has taken.

I came here to try the Johnnie B Good Challenge as promoted and demonstrated on Man v. Food. We were immediately greeted by a girl wearing hot pants. She nearly ran us over with her skates. Did not remember that they skate around in the restaurant like that. Be forewarned! We ordered only one of the challenge as this was not a true challenge. Food tasted delicious. Everything was cooked just right. Hanburger was nice and moist. Chili was flavorful. Cheese was nice and gooey. Milkshakes were phenomenal! This is not something I would drive out of my way for, but it is still worth it for the challenge. The three stars is more for the menu. The service was five stars. The staff and owner chatted with everyone. It felt like a true small town diner. Food was great. Fun atmosphere. Seeing how we were driving through and always looking for local foof and flavor, this would not be our first choice had it not been their food challenge. Still...if you are ever in Boise, stop by. Nothing beats a good old hamburger and fries jamming to Elvis...and with. He sits above on the ceiling. Be careful of that as well.

If you want basic diner fare, it's alright for that. Sadly the cheap gimmick of girls in less than mini skirts on skates attract people, their food doesn't. The malts are terrible, shakes subpar at best and burgers are okay. If you want cheap food served by cheap looking servers this is the place.

Have been before..but won't go again.. Cute and professional waitress won't override the less than adequate meal.. Dinner salad served with brown lettuce (chef blamed Sysco and himself).. Club sandwich was made with the heel end of the bread.. turned inside so you wouldn't notice.. Fries were meaty not crispy and malt was nasty with some sort of sicknenly sweet syrup.. Plenty of other choices of places to go.. Perhaps they've had their heyday.. Perhaps they need some managerial oversight.

Went there for breakfast to try it out and their prices online were reasonable but their serving sizes are not that great. Will probably not go again.

Great food! My husband and I love the food. Quick and delicious! Service can be very iffy depending on your waitress. Some are okay but most are inattentive and super slow with refills- or you have to catch and ask someone else because no one has come by your table to check on you.

I've been coming here since it opened in the 90s back when the food was awesome and the music was good. Back when we used to get a basket full of fries. Nowadays I usually come for the convince and wish I didn't afterwards. Service was a star (many years ago I had a drink spilled on me) the food was eatable. Sometimes, if I want a greasy burger I will drive over to Bad Boys on on Vista...same food by the same owner.

  • Callum S.

I love the decor and the staff. But the food is sort of "meh". It doesn't make me want to eat there again. The burger I got was over the top greasy and the patty was sort of tiny. I just wasn't impressed.

Fun decor, service prompt and friendly, waitresses on skates very cool and definitely popular with the local crowd. However, the quality of the food was lousy as well as the coffee. Wish I'd been able to bring in a McDonald's breakfast and just take in the scene.

I'm really not sure about Rockie's Diner. I've been three or four times, thinking it has to get better, and each time I wonder what is up with their hamburger meat? I've had the various burgers they offer and it's something with the taste of the ground beef. The seasonings they use? The char-broiler? The supplier? I can't quite put my finger on it. It's a cool atmosphere. The waitresses are friendly and attentive. But it's about the food. And the food just doesn't cut it.

The service is terrible here!!! I took my brother here when he came into town. Our waitress seated us and asked us for our drinks. Before she brought them out she seated another family and obviously knew them because she started gabbing away and didn't even give us menus. We sat for 5 more minutes then got up and left! I was a waitress for 3 years, and at least get them their drinks and a menu! I went back one more time with my friends for breakfast thinking I'd have a better experience. Ordered biscuits and gravy with coffee. Coffee was good. The biscuits and gravy were runny and cold. The atmosphere is the only thing this diner has going for it. Go to Raedean's down the street for good diner food or Big Bun for a good burger. Stay away from Rocky's!

Good food, and great service! The food is good, and served fast and hot. If you want small portions that is presented with decorations go somewhere else. If you want big portions of good food, that leave no area on the platter for fancy squiggles of 'art', come to Rockies.

Visited Rockies for the first time in several years and am sorry we wasted our time. Economy must have hit them hard as the burgers are now pathetic paper thin tasteless patties. What happened to their old decent hamburger??? Fries aren't what they used to be either. Fairly tasteless and greasy. Dinner salad looked liked they had ripped a quarter head of lettuce off by hand then chopped it a few times before throwing on some day old cheese and carrots and some CHEAP tasteless italian dressing. Needless to say, stomach was not happy all night! What used to be fun with the family is now not worth visiting even if it is the last place open in town when you are hungry. Drink water instead!!! I will be surprised if they make it to the end of this year!

As far as nostalgia goes. This place is great. The decor rocks from the past. That is where it stops. Food barely warm, lacking any kind of taste. Service a little below average. Cops seem to like going there. Maybe they get a discount. Won't go back.

I'm a huge fan of Man vs Wild so when I saw Rockies Diner on the show I just had to try it. Fair warning though, this place wasn't as fun or loud as the show perceived it to be. I enjoyed their decor and their fun way of serving their costumers on roller-skates. The food here was alright. I think it was more the environment that makes eating their "alright" burgers more enjoyable. However, I love their signature sauce. It reminds me of the In-N-Out sauce. If you want a nice change from your regular fast food joints, I say check out Rockies.

Someone at our hotel said this was a cool place, so on prompting from my colleague (who saw it on Man vs. Food) I went there. We were expecting a hoppin' place but it seemed sad and run down with an Elvis mannequin on a motorcycle hanging from the ceiling and guitars sticking out of it. There was an old guy in a booth spinning 50's music, which is the only redeeming quality and why I'm giving it 2 stars. Menu: basically greasy burger with any number of toppings. My colleague had the Chili Burger served open face. The fries looked good and the waitress recommended the fry sauce. After tasting it, I surmised that it was basically Mayo, Ketchup and Pickle Relish all mixed up in a squirt bottle. Not very creative. Anyhow, the burgers didn't look appetizing to me, so I ordered a Zorba Burger which looked good on paper - Gyro meat on a bun with lettuce, tomato and Tzatziki sauce. When it arrived I counted 3 , yes THREE, paper-thin slices of gyro meat which resembled and tasted like Baloney. I was very hungry so I choked down as much as I could. In contrast, the Fried Zucchini I ordered instead of fries were very good. In summary, a poor excuse for a diner, even though it is a '50's theme restaurant. Save your money and go to Donnie Macs instead.

If you're into long legs on roller skates, guitars exploding from the ceiling (there are like 8 of them) and very mediocre food then this is your place. PROS The service is fast (waitresses zip around on roller skates) and the table turn is pretty fast and there is rarely a wait. There is always something to look at (even if it's staring out the window at Overland or just waiting for one of the newer waitresses to eat it on the ramp). CONS The food. I've had an undercooked chicken sandwich (stay away from the chicken) and fries that tasted like the cooking oil was from 1950. The breakfast meats are teeny-tiny and everything sort of tastes like it was cooked on the same grill. The menu is inventive only in the number of things they'll throw on a burger (i seem to remember a burger with onion rings, chili, bacon, hot dogs and ham on it...I could be wrong). In general, the food is bland, unimaginative, low quality, undercooked, over-salted and homogeneous. While it is cheap, i'd skip it.

A friend of mine became a vegetarian after eating a meat dish there. I'm not sure anything else needs to be said after that, but I'll offer my experience upon going there one Sunday night when nothing else in the area seemed open. Caroline P. described the decor well-- horrible and tacky. I actually found it kind of sad, too. Especially when our DJ got in his tiny booth and started doing his 50's DJ schtick in front of maybe 7 or 8 customers. The place had the aura of a rundown Johnny Rockets restaurant. Our waitress was interrupting our meal nearly every minute at first. Perhaps sensing this, she pulled back, unfortunately to the point where we couldn't get a hold of her to pay the bill despite having so few people in there. I had a steak special with crusty bread and stale vegetables. This was sub-diner food, the kind of order you'd expect right at closing time when the cooks really want to clean up and hurriedly trot out some leftovers so you're no longer a burden. Right when I went out the door, the meal hit me like a ton of lead and just thudded into my gut, providing unpleasantness for hours. Diner food does not usually give me problems. The overall experience was horrid. I was curious about how bad a place could be that could turn someone into a vegetarian, and I paid the price for it. If you want an old-time fix, get some sweets at Goody's or Moon's and head to the drive-in theater in Caldwell or Parma.

Rockie's is a 50's diner that is a place of the past in Boise... literally. Yes, Man vs. Food was there. However, I live about two blocks away and have given more of my gas and food money to that place than is necessary. Just because the food is delivered on roller skates doesn't mean it tastes good. Unfortunately, Rockies lacks flavor, consistency and style. Most of the time your food will arrive looking sloppy and tastes about the same.. It almost makes me bad for saying so, but you should probably go elsewhere.

The bugers and shakes are okay, and the breakfast is pretty good. The plus: it's a 50's themed diner and the girls are on roller skates! The service is quick and friendly.

Cool place, lots of '50's nostalgia, service was good and fast. We had burgers and a club sandwich and they were all great. I would go back when in the area.

If you're in the mood for diner food, you might as well go to Rockies. The waitresses skate around the room, up and down ramps carrying trays with plates of burgers and fries. The decorations are horrible and tacky, like an over-embellished cartoon version of an authentic 1950's diner. Lots of cliche 50's music plays in the background. The food is not memorable...burgers and fries, but it's a diner. What were you really expecting anyway? A good stop if you are hungover and want a big greasy brunch.

Boy, this place sure has gone downhill. I hadn't been to Rockies for awhile, so when my son got out of the hospital, we went to Rockies for a welcome home dinner. On a positive note, the decor is fun and the waitresses are friendly. Unfortunately, friendly doesn't compensate for bad, basic, waitressing skills. I cut our server a small break (after she failed to bring us, or even ask us if we would like a high chair for my daughter's 6 month old baby, and even when she tried to convince me that the salsa she had given me for my shrimp was cocktail sauce) because I figured she was new. Things went from bad service, to being a bit frightened of the food. My daughter found "things" floating in her water and her brother's water. After getting clean(er) water, I was then disturbed by the way the Heinz ketchup ran out of the bottle. Heinz ketchup is thick, and should come out nice and slow, NOT runny. This ketchup had obviously been diluted. Not cool. Halfway through the meal, we got a new waitress. She was friendly too, but stubbornly (or obliviously) refused to take away ANY of the dirty dishes, even after I stacked them up(so we had room to eat our sundaes, which tasted like it was made with ice milk, and what kind of restaurant serves ice cream sundaes, but doesn't have chopped nuts and cherries....really?) and positioned them at the end of the table. In weary exhaustion, I asked the busboy to take them away.As a former waitress, I have never seen such a lack of just basic serving skills...maybe knowing how to roller skate is the only requirement for the job...in which case they were outstanding. Sad to see such a fun little place go down the tubes. P.S. On another positive note, the old-school video games were AWESOME!

We've been to Rockies several times, gluttons for punishment I guess. Actually, the burgers I have had have all been satisfactory or better. We ended up there on a Saturday night with family after our first choice place was too cramped, and we didn't care to wait. Rockies was busy, but the six of us were seated right away at one of their large tables. The DJ was on duty, and he added a fun touch to the place, trivia contests and such. Most of the burgers on the table got finished. The chili burger is a sight to see, by the way. My daughter took one bite of a spicy chicken sandwich and threw in the towel. She said it tasted like Tabasco sauce. My wife made it half way through the sourdough burger before the grease got the best of her. Strangely, the last time we were they delivered the same wrong milkshake to my bride. The kids enjoyed the 80s video games in entry way. Elvis has left the building and so have we.

Fun decor, service prompt and friendly, waitresses on skates very cool and definitely popular with the local crowd. However, the quality of the food was lousy as well as the coffee. Wish I'd been able to bring in a McDonald's breakfast and just take in the scene.

I love the decor and the staff. But the food is sort of "meh". It doesn't make me want to eat there again. The burger I got was over the top greasy and the patty was sort of tiny. I just wasn't impressed.
