Delicious! Great Vietnamese food at very low prices!

My husband liked his pho, but this review is written on the strength (or weakness) of the bun. This is generally one of my favorite dishes, but the version here is virtually flavorless. The pork needs seasoning, the spring roll tasted frozen, and there was no flavor to the fish sauce even after adding chili sauce. Definitely needed more mint etc. Overall, it tasted like what I would expect out of Vietnamese food in Iowa.

I only had the appetizers but they were good and the staff was friendly. This restaurant had unique interpretations of several common dishes. The Nem was neither pickled nor did it contain ham, so basically a grilled pork patty but not bad. The banh cuon had lettuce inside the roll and had scallion oil drizzled on top also not bad. The papaya salad was meh. I will be back to try the dinners.

Came to this fine establishment on a lazy Sunday for the well reviewed lunch special and I must say it lived up to the billing. I'm from jersey and the Vietnamese food here definitely holds it's own. We got the Saigon pho with spring and egg rolls. All were expertly crafted to Vietnamese goodness. Will def come back before I leave town.

Solid Vietnamese food and friendly staff. A nice selection of vegetarian options and great meat dishes too.

I'm a big fan of Vietnamese food and this little gem is a local favorite of mine. They have developed a following for consistently good food and have recently upgraded their menu to include bahn mi sandwiches. I order the pho saigon almost every visit so it's hard for me to try other things on the menu. I also saw that they have started a "Pho Challenge". It's not for me but good luck to those who try!

Had the Pho and spring roll. Sooo good. Will be coming back, highly recommend. Very casual dining, clean, friendly.

Best lemongrass beef I have ever had. Small, not busy, not fancy. But the food, and presentation, are excellent.

My husband and I have been to Saigon Bistro a half dozen times over the past 2-3 months and have not been disappointed yet. We've tried a different appetizer and each had different entrees at every visit. The soups are hearty and filling. The bento boxes are an awesome size and offer a great variety of food, which is great for someone who wants a little of everything. It comes with a meat/sauce, rice/noodle, dumpling, shrimp chips, soup, and salad. The dumplings are really crispy and two perfect bites of fried goodness. We haven't tried the hot pot yet- we're waiting to go with a larger group, but I would venture a guess to say it will be tasty. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for an excellent meal.

Hidden gem, and surprisingly delicious food. Nice people! Recommend Pho and also Sigon Broken Rice w/ Grilled Pork.

  • Brieana W.

Not sure what I can say other than this was my first time eating Pho and I will definitely be coming back to make up for lost time! Edited to add- I've tried the pho at 2 other restaurants closer to my home and the bowl I had at Saigon Bistro is the best, by a long-shot!!

Truly authentic Vietnamese food, good prices, pretty good servings (lunch menu is a great deal) and hands down the best bowl of Pho you will find in the QC. The fella who runs the place is very kind, and delivers excellent service to his customers. Definitely a spot worth checking out for lunch of dinner if you're in the area

    (5)
  • Brandon S.

For those in the know, I have seen the Chef's from many of the QC's fine dining establishments enjoying the awesome cuisine here. Expand your horizons, this place is awesome.

    (5)
  • Justin H.

Well this is different. I do not have the knowledge of how "authentic" the food is here, not having Vietnamese before. What I do know: It is good! It is defiantly not Thai (not that Thai is bad. It just seems people think not Chinese it must be Thai). Most of all it's not Hy-vee or the same Asian sweet and sour pork nuggets you get anywhere. They look like they put a lot of care into their dishes.

Full disclosure: I am not at all familiar with Vietnamese food. I have no basis with which to compare the food here. That said: My family and I were very satisfied with our meals. The seating was a little awkward if you have a party larger than 4. They had to move tables around. The place was empty when we got there on a Sunday at lunchtime, but it ended up filling up. Hubby and I both tried some noodle soup... I had the egg noodles, and he had the Pho noodles. I really enjoyed my soup... very flavorful, although somewhat reminiscent of Ramen soup if it weren't for the extra ingredients. There was a selection of fresh ingredients to add in, as well as what was in it already. Son had a dumpling soup... I tried half a dumpling and I really liked the taste. Daughter had some fried rice. She enjoyed it, especially with the fried dumplings that came with it. Only negative thing I will add is that there were egg shells in it, as if someone had an issue breaking the eggs when adding them in... but it was ok... it does happen, and I'm hoping it isn't the norm. We also tried the Saigon rolls... We all liked them and agreed we would order them again. This place is near my work. I see they do take-out... I'm anxious to give it a go on a workday!

Stopped in for a quick lunch after finding it on yelp. Service was exceptionally fast and polite. Got the spring rolls, they were solid. Then ordered the Lava Beef, the hottest dish they offer, it was very good. While it's hot l, it still has flavor and was not hot just for the sake of being hot. I will definitely be returning when ever I am in town. Price point is low, I got out of there with a main course, 2 apps, and a iced coffee for $20. They do offer lunch deals which offer even more value I wanted to move more freely around the menu. If you're around and thinking about it, just go. Great place!

Maybe I set my expectations too high for this place when I read that someone said "Best Pho in Iowa!" Maybe it's because it's the only pho in Iowa. We got our food to go, and perhaps that played a part in the food. *Note: I could throw the Vietnamese words of the foods around very easily to demonstrate my knowledge of the culture, but I'll spare you since it bothers me when others do it! Traditionally, egg noodle soups don't have dumplings in there, they have wontons. The dumpling fillings were not comparable to those of wontons. Broth was rich enough. I've had a hankerin' for egg rolls for quite some time now, and these did not hit the spot. It was like a cross between Chinese and Vietnamese egg rolls. Wrapper was Vietnamese and filling seemed mostly Chinese. Brother had the grilled chicken rice plate, and it's just not comparable to what we had down here. Dad had the pho with meatballs and said it was awful. (And he's not a complainer! Though, he also doesn't care much for Iowa.) It's also expensive for Viet food, but that's probably because you can't get it anywhere else. Overall, the food is edible. It may hit the spot for Viet food if this is your last (or only) resort.

Pho was very good. The broth has depth without being murky, and the meats were good. The staff was nice and efficient.

We went to this restaurant due to the 4 rave reviews on Yelp. Unfortunately we believed those reviews and they may have been accurate when they were written. However, we just had the most unsatisfying meal there. We got there at around 6PM and the first clue was that we were the only ones in the restaurant. We should have left, but the great reviews still convinced me to go in. We ordered a Chicken Pho to share while we considered the menu. The soup was a little on the small size compared to almost every other Vietnamese restaurant we have been to (probably a dozen located all over the US). It came with a tiny plate of bean sprouts and piece of lime. Most restaurants serve a large platter of these plus basil. We ordered beef rice sticks and stir-fry dishes for dinner. Mine came out hot but my wife's was ice cold. It was like it had sat in the kitchen for 15 minutes while they made mine. We sent it back and they must have heated it in a microwave. It had very few vegetables and a rather strange tasting sauce. The plate was quite small. They should raise their prices and improve the quality of their food. When we left there was 1 other couple in the restaurant. Other asian places nearby were packed. Stay away - It looks like they will soon be closed.

Wow... we first tried this place right after it opened, and thought it was just ok... finally went back and boy were we surprised! This is just awesome Vietnamese food, simple as that. We both had the pho P1, spring rolls, and dumplings, quite good. A friend also recommended the M1 noodle bowl too. The bun (Vermicelli) looked good, probably try that next time. Good little restaurant, great to have some different ethnic food in the quad cities.

  • Rocio K.

My tofu over noodles was fresh, light and good taste. Nice plate presentation. My husband's pork was Ok. My toodler eat most of it (except some veggies, uff). I have a sweet tooth so I order the coffe with condensed milk ; I loved it.

    (5)
  • Lauren G.

The bun (vermicelli salad) is INCREDIBLE. I've never had anything here I didn't like.

    (5)
  • KW L.

Surprised to find this place in Iowa. I had the egg noodle dish (dumpling noodle soup) which was very flavorful. We also had the rice rolls which were tasty as well. The prices are completely reasonable and the service was friendly. I would definitely come back for a meal here any day of the week. Yes, maybe not the most authentic vietnamese place i've been too, but the food is flavorful.

In the Quad Cities, rarely does a Vietnamese restaurant last for long before it sadly gets ran out of business by the steak and potato joints around town or just couldn't entice customers enough to try out Vietnamese food. Saigon Bistro on the other hand is a top notch place and the exception. I deeply enjoy the family ran service and the food here is great. Every time I've been, without a doubt, I've ordered Pho Tai Bo Vien and Spring Rolls with the family. Sometimes, I have gone for the fried chicken wings which are GREAT as well. Ultimately, if you're getting bored with the Hy-vee Chinese and local Chinese takeout, I'd strongly suggest adding Saigon Bistro to your Asian cuisine list.

  • Curt W.

I love the pho! I get takeout every time so I can't comment on the restaurant experience. Great value since the soup comes in a separate container from the veggies, you can easily get two lunches out of one $8 purchase and it's still fresh and seems like very healthy food. I will say though that they used to have great chicken wings but not anymore...wish they'd bring the old wings back~! UPDATE: Had the wings again recently and they were back to being delicious. Seriously best wings in town. Looks like they listen to customers' opinions :)

  • Mike D.

I love this place. I get the pho every time and have always found it to be delicious. Granted, I'm not a pho expert but I have eaten it while traveling in Asia and enjoy the pho here as much as I did during my travels. I would also recommend the pork rice rolls and fresh saigon rolls for appetizers. Dip the rice rolls in some hoisin sauce and the saigon rolls in the fish sauce provided; excellent.

A very simple place with great food. Lemongrass chicken is great, pho is excellent.

What gem, just when I thought davenport had no pho ga, SiaGon Bistro has the best, great dumplings , and crispy rolls highly recommend !!!

Visiting the family, we decided to try Siagon Bistro for a late lunch. We split some appetizers (the fresh spring roll and the shrimp rolls), and got out meals, two of us had the stir fry noodles and two had the vermincelli noodles. Everything was delicious. I can't wait to go back!

  • Robert M.

Excellent food, friendly staff, low cost. What more can you ask for? The food had FLAVOR, which is a rarity in the Quad Cities. This place needs more business, because it definitely deserves it!

    (5)
  • Oldschool K.

Okay to start up. The spring rolls was good but the sauce for the spring roll was really bad. No kind of flavor at all. I got the pho stake n beefballs. The broth was great but my noodles were left to boil to long . Noodles was to soft. The coffee with condense milk was great.

  • B I.

one of the very few Vietnamese places in the quad cities. the shrimp noodle soup is great & so is the pho. it is one of the best flavored pho's that ive had. the portions here are big, enough for 2 meals, the menu is big but not nearly as big as a chicago-area viet restaurant. stop going to terrible chain & fast food restaurants & come to places like this or they wont stay in business like most of the other non-mexican ethnic restaurants do in this area.

Saigon Bistro has the best Pho in Iowa!! The staff was excellent considering I walked on late. I will definitely stop again when I travel to Davenport.

Wonderful find on the road to St. Louis! Delicious pho, crunchy tasty dumplings and lovely spring rolls. Lots of fresh veggies! Very pretty little bistro and nor staff. Will definitely come again!

Vietnamese food can be very good if it is made right. This place has done it right. I don't usually like the ambiance of an ethnic food place because it is almost always mediocre at best. This place is a little different. They have done a very good job with this place. They have diner like sitting. There is some private space for a date and a large group alike. Food is delicious. I would strongly recommend their spring rolls and noodle dishes. These are made with mixed ingredients (veg. and animal products) but you can ask them to make it in vegan and they will not disappoint you. Portion sizes are great and you will definitely enjoy their food even the next meal.

We were passing by and wanted to grab a bite to eat. I yelped for pho and this is the only pho spot for Davenport. Came in here because they had high ratings. We walked in around 3pm and didn't see any customers. Didn't think anything of it and ordered. The food came out 10 minutes later. My Husband ordered the pork vermicelli and it looked gross. The bean sprouts and the mint they put on top for garnishing looked so old. The mint was almost a black color and the bean sprouts were slimy. Of course my Husband isn't going to eat it so he picked it out. My bowl of Pho Bo Vien tasted so bad that I couldn't even take 2 bites. I'm still so thirsty from those two bites because of the amount of MSG in it. I'm 100% Vietnamese and believe me...this isn't the way Vietnamese food is suppose to taste. I live in California and if they were ever to open their restaurant in LA or San Jose they would have been out of business a long time ago. I really don't like to leave bad reviews but if it's really bad, I feel the need to...so others won't waste their time and money coming into an establishment like this. If you don't know what authentic Vietnamese food is suppose to taste like...this is the place for you.

The food reminds me of viet food I'd get back in New York. The pho is good, as was the vermicelli bowls. Recently came back and got a bento box that had some good beef, as well as a delicious pork banh mi. Do recommend for some good Asian food.

  • Mandy B.

I don't know if I was more pleased with the Pho or just the fact that there's a really good Vietnamese restaurant in Davenport! The pho sai gon was delicious- the broth was everything it's supposed to be. Rich, flavorful, complex. I only got one half a meatball but I didn't really care. The lunch special is a great deal and I ordered a side of spring rolls just to try them. They were great. I live in Chicago and frequent Vietnamese town there... this was on par with anything I've had in that area. Great job Davenport!!! I'll gladly come back for work. The decor was typical asian style restaurant. Nothing to write home about. But overall clean and comfortable.

Great Pho and spring rolls! The staff is very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. We have a great experience every time we go and have never been disappointed. We have gone time and time again and it is always fantastic!

Three of us came to this Vietnamese restaurant for lunch after noticing a string of raving reviews on Yelp. With natural lighting penetrating the front door windows, the décor was underscored by its grey tiled floors, red and beige walls, and dark brown tables to bring about a clean and orderly atmosphere. At the time, there were only two other diners at the restaurant. The vibe was quiet and casual as we sat and chatted close to the windows by the door. The Nem Nuong ($3.99) was advertised on the menu as ground pork skewers, but it turned out to be two flat pork patties nicely seasoned and garnished with carrots, bean sprouts, green onions, and peanuts. The iteration of Nem Nuong was drastically different from those that looked like a pork sausage or skewers of meatballs, and prompted me to verify if we got the right dish. Taste-wise, the ground pork appeared fatty and the seasoning tasted too light. It could really use a deep lemongrass and fish sauce flavor to anchor the lifts stemming from the fatty pork. It was also not a good dish to split between three people, and I wished the server would say something about it at the time of ordering. The Pho Tai ($7.99) came with beef slices on the side, fresh veggies, and rice noodles. The broth was very weak and lacked the deep bone marrow flavors and complex seasoning to provide that deep desirable aroma. The quality of the beef was decent, and the selections of veggies were quite standard. My friends liked their pho, but there are many other superior places, including Aroy-Dee, a Des Moines establishment that many Yelpers tend to overlook. Service was minimal and limited to taking our order, bringing the food, and the check. It was a quick lunch as we got back on the road soon after the visit. Due to the high pho prices, small portions, and poor quality, I won't be coming back.

4.5 stars for the food, 4 stars overall. Driving through to Chicago, we made a stop for lunch. This place is unassuming and not fancy, but it is clean and the food was tasty. The spring rolls were solid, served with a great dipping sauce. Pot stickers were fairly good. The real star was the Pho. I had the Pho Saigon (brisket, eye of round, meatballs). The broth was some of the best broth I've had. Great flavor, lots of different spices. If I lived here, this place would be on my regular rotation.

Today is Chinese New Year. It's about -20F outside. I order beef hot pot to pick up, then add some vegetables I have at home! Delicious! Warm! Happy! Happy sheep year to everyone! :)

Davenport has a place they can be proud of!! They have an awesome lunch special, $5.99 for pho and dumplings what a nice deal. I have got that a few times and always leave full. The pho is great and the broth is rich and full of flavor. Real good stuff here, I am not sure if there is another place in town but place can hold the title for the Quad cities. Eggrolls are okay, as well the sweet and sour. The dumplings are a better way to go here. But the pho is on point here.

  • Eddy L.

With the limited selection of pho in the area this is a nice place to satisfy that pho craving.

I was in the Quad Cities for the half marathon and as we were leaving town, we decided to try this place. They have a HUGE menu. But they were out of a lot of the stuff that Sunday morning. We tried to order spring rolls, but they told us they were out. My friend tried to order a smoothie and they were out of that too. It was 12pm on a Sunday so I'm guessing they weren't out because they had sold out for the day but because they hadn't purchased enough ingredients with their last order. They did, however, have the pho lunch special which we both ordered. It came with a bowl of hot pho and 5 dumplings. It was really well priced at 6.99. The pho broth was tasty and it had slices of beef, but it did not come with the more interesting pieces of cow like tendon, tripe, etc. I would come back, but I wasn't wow-ed.

For those of you traveling through Iowa on I80 or I74, this is a fairly easy on and off. If you, like me, are an Asian food fan, this will be a treat, compared to the ubiquitous fast food chains. The service is fast and efficient. The menu has an extensive variety of choices. There are lunch specials, called Bento boxes for $5.99. You choose steamed or fried rice, or noodles. Then you select a protein and sauce. The box meal is served with either a soup or salad, 2 fried dumplings and a couple of crunchy shrimp chips round out the meal. The portions are reasonable, and will satisfy all but the truly ravenous. These would be perfect for those on a diet. Saucing is very minimal and veggies are crisp and colorful. Nothing was exceptional, but nothing was bad either. That being said, even bland Asian food is far superior to fast food.

  • Andy E.

Based on the Yelp reviews, I must have caught this place on a bad day. The Saigon rolls were basically nothing but onion, and the pork with glass noodles was marginal at best. The pork on it was some pre-formed patty with fake grill marks. I couldn't eat it. The seasoning on the noodles was pretty good, so that's about all I ate. Not going back.......

  • Filipe F.

Great place for Vegetarians! Lots of options and they are flexible on substituting any meat for Tofu! I was stuffed with the veggie Pho, which was spiced to perfection, no Hoisin sauce needed! But the spring rolls were to kill for, had to orders! I would rate 5 stars, however the Thai tea was lacking it's perfectness. But I'm definitely stoping by again.

  • Dawn W.

Excellent PHO. Very tasty. Lots of variety. Kids love the chicken nuggets. Friendly and welcoming. Fair pricing for the amount of food you get ( a lot ). Love to come back and try something else besides the PHO. Several kinds of beer available and Pepsi products. All around a great place for a quiet meal or a family meal also.

  • Akash M.

I really can't understand all the 5 star reviews. My experience was just okay. I ordered take out from here. They give you a choice between white rice, udon noodles, crystal noodles, and egg noodles. Out of these, udon and crystal were not available. You then get to choose your protein and sauce. However, the protein is not cooked with the sauce. They are both served separately. The sauce is served in small plastic containers and the portion size is not enough. I have never seen thai or Vietnamese food served like that. It was also lacking in flavor. I also got a couple of rice "crispies", which were really soggy. All in all it was nothing to write home about. Will not return.

Sweet authentic Vietnamese food. Po is great. Bring me back to nam in 2011. Beautiful culture and flavors. Server was nice. Surprised it has been so popular in iowa. Will be back when i get the hankerin' for a hot bowl of meat and noodles.

Decent pho with a good amount of meat in it. And the Lemongrass chicken was pretty good as well (recommended by our waiter). I haven't had lemongrass chicken before though, so I can't say I'm the best judge of how it compares to other ones. But the taste was good, unique ... just a bit on the salty side though. Nothing that a good amount of rice can't fix. Wish the portions for this were a bit bigger though. Waiter was friendly and talked to us a bit. Service was really quick too (though we were the only people in the restaurant at one point since we had a late dinner). Will definitely come back to try some more things on the menu.

  • Terri N.

The decor is very classy. My husband and I shared steamed pork dumplings for an appetizer. Fantastic. He had soup with beef and meatballs that came in a beautiful large bowl. The soup had a delicious cilantro flavor. I had Lemongrass Chicken, served with egg pancakes which are crispy, similar to a fortune cookie, and - hallelujah - more dumplings. The presentation of the food was beautiful. Bill's Saigon coffee was good and my Thai tea was interesting - orange in color and sweet. In short, it was the best meal I have had in a long time and I will definitely visit again. This is a restaurant that makes me want to tell everybody that they need to try it!

Wow very impressed! Never would you expect authentic Vietnamese cuisine in the quad cities but its here! I've traveled the world and this is the real deal...in the states California has a few places that rival here but that's it. Try the rare beef pho and you will be hooked. The decor could use some help but don't let that turn you off.
