My hubs and I came in for our anniversary dinner, and were seated at a nice table outside :) we loved watching the sky dim down. We had a great server who was very nice and helpful in us making choices in what to order. We ended up ordering calamari & prawns, side order of the mushroom risotto, mozzarella with marinara, and for desert a chocolate thingy (don't remember the name) haha! Overall, we really enjoyed the dinner and most of all the risotto, were big time risotto fans and we had an awesome one! We will be back; Mahalo Saltimbocca!

Bryan (the bartender) was fantastic. Great service for drinks and happy hour. Happy hour menu was good - most items available and we enjoyed 3 out of 3 items we ordered. Dinner? Skip it. The dining room is great with a wonderful view and fresh breezes, but they need to work on the pasta dishes for an Italian restaurant. We had two different pasta dishes; one was bland with undercooked pasta, and the gnocchi was so mushy it had to go back. Just do happy hour and enjoy!

Sadly, it served it's last meal on July 5, 2015 and now closed.

We declined coming to Saltimbocca during a promotional period as we don't like to be guinea pigs when dining out. Being that they've been open for several weeks now, it was a perfect time to try them out. ATMOSPHERE: You're greeted with huge windows, ambient lighting, and house music reminiscent of a big city restaurant, which was awesome. There's great views of Maalaea Harbor. The interior décor is contemporary and modern. High ceilings make for an airy feel. There's a small bar off to the side, with the kitchen in plain sight as the huge window theme continues with gigantic paned glass allowing you to peer into the work area. There's also a small outdoor lanai with a few tables. FOOD: Caesar salad - The dressing was delish, a little tangy but more creamy. Came topped with a single anchovy and croutons. A bit pricey at $11 especially for the portion size. $8 would be adequate. Lobster tagliatelle - The lobster bisque-based sauce was good but not as mouth watering as I had hoped for. There was no depth, or richness, just a very light creamy tomato flavor. Lobster chunks were good but not generous enough to command a $28 price. The pasta is home made, a plus for some but not for me, as I don't care for the texture. I'm a dry pasta guy. SERVICE: We walked in without reservations for a party of 6 at 6:15 on a Sunday night. We waited about 15 minutes to be seated due to our table size, so I'd recommend reservations if you have 6+. We tried to get a drink order in while in the lounge area but our table was ready before our drinks came. Our server Zac was awesome. Very friendly, down to earth, and professional. OVERALL: Nice menu, great service and a bit pricey. Definitely will be back to try more dishes.

This restaurant has gone downhill. We've been here at least 8 times since they opened and it had been consistently good. Unfortunately, dinner Friday night was not good. They have raised the prices and changed the menu. Service was subpar, entrees were ok. We had the shrimp cocktail app, it came with 4 small boiled shrimp and a side of pesto. It was yuck and for $13, awful! Caesar salad was dry, needed olive oil added to the dressing, and again for the price, $12, not worth it. Total bill was $140. We won't go here again unless it's for the early bird special.

We had a great evening tonight. I read a lot of other Yelp reviews before we tried out this place. The Pumpkin Ravioli was reviewed as a top pick from several other reviewers, and also I concur it's a Great selection. The Pumpkin ravioli was outstanding, great on taste, great on presentation. The risotto was a hit for another guest at our table. Then to top off the meal the Gnocchi Pasta was a great choice for the 3rd person. So all 3 of us had winners. We had a great evening. This will be on my return list.

We stopped here on the advice of a waiter for happy hour. He told us that they offer samples of their menu entrees. We tried the Spagetti and meatballs the gnocchi the calamari w shrimp and the Caesar salad. Except for the salad everything was awful! The calamari w shrimp -only 1- was prefixes and tasted only of batter. The Spagetti was not good and I cannot describe the gnocchi It must have been frozen bit tasted of glue. Really. I understand this is a convenient place but run

This location was a Branch of Cafe O'Lei which was solid and then when it changed to On the Water Front I was excited. Unfortunately they are no longer at this location. So when I saw this new place I thought wow a new Italian Restaurant on Maui I will have to try it out. Great Staff - but wasted on Poorly executed food. Staff I made reservations easily on open table. We arrived early and were greeted timely and they sat us immediately. Mind you this was a week night and actually pretty busy. Waiter the waiter was cordial remember our order with out writing it down and hey overall a nice guy. Food Bread - the bread was awesome and the olive oil and balsamic vinegar was not cheap and actually very good and the only thing I would recommend to eat. We order the poached pear salad to share and it was definitely big enough for 2. However it did not have enough gorgonzola to contrast the sweetness of the salad because they put candied walnuts on it instead of the advertised spiced pistachio. This made the salad more like a desert then a salad. Wrong ingredients Next it was the Spinach Pappardelle with shrimp and capers. I say CAPERS because they were so bitter it over powered the dish and left a not so good after taste. Poor Execution The Carbonnara that was MEH not good not bad. Just not great in fact pretty salty as it overpowered the rest of the night. Poor Execution We passed on desert only to have a freebie delivered to our table stating it was something new they were going to put on the menu next week. It was called a Zeppole with molten chocolate inside and a raspberry coolie sauce. Ok I have never had a zeppole and after a little research there are apparently two types light and fluffy or pasta like. This was pasta like consistency that we had to literally stab and pull violently since we were only given forks. We labored to cut the damn thing into bites. This round orb was so chewy and the chocolate not molten but pasty combined with an over sweet raspberry syrup created a poor creation of this Italian desert. Over all this place food wise is not good. Atmosphere and staff I give it an A++++ great people just not good food. The service and staff saved this from a 1 star to 2 stars. Gosh if this place could execute the dishes properly and have a better wine list it would be set... If this does not happen I don't think it will be open next year.

Mmmm.. not bad. Small portions though! Pasta's should at least come with bread or salad. I wasn't full enough.. but I love the creamy Carbonara!

Had a celebration at Saltimboca. Service was great. Food so very average. Meatballs were bland. Veal picatta was not flavorful. Ceasar Salad dressing was unnoticeable. At first I thought they forgot the dressing so I asked for a side of dressing. It was without some ingredients, I'm sure. I had to use some of the dipping olive oil and balsamic vinegar to eat it. This will be another of the many restaurants that won't make it in that location. Love spot for a cocktail. Go somewhere else to dine.

We had a large party (12) and some of us can be difficult if service is not on par. They had great service and the pumpkin ravioli was awesome. My 1 year old was fussy during meal service, it was his bedtime and our waiter took him for a walk around the restaurant so we could eat!

Winner of the "Most Meager $15 salad" award. But, it's Maui. So price has no meaning. As a nonglutenite, I tend to avoid Italian restaurants. Self-torture isn't really my thing. But as luck would have it, *Saltulicci's has gluten free pasta. *Strombonis has a varied menu, which includes, as expected, a smattering of seafood favs. Personally, I find it exorbitant to spend $30 on an entree that's mostly pasta and tomato paste, but... "shrug". It wasn't a disappointing meal, again, the fact that gf pasta was offered and that it wasn't bland or overcooked translates into major points. The atmosphere at *Salucci's is delightfully Tuscan with a modern, open kitchen design. Giant windows allow diners to gaze out onto the Maalea harbor... we even saw a few whales! Dinner and a show - check. Overall, I recommend giving *Spagucci a shot if you're a fan of quality Italian and don't mind a slightly elevated sticker price. The Gnocchi, Bolognese, and Veal all received rave reviews from the party I was with. I chose the seafood pasta dish, and it was tasty albeit a little... spare on the seafood. (What's a girl gotta do to get another scallop in this joint?). *denotes the alternate names the restaurant was referred to by multiple members in my party. "Spagucci" is the hands-down winner.

We visited Saltimbocca after driving by the a random re commendation by a gentleman in the elevator where we were staying. We arrived early around 5pm without a reservation. We went to the bar to enjoy a couple drinks and a couple PuPu's during Happy Hour. We were later seated on the patio to dine and enjoy the view. Our server "Rob" was very friendly, knowledgable and polite. We ordered based on his recommendations. Beet and Goat Cheese Salad, Pumpkin Ravioli, Linguine alle Vongole, and a Sausage Pasta dish (don't remember the name). The pasta is homemade and the sauces are flavorful! We all loved our dishes! In a nice bonus...the bread was homemade as well! I highly recommend Saltimbocca and we will definitely will become repeat diners whenever we are in Maui!!

Drinks were watered down, happy hour appetizers were very bland. Place was dead for a happy hour. Bartenders were pretty blah as far personality. They weren't very interested in chatting. We had contemplated going there for a special dinner while in Maui but we skipped it. Go across the mall to Porto's for better food and atmosphere.

We dropped by here on our first night in Maui since it was close to our condo. We won't likely be back. We arrived around dinner, and the restaurant was largely empty. We sat at a table with a view of the harbour - the decor was nice, but nothing terribly fancy. Our waiter greeted us, and left us with some menus to browse. The food prices were quite high. Most menu items were over $15, and mostly a la carte. They presented us with a plate of bread with oil and vinegar for dipping before the meal, but all other items were extra. No salad or garlic bread included with the meal itself. The meal presentations left a lot to be desired. The special was a spinach pasta with a pork ragu - it came as a small pile of green-grey goop in the middle of a bowl. The pork was strong, and the consistency and flavour were basically of ground pork with gravy. I wouldn't come back again, mostly because there is no value here at all. The service wasn't even great - our waiter seemed too hungry for tips and to upsell everything on the menu. You can't use hand flourishes when describing pork ragu and deliver me goulash. Pass on this place, and head downstairs to Beach Bum's or into Kihei for more selection and better value

This is very much a destination restaurant and it was disappointing to travel all the way there and be let down. We came as a group and had checked out the menu online, we were excited to see lobster dishes and other shell fish as it is hard to find these things on maui menus. Lobster dishes were substituted for prawns (same price) and also out of a lot of other menu items :( service was sub par and slow. Food arrives, tasty but nothing fantastic. I hope things change so I can recommend to others

Little bit slower mid-week - as a matter of fact, we were the only ones there at 8pm. The service was good - greeted nicely when we walked in and the food arrived in a timely manner. Tried the putanesca (eeh, I have had better) and spaghetti with meatballs (okay, also). I would say that this is not the best nor the worst italian food on the island in an out-of-the-way location (unfortunately for them).

We went to this restaurant a second time and our next experience was HORRIBLE!!!! I felt so inclined to edit my review so as not to steer people wrong. I think the word here would be inconsistent. I originally had the Gnocchi entree and loved it. So the second time I ordered the Gnocchi appetizer for dinner wanting a smaller portion. It was inedible, the potatoes were lumpy and mealy somehow all at the same time. It was sauteed in rosemary so heavy my mouth felt like I ate a whole rosemary plant. My VERY celiac husband ordered from the Gluten Free Menu only to find out his dinner was NOT gluten free by any stretch of the word and was SO sick. It was a terrible experience from dirty smudgy wine glasses, lack luster inexperienced service and then follow up by terrible food. ugh..... Stunning real Italian food. I had the Gnocchi and LOVED them! They were soft and light and just absolutely melted in your mouth. The service was amazing, friendly, prompt, but not pushy or over bearing. We also tried a few of their cocktails and were not disappointed. If you are looking for real classic Italian food this is the place to try! They also have a variety of gluten free options so don't be scared away if you are celiac, my husband was able to safely eat here!

I cant wait to go back! My wife, friends and their 2 kids all thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Saltimbocca. The best Italian food we have had in Maui. The atmosphere is welcoming and friendly. Excellent service. Great wines. I had the spaghetti bolognese which was impeccable, my wife loved the gnocchi, which they make in-house! And the kids thought the bruschetta, pasta and gelato for dessert was incredible! We will definitely be regulars. This is one of the best restaurants on Maui!

I keep hearing Chef Gordon Ramsay in the back yelling, "Did you taste this? Did you season this? What!...........Is this?" Seriously the food lacked flavor, it was very odd, one of the dishes with veal and eggplant (can't remember the name), we couldn't tell what either ingredient was by flavor. It had a strange plastic like flavor to the whole thing. I personally had the Ossobuco, I love lamb and have had it many times before. This too was the strangest Ossobuco. There was no flavor, it tasted like it had been boiled and then some strange tomato like sauce was poured over it. It's rare that I ask for salt, but on this occasion I had to. For some reason this location hasn't had a good run... every other restaurant has pulled out of this spot. Unfortunately I have a feeling this one won't be around much longer if things don't change quickly.

Came for a mommy/daughter date with my 7 year old, which was long overdue. The restaurant itself is quite beautiful with a great view of the harbor. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Our waitress, I believe her name is Anna, was really wonderful at making our date feel special. Hoping for some really great Italian food (and a cheat day for my diet!) we wanted some garlic bread but nothing was brought to the table so I ordered two kinds of bruschetta. $10 for three pieces of bruschetta was pretty steep, especially since the bread itself tasted a little stale. Unfortunately, there was also no kids menu so I was trying to find something that my 7 year old would like for dinner, which was really hard! Fortunately, a special was a pizza type item and she ordered that while I ordered the lobster pasta dish. Anna let me know that the chef uses cumin in the sauce, which I thought was interesting and different. When our food came, a basket of bread came too (well that would have been nice before I ordered $20 of stale bruschetta!). The sauce on my daughter's pizza was a roasted pepper sauce and she hated it. She just ate the bread. My lobster pasta was just ok - the cumin definitely threw off the flavors that I was expecting. At $30, I felt it definitely fell short of all expectations. So for the service and friendliness of staff I'll give them stars but I thought the food was overpriced and not very good - even though it's touted as modern Italian food you'd still expect it to have Italian flavors. Most likely won't be back. Wished I would have taken her to Ka'ana Kitchen at Andaz instead for the same price!

A must try in Maui. We have been to Saltimbocca several times over their first year and are returning Again Sunday. I would go more often if it weren't for the drive from the west side- but it's worth it! This is authentic Italian food. Their carbonara for example is not Americanized with heavy cream and cheese but made traditionally with fresh egg as it is in Italy. The Bolognas is my favorite with their home-made pasta. Let's keep this restaurant here in Ma'alea. Ellen

Saltimbocca has a really nice atmosphere, and friendly staff, although our waiter took half of our party of 7 app order and ran off and we had to get his attention in order to let him know we didnt finish our app order. It was warmer than we hoped, I actually found myself sweating while waiting. I ordered the gnocchi entree but was disappointed. The MOP was not stated so I had to ask. Even though it was boiled, it was undoubtedly boiled far to long and was very mushy, and had a gummy texture. I had to send it back. On the plus side, the bruschetta was delicious.

Keep it simple is our motto... we enjoyed it very much, good service, great food and delicious wine. But the most important thing is: the tiramisu is really italienne like, only the double of an italienne portion! Try it!

My "go to" place in Maalaea on Wednesdays (prime rib special) was PACKED and I was hungry. I meandered into Saltimbocca to give it a try. They've only been open a few months. Since I was by myself I sat in the bar. Kona Castaway on tap...yes! Great view.....yes! Great ambiance....yes! Friendly bartender....yes! Looked at the menu, couldn't decide, so I asked for a recommendation. Veal Picatta...oh OMG YES!!!! Portion size is perfect. A little expensive, but ABSOLUTE quality dish. The menu is a little sparse, but a good mix overall. I wish they had a Meat Lasagna on the menu for us American Pasta Purists. I WILL BE BACK!

Had heard a few good things about the latest restaurant to open in this apparently doomed location so we thought we'd give it a try. I really wanted to like it. Made a reservation and was seated promptly after refusing the first table as I wanted to sit closer to the wonderful view. Waited 10 minutes until my waitress came to take a drink order and then she went on over the whole menu while I patiently waited for her to go get my drink. 10 minutes later, she showed up with an excellent negroni. So, high marks for featuring Italian drinks - they even had an Aperol Spritz. Bad marks for running out of bottled water. Our waitress, Sara, was very nice. Menu had a few interesting things and they knew you serve Bolognese on tagliatelle and not spaghetti. One of us had the beet salad which would have been good had the goat cheese not been a little off. My insalata mista was very good but I tend to like almost anything with toasted pine nuts. Portions were very large. L. had the Pork Milanese which was a little bland but well cooked. It was served with excellent sauteed potatoes and asparagus. I had osso bucco. their version was an overcooked lamb shank in a pretty good sauce over risotto. The risotte was pretty good for a side dish. The owners obviously care, they were circling the restaurant a lot. The waitstaff were very friendly but seemed a bit untrained - like a lot of Maui waiters. They had a few decent wines by the glass. I will go back and give them another try sometime but for my money, they don't hold a candle to the new Osteria Matteo in Wailea. Matteo's has the food, Saltimbocca has the view.

I decided to try out Saltimbocca for my birthday dinner and I was not disappointed. We were a table of 8 and we were seated out on a terrace overlooking the harbor. Our waiter was friendly and efficient and he was happy to explain some of Italian vocabulary on the menu that we were unfamiliar with. There was nothing stuffy or overly formal about the service. This is a beautiful restaurant with an equally beautiful view that won't make you feel like you have to mind your manners. We decided to order several items to share. We ordered salad, soup, bruschetta, a couple of sides, and several pastas. The pumpkin ravioli were made in house and had a generous amount of creamy, sweet pumpkin filling. They were on a bed of walnut / pecan sauce and served with fried sage and butter. I wish I had ordered a plate for myself. The Eggplant Parmesan comes as a side dish. It was beautifully presented - cut in a circle instead of a saucy blob like it is usually served. It was delicious and also light. Not oily and just the right amount of sauce and cheese. I could happily order this and a salad for lunch and be a very happy girl. I didn't try it (because I'm a vegetarian) however my guests said that the Pappardelle and Bolognese were some of the best they have ever had. We finished with several of their desserts. The panna cotta was light and airy which I wasn't expecting from panna cotta however it was delicious. The strawberry tiramisu was also a surprise hit. I would have liked a fruit based dessert or something without cream but that wasn't an option. The chef has a light hand when it comes to how much oil he uses which I appreciate. Nothing felt heavy or overly sauced. Even the Masha Pasta which has a cream sauce wasn't unnecessarily heavy (the non-vegetarians loved this dish too.) Wow - this review is getting long. Bottom line, we had a fantastic evening and enjoyed the food. Maui needs a place like this. I'm looking forward to going back.

Not the best Italian food on Maui, but for being on Maui, it's decent. The restaurant itself is nicely appointed, large windows, high ceilings, comfortable chairs and a great view. The server we had was very nice, however he seemed very new and later on even told us that it he had only been there for a week. We did not have bread service, and he could not recommend a wine, however he did ask the bartender to assist. I thought the Saltimbocca dish that I had was good although over-seasoned. I get the feeling this dish could vary by which cook is on hand that night. We also had the Gnocchi and by itself it was delicious. The sauce they had it covered in, it almost tasted out of a can. My guy didn't think it did, but I did...so it could just be my tastebuds were already affected by my entree, highly probable and most likely. As far as the prices are concerned, it's very on par with other restaurants on Maui. I was not surprised. Expect to pay between $80-$100 plus tip (app/wine/entree/dessert) for 2 peeps.

Our party of 6 came last night to celebrate a birthday & were excited to try this new place for the 1st time. Although the restaurant looked very classy & clean, it was terribly stuffy & hot with no a/c or strong fans going. The tables are INCREDIBLY cramped, no room to barely walk between aisles & the proximity of the chairs to other tables was ridiculously close. I immediately had a clausterphobic feeling which is unusual for me. Our server was friendly but I felt like she was trying too hard to "oversell" certain items & talked a little bit too much. Very slow to bring drinks or bread. I must say that the food came out in a timely fashion & was extremely tasty for the most part. I had the pumpkin ravioli which was delicious but overpriced for the portion size for sure. All the dishes we felt were overpriced. Caesar salad was sub par, the one next door at Porto's blows it away for far less of a price. Everyone enjoyed their main courses and the staff was attentive to refill water & check to see how we were doing. Plates were also taken away right on time. Desserts were spectacular! Vanilla bean gelato, Panna Cotta, Perfiterols...delicious. At the end of the meal it took FOREVER for our bill to arrive & be dealt with. Server disappeared, so we had to flag down another random employee to check us out. All in all I give Saltimbocca 3 stars because the food was all around very good. The cramped table & lack of a/c or fans really put a damper on the atmosphere. So much so that I don't know if I'd ever return with a party larger than two and would insist on being seated outdoors. They also need to amp up the portion sizes to justify the prices.

This is the best Italian restaurant on Maui!! It also offers beautiful outside dining with views of the harbor. The menu offers a fine selection of gluten free and vegan options. Service was excellent!!! During the week the dinners are 25 per cent off and on Fri and Sat the dinners are 2 for 1 ( which was a welcome surprise). We highly recommend this restaurant as we plan to return.

Dropped in here after we went to the Aquarium. Had the spaghetti and an eggplant parmesan on the side and it was awesome. Since my wife is Vegetarian, this place has great options for both of us to eat and she really enjoyed it too. It's so hard to find a place we both like to eat at.We come to Maui every year or two and this is going to be our new goto place for that area of the island. The view of the harbor is to die for. All the people were friendly, even the other customers. Everyone was pointing out when they saw whales int he harbor and it was very exciting. Should have brought some binoculars.

Bartender greeted us, then ignored us. I didn't mind that he handled the dining room drinks first. I understand waiting for that when he was busy. I appreciated that he did a quick check of the other half of the bar for refills, orders, but when he settled in to chat up the two young blondes that had half full drinks and appetizers in front of them instead of taking our order We walked out. He gave us an odd look but didn't say anything to us as we passed. Might have stayed for dinner but not if we get treated like that.

We had a lovely dinner there tonight. Sweet potato gnocchi for appetizer, I had the pumpkin ravioli and my husband had the mahi mahi. Both dishes were excellent. We had chocolate, coffee and cream for dessert - also excellent. Our server was Robert and he was wonderful. As visitors to Maui, he even gave us ideas for destinations to visit on the island. They make their pasta and bread fresh daily and you can taste the difference. The restaurant itself is very nice and situated in a gorgeous location. I would definitely recommend thus place.

Let me start by saying I have now eaten here 4 times. 3 times for dinner and once for lunch. Every single time I have been impressed. I am a chef and have been in the food service business for 14 years. I am always hesitant to go to a new restaurant. I usually wait about 3 months then try it out. Let me say I am glad I didn't wait on this one. Because of my restaurant back ground I always ask lots of questions about all aspects of the business. Here is a quick summary of what I found out about this place: The chef was born and raised in Italy (so yes it's authentic), they make everything in house daily. From their breads to their sauces to their pastas and everything in between. Local and organic is their goal. I always love supporting a local business that supports other local businesses. There are some items they import from Italy. The imported olive oil and balsamic vinegar with their fresh baked bread is delicious. I have had the opportunity to try a lot of their food since I always sample from everyone's plate at my table : ) Everything I tried I thoroughly enjoyed so here is a list of some of those items: Caesar salad, caprese salad, all of their bruschettas, calamari, pumpkin ravioli's, caprese sandwich, carbonera, osso bucco, sal tim bocca, bolognese, masha's pasta, pork chop, mushroom risotto, panicotta, sorbetto's, tiramisu, profiteroles. I know I have eaten more than these but these are the most memorable because of the flavors. For me the portions were perfect. Just enough so I didn't leave feeling sick from eating to much (when food tastes so good I have a hard time refraining from eating it all). This is a family restaurant. I love being able to come in with my husband and enjoy a nice romantic dinner with some Italian wine or being able to come in with our baby and not feeling unwelcome. The last time I was there with a lot of friends and a first timer made the remark of how much at home she felt and that she would definitely be back. The service is also impeccable. Very friendly and knowledgeable. I will definitely be back again and again to visit my new favorite restaurant. Overall I feel the prices are very reasonable for the food that you get, service is great, location is ideal for not having to go all of the way to the west side or all of the way to wailea and ambiance is welcoming with a great view of the harbor.

Aloha All... Rainy evening, Italian sounded good and a review is due on Saltimbocca, nice location on the harbor at Maalaea. Parking no problem, nice views, walk in and step right up to the waitress and quickly scouted the place. Half full. Bar ¾ open and lots of staff. Okay, so I am a single dining alone. No one is meeting me. I am here to work and have some delicious Italian yum.... Should have left when the hostess asked me if I wanted the bar or a table. I said a table. She looked around and checked in visually with the other hostess and told me all the tables were reserved. So again they offered the bar. Which I did not want to sit at. The chairs looked comfortable in the bar lounge area, but the tables were coffee table height. Not good for having a full dinner, but I took the second option. I decided on a Caesar salad, eggplant parmesan and bruschetta to start. Nice menu, not vast, but when you see one like that it makes you think that every entrée is perfect. Waiter returns, I order, it is just before 7 and they are out of the eggplant. Hmmm. Not a good start here...I had to change the order to the salad, bread and vinaigrette, and a pasta with lobster. OK. Wait wait wait. Waiter came back a couple of times, once with bread, wherein I told him I was here to do a review, he came back with a drink. The drink was good! Mojito was just right. One for the bartender. Salad arrives after 20 min, exactly. The place was not booming, but you would think it would come a little sooner...anyway, result: Yellow lettuce, the kind you usually pick through and throw away when you are serving guests in your home, the kind that has no flavor and tastes, well, yellow. Washed out dressing, had to really search for garlic flavor, one sardine placed on the top. Even worse, bagged old cannot even bite them croutons. Okay, I expected way better from this type of restaurant. Very disappointing, Did I mention how hard it is to eat when the table is at knee level and you are in a regular chair? Pasta arrives, looks like a typical pasta dish. Little taste, sauce is interesting. I ask for extra cheese. Waiter returns with a wedge and a grater and says he will put it on, grates it and says that is enough because it is salty enough. Well. I like cheese, I like flavor. I would have liked cheese at the table to add as I pleased. I ordered a lobster pasta dish.....where was the lobster? No chunks, no identifiable pieces. Only a few of what I would call "crumbs". No kidding. 28.00 for a bowl of noodles with sauce and minute no bigger than 1/8 inch pieces of lobster, a couple of cherry tomatoes split and really again, trying to eat this bent over a table because a hostess did not want to sit me in a table for two was just too much for me. My plan had been to try a few of the other items on the menu, sides, desserts, whatever looked good, but after the salad and pasta, I am glad I decided not to try anything further and not enjoy it. I got my check, paid my bill and left my tip. Not good, not even close. I was hoping for so much more. I would stop for a drink at the bar lounge area, if I was with someone. But to go in and repeat my Friday evening dining experience, not to happen again, no I would not refer anyone here for a dinner based on this review, especially if they were a single traveling alone and looking for a great Italian dinner and comfort. It was one of those dinners where as I got in the car I thought I could have taken that 50 bucks and made different sauces and pasta dishes for a week, bought some really fresh romaine, made some great croutons and garlicky lemony creamy dressing and enjoyed for a week. Out of five stars, I give it a definite two. Server was good, bartender was good, Hostesses obviously directed to not waste space with a single at a table for two. Kitchen needs some fine tuning. Possibilities, yes, but they are not quite there now. Maybe it will come, If I ever see that a new chef has been hired there will do it again, but for the next however long, a mojito will just have to do. Aloha!

Very nice seaside setting. Attentive service, food clearly cooked to order. Music was an added nicety. We even had a rainbow as part of the view ! Recommended.

Beautiful restaurant, very clean, great ambience and nice staff. But that's the three stars because the food was very average and very pricey. The kitchen was out of a number of ingredients that are staples in Italian cooking-ricotta cheese, clams and calamari... Our party of five had a variety of dishes, none of which rated "very good" but none of them were terrible either. Just OK

One things I can say about this place - the view of the harbor was quite incredible - we got lucky coz we were seated right by the window/door opening... I had the clam pasta and it was alright for me. Service is quite slow though - can be a little better.

I must say that I am surprised at some of the reviews here. I have eaten at this restaurant well over 10 times and am ALWAYS impressed. I used to work in the food and beverage industry at a luxury hotel and have eaten many fine meals here on Maui and Saltimbocca ranks up there with the best. First, it is not cheap. So, if you are looking for a cheap meal this is probably not your spot. However, if you are looking for a high-quality Italian dinner with excellent service and an amazing view and are willing to spend a little money to do it then this is your spot! I have tried just about everything on the menu and even most of their specials (we seriously try to pick something different on the menu every time we go so between my girlfriend and I we have almost tried them all) and all of the food is delicious. The manager (Tom Bacon I believe his name is) is always there and greets us every time. He also gave us some useful information about where they source their products from, how much of their ingredients are organic, and how they prepare all of their pastas and breads fresh in-house daily. If I remember correctly, over 80% of their ingredients are locally sourced and organic - pretty awesome. My favorite dishes here are the Masha's Pasta, Pumpkin Ravioli, and the Veal Carpaccio. The bartenders are very nice and we usually just sit at the bar because we enjoy chatting with them. They have several different types of beers from around the world that are delicious but I will even admit that $15 for an 11 ounce beer is a little steep but hey if you want to try something different then go for it! My girlfriend loves their mixed cocktails and they have some very unique wines on their wine menu. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a nice evening out. It is very easy to access (tons of parking), has outstanding fresh Italian food, great service, and a view that is tough to beat. Enjoy!

Harbor views and sunset colors on Haleakala were stunning. Food, service, drinks.... Superb!!!!! Thank you for a delicious end of a perfect Maui day!!

We have eaten here thrice now, Two lunches, and one dinner with friends. First, the menu. It is obvious that the freshness and local plate is important here. We were impressed with the gluten free and vegetarian menus as well! There are few restaurants on Maui that truly cater to good healthy food where this much care is taken for taste as well. We like to order an appetizer, soup, salad and entree to share. We did so on our first visit, and were so very happy with the mista salad, minestrone bisque, these amazing little hand-pie appetizers(can't remember what they called them), and the grilled chicken sandwich. For dinner our friend ordered a vegetarian and gluten free cauliflower risotto that truly rocked! The panna cotta...oh my. So many try, and it is such a simple dish to make, but so easy to mess up. They make it perfectly! Service was incredible. They have a great staff here, but I must say some people need just a touch more training. I have a thing about wait staff interrupting a conversation. Some of the staff needs to stop doing this. However, we are very impressed with the level of knowledge and attentiveness. We do a lot of dining out, and we feel this is priced very well. The portions are appropriate, and we left feeling comfortably satiated.

My husband and I ate here for the first time last night. I wish we had come here sooner! The restaurant was beautifully decorated and the view of Maalea Harbor was breathtaking. The prices were on the high side but the food quality and portion sizes seemed reasonably matched. They also have special discounts, so ask and you shall receive! The have a great selection of food and also menus for vegetarians and Gluten-Free meals. They make their breads and pastas homemade daily and their cocktails were sooooo good! Not only was the food amazing but the service was excellent. Our waitress was very friendly, attentive and knowledgable about the menu and drinks. The bussers were very polite and I always had a full glass of water. The owners had also come by to introduce themselves and made sure we were enjoying ourselves. Everyone seemed very genuine and made our dining experience that much more pleasant. If I had one thing to say it would be that there are mosquitoes, but the waitress offered us organic bug spray that was very light and got those pesky things away. I think citronella candles would be a great addition to the restaurant ;) I would highly recommend Saltimbocca to anyone who wants a special experience with amazing food.

Really wanted this place to be great. View is outstanding, service rad. Ordered risotto. Bland, no flavor, very watery. Ordered egg plant Parm, treated as if it was made yesterday and warned up. Egg plant was soggy, sauce tasted canned. Bummed. Drinks were nice, view stunning. May go back. Live just down the road, so really hoping.....

We stopped by for happy hour and it was a great experience. Their deals for pupus and drinks are great and the large windows made for a cool and relaxing environment to take in the breeze of the harbor while enjoying some of the tasty dishes. The owner stopped by our table and chatted with us about the origin of the ingredients in our Toscanaccia Bruschetta and tasty Strawberry Salad with Kula Greens. Looking forward to coming by for dinner some time.

It was ok - just ok - the hostess was hot, the pasta made fresh, but there was definitely a presumption that their food was better than it really is ( via the prices on the menu, and the service people's recommendations) come here if you want some decent Italian food on maui , but not if you want an incredible meal

  • Lauren K.

For our last dinner on maui we gave this place a try, it seemed quiet and menu looked decent. Staff was very friendly and warm. Sat on the nice patio. Ordered a great glass of wine, and the two of us shared 3 courses. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't worth going back. Our first course of soup took a very long time, but we didn't mind since we were relaxing and chatting. The soup was just meh.... The bruschetta was literally chopped tomato on toast, double meh. Our maui was much better, but super salty. I think this place could easily be great if the food was special, because the staff and ambiance were good. Oh well!

Unfortunately we will never go back. Fish dish had no taste and we sent it back. We replaced with soup that had no taste and over salted sprouts. The specialty cocktails were $10 per sip. The service was good and owner nicely apologized for the food quality.

Hands-down best Italian food on Maui. We stopped in last week on our second night in town. It has a lovely atmosphere, incredible view, GREAT knowledgable staff and we just felt *welcome*! My hubby and I had the too-die-for scallops & prawns with a cheese sauce that I have literally been DREAMING about, then the beautifully crisp and light calimari and into an absolutely divine pumpkin & walnut ravioli and one of their signature dishes 'Masha's pasta. The wine pairings were dead on and the dessert to follow ended what was simply the best dining experience we have had on our 10th trip to Maui. We are going back this weekend, and will make it a point to be regulars! Its a must.

Dined at restaurant last night party of four. Service was terrible even though there seemed to be plenty of staff. Took too long for order to be taken, drinks to arrive and then an inordinate amount of time for dinner to be served. Eggplant overcooked and lukewarm. Veal dish tough as leather and served with diced potatoes which we found odd. Caesar salad lettuce cut into too large of pieces, dressing lightly drizzled over the top and too little to determine taste. Had to ask three times for bread. Waitress did not appear professionally trained. Chairs at tables in too close of proximity to next table.

We booked a cruise at Maaleala Harbor, wanted to have dinner before the cruise at the Waterfront Restaurant, although realized the restaurant is now an Italian restaurant. Unfortunately our overall experience was very disappointed. Average menu & food, not very friendly staff, poor service. My pasta arrived half cold. No offer of fresh black pepper or cheese for the salad/pasta. We have to ask and wait for the pepper & Parmesan cheese, my pasta got even colder.... A female restaurant manager dressed inappropriately casual, I thought this is supposed to be a upscale restaurant that charges $26 for a plate of Pasta! No toilet seat cover and hand soap in the lady's restroom. The old Waterfront restaurant's service and food were impeccable. I am sadden that this beautiful location is now occupied by an expensive but average restaurant. We will not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Casanova in Kahalui and Makawao serve better Italian food with excellent service!

Mar 2014, we decided to try this place based on a magazine picture, Maui has dining guides. The presentation of the lamb and pasta dish in the picture gave us the impression that this was a 5 star Italian restaurant and we were really looking forward to great Italian food. Ambiance and service was excellent, but most restaurants in Maui have great views of the ocean. The only reason this place even gets 3 stars instead of 1 is because the service was impeccable. We were promptly greeted and seated, great ocean view from our table. It didn't register at the time how empty the restaurant was for it being peak dining hours until later. Bread was good but our iced teas had a bizzare taste to them. (We don't drink alcohol) We have our waitress bring us water. She explained that they put olive juice in their iced teas, yuk. Now we're worried. We also hear the couple next to us complain about the calamari being too salty, whew we dodged that bullet because we were considering getting that as an appetizer too. The owner/manager handled them with utmost concern. Our Ceasar salads are good. Our entrées are brought to us as soon as our salad plates are taken away, good. Now we ordered what was shown on the magazine picture, but unfortunately it's not like the ad at all. My ossobuco was dry, the risotto tasted like store bought rice from a box but tasteless, and it wasn't presented at all like the ad. It was obviously dry and tasteless looking but they brought it to me this way anyway. Hubby's seafood fettuccine had a good flavor to it but please chefs, drain the pasta completely, it's so annoying when every bite of pasta ends up splattering all over your clothes and table. Major pet peeve of ours. So he's too grumpy to enjoy the pasta because he's wearing more of it then tasting it. Bottom line, great attentive service, bad, dry ossobuco and risotto and good, not great seafood fettuccine, which you'll wear because they didn't drain the pasta properly, and all this for over $100 for 2. Also keep in mind we don't drink alcohol, and had water because their iced teas tasted skanky. Olive juice in iced teas, yuk. We were so disappointed to pay so much for ok and not ok food! I feel bad for them because the owner and the entire staff were soooo great at their jobs! They were warm, attentive, friendly people who really provided excellent service! They knew exactly when to bring your items, when to take it away, made sure you had everything you needed without being an interruption. Invisible caterers, our kind of service. They made sure we weren't juggling with too many plates on the table and that the food didn't come at us all at once. The people and their service was so good that we actually considered trying again, but for over $100 Outback steakhouse is a better value, their lamb is juicy.

Came in for dinner with a my kids tonight and was pleased. The place has a great menu and wine selection, the kids and I were all happy with our meals. I order the Ossobucco, the lamb was delicious. Kids items were limited so they shared a pasta, also tasty. We had the tirimusu for desert and it was a hit. We enjoyed our server, Abby, who was very accomadating and friendly with my children. Liked that the place is elegant with a view but not stuffy and happy to support a local family, met the owner, also a very genuine. Hope this place does well!

The perfect night out, delicious Italian food with an amazing view and ambience. There were so many good choices, my friend and I couldn't decide what to get, so we ordered two main dishes to share. The pumpkin ravioli and masha pasta. Masha pasta was delicious, with asparagus and mushrooms and some kind of seafood,( i think prawns?) that I let my friend have (because i don't eat seafood) The pumpkin ravioli was on the sweet side, which I liked but my friend didn't care for much so that's why I'm mentioning it. We also got the risotto which is the best I've ever had. Also the most delicious Bruschetta EVER. If you can't decide which appetizer to get, those are guaranteed to please. We left stuffed and happy. Definitely will be back soon!!

decided to try this new Italian restaurant with a view in Maalaea Harbor. Our neighbors had already been for dinner (and loved it), so we came with the same neighbors for lunch. Enthusiastic waiter, good food... I ordered the Insalata Mista and the Saltimbocca Sandwich. Once the salad came, I realized I'd ordered way too much. The salad would have been enough with the yummy bread. The salad was excellent - loved the flavor explosion in my mouth, large portion, great dressing... excellent. The Saltimbocca sandwich was very good too, the roast potatoes it was served were wonderful. I wish this new restaurant best of luck. We'll be back.

I wasn't left with a great impression of this place. The food was decent - they say the pasta is house made - but it didn't blow my socks off. My experience was more marred by the fact that the waiter spilled a dish olive oil and balsamic vinegar on my khaki shorts when placing it on the table. I know accidents happen, and the guy was apologetic enough, but I was pretty shocked they didn't comp me ANYTHING to atone for my ruined shorts. Pretty poor customer service if you as me. You're better sticking w local seafood places.

Wonderful new addition to the Maui Scene. Excellent higher end Italian eatery with an Italian born and trained chef and friendly staff. . Maalaea Harbor front views. Wonderful pastas. Try the pumpkin ravioli, the and the great desserts. Try this for a special night out.

Food is so fresh! The bread is hand made - so good so soft, the pasta is hand made, the portion size is generous. Definitely worth it! On top of how great the food is - the service is friendly and efficient. For a new restaurant, the service and food is flawless. It's like they've been in business forever. If you want good Italian then this is your place. Oh, and I can't forget to mention that seeing the ocean while I ate was another perk.

My husband I love to go out and eat and saw an add in a magazine for Saltimbocca. We had never heard of this place since they are still somewhat new and we were looking to try some good Italian food for a change so we decided to give them a try about a month ago. We were very impressed, the food was awesome, and we literally couldn't wait to come back again! We dined here for a second time with some friends two nights ago and we were able to share our dishes and try even more from the menu and everything we tried was amazing! I love how they use fresh local ingredients and the quality shows! Prices are like most nice restaurants here on Maui and we don't mind when price matches the quality of the food and service. Our waiter was friendly, made us feel comfortable even though we did come in a little later (8:30) and he was helpful with his suggestions from the menu. There were 5 of us and the appetizers then entrees came out pretty quickly and all at one time. We loved the Insalata Mista, Eggplant Parmigiana, Pumpkin Ravioli, Masha's Pasta, Ossobuco, Veal Picatta, and for dessert the Pot de Crème. I love how everything just tastes so fresh and flavorful! I'm a huge chocolate lover and the dessert was pure heaven for me! Being that it is a fairly new restaurant, we really hope to spread the word so more people can enjoy Saltimbocca because we'd love to see them succeed. They have a nice oceanfront view of the harbor and the restaurant is clean and modern looking with a nice ambience and of course delicious food! We can't wait to come back again!

I don't think I've ever be treated better at a restaurant! I came here for a birthday party and had an amazing dinner! Masha's Pasta was wonderful, and the panna cotta is some of the best I've ever had. The risotto was a little undercooked, but otherwise everything was great! Daniel the server was very friendly and welcoming.

My friend and I went in for a drink before going on the whale watching cruise. She had tokens from a previous visit for a free drink. The bartender was new and said he didn't know about them, but accepted them in good faith. We got our drinks and them a woman comes out (presumably the manager or owner) and doesn't introduce herself. The first words out of her mouth were "what are these?" My friend explained that she was given the token by the bartender on her last visit late last year. Come to find out, the old place was no longer in business and this place was new (the place looks exactly the same on the inside as the old place). She brought the happy hour menu over to show us. It began at 2:30, and it was currently 2:20. She just said, "oh, ok" when we pointed out that it was only 2:20. The best business practice would have been to say, "so sorry about the tokens, but hey, enjoy happy hour prices as a thank you for trying us out". Nope. Not a word. My friend's drink (limoncello) was great. My strawberry something was very tart. The bruschetta was very good, but overpriced at $7 for only 2 large pieces. The total bill was over $31 for 2 drinks and bruschetta. We won't be back again, needless to say.

Service is lacking. Quite obvious they still have a bit of training to do. Carpaccio was covered in "aioli" and lacked any seasoning. We had the pumpkin walnut ravioli (think pumpkin pie filling extra sweet and stuffed into overcooked pasta.) Meanwhile, the Masha pasta was nice, but also needed seasoning. Think Bistro Casanova in Kahului is a much better bang for your buck.

Went at 6:00 with 2 other couples. Seated promptly. Greeted by Joe and gave drink requests and asked for separate billing for evening. OK with not a sign of displeasure. Specials described and Joe left for wine. The noise level allowed for normal talk even though most tables were filled. Ambience very good with view of harbor. Dinner was ordered. A bread basket was served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Then the wait started. Joe handled the delay with aplomb and the mgr. stopped by to apologized. At 7:30 our food was served. It was universally very good from Osso bucco, pork chop to the fish special and my wife's seafood pasta . I did not want a big meal so had ordered bean soup, mixed green salad and best of all the tastiest Brussel sprouts ever. I had suggested to Joe that a comp. dessert to share would be appreciated and he readily agreed. To our pleasant surprise he and the mgr. brought 4 desserts to sample. This was over the top and a terrific way to end our meal. All agreed that the Saltimboca would be one of our go to places.

Mmmm.. not bad. Small portions though! Pasta's should at least come with bread or salad. I wasn't full enough.. but I love the creamy Carbonara!

This place has live music Sunday's and Thursdays. The server was nice and friendly. The owner came to meet us at the table which was a nice touch. Great ocean views and ambiance.

One things I can say about this place - the view of the harbor was quite incredible - we got lucky coz we were seated right by the window/door opening... I had the clam pasta and it was alright for me. Service is quite slow though - can be a little better.

    (2)

Oh well!

Ellen

Try it!

Aloha!

Just OK

Enjoy!

We did a snorkeling afternoon and wanted a drink and maybe dinner. We had seen Sal-Tim-Bocca yesterday so we tried it tonight. Everything was delicious!!! And Zac was wonderful!!

Incredibly mediocre - quality location, quality ingredients, pretty good service, but poor execution of menu items that should otherwise be very simple to do well

Second time here and the food and service is excellent! Try the scallops and prawns then go for the Mashas pasta.

Simply amazing!! The food was prepared in true Italian form... The owners are engaged and ensure that everyone is met with a smile . Every bite reminded me of home!!! Bravo!!!

My wife and I ate here the other night. A total disappointment though. She ordered the gnocchi - it was soggy and over cooked. Service was totally sub par, we waited quite a long time for our way overpriced bottle of wine. sorry, but i will NEVER go back here.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
