I must admit I was a bit hesitant to dine here with all the iffy reviews. However, I'm glad we dined here. We ordered the prawn, the pork chop and the burger. OMG all 3 was cooked to perfection. The pork chip was moist and it just melts in your mouth. The burger was tender and the prawn was flavorful. I'm a a major foody and this definitely exceed my expectation.

It was our first night at the grand Wailea and we did not want to drive anywhere. Very casual atmosphere and open air dining. We made a reservation and came early. We were seated right away. I ordered a guava jalapeño margarita and my husband got a Gin and tonic. He decided to upgrade his gin to Tank10 but did not realize until we got the bill that it was a $19 G&T. My husband had the Kurobuta pork which was grilled over creamy polenta and garlic broccolini with a mushroom bacon Demi glaze. That was well prepared and very tasty. I had the catch of the day of mahi mahi over sweet potato mash, garlic broccolini with a mango citrus sauce and basil oil. The fish was good but I was not liking the sweet potato mash with it. I kept stealing the polenta from my husband. Overall a good meal. Service was very good too. Add photo

The negative reviews here are no where close to what we experienced. The fish n chips that I got with Maui onion rings were great and tasty. It was made with Mahi-Mahi...not the cheap stuff Tilapia all other places use. My wife had the tuna poke wrap. What can I say? Wow! That was great, yummy and unique. That was the first time I had poke in a wrap. We then had the banana split boat and some brownie dessert dish which we shared with my best friend and his wife. Couple this with great service and a great view of the resort and ocean; I rate this a solid 5 stars.

Went to the Grand Wailea spa and decided to break my "no restaurants connected to hotels rule." The Bistro Molokini reaffirmed that rule. Very average hotel food for tourists. Reuben 5/10 Bleu cheese burger 6/10 Fish tacos 6/10 Not recommended and expensive for what you get. You are better served by going off hotel grounds.

service was fast because we made an appointment and not much people was there. started to get busy when my fiance and I finished eating. Sunset view is great with clear skies and if you're by the window. fish had no taste unless mixed sauce. water wasnt refilled. desert, the ice cream brownie sundae was too hard. thats about it

Fantastic fish tacos!!! Its an outside atmosphere next to the adult and family pools. The bar is very nice and the open air and the fact its elevated makes for a good place to grab lunch or even dinner in the evening. I have only eaten lunch there so Im not sure what its like in the evening.

Had the gluten free pizza for $18. I thought it was a practical joke when I saw how small it was. Sauce and grilled chicken were flavorless. This is not the big issue. The real issue is that the service (pool side) is terribly slow. 10 min to get a $15 drive (a little less when you go to the bar yourself), food felt like it took 30min.

Restaurant located at the spectacular Grand Wailea Waldorf Astoria. If only the restaurant could live up to this expectation. With outrageous prices ($17 for side of Onion rings) and sub-par food, I would stay away. I don't mind paying high resort prices but I do expect high quality food. The so called smoked oven roasted chicken and Baby Back ribs tasted like they were boiled. Very disappointing. Not the quality I would expect from a Waldorf property. Stroll over to the shops at Wailea for a great meal.

From what I can see Bistro Molokini gets some not so great reviews, which I'm not sure why. Maybe because it is on the pricier side. That being said my macadamia crusted fish was pretty damn good! I thought this place was beautiful, over looking the ocean, so you can sit and sip your wine while you watch the sunset. We came here on Valentine's Day and I was happy to see that we did not have to order from a set menu. Our wine was delightful, and because Hawaii is quite warm always our glasses were brought to us chilled which I appreciated. Our server was great and so was the food. The dessert menu was lacking a little but we were so stuffed by that point that it didn't really matter.

For a hotel restaurant, Bistro Molokini was a lot better than expected. We went the first night and it was great for jet-lagged adults and kids :) Kids menu is good. I had the steak and seared ahi, both very solid. Service was good, and drinks were great. Again, nothing super special but very convenient and better than average hotel food!

All I will say is try to appetizer that has the watermelon and black rock salt with mint leaves garnishing it. Incredible flavor that just jumps in your mouth

Ate there twice. Had fish one day and ahi the other and both were OK. Good outdoor seating for kids by the pool

awesome view, but way way way way way overpriced. $26 bucks for a burger? Ask for med and it comes out black. Found a hair in our pasta, and our sever seemed annoyed with us when we told her. Go to monkeypod for good food at a decent price or any of the four seasons restaurants for good view and delicious (expensive) food.

Worst dining experience ever. The food quality is mediocre and extremely expensive. I ordered a grilled mahi mahi and it was unedible. It looked like a small piece of chicken over boiled broccoli with tomato sauce on the side. The texture was like cardboard and the flavor was bland. The cost of the dish was $30. My gf ordered the Hawaiian rib eye. The steak was tough and flavorless. The price of this dish was $42. It came with a salad that was strangely very bitter. Practically unedible. I mean, how can you mess up a salad?!. I also ordered a glass of pineapple juice that wasnt fresh and it cost $4.50. I was so mad at the end of the dinner. I didnt even want to pay for my meal

Had a great experience thanks to the bartender Lloyd. He is such a down to earth guy he made my wife and I have such a good time. He makes the best Mai tais in the resort and maybe the island. He actually almost made me forget about the outrageous resort prices. Glad the wailea takes pride on hiring good staff like this keep it up. We will be back to get some drinks from Lloyd

Loved the service here! One of the waitresses was fantastic. I do not remember her name...too many cosmo's on the rocks at the pool! Get the hot dog. It is enourmous and delicious. It is expensive but convienent. Try it at least once while you are at the Grand Wailea.

Beautiful view, wonderful service and the food was outstanding....but not cheap! We had a plate of onion rings....very tasty. I had chicken lettuce wraps which will be long remembered. My husband had the lobster roll sliders. On mini croissants...yum! A coke, a house cocktail and a tip for about an even $100. Can't believe it, but we'll be back again for another lunch here before we head homr

There is some room for improvement here. I am a diamond HHonors member and travel the world on business. I have the opportunity to stay and eat at many places. The best thing I can say about this as a guest on the beautiful property is that it is in a beautiful setting, is convenient and in comparison to the other dining options on property, it is the least expensive. That being said, it is still $20-40 entrees and for that, they need to step it up. This is a lump of coal in an otherwise polished diamond property that does not meet the standards of the Waldorf Astoria brand in terms of front of house service and food quality. Don't get me wrong, it was ok but just not up to par for the prices and what you come to expect in comparison to the rest of the resort. The front of house service seemed harried and unfinished which was surprising. The staff did not seem to possess a "can do" attitude for the guests. They were polite but perfunctory and I think that this could really be fixed with some brand training by the property. The menu has no focus (there is an ahi poke' stack, a house special of spaghetti and meatballs, an Alan Wong inspired clam bake in a bag with bok choy, a $25 hamburger, and a Margherita pizza as examples) and in my opinion, it would really benefit from being tightened up. All the items sounded great on the menu but I think the kitchen suffers from trying to offer something for everyone and could really stand to concentrate more on a single style or genre of food. Unless they are going to commit different parts of the kitchen to cuisine from different areas of the globe, this felt like they were trying too hard to do too much and none of it was really all that great. Sadly, the spaghetti and the pizza were some of the better items. The $31 Alan Wong "Bag-Dish" that I opted for was disappointing. It is described as a celebrity chef inspired/influenced dish and sounded much like a clam bake with local ingredients prepared "en papillote". It arrived "en cellophane" cooking bag and the ingredients seemed very ordinary and it was heavily salted. I seriously think I could have done a better job with it by buying a Reynolds Wrap cooking bag and throwing in a bunch of stuff, some wine and stock and some spice and seasoning. It was not worthy of being touted as a celebrity chef influenced dish (meaning if I was the celebrity chef, I would be horrified to have my name attached to it). Having said all of this, the food was not terrible and the service was not rude. I just think that for a 5 diamond resort, it is not up to where it should be. With proper kitchen focus and staff training, this could really be a great spot. I hope the management sees this review and takes it to heart. I will likely eat here again in a year or so and hopefully see some improvement.

I was very happy with my choice to eat here both for lunch and dinner. For lunch I sat at the bar and had the Maui Mac sushi roll which I thought was very good but I'm not a sushi conosseur. Dinner was the pork special and it was excellent. Prepared with locally farmed pork. My waiter, James was excellent and the other staff was very attentive. The only improvement could make would be more menu choices. I came in for fish but was happy with the pork. Yes, the food is expensive but that is the case throughout this hotel. I know what I'm getting in to when I come here. For restaurants on the property, this is the best value, food and service by far.

I stayed at the Grand Wailea for my Honeymoon. I give Bistro Molokini 4 stars not because it is the most gourmet food ever but they allowed me to modify a dish to my vegetarian likings and it tasted fantastic. They also do not chill their red wine unless the rest of the island which is a huge plus if you know how red wine should be served. My husband and I had dined there our 2nd night of our honeymoon. First time we had dinner: I got the french onion soup and the pizza. Word of warning- the pizza is huge and very doughy. There is no possible way one person can eat this pizza alone. My husband got the UpCountry Mixed Greens and the Hawaiian Ahi Sashimi both which he enjoyed. That was the first time we dined there for dinner. We had a house california red and we were pleasantly surprised that the red wine was room temperature. Everywhere else we went on the island they managed to ruin the red wine by chilling it even if you purchased by the bottle which is a same as red wine is not meant to be served that way. The second time we had lunch. I felt like the lunch was better value for the price and the food was better. My husband got the Fish 'n Chips and I modified the Island Fish Tacos to be Vegetarian tacos with grilled vegetables minus the fish (which makes it not vegetarian). The tacos were great they had black bean slaw, tropical fruit salsa and spiced sour cream, blue corn chips and guacamole. It also came with a side and I got onion rings. Once again the food was too much to eat but it tasted fantastic and I was so happy that they were able to modify this dish to my vegetarian requirements. I really dislike portobello burgers at restaurants probably because restaurants over-do them as their dish of choice for vegetarians. So to other vegetarians- I recommend asking them to make the same dish for you as well minus the fish. Its not very fancy if you are looking for a honeymoon romance restaurant but it's nice if you want to be more causal one night.

I'm giving it 5 stars based on my expectation after reading a lot of reviews. We stayed at the Grand Wailea and ate here 4 times for dinner. Each time the service was great, the view awesome and the food is good. Yes, it is overpriced. But if you stay at any resort in Hawaii you know you are paying extra for eating at the resort. We are a family of 4 with 2 children (ages 8 & 6) and this place met our needs after a fun day at the pool & beach. Location is great if you stay at pool/beach all day.

Do not go to dinner at this location. Lunch is so much better. Service was terrible, lobster bisque was not edible. Returned the lobster bisque and the waitress never asked what else I wanted to eat. Ribs where not good wife and brother in law did not finish. Drinks went dry and no one asked for a refill. Last dinner at this hotel was just terrible.

For a Grand Wailea restaurant...not so grand! The pool side restaurant at the Westin Ka'anapali Villas North is a million times better than this joint! My husband and I went here after a day at the Spa Grande and both had the Kobe Beef Burgers and were both very disappointed. Bun was dry, burger was dripping grease and was not cooked to our specifications. Stay away and go try some of the little mom and pop places in Kihei instead!

  • Jeff K.

The most average place around. It's probably the best "value" in the resort (note the quotes, of course NOTHING is actually a good value in the resort itself) because you can feed two people for less than $50 at lunch. Our food was fine. Our drinks were fine. The service was friendly and we had none of the wait issues that some others have complained about. There isn't much more to say, though, hence the three stars. Average.

The place has a nice open feel, comfortable ocean breeze and the service is awesome here. My husband had some sushi platters like the LC roll and Tokatsushi and I went for the Kobe burger with garden salad. Presentation of the food is flattering to look at and the taste was nothing to rave about, but it was still flavorful and fresh. So overall, the food was yummy and the cost of our meal was around $50 without the drinks. So I guess it can be a bit pricey, but when you're on vacation you can splurge a little.

  • Corey B.

Over priced but that is to be expected. We ordered the nachos which was around $20+. What they came out with was more of a slap in the face. The nachos were mediocre store bought chips with canned nacho cheese, canned black beans, canned salsa, and canned pickled jalepenos. I have had better nachos at a kids little league game. The only plus side was they made decent $25 drinks and the staff is nice.

A nice restaurant with excellent ambiance. Ask for a table with a view of the ocean. Portions are sizable and filling, with the bread served before making for a nice start. I would recommend the Fried Calamari to start of your meal. We ended the meal with delectable brownie ice cream, my personal favorite dessert so far in Maui.

Awful food , awful service, very pricey, limited menu - avoid this place unless you are desperate - 1 star rating based on hotel high end prices and mcdonalds quality service - if food was half the price I'd give it a 2 star rating but it was really really expensive for below average food quality.

Excellent view, excellent service, good food, but very over priced.. One Pina colada is 15, mai tai 15, hamburger 25, fish and chips 26... It is a heavenly setting but you pay for this heaven.. Back only for a special occasion, but not a every night place... The setting is over the top, but so are the prices...

Spent Conference Championship (NFL) day there, and had dinner the next night. Service is excellent, bartenders excellent. Management is bad and dinner was terrible. Lunch menu was actually what looked good and made me recommend dinner to my family. Big mistake. Go for lunch will get maybe 3 star experience, avoid dinner, that was 1 star. Regarding the football game experience...They would not put the sound on for the game, though the entire bar and all surrounding tables were craning to see the game (and read the closed captioning, since we couldn't hear). Managers excuse? Didn't want to ruin experience for other diners. ALL other people there were watching the game, and since they opened at 10 and didn't even start serving food until 11, who exactly would we be bothering even for that hour? Epic fail for manager, and hurts the tips for servers as customers were pretty much all unhappy about this. I should mention that there is no other place to really watch the game in the entire hotel, save your room, and that isn't really all that much fun! As to dinner. Food was pretty much awful. We got the jerk chicken, it was some sort of gray mess, and tasted, just wrong. My daughter got plain pasta with butter, and side of tomato sauce. She got luke warm to cold pasta with no butter sauce, and a side of salsa! THey replaced the jerk chicken for us with a side salad and some onion rings, and also brought my daughter some hot paste and actual tomato sauce. However, again no butter on the pasta. My wife got a blackened chicken Alfredo pasta bowl, but the chicken was bland, certainly not blackened at all. Was more like Caesar Salad chicken. So not what she wanted. The onion rings were good not great, fries were OK. This would all earn about 3 stars normally, but, for the ridiculous price, it is just not worth it. There is a mall literally 5 minutes walk with much better food choices, and about a mile up the road even better choices than that. The whole thing really detracts from what should be a great experience at what is purported to be an upscale hotel. The servers were all excellent, I want to reiterate that. I saw some other comments about bad service, I didn't experience that, but I also think that management of at least this restaurant is bad, I don't blame the servers for that.

overpriced for mediocre food. I had the lettuce wraps which was basically ground pork with pretty bland seasonings. I ordered a $9 milkshake for the kids to split. The kids fought over the oreo cookie that came with the shake and I asked the waiter for another oreo cookie...he responded "I will give you an oreo cookie this time, but next time, you will have to order another milkshake." soooo disappointed, we had just arrived at the hotel, our room wasn't ready, everyone is hungry and this was the most convenient place to eat. Food was way overpriced and his response to my request for just ONE oreo cookie was totally unnecessary.

It's near a pool, scratch that, it is near a water park. The Grand Wailea is a busy place with a lot going on and just shy of too many people for the chairs they have out to sit in. With all of this said the Bistro Molokini seems to usually have tables available for those who do not want poolside service and the food is not bad either. The typical poolside fool kept everyone happy including myself. If you are looking for a better meal than what this menu has to offer look further away from the pool. Also, we found service to be good as well.

I love staying at the Grand Wailea Resort whenever I am on Maui, and the Bistro Molokini is my stomping grounds around here. It's an expensive place, I mean what do you expect!? You are at a great hotel, expect it. The photo that I added to this place is actually the seared ahi wrap, which is fabulous, and my WHOLE family loves it. It's pretty sad that we actually order it every single time we dine here. Another great dish that I like here at Bistro Molokini is the nachos. Yeah, I know, nachos, really? I get that you think it is too cliche of a meal to get. But, this dish is grand (just like the hotel). The nachos consist of: Blue and yellow corn tortilla, black beans, black olives, cheddar and jalapeno jack, topped with sour cream and cilantro tomato salsa. Choice of kalua pig or ground cashew chicken. Nachos available meatless; Also, this dish is pretty large, so for a family of five, it was perfection. You know those scrumptious Maui onions? Aren't they awesome? Well, I know I sure think so - try the onion rings, it is worth your money. You know what other dishes here that I love? Here goes: the Margherita pizza, the A'A Rock N Roll (there goes my love for ahi again!), the Surf n Turf burger (the beef is cooked well, and it tastes great), the calamari, and the crab cakes. Man! I am hungry just thinking about it all! These foods I am listing are great for kids as well, which is why I have listed them in the first place. I know that you are probably at the hotel with your picky-eater of a son/daughter... So why not choose dishes that they recognize, and also will enjoy? You're staying in a fabulous hotel, why not eat it's fabulous food as well? ...GO FOR IT!

We came here for lunch twice to escape the heat of the ocean/pool, and the seared ahi tuna poke wrap and fish tacos were both excellent. They open the windows so you get a good breeze, and it's located right over the pool deck, so you get a nice view as well. Definitely on the pricey side, but I've had much worse resort food in other places at that price.

I expect to pay high prices at a resort. In return I expect to find decent food. Unfortunately the food was horrible and the service was no better. It's a shame that, unlike the majority of upper end resorts I have stayed in, the "pool side" and most convenient restaurant was so bad. We will leave the resort for lunch from here on out. Don't waste your money. The convenience is not worth it.

Like all of the food at the Grand Wailea, the Bistro's food is awful. I had an ahi burger, and the ahi was completely overcooked and dry. My mom complained her chicken burger was the same way - overcooked and way too dry. It took about 40 minutes to get the food and the restaurant was empty! It was totally outrageous! And because the food was so badly overcooked, I think I see why. If you're staying at the GW, just know you're not going to have a good meal on site, especially if you choose to eat here.

Despite the mediocre reviews, my lunch here was delish! Ordered the Calamari for our appetizer which was ok, but my seared Ahi Tuna wrap was surprisingly delicious. Whats even better was that it even had BACON in it! A really great place for lunch outside before our Spa treatments. The Grand Wailea is so beautiful with amazing views and I honestly didn't want to leave. Our server was very attentive and the service here was great. Can't wait to come back :)

Arrived in Maui for our stay at Grand Wailea. Because it was too early for dinner, we ended up at this place. Went to use the restroom before ordering food. Not well kept at all and a terrible first impression given the fact that we had just arrived at the hotel. The shrimp appetizer was good, but the sausage flatbread was a terrible combo of flavors. The drinks were just okay. Their happy hour (and all the happy hours at this hotel) are pathetic. $10 for a happy hour drink from 3-4 pm and 8-9pm. And each day is a new drink (i.e., only one drink gets the happy hour special). One of the days, the drink is "draft beer." In other words, the happy hour special is a $10 draft beer. Are you effing kidding me? Don't bother with the happy hour Grand Wailea. You just look worse by advertising the worst "deal" with the worst hours.

Tried the onion rings, fish tacos, Kobe burger, breana brûlée Onion rings were good. Burger was overcooked but flavorful. Everything else just ok. The breana brûlée was like a tiramisu brûlée, which sounds AWESOME, but it's not =( Super slow service

The food, service and setting probably merit at least a 3, but I'm going with 2 just because it's such a rip-off. Go with the Volcano Bar if you need to eat at the Grand Wailea.

Only reason we came here..FREE from our massage @ the Grand Spa. This place was recommended by the spa concierge and if this was the best choice of the three, I'm afraid to even step foot in the other establishments. Menu consisted of typical bistro faire with exorbitant prices. My wife got the salmon sandwich and I got the fish and chips. Both were just "meh" and didnt have much flavor. My fish and chips only had 3 pathetic small fillets then I finished with 6 bites. Salad had no dressing which I had to ask for and the salmon burger also lacked seasoning. Service was ok and the ambience was decent with a view of the ocean. But if I had to pay for this myself it definitely would of been the worst 50$ I've ever spent.

Super overpriced (which is expected at Grand Wailea) and very mediocre food (which is neither expected nor acceptable). Got the shrimp, they were ok, and a sausage flatbread pizza that was poor, which featured a mishmash of ingredients and muddled flavors. Not good.

Three weeks ago I found the most amazing spa package in an ad in the Hana Hou magazine that Hawaii Airlines distributes on their airplanes. The deal was for Spa Grande at the Grand Wailea Resort and Spa. It included several things but the part relating to this review was a $50 gift certicate to Bistro Molokini which we could enjoy after our message. I didn't know what to expect. In fact, I thought the lunch would be pretty bad if they were giving it away for free but color me surprised when we showed up at a restaurant overlooking the ocean. With open air windows, beautiful views and a nice breeze my lunch was already looking up. The place appeared to be expensive which wasn't a surprise considering we were in a fancy smancy resort. After reviewing all of our food options on the menu, it looked like we had enough money to order two entrees and one dessert. Most entrees were about $15-22 and deserts were $9-13. I ordered the fish tacos and my husband got the burger and fries. Presentation wise the food looked great. Quality wise the food was standard fair. Tasty but nothing extremely special. The other plates of food coming out of the kitchen looked good so for that I would come back (if I was staying in the Wailea area but I wouldn't make a special trip here). For dessert we ordered a banana split. First of all, the banana split completely stood out!! It arrived at our table in a cored out pineapple and it was huge! We got some friendly smiles from other diners. The bananas were dipped in chocolate surrounded by 3 big scoops of tasty ice cream. Covered in chocolate sauce and whip cream this dessert was a little piece of heaven right there in paradise. My husband and I had so much fun eating it. I think I will always remember the experience! When it comes to service, our waitress was nice but the service was so slow. I didn't get the feeling it was her fault but it seemed the food was coming out of the kitchen at a very slow pace. I witnessed other diners roll their eyes and I could relate. It was especially annoying since we were so very hungry. The dining room was a big area which was catering to the resort's lunch crowd so perhaps that contributed to the problem but it doesn't excuse the place for taking so very long with delivering food. We arrived at about 1:15pm and didn't leave until 3pm. We were often sitting around waiting for the next thing to happen which wasn't terribly bad because we were in Hawaii but we did notice the long periods in between the various courses. Unfortunately, we had dinner reservations at 5:30pm so we were a bit stuffed going into dinner. For me what made this place memorable was the dessert along with the great views and a fun atmosphere. The memory of the banana split will stay with me forever. But the entrees will become a distant memory that is why I am giving this place 3 stars.

Our third year staying here in Grand Wailea and despite my previous "2 star" experience, I had to give it another try. I really wanted to upgrade it to at least a three star, but no, it's still a 2. There is nothing we can do about the prices, but at the food can be improved a slight bit. Too bad it didn't. I ordered a maui onion soup and I've seen onion soup done better at lesser joints. Too much cheese, barely any soup, and way too salty. We also ordered fish & chips... chips tasted better than fish. I really wished Grand Wailea would offer more dining selections. We really have to trek a bit offsite to have anything decent! Sorry Bistro Molokini, you stay at "2 stars."

Staying in hotel for business and this was an easy place to just walk in and be seated without a reservation. I ordered the Margarita pizza, which was good but it had a coat of flour on the bottom of it. I've seen pizza made like this before and I'm just not a big fan. However, it was still tasty. I also ordered the frozen mango mojito, which was sooo refreshing and delicious. This place is casual and to the point, which is what I was looking for.

All the food at the Grad Wailea resort is great and Bistro Molokini is no exception. We really enjoyed it here. And you can't beat the scenery and surroundings. Service was first class! We had lunch here.

So this is actually one of the many reasons I fully regret my stay at GW. My fiancé and I went here ordered a pizza and 1 hour later when it did not show up he asked the waitress what the hold up was or if there was a problem. What did she reply "ya they're backed up and I can't do anything about it, I can only go ask them once what the hold up is after that they'll work even slower." (complete with eye rolling and gum smacking) what????? what happened to i'll go check on it? its been a god damn hour! its pizza, takes less time for the dough to ferment that for you idiots to figure out how to stick a topping on it and stick it in the oven. ridiculous

horrible service. less than average food. It took them 1 hour for my pizza to get ready and the second time 50 min for my fish taco to be served. the servers don't care to be there and it shows

We had lunch there on our last day before heading to the airport. Food was okay. Pricey because it is inside the Grand Wailea Resort. It was right next to the adult swimming pool overlooking the garden, the kids pool and water slide thingy. It has great ocean view in the distance. I ordered a French Onion soup along with my lunch. The cheese on the soup was too charred for me taste. (see uploaded picture) I have heard that Maui sweet onion is famous. Either the chef put too much salt in the soup or they imported onions from France, because I couldn't taste the sweetness from the soup.

Dude. This place was PRICEY. It was almost $100 for like, a $30 meal. It had better been awesome food and it was not. It was run-of-the mill. The presentation was nice and the service was good. But man, go to a local place and get the same crap.

The seared ahi wrap was delicious. Upgrade to the onion rings, amazing!

  • Olen R.

I'd like to give them 4.5 stars, but the only reason they don't get 5 stars is because of the high prices. The food was excellent as was the service, and the view wasn't bad either. Get the Sweet Kula Maui Onion Rings! They're $11 but worth it, for the best onion rings I've ever had (also the most expensive, by far). They're not on the dinner menu, but if you ask they might be able to make them. Our server (who was excellent BTW) said they prepare them every morning and once they run out that's it for the day. We split the Mahi Mahi entree (not on the regular menu) which was grilled and served on a bed of risotto, and it was delicious. It was $32, and a little small for splitting, but it let us save room for dessert. We had the Maui-Style Banana Split Boat. It was also excellent. See the pictures for proof :)

Huge resort: large restaurant above the pool. The food was very good and the service was just great. I had an seared ahi wrap that had a chipotle sauce and smoky bacon. I am unusual in that I don't like bacon in anything but as a side with an egg. This however, broke the mold. It gave my wrap an nice dimension and didn't overpower the fish. The prices were reasonable. I would have liked it to be a bit formal vs. kids in bathing suits. Loved that our server kept us well watered! It was a hot day and we needed it.

First visit was 5 stars great service during the slow time. The flatbread was perfect and came out just as requested. Our second visit 3 hours later was horrendous. The food took longer to arrive and when it did, one dish was wrong - it contained cheese. When it was remade the other item requested to be left off (jalapeños) was on and the flat bread was practically raw. We had to flag down the waitress to bring our bill. Not impressed. Not at all.

  • Nancy L.

I really wish we could give half stars cuz I ate here three times and two of the times the food was just okay and typical casual dining at a big hotel. Fish and Chips was so-so, Baby back ribs, so-so. The third time was something I can't find looking back on the menu but I remember it was something sitting on a bed of polenta?? I'm also keeping it at four stars cuz the bartenders were fun and friendly and totally made the 12 of us feel very welcomed.

Overall a solid 3. Everything we had was tasty and fresh with great service. The ahi poke nachos though are a 5 and a must have. They are the best thing I have had at the GW.

Service is good, but food is terrible. We have 7orders none of them is satisfied. It is in hotel, just next to the pool. Really not recommend this place.

There are pluses and minuses in staying at a resort. The pluses: a) it's a relaxed environment and everything you technically need is there. b) the hotel holds itself to a certain standard in upkeep and being family friendly c) the facilities are well kept and roomy The minus: a) all of this comes at a price! Arriving late Friday afternoon, we checked into our rooms and were too tired to venture out for food options. Convenience brought us to this open air restaurant/bar that faces the beach. Because the clinching game between my Golden State Warriors and Memphis Grizz just entered the fourth quarter, we decided to find two stools at the bar facing the TV. As we settled in, the bartender, a gentleman, handed us menus as we told him that we were here to dine. Not sure whether there were happy hour specials, but the bar was relatively crowded and most were there mainly to drink. Not sure whether it was a "laid back" thing or the bartender was wrapping up his shift, but things were sluggish. We ordered and had the following: Shared 1) Margherita pizza ( yelp.com/user_local_phot… ) - Decent size but nothing spectacular as the crust was on the thick side and none of the toppings particularly shined. Entree 2) Burger with bacon and swiss cheese ( yelp.com/user_local_phot… ) - Ordered medium, my burger was well done and again nothing really shined about it other than the size. The fries were hot and crispy and the highlight was their housemade pickles. My friend tried the Papaya salad, hold the goat cheese ( yelp.com/user_local_phot… ) and didn't really say much about it. The food was slow in coming as we probably waited about twenty minutes between ordering and getting our food even though the restaurant section was mostly empty. With a clear view of the food station, it looked like the kitchen was to blame. Also, there was not much "ohana" feeling that I've come to enjoy at most places on Oahu. Not sure if this is a resort issue or just a wrong time wrong place thing. Besides, being in a resort, the pricing reflects it as our meal with one non-alcoholic and one cocktail came to $68.00 before gratuity. The plus was that most bar side customers were rooting for the Warriors who clinched their place in the Western Conference Finals. If not for that and the view, this would probably be a two star experience.

I would expect the food to be good considering this is a nicer hotel. It was gross. The fish was tough and fishy. Our family of 6 all ordered different meals and everything was extremely dissapointing. Good spot for kids but other than that the food is horrible.

  • Nap D.

Went there twice for dinner during my stay. The first night I had the nachos and the ahi fish and chips. The second night was the more memorable of the two because I was sick after eating the red snapper fish and chips. Ugh... Inconsistent service, food quality and high price.

There are three dishes you that you must try... 1. The papaya goat cheese salad. 2. The pork chop - locally sourced, clean pork from what must have been a very happy pig. Incredibly prepared, with what else but more bacon in the sauce. 3. The sriracha prawns. Oops! Make that four dishes: 4. The brownie sundae. We just loved this fun, casual environment where you can catch sports on the numerous TV's while keeping a weathered eye on the horizon for any early arriving whales. Perfection! It's a little spendy, but you're at the Grand Wailea, baby! Expect top ingredients and great service! Our server, Jessica, was incredibly personable and made our meal even more special. Thanks, Jess!!

Every dining experience was incredible at the grand wailea, it's pretty amazing how just when you think you've had an amazing meal the next one is even better. I fell in love with the ahi wonton nachos ! Other food I tried were the fish tacos, mixed greens salad, California rolls mmmm tasty food ^.^ . Oh and the drink menu is extensive . Enjoy the view location is cool.

We visited Bistro Molokini on our first night in Wailea. We had just arrived at the resort feeling jet-lagged and looking for a good place to eat before crashing for a few hours. Bistro Molokini did the job. Compared to some of the other options at the Grand Wailea, this was pretty good (we never got to try the HumuHumu) I had the organic chicken breast which was perfectly prepared. The whole table had a chance to try to try my meal, and they all agreed that it was spot on. Others in our group had seafood and steak; everyone was pleased, but no one was blown away. We enjoyed or food, had a few glasses of wine, and in the end we didn't have anything bad to say about our dining experience. The setting here is nice and open (like all of the Grand Wailea), and we got to enjoy the sunset while eating dinner. The prices are exactly what you would expect from an overpriced resort on Maui. We overpaid for decent food, but there isn't much else to expect when you are staying at a place like this.

I like this restaurant, I don't know why only three stars. The food is delicious, nice decoration, staffs are professional, they have variation of deserts too not like other japanese restaurants, only have Green Tea ice cream.

Restaurant overlooking pool and waterfall as well as great ocean view. Excellent food and service. Fresh fish nicely prepared. We had both lunch and dinner at different times and we were very pleased with selections.

I've been to the Bistro many times for lunch--some good, some bad, some just ok. This last visit, our group of six had a very expensive/just ok lunch. $19 for a hamburger which was good and enjoyable, but not sure it commands a $19 price-tag. We were over-looking the beautiful beach--so the ambience alone is perfect and the service is pleasant. Just a-ok and of course, I'll be back.

I enjoyed this bistro by the pool. It was surprisingly better than I thought it would be given that it was at the hotel pool, and that it served a wide variety of foods. We had the hamachi sashimi appetizer one day, and then a second day because it was absolutely delicious. They through some avocado, onion, and jalapeno on it to make it that much better. So fresh and good. I had the burger one day which was solid. They typically use too big of buns at those places, and the bistro was no exception. I still made my way through it, though. Don't even worry about it. I ordered a shake one day, and although they serve it with an Oreo cookie on top, I still don't think it was worth the money. THE VIEW: We ate there the first day we arrived, and watched the sun set from the view from the bistro. It was magnificent. I think it's worth eating there at that time of day for the view alone. You've got a couple people still swimming in the pool, a couple people at the beach, and the rest is all yours. Very cool setting. I'll post a pic.

While we never went in and sat down here for a meal, we did receive excellent pool side drink service from ALL of the servers working at this restaurant. Super friendly and courteous each day we were at the pool. Thanks for making our pool time so relaxing!

  • Jennifer M.

Think we got there on a bad night. Hubby liked pulled pork flatbread a lot. Service was terribly slow. Waited an HOUR for dessert which was essentially a brownie with ice cream on top. We would have skipped dessert, but couldn't find our waitress to tell her to just cancel it.

    (1)
  • Lala S.

Not good at all. We got the ceviche but had to return it, it was very fishy tasting. I got the veggie burger it tasted like barely something a human could eat. I wont go back again which is hard considering im staying at the hotel for 9 days! Food needs major improving!

  • Barney F.

We ate here out of convenience since we didn't want to drive anywhere nor did we want to change since we just spent a day at the pool. Food was good, but a bit on the pricey side. With higher prices comes higher expectations. Afterall, this is the Grand Wailea. The $39 meal that comes with salad, entree, and dessert seems to be the deal. I had the fish and chips, which was good, but for $18? My daughter had the $28 chicken pasta. Come on...$28 for pasta?? Eat here for convenience and for the ambience since you can have a drink and watch the sunset. It's nice, relaxing, and romantic.

We had lunch here a couple times during our stay at the Grand Wailea. It was convenient to the beach and pool, and was a good alternative to the poolside lunch spot (which had limited selection). The food here is not bad, but nothing special. I had fish tacos one time, and the turkey sandwich the other time. I enjoyed both, but didn't think they were anythign special. My wife liked the sushi and salad, but we've had better in Connecticut for 1/3 the price. The onion rings were awesome the first day, but were not half as good the second time. They forgot to season the batter or something. So much for consistency. In any other location, the prices would be considered outrageous for what you get...But you're at a resort restaurant so you're paying for convenience. If you have time and don't mind driving, there are far better lunch options outside the hotel. However, if you were like us, you'll want to go back to the pool/beach quickly and just want to eat somewhere near by. Its better than the poolside cafe and you won't be splashed by some kid doing a cannonball into the water. One plus is that they have a 2-3pm happy hour with reasonably priced drinks. THey will let you take the drinks back down to the pool too!

OK, it's at a fancy hotel on an expensive island, so it's going to be pricey. Get over it. Don't lower their rating because of this. Once you accept that fact, I think our meal was really quite good. Great outdoor dining with a super view, an excellent fish entree, some tasty sushi, and a very delicious salad. Crazy good mango sorbet (tasted like we were biting into the best mango ever). Our server was nice and they took great care of the kids. If I need to stay "on campus" for a meal at the Grand Wailea, I'll eat here any day.

I went to Bistro Molokini for lunch and sat at the bar. They serve average resort food; nothing special. The fish sandwich was more bun then fish. They fish tacos were good but the nachos were nothing special because they were just chips, cheese, jalapenos and black olives.

Food is good and creative. And its at the Grand Wailea on the beach.

If you scan the prior reviews before eating here, it sort of says it all - very inconsistent. So, our meal/review will add to this. Okay, I expect overpriced. But...if I'm going to pay $200 for lunch for 2 adults and 2 kids (burgers, sandwiches, drinks, etc) - it ought to be somewhat close to perfect. At least give me a "very good." This place made Denny's close 4 star. Terrible. We just arrived on property and wanted to have lunch while our rooms were getting ready. Server was unfriendly - great start. We ordered some pretty basic stuff, my wife and my daughter having burgers. I asked if Medium rare was pink centered but cooked, assured more on rare side so I ordered Medium for the burger. Dishes come out - burgers on the overcooked side (warning) and they completely forgot my son's order. Bistro M. has a one server takes the order another server delivers the food - when they discovered by son's meal was missing, it felt like a Bermuda Triangle moment - something disappears all the time....the recovery was "oh well, we'll try and get this out of the kitchen as fast as we can." Now, nickle and dime me for bacon and mushrooms that were supposed to be part of the burger? Please. I ordered the LC sushi roll which was a greens vs. rice type roll, unusual but okay. I give 1 star for uneatable which this was not but truly a disappointment. We're enjoying our stay at Grand Wailea but this place is off-limits for us. If you roll the dice, you might get a better experience

  • Todd M.

I agree with other reviewers: pricey for the mediocre food you get. Only real thing it has going is location right between the adult pool and kids pool. I had a club sandwich with very little portions of bacon, turkey, lettuce and tomato. I switched the fries for onion rings at a $2.50 premium and they were just so-so. Total bill for a turkey club sandwich, onion rings and an iced tea: $26.04. Won't be back to this place.

  • Mike P.

This is typical bar food at Grand Wailea prices. I wouldn't come back here and really didn't want to eat there in the first place but it was convenient and I was about to eat my arm so I settled on this. I should have stuck with the arm...would have tasted better. Kidding but the food here is not good.

    (2)
  • Ross F.

Horrible food - highly overpriced - extremely poor service! Don't waste your money on this place. We had just arrived and needed some food quickly so we went here. The kids food was pathetic - our daughters hamburger was dry and overdone and our sons mahi was extremely dry. Entres were around $30 and not worth the price. In addition to waitress did not seem to care about service.

    (1)
  • Rick S.

Slow service (waited 15 mins for waitress to stop by our table, the bread arrived 15 min after our food did). Bad food. High prices: $15 for kids pasta. $23 for a supposed Kobe burger that wasn't good. The only thing that was pretty good, was the $14 cheese pizza. The worst part is, the only reason we came here was for a dessert listed on their menu in the entry. Turns out that menu was for a different restaurant in the hotel -- but it was out two days in a row. Oh and it's prices were HALF what the real menu's prices were. Sadly, I'm afraid they use this to entice people into the restaurant. [We ate here on June 30th, 2010]

I had an excellent lunch here. Was slightly reluctant after reading all the bad reviews though. I had the flat bread pizza w/ chk, artichokes & jalapeño. It was perfect! Not too spicy. The flat bread was warm & the salad greens were chilled. The Crater punch was equally good. My waiter was attentive, but not hovering. Good food & good service plus awesome views = gr8 time. Pricey but what do u expect at a resort in Wailea.

I loved the Bistro. Great for a quick lunch. Also, if you are laying at the adult's pool (the Hibiscus Pool), they will serve you by the pool. Don't miss the Lobster Salad sandwich or the Maui Onion Rings. Oh -- and the french fries! Yum. The frozen drinks are incredibly well made. The s'mores dessert was a little too rich for my taste, but they were fun to make. If you can tear yourself away from the pool, definitely grab lunch there and enjoy some whale watching. I did that, while diamond watching. There was some women with some serious BLING in Bistro! Also, if you want to grab a quick drink at night, stop by the bar. Brad is a great bartender. I look forward to seeing him again. And yes -- it's a tad pricey. But, it's a restaurant in a Waldorf Astoria hotel .. pay up.

This is a lunch and pool restaurant. Nice casual place with lunch fare and a full bar. The onion rings and natural burger are good. Not much to report here. Nothing was fabulous and it's typical lunch bar food for the most part.

During the day this place is whatever. But at night it's delicious. Try to get here on random Thursdays when there's a mini concert right outside by the 18+ pool. But get here early to get good seats. 1. Blue Cobb Salad - came served in a lettuce cup. Pretty and delicious. 2. Maui onion soup - delicious. But it's tough to go wrong with onion cheese soup. 3. Sashimi appetizer - pretty good. Pickled veggies with tuna sashimi on some cabbage. Served with soy sauce, wasabi, and ginger. 4. S'mores - nice that they offer it. Fun and delicious. 5. Assorted Sorbet - it's sorbet. It is what it is.

Lunch pricing is decent for Maui -regardless of the restaurant - and the food was good, though nothing to write home about. I had the Mahi Mahi Fish 'n' Chips, which had a good flavor, but was a bit oily...probably due to sitting around before getting to the table. The fries were crisp, but a little salty for my taste. The salad wad good. I tried their ice cream-based smoothie, which was creamy and not too sweet, though not as good as the smoothies at Aloha Mixed Plate. Service was attentive and prompt. Overall, this was a decent place for lunch, though I would not suggest it over the local fare in Kihei.

    (3)
  • Alexandra A.

I had the lobster sandwich with fries. I also had a coconut smoothy - ice cream based. The sandwich was good but the mayo mixture kind of over powered the lobster flavor. That was a bit of a bummer but it was still good. It was rich as lobster sometimes is but it was still good. The fries were ok - a little over salted. Overall not too bad but not worth going to twice.

LAST DAY IN MAUI - Thursday 9/18/2008 We ate here for lunch after our awesome treatments at Spa Grande. Since we didn't get the opportunity to actually stay at the Grand Wailea this gave the 6 of us time to enjoy the ambience and location. The outside views of the fountains, pools, palm trees and ocean were awesome. The food was pretty good. I got the lobster and crab sandwich ($20) and by boyfriend bought the ahi tuna wrap and loved it! CONS: The cons for this place would have to be the price! $20 for a sandwich can hurt the wallet, but this was our "spend money" day so it didn't really matter. You pay for the location I guess.

Went there and played tourist this past weekend. The place was busy and we had a great time. The pizza whas cooked in the Kiawe oven and really good. Great Sushi selection, Fish and Chips and Calamari. Not sure what some of the past reviewers had for lunch but pricing was totally in line for Maui (Burger $17.00 - Natural Beef) - Pizzas around $15.00 - Sushi $14 to $18 and Sashimi / Seared Ahi for $18.00. Same pricing everywhere around here...Hey, a Gal of gas cost $4.50 on Maui these days. What do you expect! I can't wait to go back and try the dinner menu next.

Liked it so much we went for lunch and dinner in the same day! The Hawaiian Sea Bass was a rare menu option I especially liked!

  • Sarah F.

Like everyone said, they have delicious calamari. But what is AMAZING are the desserts! They might be the best I've had on the island... if I'm on this side I will stop by here to get one. You have to try the banana split boat (and its a boat!) or the banana bread pudding. And I don't like bananas... go figure!

  • Kristin S.

Our drinks were strong but our food was lacking. I got a caesar salad (no chicken) and my husband got quesadillas and two mai tais and it came to $50! I understand that resorts jack up their prices but that's just a little too insane. My salad wasn't even the size of an entre salad- it was more of a side salad. Plus you have to listen to all the screaming kids at the pool while you eat. No thank you.

    (2)
  • Michael M.

"The waitress was nice" is pretty much the only positive thing I can say about this place. Well maybe you could add that the service was ok too. Unfortunately, the food and drink were terrible. The Mai Tai's we had tasted like they had been made with mix that was picked up at the .99 cent store and the food was no better. My 14 dollar salad had a few pieces of lettuce and a few slices of canned olives. Literally. The pizza was uncooked and as a result, much worse than it had to be. I guess there's not much in the way of quality control in the kitchen. It's a given that everything in Hawaii costs 2-3 times what it should. This dinner should have been ~ 30 dollars and even then I would have written the place off as a waste of money. The fact that we spent 3 times that makes it all the worse. Don't bother. You can get a better meal for the same money.
