I liked the fainting goat - if nothing else for the fun name. it made it stand out from the other burger and beer joints in town. Definitely need to check it out.

The food here is poor quality. I feel like this is the main line from elementary school. Premade and processed.

Not good at all. We had sandwiches. Both inedible. I don't know where they get the meat for the philly. Like shoe leather. Never again. Too bad as the place is adorable. I think if you went for drinks etc. it would do but not for an actual dinner when you are sober and hungry....

Probably a decent bar, but in terms of a restaurant, it was pretty lackluster. Potato skins were good but standard. Burger was overlooked. Good custom grilled cheese sandwiches.

This is a review for the restaurant; I have no intention of returning to experience the bar. I can't remember having a worse sandwich...the cheese-steak sandwich had two lousy slices of overcooked beef, cheaply processed cheese, and three small pieces of veggies (a strip of green pepper, a strip of onion, a piece of mushroom). The salad was colorless and old. The service was okay - the server was clueless to what an appetizing meal should look like but I blame management for her ignorance. The tables were not all prepped; my table was missing side plates and a bottle of ketchup. This establishment is a perfect example of what not to do if you are a local-family owned and want to remain in business for the long haul.

In the sea of chain restaurants that is Waverly, this is pretty good place for non-chain choice. Dad and I both had the breaded tenderloin sandwich was crispy on the outside and juicy in the inside, the way it should be. The sandwiches come with chips but if you want fries, you can upgrade for about a dollar. Our server was good attentive and made sure that our glasses were refilled without us having to ask. Initially, Dad had ordered the ice tea, but our waitress let us know that the tea ended up being too weak due to an issue with the brewing. She offered to get him another drink while another batch was brewed, but Dad just changed to a diet pop instead. So you may be asking why the 3 stars if the food and service was good, the problem was the bathrooms. We stopped within 10 minutes of the restaurant opening for the day and both bathrooms were not properly restocked. The women's restroom had the paper towel dispenser hanging open which made it hard to get the paper towels out. Dad said that the men's room had no paper towels in it at all. I'm sorry, but when you just open, there really is no excuse for this other than laziness/poor planning. Just pay more attention to making sure the little details are taken care of and you could have a place that is really impressive rather than it's okay.

I can't believe all the bad reviews! I am a regular customer and always have a great experience. It's not fast food- so if you want 5 minute processed food- hit the Burger King. Everything is cooked fresh, so you wait- but it's worth it! I love the Juicy Lucy, wings, bites, and by far the best pickle chips I've ever had. The staff is friendly and fast. They have some new whiskeys and fun specialty cocktails! They have a fishbowl drink too! Overall, staff, food, and drinks are top notch. When in the area, make sure to stop by- or if you're looking for a fresh and affordable sit down dining experience- take the trip to Waverly- you won't be disappointed!

For a bar this is the better places in town to get food that has taste other than bla. Oh and they have chive beer so that helps also

Two adults and four kids (ages 12 - 15), all well fed and happy upon departure. Service was excellent although they were not busy. My blackened chicken salad was excellent but I substituted honey mustard dressing for southwest ranch. Wings were delicious, the "original hot" were only modestly hot, but I eat sirracha like it's going out of style. The back room is a little interesting, looks like it transforms into a gentlemans club after hours but okay, it is a bar type restaurant after all.

Kitchen was slow on a not-looking-too-busy Friday night. My wife liked her fish fry. My shrimp were greasy (oil not hot enough). Average in every respect.

One of the things I love about taking road trips across this great country is sitting down in the mom and pop eateries to experience the local fare while supporting a business that doesn't kick profits up to a corporation a thousand miles away. However, with each of these attempts comes the risk of disappointment. If nothing else, Applebee's is at least consistent. McDonald's is too. And so it goes... We stopped in to take a break from the dusty trail and get some grub. The place had some decent review on Yelp and I was intrigued by the name "Fainting Goat" remembering the phenomenon on Mythbusters. My buffalo chicken wrap was oozing some liquid dressing that seemed like oily water with a hint of hot sauce. After a couple minutes of trying to eat the first half of the thing my plate looked like a bowl of soup. Read Rachel M's review for the description of the "Philly Cheese Steak." Anyone from Philly would have walked out and shed a tear at the sight of the thing. I'd send a plate of food back if I asked for a cheese burger and got a fish sandwich instead. However, in a systemic error such as this, it would only have been a waste of everyone's time to call attention to the wrongness that was our meal. Our waitress was pleasant and well attentive at least. I don't blame her. I blame the cook and the owner foremost. With the exception of the server, everything else about the restaurant is analogous to our food. Robert Irvine would frown and shake his head. We will not be back our next time through Iowa.

Took my family here while on a road trip. The food was good, but pretty much your typical bar food.

The Fainting Goat is a great locally owned sports bar with excellent wings, good burgers and a nice waitstaff

My friend and I enjoy the food here so much we ate there to and from Mason City on a trip this weekend. The tomato basil soup is as good as it gets. I personally loved the cole slaw which seemed to have a hint of horseradish in it. The overstuffed grilled cheese sandwiches are great (and yes, sloppy, but delicious). Friday night was homecoming for Wartburg College so it was packed and we ended up sitting at the bar in a very noisy place but that didn't detract from an enjoyable meal. The onion blades are different than your usual onion rings. I could eat them every day (although they need a little extra salt for my taste).

This is a pretty good place! I've had the food here, mostly appetizers, and thought everything was good. The bar area can get a little loud at night, but it is not nearly as jam-packed as another place in town. You can actually find a spot to sit and enjoy yourself here. Barstaff has always been cool as well. They have hard cider (lucky me!) but the best part is their totally awesome neon sign. You have to see it for yourself :)

Great family atmosphere, Great place for a big crowd. awesome parking, Big domestic beer selection and a menu that anyone can find something they will love. Price is on point and the food is very good......ok mgt/ownership has been sleeping last 3 visits have been average...at best....guess the place is slipping.

Very inconsistent food quality. Ordered a blackened chicken salad two weeks in a row... First one was great. Next week it was horrible and small. Left me hungry. Mentioned it to the waitress and she said sorry... It depends on the cook. No other rectification was offered. Just tough

Average bar food. Service leaves a lot to be desired. Staff is all college students that apparently don't need tips. Must be working to please parents.

Pretty good food, but service was less than great. Food was slow to come out and we hardly saw our waitress.
