This place has gotten a lot better since my last review. New ownership? They have new workers, so customer service has improved tremendously. They haven't ran out of sides yet.

Korean food is better in town. West side come on where is the good Korean food. As a take out joint, this place does not come close. Omg this place just sucks. It all tasted gross including the sides. Even the workers dont seem to care. I regret coming here...

Their garlic chicken seemed previously fried. No wonder my order came out within 5 mins.

DO NOT ORDER THEIR BOBA TEA!!! It was awful!!! The tapioca pearls were hard!! so they were either OLD or not cooked properly! I threw it away because it was not good at all. They also have a minimum credit card limit or else they charge you if you use your credit card if it's under a certain amount, which I'm pretty sure is against the law to do.

BBQ Hut is located in Kunia Shopping Center in Waipahu by Auntie Pastos. Unfortunately it's the only game nearby. I saw their "Happy Hour" promotion - from 1 pm to 5 pm, reduced prices on their mini and regular plates. I called to order 3 take-out plates and was told I couldn't phone in "Happy Hour" orders. They only do "walk-ins" for that. I asked for a reason since they're the only establishment that I knew of who will decline phone orders. The answer I got was store policy. So I drove there, walked in, placed my order and waited 15 minutes - the very thing I was trying to avoid! After tasting the food, forget it, we're not returning regardless of the price. Super oily and very poor quality of food - very disappointing. Drive an extra few minutes to Song's BBQ behind Waipahu Times. Money will be well spent!

First time here, I got the Kimchee fried rice and it's delicious!!! Staff was polite and friendly, and food came out fast! Would go here again.

The Mrs. realy liked the spicy pork at the Pearl Kai BBQ Hut so she was sad when they closed. We were actually planning to go to another restaurant but decided to see if the spicy pork at this BBQ Hut was as good as the Pearl Kai location's. In a word, yes. The Mrs. loved the spicy pork. It was juicy and tender with tasty strings of fat (like Emeril says, "Pork fat rules") and just enough hot seasoning to give it a kick. My BBQ chicken was good but nothing exceptional: similar to most decent Korean restaurant's chicken. The vegetables were on the sweet side, kind of a downer for me, but the two potato varieties (shoyu and garlic potato salad) were as good as anyone else's. They are too far out of the way to go to Kunia for but I wouldn't think twice about stopping by if I am in the neighborhood.

BBQ Hut might be close in location, but I don't recommend them because of the price and the poor service. The take out menu that I have states that the kalbi combo is $9.19, but the receipt reflected $12.99. I called the restaurant to inquire about the price change, but the person who answered the phone laughed, replied "you have the old menu," and then ended the conversation. The quality and quantity of the food definitely is not worth the price. I more than likely will not be going back to BBQ Hut.

soo many good choices from meat jun to new york steak. once in a while, i tend to drop by. Food is alright. I like the side dishes too.

This place gets some shaky reviews but in my opinion its pretty good. Its the same as any of your other run of the mill korean places. I am pretty picky because I come from a korean family but this place gets the job done. My recommendations are the spicy combo, spicy bbq chicken, and chicken katsu. They offer a variety of sides which are all okay. Nothing too amazing. This place is averagely priced so you will not overpay and the portions are pretty generous. They also have bubble drinks here which is awesome because I love bubble drinks. The bubble drinks here are pretty good. Not amazing but not bad. There is limited indoor seating but I do mostly takeout so its never really an issue. There is usually parking available and they have three stalls for takeout orders. They also do phone orders. Service is generally pretty good, nothing outstanding. I recommend it if youre looking for something quick and such.

I come to this place at least once a month. The price just went up but still pretty inexpensive for the amount of food you get. There's usually the same girl that takes your order (at least when I'm there) and I'm always hoping it's her because she gives a nice amount of veggies. When the Asian guy (I think he's related to the owner or is the owner) takes my order he's pretty greedy with the veggies. Not cool, dude. Their spicy beef and spicy kal-bi is pretty darn good. Meat jun is ok. I think their portion is generous compared to many other korean BBQ places nowadays. But, they charge extra for brown rice (which i think is odd since the price of white and brown rice is the same). All in all, this place is a-ok. As long as they keep their frequent dining stamp card, I will keep going! :)

The best way to describe this place is adequate. It's not great but not bad either. Likes: I like their happy hour from 1-5PM. I'd say the food for the prices is good. I like that they have the potato salad with mayo too. They also accept credit cards, but with a $10 minimum purchase. Dislikes: The garlic chicken was oily and bland. Also, they run out of sides, so be prepared to have alternates in mind. Favorites: The meat jun, while not the best I've had, would be my favorite at this location. If you go here, I'd recommend doing it between 1-5PM to get their happy hour specials. Otherwise, I'd stick to another fast food Korean BBQ chain, like Yummy.

So I went in to kill time before my haircut at Fantastic Sam's and wanted to buy two bubble drinks for my sister and I. Turns out, if you want to pay with card you have to spend a minimum of $10 or they'll tack on $0.50 to your charge. Kind of a bummer, but I ended up buying two musubis to make my total $11. Might as well, it was about lunch time anyway. The girl at the counter was nice about how long it took me to decide to order. As we waited for our food, I began to realize how hot it was in their, there was no fan or Ac running. Luckily we got our food soon enough and the bubble drink cooled me down. I liked the drink bc it's smooth, only found one small chunk of ice and the bubbles are nice and sweet. The musubi was alright, the spam was deep fried and they put a somewhat bland teriyaki sauce between that the rice. But overall a nice quiet place to eat.

I will never ever again eat here. Sorry to say but I had a very bad experience...like "give me my money back" experience. We ordered the garlic shrimp and chicken combo and decided that we were gonna share a plate (wedding weight stuffs). Ok so this was interesting... we opened the plate and the shrimp and chicken was drenched in batter. Literally when you pick it up with your hands it was dripping oil. OMG. To top it off...the entire bottom of the plate was covered in OIL. Oh geez...So we decided to get two pieces of BBQ chicken on the side... ... ... ... ... (that's the waiting forever mark) ... .. ... The fiancé goes up and asks where was our BBQ chicken....THE staff/server didn't even put our order in they were rushing to clean up! Oh no. So 30 seconds goes by and I asks the fiancé if we even needed the chicken...because by then our appetite was obviously gone. I went up to the girl and asked her for our money back. She said the chicken would take only 3 minutes. No it won't unless you want salmonella OR it was chicken that they were just going to pop on the grill real fast that was already cooked! Upsetting. Very upsetting. That's just too bad.

Wow...a bunch of people had bad reviews for this place. I had a decent time at this place. Not only that, the place looks really clean. It wasnt so busy when we went but when we did, they were offering a "happy hour" on their plate lunches. I wish I took a picture of the deals, but they were really good deals! They offer the usual Korean BBQ Plates but we got a combo. My wife and I shared it as it was a pretty big plate. Only thing was the long rice seemed a little "undercooked". I'll give a review update after I go again. This time, i'll list the happy hour specials! For $5 or $6, you can go wrong with a plate like that. Makes me think, "how do they stay in business with those prices?!"

  • Gizelle M.

The only pros is prices which are comparable. The service was slow. Before my husband and I ordered, a customer was waiting for his order of two bubble teas and then 3 minutes after paying for his drinks, he came back in asking if there were any bubble pearls in his drinks then the cashier nonchalantly says "oh we ran out of it." Its called bubble tea, that's why people buy them...He did however got a refund back. My husband ordered the Loco Moco and it's one of those dishes thats hard to mess up and guess what? They messed up. The whites on the egg was running, the burger was chared and the side choice of sweet potato were ice cold and weren't done. The awful part was that we were already home when we discover this horrible meal. My order on the other hand was okay. I ordered the Meat Jun, it was a little dry and the Kim Chee was good.

  • Jimmy S.

Stingy with their portions, I ordered a Kalbi plate. The Kalbi was mainly fat and no meat. They also charge 75 cents for refills..

  • Marnelli Joy B.

We usually eat at this place out of convenience. It's close to home, and easy to think of what to order. In terms of Korean food, it does the job. Service isn't the greatest... And probably my biggest gripe is once they run out of sides for the day, they don't make any more. I guess it's good since its always fresh during the day... but sucks when you're starving, went there to avoid fast food options, and get stuck with just kimchee and seaweed as choices...

    (2)
  • Kimberly S.

Quick friendly service! They're always patient when you're deciding what to eat. Food is always hot and fresh, made when ordered. I order their Meat Jun & Kalbi plate with 4 veggies on the side. Comes out to $10.26 after tax. Kinda pricey for my taste, but well worth it every time.

  • Nicole W.

I have eaten here a few times since it is so convient to pick up on the way home from work. Service: OK. Fairly quick. No one is ever particularly nice or rude. They seem like they just want to get you in and out quickly. Ambiance: Uninviting, but it is mainly a takeout place. Food: Average for the most part. I have only ever had the BBQ chicken and it is pretty good. I love that they give you 2 sides with the mini plate (which is not at all mini) because I love having a variety of food. Do note that the mini plate comes with 2 scoops of rice, 2 pieces of meat and 2 sides for about $7. The regular plate is 4 pieces of meat 2 scoops of rice and 4 sides for about $10. So, the prices are pretty good.

We decided to try this place out tonight cause it looked pretty good from the picture menu posted outside. I had the steak and shrimp and it costed about $11 alil much for a few pieces of steak and shrimp. The shrimp was not really clean and had to clean it myself not quite appetizing, and the steak was tender but alil fatty. There were very little sides to choose from, but it was ok. My boyfriend had the katsu and meat jun and he said it tasted alrite. But he COMPLETELY lost his appetite after he found a PUBIC HAIR in his side of seaweed. The girl seemed alil lost and dumb founded and said she didnt know what to do, so she called her boss and we got our money back for his plate. Too bad we had a bad experience here, i was really looking for a decent place to eat korean food. And no we will not be returning. Hopefully others have a better experience than we did.

Located in Kunia Shopping center just a few minutes away from home. Korean food Great service. Been there soo many time they know me and my family by name. They have specials between 1 and 5pm. Their Kalbi is good. I love their Bi Bim Bap. Their spicy menu is really spicy. Gotta have the Meat Jun too... so many choices to choose from. Also Bubble tea drink is a must if you like that type of drink. Get their punch card! It really rewarding... a free plate lunch (any plate) ;-)

Korean food...my love. This isnt the best korean restaurant but it does curb the cravings when your sitting in your office in Kunia and there is only a limited amount of places to choice from. Located in the Kunia Shopping Center, next to Baskin Robbins and near Auntie Pasto. Plenty of parking other than rush hour lunch time...so I would suggest not going between 11:45 - 12:30pm when every in the area is at lunch. On a good note, they have an afternoon lunch special. It starts at 1:30pm and you can get a meal for under $6. To me this is a deal! The choices are limited but I opted for the BBQ Chicken. The flavor is great and the size portion will fill you up. One thing that I didnt like was that the chicken isnt cut. If you are on the road, you can cut your chicken to eat. The vegetables are like most other places. I would think places would try and make one or two items different to set them apart from another Korean place that could be within driving distance.

This restaurant is great. Located near Kunia road and right next to Sumo Sushi and Thai Village one of my top Thai restaurant on my list. Today I ordered to go a BBQ beef and chicken combo with tofu, broccoli on the side. And I also ordered a milk tea bubble drink. It totaled together 11.00. The taste is better than good and not because I added some of my Bourbon BBQ sauce from home. The cashier girl was very polite and patient and the environment of the restaurant has a welcoming felling to it. This was my second time coming here and I'm sure I'll come here again later in the future before I leave the island next year.

A strip mall is like a tiny self-contained microcosm, at least the good ones are. BBQ Hut is located within the Kunia Shopping Center, not to be confused with any other Kunia-related shopping areas or what not. In any case, it serves a specific purpose among the random assortment of shops that litter the KSC (it's what the cool kids should call it...totally) as the only purveyor of Korean-style BBQ therein. The food here is tasty and, of course, made to order. If you're in a rush, just be sure to call ahead and make sure you know what side-orders you want with your meal. My personal favorite meal is a toss-up between either their meat jun (sliced nice and thin so you can practically cut it with your chopsticks) always with the side of gochujan or their kim-chi fried rice. Their regular prices might seem a little steep sometimes, but their portions are generous. For example, the kim-chi fried rice is about $7 normally, but what you're getting is an entire take-out plate/box full of tasty goodness. Even their mini-plates still come with a enough food to qualify as a decent meal. Also, make sure to grab a couple of their fresh-made spam musubi if you want a simple, handheld snack to-go. If price is really an issue, make sure to come by for their "happy hour" as another Yelper mentioned, between 1PM and 5PM on most days of the week to enjoy some discounted pricing. Just make sure to either bring cash, or, ensure that your bill hits at least the $10 mark if you'd prefer to use plastic. Being a part of a strip mall, a tiny little strip mall, parking is often one of the greatest annoyances for small eateries, especially when you're just looking to pick-up an order for take-out. Thankfully, BBQ Hut has managed to snag a fifteen-minute "rock star" parking stall which makes darting in and out simple enough. The staff is friendly, the dining area is kept clean, and they do have a kiddie menu available as well. It's not a bad idea to bring the family there for lunch or an early dinner whether you just got to the area or you're on your way out. BBQ Hut is a wonderful and delicious part of the microcosm that is the KSC (remember to tell your friends to start calling it that and that I was the one who told you, okay?)

Ive been coming here for a while now and its your typical Korean bbq. The good thing about this place is that they have a stamp card where you get free mandoo and a free regular size plate lunch when completed. Also they got happy hour where the prizes dropped about $2 off. But one thing I noticed is that they gave less potion of the sides. Im pretty sure they gave more than what I received.

BBQ Meat + Chicken Combo plate FTW!!! I come here every so often because the Beast's (aka my boyfriend) working place is just a few commercial doors down. Their BBQ Meat is grindz! But their Meat Jun is just OK. Not as good as that place in Wahiawa. And if you're craving that forgotten Bubble Tea drink (I had my first sip last year thanks to BBQ Hut) that was so popular 15 years ago...you can find it here! They offer a variety of flavors from coffee to strawberry. The staff here are friendly and nice. The girl taking the orders is always smiling and never forgets to thank us when we leave. I recommend the BBQ Meat and the Kim Chee Fried Rice.

  • Silky S.

Pretty good food, but relatively pricey when compared to similar korean plate lunch eateries. Good bbq taste on chicken, pork, and beef. Good katsu curry. Good kimchee fried rice. Why not 5 stars? Customer service especially on phone-in orders absolutely sucks. Phone line quality, first of all, is full of static, so this already makes communication difficult. On one occasion, the lady with the heavy Chinese accent keeps us on hold for roughly 5 minutes before disconnecting us. Another time as she is taking our order, she keeps stopping to talk to someone and consequently, we have to keep repeating our order to her. Once i ordered the add-on garlic shrimp which they forgot to include in my order.... The last straw was when my wife got sick after eating the chicken. Haven't gone back since and don't plan to.

  • Phil J.

The food is just about as average as you get. The counter person had no enthusiasmor dsire to be there. Must be a family thing. The kalbi was like chewing shoe leather. The meat jun and bbq chicken were good. The veggies were highly edible but nothing exciting. No need to go out of the way to eat here.

    (2)
  • Joel P.

was gonna eat at the chinese restro but the pix outside looks good. Big Mistake !! ordered bbq chxn/meat jun combo. food was bland, no taste whatsoever. sides were empty and bland. top it all off, lady in register could not speak english well and had no customer service. better make the trip to tastys..

    (1)
  • Guy H.

I've eaten here a couple of times now and can say that they have been consistent with the food. The best way for me to put the food in context is to compare it with other Korean places in the same classification. The Kalbi is good and I actually like theirs the best. The BBQ chicken is ok but places like Gina's in Market City Chopping Center are better; same for the BBQ beef. The vegetables (cabbage and bean sprouts) are bland and the bulgogi (shoyu noodles) are better almost anywhere else. If you order the bi bim kook soo spicy, make sure you get some extra spice to supplement. The food is just ok, but after having the same thing 3 times in a row and finding it constant I think I should try other items on their extensive menu and see if maybe there's something else they may do better.

    (3)
  • George N.

Service is good...But the food is OK... BBQ Chicken has no taste and the Kalbi is salty and has no flavor..The sides is also has no flavor..Better go Yummys. The food picture looks so good and tasty but its not..Heard the Korean chicken is good. So gonna give another try..Wait for my review soon.

Tried pearl kai store - way junk service and food. Gave real little amounts compared to Waipahu resturant. Would not recomend. One star is very generous.

Pretty good Korean Food on this side of the island. The meat jun is okay, the sides are good especially when they lots to pick from. They have a great deal going on right now. Mini-plates$5.00 Reg.-plates$6.00 Combos$7.00 this is between 1:00pm to 5:00pm. Kind of like happy hour for food. Also Baskin Robbins right next door....

I love this place. I just wish they stayed open late so when im starving at midnight i could go get some GOOD food to eat instead of Jack in the Crack. Kinda pricy but definitely makes up for it in the taste department. I got the BBQ Chicken and chicken katsu the first time i went and it was awesome. I got 4 sides AND rice, Oh man i was so happy. Everything was delicious, the chicken was tasty and the katsu sauce was on point. I have already gone back for more and will continue to do so

I came here because I had a coupon and wanted to try some man doo kook soo (korean dumplings and noodles in hot soup). I got it for $6.50 something but regular price would have been $8.19 (ouch!) lol, so I got a deal. I went a little after lunch time and it wasn't crowded so idk how good they are but my soup was good. It was hot/spicy like thought it would be but adding some hot sauce just kicks it up another notch. The noodles were thin like somen noodles, there were about 5 big dumplings that were really tasty, there was egg with pieces of shredded beef. Overall I really liked it. But since it was my first taste I don't really know how it compares but i'd prob get it again. However i'd want to try more dishes like the meat jun, bbq chicken, bi bim kook soo, etc to see how it compares to other fast food korean.

Very stingy portions for the price especially with the sides. Not sure if affiliated with Yummy's but this is my first and last time at "BBQ hut" in waipahu.

  • Adam H.

I love this place! It's fast, easy, and delicious! I never had fish or meat jun before I moved here and now I'm hooked. Their good sides run out quick though. Plus its just a short drive down the road and located in a shopping center that offers everything (literally everything from daycare to burritos).

    (5)
  • Kim B.

Terrible tasting food, high prices, appalled that they barely gave 1 scoop of rice for a bbg chix and meat jun combo, then when i went to get more rice, was charged $1.50 for another tiny scoop. Avoid going here to waste your money since you'll be leaving still feeling hungry.

    (1)
  • JOE A.

Wow! From my point of view, this is the one of the worse Korean restaurant. The yok gae jang had no taste, and to sum it all up the noodles were hard! The bbq beef had no taste whatsoever. Furthermore, their kalbi was straight up bones with no meat. Top all of this with crappy order takers with no customer service, who seems unwilling to serve customers. Go somewhere else.

    (1)
  • John G.

i ordered bi bim kook so plate for my wife, to go. when i got home, i noticed a dead cocka roach inside the plate took it back to the restaurant and the owner refuse to give my money back, but instead want to give me another plates. why would i get another plates knowing that there may be more roach in there. i would never eat this place again. and the manager is very rude.

    (1)
  • Z L.

The portions are so small! The vegetables tasted horrible too. Not gonna eat here again.

  • Kevin P.

Good food always come here for the spicy bbq chicken yum Usually when the guy cashier is there he seems to remember me since I come here so often haha great service from him. But when the girl cashier is there kinda seems she's blanked out doesn't smile nothing like a robot. And she was kinda selfish with my sides like literally gave me 3 pieces of broccoli Today when my food is ready she didn't even say anything to me at least a thank you say something sheesh just felt awkward AF haha. Overall good food great service(mostly) Btw Beware! The heavy front door lol

    (4)
  • Grace S.

Had the meat jun and its dry n the sauce is just shoyu n vinegar! very disappointed n paid over $10.00.....Not the very best meat jun, wasted my money!!! Plus the girl cannot understand English that good every time I ask her something she says "huh"! Ugh waste my money on my dinner n my kids dinner!

    (1)
  • Jewela C.

I come here often enough that the lady behind the counter will ask if I order something different, 'no kimchee fried rice today?' Aside from the lack of parking sometimes, this place is one of the better 'fast food' Korean places on the west side.

    (4)
  • Lance I.

So we just checked in to eat...and bam yelp had a offer form them for free mando..I was able to use it after I even placed my order...great service and no problems

Food is consistent, and staff is super nice! Never a bad experience. Also, their Bubble Drinks are yummy!

  • Darren N.

I'm surprised how many bad reviews this place got. The dish I had was Korean chicken which was stellar. Evenly sauced and crispy. They have a bunch of sides which were all kept clean looking while in the trays. Now for the obvious negative is that though they offer a mini option for their plates, the cost is roughly the same as a regular sized plate at other Korean take out places. 4 stars for good food and no gripes with service, but simply the price of the food costs this place a star.

    (4)
  • Patrick S.

the food is not...like OMG i gotta come here, lol but it good. decent korean/ local food . the previous owners was pretty bad.

    (3)
  • Mary D.

The prices are high and they don't have a lot of sides to offer. The food overall was ok. I was disappointed that they only offered a few side dishes. It's location is super close to home but for the price, I'd rather drive down to Tasty's. The honeydew bubble tea was good. The girl behind the counter looked absolutely sick of her job. No smile, no greeting. That didn't help when she had to tell us "this is all we have for sides." If she had smiled, was cordial and maybe EXPLAINED why the sides were lacking (late in the evening, ran out, etc.) maybe I would've have felt extra jipped.

  • Bryanie R.

I come here for the happy hour! Don't forget guys, Monday-Thursday between 1 and 5 I believe. Considering the happy hour, it's a good place to get your stomach full on a cheaper price. I usually get the meat jun, regular plate, which comes out to about $7.75? It's good because they do give a lot. And it's way better than paying full price, which comes out to almost 9 dollars. But it is a little bit hot in there when I did eat in. Maybe the ac wasn't running. I'm not sure.

    (4)
  • Jasmine B.

I like their fish Jun & meat jun. Also their chicken Katsu. The price is reasonable especially at happy hour. They give a lot too. But for their burgers, they need to cut down on the onion lol or atleast use sweet onion cz the taste of it is tooo strong. Lol

    (4)
  • F F.

TRIED the Korean Garlic Fried Noodle, because I wanted something different and it was quite delicious! It's a thicker type of noodle sort of like udon but much firmer. Good garlic semi sweet flavor, with chopped bbq beef and red peppers topped off with bonito and nori.

    (4)
  • Paul C.

Now we were the only people here and wow! I got some serious kimchi rice!!!! Really good but not the best! needs to be a little more spicey. The spicy BBQ chix is mmm ok. I agree with other reviews. I just like it cuz I didn't eat all day LOL

    (3)
  • Sam D.

Very giving 2-star rating. Pros: Food is okay, happy hour pricing Cons: Uninviting atmosphere, 'you are wrong and I am right' attitude from staff, cold food (ordered a side of Mandu and received it way after the entree and the Mandu was very cold), server did not call out food after it was ready (I guess we need to learn how to read minds) Overall, food is okay and sometimes too oily. Room for much improvement.
