When you walk into this place the smell of it is what I think angels smell like. I will tell you that I am full blooded Italian, so that could be a bias statement. Ether way this is a great, little known place, in West DeMo. They just have the very basics of what you need on the shelves (not a large enough selection that's why the 4 star). You can get a 4oz bag of Italian Seasoning for $3.25. Just to let you know that is a hell of a deal. The Deli is the gem of this place. They have the same meats that Graziano Brothers deli has. Just on the west side, and they serve really good deli sandwiches at lunch! Go in on a Wednesday or Friday and have a Chicago style roast beef! It's so good that the next time your tongue hears someone suggest quiznos, it will literally jump out of your mouth and slap the person. If you don't want large crowds go any other day of the week and get any of the deli sandwiches.

I am giving 5 stars because I believe this is one of the best little finds in town. If my fiance hadn't noticed this store/sandwich shop as I was driving by, I may have missed it. It is located on University where the street has a small jig by the BP gas tank yard. I was concentrating on why the street would seem to end and then begin again a block later, so when he wanted to have lunch here I wasn't sure what he was talking about. Upon entering we immediately felt like we were part of a larger family. With the history in pictures on the walls, the friendly smiles and the helpful suggestions for our lunch purchases we were made to feel welcome and sat down at one of the small tables to enjoy our food. I had the Graziano Sausage Sandwich with onions, cheese and peppers and my honey had the Pastrami on marble bread with pickles and mustard. I am a bit embarrassed to say we moaned out loud as we ate the most yummy sandwiches we can remember enjoying. We also tried the potato salad, some spicy fire chips and the Tradewinds Sweet Tea that added the perfect compliment to the sandwiches. We finished with a Peanut Butter & Jelly Cupcake made by TracieCakesDSM. I am not a big fan of Peanut Butter like my honey, but it was a nice treat. If you are looking for a quick bite to eat with a family friendly feel, or want to pick up some premade meals for dinner tonight (lasagna, tortellini, sauces), this is the place. Enjoy!

This was my first trip to A Taste of Italy, so I relied on the gentleman behind the counter to help me with a selection. He recommended the Chicago Style Beef, which was the daily special. With this sandwich, you have your choice of sweet or hot peppers and the option to toast the bun. I decided on hot peppers and a toasted bun. The Chicago Style Beef also came with a side of au jus rather than being dipped. Absolutely delicious! The sandwich was loaded with tender, juicy beef and the amount of peppers was perfect. There were enough peppers to add heat, but they were not overwhelming. I recommend A Taste of Italy to anyone looking for inexpensive, tasty Italian sandwiches and great, friendly service. I can't wait to go back!

Such a good little place hidden in a little strip of businesses in Clive. When I was back in Iowa this past December we went in and got awesome meatball sandwiches. I have had a lot of pepperoni and provolone sandwiches from here, as well. I am a total sucker for the light little Gauntis cookies they sell.

Read the menu ahead of time because once you get here you'll want to order everything. The owner was in and took the time to walk me through the menu. Recommended the Chicago beef and it was spot on. Crispy bread, the peppers had decent kick and the au jus was flavorful. I love that his mom is working the cashier and is super friendly as well. Just a great environment and really good food. I will always eat lunch here when I'm in town.

Awesome place for a quick lunch. I would recommend checking out their menu on their website before you go in because it's a order at the counter type place and there are a lot of sandwiches to choose from. You cant go wrong with the Chicago Beef with peppers or the Italian Sausage. The Vogue or the Combo sandwiches are legit too. And get Pasta salad or potato salad instead of chips, both are good.

Good sandwiches and they have most of the things you'd need from an Italian specialty store. The only problem is most of the supermarkets have finally gotten their act together and have a lot of things at better prices. I'm specifically thinking of Chicago-style giardinara that I had to make a trip to Taste of Italy if I needed it 5-8 years ago... but they still have some good specialty items that are worth the trip, and I do like the sandwiches. It just feels like it is more of a sandwich place now than anything else.

Great little Gem !! If you like Italian beef, you'll love this place, I like Mr. Beef and Als in Chicago, but this is best in Iowa, great bread, crusty outside soft inside, thin slices of tender seasoned beef, hot and sweet peppers, delicious !!!.I'm not usually a big fan of pasta salad, it's just pasta salad, right, there's is awesome, great dressing, chunks of pepperoni, and cheese, I love it, I wat to try all the other sandwiches cuz the whole place smells like Grazianos on the south side where I grew up, and they use that sausage so I know the grinders have to be good on that bread, I've been there four times, and I keep getting the Italian beef, I get the Vogue, it's amazing, maybe I'll get a sausage sangwitch or a grinder next time. Oh and it's a little italian grocery also, so you get the Amodeo bread for home, it's family owned , the two guys making the sandwiches are masters, and the mom running the front is super nice, it's been there a few years, and I've missed out, so if you've never been there, go now, you will thank me!!!

The Chicago Style Sandwich is the best I've had anywhere. I order mine with Hot Peppers only. You've got to try it and you will love it.

Without a doubt, this is the best place to get a sandwich in Clive. Meats are of supreme quality and are sliced by hand. Cheeses are of excellent quality as well and the breads are excellent. If you think Subway or any of the chains are "good", you're sorely missing out. The specialty is the Chicago Beef au jus and it comes loaded. I meant to take a picture, but I ate the sandwich too quickly. Next time!

This little gem, and it is little, serves up some absolutely fantastic sandwiches. My whole family, 2 of whom are picky buggers, love this place. They also do great stuff with their little deli. Be patient, though! They can get busy and each sandwich is made to order so it can take a bit. Well worth it though.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
