Decent thai food. A bit expensive imo.

So after not being able to go to our first pick in restaurants, we ended up at the exotic Thai restaurant. The staff here were great and very attentive. The food also came out within 30 minutes which was great. I had the Thai tea lemonade and it was pretty good. Tasted like iced tea with lemonade. For the food, I ordered the peppercorn chicken, which was grilled chicken, rice, and vegetables in a buttery garlic sauce. I am warning you, the portions are huge and the chicken was drowning in sauce. Overall the dish was ok but kinda bland. On the other hand, my friend ordered the crispy mango chicken. This was dish was exquisite! The chicken tasty like orange chicken but better! I definitely recommend this dish and will be ordering this for myself next time.

This place is fabulous! We dropped in late on a Thursday evening, so the space wasn't too crowded. The menu has unique offerings that come in generous portions. My dining partners and I split the Miang Kam and the Fresh Roll. Both were simple yet amazing. For my entree, I opted for the Spicy String Beans - your choice of meat (I went with the tofu) flash fried with green beans, snow peas, roasted cashew nuts, ground peanuts, and kaffir lime leaves in a mildly spicy red sauce. Though the tofu itself left something to be desired, the rest of the dish was impeccable! I would definitely make a return visit!

I love this place! Not as much as I love their "sister" restaurant, Lemongrass, but I love this place. While Lemongrass is a great destination for lunch, Exotic Thai is where you want to do for a nice dinner or a date. It's not too pricey, the staff is great and the food is awesome.

It was actually really difficult for me to decide what to try, because each description on the take-out menu sounded more savory than the next. Usually I stick to Pad Thai for my first order at a new-to-me Thai place, but I was too tempted by the spicier alternatives, so I took the plunge. When they said spicy, they meant spicy! The three-pepper rated meal (a.k.a. Native spiciness) was almost too much for my poor burning lips! I only did takeout, so I cannot comment on service, but the waiter who took my order and my payment was very nice, and the inside of the restaurant was modest yet somewhat elegant. I noticed a "free wi-fi" sign, and I envisioned myself enjoying a meal on their small outdoor patio (on a less snowy day than the day I had come). I had not expected my meal to come with a small serving of soup, so that was a nice surprise... it was full of fresh veggies and a little bit of meat. I shall definitely return. I would like to eat in rather than grabbing my food on the run, and this place looks so inviting to just enjoy oneself at an actual table (rather than back at my office desk!). To update, I did return with the husband, and we had a great dine-in meal. The service was ok overall, although I've had better. The waiter was nice, but not entirely attentive. Nonetheless, I'll likely be back. They took our reservation with no issues, and there was a table ready when we arrived. We've had takeout several times now... I've had some of the most amazingly savory dishes. I've also had a couple that were fine but they did nothing for me overall. There are definitely some five-star dishes here, but there are a few three or four star dishes... The trick will be to find the ones you love and go from there. I think I'm going back to the first few dishes I've tried...

Great Food! Wonderful Service! Amazing Prices! One of my fave restaurants!!

I gave it a second chance and was still blown away by the lack of flavor in the Pad Thai. So, I added lots of bottled peanut sauce and Sriracha hot chili sauce from the grocery store. This produced a pretty alright tasting pad thai, although it tells me that I can pretty much just make this all at home instead of paying $10 for the noodles and bean spouts at Exotic Thai.

Really good Thai food along with other Asian cuisine. The wait staff is very friendly. As others have said, the actual restaurant is on the small side. Some menu items are on the pricey side but overall most dishes are a good value. Generally my go-to dish is the pad thai noodles. I've had it many, many times and its always tasted fantastic (if you've never had it before ask for the pepper sauce on the side, it can be extra spicy depending on who prepared the dish). If you're looking for a casual, intimate meal, try out Exotic Thai.

Just tried Exotic Thai tonight with my wife and some friends. We were looking for somewhere new in the area, and settled on this restaurant. The food was exceptional. My wife was originally concerned that the Thai food might be too spicy, but we found the items that were hotter marked specially on the menu. I ordered the Garlic Black Pepper Chicken, my wife ordered the Teriyaki Thai Chicken, and our friends ordered the Mango Chicken and Drunken Noodles. We were all very happy with our meals and agreed that we would be coming back again.

I took a friend out for her birthday, she picked out the restaurant. There is a very nice atmosphere, very warm and cozy. The staff was friendly and very helpful in explaining what the things on the menu were. Since this was a first time I ever had Thai food, we got the sampler plates. There was enough on the appetizer and the main entree for two people to share. The meat vegetables and sauces were excellent, the shrimp and the calamari were both overcooked and a little pricey. overall it was a very pleasant experience.

I'm rarely ever in Iowa, but was in town this past weekend to see my friends boyfriend make his debut at an MMA fight. Prior to the event we stopped here for a late lunch. There was seven in our party and they were able to accommodate us quite well. Everyone in our party enjoyed their food. I had the Broccoli with Beef and it did not disappointment. The beef was tender and the broccoli was sautéed well. A notable mention also goes to Thai Tea. It had a hint of sweetness and was refreshing. Great place to stop at if you are in town or live in the area.

Amazingly delicious food, priced right with a totally authentic Thai atmosphere. The restaurant is very quaint and comfortable; not overly crowded. The price point was mid range as was expected and a great value. I highly recommend the Basil rolls to start your meal. I had the Khao Soi - an authentic northern thailand curry noodle dish that arrives with a complex mix of vegetables and curry flavor. I chose chicken for the protein but pork, beef, tofu, and seafood are available as well. This is a level two in terms of heat they serve (up to three) so I enjoyed asking for extra jalapeño, and chili pepper relish to spice it up even more... Yum!!! The hot green tea accompaniment was perfect. Service was excellent. One of the best places I've dined across the mid-west in a long while! Will definitely return the next time I'm in Davenport.

Very consistent Thai food. This is the best Thai I have found in the Quad Cities. The Yum Nua salad is great and the new street food they have on the menu is worth trying. We usually eat there for lunch and have no trouble getting in and out on time. Highly recommended.

We picked this place to eat based on the ratings of my fellow yelpers. I agree this is a good choice to eat when passing through this town. We had the Thai ice tea and it was not the best I've had... However, the main entrees were very good. We tried both the Tom Yum Gai and Tom Ka Gai and we were happy with each (I liked the Tom Ka Gai a little more). For people that eat a lot of Thai soups, it was a bit different because the mushrooms that were used was not what traditional is used from personal experience; also, it had tomato chunks in it but I love tomatoes in about everything so that was not a problem for me. Now for the main entrees, here's what we tried: Pad Thai w/ Chicken & Shrimp (very tasty!) Red Curry w/ Chicken (also tasted good) Pumpkin Curry w/ Seafood mix (the curry pumpkin was good but I'd recommend not selecting a seafood mix for the meat as it did not really seem to blend as nice as it may go with other meat choices) Deserts: Sticky Rice w/ Mango - an acquired taste for sure. I personally would not order that again. Was not really sweet but a strange mix. Banana Crepe w/ Ice Cream - the vanilla ice cream was the sweetest part of this dessert. It's a good dessert choice for anyone that does not want a dessert that's too sweet. The service was excellent!! Yes, I would recommend giving this place a visit.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the Quad Cities. The service is always great, even on busy nights and the food is excellent. I especially enjoy the lettuce cups as an appetizer, and their mango crusted chicken is amazing. The wine selection is a bit limited, but the wines they have are decent and at a fair price (for a restaurant at least).

Best Thai food I've had in a long time, and o live in Chicago! My favourite appetiser is the spring rolls. And you can't go wrong with any of the soups!

This is a great place to get thai food if you are in the area. I drive through the QC a lot, and frequently stop here for lunch. They are quite authentic. Their menu has a good variety of dishes, with all of the basic Thai entrees that you would expect, as well as some of their own concoctions. Most of the entrees are around $10. Their dishes could use a little bit more spice, however. But otherwise I would recommend this place.

  • KW L.

Probably should be more like 3.5 stars. I would say one of the better thai restaurants in the quad cities. It think it's definitely better than Kong's. In general the food here is a bit more flavorful compared to the other thai places in town. Thai should not be bland! Pad thai, Pad see yew are pretty solid here. Gai sam rod was pretty good as well. If you like spicy food, you may want to tell them that you want it REALLY spicy.

We found this restaurant almost by accident when they first opened and we were hungry travelers on our way to St Louis. I had the Kang Dang curry with chicken and my husband had drunken noodles with seafood. It was amazing then and it was amazing today. We make a point of dropping in when we are near.

In the midst of our road trip Fia R. and I discovered this Thai restaurant on the Yelp app and proceeded to stop by for dinner. To our surprise, the restaurant had an inviting dark wood décor accentuated by all-around dim lighting, white tablecloths, and a small bar area in the back. The ambiance was cozy but also very quiet, as they don't seem to get a lot of businesses in this area. We started off with the Pumpkin Curry with Tofu ($10.95) that came with creamy savory panang curry, fried tofu, bell pepper, and basil. Initially I thought the combination of pumpkin and tofu would come out bland, but the curry had full-on flavor to complement plenty of soft and chunky pumpkin. The richness of flavors was an eye-opener, and so was the authentic spiciness that we were expecting from a good Thai restaurant. Next, we had the Pad See U ($9.95) that came with scores of fat noodles, chicken, broccoli, and a side of shaved carrots and cabbage. All flavors were nice integrated, and there was great separation between the slippery noodles. This dish was nicely executed and the savory sweet flavors were clear and on point. We initially arrived with low expectations but we were so impressed that we decided to order off the menu to try the Papaya Salad ($7.95). The papaya was crisp with wonderful textures supported by bold spicy flavors that ended with a lingering tang. We find relieve to the spicy flavors in the support cast that included tomatoes, crushed peanuts, dried shrimps, carrots and fish sauce. It was authentically Thai spicy along with the prik nam pla that they provided us at the table. Our English-speaking server had been to Thailand and was very knowledgeable about the cuisine. He was friendly and responsive and it was clear that he hasn't interacted with too many Asian customers in this part of the country. I thought their prices were higher than necessary, but the overall experience turned out unexpectedly pleasant and flavorful. For those seeking a more authentic experience, be sure to ask for Thai spicy in all the dishes, and servings of prik nam pla for depth and extended flavors. Free wifi. I would absolutely love to come back again.

Definitely on the pricey side, but I'm so in love with their Pad Thai, I can't help but keep coming back! I've had the dish at other thai restaurants before that were good, but something about the way they make it here that is just so delicious. The place is inviting, clean, lots of big windows to let in plenty of natural light. Lunch time can get a little crazy there, but it's always worth the wait.

A very solid Thai restaurant. The menu includes some unique items you don't typically see at a Thai place. I had a cup of the Hot Sour soup. It had good flavor but the thickness surprised me. Maybe too much corn starch? I had the Calamari Explosion as my entree. It was very nice with the right amount of heat for my taste.

Best Thai restaurant I have ever been to. I really enjoy their drunken noodles dish with beef! This dish has glass noodles with a little bit of a kick and soft basil undertone! I have never been unhappy with other dishes served here and the service is very fast!

I travel to Davenport for work annually and I wish I'd discovered Exotic Thai years earlier! Located in an average looking strip mall, Exotic Thai serves up some tasty food. As a vegetarian, I was very pleased to see that they have mock chicken on the menu. I ordered a vegetable spring roll to start. It was fresh and flavorful. For my main meal, I got the massaman curry with mock chicken. I order massaman curry at just about every Thai restaurant I go to, and I can say Exotic Thai's version is pretty solid. The fake chicken was pretty tasty, too. I washed this all down with a glass of plum wine and had an excellent night. Service was a little spotty, but it was a busy Friday night. I wasn't in a rush anyway. Definitely work checking out if you're in the Quad City area...especially if you're looking for vegetarian options!

For my first visit I ordered: gai sam rod, Thai rolls and crab cheese puff. The chicken was very good! Very spicy, which I love. The crab cheese puffs were AMAZING. I've ordered these at a lot of other Chinese restaurants in the area and these are by far the best. I think my only disappointment was the Thai rolls. There was almost no filling in it, so it was like just eating the won ton wrapper. I will be ordering from here again and am looking forward to trying other items on the menu. I think the one downside to this was the prices, it cost almost $30 for those 3 things, which was a little much. However, the food was good for the most part.

  • Douglas P.

Good, but I have had better. They need more of a selection, many of my favorite Thai dishes are not present.

  • Andrea T.

I love Exotic Thai! I used to live in the QC's (5 yrs ago) and still talk about this place when anyone asks where to eat. I always eat at one of the two locations when I am in town. I do not really have a favorite dish although I do always get some type of noodle. I have never been disappointed with my food. They also have good service. Give this (or the one in Moline) a try!

I finally, finally, finally managed to try this place, and I'm sorry I waited so long. I met a group of friends here for lunch on a recent afternoon. Everything about the visit was wonderful. I split the dumpling appetizer with friends - beautifully presented and delicious. My entree was the salmon. It was cooked perfectly, portions were just right and oh so delicious. Despite being small and located in a very small string of businesses on a busy street, the atmosphere and decor are very pleasant. Add in high marks for great service, and my visit couldn't have gone better! I will definitely be coming back here, most likely on my next date night with my husband.

The best Thai food i have eaten so far! We ordered vegetaria dishes and they were simply superb. Definetly a go if you like spicy foods.

First visit and was favorably impressed. Good service and very good food. Started with the Miang Kam appetizer. Menu description was not exactly accurate, as it described stuffed spinach leaves, but the plate is served with individual groupings of items which you can stuff into a spinach leaf. In any case, the flavors of the individual items -- sweet, spicy, tangy, sour, together create a wonderful harmony. My fiance had the Exotic Wok (ginger, with chicken) and she thought it was heavenly. I had the Pra Ram (with chicken) and it was terrific--lots of chicken, and just the right amount of heat for a "one pepper" ("a little kick") dish. We will definitely return to check out other menu items.

Only complaint: dinner was over too soon! So gooooood! So much flavor and the perfect amount of heat.

Small restaurant with a nice atmosphere and a convenient location right off of 53. We ordered the sampler starter plate which came with a mix of rolls, fried shrimp, and angel wings (fried stuffed chicken wings) and a delicious sweet and tangy sauce with peanuts. It complimented everything nicely. Lots of interesting options on the menu. We had a hard time choosing. Boyfriend decided on the wonton soup and I got the shrimp pad thai. We were both satisfied. The pad thai was different than I've had elsewhere with more sauce, but very delicious. Our only issue was that we felt a bit rushed, even though it wasn't too crowded and there were plenty of tables open. We were a bit thrown off that we weren't asked if we wanted anything else before the check was brought. We had planned to stay and have tea and some dessert but the waitress came and cleared our plates and handed us the check without giving us the opportunity. I ended up asking anyway for tea. But I was told they only had iced tea...even though it clearly says green and jasmine tea on the menu. So ended up going somewhere else for dessert which is a shame because I would've loved to try the sticky rice and the fried ice cream. Overall though, good experience and we will come back for the food alone. Turned my boyfriend on to Thai cuisine, which he's never had before and was a bit nervous about.

We stopped in Davenport while on a cross country road trip and had the good fortune to stumble across Exotic Thai Restaurant. The drinks and food were outstanding, the wait staff were attentive, the decor was lovely, plus it was reasonably priced! This stands out as one of the best Thai restaurants I've eaten at. I appreciate that they did not have an annoying television blaring. I wish I lived closer; I'd definitely be a regular.

Great food, really slow service. No refills offered on drinks and we had to hunt someone down so we could pay our bill. Poor service can really kill the experience.

I'm really surprised to see this restaurant get such mixed reviews. We eat here a few times a year when we're in the QC and this place is about as good as it gets! Their menu is quite extensive and doesn't just include the same old same old pick a number Thai dishes that every restaurant has. For instance they have a country style prik khing that is very different from a regular prik khing. There's always something new to try and the food is good. They do a pretty good "native" spice level and they have a couple of hot sauces and chopped peppers if you want more fire. (They apparently do mild well enough to please the less adventurous too) We've tried most of the Milwaukee Thai restaurants and this place is better. I'm pretty sure they make their own curry sauces too.

  • Pablo S.

Small seating area but overall not bad. Interior looks nice. Service was good and quick. The menu is decent and the prices are fair. I got the pad thai for about $12 and it wasn't the most flavorful thing in the world but it was still good. Would come back.

Do not miss if you are in town. We were passing through, used Yelp to find a restaurant and this was it. Food is Thai ethnic and excellent. We eat Thai often and this compares to anywhere.

We have only come for lunch, but every time we have had great food and great service. We like the faux chicken dishes and the pad Thai. Both the Moline location and the Davenport location are very good.

We stop in Davenport frequently, but just discovered this gem of a Thai restaurant. The menu is exotic and extensive, and the explanations are delightful. Everything was delicious, and we loved the vegetable chicken option. Service was good, and the decor lovely. We loved Exotic Thai!

  • J'aime S.

A very surprising little gem while passing through Davenport. Born and raised near Los Angeles, I have had my fair share of great Thai food, but this place had one of the best green curry (eggplant/sauce was sooooooo good) and Tom kha soup I have ever had. Very well balanced and rich flavors. The pad see ew was good but a little too wet for my liking. Thai iced tea was refreshing and delish. A little pricey but worth the food. Very fresh...you can taste the quality!!! Highly recommend!

I found it to be kind of average. I wasn't impressed neither blown away by their food. Very average to me. It was good, just not superb.

I'll have to say that I was presently surprised at this place. This review is for the food only, as my family and I got takeout. Living in Houston, I am able to get some pretty good Thai food, so I was hesitant about eating at a place like this in....Iowa. Not anymore. Family members got the drunken noodles, and I got the green chicken curry. I would say the chicken curry is on par with any of the places I've been to in Houston. If I lived in Davenport, I would definitely hit up this place some more to try out their other dishes.

Setting out on a rainy night in a town that's unfamiliar can be a bit stressful, and my travelling companion and I never saw the restaurant we were looking for. But we did see the sign for Exotic Thai, and thank goodness we did! This small restaurant was reminiscent of the restaurants of various ethnicities I'd visited in Europe. Clean, comfortable, and bustling when we arrived, we were greeted by the hostess and shown to a table. What to choose, what to choose?! Having only visited one Thai restaurant in my life, I just couldn't decide on what to have. I started out with the Tom Kha soup which didn't disappoint. I'm guilty of not remembering the name of the main dish I ordered, but it was something with carrots, broccili, cabbage and chicken that had a roasted garlic and black pepper sauce. YUM-O! My friend ordered a ground chicken concoction that was served on lettuce leaves with spiral-cut carrots as an interesting garnish. What an explosion of flavors this dish had! Ginger, red onion, cilantro--just fabulous! The waitress was friendly and attentive. I just wish I had time to go back more often to try all the other dishes on their menu! Folks in the QCA are so fortunate to have this place!!

We stopped here, on a recent trip to Davenport, having recalled that we had a wonderful meal the last time we had eaten here a number of years ago. Our memory served us well and we were not disappointed this time either. It's not a huge nor incredibly fancy restaurant; it is quite simple and as another review indicated 'nicely appointed.' The service staff was very friendly, helpful, and efficient. Both of our entrees along with the appetizer we ordered were very flavorful and were among some of the best food we have had during our dining experiences in Iowa.

I stopped in Davenport with my mom to spend one of the nights of our cross country road trip. We were past tired of fast food and found this place on her gps. When I first walked in, it looked pretty fancy, and was worried it would be expensive. After checking the menu, I was pleasantly surprised to see prices were comparable to those back in the Bay Area (CA). One of my favorite thai dishes is pad kee mao, and i didn't see it on the menu. I was prepared to order the pad see ew instead, but I asked the waitress and they were able to make me the pad kee mao. YAY! Pad kee mao back in The Bay is made with the fat, flat rice noodles, but this was made with the glass noodles. It was still yummy though. Portions are a bit smaller for the price, but I was still satisfied. My mom ordered the kang karee with chicken that she said was also good. I think it was about $10 per dish. service was good, has a large parking lot. it was A-OK.

  • Indy J.

Would have been 5 stars if I was rating on food alone, service was horrible. Don't know if it was because I was by myself, doubtful since others around me had the same experience. My food arrived timely, along with the bill....and I did not see a server until I pushed back my empty plate. My drink had been empty long enough that I had managed to get two drinks of water out of it (yep, ice melting). They came to take an order at the table next to me...no refill or even a "how are you doing?". When they cleared my plate....not a word to ask if I would like something more to drink (I would have). Funny though, the check was picked up quickly at all three tables around me when we all put them down

I also lived in Chicago (and later, NYC) for more than ten years and enjoyed Thai food at least once a week. But I disagree with Kelly's review. When I moved back, I was pleased to see that a Thai restaurant had opened in the QC's and thrilled to find out just how good it is. I think the food is reasonably priced (the portions are very large) and the flavors are perfect. The presentation is also terrific. I've never had a bad meal there and that is largely why I asked Mun to join Good2Go so we can deliver her food throughout the area. Her amazing tom kha soup got me through this miserable winter -- and I count myself among Exotic Thai's many loyal customers.

  • Joe C.

Exotic Thai is some good grub. Admittedly, the signage (red letters, in a font familiar to exotic dance locales - I'm told) could drive some more conservative customers away and attract others interested in a massage... The restaurant is very simple, but nicely appointed. The menu offers a variety of appetizers, salads, soups, noodles, and grilled items worthy of a much larger establishment. Prices are very reasonable and the service is very fast. I could go on and on, but Exotic Thai rivals the best Asian cuisine I've sampled in my travels. Four stars for great food and great prices. It's a tough call between 4 and 5, but you get the picture.

Good Thai food in an attractive setting, the two Exotic Thai restaurants in the Quad Cities (the other is in Moline) serve the best Thai food in the region. Dishes are attractive and (usually) flavorful. They are not cheap, however, at least by Quad Cities standards; most entrees run $10 and up.

  • Shandra L.

I'm in the quad cities from chicago so i think i'm pretty spoiled when it comes to ethnic food. i'll say that exotic thai is the best thai food i've had in the area, but in comparison to what i'm used to i was dissapointed. mainly because some of my favorite classic thai dishes weren't on the menu. i was really dissapointed with the appetizer selections, and wasn't too impressed with the one we got. that being said, the panang curry was delicious, good portion for the price, service was good, ambiance nice. i'm sure i'll return.

Everyone had an ok meal with mediocre service at this place. They own other restaurants in the qca which obviously get more attention. Worth a try if you've not been there but it's nothing special. Try erawan or lemongrass or thongsys over this place.

  • Jen D.

Exotic Thai is hands down our go-to restaurant in Davenport. The food is a great combination of quality ingredients and delicious flavors, and prices are extremely reasonable. Whether you eat-in or carry out, you won't be disappointed. Our favorite dish is the green curry - creamy-oily perfectly textured sauce with perfect spicing and just the right heat. Other favorites are the fresh fresh fresh larb (lettuce & minced chicken wraps) and any of the glass noodle dishes. This is a family restaurant and they are great entrepreneurs in the QCA - another Exotic Thai in Moline and the new Lemongrass Bistro also in downtown Moline. Where would we be without Exotic Thai? The staff & owners knew I was getting engaged before I did!

This is pretty much my favorite restaurant but haven't been lately. Lately as in the last month or 2. Come as u are and dnt forget to get a Thai iced tea or Thai iced coffee. Maybe 2 if u drink em like me and no, I'm not proud of that....suddenly I down them like a frappacino. They become a power pellet; and I, PAC-man. Err ms. PAC man.

Went here tonight. I was in town on a trip and decided on the reviews I had better check it out. I got carry out but the place seemed pretty nice inside. I got the yellow curry which had good flavor to it. But, the veggies were seriously under-cooked! It was a little pricey given that you could get something of equal or better quality in Chicago for less...but overall, if you're in Davenport and hard up for some Thai, this is probably your best bet.

  • Benjamin B.

I like this place a whole lot, it is the first Thai restaurant in my home arena that I have really taken a shine to. I have never been disappointed by their food, in fact I would say it is better than prolly 75% of the Thai places up here in Chicago. Which is saying a lot, because there are a lot of great Thai places up here. The owner and staff are all very kind, attentive and friendly people... in fact, my mother is friends with the owner -- which is always a bonus. They do curries especially well, but everything else I have had here has been scrum-diddly-umptious. Yay for Exotic Thai! Finally I can dine well in the QCA.
