Comparatively speaking, Fighting Burrito doesn't last two rounds against Chipotle or others. Individually speaking, it's unique enough in its selection and presentation to earn an award of "Ehhhh." I am a notorious burritophile and eat them everywhere. I have repeat visits to many other places in town but here it was once and done. The meat absolutely ruined everything about this meal - it was so salty and overwhelming that I couldn't finish the entire thing, a new personal low. I would even be willing to chalk this up to my visit being on an atypical day, and just a bad batch of pig. Either way, it ruined any chance at a return. When you are in the food industry, you aren't allowed to have bad days when people are eating your product. Overall, visit other burrito places in town and leave this one off of your bucket list.

Rapidly produced burritos it is. Chipotle it is not. It caters to the bar crowd, and their delivery is painful in the winter time.

Fighting Burrito (of Flying Burrito as I knew it) was a staple of my college career. A lot of tasty food at the right price. There are plenty of options to craft your burrito just how you like it, it's open late and you get a work out curling the burrito to your mouth - if you live in Ames and want a quick burrito, I would definitely recommend FB over Panchero's.

*sigh* Not as good as I remembered. C'est la vie. The selection of filling is quite extensive, ingredients seem to be decent, and the portions are ridiculous, but just left feeling underwhelmed this time. It's been a couple of years since I've been here, but I was in town, and thought I'd relive the old days. I recommend asking that they go light on the rice; they tend to be a bit heavy-handed with it, even if you ask for them to go light. If it's not past 9, go next door instead to Chinese Home Style. Eat cheap. Eat well.

Big burritos, decent price tag. The meats have some of the best flavor of any burrito I've had, the beef being the best of the three (beef, pork, chicken). After one of these you won't need to eat for at least 4 hours.

The fighting Burrito is a great burrito place. Pick what you want on your burrito, choose everything that goes on it. They are tasty goodness and very filling. It may not be Chipotle but personally I think it is better. Very friendly. I try to go here everytime I am in town. Always get a rice krispy treat too, they are huge and last me for a snack throughout the day.

Really good food and consistently friendly service. Parking is on street or they have a lot in back and there's a small public lot up the street. Figure about $10 a person but definitely worth it. Some other reviews mention the burritos coming out small but if you get things besides meat and cheese they're not. Also great if you like Mexican food without a lot of spice to it.

With numerous burrito options to choose in Ames, Fighting Burrito is my favorite. The ingredients always seem so much fresher than the other choices. I also love the fact I can get a burrito salad, (same thing as burrito bowl but sitting on a bed of romaine.) The fact that they also deliver is great!

We order Fighting Burrito every time we have a hankering for burritos. The service is really great and the food is always good. PLUS they deliver!

Open late for college student and has so many choices! (What more could you ask for) and it's fast! Also it's one of the only places I know where you can get veggies added for no additional charge! My favorite is the bowl with chicken veggies double rice pico peach salsa and cilantro lime sour cream! Oh and extra cilantro and a squeeze of lime! Convenient and delicious! And something different from your average chain like chipotle or Pancheros

Do not get delivery!! It takes well over an hour, with a hidden delivery fee! By time you get your food it's cold and soggy

Awesome and fresh food! Quick too. The burritos are very filling. They have a great variety of meats and now also have other selections other than just the burritos, although the only entrees I have had is then burritos and am always satisfied

Four different kinds of tortillas, two types of sour cream, salsas galore and vegan options? Sign me up! I have heard Fighting Burrito compared to other burrito places in town. I don't think those national chain restaurants are in the same class. You can get black or white beans, wild rice is an option, grilled peppers and onions don't cost extra... olives, cilantro, lime and green onions are an option. This has many more options. I've never gotten a burrito I haven't liked from here. The employees are friendly, too. It's in the heart of Campustown and parking is on-street. It's open super late, but you don't want to try to get into this place on a Friday night while ISU is in session, trust me. I've never tried the delivery, but they do offer that service. Fighting Burrito is by far my most favorite burrito joint in town!

It took awhile for this place to grow on me. I'd had it a couple times in the past but never really sought it out. Over time I've come to appreciate it, een crave it. Sure, I still call it by its old name, more out of habit than from any attachment to its previous moniker. The food here is tasty - really tasty. You can order online. They deliver. Sounds like a win-win to me. P.S. The giant Rice Krispie bars are amazing!

Fresh ingredients, great service! Lots of food and this business does a lot for the community! The owner is a tremendous community member and cares a lot about his customers!!! Love this place!

Whenever I am in Ames, I gotta stop here for my burrito fix. Great fresh ingredients, and lots to choose from! Small lil "dive" place you wouldnt think of, but a must stop. Generous portions, one I got it was so big, they had to use 3 tortillas, it was the size of a small child! There is also a bunch of hot sauces you can add. You must also get one of their fresh HUGE rice crispies... sucker was the size of 2 bricks, literally.

Vegan options, great salsas, great service, open late. Awesome

Five stars for the soyrizo burrito, and the bathroom. The security of the door makes me feel the safest. but really, the food is fresh and this place really puts their own spin on burritos.

I am writing this on the one month anniversary of my visit here. The first place I ever ate at in Iowa is now to become the last place in Iowa that I review. This seems fitting, in a way, though I'm not exactly sure why... but it also means that my memory of this restaurant is a little blurry at this point. Also, I had just been on a plane for the first time mere hours before my visit here, and absolutely everything in this state was novel and exciting. In this way, I have to admit that this review may have been a bit different had I gone here on my last day rather than my first. As it is, though, I can only see "The Fighting Burrito" (though I'm told that was not always its name), through starry eyes. It was late, so Dan and I split a burrito between the two of us. We ordered it filled with rice, black beans, the mango salsa, and a couple other things that I can't quite remember. My honest opinion of the food is that it was tasty. I remember enjoying it quite a bit. I've mentioned in other reviews that I'm a simple girl. I don't expect flair or pizazz, and I am able to appreciate food for what it is rather than be disappointed for what it isn't. Was the burrito bland? I honestly don't remember it being so, and if it was... it didn't bother me. As for the size? It fed and filled the both of us. I'm not even sure I finished my half. That either means that it was a huge burrito, or that Dan and I are skinny people who don't eat much. Perhaps it means both. I can't say much for the atmosphere as we took our food to go, but the place was clean and warm. I recall that the man behind the counter seemed confused about the order (almost bordering on irritated, I think), but I don't remember exactly why. I'm sure it had something to do with my vegetarianism. I might actually be annoyed with me, too, if it was late and I was tired. Come to think of it, this is actually sometimes the case. So, with this review... I bid Iowa a fond farewell. [I didn't really read thoroughly through the other reviews, but I've noticed some low ratings and a lot of comparisons to Chipotle. What's the point in comparing the two? When it comes down to it, there are a lot of restaurants like this everywhere. Subway can be said to be like this place. Ditto that for Pita Pit. Or any restaurant where you get to choose your condiment delivery device (i.e. bread, tortilla, pita, etc...) and your fillings. It's different enough that it should be able to avoid these useless comparisons, so why not review it on its own merit rather than how it does and does not differ from another eatery?]

They are open pretty much all the time (seriously) and that it great. The entire staff has always been super nice to me. The food is always good. They have a really wide range of what you can get on a burrito, quesadilla, or whatever it is you decide you want. Good chips. Good salsa. I've always felt like their prices should be about $1 cheaper (a chicken burrito is about $7 with tax), but it is worth it (and hugely filling).

Located on Welch Ave in the heart of CampusTown, I'm assuming this place gets a considerable amount of business from over-saturated patrons of the bars in the immediate vicinity, which usually leads to lax quality and poor service, but Fighting Burrito manages to keep food-quality standards (and flavor levels) high for all customers--sober or sauced. My initial impression was that it was going to be just like any other burrito place (Chipotle, Rancheros, etc.) and nothing particularly memorable. The decor is pretty similar to its competitors, and there's still that hurry-up make-up-your-mind-and-don't-you-dare-think-about-hesitating pressure that's also on par with most of the others. While I think the hurry-up effort is a wise strategy to keep the line moving and the drunks right back out the door to meander back into the streets to be loud elsewhere, I've also been in at times where I was the sole customer and was still rushed through the process. That said, let's talk burritos. There's a list of creatively-named burritos whose innards have already been decided, which is a great option for those who are either indecisive or unfamiliar. While they're certainly not a poor choice, I would recommend building your own burrito (study the board first to know exactly what you want or risk becoming flustered and victim to the fast-paced, high-pressure ordering gauntlet). The chicken, so far, has been my favorite. I'd also highly recommend including queso (flavorful, melted cheese), sautéed peppers, and cilantro in your list of other burrito-packing choices. While I wish there were some limited-run, homemade ingredient options (like Bandit Burrito often does), the freshness, variety, and quality at Fighting B's is still satisfying and worth stopping in for.

Why the hell do they not sell steak? That's bull crap. Wasn't worth the shit I took 30 mins after eating it.

Gross... what a waste of $6.49... I love that you have so many more options to choose from here than you do at other burrito joints such as flavor tortillas, flavored sour cream, etc... but overall these burritos just plain suck! And they are Not monstrous like others claim... at least the one they made for me sure was not with the most sparing spoonful of meat. For their prices, I want more meat and better quality. The taste was BLAND! Surprising for so many different "flavor" choices...

This place can not touch Chipotle, but they are still really good. There hours are great and the food is also best burrito in town.

Though not as good as when I worked there about seven years ago (when it was the Flying Burrito), I still love the burrito shop. The burritos seem a tad smaller, but are still delicious. I like the nachos myself and a rice crispy treat. Good prices and the food fills you up. In response to David W.'s review, I was a delivery driver there. You try driving on snow covered roads in the winter when everyone is ordering delivery because no one wants to leave their house, then you can complain about slow delivery.

I'm a die hard Chipotle fan, but I like Flying Burrito better. The ingredients are better (tortilla choices, cilantro sour cream, etc), they have obscenely sized desserts to go along with those huge burritos and they deliver. Solid.

Back when this place first opened and it was Flying Burrito, we stopped in to see just how big the burritos actually were. And then we became hooked. Here's what stood out: 1. You get to choose from 4 different types of tortillas (Chipotle- 1 choice) 2. You get to choose from 2 different types of rice (Chipotle- 1 choice) 3. You get to choose from 3 different types of sour cream (Chipotle - 1 choie) In other words, you get choices that the chain alternative (although there isn't one close) does not offer! Every now and then, the chicken has been overcooked and hard/crunchy, but generally speaking, Flying... I mean Fighting Burrito offers over-stuffed burritos filled with great ingredients, for decently cheap.

There is a giant, burrito-shaped hole in my heart that only Fighting Burrito can fill. Living in Austin, TX, I genuinely thought Freebirds or some other burrito shop could fill that hole. Like so many other instances in my life, my thoughts were inaccurate and led me to disappointment. It's a requirement on my imaginary home-for-the-holidays checklist to stop and get a burrito. The soyrizo makes my life complete, especially when drenched in Cilantro-Lime sour cream. Mmmm tasty. They're open late, they're vegetarian-friendly, and they deliver! Now, if you only I could get them to deliver to ATX...

A solid place to get a San Francisco style burrito. This place is no-frills. The help can be smug. You get a large, tasty burrito at a reasonable price and they do deliver. If I was on campus as student, this would be a staple of sustenance.

Short Version: It's not the best eat-in restaurant, and it's a bit pricy for what you get, but the Fighting Burrito is a decent place to eat. They even offer delivery. I would eat here again, but I wasn't insanely impressed by my experience. Long Version: Despite living in Ames in 5 years, I hadn't had the Fighting Burrito until recently. I remember when it was actually located on Lincoln, and I think it was called the "Flying Burrito" even. I still love the aviation theme, and I honestly was hoping that the interior would be aviation-themed as well. I was a bit disappointed in that regard. It's a pretty bland interior, but they do have a bathroom available for customer use. There are a couple tables with stools outside, and there are a couple booths and tables inside for eating as well. The place doesn't look very decorated, but it does have the functional aspect of being a place you could eat. The restaurant area looks clean, and it would be somewhere that you eat, but it's really not a "destination eatery" type of interior. (I was really, really hoping for a neat aviation theme) I've never been here, and luckily there weren't people behind me. They have all of their menu available to look at online, and it's obvious that their staff is trained for efficiency. They aren't rude, but they definitely are trained to get people through the line as quickly as possible. The burritos are large-ish. I was a bit surprised that the single burrito ran about $7. I suppose if you stuffed it full of things, it might be worth the cost, but as I just had chicken, black olives, and some great northern beans, it seems like I could definitely make this much more cheaply at home. Nutrition information is also available online. The burrito did taste good, though. It tasted fresh, and it was surprisingly still too hot to eat when I finished the 10 minute drive to my destination. Whatever they package it in definitely does the job. It was a fulfilling burrito, but I did find that there was a lot of "overlap" of the tortilla in about half of the burrito that meant biting through 6 layers of tortilla which was a bit annoying. It tasted good, though, and it's not a place I would avoid eating now in the future. Next time I might try the Bare Burrito instead, though. The Fighting Burrito is now located on Welch, though, which means you may have to fuss to park. I had to park two blocks away and pay a parking meter in order to visit the restaurant and go eat.

I liked the food the first few times I ordered. Last time I ordered they didn't have the taco shells so they offered the nachos... I wanted tacos, it was Tuesday after all. So I asked if I could get a quesodilla instead which is a dollar cheaper... they wanted to charge me 5 dollars extra! Pardon my texting but that's fucked up. I won't be ordering from them again.

So Goddamn tired of you guys screwing up every delivery order! If it isn't a 90 minute wait for delivery when you claim "60 minute estimated delivery time" it's the chips OR queso/salsa. Never the chips AND salsa I PAY for, honestly I would expect better out of an unorganized group of high school dropouts-not a business run by a joke of a city council member. Such a racket, only successful because of all the drunken college students they diddle for over-priced rice and beans in a tortilla. A disgraceful "local" business.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
