I've been going here since I was little and I love this place! I go here at least once a week! The miso butterfish is my fave and a must try** Friday nights can be a bit hectic because of all the town center craziness but it's so worth the wait. The best part is that they have recently added SUSHI to their menu. So far I've tried the Oishi Roll and Sumo Roll. (Fyi: sumo roll is huge!) As far as customer service goes, the owner can come off as rude but she's the absolute sweetest! When it's not so busy she will actually converse with you and she may even crack jokes hahaha. Overall, this place is awesome!

I had the misoyaki... It was good. The service was very bad. Me, my brother, and my niece walked in and stood for a minute before we sat ourselves. There were 3 other parties of two there. We waited for over 10 minutes with no greeting nothing. Another party of 3 gentlemen walked in and they were immediately greeted and seated. I immediately raised my hand and had asked if we could get menus. There was no apology for the poor service. Finally we ordered and as she came back with our waters she had left a check with us. I asked her what was that she looked and took a second then said "oh it's for the other table." Then when we asked for ketchup for our 4 year old niece, we got spicy sauce instead. The waitress brought my brothers sake sampler out and my hot sake. I had to ask her for a sake cup. They seemed very disorganized and confused as to how to give proper service. We did feel bad as if maybe it was their first day. The food wasn't too bad.

Awful food. Ordered the Mother's Day special which was misoyaki butterfish and tempura and scallops. Butterfish looked like scrap pieces and tail end of fish and 2 little pieces, scallop was cold and not cooked and 2 small pieces, but the tempura was good. For $34.95 I expect the best pieces of fish and nicely cooked scallops. Disappointing. We usually go and food is good but this time they seemed to have run out of food and gave subpar food and not cooked well at all. Will not be going back. Bad bad bad!

By far the worst Japanese restaurant I've ever been to. The best thing we ate there was the miso soup. We ordered the spicy ahi tempura which is not the same as other places. It's tempura fish with some spicy mayo drizzled on it on a bed of cabbage. For our main dishes we ordered the shrimp and veggie tempura and tonkatsu curry. DO NOT order either. The shrimp was clearly old or out of the Costco frozen tempura box. The veggies were ok since it's pretty hard to mess up tempura veggies. Now for the curry, I've never seen curry that looks like Mapo tofu with a lot of peas, carrots and corn. It looked like refrigerated sauce as if just squeezed out of a premade bag and warmed up in the microwave. To top it all off, the service sucked. One poor girl ran around trying to do everything while the other employees and the owner just stood around.

The chow funn taste like they fried it in garlic butter sauce, and that was the worst cone sushi I have ever ate it didn't even taste like a cone sushi! Blah, everything else was alright.

The atmosphere is relaxed but nice. It's clean, even the bathroom, and the staff is friendly. We got the combo platter and it was huge! Easily big enough for 3 to share. The food was very good and the prices were fair. The sake sampler was awesome! It had peach, lychee, and apple sake. It's a great stop when heading to the movies!

Pleasant surprise. My wife & I ordered the Seafood Yosenabe and Tempura and Chicken Katsu dinner, which I would recommend (served hot and very tasty). The food servers were excellent and the pampering almost bordered on fine dining service. Lastly, the price was moderate and definitely a good value.

Why did I wait so long to come back??? Terrific food, good portions, good variety, decent prices. Love the nabeyaki udon, tempura light and crunchy, not oily. Servers are sweet and helpful. Ginormous sushi roll! We've gone back twice already!

Prices are kinda high not really the greatest but the food is fun and will make u smile..omg its all set up perfectly on a wonderful lill tray just like u see in the pictures. Chicken was a little salty and needed more sauce but it was super nice so its fine. For my first time we liked it we will have to try it again!! Lived here for 12 years and this is our first time there in spite of the bad reviews. We actually decided not to go on Mother's Day because of the bad service reviews but I wanted to see for myself. I'm thinking that they must have read the reviews and did some drastic changes. Service was excellent. Greeted as soon as we walked in, seated, order taken quickly and our food even arrived in a timely manner. Food was pretty good, what you would expect from a place like this. My wife and I had Mochico chicken, BBQ beef, chicken katsu and a side of mandoo. All was great. The checked on us often, during our meal, and constantly refilled out water. Servers were friendly and they even thanked us as we were leaving. Good experience for us.

Got the chicken katsu and tempura teishoku. Pros: Huge chicken katsu. Kinda salty - maybe it's marinated in something. Tasty tempura - some sort of leaves - watercress? shiso? Hard to eat, but yummy. The place is nice - not too fancy or casual (but you should see some of the customers - dressed in boros!!). Cons: Tables are kind of close to each other - bumped the person behind me as I was getting out of my chair - saw other people doing it, too. Customer service is so-so. The waitress was decent, but the cashier was a sour puss. If I had known she wouldn't say THANK YOU after we paid our bill I would have tipped a lot less! I wonder what curry cheese fries taste like? Sounds scary.

Marginal at best. Service was ehh. I tasted 3 different dishes and they all tasted the same.... Like oyster sauce. Egg rolls are good, not much else. And NO free refills on drinks I.e. coke.

The time from ordering food to delivery has always been very fast. Food quality has been above-average. Service has been spotty once or twice (out of the dozens of times my wife and I have been there), but it's a small place and I have no problem with getting up and checking at the counter for things. By and large service has been exceptional.

    (4)
  • Ursula C.

I love the tempura here. My kids can't get enough of the chicken katsu and miso soup. They could work better on refilling water but otherwise the service is good.

We ordered bentos from Maru-Hi to take over to a friends. The sets were a little pricey ($9-10) but there is so much food and so much variety. We could choose from teri beef, fried chicken, long rice, yakisoba... the list goes on. The people here are very friendly too!

I've lived in Mililani for almost 10 years without ever trying this place out. They have the best tendon I have ever had. Portions are large and comes with side dishes and salad. A steal for $9.95. Will surely be back for more!

It's been a long time since I've eaten inside of the restaurant. Growing up, I remember mostly ordering from the window around the corner from the restaurant (Okazuya type food) so I wasn't really too familiar with the menu selection. I figured that the menu would be like your typical Japanese restaurant (which it is). I had a craving for unagi (eel) and my parents had said that Maru-Hi's unagi was good. When I ordered the unagi, I wasn't expecting such a large piece of meat. At Gyotaku, if you order their unagi, you get a small piece that could probably be finished in 5 bites, compared to Maru-Hi's whose unagi is an entire fillet. The unagi was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The serving was huge and it only cost about $17. I would give this place 5 stars, but I haven't tried anything on the menu yet. However, I did notice that many of the other customers in the restaurant were ordering the mochiko chicken and what looked to be and sounded like a sizzling steak platter.

Maru hi has the best bent and to go window, the kids and I love to eat their namasu and shrimp tempura. It's so nice to find authentic Japanese food! In mililani! The ladies are so nice and cute, they wear hankerchiefs and dress in pseudo kimonos. The kids loved the spam musubi... Mom loved the ume musubi, its a blast from the past...

  • Dean M.

Very good Japanese food. The restaurant has been remodeled and the food much improved from several years ago. I had the tonkatsu (pork cutlet) and tempura which was excellent. Service was good and the prices are reasonable.

  • Gary M.

Only Okazuya in Mililani that's half as good as my favorite one. 1-shrimp tempura, 1-Vegetable tempura, 2-Fried chicken and 2- Furikake musubi sums up to $12.50 WTH!!!! Ain't coming back for another smack down. Shame on them...

This place is great!!!! If you are going to have lunch here on your lunch break, make sure you have more then an hour and a half. It isnt a fast food place and the meal takes time to get to you. But when it does, OH BOY! delicious!!! I havent tried many things on the menu but I will tell you that I love everything that i have tried so far!!! The tempura is to DIE for!!! The miso is the bomb!! the tea is yummy. I love the sukiyaki, and i love love love the sashimi!!!! After you eat until you are stuffed, you will be on a cloud of happiness, moving slowly back to your car to carry on with your day/evening! wish i lived closer, i would have dinner here as well. for two people, I usually pay around $30 or so. (: OH and not to mention their take out window!!! that is perfect for people who have a short lunch break. There is trays and trays of things you can choose from to create your own bento. the long rice is so so so good!!! if you didnt eat here yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!

OMG...Soooo good :) All my life living in Mililani I never did eat inside... my mom usually always orders from the counter outside and small stuff like musubi and tempura. My best friend and I both had dinner there tonight. I literally had only two rice krispies treats, coffee and a cup of Vitamin C drink all day...so I was huuuuungryyy :) I ordered Steak and Tempura Combo plate and I think I said it twice that I was sooo glad I ordered that bc it was good. My friend even said she never did see me clean my plate like that before... I usually don't finish my food, even if I do like the food...bad habit of mine... but i was hungry...so yah! Anyway, minus one star bc I actually wanted sushi, but the waitress said that they didn't have..?? or something...even though it was on the menu. Anyway... other than that, the meal I had was great..good friendly service and reasonable price.. worth what I paid for.

i come here straight off of the airplane for pretty much just 2 things: spam musubi meat jun i've eaten inside the restaurant a few times and had the saimin... decent.. but i'd still rather order from the outside counter... great beach food...

The family usually loves coming to Maru-Hi. The service is usually great and the food has never disappointed us...until we decided to try a few different things on the menu other than the usual combo meal. We love the miso, sake, tempura, Michiko chicken and the kids menu. We don't love the new failed attempt at bim bop or the small and dangerous fish entrees. Tonight, my butterfish was tiny for the price and had some loose bones. My wife's mackerel was super dry and had so many bones it was practically indedible (I can see some bones but these things could kill a dog and they were everywhere). I asked the waitress if it was suppose to have so many bones and she said "fish have bones". This pissed me off as the tip reflected. You don't serve a filet in a restraunt like that, I don't care how many bones the fish naturally has...

So my sister, brother-in-law, cousin and 2 nieces came in town for a few weeks. We were in the mood for japanese but it was too late in the evening to drive downtown. I recommended Maru-Hi because we've eaten here about a half dozen times in the past. When we got to the restaurant, it was 1 hour til closing and we had a party of 12. We came in the door and asked for a party of 12 and the waitress gave me this terrible look. Then proceeded to say, too many people, we close soon! OMG!!!!! So we walked next door and ate some delicious Thai.

My two brothers and I arrived to Maru-Hi restaurant around 3:20 pm (Sunday, July 5, 2015) and it wasn't busy at all, only another party of three was in the restaurant as well. It's a dine-in restaurant with a mini sushi bar in the back. The time we got our food from ordering was ok. Water was not refilled until my brother asked. Our server was already out of uniform and told us that she was off the clock as she refilled my brother's water. The owner gave my brother his card and the receipt to sign without a pen. He asked her for a pen. The owner pulled out a plastic flower from a vase on our table...it was a pen. It would have been nice if she told us where the pen was from the beginning, instead she just assumed. The amount of food you get for the price is pretty good, especially if you are getting the Teishoku Combination Sets. I had the Tonkatsu and Tempura Teishoku Combination Set for $13.95. My tempura included two fairly decent size shrimp, one Okinawan sweet potato, one carrot, one kabocha squash, and two string beans. The Tonkatsu (breaded and fried pork cutlet) was moist in the inside with a slight crunch on the outside. I enjoyed my set. It was tasty and filling. Overall, the food was good, but the service was not the kind of service I expect from a dine-in restaurant.

Have to say this is our first visit and it might be our last. Walked into the restaurant with no greeting, found the nearest table and seated ourselves waiting for a good 10 minutes with no greeting or service at all. Only until a group of men walked in did the waitress acknowledge them, being upset we interupted asking for a menu and the waitress finally obliged. We still stayed to dine and the food was good but the service was poor and down right pathetic, hope they get some training soon.

  • Helen K.

Had the misoyaki butterfish with the tempura but did not care for the butterfish as it looked as if the miso was smeared onto the butterfish as compared to it being marinated then cooked... Service was rather good otherwise!

  • Anna B.

Slow service and rude staff. Better to go elsewhere. Ordered one piece of chicken (premade) and it took 10 min. Saw order get put on counter while other orders were given out. Not a problem if it's busy, but when I asked if my order was ready (with a reminder of what it was), woman at the counter snapped, "Not yet." Inquired twice before I asked if my order was behind her on the counter. No apology, just the bag handed to me without a word. Yep, not coming back.

When to the window to get some food. . The lady took forever to help us. And when we asked about their bento she confused us a lot. We had to guess what she meant. She gave us a look like we were the stupid one. The owner or manager was nice though. On to the food. We ordered shoyu chicken and chow fun and they were cold and wasn't that great... not worth the price.. We dont usually leave reviews but just had a bad experience. Spam musubi was good.

New owner & I love a restaurant that the owner is there all the time. Good food, great service, and really great prices. A definite go to if you're in Mililani and craving Japanese food!!!

Have been going back to eat mostly dinner now since my initial review of Maru-Hi. Ownership changed in the fairly recent past and along with that, some changes to the interior decor, some new menu items and price changes. Now there is a small sushi bar that offers nigiri style sushi, various maki-style sushi, sashimi plates, chirashi bowls, etc. The fish are fresh, sushi-bar type quality (at least for the limited amount I've tried so far), but prices seem to be a bit higher than what you might pay for the same items in town. But hey, maybe it is worth paying the couple of extra bucks and save the 45 mile drive RT into town! Quality seems to be better than the Ninja-Sushi near the Radio Shack, but a bit more in price. They also have some new stuff ...like tako-yaki (yum!), some more ramen and udon dishes, a bit more selection of sake products, etc. We went early, at 5:30 pm, so pretty much the first dinner seating and it was pretty empty, so we got prompt, attentive service from the server. So all in all, if you want Japanese food (sushi/sashimi) in Mililani, better quality than Ninja Sushi or Aloha Sushi, willing to pay a bit more than in town (but save the drive and time), this is a place to consider.

Decades ago, this was the place to eat Japanese food... Now, it's not the same. I'm sad to say that the Kalbi was salty and tough, the ahi nitsuke tasted old (but the flavor was good), and the ahi sashimi was carbon blasted and tasted watery. Also, they didn't honor our gift certificate with no expiration. They stated it was from the previous owner... It was the reason why we went there in the first place. I usually don't write bad reviews, but the wait service was bad, the food came out fairly quick, and the food was ah okay. If I received a gift certificate again, I'll be re-gifted : )

BAD SERVICE! My wife and I decided to try this restaurant before heading to the movies. When we entered, we didn't even get a greet. We had to ask to be seated, mind you they were not busy at this time (3 tables were occupied). When we were ready to order, we asked for a server. However, the server decided to take the next couple that came in after us and they even got their water and ordered before us! Moreover, there were two other servers who were wiping tables and doing sidework. We waited nearly 10 mins and decided to walk out---NEVER GOING BACK! Too bad, I was excited to try their new items too.

Really great food! We have walked passed this place a lot and never really noticed it. I'm sad to think of all the great food we missed out on. Lovely atmosphere and pleasant and attentive waitresses. They are under new management and the manager is wonderful! My husband and I ordered a bento each and got a roll of sushi each. Big mistake!! Their sushi is HUGE and delicious! I must recommend the avocado roll, its really great! My husband got the dragon roll and said it was really good too! We had to get boxes and we were stuffed when we left. Next time we're bringing more people so we can get more food to try and share it all.

I would give the food three stars, but in conjunction with the poor service, I give the restaurant two stars. It took quite a while to place our order and when we finally did, we didn't receive everything. I had to ask for tea multiple times. Our waitress consistently put appetizers, drinks, and food orders in front of the wrong person--and there were only two of us! The quality of the food was very poor. My salmon misoyaki was dry, full of bones, and looked slopped together. The rice was super processed and also dry. The tea tasted watered down. For the prices, I could have purchased a much better lunch in Mililani or by the Waikele Outlets. I don't plan on returning in the future.

  • Alex E.

If I were reviewing the restaurant purely on the dine-in aspect, I would give it 3 stars. It's your standard Japanese fare here; teriyaki chicken, tempura, curry, etc served with miso soup, salad, rice, tsukemono and the like. It doesn't help that the food is purely average compared to the price they charge ($11-13/meal, cheaper for lunch though I think?) What gives it that extra star though is the side window. That window is the place where I've been getting my spam musubis in Mililani ever since I was a kid (well aside from the ones at Tesoro if I wanted a heated one, as the ones at Maru-Hi are at room temperature). Aside from spam musubis, they also have meat jun, long rice, hotdog+chicken yakitori, and always at least one premade bento. And unlike the dine-in side, the prices at the window are reasonably cheap; a 'meal' (at least to my skinny ass lol) of 2 furikake musubis and meat jun only cost about $6.50.

Been here a total of three times. When eating inside the food is ok. But eating from the take out window is terrible. Can't believe I spent $9 for one sushi fried chicken and fried noodles. Everything was oily and salty

I haven't been here in about a year and boy have things changed...for the better. The place has been renovated and the menu has changed a bit. There are a variety of teishoku choices as well as combo plates. They also have some Korean choices because they be Korean peeps running the place. I ordered the saba shioyaki and tenpura combo and it came on a huge tray which included miso soup, salad, and tsukemono. The portions were surprisingly much bigger than you would get anywhere else. Everything was really tasty and seasoned perfectly. The old bat (mom) had won ton min and she really enjoyed it cause the broth was just salty enough. She couldn't finish it so I wolfed it down for her. It was yummy. The negative? They have a sushi menu but they don't serve sushi. Our server said, "we no have today". Today? What day? Anyday? Oh well, no five star for you. Even though the restaurant side was not crowded, I noticed that the okazuya window was really busy. I'll try that next time I need a quick fix. I'm happy that I found another place to eat regularly in Mililani. I hope they are consistent...so far so good.

  • Scott M.

Very rude lady at okazuya counter. Used bad language. Would never go there again.

Menu has great variety. Can't wait to return to try more selections. Both the Miso Steak & Chicken Teishoku were awesome!

  • Terry T.

The food is very tasty...chicken katsu, asstd. donburis and tempuras. But all of this is overlooked by the poor quality of service we received today. There was one woman working the place, while the mgr and other woman tended the okazuya. I realize the okazuya is more of a money maker than ordering in so I can see why more emphasis is placed on it. We sat down at 12:03pm and did not get our food till 12:35!!!!! The server not once came over and apologized for the wait, never made eye contact with us or the other starving and waiting customers. In fact, a party of 3 next to us came in, and left bcuz the woman never came to take their order. Another party behind us left since they had a baby and never got greeted. This used to be our favorite place for japanese food but after today, I never will come back. Not being discriminatory, but they need to hire local workers instead of the foreign, japanese and koreans.

i was quite impressed...the box dinners were pretty good. very nice price! I think like less than $15 for a whole meal! we loved the mochiko chicken and tonkatsu! miso soup here was tasty. Service was great! i was quite happy with this cute japanese restaurant for dinner in Mililani area! i gotta try the tempura, thats next time...it looked pretty damn good!

  • Deena T.

We love eating at Maru-Hi. The prices are reasonable and the service is attentive. I really like the Korean food here. The sizzling bowl meal is yummy. The hubs always gets the box meal with mochiko chicken and tempura.

  • Troy M.

4 star for the okazuya outside. Although this is a Japanese place it is run by korean. The Meat Jun is great and naturally the stand out for the Okazuya. The Fried chicken is also great.

    (4)
  • Niki S.

Way over-priced! The large bento box tray is deceiving for the amount of "choices" you make...but they don't hold back on the rice which makes it look like there's alot of food in the box. The miso soup was good but was only less than half of the bowel it was served in.

  • Todd T.

First, why even two stars? Three things: (a) They serve a ton of food, (b) the water is good, and (c) the orange slices were refreshing and sweet. That's it! I've seen the restaurant many times previous but never went in. So, a friend and I went to satiate my curiosity. Would I return. . . no. Not even if someone was willing to pay the bill. Why? (a) The miso soup tasted like it came from some instant package. (b) The gyoza looked like it came from the frozen foods department from Marukai (and you're charging $6+ for it????) (c) When the gyoza came out, they brought some kind of Korean sauce with it. I was not keen with it, so I attempted to make the vinegar and shoyu sauce. I poured the shoyu into the plate, but there was no vinegar in the other bottle. I was like, "What?" I looked at all the other tables and none of them had vinegar (although each table had to bottles). We ended up having to ask for vinegar. (d) The tempura was horrible! That was too much batter on the shrimp, shiso, and vegetables. Normally, you're able to taste the shiso when it is in a light batter, but I tasted the batter. What a waste! You couldn't even taste the shrimp! (e) My friend's chicken teriyaki looked good, but she said the teriyaki sauce tasted like it came from a bottle. It looked that way too (very thick and overly-poured over the chicken). (f) Service was truly lacking. There were only 3 tables of people when we arrived, and two when we left. And even then, we kept looking around for the waitress. The waitress wore some faux asian looking outfit. She hardly came around to refill our tea or water. We literally waited 15 minutes for her to return just to pick up the payment. Very disappointed. Much like Ka'imi L. . . . I would never drive all the way out to Mililani to eat there. I'd drive out to Honolulu to eat at places like Ojiya and Menchanko-tei, but not Maru-Hi. They really have to shape up to get my business again.

Went for lunch today. I normally order their sukiyaki but felt it was time to try their Katsudon. I compare and judge other restaurants Katsudon's with the now closed Misuzu restaurant as the best. No one has come close yet - not even Maru Hi. Service was fine but the miso soup was lukewarm (I like it hotter). Little higher priced than I would want it to be but you do get a bang for your buck. Their CC machine was down so I had to pay with cash. Since I had the cash it was not an issue but I think they need an alternate option if their machine goes down again. I was not about to go looking for an automated teller even though I knew there was one at the end of the building.

Restaurant - 0 stars As long as you're not dining in, you're fine... At least that was my experience! I've had their take out bento items before and they're not bad so I figured I would try out their restaurant seeing as how mililani lacks any good Japanese restaurants. (Ramen shops do not count!) So 3 waitresses on the floor, you'd think they would be on top of things. We did get seated immediately(it was slow.) but it went downhill from there. I'll make a list... -- no one came to take our order for quite some time... Not even water. (Reminder: 3 waitresses in this small restaurant) -- I asked for low-sodium soy sauce and the waitress looked so confused. I told her no worries but she insisted on bringing me something that she thought I was asking for. She brought me back a to-go packet of kikkoman shoyu..... (Silence....) -- after we got out food, no one checked on us to see if we were doing ok or to refill our water.... My bf and I had completely empty cups. I had to flag one of the girls down to refill and ask for our check. -- still waiting for our check... I went up to the counter to pay and watched in shock as the girl looked through the menu to write down the prices of the food we ordered... (Seriously?!) Yea that was my regrettably first and absolute last time I will eat here.

Ahhh this has always been a go-to destination for my family when we're in dire need of a snack when at Mililani Towne Center. The food is definitely on the salty side, but it's a taste I've come to love from here! I usually get the yakitori stick, spam musubi, and kinpira gobo from their okazuya window. It's definitely not AS GOOD as it used to be before they switched management, it's still good!

We decided to take a walk to the Town Center and have dinner so taking that mile and a half walk was good as it helped fuel my appetite (Not that I really need much help) well after contemplating which restaurant to eat at we decided to go to Maru-Hi haha mostly because of me. Well I got the Saba Shioyaki and Tempura Set and a little bottle of Kurosawa Jun-Mai Kimono (Sake) to go with the Saba. That Sake really was a good pick as it complemented the oily Saba Perfectly. The Tempura that came with the set was good also with two pieces of good size shrimp and a Termpura Shizo leaf, Sweet Potato, Pumpkin and I think a piece of daikon but I didn't get that since my 2 year old spirited that away from me. I liked the pickles that came with the meal and of course some Edamame. The Service was pretty good and the food was great for the $15 for that dinner set which was pretty reasonable for a Japanese restaurant. Parking since it is at the Town Center is pretty ample although you do have to walk into the middle of the Town Center to get to the Restaurant. which sometimes has a lot going on at least during the weekends. Haha After that Walk I was so hungry that I totally forgot to Check In and Take pictures, so I have to minus a star from a review of myself! doh.

I can't believe I never came here before when I lived in Mililani! I've only come here twice for lunch and it's pretty darn good. They have lunch specials like mochiko chicken, tonkatsu, tempura, oyako donburi, teriyaki chicken... etc. that are just under $9 that come with miso soup, tsukemono, and salad! I was full after only eating half of my oyako donburi. I could finish the entire tonkatsu but they kind of a lot... I was definitely full after that too. So far, I've only had the tonkatsu and oyako donburi. The oyako donburi is as expected but the tonkatsu is perfect! It makes me sad that this place is always empty when I come. They also have a window counter that you can order from and they sell things like bentos and musubis.

My BF & I had to go to Wahiawa for some business. It just so happened that we were hungry, and decided to go eat in Mililani. (I tried Yelping for things in Wahiawa, but I couldn't seem to find it? If anyone knows of a good place in Wahiawa, LMK!! (: ) I Yelped around Mililani Town Center. We made our decision based off of how many stars were given. It was between this place, Tasty Korean BBQ, and some other place that I can't remember. When we walked in, I was surprised by the interior. It looked like they really put effort into the decor. The chairs were especially nice. The waitresses were this cute outfit. There were about 5 other tables eating when we arrived, so they weren't very busy. The waitress sat us and gave us time to choose. My BF always gets teriyaki anything. I convinced him to get the combo bento that they have because you get to choose 3 different things. He ended up getting teri, mochiko, and gyoza. I got the salmon steak. So, the reason I gave this place a 3 stars instead of a four was because of a few things. The first thing and the main thing for me was the miso soup. They gave it to us first, so I was able to really pay attention to it. It came in this cute little cup thing (the picture of it is right here yelp.com/biz_photos/dux_… ) But the amount of miso soup was SO SMALL. I mean, really small. My BF even made a comment about it. There wasn't very much soup you could drink it in a gulp. Literally. The miso soup itself was also very salty. I'm Japanese, and my mother is from Japan. So I've tasted many different types of miso, but this miso tasted like they added a little too much miso taste. The tofu was also hard. It didn't taste like it had been in the miso very long. Maybe they had ran out of miso and was making a new batch, forgot to add tofu, and quickly added some before taking it out to the table? Either way, it wasn't very good. My meal itself was pretty tasty. I enjoyed the salmon steak. I liked that it wasn't a think piece, but rather a thinner one. Unfortunately a part of my fish wasn't cooked all the way. The tsukemono was also a bit weird. Maybe I'm just not used to their tsukemono, but I didn't care for it. It was much too salty for me. They did taste homemade though, which I admire. A lot of Japanese restaurants now use premade stuff. I do like this restaurant though, and if I were ever in Mililani I would go again. While we were there, we saw the staff (which only consisted of a man, probably the owner, with two other woman) cleaning and pealing shrimp. It was nice to know that they put in the effort for their food. It's offsetting to see the black line when you take a bite of your shrimp.

Ordered take out 30 minutes ago, still waiting. I know the order wasn't turned-in to the kitchen because I overheard them placing the order. If it was turned-in, they should have told me, rather than telling me it's almost ready. Plus, people that came In after I placed my order are seated and eating their dinner. Really bad customer service.

Food is always good! I like the tempura miso butter fish combo. Not many places in Mililani that has Japanese food, so I come here often if I'm craving it

I went here with my 6 year old son to buy him some spam musubis. They don't take card if the order isn't over $10. When I told her "Sorry, I don't have cash" the old lady working there waved me off in disgust and walked away. Let me remind you I had a 6 year old kid with me. Classy place with great customer service...

Ive been here twice so far and I gotta say, it's pretty good! It's one of those typical Japanese restaurants (similar to a Gyotaku I would say). They have really good crispy tempura, and their french fries - which i am sure comes out of the freezer, is fried and cooked really well...yum. (i know, i know, who in the heck orders french fries, but we do when we go out to eat with a picky 11 year old...btw, nice to have that one the menu maru hi! kudos!), their mochiko chicken is good, and their teishokus are pretty big. Some of their dishes are just "alright" though. Their ahi steak was pretty dry. And boyfriend's mom ordered the saimin and said it was too starchy and not properly cooked. Like i said, I can't really complain about this place. Its what you expect for this kind of Kabuki/Gyotaku-type restaurant. It's not the best japanese food ever, but it doesn't leave you going home angry either. Food is decent, atmosphere is nice (bring a jacket, it's cold sometimes!), servers are nice and attentive. I'd definitely return. Its a nice, weeknight, wanna go out and eat japanese but don't wanna spend too much money, take your family, kinda place. And considering the other options in Mililani, this place is pretty freaking awesome.

I used to eat here all the time before they renovated the place. I'll be honest, I liked the old restaurant more than I do the new one. Once they got a face lift I decided to go see if they were the same. I got the butter fish, and it wasn't as good as I expect butterfish to be. Along with the butterfish I got miso soup, want hot and there wasn't that much. Like they give you a minimal amount. I went there last night with our friends. They were nice enough to let us in last minute. Again, not a lot of miso soup. The waitress looked like she didn't really know what she was doing. The trays that they bring everything out on is a bit big. They don't really have much space to put the trays down next to each other. The waitress was having a hard time. .. Like a really hard time. I got miso salmon this time and it was literally like the just grabbed miso paste straight from the bag and just slapped it on my fish. It was to salty. While we were eating, the waitress didn't even bother with our empty glasses of water till the very end. I liked the old set up more and I feel like the food lacks a lot more than it used to. They also have to fix their service, cos it was pretty bad. Ill take my money to a different place.

I'll start by saying the ambiance was good; I felt relaxed. We arrived close to closing without realizing the time but they let us in and served our food without complaint. The miso soup tasted great but there was only three pieces of tofu in the soup and my buddy only had two pieces of tofu. Not cool. The kalbi was a small helping but tasted really good as did the gyoza. The staff didn't really give me a warm and fuzzy feeling. All in all I would say it was alright.

Am I the only one who thinks that this place is underrated in Mililani?! Whenever I pass by it, it's usually empty. Maru-Hi is known for their window food, but I think people should try and dine inside the restaurant and see what they have to offer! However, to be completely honest... My family and I only come here when there is a long wait for Korean BBQ... But I really don't mind because I do like this place! I do request to come here every once in a while, however, this place is a bit pricey. Which is why we don't come here often. They have lunch and dinner prices, and their lunch prices are totally reasonable. But the dinner prices are $2 more for the same portion and it makes a big difference when a family of 6 dines together. Their miso soup is my absolute favorite!! It's so flavorful, but I really dislike that they give small portions. I can finish my soup in 3 gulps. I love their BBQ beef with tempura combo. They drench the beef with a teri sauce, and their tempura tastes so good! I also like their sashimi and kalbi combo, or I believe they call it the maru-hi special and it also comes with tempura. I like their sashimi, but my dad thinks they get their sashimi from Costco and they just cut it in half. Their sashimi is very itty bitty, like verrrrrry itty bitty. Service is a hit or miss. Sometimes they're very tentative and sometimes their service sucks where water doesn't get refilled or it takes forever to get a waiter's attention. I don't understand why, when they are hardly ever busy which is why I deduct a star for this review and another for their prices.

Stood at the door waiting for someone to greet us. The servers looked at us and kept doing what they were doing until their only other guest said something in Korean that they had customers. Not sure how they could have missed us. The restaurant was empty. As we waited for our food, they brought over my food and as I was about to dig in, another lady in black came over right away and grabbed it off my table saying it was the wrong order. SMH. Wow. I use to come here when my daughter attended MHS and the service was great. Not sure about returning any time soon. As we waited by the cash register to pay our bill, the same lady in black that took the food away from me, asked me how many so she could seat us. I told we were done eating and just wanted to pay our bill. I can't believe she didn't even know we were sitting just a table away from her as we ate our dinner. Really shows me they don't care about their customers.

How on earth has this place stayed in biz so long? The food is not good at all. The only reason they get 3 stars is because it's clean, our wait staff was nice and the food came out fast. I tried this place about three years ago and the food was way too sweet. I think I had sukiyaki or pork tofu or something like that. This time the experience no different. The miso soup was lukewarm and tasted like it was from a mix that they didn't add enough water. The salad was from the bag and wilted on top of that. The gyoza was tasty and crunchy but a little oily. My main dish was the curry with croquette. It was a gigantic portion of rice with curry gravy that tasted ok. They threw in frozen mixed vegetables. BIG FROWN. I thought I would get real carrots and potatoes. And the croquettes were straight from the freezer. COME ON PEOPLE LETS AT LEAST TRY A LITTLE!!! I'm writing this in hopes the owners will read these and improve so we can have decent Japanese food in Mililani. But why did I bother. It seems from the other reviews they should know by now? It seems like they care because the place Is so clean. But get a clue...you're a Japanese restaurant in Mililani but never crowded. And the Thai restaurant next door and the Korean place right across always packed. Don't they wonder why? Don't they even care?

Maru-Hi has reasonable japanese food for a decent price. I enjoy the Nabeyaki Udon here. I really wish there was fresh sushi, something that Mililani is lacking. I have had the sashimi here before but I suggest passing, it's previously frozen. They have lunch and dinner specials which are worth looking at if you arent sure what to get. The tempura here was really good too, not quite as good as Kunio's in Waikele, but still decent. Outside there is an Okazuya window which sells all your standard fare, prices are a bit up there, so dont be surprised when your 3 choice ends up being $8.00

First time going here, we went for dinner. I ordered the teriyaki beef teishoku with teri beef and tempura, and changed the mixed tempura to all vegetable. The beef was tasty, some pieces were kind of tough. I was pleased with my entire teishoku over all; the mixture of food was very good. We also ordered the yakitori, which was tasty. My boyfriend ordered the kalbi teishoku and his meat was like jerky. The beef was WAY overcooked and almost impossible to eat. The flavor was burned teriyaki. The service wasn't very good. The woman who took our order tried to take the order without writing it down and came back with a notepad to take our order a second time. I heard the okazu window during lunch time is good though!

This place is pretty good if you want Japanese food. I usually order the new york steak teishoku which is very delicious. I also love there tempuras, crispy and good with sauce. Only downside is that they give too little miso soup. Overall, this is one of my favorite places to go.

I have been coming here for awhile now, and consider this place to be an indulgence because of the good food, expensive prices. My last visit, however, was not exactly worthy of my expectations... My fiancé and good friend decided to go here, especially after how I raved about this place. We were seated, and two tables after us were seated as well. They took their time coming to take our order, and when they did they were rude and abrupt. We all ordered something quick and simple (ramen, tempura) and were VERY disappointed to find that after waiting close to an hour our food had not arrived. The other tables had all received their food, AND not to mention they had kids with them. The waitress neglected to refill our waters, while we could hear her offering the other tables refills. After an hour we decided this was hopeless (when we asked the estimated time for our food she was abrupt and said it would 'be out soon') so we left. I'm not sure if this was just bad luck, but this experience really puts me off and makes me feel bad for wasting my fiancé and friends dinner hour last night (especially since i had talked so highly of it) so I WILL DEFINITELY NOT be returning here.

As if I wasn't mochi-K.O.'d out from yesterday's bento at Imari, dinner at Ah-Lang and dessert at Shokudo, I decided that I haven't had my fill of good local Asian cuisine yet. I was catching up on chores at home and watching my sister and thought we'd have a nice lunch at Town Center. I remembered that my tita Raenaa F. used to go to Maru-Hi quite often with her parents for dinner and was quite impressed with the food. For years, I only went to the "Magic Window" okazu-ya (which is a fixture in the Town Center's history books) for spam musubi, chow funn, and yummy fried chicken. Standard okazu items were their specialty I thought and I wouldn't dare enter the front door. It used to be so dark in there, I hadn't a clue what went on and never had the courage to find out. Now this place is revamped with a bright interior, really nice hardwood tables and chairs, well thought-out leather menu books, and a nice selection of beer and liquor/sake. Even the magic window has expanded a bit and doesn't look the least bit dingy or dirty. In fact, this is one of the cleanest Korean-owned restaurants I've been to. They have $8.95 lunch specials that consist of a choice of teriyaki chicken, some kind of meat, mochiko chicken, chicken katsu and tonkatsu; assorted tempura; rice; and of course miso soup. yelp.com/biz_photos/dux_… Their miso is not just any soy broth. It's the kind of miso you want to bathe to experience its miso-yumminess all over. As soon as we finished our soup, we were served our Godzilla-sized mochiko chicken lunch special platers. yelp.com/biz_photos/dux_… I'm not sure if they even make a bento bako large enough to pack all of these goodies in because it was definitely a daunting task to finish this all. I'm glad my sister wasn't afraid to have right at it though! The chicken was slightly sweet and nicely fried. Although my mouth is still recovering from the trauma incurred trying to bite these huge pieces, I really enjoyed them. It's also worth mentioning that they are pretty fresh considering it was a special. yelp.com/biz_photos/dux_… My favorite part about the meal was the tempura though. I think I could live off of this stuff, especially the pumpkin and shiso leaf varieties. The Okinawan sweet potato was pretty good too but was so chiisai! I was disappointed in that. I traded my shrimp for one of my sister's veggies but I forget which it was. I just know it was yum yum in my tum tum. yelp.com/biz_photos/dux_… Our bill came out to $20 with a soda and I was very satisfied with meal. My sister was able to take a whole take-out box full home so I know she was happy she got another meal out of it too.

Wow. I was expecting much, MUCH better than what I had. I would rate this place 1.5 stars, based only on the fact that I have only had one experience (lunch) thus far (Sunday). For starters, service was meh at best. Only ONCE were our drinks refilled, and never were we asked how things were. Knock off for that. Secondly, the food was HORRID. I had the mochiko chicken & tenpura lunch set. The tenpura was bad. The shrimp was slimy, and it was the ONLY thing I ate from what they included. There was no carrot, no zucchini/cucumber, no stringbean - just a potato (blah) and shiso leaf (BLAH). Next, the salad: HORRIBLE!! Store-bought vegetables with the WORST dressing drowning it out. I almost vomited when I ate it and IMMEDIATELY set it aside. Rice was fine. Miso soup was fine, albeit fairly saltier than I'm used to. The mochiko chicken was the ONLY saving grace from my set, and it still wasn't great. Majority of the mochiko "chicken" was just fried skin. Waste of money. My gf had the ahi nishime or something as such, which was essentially long-rice with a few pieces of extremely dried-out fish. I'm sorry but this place was the WORST Japanese food experience I have ever had. I WILL try their okazuya still, but with much caution. I was seriously hoping for something decent, but now it's on my "never-to-go-to" list.

As I'm drafting my review of Maru-Hi Restaurant, I see Rod U.'s review and I agree with him in that the food at Maru-Hi is a bit inconsistent. I've only been here once for dinner because we were waiting to catch a movie at the nearby theater. There was no wait and the restaurant was pretty empty (1 other party) for a week night. The staff was friendly, and at first glance, I wondered why it was empty...especially when the Maru-Hi Special (Kalbi with rice, assorted tempura, and shashimi, served with salad, miso soup, & tsukemono) for $16.95 appears very reasonable. The truth is though that I only half enjoyed my meal. The miso and tempura were probably my favorites and the salmon shashimi was bland (so much that the next day I went to Costco to get some raw salmon and had fresh shashimi at home). I would give Maru-Hi a second chance to wow me. What prompted me to give it 3 stars instead of 2 was that the service was on point.

Whoops I accidentally wrote a review for the wrong place. Sorry if I made anyone confused. Below is my correct review. So I love how they have a window on the side for quick pre-cooked food. The Musubi is really good with a decent price. I love the sweet potato, veggie, and shrimp tempuras. But be careful though, individually all the food seems decently price, but when you add them they add up quickly haha. As for the dine in, I haven't had a chance to dine in. The last time I was there was back when I was in high school. From memory I enjoyed the butterfish. I will definitely need to go back and dine in to give a proper review. However, just from the side window takeout experience I really like them.

They try really hard. They try to make quality food ala minute at reasonable prices while still delivering great service. They really try. Unfortunately, every time I've eaten in the restaurant, some things are cooked incredibly well and others a total wreck. Its obvious that there is not enough kitchen staff to meet the high standards the restaurant wants to deliver. An example, on my most recent visit, two diners, two dishes: mixed tempura with hot soba, tonkatsu and tempura teshoku. Highs: - Perfectly cooked tonkatsu set on a personal cooling rack. Crispy, hot, moist mid well. - Perfect kabocha and shiso tempura cooked in clean oil, fresh from the fryer. Lows: - Overcooked soba in an extremely salty, over reduced broth that made it inedible. - Over reduced miso soup; salty and bitter. - Raw batter with the shrimp tempura (disappointing since they use a huge U-10 shrimp split lengthwise) Prices are insanely low for strip mall Japanese. Weekday mixed teshoku lunch special less than $9, weekend starting at $11. Portions are very large. To put it into perspective, a plate lunch that you order from a counter and eat on a bench outside from neighboring places cost between $8-$11. Restaurants need to stay competitive but at what cost? It is better to serve mediocre food that is consistent than striving for the best and always missing. There is no value when one person says their meal is awful and another raves about theirs. To Maru-Hi, good luck. I hope you find your identity and survive.

What to say... First off I use to go to this place when I was a teenager and for it being in Mililani, it was really good..Over the years the service has gotten bad and the food just got HORRIBLE!!! I ordered the fried butterfish, my son the kalbi and my husbabe the tempura/kalbi... First my butterfish was way salty, my sons kalbi was really thin and the tempura had no flavor and was stale...Being that we went quiet often we felt like not letting that one horrible night ruin it for us.. Well a last week we decided to take my in-laws there and OH BOY!!!! Our waitress was young and DID NOT service us well at all. She stayed in the back most of the time and we didnt get our water after being seated until about 15 mins later, after we asked! My father in-law ordered the salmon and when brought to us it was less than the size of my 16year olds palm. When asked the waitress if that was the amount of salmon we were getting for that price, you are not going to believe what happened next, SHE LAUGHED and walked away. Yes I said it!!! She just laughed. My sons kalbi was chewy, our tempura was once again stale and our drinks got filled once. We paid $120 and you better believe she got NO TIP!!!! We have decided to never return there for dinner!! Although the Okazu is GREAT :))

What do you do when you're stuck in Mililani Town Center and craving Japanese food?? Well, the answers simple, you go to Maru-Hi! Maru-Hi has been around as far back as I can remember. Back in my elementary years I remember I had yet to acquire a liking for Japanese food and would only eat their spam musubis or yakitori sticks. But I'm glad to say my taste has changed and now I can finally appreciate Maru-Hi's actual food! I learned that Maru-Hi has switched owners multiple times and when they had a fire they actually remodeled the restaurant. I remember before it was very dark with booth stall tables, but now it's clean, bright, and space efficient yelp.com/user_local_phot… ! What I love about Maru-Hi is their teishoku! Their teishoku is served with miso soup, salad, rice, and tsukemono and ranges from $14.95-$23.95. I know the price may seem a little steep, but you get what you pay for. The teishokus are big enough for two or more people (depending on the size you get) and the food is hot, fresh, and delicious! I got and shared the combination teishoku special which lets you pick two teishoku entrees and comes with assorted tempura and two large fried sea scallops ($23.95) yelp.com/user_local_phot… . They even added a little wooden umbrella to my food! But If you're too busy to eat in there's always the "secret window" on the outside of the restaurant. It's pretty much a to-go window where you can order musubis, yakitori sticks, cone sushi, bentos, and a whole bunch of other Japanese food! The best part about Maru-Hi is that it's the only restaurant in Mililani that serves a wide array of Japanese sake and beer! What a plus for Japanese beer/sake lovers!!

I cannot believe I've never tried this Japanese restaurant...especially since it's at Miliani Town Center. I got the sukiyaki meal and it came with a lot of food! I wasn't expecting such a large meal. There was a lot of veggies and the bowl that it came is was SUPER hot! My mushrooms cooked in the broth pretty fast. I had also gotten gyoza which was cooked perfectly! Lot of food for reasonable price and I even took some home! Can't wait to go back! #Yelp 365 Challenge-105/365

Alright, the low down? Just your average Japanese restaurant. My experience was ok, but I don't think I'd travel all the way out to Mililani just to eat here. Some memorable aspects of my experience (+ for positive, - for negative): + Attentive service despite the large crowd. - The miso soup was terrible! It was way too salty. - I thought tempura was supposed to crunch? It was soggy. Gross. + Very discreet location with lots of parking. - Felt a little claustrophobic. There's a lack of ample room to "spread out" and relax. The chair behind mine kept bumping against my own. + Prices aren't too bad for what you get. Final recommendation: A very mediocre restaurant... I think management needs to step up their game if they want to attract more people.

what: okazuya and restaurant in mililani town center! something good: my family and i came upon this okazuya as we were walking around the town center. it is super cute and the people who work there wear these super cute outfits : ) !! it was really cool because all the food is displayed and you order through their take out window. it's easy to see the prices and the food you are ordering~ the food was actually really tasty, i loved their sauce and some of the okazuya items! so yummy! i would love to come here again for okazuya! something not so good: it can get a little pricey when you start adding a little of everything, but the food is so worth it : ) !! something to try: tempura sweet potato and chow fun

First off let me say that I'm not a big fan of Japanese food. I don't eat sushi at all. I'm one of those weird Japanese people. Haha! But a friend wanted to come so we came here for dinner the other night. The restaurant is small but nice. There was only 1 waitress. They had a dinner special which was mochiko chicken. It also came with 4 gyoza, tempura (1 shrimp and 3 vegetables), miso soup and tsukemono. The vegetables were really small. My friend got the chicken teriyaki combo. Hers came with tempura (2 shrimp and 3 vegetables), miso soup, tsukemono and salad. The food was really good. Maybe, just maybe the mochiko chicken was a little salty. We didn't have to wait long to be seated or for the food to come out. The waitress was not too friendly though. I noticed that she asked other customers if they wanted more water but did not ask us. What was that all about? We're both Japanese!!! LOL! The price of the food was pretty decent. Our 2 meals plus tip came out to about $30. Not bad. I'll be back to try the oyako donburi. They also have a take out window...I heard that the musubi's and the bentos are GOOD. I guess we'll see.

Ate here two times in the last month to give it a try seeing that it's the only Japanese place to eat in Mililani and I'm just not impressed. The first time I ate the sukiyaki -portion size was not bad for the price -but it was too salty for me The second time I ate the zaru soba -tempura came with: one shrimp, half of a kabocha (Japanese winter squash), half of a sweet purple potato, and a shiso leaf -noodles came out soggy (overcooked and soggy) overall: I'm going to stick to Mililani BBQ when I eat in the town center and definitely continue to walk past this restaurant

Tried to get into Just Tacis but as usual there was a wait. Maru-Hi was fast easy and inexpensive. I don't recommend the saki sampler but everything else was fantastic. Great with kids or a not-your-average-Friday-night-date. We will be back!

Boy, do they get busy on a Friday night. We were lucky to snag a table before a line began to form. This place is definitely small and squishy. I wouldn't recommend this to be a family friendly restaurant for young kids. There is little room to move especially if you have a stroller. Placing a high chair at the end of the table would make the aisles even more difficult to walk through. And the placement of the tables itself are squishy. There was a "healthy" lady sitting behind me and I was squished, even though my seat was pulled all the way in to my table. The service was slow...it took us an hour and a half for dinner. They must have had only one cook in the back or something. But the waitress was very friendly and kept smiling even under the pressure of the environment. I ordered a teishoku combo of salmon and tempura and my husband ordered the combination plate. Both orders had miso soup and I thought it tasted okay since I was hungry. The tsukemono was really good and consisted of pickled daikon, salted cabbage, and soybeans. There was also a salad that came with the meals. The dressing tasted like thousand island. My tempura was nice and crunchy but my salmon was still undercooked in the middle. What was most disappointing is that the salmon was not fresh, but frozen. I thought the $20 price tag for my order was overpriced for frozen salmon. On the other hand, my husband enjoyed his combination plate. There was a nice variety to the order and he had a difficult time eating it all. It came with 2 scallop tempuras, barbecue meat, tempura, tonkatsu, salad, and tsukemono. This place is just okay and we would come here again since it's a decent Japanese restaurant in our neighborhood.

First time here and not planning on going back. I had the bento with three choices - Teri chicken, bbq beef and tempura. My husband had the meal with kal bi and sashimi. Teri chicken and tempura was ok. The bbq beef was tough and tasted like it had been marinated too long. My husband kal bi was so tough it was borderline jerky. For our two meals and one soda was $48. don't waste your time our money.

I got the Kalbi Dinner Plate and boy was I sorry. The meat was so tuff and chewy and not all that flavorful. My dog wouldn't even eat that. About the only thing that was truly edible was the white rice that came with the meal. I didn't care much for the ice cold Edimame. If you want GOOD Kalbi, drive all the way to Kapolei and go to the Kapolei Korean BBQ. Now that is some tasty Kalbi.

First time there. Took my three children to eat for dinner. Was seated right away but took them 15 minutes to take our order. It was not busy. 5 servers and still no one got to us. Other customers were seated and asked right away what they wanted to drink and such. After they took our order, it took them another ten minutes to get our drinks. They didn't ask us what we cared to drink for in the first place. They just gave us water. I ordered burger steak with fries for the kids and they came out with rice instead of fries. Three different servers handled the two burger plates. They took it back with the rice, then came back to give us the meat alone and said your fries are cooking. What were my kids suppose to eat with their meat? I gave them my rice since they were hungry. Mind, they did not apologize for the mistake. I asked for no cabbage in my soup and when it came out, it looked like cabbage soup. Had a couple of bites and asked for it to go. They never checked up on us or asked if we needed anything. When I asked to speak with the manager after I paid of course. The old asian lady said : for what?! I asked again: "may I please speak with a manager?" She said again: yeah, what?! I said: you have really poor service! She replied: that was one mistake, the rice and fries! I said: no, not the food, your service was poor, we were treated very badly! She said in a strong tone: No baby! One mistake. Ok?! I hold my Tongue in front of my children. I had to walk away. There is no way I'm ever eating there again. The food sucked, service was poor, and the management or owner was a horrible person! I paid for my food before making any complaints. And all was needed was an apology. We got nothing! It's a restaurant, not a strip club or a place for a mamasan! Learn how to talk to your customers and teach your employers the same. They acted like they couldn't understand English. You spoke very good English to me! What's not to understand! Idk what it is. But I'm a local, I pay for my food and services and none of that shit worth my money or time. I could've went to Macdonalds and got a better experience than this shit hole! Never again! Avoid this place at all cost!!!! Racist Asians!!!!!

Its been awhile since I had some good Japanese food and this place made up for that. I really this place, the decor of the restaurant feels a little like japan with the lanterns and pictures hanging on the wall. And the servers were dressed in those traditional style restaurant uniforms, a apron and a bandanna over their heads. I ordered one of their soba noodles and for appetizers I got a yakatori chicken stick (3 pieces) and its covered with a type of sweet sauce on it. All and all this place is really good and the prices are reasonable. Yelp 365 Challenge - #040/365

More people gottsta eat here, yo!! If you love Japanese food, EAT HERE. Even if you don't, eat here anyway. Service is great. Food is grinds. They give you a huge amount, too. I always leave here satisfied and full. My wife and I used to eat here all the time for Date Night. Japanese food served in all its compartmental glory. I always eat the bento box meal and choose tempura, mochiko chicken, and gyoza. My wife always eats the same boiling bowl of something. Whatever's in there at the start, I never see in the end. Oishii, yo!! Cozy, comfortable place. Kinda romantic, really...if I were into that kinda thing. I'll be that guy for my wife. She probably doesn't think so. Anyway, I highly recommend this place. You won't be disappointed. Eat well, go to Cookie Corner on the way to your car, and you'll be a happy camper.

Maru-Hi is a great Japanese restaurant in the Mililani Town Center. It's nicely decorated with lanterns, hardwood tables, and bright lights - did you notice the desk fountains for each table along the window sill? The AC keeps the restaurant on the cooler side, so bring a jacket if you get cold easily. There are lots of options to choose from on the menu: bento boxes, curry plates, donburi (rice bowls), tempura, and noodle soups (udon, soba, ramen). We had: dinner special - choice of mochiko chicken or bbq beef, comes with tempura, 4 gyozas, rice, and miso soup. This was a great deal; a lot of food for $10.95. The mochicko chicken and tempura were very good - not too oily or salty. oyako-don - chicken and egg rice bowl. Big portion, nice flavor. Sometimes oyako-don is made with runny eggs, which I prefer, but the eggs were cooked completely here. shrimp tempura curry plate - good curry sauce with vegetables (peas and corn). Overall, Maru-Hi is a solid choice for good, authentic Japanese food. Most of the entrees come with miso soup and salad. Prices are very reasonable. Parking is free and ample in the Town Center.
