Healthy Meal suggestions for Outback Steakhouse

The steak was flavorful, tender and reasonably priced. The team behind the bar was kind and prompt. My salad, and beer were right as expected. Seemed like most people in the place were pretty happy and well fed. I would go back.

Not good. Hostess fought over who to sit us. The waited 10 minutes to see a waitress who was the same hostess. Menu is confusing. 70 lunch menu options but could only find about 3 on menu. Then when it says comes with a fresh made side it only means one option. Everything else under fresh made side cost more. Overall they didn't deserve one star but that was the only option.

Had steak and lobster for lunch with OldBay seasoning, cooked perfect. Sever was super friendly and knowledgable, recommended the lobster and shrimp fried appetizer with sweet chili sauce, yum. Should have took a picture but was enjoying everything too much;))~

I used to think Outback was pretty good for a food chain but lately their food has been disgusting. The burger I ordered was mushy pile of meat. The steak my friend ordered was even worse. The shrimps were buffet quality with a premium price tag.

I grade chain restaurants on a different curve than the independent places. I do this because they tend to compromise on quality due to trying to appeal to the masses and churning out food quickly, it is a different model. I needed a quick meal tonight and had some free cash to burn here. Ordering online was quick and easy (best part of the meal). Upon arriving to pick up my order I wait an additional 15 minutes. I would not care but the email confirmation said the food would be ready by 6:20. Since I waited on my food, I made the poor assumption it would be warm at the very least. Cold salmon and calamari that tasted like it had been sitting out for some time. The carrot cake was good so, I will award points here and I am not ill yet (the night is still young) which means 2 star territory. Here is the frustrating thing, I am not Outbacks prime target for dinning. I use up my gift card and probably do not end up in again for another 5 years but the parking lot was packed and there was a wait to get food. Meaning there are a lot of people who get excited and save their hard earned money to eat at Outback and this is the caliber of food they receive. Hogwash! There is no excuse for serving cold food to your customers. Clearly they do not value their customers as their customers value the Outback name.

Service was excellent, great staff. In the midst of a remodel that was leaking rain into the dining area. First time at any Outback in about 10 years. Food was overall disappointing. I remember when Outback was a good restaurant. Ordered the steakhouse salad -- all iceberg lettuce with carrots and red cabbage and hardly anything else. Did not look like the photo here at all. Even the few pieces of red onion were bland. Thankfully ordered the blue cheese vinaigrette on the side as it was green and sour. I realize they put sirloin on the salad but the meat was so riddled with membrane as to be inedible. Manager offered to have another piece of meat cooked for me and it was better but still had membrane running through the middle. I guess they don't cut or trim their own meat. Should have trusted the low yelp rating but the husband wanted to go. Even the bloomin onion wasn't as good as I remembered, very over seasoned and greasy. Also too many different types of food on the menu, that always seems to be a bad sign. Maybe I am just too old for this place.

This was my first experience of the Outback and if I believed in five stars I would do it, because it was practically perfect. Great service, great food, and a price that was hard to beat. I had a signature burger of sorts, the bloomin burger? Great taste and cooked to my liking. Seemed to be a fun place for kids and adults alike, and you even get complimentary bread upon sitting down. My dream is to make it to Australia some day, but this was pretty close ; )

Went here on a Sunday night and used a gift card I had. Ordered a bone in NY strip. Our waitress provided excellent service and was highly attentive. The manager came around to make sure everything was good. I really can't find anything to really complain about regarding this latest experience.

I have been a long-time fan of Outback. My boyfriend and I went there last night for an early Valentines Day dinner (to avoid the crowd and he works at a restaurant also.) Last night was the first unpleasant experience I have had there. We were quoted a 40 min wait for the dining room (we expected it to be busy but not quite this much). We waited 10 mins and were able to get first-come/first-serve seating at a table in the bar. It was another ten minutes before we saw a server, who we eventually saw only had a four-table section. I have worked in restaurants also so I understand that there is a lot of teamwork and helping out the other servers. Not a big deal. We ordered the spinach dip app. Not bad but nothing special. I got a salad and my boyfriend got the french onion soup. The soup and salad were easily the best part of the meal. He ordered the prime rib medium rare. I ordered the tilapia with crab meat. Both were over-cooked. The crab meat was crusty and hard. Fish crispy on the edges. His steak was the worst. He orders prime rib quite a bit when we go out. Always loves it. It came out and was only about a half of an inch thick and looked smaller than the 8 ounce portion that was ordered. I was embarrassed because it was at my request we went there. Overall very disappointing. Two stars only because of the years I enjoyed going there prior to last night. Won't be going back anytime soon.

My worst Outback experience ever. Well done overcooked steak for 18$, when i ordered Medium rare. after we got our food the waitress only came back to give us our check, that was about it. Got drink refills once, after asking another waiter. Bad food and Bad service.

While passing through Des Moines, IA we decided to stop at a favorite of ours, Outback. We have eaten at this particular location once before, so figured it was a good choice. The wait wasn't long although misquoted horribly; service was okay; and the food/presentation left something to be desired. The Hubby and I split most meals because we just don't eat the size portions that are served in the restaurants today. We usually order an appetizer and one meal to split. Every other time we split a meal at Outback, it comes on two plates. This time, I guess either the server didn't ring it in properly or the expo cook didn't bother. Either way, we had to ask for another plate for both courses. My favorite thing at Outback is their wedge salad. Not this visit. Presentation and taste left a lot to be desired. Never mind the fact that I asked for no onions and they didn't bother to adhere to that request. Overall it was an okay visit. I'm sure we will try them again, for as many times as we travel up that way.

We called ahead for a table two hrs early, arrived and still waited for another 30-45min. When we checked in they told us it'd just be a few minutes. Server was good, food was ok. We ordered the kids meal when we sat down but it arrived with all of the food. There was a table of 14 sitting next to us that was split up with no control. Our meals came with dessert that we ordered to go but never received them. 2 stars may even be generous.. But server was doing her best.

  • C D.

What a joke. Not only does "call ahead seating" mean nothing the hostess started laughing when she realized she just sat the walk-in group at the last big table. Worst part is she kept doing it. We even asked her if she thought it was funny and even then she snicked while trying to say no. So much for a yearly tradition for a party of 10. But it turned out to be good for us. We went to Nick's instead and had a great meal instead of the chain restaurant same old. Bye forever Outback...

Busy Friday night. Long wait for table even though we called ahead by 45 minutes. Waiter was good, Apps came out fairly quickly. My wife's prime rib was cold. not just warm, but cold. the waiter took it back to kitchen. It was brought back in same condition it was sent back in. Manager came to table and explained the process of cooking prime rib. My wife said she wanted the prime rib warm. He repeated the process and asked what it is that she wanted? She repeated that she wanted it warm. He huffed a bit and took it back to kitchen only to reappear with new plate with a huge slab of prime rib on it. He set the plate down and complained how hot the plate was and examined his hand, because it touched the hot plate. Unfortunately it took a lot of fuss to get hot food to the table. The food was good, usually is, but the show was a bit much.

My family back home loves Outback a lot. I'm not as big of a fan but I do enjoy it when we go. I love the bread they serve, that's probably one of my favorites. When we went the food was delicious, the portions were decent, and we were treated pretty well by the staff. I still feel like because we are a young couple we aren't treated as well as other customers, maybe they know we're on a tight budget and only go for special occasions. Water service is always good, and their ribs and steak are so good. My husband always orders ribs and loves them. I love the steak and always take some home because it's too much. We've had a few mistakes made on our tab but the manager was so great and made the proper adjustments.

We had a large group of people for a special birthday dinner. It amazed us that NO ONE had to send their food back! All were thrilled with the quality of the meat and the way it was prepared to order. They served all at the SAME TIME with an army of servers. Very impressed!

Called one day in advance (call ahead seating, not reservations?) for a 6 pm table for party of 10 on a Wednesday night. I could tell from the minute I walked in and was "greeted" by three disinterested hostesses that it probably wasn't going to be stellar experience. When I asked if my party had been seated yet, was told, "no, there was one lady here but I don't know where she went." After waiting another five minutes or so all of my party arrived shortly before 6 so we told the hostesses we were ready to be seated. I saw two of the hostesses exchange smirks and one of them sauntered off to "check on our table." She came back and announced that they had seated a call ahead party ahead of us, so it would probably be another 25-30 minutes. So, in essence, they gave our table to a walk in group who arrived minutes ahead of us. The hostesses continued to smirk and one person in our party finally asked if they thought this was funny. We took about 10 seconds to decide that we would take our large party and our $$ and go elsewhere. Just too bad that the hostesses and their lack of interest will have a negative impact on the servers who probably work hard for their tips. I won't be back.

Unfortunately, I had to visit this place for a family event. What a disgrace! We were quoted a 5 minute wait time; we waited over 25 minutes. The menu is very limited, and all of the menu options were overpriced. A basic (and terrible) chicken fettucine alfredo was $16+; a few grilled shrimp and scallops with rice about the same. I don't mind paying for quality, but sub-Applebee's quality food (and relatively small portions for a chain restaurant) does not command such rates. No wonder Outback is struggling as a chain - you can either serve crap food or charge premium prices, not both.

ordered our takeaway food. 20 minutes turned into 40. had to go inside. claimed that an alice springs chicken quesadilla had hit the floor. claimed 20 minutes to remake it. explained my concern about the rest of the order being hot. ... ever had a 30 minute old, trapped in a plastic container onion? YUCK!!!! Manager fluffed off my concern about hot food. i have waited for 10 days to write this so i could do it with out four letter words. got the original order of quesadilla too. must have been on the floor as it stuck to the pan while burning a nice charred black. order was rung up at 7:19 pm on 8-9-13. table was 996. filet was cold, baked potato warm. an absolutely horrible experience. like the food when prepped and delivered timely. this was an order from xxxx well you know from where. especially frustrating was the fact that i engaged the manager in a dialogue on hot food and was blown off. am afraid to ask if they are hiring. if not, then more than poorly managed. if yes, don't want to deal with the other staff that allowed this to happen. i DO NOT recommend going there.

A good chain for steak. It's not going to be amazing, but it's pretty good for what you pay. My family usually does the drive up and take home, as its easier with a child, but when we have eaten there, its pretty standard for one of these chains. During dinner expect a 30-45 minute wait for a seat. Once you are inside, its like every other Outback.
