The new owner has shown to be a stand up guy. He adjusted his staff due to customer complaints and now Moons run smooth again. The food is hard to beat and will continue to be a place my family and I enjoy!

A 13 hour car drive leaves me in utter silence. I'm hungry it's 10am. I stumbled across Moon's Kitchen cafe on Yelp home of the Guinness Milkshake. They post their menu online and all i see screaming at me is CORNED BEEF HASH with the words engraved "Not the stuff in the Can". I went hear a total of 3 times throughout the weekend and it really is the waitresses that make this place comforting. Our group also had the french fries. The waitress had a good laugh ad we all moaned. "We've never tasted anything like this". Real potatoes. Thank you Moon's =)

Since writing the first review of Moon's, I have been contacted by management of the establishment. They have been very courteous and helpful in regards to working things out in a way beneficial to all involved and taking steps to assure my experience is not repeated by anyone else. The management clearly cares deeply about the business and its reputation. At this time, I have to say: especially if you are like me and must have vegetarian options, Moon's is a great option in Boise. I believe future service will be friendly and timely.

The was our fourth visit to Moon's and was the worst dining experience we have ever had. Our server started out strong until we were missing 3 of our party for less than 10 minutes. I would have understand except the restaurant was empty. The empty restaurant should have been our cue to leave. Once we were all there and ready to order she was clearly mad at us for wasting her time. When we received our order they brought out the wrong food to our ten year old. We never realized and then they got mad at us that he kept it and ate it. The eggs benedict that one in our party received had hard boiled eggs. When the waitress saw her response was well they are still yummy. The worst part of the experience came when my husband took everyones checks up to the register. My mothers bill had $2.00 change coming, she couldn't believe that she should have to give anything back. She actually asked if we were not going to leave a gratuity and then asked another server in front of the whole restaurant if she could believe that we wanted change. Then got in a screaming match with my husband. He told her after that she should not expect a tip from anyone at the table. So for the first time ever we stiffed a server. The funny thing is that one person had agreed to leave the whole tip so we were getting change for my mother. We were planning to leave the tip and we always tip well having been servers ourselves, The food was basic and average. The location is great.

When strolling downtown during Saturday Market, it's not out of the ordinary to get a strong pang of hunger from smelling all the different vendor's creations on the streets... Somewhere I had not been since they moved locations and switched owners was Moons, so we sauntered in, not expecting live music and an absolutely jam packed breakfast joint! Let's be honest, it DOES have more seating than cramped ol' Goldy's down the street which was why we decided to forgo Goldy's and try something new. Plus Tay had never been to this Boise staple breakfast spot! Nostalgia hits you like a ton of bricks whe you walk through the door... you see a counter and old diner style bar seating like the old place and you just feel welcome. The integrity of the old place was kept but a new element is added that I can't put my finger on, but believe me, it's positive! Instead of waiting for a table we plopped down at the bar (closest to the door) because there was a guy playing his harmonica and guitar, croning away trying to make a couple bucks. For the life of me, I can't remember what his name was... but we clapped, tipped and enjoyed a LESS greasy (than I remember from years ago), very memorable breakfast at the new and improved Moons! I had the veggie omelet with potatoes and Tay had french toast. Wasn't too spendy and felt like I got my money's worth after a great meal, plus song and dance! We will return. Moons has restored my faith in old time breakfast places!

Food Hit the spot. Classic breakfast items on menu. Food wasn't steaming hot when it came out. The breakfast potatoes are nothing special. Place was able to sit us right down. Overall it was a good experience.

Two-and-a-half stars, but for an official rating downgraded to two stars for partaking in one of the most annoying marketing ploys that should die a painful death-- using the "world famous" line. In every midsized-to-major city, you can count on there being at least one place that has had a long and storied history where patrons who have been going back for years will continue to return to no matter how bad the food gets. A few people that I know that used to go to Moon's a lot during their younger years have taken me there and described Moon's as such. I have no such history with the place, so I can be objective in saying that the food here is overpriced, average diner fare. No big whoop. If I was blindfolded and told I was at Denny's, I'd believe it. Or at least until I got the bill. If anything has the potential to go above average for you, I think their reuben can do it. Not that monstrosity reuben that they sell, but the regular reuben. The shakes? Yes, they are quite good, and I will continue to go back for them and probably just them. The Guinness milkshake is.......interesting. Which leads me back to the "world famous" moniker. Saying these shakes are world famous would lead me to believe that a) these shakes are in an elite class and b) they're actually known the world over. Spago for example, or any restaurant run by Wolfgang Puck, is probably one of the very few places that can truly claim being world famous. But a milkshake in Idaho? I looked at Moon's website and tried to Google any information as to why anyone outside of the valley would know what a Moon's shake is. Nothing. So we're left with the quality of the shake. Quite good? Yes. Elite? Not even close. Either they have delusions of grandeur like the other 99% of restaurants that use that claim, or it's just another tawdry example of using that cheap gimmick to try and lure people in.

My friend and I went here the other day to try their milkshakes. The atmosphere was great. I loved the fact that they had oldies posters around as well as pics of kids that had been in their cafe. It wasn't busy so as soon we walked in the waitress gave us glasses of water and menus. I ordered a mocha milkshake topped with whipped cream which reminded me of Starbucks, but in a good way of course. I have yet to try the meals there soon =]

Moon's is fantastic. Their breakfasts are great, as are their lunchs. Has a very eclectic ambiance which is perfect for downtown boise. The service is always great and on sundays (possibly other days, i just get breakfast there sundays) they have great musicians play which adds to the "north end" feeling of the place. The perfect play for a sunday morning.

This is a funky little place to eat. I've only had breakfast here, and it was typical greasy diner food. They are known for their milkshakes, but since I've never tried them I can't tell you how good or bad they are. Some might call the decor of this place charming, but I honestly don't know what to think of it. You'll just have to decide for yourself.

Visited at 10:30 on 10 April. Was encouraged to try something new based on the reviews here and the upbeat website of Moon's. The experience was less than positive from the moment we stepped in the door. Yes, the place was busy that doesn't excuse bad manners from the 'hostess'. Our party had two people, a party of 11 came in right behind us and she just assumed we were all together. She became flustered when the head of the other party started saying that they would sit in the hallway while we told her we were a party of two. She left with the head of the large party to check out the hallway. After about 6 minutes a few tables cleared. Did we get seated? No. They took two 4-person tables and two 2-person tables and seated the party of 11! Of course there were no more empty tables. We told her we would wait for a table and she dashed off. I was about to say something about seating the large group first when a couple that came in behind us motioned that a table by the window looked about done and we went to wait by that table while it was bussed. The waitress was pretty quick with menus and got us coffee. After a little bit longer than an acceptable wait, she took our order and said she would be right back with coffee refills. My wife ordered the corned beef hash with country potatoes and wheat toast, and I the amigo omelette with country potatoes (crispy) and sourdough toast. We ordered a single "Lumberjack" hotcake to share. 10 minutes go by and no coffee refill and she isn't paying any attention our way and isn't getting the hint when we raise our coffee cups when she does glance our way. We finally had to get up and go to the bar to get refills. Food arrived 22 minutes later (about 30 minutes from when we ordered). Meanwhile our dear waitress never stopped by once to refill coffee. When the food arrived I wasn't impressed. The "toast" was little more than soggy warmed bread with a light smear of butter. They did get my potatoes crispy but the amigo was a bit smaller than expected. My wifes over easy eggs looked great but the corned beef looked a bit greasy. Besides being a bit on the cold side, my omelette was supposed to have salsa which wasn't present. I thought maybe it was inside (as the menu suggested). If there were bell peppers in this there could not have been more than a tablespoon. The omelette was overcooked (tough) and bland. From the menu description I was expecting a taste explosion of sausage and onion and peppers and salsa. The lumberjack hotcake was plate size but only about 1/8 thick. It was doughy and had the consistency of a crepe not a hotcake. My wifes "this ain't hash from a can" was thin, tiny squares of corned beef. Really... convince me that your cook can cut up 1/4 x 3/8 squares that are 1/16 inch thick! About halfway through the meal, the waitress stopped by and asked how everything was. My reply "It's okay" shocked her. She replied "Really, it's just okay?". When I mentioned the missing salsa she said that it came separately and you have to ask for it. I told her the menu says that it is included, why would I have to ask for it separately? Her response that "That's just they way we do it" wasn't encouraging . She did offer to bring some out but with half the meal gone it wasn't worth it. Until it was check time, that was the last we saw of our waitress but several other staff did come by with coffee refills. So, I've had better service and better tasting breakfast in Boise. I would not recommend Moon's unless you want to go just for the nostalgia decor.

This place is one of the most over-hyped joints in Boise. It has been voted "Best of Boise" in the local events mag. They claim to have "world famous" milkshakes. You had better have one kick-ass milkshake to make that kind of boast. Let's start off by saying their milkshakes are OK, nothing special. My wife didn't even finish it. Wife and I went here twice and had breakfast. The food is about a C+ and we had to wait a little while to get it. I thought about trying a hamburger the second time, but noticed the obligatory frozen pre-formed patties visible in the freezer. No thanks. Second time I got the pot roast. The meat was good and plentiful, but the potatoes and gravy were lackluster. Not much to say about the breakfasts, C+ like I said before. The decor is charming (unique?) the first time you go in, and maybe for guests you might take here to visit the city. But what you really get is a 50 year old diner, literally, everything is cheap, beat up, dirty and grease-laden, and half-ass constructed. Seems like it's out of pure laziness, than some effort to present 50's style or charm. And the bathroom? There is no 50's charm to that awful festering sore of a room. Absolutely no excuse to have such a filthy rotting corpse of a horror. Almost unusable. There was a dude playing guitar both times, but after a while every song just sounded the same, a drone of strumming chords. If you check out their website it says, "You're invited to our NEW and IMPROVED gift shop." Now that is a hilarious joke. They are in fact closing down the gift shop, a gift shop that consists of piles of WAY WAY overpriced useless bric-a-brac, curios, junk and cheap, unappealing novelties. Conclusion: Go here once just to see what all the fuss is about. But if you want excellent breakfasts in a great atmosphere, clean environment and great prices, visit La Vie En Rose or Goldy's.

I love the breakfast here! Overall the service is great. However, I came in a large group once and our service was terrible. Our server was hardly friendly, my food and bill were incorrect and in large groups there is automatic 18% gratuity included in your bills. She charged me extras on my sandwich for things that, according to my menu, already come on it? I really just got the vibe that since the gratuity was guaranteed, she didn't even try. I've been here several times and this was my only bad experience- I will definitely still return!

I got a chicken fried porkchop, covered in grave, hash browns, and two eggs over medium. This was a fairly large breakfast. It was a little on the salty side, and totally delicous. My gluten free companion like that they had lots of gluten free options.

The 4 stars is for the love of Moon's. As a Boise High grad, I have loved Moon's for a long time. The burgers, the shakes, the breakfast burritos; these are my jam. Boise downtown moons; the service is top notch and if I was writing this review on downtown alone it would be 5 stars, no doubt. However, I experienced the fairview location today and it was disappointing. The actual food was fine, but the service was not great. The hostess had to set a table for 14, on her own including wiping down and rearranging the furniture. So due to that curveball out party of 4 was standing there looking at all the open tables. Finally a waitress realized her hostess was busy and sat us. Our first check in from our waitress took 10 minutes and more of the same throughout the meal. I LOVE Moon's. The service from downtown should be mirrored at Fairview.

Moons has relocated to a Fairview address and seems to have left the quality and cleanliness behind. This was a disappointing breakfast in so many ways. I went here with wife and son... All of our meals were luke warm to cold. Sons pancake would not even allow the butter to be spread and when a seven year old complains that the syrup is too sweet it is a huge indication of cheap corn syrup. My rancheros were horridly prepared, bland cold and stale tortillas. The waitress was slow, wearing a shirt that did not appear to have been laundered in days and reeked of cigarettes. Bottom line is that I will never be back ... Another Boise landmark down the tubes.

Really sad. Moon's opened a place on Fairview. Service slow. Food was sad. Potatoes weren't cooked, barely any hollandaise on the cali bene. Eggs were hard to compensate for the partially raw, barely warmed potatoes. Gave the server three chances to apologize or offer something for the returned half touched plate, but got nothing. Will never be going back. Not how I recall Moon's downtown every being.

Being a vegetarian I have a thing about restaurants serving bland Boca burgers and charging me $6 and up. Luckily for Moon's that wasn't the case. Veggie burger was excellent; tasty, perfectly cooked and paired with a big pile of fries. Fries are good, but not great. Fresh, but slightly undercooked and stuck together. Probably aren't blanched long enough before frying. Good milkshake which I watched the waitress hand make. My service was great and the waitress very attentive. Pretty expensive for a solo lunch, but most of that was the unnecessary, but totally worth it, milkshake.

My husband and I ate here today. I ordered the BLT with avocado-it was so delicious! My husband ordered the chili cheese hamburger-the portion was huge! The best thing about this cafe is the French fries! These are homemade fries that are so delicious. We didn't get a milkshake because we couldn't eat another bite. They looked so good! Next time we will get one meal and share a shake.

After being informed that Moon's had changed locations as well as chefs, I decided to give the joint another shot. I'm very glad I did! The new location is darling with décor that is eclectic and lovely and lends to a very all-American diner feel. The service is still as friendly as ever. The food, however, has improved dramatically. I ordered their breakfast burrito with a side of hash-browns. The browns were crispy and everything that hash-browns ought to be; the burrito was meaty and delicious with just the right amount of heat in the salsa. The coffee was hot and fresh (served from a carafe thereby avoiding the burned flavor that is an unfortunate quality of most diner coffee). My dining companion ordered their Hobo Benedict which consisted of a large split biscuit covered in fried eggs, sausage, and cheese and smothered in gravy. He was delighted (which was a relief, as he had previously been disappointed with their gravy). The one thing I would mention is that the service is a little slow, which is expected from a bustling diner and certainly didn't bother me or my dining companion in the least--but may be something to consider if you are limited on time. Overall, a pleasant dining experience at their new and rather charming location.

Although the restaurant was very busy on Sunday morning, or waitress was prompt, kind, and meet all our needs quickly and with a smile. Most of our food was quite good, but I was very, very disappointed with the corned beef hash. As corned beef hash is one of my favorite foods, I was excited to try this dish at Moon's. However, what I ended up with was a plate of pan fried French fries with four or five small cubes of corned beef. For a dish titled "corned beef" hash I expected more corned beef.

The bacon in my bacon and cheese omelet was burnt to the point that they were semi-solid chunks of black ash. The hashbrowns were also burnt to the point of blackness. I told the server, "This is inedible, it's way too burnt," then she said, "Sorry, I'll go get your check." Absolutely disgusting food and service.

Came here for brunch on a Saturday morning with the boyfriend. It was busy, but we were seated in probably 20 minutes. Let me first say, there are NO MIMOSAS here. Very disappointing. Anyway, we got a latte and a milkshake. The milkshake was very good, and the latte was tasty as well. My boyfriend ordered the blackened chicken omlet, which was excellent! The red potatoes were a bit bland, but not bad by any means. My Mexican chicken entree was meh. I wasn't super impressed, although it didn't seem like a bad option if you want something on the healthier side. I don't think I'll be back. It really wasn't a bad experience, but I wasn't super impressed, and I'd rather go somewhere with mimosas.

Anyone who grew up in Boise over the past six decades has heard of Moon's. It began in the back of the sporting goods store run by Cid and Bernie Moon around the corner on Bannock Street from the current location in the Union Block. I ordered a chicken fried steak, which came with red potato hashbrowns, eggs, sourdough toast and homemade strawberry preserves. The steak was a good size and was tasty. I would have hoped for more flavor from the gravy. It was a little bland. Both the eggs and the hashbrowns were good. The bread seemed better than store-bought and the preserves were also very good. Despite coming in a few minutes after they opened at 6:30 on a Saturday morning, the waitress was super friendly and attentive to myself and a man and his grandson at another table and a man at the bar drinking coffee and reading a newspaper. On-street parking is not available on Idaho Street. However, there is a city parking lot across the street with free one-hour parking. All in all, the current owners have done a good job of maintaining the standards of Cid and Bernie Moon.

Feeling bummed. Was hoping our brunch here would have been better than it was. We arrived and there were only a few open tables which was a good sign to me "it's busy so the food should be pretty good". We seated ourselves and our waitress was prompt and friendly. Our coffee was fairly quick to the table and our order was off to the kitchen. That's when I felt it went down hill. The coffee cups are small so it doesn't take long to empty them, so a routine check by the waitress would have been ideal. Not the case, we didn't see our waitress again until the food arrived 20 plus minutes later. The food was just ok, I ordered two eggs, hash browns, bacon and an English muffin. The eggs were exactly as order and good, the hash browns were not crispy and had very little flavor, the bacon was a maple bacon which I found I don't care for (no fault to the cook) and the English muffin was ok. Will I be back, I am really not sure as there are so many other restaurants I can try to find a good breakfast.

This place looks great but the food isn't so. I visited my friends in Idaho recently and this was one of the stops. A stop in a list of places i was assured would have great food. The place: The place looks great. It 's like walking back in time. As if you'd just walked back to good ol days or taken a trip to the south. The waitresses are dressed nicely and it all just makes you feel relaxed. The waitresses seemed a bit slow though and disinterested in the customers. I watched some talk/gab instead of waiting on new customers, making the customers wait for one to finally take their order. My friends and I also didn't seem important enough for their attention and almost got tired of waiting before one finally came to our table. Maybe they got a little too relaxed here. The food: I ordered a shake and what i thought would be a chicken sandwich with a nice almond glaze. When the food arrived though i realized I'd made a mistake. The shake - I'll start off with the good news. The shake was great. In fact I almost drank it down without trying the sandwich. The shake wasn't gritty or milky and tasted very smooth. It came in a metal cup instead of a glass which for me is a plus. It meant I got all of the shake instead of just "what fits in a cup". To make it better it came topped with whipped topping. The sandwich - Now for the mistake. The menu advertised a sandwich that had a nice almond glaze. I thought "Oh. I've never had a chicken sandwich with almonds before. I'll give it a try". The menu didn't mention if the sandwich was hot or cold but since it was listed next to hot ones I figured it'd be hot too. To my surprise the sandwich was not hot, but actually a cold sandwich and it wasn't a chicken sandwich but rather a chicken salad sandwich. To say I was surprised is an understatement. The menu had given no indication that I would get a cold chicken salad sandwich, but I figured I may as well go with the flow and try it. It was the worst tasting sandwich I've ever tasted. I thought the almonds would give it a crisp, nutty flavor but they didn't. I thought it being a salad it'd be saved with a mayo flavor but there was none. It tasted like the time I tried cat food as a kid. When i thought "they can eat it, why can't we" then soon regretted my actions. Bottom line - The shakes are great and this was my first time hearing of, let alone eating at, Moon's, but I won't be going back.

Went here Fri July 3rd for breakfast. We waited forever for a menu, even longer for the server to come back to take our order (over 30 minutes!) - however, miraculously, she returned from the kitchen w an answer to my food allergy question in RECORD TIME, telling me the bad news that I couldn't eat anything on their menu with bread or batter involved as it all had corn products in it. (Something tells me the kitchen didn't give a lot of thought to any accommodation whatsoever.) That's most of the menu! Fresh fruit & bacon it was; how very disappointing! I got horribly sick shortly after eating there. The cantaloupe must not have been washed b4 being sliced & the melon was contaminated w mold from outer rhind. So, 8 days later, I'm still feeling the unpleasant effects & wish we'd never set foot - or mouth! - in that heinous hell-hole.

Not sure what to say, except, disappointed. It's the little things that add up. Wobbly tables, it's 2015, I think we have the ability to fix those. Coffee cups that were empty far to long, little things. We came into Moon's on a last minute whim for a late breakfast. It was full even borderline busy we got a table right away, it's a seat yourself place. The server was really nice and friendly, coffee came right away and is pretty good. I had the chicken fried steak with house made white gravy, red potato hashbrowns, 2 eggs, over easy, and sourdough toast with raspberry jam. The food seemed to take a bit to long even for the amount of other patrons. The steak a little bland but wasn't bad, the gravy had no real flavor just the raw flour taste, from not cooking the roux enough. The hashbrowns looked like they had the most potential, but they too had little flavor to go with the good looks. The eggs were some of the easiest eggs I have ever had, but I can't fault the cook on that one that's how I asked for them. The sourdough toast had a nice bit of chewy texture you should get from a good traditional loaf, it just didn't have any flavor. It just was not the breakfast I was hoping for from a place that I had been told was good.

It's a good place for breakfast if you are downtown. The waits aren't usually too bad but if you go in past 10 on a weekend expect to wait a bit. The food is really tasty but is your typical breakfast fare there isn't anything terribly unique about it. I don't want to sound like it isn't good (it is) but I don't feel they have anything that is terribly signature. Quaint restraint and stick to your ribs menu.

Pretty expensive for a solo lunch, but most of that was the unnecessary, but totally worth it, milkshake.

Great food and exceptional service. I love the pure energy breakfast. Great meal after an early morning mtn bike ride. Would definitely go there again.

I got a chicken fried porkchop, covered in grave, hash browns, and two eggs over medium. This was a fairly large breakfast. It was a little on the salty side, and totally delicous. My gluten free companion like that they had lots of gluten free options.

Service was a little lacking, but food was definitely 5 stars! We came in at what appeared to be shift change, so the waitress that seated us seemed annoyed. The homemade sourdough and jelly was amazing. I ordered the California Dreamin and absolutely enjoyed it. Would definitely go back for food quality, but the 3 star rating is for the service quality.

I like the place. It looks really nice. The service was good; however, the food wasn't. Our server was polite, nothing special. Our food was odd tasting, old, didn't come out hot and smelled weird.

Fairview Ave establishment is a far cry from the Main St. business. First, the good report - Downtown was divine. The food fabulous, cooked just right and tasty. The waitress was wonderful. Now for the bad news. The Fairview restaurant was to put it mildly, disgusting. The grill had not been cleaned between breakfast and lunch, and the hashbrowns tasted like grilled fish. The meat was so over-cooked it tasted like charcoal, and the coffee..my word can't they even get that right? The coffee was like lukewarm brown water, so weak you couldn't tell if it was coffee. The wait staff were great..but the food, forget it. We will return to Main St., but never to Fairview!

This review is for the new Fairview location (6767 Fairview) formerly Jerry's State Court Cafe & Elmers). Our group met at 2pm, I was slightly concerned since our last Jerry's visit was mediocre at best, but large group coming out were smiling & had to-go boxes...I asked gentleman holding the door, "How was it?" He replied "much better than the old place". We had 7 in our group; the staff was quick to accommodate. Was pretty busy but clearing out since they close at 3pm. Tons on the menu, hard to choose! Several in our party ordered the California Benedict, Another the Island Burger, Fish & Chips & The County Fair Burger. The burger folks said extremely happy, piled high with toppings. Fish & Chips were hot and crispy, moist on the inside, really good sized portions. One had ordered eggs benny, medium poached, all arrived that way (not sure if waitress or cook) but the avocados were fresh and "pretty" and very good. Hash browns little greasy but cooked perfectly. A peanut butter shake was ordered with rave reviews. We'll be back!

I want to love Moon's, I really do. But three visits in and I've yet to be impressed. Keep in mind, I've only been for breakfast. On my first visit, I was with a group of five or six for a late breakfast on a weekday. It wasn't busy at all, so we pushed some tables together in the middle of the floor. I had the pancakes and was disappointed. They were good at first, but after a few bites the richness hits you and made me feel a little ill. The batter has a great flavor, but they taste like they're cooked in a stick of butter. The texture is great, perfect actually, but even when dry, you bite in and get a heavy helping of butter (and not good or real butter, but that butter-flavored cooking substitute that restaurants use). The second time I brought my sister in, who was visiting from out of state, hoping for better results. It was unclear whether or not it was seat-yourselves, so we stood in the doorway like idiots while the wait staffed looked past us, for a solid five minutes. I got biscuits and gravy this round and sadly found the biscuits to have the same overly-buttery issue the pancakes had. And to top it off, the gravy was a little greasy, too. Again, not very satisfied. On my third visit, I ventured in alone, with a craving for restaurant-style hash browns. Again, I was confused if it was self-seating or not, but after a moment I grabbed a seat at the counter. I was promptly waited on (as I was each visit) and ordered the Hobo Beni. Again, it was greasy, plus the hash browns weren't all that great. I guess next time I'll just try the milkshake.

Legitimate 3.5 star breakfast. Not to many frills here but you will get some decent eats, no doubt. Eggs Benny, corned beef hash, and the basic two eggs / ham / hash brown / and toast are all solid choices.

Any breakfast place that I can remember six months after I've been there is...pretty much every breakfast place. What do you think I am? Some guy who can't remember breakfast places? How often do you think I eat breakfast somewhere other than my house? So often that I can't even recall where it was? Come on. Moon's? Yes, I remember Moon's. They had a gluten-free something and I ordered it. See? Nailed it.

You know the owner of a restaurant has no character when instead of accepting a review as an opportunity to improve they instead send you a covert name calling reply. This is what Gary of Moon's sent me .......................... "Well, Joe Blow. Thank you for spending the time to spell correctly, whew..musta been tough. Yelp is designed to write reviews, good and bad, not just trash the establishments you don't like. You must have a miserable life to have such bad experiences every time you go out to eat. I can only assume that happens to you because you are recognized as a douche-nozzle. The good thing is that what you write speaks for itself. You can't write anything good, so anyone that reads it realizes that your opinion matters not. How about you just eat at Chilis, South of the Border and Applebees and leave the independent restaurants out of your pathetic life? And the ALL-CAPS and !!!..really? OOOHH, so scary. And blocking a person...what an idiot!" So every time I receive such a contact I will post it here just to show what kind of guy Gary is. DO NOT PATRONIZE MOON'S

The best "diner" we have found here in Boise thus far.. Funky décor, check. Fluffy, delicious omelets, check. Extremely generous portions, check. Strong coffee with possible soy milk option, check. GLUTEN FREE bread for sandwiches and as a side of toast, check. GLUTEN FREE pancakes, check. With all of that said, go check it out!

This is my go-to downtown breakfast place. At least on weekdays, this is a seat yourself establishment (rules might be a bit different on busy weekends). The staff people are usually the same few people who work here everyday. They're always kind and swift with service. My coffee cup has never gone dry thanks to their diligent work. My favorite item on the menu is the Moon's Benedict. They toast the English muffin with a layer of butter adding a nice crunch to the benedict. The chef is generous with the hollandaise, which is useful--since it's tasty on the accompanying hash browns. I sometimes get fry sauce to add to my hash browns as well. My boyfriend is a big fan of Moon's Breakfast Monty Cristo. I've personally never had a bite of the actual sandwich, but I absolutely adore the fruit jam/jelly that comes with it. Pros: No wait time like Goldy's has. Awesome staff. Awesome food. Cons: Sometimes it's a bit chilly, but that's easily solved by choosing a table closer to the kitchen.

Yeah. I like this place... It's pretty average, but also pretty reasonable and decent. It has a super cute atmosphere (if that sorta thing matters to you), the milk shakes WILL knock your face off, they are SO good, and the food will make your tummy happy. Even the corned beef hash was pretty delightful... and not everyone does that well. They do! The service is good, too. Lunch isn't my favorite here, but breakfast is great!

I looked here on Yelp then went downtown looking for a "Breakfast Adventure" - as my husband called it. Lately every restaurant seems to have the same coffee supplier in Boise and it all tastes somewhat like dishwater. But only having had 1 cup before going I decided the heck with it, I wanted a cup of coffee. So let me start off with saying the coffee is awesome. They get it from the Co-Op and it was really good. The waitresses were all really friendly, and the food was cooked quickly and was good. I had a breakfast burrito and it was ok, it could have used some type of Spanish sauce with it. It did come with a bit of pico-de-gallo and that saved it from being bland. The breakfast potatoes were very good. Our servings were large. We would definitely go back again. We had a good hearty breakfast, in an atmosphere that was totally enjoyable. It doesn't matter where you come from you will feel at home at Moon's.

Came in for lunch to try the burger and shake. Shakes are good! The waitress forgot we were waiting to order and eventually came back and apologized for forgetting us. Yikes! Burgers came and one order was completely wrong. Then I asked them to recook the fries as they were way undercooked. So we had to wait once again. Overall, I would not come back for more.

Very unique menu with very tasty options I went with the smoked salmon omlete it was very good and so filling I couldn't finish it all. I loved how their coffee is fair trade. The chairs are pretty cool too! The only down fall is that when we walked in it wasn't clear as to seat ourselves and I felt the staff was kind of pushy when we were finishing up our meal but overall I would definitely go back again and try a milkshake. Oh I especially love that they have vegetarian "meat"!

I live in Boise and go to this cafe at least once a month for breakfast. I have breakfasted in a wide range of places in my several decades of life, from tiny diners in Northwest logging country where "we ain't got no decaf" to exquisitely fine settings with outstanding cuisine. Moon's is on the diner end of the scale, in the very best way. The food is good, comes out quickly, and is hearty. This is where salt of the earth locals go to have breakfast, whether a group of 8 or a single bellying up to the counter.

I have eaten at Moons to many times to count. Anytime I find myself in Boise it is one of my first stops. Their food, service, and atmosphere are top notch. They changed their menu recently and I have not tried since. If you ate at Moons in past though they make a burger called "the Duke". It is one of the best burgers I have ever had.

My initial review of Moon's was several years ago. I since had the chance to visit them again and I am SO glad I did. All of the rotten things I experienced before have been written over thanks to a new location and new ownership. Thanks to the downtown parking rules (first hour free in the garage across the street) my friend Shawn and I can make it to Moon's for lunch and back during on a work day. The food is wonderfully prepared and the staff is helpful. I hope to be able to visit for breakfast sometime soon.

Cute cafe with vintage signs on the walls. The waitress asked if we wanted to try the apple pie, and then charged us for it. She clearly has tricked tourists before. Food was decent, gluten free options were $1 more on top of high prices.

Heard Moon's had a new owner, so decided to give them another shot. Service was very friendly, hence the bump up to 3 stars from 2. Food, however was unimpressive. Croissant breakfast sandwich was delivered smashed (like it was cooked with an iron) and missing 30% of it's ingredients. It was probably the worst breakfast sandwich I've ever had. Potatoes were greasy, a bit mushy and nothing to write home about. For the quality, the food was not a good value. I might give Moon's another shot and try their pancakes or something other than eggs. I've also heard they have good shakes. Though, with tons of great breakfast and lunch options within 1-10 blocks of Moon's I'll have a hard time finding motivation to do so.

Great location; an ideal 50's style diner Extra-yummy coffee Moon cakes were like dessert along with the bacon Loved the red potatoe hash browns Hollindaise sauce - average the rest of the smoked salmon Benedict was ideal Can't exactly say why it's 3 stars not 4. May have been the apathetic waitress. Will probably go there again but it will be after trying every other brunch place in town

The service was not the best. The waitress came over to take our order but we weren't ready yet so she said she'd come back...but never did. She admitted that she forgot about us and we were her only table. I had the fish and chips. Fries would have been really good if they weren't covered in salt which for some reason appeared to be glued onto everything. The fish was probably frozen but not bad for what it was. We also got an order of onion rings that were ok. They need to use some fresher ingredients and maybe some staff training. Everything seems like it's mediocre at best. Perhaps breakfast is better but for lunch I'll go Gernika or Bittercreek anyday.

Breakfast food is their strength. It is an old school dinner feel at the heart of downtown Boise. Decor is very eclectic. Staff was friendly. The food came out very quickly. I special ordered an omelet with lots of requests and they got it right, which hardly every happens to me! Best time to go is during the summer on a Saturday morning when Farmers Market is happening. Then go shop afterwards!

Went here for lunch and some terrible service. They only had two girls working the lunch rush - completely understaffed. Waiting 25 minutes to just get a beverage is ridiculous. The only reason I left a good tip is because the girl never bothered to bring me my change and I didn't feel like sticking around for another 15 minutes plus to track her down for it. Instead I just won't bother eating here again. If the food was spectacular, an exception could be made. Unfortunately that is not the case. Given that minimum wage for servers in Idaho is just over $3 per hour, I'm sure they could afford to properly staff for lunch. Very disappointed.

Good diner breakfast - expect grease, brown colored white bread. The hardest working wait staff in show biz.

Came here for lunch. Ordered egg salad sandwich and my B/F got a turkey sandwich. Egg salad made to order.. I ordered light mayo and they had no issue doing that. The turkey on the sandwich was carved turkey breast, no processed deli meat. The fries were amazing. They had quite a few light or healthy options as well. Our waiter was great and friendly but not overboard. The prices were great, I would recommend to anyone.

I try to stop here for lunch every time I come to Boise. Without a doubt, Moon's is the home of the best Reuben sandwich I've eaten in my entire life. Although they have a wide assortment of burgers, sandwiches, and other traditional diner fare, I come for the Reuben. I'm counting the days until I can return to Boise for my next one. Hungry G. is a big fan of Reubens ... so much so that I've petitioned for membership into the "Tribe of Reuben" (I'll let you know how that turns out). Moon's Reuben sticks out because it is so unique. First of all, it is huge; it could easily feed a small family. The pastrami is thick and cooked to perfection, and the sauerkraut, Swiss, and dressing are proportioned perfectly. But that's not all--it also features a thick slice of turkey breast (yes, turkey!) on the bottom, which prevents the juiciness of the sandwich from dissolving the bread underneath. It comes on 3 (!) slices of delicious rye, which is robust and noticeable. Like their other entrees, this comes with a choice of sides: the smiley or crinkle fries are good, but so are the many other options. Moon's is also known for its incredible milkshakes. They are "hand spun" and come in many flavors. They are thick, rich, and delicious. I usually order a raspberry or marshmallow shake, but the dark chocolate is good too. For $0.50 you can mix these flavors, which is out of this world. Moon's has transformed from its roots as a classic old-school diner near the State Capital, where legislators made back room deals over a shake. A few years back it moved to a classier downtown location and facility. However, their food is just as good as it has always been ... and I suspect a few legislators still make deals here. NOTE: I've never had breakfast here, so that's my next goal. The homemade corned beef hash and eggs it supposed to be unbelievable.

My boyfriend and I are from Seattle and driving through for one day. We came across some reviews about the Reuben sandwich which is his favorite and also some information about their large selection of gluten free items as I am unable to eat gluten which can be troublesome when dining out. We had the best experience this morning with very good food and a friendly atmosphere. Most importantly was our outstanding waiter Scott (Andrew is the name on the ticket but he goes by Scott). We travel at least 50% of the year and eat at many resturants across the country but this is the first review I have ever written because Scott was that outstanding. If you have the opportunity to go to Moon's you absolutely should and ask for Scott! We will be eating there again before we leave tomorrow morning.

Had bacon eggs and hash browns with toast. Bacon was weird tasting and the hash browns weren't too good, had a weird wood flavor. Toast was really good with jelly though

See? Nailed it.

My friend and I went here the other day to try their milkshakes. The atmosphere was great. I loved the fact that they had oldies posters around as well as pics of kids that had been in their cafe. It wasn't busy so as soon we walked in the waitress gave us glasses of water and menus.
