My favorite place to get Chinese ever! Always delicious! The best egg rolls, crab ragoons, sesame chicken, mandarin shrimp and twice cooked pork i have ever had! Honestly dont understand why they have such low reviews. After traveling to many places in trying lots of different Chinese restaurants this is by far the best one I've ever had!

This place is barely tolerable. The restaurant itself feels like a Chinese-themed high school cafeteria. All the waitresses are teenage white girls, the bus boys are Mexican, and the chefs I saw were white (I know it shouldn't matter, but you'd think you'd see a Chinese person at a Chinese restaurant). Our mixed drinks were painful to drink. My Long Island iced tea tasted like Kool Aid and gasoline. The food was probably the worst I've ever had at a Chinese restaurant. My cashew chicken tasted like bad Salisbury steak, I swear. This place is "popular" because Dubuque as a town does not have refined tastes. All the good restaurants close while ones like this stay open. Service is fast and friendly so they get a star for that, otherwise, this place is garbage.

Best Chinese food in Dubuque. Twice cooked pork and mandarin chicken are my favorites. Best egg rolls ever!

Lunch menu on a Saturday.... I'll give it 2 stars because the service was nice and fast; however, the food was so bad. I order sweet & sour chicken. It tasted as the chicken was either frozen or old. The lack of texture was horrific to bite into and worst to swallow. I come to visit here in Dubuque but maybe try somewhere else next time.

We ate here about 4 or 5 years ago but went passed this restaurant Friday....we loved the lemon chicken. Quick, clean, and very pleasant experience...

Bland. Oily. Not great. Egg drop was very unusual for a Chinese restaurant. Veggies didn't taste fresh.

Skip it. Even in Dubuque there is much better. Ordered extra spicy and NO heat. Soup had no flavor whatsoever. Fried wonton was good. In general, the sauces on all three dishes ordered where bland. Service was slow and spotty.

Their Mandarin Chicken rocks. This place is good, traditional Chinese food. Lots of options, pretty Americanized, but it reminds me of The Golden Wall (an old Sioux Falls, SD great Chinese spot). Recommend any time beyond Sunday brunch; their buffet on Sundays from 11-2 was ok. (not a lot of selection) and they don't do order from the menu at that time.... Get the mandarin chicken.;.) yummo.

House of China is not only my favorite place to get chinese, but it's one of my favorite restaurants...period. My husband and I live in Chicago now, but we make it a priority to get House of China every time we are back in Dubuque. The service is fast and the servers are extremely friendly and attentive. Lee is our waitress a lot of times and she's the best! Some of my favorite things to get are the Kung Bao Beef, egg rolls, egg drop soup, and the crab rangoons. I can't say enough about how delicious their crab rangoons are. I am actually disappointed everywhere else because they are SO amazing at House of China. If you live in the tri state area, I recommend getting House of China AT LEAST once a week. It's the best! :)

My favorite is chicken fried rice. It does not have soy sauce - it is white rice.

After having moved out of town to the East Coast, I haven't been to House of China in at least 4 months. Everyone told me that the food that was once good is now terrible. They were were right. My chicken fried rice was the most disgusting dish I have ever been served at this place. It used to be great, but now it's nothing but grease. After the waitress brought out my food, I refused it and asked if they had changed their recipe. She said no and I asked why there were no veggies in it. She took it back and brought out a new plate and said that she had mixed up a carry out order and mine. She put the plate in front of me and I literally found 2 peas and 1 carrot. I didn't feel like arguing so I tried to eat it and after two bites I stopped. There was entirely too much EGG and GREASE and it made me sick to my stomach. I have a feeling they just tossed a few pieces of vegetables on it and served it to me. I feel so disgusted about this experience that I WON'T return. I hear the owner is quite a tyrant and is extremely difficult to work for, so I guess they keep going through new chefs. They just lost one of their most loyal customers. What a tragedy. If I could give 0 stars I most certainly would.

My house of China experience was an okay one, especially considering my hungover/tired mood when I ate there. This was my first meal of the day, and I kind of wish I had something else. I must say, however, that I found their crab rangoon to be very delightful, and made perfectly. My mongolian chicken? Not so much. There was something lacking. It reminded me of a garlic chicken plate than a mongolian chicken. Oh well. Next time all around, I guess I'll avoid eating Chinese for breakfast when I'm hungover. I'll stick to a bowl of cheerios.

Oh, House of China. I'll admit upfront, the only time I eat at House of China is when I'm hungover. And that's the best time for some salty, fattening Chinese food. Their lunches include egg drop soup--which is amazing--and come with won tons, which are one of my favorite things on this planet. The Mongolian Chicken is to die for, in a hole in the wall Chinese place sort of way. I've had most of their chicken dishes and while they aren't anything to write home about, they are the perfect solution to the morning after a rough night. The decor is really cheap and silly, though I do enjoy rubbing the big Buddha's belly every time I go in. Certainly not the best Chinese in the world but it will always have a special place in my heart.

The food was OK I have had better. I like the vegetables in the Vegetables Egg Foo Young and Fried Rice. I did not like the fried rice was white rice with vegetables.

I'm from Chicago and now live in the tri-states and can say don't bother going to House of China. I have been there several times and each dish ordered has not been impressive. The last time I went I ordered a dish that had mushrooms in it. I wasn't a happy camper when I realized the mushrooms were canned. There is nothing wrong with canned mushrooms, but when you are running a restaurant and so many of the dishes require fresh vegetables then mushrooms should also be one of them.

Stay away!! horrible service by the Chinese server, on the verge of being rude. the food is so so, will never eat there again!

Good taste on their take out, the pot stickers were wonderful, and the Mongolian Beef was good, if a little too onion filled for my taste. Came highly recommended from locals.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
