Came here for lunch one day. I think the trick is to go and sit at the bar or stool area if you don't want to wait in line. Food comes in pretty big portions, or maybe it was just a very hearty meal. I ordered the jambalaya and it was very heavy. Definitely felt stuff after. The food (including the side dishes) were okay. I wouldn't say that it was worth how much they were charging, esp for lunch.

First time here and while I'm not a huge seafood fan, the rest of my party is. The food was not all terrible, though I got sick even though I just had fish & chips. The service was bad. The server was nice but forgot several items we ordered and it took a very long time to get anything and when you have a strong willed four and half year old, sometimes waiting is hell.

Very nice place and service was good. You have to be a regular to know what is good what is not. My wife's stuffed Prongs were very good. My in crusted Trout was not at all good. They cooked it in Lobster Sauce which totally covered over the taste of the trout. I would not recommend this place.

Probably the best sea food I have ever eaten. Have gone back there a number of times and have never been disappointed. Staff very very good. Food absolutely great. I recommend this restaurant 100%

The wait was short for a Friday night at dinner time, only ten minutes. We were seated and had our drink order in moments. The sourdough bread, the soup, and the water showed up within minutes after we placed our order, and everything was good and warm. The clams and oysters were so good, we thought we were back in seattle! Extra butter, bread, tarter sauce, and water showed up as expected in a restaurant with great service. The only drawback? The clam was so big, it must have been a geoduck, and seemed a little tough and chewy, maybe not fresh, with little taste...but was not disagreeable. But otherwise, a great meal! Our waiter, Andrew, was courteous and prompt. Looking forward to our Marion berry pie ala mode for the last course.

I traveled to Boise to spend Mother's Day with - well, my Mom. I actually lived in Boise for a year back in 1999 - long story. THIS IS A BIT LONG, BUT IT'S A COMPLICATED EXPERIENCE, SO BEAR WITH ME. Step-Dad was nice enough to take us out for the "all-you-can-eat" prawn deal ($12.99). I am a HUGE fan of prawn/shrimp, since the Mrs. is allergic and I don't get much opportunity to enjoy it. The sourdough bread that came to the table ahead of the meal was - well......rancid in flavor. Nothing CLOSE to sourdough. The crust nearly required a chisel to cut it. The cole slaw was actually excellent, though I suspect nobody getting a paycheck at McGrath's actually had a hand in creating it. It tasted suspiciously similar to that you'd get at KFC, which I really like. Clearly it was pre-packaged and scooped into a bowl. Alas, the plate arrived with a selection of beer-batter prawns, coconut prawns, terryaki prawns, and a small dish of prawns alfredo. Accompanying the variety of prawn were common, ordinary French fries and some "Asian" rice. The cocktail sauce was mundane, and nothing special. The Terryaki sauce was nowhere NEAR terryaki. I'm an amateur chef and owned a restaurant for years. I know Orange-Sesame sauce when I taste it. Ok, now the play-by-play: Beer-battered prawns - cooked in oil that was entirely too cool. This caused the shrimp to be done enough to eat, but the batter tends to fall off, because it gets saturated with oil before it can adhere to the prawn. Coconut prawns - Same thing. The batter was falling off and the shrimp was done enough to eat, but had that "not quite done" slimy texture to it. Considering the oil was too cold to properly cook the prawns, it was evident this was frozen prawn, not fresh. Terryaki prawns - Well, aside from the prawns not having been anywhere near terryaki sauce, it's hard to screw up 4 prawns grilled on a wooden skewer. They were nestled atop a bed of DRY, PARTIALLY HARD rice that wasn't steamed long enough in the bag-in-box package that it most likely came from. NOW THE WORST: Prawns Alfredo - are they serious ? I'll give them credit on the pasta - it was al-dente and pretty much acceptable. The tails were still on the prawns. Who the heck wants to handle prawns to pull the tails off when they've been nesting on pasta with alfredo sauce poured over them ? I suppose, thankfully, for the FIRST order I got, there was BARELY any sauce and it was cold to the touch anyway, so my fingers didn't get too slimy doing what the chef should have done in the first place. I asked the server (Pam - who was quite congenial) to have the chef pull the tails off of my second order - she said he can't because that's the way it comes. In the same breath, she said it was "cooked to order". Shortly, she came back and said the chef would pull the tails off "just for you". What ? My second serving (this WAS all you can eat, after all) was actually not bad. The tails had been removed and the dish was actually hot enough that I had to blow on it. The problem was, this time, it was swimming in alfredo sauce (probably from a jar, judging by the taste of it). The third serving (got this one, not because I was hungry, but to sample the consistency of presentation) came out and was again DRY like the first (although the chef MUST have known it was ME, as he removed the tails). There was twice as much pasta (still properly al-dente) and the obligatory 4 prawns, barely heated to a palatable temperature. Mind you, I didn't complain much directly, since I wasn't paying the tab, but if I had been, the manager AND the chef would have heard all this right up front. All in all, ABSOLUTE FAILURE. The chef needs to go back to work at McDonald's and do what he can't screw up. Pam needs to stop enabling a worthless example of a chef and find a job where she doesn't have to lie to customers about what she's serving.

I've been to McGrath's in Vancouver, Wa and I usually enjoy it. Sad to say that I won't be saying the same for this location. For starters, the service was slow. Twice we received plates for our appetizers that still had someone else's leftover crab on it. I had ordered BBQ ribs that were burnt (the whole top of the slab was black). Shrimp wontons tasted more like cream cheese wontons and the double lobster tails were the equivalent to one lobster in their lobster tank display. Sorry, but I won't be recommending this place.

I've been twice in the last month. Once for lunch and the other for dinner, both on Sundays. The seafood is definitely the better option as the lobster and fried fish were very good. The sides were bland and my steak was mealy and, at medium rare, bled all over the plate once I cut into it. Both times the service was slow while the restaurant was close to empty. The ladies bathroom was a mess both visits. Definitely not the upscale place it used to be.

First time here, had dinner at 8:00. Dinner was cold and heard the people next to us complaining about cold food to. Never got a refill on water although she told me 3 times she would get some for me. Want be back.

Great service, fresh food, and a great dining/seafood experience. Went here on a date and it was really nice. When we went the service was good. For good seafood in Boise, this is a great option. They also have other lovely dishes for non-seafood lovers.

I took my wife here last night on a whim and I'm glad we tried it. We sat in the bar because they had a 30 minute wait. service was a little off, but I'm giving them a pass on that because they were very busy and obviously understaffed. The food was delicious, I had the halibut and chips, and my wife had the lobster and prawns. Everything I tasted was good to above average, the beer and wine selection seemed decent as well. I know we will be back.

Pretty good food, but the service can be pretty terrible. Clam chowder is recommended and tasty, and smoothies are good also. The staff is relatively nice, but isn't really on top on top of customer service.

I'm out here visiting my sister and her family. We went there last night for dinner after going to Joe's Crab Shack. There was going to be over an hour wait, so they decided to go here instead. They've been there numerous of times and said it was one of their favorites. Once we got there, I thought the place looked pretty nice. It had a bar and everything. Our wait was supposed to be 25 minutes...but, ended up way much longer than that. I'm guessing about 45 minutes instead or maybe I'm just being nice. Once we got our table, the wait staff was pretty friendly and prompt. It was a group of 7, so we ordered a couple of appetizers. One was the calamari and the other was a mixture of some sort of sesame chicken, mozzarella sticks, cheese wontons, and onion rings. FYI...I'm not over 250lbs, like Aaron said. LOL...I ordered the New Orleans Catfish. You can choose a garden salad or coleslaw, I chose the salad. You were also able to choose another side with your entree. Red potaoes, fries, rice pilaf, baked potatoe, etc. The rice pilaf was great. For some reason, I thought the fish was going to be whole, not that I would be able to finish it anyway. There they also have ribs, steaks, pasta. I tried my neice's penne pastas. One was jambalaya, the other was shrimp and chicken. They were both pretty good. Decent price, nice staff, good food. The wait is a bit crappy if you have a huge crowd.

I usually like this place. We never had a bad meal. But Friday we went for lunch...and waited and waited and waited and waited...maybe they're closed. No the guy at the bar saw us. Wandered over to the kitchen but they're clear in the back. Bet they didn't know I was actually standing in they're kitchen. Haha. Well long story short it was like we weren't welcome and didn't spend enough.

I've eaten here many times in the past due to it being right near the hotel. Today was the crab cakes. They were pretty good and the veggies weren't loaded with butter and salt. My co-worker tried a crab crusted snapper that he said was excellent. I'd say this is the best option in the immediate area.

Ate dinner here while staying at the Hampton Inn nearby. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised as chain seafood places don't usually live up to the hype they create for themselves. The menu selection should provide an option for everyone, and the prices are fantastic! There was no "wow" factor to our dinner selections but they were competently prepared and the service was spot on. There WAS a wow factor to the chocolate ganache cake I had after dinner.....YUMMY!

Where do I start? Ok, the two best things are the decor & the clam chowder. Down hill from there. In approaching the building I was surprised to see how empty the parking lot was. Saturday night at 7:30 & not very many cars. We were told this was one of Boise's better seafood establishments. Sorry but we're tourists. Should of checked Yelp. When asked for a beer list the server read off, rather fast about seven beers. When trying to impress beer drinkers don't lead with Coors Light! Our son asked to see the list that the server was reading from. For some reason he didn't appreciate that & the service from then on was cool & efficient. My salmon was dry & bland, even the baked potato was bland & I had it with sour cream, chives & cheese. How do you serve a bland baked potato in Idaho? Any how this is turning into a short story. Suffice to say can't put this on my list of even ok restaurants. Next time CHECK YELP!!

Overpriced food for commercialized quality. Fish does not seem fresh. Preparation appears amateur. I would eat at red lobster before I ate here. Service was mediocre.

Hmmm, I visited McGrath this evening and the service was slow, it seems like restaurants should expect a bigger crowd on a Friday night. My dinner was just okay, not much flair.

  • J M.

Salmon was cooked perfectly! Limited beer selection since all craft beers on tap were IPAs (or tasted like it), and get the salad with dressing on the side or else it will be drenched. Aside from those two minor issues, service was excellent and prompt. Even the side vegetables were excellent - and those are typically over-cooked in restaurants. Overall a good value for the meal.

I've been there twice and both times the fried shrimp were greasy and overly breaded. I felt greasy when I left the establishment. Prices are in line with other chain restaraunts, but I really hate to admit that the seafood at red lobster is better and that ain't saying much. If you want the best seafood in boise, go to Costco buy some seafood and take it home to cook.

This is your normal Red Lobster Style chain with mediocre food and unbelievably slow service. It was empty on a Monday night when we went in. There was a lot of staff talking to each other but they didn't seem to notice they had customers. It took about 15 minutes after sitting down to be acknowledged, then another 10 before ordering drinks. Food was okay, not terrible but certainly not worth the wait.

Really gone downhill. Fish isn't fresh, service mediocre. A pity, could be so much more. I just wont spend my money there.

We went again last week and had more good good and service. Although McGraths is pretty dated, it sentimental to us :) I had the halibut parm, Bur had the ribs (ironically she doesn't eat seafood) and we split an app combo basket. Everyone is always friendly, the food is consistent and we will be back :)

I have visited McGrath's multiple times and always enjoyed their food and service. I was especially impressed with their corporate customer service when my gift card got lost in the mail. They emailed me within an hour of contacting them and sent me a new gift card right away.

I came on a Friday evening around 8pm based upon hotel recommendation. Traveling all day and was HUNGRY but needed veg options. Walked across the street and was greeted warmly. Sat and looked at menu within minutes my waiter greeted me (even though he was dealing with water spill and new dish at another table) he came over, apologized for wait and asked to get me a drink. The next thing I know a delicious martini was in front of me. I ordered the house made mozzarella sticks, great. Sauce very good. I ordered a modified shrimp Louis salad very good. It was quiet maybe because its late? Also prices, well I travel a lot and this was reasonable. Pricey? Nope. Seafood. I come from Florida. I was pleased.

And I am sick. If you want a seafood place worse than red lobster with worse service. You found it. Won't recommend it and won't go back. Stay away from this aging menu and aging restaurant. Horrible. Matter fact if you want seafood go get microwaveable Gordon's it will be better.

Food was pretty good and reasonably priced. Service was not that great. He did got several orders wrong besides writing it down. Now that could also be the kitchens fault (having been a server) but still his responsibility to double check. He also left several empty drink glasses on the table. I had the prawn platter and it was pretty good. As was the app sampler. Especially the crab dip. Wife's salmon was done all the way through though. I usually prefer mine more of a Med Rare. So heads up on that.

Birthday party of 8 people. We met in the Bar. Dave(bartender) was fun and friendly. Our server was Dani. Very fun and did a great job! There were a couple of hiccups...dirty ap plates, and one picky member of our party sent the steak back. But sincere service conquers all with me. They did a fabulous job. We had fun and most loved their dinner.

This restaurant was ok, but not anything special. I didn't think it was horrible, but doubt I would return or recommend to others. Overall atmosphere was nice, and our waitress was good. She was attentive and upfront with what to and not to order. I ordered coconut prawns. Batter was light, which was nice. But overall flavor was lacking. Caesar salad was limp and drenched in dressing. We ordered calamari for an appetizer which I found to be chewy and some pieces were a little squishy. Did not order dessert. Honestly, I think Red Lobster is better, at least they have those delicious cheddar biscuits.

I came here on a Saturday night and the place was dead and empty the waitress was nice and helpful with the menu I came with a large group so we tried out some appetizers the crab stuffed mushrooms were boring and had no flavor, the calamari tasted like rubber, and the clams were small. For dinner I had the bay city salmon which was crab stuffed with a lobster sauce this was drowned in the salty sauce which i wasn't a fan of. Everyone else I came with had seafood combos which they were not really satisfied with either if i had to pick between this place or red lobster I would have to chose red lobster lol

My wife took me here for my birthday on Jan 1, 2014. We arrived around 6pm and were promptly seated. Our drinks and bread showed up about 5 minutes later, although I was disappointed they were out of the wine I wanted. We had the crab and artichoke dip for starters and it was very delicious. Much better than I had experienced at other restaurants. I ordered the Halibut with Asparagus and Bernadine sauce. It was good but the Bernadine sauce was a bit overpowering giving it a very tart taste. My wife ordered the tuna special which was grilled to perfection and the flavor was very delicious as well. The atmosphere was pleasant and not too loud and everything was clean. There was a mistake on our bill, but it was promptly corrected. We will go back when we Have a taste for seafood.

Sesame chicken appetizers - mmmm yum! Service has improved immensely. We had come here a couple of previous times where the service was atrocious. One time the hostess sat us at a table and 30 minutes later we had never been acknowledge by any wait staff, even though several walked by our table many times during that time period. The manager ended up serving us, I think because our server was too embarrassed to wait on and yes, we were quite grumpy by that point and justifiably so. To be fair, we periodically check back and I must say our recent experience was much improved. We had a cheery and attentive server and food was good. Especially the clam chowder.

This place was across the street from my hotel- Hilton Garden Inn Spectrum. So, I love seafood and decided to check it out. Inside, you think it was an LL Bean store with hanging fish on plaques and lots of wood planks. I had the steak and shrimp special. Actually, it was better than I expected. Food came quickly and had a nice peach tea drink. Waitress was courteous and made sure everything was fine. A nice place for some pretty good steak and seafood.
