Popeyes was one of my favorite restaurants when I lived in New Orleans ( one of many if you know New Orleans). When I moved to Iowa and lived in Cedar Rapids there really were no good fried chicken places so it's a pleasure to have moved to Waterloo and now have Popeye's fried chicken once again in my backyard.

Great chicken right before football game! My husband loves the Cajun Rice & I love the mashed potatoes with their special gravy. Only one place that can top this chicken..... home cooked . I love the Fanta soda option! I will be back!

I pass by here each time I go camping in the area... This is the only Popeye's for hundreds of miles and it's dang good. After about eight visits, I've noticed several things. The service is usually very good and the employees friendly. The food quality is generally pretty decent although at off hours your chicken might be a little old. Being calorie conscious, I get the "naked tenders" (skinless strips of seasoned chicken). These have to be cooked to order and are always fresh that way. They are very tasty, too. Try the Mardi Gras Mustard - it's a sort of honey mustard type dip that has lots of bits of mustard seed. Also, the blackened ranch dip is fantastic, too. The corn on the cob at Popeye's is to die for. The ears are large, sweet, and delicious. It's my favorite side dish though the potatoes and gravy are good, too. Make sure and complete the telephone survey on your receipt. It will get you two free pieces of chicken and a biscuit on the next visit (with purchase of a large beverage). It's a great deal. I do it on each camping trip - a nice lunch on the way out and a freebie when coming home - woo hoo!) This place beats the other chicken restaurant (started by the southern gentleman who with the goatee) hands down. The only downside is that Popeyes is a little pricey - I think the red and white bucket place has better "value" type meals. Other than that, I love Popeye's. YAY! I'm a fan!!

Great food here, however service here is incredibly bad. Never leave until you double check your order.. sometime too much food sometimes nothing of what your ordered. My family finds it comical when we go in to see what we will actually get after we order. Also we have experienced more then once our order skipped and never being made until we followed up after lengthy delay. Again always double check your order and bring a book if you are ordering for more then yourself. Not an exaggeration when I say never have we received what we ordered the first time.

I don't know why Sioux City doesn't have a Popeye's yet. I have to wait till I'm in Omaha or going through Waterloo. Best fast-food chicken, period. When I'm driving from Sioux City to Cedar Rapids, I always stop here. Usually on the return trip, I pick up an extra side of red beans and rice--it's even better after a day or two.

This review is more for my husband. I am not a chicken person, so I would never chose to eat at Popeye's. But... We don't have a Popeye's near us. My husband knew about this location. This is his favorite place to eat (any location). Food was great, service was great, etc. My only negative is that it was FREEZING in the building, my husband is never cold...but he was too. In November, in any building, you shouldn't need your winter coat on to eat. I am sure w'll be back if we're on our way through.

Why is it that Waterloo seems to have more retail than Cedar Rapids? It's just not fair, after all CR is the big dog in Eastern Iowa. The latest example is Popeye's Chicken, nowhere to be found in the Corridor area but it's here in Waterloo. I like Popeye's spicy chicken. Not that it's very spicy because it isn't, but for the crunchy coating and juicy, flavorful chicken. I like a place that sells whole hot peppers right on the counter and three of them went perfect for my three piece order. I have to agree with Bradford that Popeye's is a tad pricey. I paid $7-something for the 3-piece chicken combo that included a drink and just one side. I tired the Cajun fries which were ok. I'll prolly try a different side next time in the area.
