My boyfriend and I decided to take a spontaneous trip to Dubuque. We came across the Redstone Inn and I'm glad we did. We arrived and I was suprised at the beauty of the mansion. It was clean and polished at every corner. Robert, the owner, was delightful, very accomodating, attentive, gracious and kind. He carried our bags to our beautiful room and greeted us whenever we left and came back. In the morning we were served a delightful breakfast in the dining room consisting of a quiche, a variety of fresh fruit, pastries, yogurts and your choices of juice, milk or coffee. Robert served all of us and entertained us with intriguing stories of the Redstone history. We had such a nice time. I would recommend to anyone traveling to Dubuque. You surely won't be dissapointed. Thanks again Robert!

My boyfriend and I went skiing in Dubuque this past weekend, and my only real requirement for a hotel was there be a nice soaking tub - this place delivered and then some. The two-person bath was a real treat. The owner was absolutely delightful - while we ate breakfast he regaled us with stories of the history of the Inn, and was incredibly friendly and helpful. Overall the Redstone is incredibly charming, well-priced, and in what appears to be a great location in downtown Dubuque - we'll definitely be staying again when next we're in town!

Stopped in here last week while I was in Dubuque and staying in Galena. Always looking for new and interesting places to stay so we stopped in to preview the beautiful building and was greeted by a rather hostile man who was not very forthcoming with any information and told me to go to his website. After that shabby treatment I would never stay here. Time for them to learn customer service.

The building is in need of repairs, the landscaping is in rough shape and the rooms are not clean. Add to that the idea that they make the bed with dirty sheets I was disgusted and will make sure to let others know that this is not a place to stay.

My wife and I were traveling back to Dubuque after some 26 years. We called the Redstone more or less at the last minute and were very happy to discover that they had rooms available. We were very pleased by the charm of the furnishings -- in the common areas as well as our room. The owner was friendly and attentive. The breakfast was wonderful, a combination of a freshly-made hot entree, and an ample Continental-style buffet. The coffee was French Roast-fresh and flavorful and re-fills were quick and plentiful, always a necessarily part of a great breakfast. We enjoyed our stay so much at the Redstone so much that we talked ourselves into staying an extra night and exploring the local shops a little more. If and when we return to Dubuque (hopefully before another 26 years), we hope to make the Redstone a part of plans.

This B&B was a great glimpse to the past. The historic charm of the building, the period decor of the governor's suite we stayed in, and the impeccable service made for an amazing trip. The owner could not have been more friendly and welcoming. He made every accommodation possible. This surprise from my boyfriend was an amazing way to spend Labor Day weekend.

Ah, the final stop on our tour of Dubuque, and what a treat it was. We called about 10-15 hotels that night, and all of them were booked. Holiday Inn, local establishments, best western, you name it. Thank goodness for this, because when I finally got through to the Redstone Inn & Suites we really ended up lucking out. I wanted something that was between $80-150 and that was hopefully close to the downtown. The guy on the phone had a thick accent but he was very nice and he I think brought down their normal price a bit and offered a room to us at $125 + tax. This included free parking in their lot right across the street, free hot breakfast, and he also asked me if I wanted a "feminine or masculine room". This got a chuckle out of me (and a slight worry hah), but we soon found out why he asked. When we got to the hotel it actually looked pretty adorable (probably the only time as a guy I'm gonna use that word). It's a nice three story Victorian place that looks like it's been there probably since the 17 or 1800's. The guy at the front desk works there with his family (they might be the owners) and he was helpful in getting us situated. He gave us two keys, one for the room and one for the front door (they lock up early), and led us to our room. After entering the place (and the room), you can tell right away that it has a bread and breakfast feel to it. This wasn't your average hotel, it had a strong personal feel to it. The room was great! It was incredibly spacious, with a big four-post queen bed with a cool old style frame. The decor was what was "feminine" about it, but really that just meant a lot of pink and a lot of knick knacks. Everything was setup like you were in some kind of historical home, and it really made it feel comfortable. We also had a small side room with tables and chairs, very much in the theme of a tea party (not to be confused with republicans). They had a panoramic photographic book of Dubuke, which I actually paged through and found to be pretty sweet. The best part - huge two person Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. My girlfriend and I took a relaxing bath in this in the evening and it was a nice surprise (especially given the cost of the room). The bathroom also had a normal shower and a separate door for the toilet area. In the morning I awoke to the smell of fresh eggs and meat wafting through the vents from three floors down. It smelled so good I did everything I could to contain myself until my girlfriend was awake :D. Finally, we went downstairs and walked into a pleasant room where a continental breakfast had been setup. It was pretty typical, cereals, yogurt, pastries, juice, etc. I was kind of hungry so at first I was disappointed that there wasn't any hot food, but as soon as we sat down with our snacks the lobby man brought out fresh plates with a gorgeous looking quiche and hot sausages (served directly to us). The quiche was delicious, as was everything else, and we left feeling more than satisfied. My only drawback here would be that the place was old, so some of it could probably be touched up a little. But if you can ignore that, it really was a nice cosy bed and breakfast with a great location (a few blocks from everything downtown). Definitely keep it on your shortlist if you're looking for a relaxing weekend for 2 in Dubuque. And thus, that concludes our wonderful trip to Dubuque! Great city, I want to go back already :) P.S. (They have free wi-fi and flat screen TVs if that's your thing)

A very nice building somewhat in need of repairs. Rooms were roomy and comfortable. Lack of elevators was a bit inconvenient. Breakfast was partially self-serve and okay. Good location about 1 mile from the Mississippi. Staff was super helpful and efficient.
