Came here for a business meeting over coffee. What it has going for it: + Parking is great. For this location in the Linen District (in such close proximity to downtown), the fact that it has a full, private lot is wonderful. + The patio is wonderful. We were able to sit under an umbrella enjoying the pleasant spring morning weather during our meeting, which is fabulous! + The gift shop looks absolutely adorable. I didn't have time to peruse--but I will come back to do so as it looked darling. What's less than grand: - The coffee was meh. I ordered a Mexican mocha and the espresso was weak and the usual flavorful spiced chocolate one expects in a Mexican mocha tasted all but absent. - They have a minimum purchase on debit cards. So, if you're there to buy a mocha--you're going to have to purchase something else to put you over the $5 minimum. A minor annoyance--but this girl never has cash--debit carding it all the time--so, again, a bit annoying. - The patio is gorgeous but the seating is really tight--to the point that if someone is sitting at the table behind you, it's darn near impossible to sit there. The table behind us complained about it and we struggled with it as well. I didn't try any of their eats but my dining companion had a chocolate cake that looked pretty amazing. I would definitely be willing to give their cuisine a try--but strictly for coffee? Nope.

This is a new gourmet market and we just stopped by for coffee. It looks like the food is made off site but I could be wrong. Salads run $10-13 and sandwiches will be $10 so it's not a cheap date but again we just had brewed coffee at about $2.50 a cup. The cups are large and the coffee is hot and good. They also stock wines and are currently selling Christmas gifts too. Check the place out on your own, I would say that it might be a good place but my initial opinion is it may be a bit pricey?? Time will tell if this market will stand the test if time.

I used to live about a block away from this place in LA it was called Joan's on 3rd. This place is almost exactly like it but with far less options. In addition to their gourmet take on the food it's not as gourmet in my opinion. I have tried just about everything in this place because my Mother loves it. I think it's because I forgot to take her to Joan's when I lived in LA. I'm giving this place 3 stars because of all 5-6 times I've been here I haven't been impressed with the food. It's an average place for lunch but I will say if pastries are your thing you'll enjoy the other side of the restaurant.

This is one of my go-to restaurants for lunch. The food is always good (I recommend the Tomato and Brie Sandwich with side salad) and fast. I have been here with my family as well as solo. Fun atmosphere!

Stopped by here to grab a bite to eat the other day while running errands. I loved the atmosphere, but everything was a little on the pricey side. I had the BELT, it was delicious in taste, but the baguette was extremely tough and made it difficult to eat. The staff wasn't very friendly, which surprised me. There was one waitress who was acting nice--but you could tell it was acting. She was short and cold in her words. The marketplace was neat to peruse, but also pretty spendy. I did grab a few things, as well as an A'Tavola Crunch cookie, on my way out. (Which was very good!)

My husband and I had a great experience all around at A Tavola during our stop in there on a trip through Boise. The location, the vibe, the food, the service, the gourmet and home gift options, we loved it all. Were this in our neighborhood, it would be a favorite for us. LOCATION / PARKING Just outside the downtown core at 15th and Grove, this is convenient. In particular since it has its' own parking lot. VIBE Looks like this building may have been re-purposed from a garage with big doors rolled up in nice weather. Open interior with lots of seating at communal and individual standard height (hooray) tables and chairs throughout. More seats on the patio in the front. Part café, part deli, part gourmet market, part bakery and espresso bar, part cookbook library, part home and kitchen gifts and accessories, in a high ceiling open concept space divided up with seating and displays. In sum, all wonderful. I've read criticism focused, no kidding, on the fact that most of the clientele are female and of a certain age. That may be true but on the day of our visit, I'd say the people enjoying the patio and inside were about evenly split between men and women and across age groups. Not that the gender or age of people there should be a thing at all. But since it has been a thing for critics, thought I'd offer my observation. SERVICE From the moment we walked in the door and were greeted by the young woman at the bakery / coffee bar counter through our ordering of breakfast and coffee to our ordering of take out to take home, service was friendly and efficient. The routine is order at the deli counter, including your coffee order, take a number and they'll deliver to your table. They also clear for you after you're done so no need to bus your own. Normally not a fan of counter ordering, here it fits. It was also very nice of them to provide us with a zip loc bag of ice to use in our cooler so we could order deli take out items to go with us for the several hour drive home. FOOD So many good choices on the menu at the counter and in the deli case. For breakfast we shared (it is big enough for sure) a chile relleno baked dish ($6.95) . Delicious. Since I'm a person who likes veggies at all meals, I ordered a small side of the broccoli, red grapes and almond salad to go with my breakfast. (Seriously.) It was tasty. The bold roast coffee was great, served piping hot in 12 oz mugs ($1.95). All of our take out items to have for an easy meal when we got home later that day after a long drive we also good. The picante tuna salad in particular. Deli items rotate frequently so it seems that there would always be standard favorites and new things to enjoy. I hear they make some wicked good homemade soups too. The bakery case looked tempting but at the tail end of a long vacation we decided to let temptation pass us by. Next time in we'd definitely indulge. PRICES Noting some have referenced this as break the bank pricing, I'll offer counterpoint that for my husband and me the deli food prices seemed reasonable for portion sizes and quality. Maybe visitors who live elsewhere have a different frame of reference for pricing than locals. But comparing this to Oakville Grocery or Dean and Deluca, as analogs, in some of our old stomping grounds of SF area or NYC area or even food to go from food trucks in our current home in Bend, the prices here seemed good to us. GO SLOW SHOPPING All kinds of great items for personal care, like soaps and lotions, or home, kitchen and gift items like candles, trivets, books, cookware, linens...the list goes on and on. A friend of mine calls this kind of store a "go slow shop" since you can see a new treasure tucked everywhere. I nod along with folks who say the gift items can be a tad spendy, still I purchased gifts here that I didn't find elsewhere. ACCESSIBILITY Universally accessible design from parking (ADA spots in the lot), to level in and throughout and standard table height seating. HOURS Mon - Fri 7 - 6. Sat 7 - 5.

Holy Cougarville, Northenders! I went here for lunch this past Wednesday, and it was packed with what I would describe as an influx of overly-groomed Highland dwellers coming down into the valley to graze--lots of girlfriend lunch dates (dressed as if fresh off a jog or yoga stretch), mid-life crisis Joes, and well-off retirees. There is an ample section of prepared foods and sandwich options at the deli counter to suit just about anyone. Breads were fresh. Meats of decent quality. Sides tasty (would highly recommend the Moroccan eggplant salad). Careful of the question, "chip or salad with the sandwich?" The latter is a $4 up-charge. I also tried the chicken and pepper enchilada (more like a casserole) and found it quite tasty, and filling. The coffee and sweets side of the space did not stack up as well. Dawson Taylor is decent coffee, and they're local, but they are really a little "blah" in the trend toward really delicious coffee. The new Crux coffeehouse has keyed into this with their choice of Stumptown (Portland) beans, as has Salt N Tears with Doma (Post Falls, ID). If they wanted to stay local, I think they should have hooked up with Flying M's Purple Bean. What can I say, I'm a coffee snob. I didn't much like my selected bake good, either, which was some sort of walnut, caramel bar. The "flaky" portion was much too floury and came off as chalky, and the caramel part was more akin to overly sweet noughat (which I love when done well in the Italian fashion). Just the right amount of toasted nut, though. Overall a good addition to food choices in downtown. Especially for the single, mid-lifer on the make.

We happened in this little joint for a late lunch after a bike ride through Boise, which doesn't much remind Sister Holland and me of Salt Lake, but more like Sacto. Oh, but I wander. And actually, A'Tavola really belongs in East Hampton, and not Boise. They converted an old garage, I think, into a high end (yes, no kidding, this place is high end!) charcuterie with little substance under the shiny white chocolate coating. We ordered a Croque Monsieur, which is a warm ham and cheese sandwich on brioche slices that comes with a small (gross understatement) green salad. By the time we added a coke and a small bowl of potato salad we were out fifteen smackers. As we inhaled the tiny tea sandwich and polished off the fifteen leaves of mesclun lettuce, we stared into each other's eyes as Sister Holland said, "I should have known this was going to be a place for white women to come spend too much money on sandwiches so they feel like they're rich and still stay skinny." Once you're done having lunch with your friends you can wander over to the small cookbook library, stocked with the latest celebrity chef's words of kitchen wisdom or pick up an imported chocolate bar for the grandkids. On your way out, walk past the extensive dessert and pastry case because your figure can't handle it. I lost out on getting a new pair of biking gloves because of the dough we dropped here. I'm not so sure it was worth the price.

I'm sort of dumbfounded by the less than positive reviews for this wonderful local restaurant. I've been there twice and I love the gourmet upscale take on a traditional deli. I always go early and will admit that it tends to get busy, but don't all great places? The chicken curry salad is fab and even better than that was the tomato brie sandwich with bacon added (at the staff's recommendation). delish.

The food is good, but WAY overpriced. Everything seems to be cold in the middle, or they don't heat it up at all. But the worst part is the service. It takes forever to get get rung up, and it always seems like mass confusion. I was really excited when this place opened, it looked like a place I could love, but each time we eat here we are reminded why we don't.

confusing. Could not find a menu at first, then found a piece of paper that was supposed to be the menu at the counter. huddled with 4 others to try to see it. I ordered a breakfast scramble and a coffee. They brought it over very quickly but the eggs were overcooked. I usually assume that a scramble comes with potatoes but this does not. The toast was really good; made out of quality bread. The coffee came in one of those large cups which I hate because if you can't chug all of it in one minute it gets too cold. I don't think it was worth the money, I spent 13 dollars and left hungry. Next time, I will go down a block to Big City Coffee where I can refill my own coffee when i want a warm up and leave with leftovers and a little money.

I am going to have a very hard time writing a good review for this place. And when I saw good I mean explaining what this place is really about. So far all of the food I have tried from pastries to pastas and sandwiches this place is so so good. Everything is from scratch and it's all very healthy. The only thing that really sucks in my opinion is the coffee, but then again don't necessarily take my word for it because as we all know, I am a die hard Starbucks lover The espresso they use is so strong and dark it's hard to taste anything but the bean, and I love strong espresso but it's not roasted correctly it's too dry and doesn't have the smooth rich oily after tastes. But then again I am accustomed to Starbucks like I said. The gift shop is great, and has some great stuff but I honestly would like to know who the hell would spend the money on the items I mean... It's like, ok Alexxander should I spend $35 for bath soap from some dead fossil in Italy or put gas in my car? Hmmmm.... Tough choice. And the food is really great but I honestly have a hard to wanting to buy any of it because it's all so expensive. I don't mind price, but the portions are literally the size of my hand. I bought some pasta salad and it was like half a pound for $12 I mean... why!? Is it made from gold? It tastes great but just yeah, a lot. Anyway I think this place is great really, but the price point just isn't right for what you get in my opinion.

Just arrived off the road to stop and enjoy some good food. Guess what? No power plugs for wifi, a business catering to make money from clients, but not providing wifi and plugs is a FAIL. It is a selfish arrogant position. The food looked great. But seeing plated wall plugs made me loose my appetite.

This place is as good as it gets in Boise Idaho. The staff are excellent! Very friendly and helpful. The food is great too. The baguette sandwiches are tasty and fresh. The Wi-fi is strong and there are lots of free outlets to use. It is one of the few upscale spots for breakfast in town. A'Tavola is without a doubt the best coffee and food cafe in Boise.

I want to love A'Tavola. I want to. With all of my local loving heart. But alas - anyplace that I can order two tiny things and be at a THIRTY DOLLAR ($30) pre-tax, pre-tip lunch, I just struggle to love. There is something mystical about trying to order from their deli cases. Order their 3 salad lunch, it's $13.00. Try to get that to go and you find yourself holding tiny containers and going "wait...wait...how are these $13 each?" While the wait staff tried to unconfuse me, I just wish they'd heard "I just want lunch to-go...that's all...at the same price of the lunch I could eat here." Perhaps if they used local ingredients...I'd feel a little differently (although for a $30 lunch, shouldn't there be a handmade table of reclaimed lumber sitting in a field adorned with fresh, locally sourced flowers?). Neat concept. Wish it was slightly more approachable for their more common faire.

Salads are excellent but with a little too much dressing , and the food in general is better than average but way overpriced. You can get a much better meal for example at 36th Street Bistro and Whole Foods for almost half the price and a better view.

I stopped by in late afternoon to browse the gift shop. The only thing I ended up purchasing was a chocolate shortbread cookie from the coffee/ pastry counter. It was thoroughly dried out and stale, and as best I could tell, would have had a disgusting flavor even had it been fresh. I choked down a couple of bites and then threw out the rest. I had asked the man at the counter whether the baked good are freshly made every day, and he said that most are not. That being the case, they should consider that this is a semi-desert climate and take measures to keep things from drying out too badly (not displaying them in the open air, for one thing!) This place did have some intriguing items that I might be back to try (polenta lasagna, for example!), but the prices are pretty steep.

I have no clue why there are so many negative reviews about this place! I guess if you are searching for a big greasy breakfast or lunch, then yes you will be dissapointed. This place is a foodie paradise! Very French, so yes portions are small, but filling. Everything is extremely fresh and delicious. They even carry Jeni's ice cream, which is the absolute best in my opinion! Can't wait to go back! One of my new favorite places in Boise!

Verbally abused by counter-worker at Shakespeare Festival location then lampooned by same counter-worker while I sugared my coffee 4 feet away. Food was decent however I am unlikely to approach the counter again!

Special, unique and delicious. From outside to inside, everything about A'Tavola is special. Lisa Peterson has built an incredible name for herself and a mouth watering menu. Everything on the menu is special and unique. Portions are small but probably appropriate. The merchandise/gift shop section is AMAZING! Definitely a great place to fine special, unique gifts for food lovers.

I love the little shop inside, as it has so many decadent choices of cookware, sauces, and sweets...but SO expensive! We stopped in for lunch, and the staff were very helpful with the menu. Gluten-free choices were also available, which was fantastic for my mum. I tried the French ham and emmental cheese sandwich, with a sweet, spicy mustard, which was good, but a far cry from the croque monsieur sandwich my husband got...SO good. Chipotle chick pea salad from the deli case was also a clear winner. I wanted to try the blood orange mousse they had in the bakery case, but at $6 a pop, it was too expensive to take the plunge.

Late lunch. Sandwich BLET was ok, but the bread was a baguette that was so tough that every thing squeezed out. Wife's turkey sand had the same bread, same problem. And turkey tasted old and lettuce was brown on edges. We asked about other breads, but we're told No by a blond with a sour disposition. Then, saw another sandwich with different bread. Hate to be lied to. Food no that great, especially at high prices. Won't be back.

I REALLY wanted to like the place and I feel bad for leaving a low review, but I was extremely stressed out by the inability to use outlets. I don't even remember the price or the quality; I was just too taken aback by being denied access to electricity. I had to shovel down my food then leave for another place with power provided since it was a busy day. I hope the policy changes because I would love to frequent that patio.

A friend and I had our entire day planned out - we were going to spend several hours working on project and wanted the perfect place, which we thought was A'Tavola. We planned to start the morning with breakfast and end our time there with lunch. The only problem is that this place is not work friendly. . . or, friendly at all. There are no plug-ins and when we asked about plug-ins we were rudely told, "I am a small business owner and don't want to end up like Big City Coffee." I'm not sure why she even had to share that and could not have nicely said that she did not have plug ins. Or, maybe tried to figure out a way to accommodate us - a plug in in the back or in the bathroom if you need a quick charge. One or two plug-ins is not going to create loitering. This is the 21st century for goodness sake! This is just one in a line of several times the staff has been rude. We promptly headed over to Whole Foods where the staff was so welcoming, there are lots of plug ins, the view was amazing and the food was ever bit as good as A Tavola - and, cheaper!!! And, I can't say enough about the great service. I like to support local businesses, but I'm not going to support rude and arrogant. If you want great gourmet deli-style food, head over to Whole Foods or the Boise Co-op. My point was driven home because when we went into A Tavola at 10:30 am - there was only one other person in the entire place. Whole Foods was packed with people eating, drinking, working and socializing. It was great!
