Certainly in the running for the best sandwich shop in the state. This place would be a solid sandwich shop in a major city, to find it in Marshalltown is an absolute gem. Meats and cheeses are fresh and flavorful, but it's really the sauces and spices that make this place stand out. The only thing that isn't fantastic is the bread, but the rest of their offering is so good that it doesn't bring it down. The fact that you can get a good sized sandwich for 5 dollars, or a huge one for 8, makes this place an absolute steal.
This place is super awesome, needed lunch in Marshalltown and checked my handy yelp app and this place caught my eye. Glad it did because this place rocks, hand made deli sandwiches and unsandwiches (no bread) sliced and built right in line. Super fresh and tasty subs. Large loaves of bread stuffed with all kinds of unique and regular combinations, get there as soon as possible!! You will not go back to the chain sub shops again in Marshalltown at least.
I'm from Minneapolis and have family in marshalltown and I have to come to this place every time I'm in town! Best subs ever.

Very tasty and at a great price. Cooked after my order so it was very fresh. Everyone in my party of 5 was satisfied, even the picky food eater. Pictures are available for every meal. Any food allergy seems that it can be accommodated.
Solid Thai, all there is in Marshalltown but it's all I need. Even taste good cold in the middle of the night..
Wow this place packs a punch! I am from Ames but work in Marshalltown and I can say that this is the best Thai I have ever had. Went in here over my lunch break and tried the red curry. It was surprisingly flavorful! I will definitely be back.

Zeno’s Pizza

109 E Main St
Marshalltown, 50158
Reviews:
This is a Marshalltown institution and should not be passed up if coming to town and looking for food. Zeno's is situated in an old downtown building that has been there for ages. The interior is rustic and probably hasn't been changed since the 1960s. The do not have a full bar but they do have beer on tap. Drinks aren't what you come here for however, you come for the pizza, and this is some of the best around. For those who haven't had it before, Zeno's pizza tends to be a little greasier than most pizzas, so if you're a health nut, you may want to keep moving on. It's this slightly greasier pizza that makes Zeno's so outstanding. I personally love the canadian bacon/pineapple pizza however their supreme is also excellent. In all honesty you probably won't go wrong with any toppings you get. Be prepared to pay for this pizza however. I recently ordered for take out a large pineapple/canadian bacon and a side order of cheese bread and the bill was over $30. So, in closing, great pizza that can't be missed, but a little on the pricey side. That pretty much sums it up.
Great pizza! Loving the updated wine and beer selections.
I love this pizza! The Zeno's special is the best!

Taylor’s Maid-Rite

106 S 3rd Ave
Marshalltown, 50158
Reviews:
As other reviewers pointed this is truly an IA institution. This is another place I make sure to visit each time I'm visiting family. Some of my earliest memories of Marshalltown are from Taylor's putting down 2 sandwiches and a chocolate milkshake. Doesn't get better than this. Do yourself a favor and go if you're in town. And don't request kecthup - rookie mistake.
Taylor's is by far the best of any of the Maid-Rites. All the other ones taste like saw dust to me but Taylor's is fantastic. Amazing flavor, smaller town charm, great service, and the best malts. My favorite quick place to grab a burger.
Dave S has it right. This place is an Iowa treasure - and anytime I'm visiting home (grew up in the state), this place is always on my itinerary. It really is a time-capsule and thank goodness they've never changed. They have maid-rites. (pickle, onion, and mustard are options - ketchup is banned). They have chili. They have malts. And they have pie. My standard order - get two maid-rites with everything (mustard/pickle/onion), get a chocolate malt, and get some raspberry or rhubarb pie.

Tremont On Main

22 W Main St
Marshalltown, 50158
Reviews:
I stayed in the hotel for 12 days and never saw another living soul, however the bed was very comfortable and the room was large and tastefully decorated. The main downside was that I had a do not disturb sign on my door which was repeatedly ignored and staff were no where to be found when you needed them.
We have stayed at the Tremont for the last two years. It is on the second floor of a century old building and in its prior life was offices for a law firm. It is a rare find. The rooms are large and furnished in plush excess. JP and Jen own and operate and are attentive to your needs. It has two restaurants on the street level with a bar. It would be perfect except for one thing. It has no elevator. If steps do not bother you STAY THERE.
Hotel is upstairs of the restaurant. Actually checked in at the bar. It is a boutique hotel. Clean, large rooms with comfortable beds. However gives you feel of bed and breakfast or staying at grandma house, because you can hear everything going on in hotel.

Quaint little hallway of a bar. An atmosphere that retains loyal customers and is unmatched by any other bar in town. It may be slightly outdated and small but it is always clean. A good place to sit and chat with some old timers.

YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Delish Chinese food. I am a vegetarian. I get the Sesame Tofu almost every time I am here. SO GOOD. Crispy tofu outsides and soft on the inside. Big enough portions that I usually get leftovers out of it. Super NOMS! Mega love. My vegan pal was visiting in town and she even found stuff on the menu to eat.
Affordable and tasty. Egg rolls were ok but the sesame chicken and hot and sour soup were great. Chicken was crispy and not soggy like most takeout. Would definitely come back. No delivery.
Showed up on co-worker's recommendation while on a business trip. Place was picked at lunch, but we still were sat right away and had our drinks quickly. Despite half the place being taken up by a large group, our orders were taken promptly and we had our soup in moments. BTW - If you're a fan of egg drop soup, this place does a great job. Prices are extremely reasonable (it was about $8 for a lunch special with soup, rice and wanton). I went with the sweet and sour chicken and it was pretty good. Not mind-blowing, but definitely worth the price and a good portion size.

What a wonderful restaurant. It was my first visit to Marshalltown and I was bit worried as I looked at the restaurant offerings. While more pricey than the chain restaurants, the fresh food, personal service, and excellent menu was a fantastic surprise! I need to stay in the hotel next time.
