Best shaved ice! It's like eating snowflakes the ice is so soft. The flavors are great, not as sweet as some others.

There are a couple of other shaved ice places around this are and I was most looking forward to trying this place out. Back in May, I tried to come here but it was closed til "summer" and so I was initially happy to see this place open this time around. Shaved Ice - How much did it cost? $4 something - close to $5. They can do a lil better with the signage. No place that mentions cost or the various powders/milk/extras you can get aside from the flavors. So why a 3 star? Of the handful of shaved ice places, this was definitely the most finely shaved place. It almost had the texture of juice. The instant you put a spoon in your mouth, it's complete liquid. Thus, it also melted into liquid more quickly than others. And to top off my experience, I had requested for Li Hing Mui powder and Condensed Milk on top which they forgot. It's just my personal experience but if you like super finely shaved ice - this is the spot for you. Remember to order at the little hut on the porch next to the beach hut burger place. I think I may try the smoothie next time!

Since today was sweltering, this hit the spot. But overall the flavor was average at best. The ice was really fine and soft but they could do better on the syrups.

Super yummy and ice texture was perfect! Great selection of flavors, acai bowls, fruit smoothies, & milkshakes too! Can get busy there, so be prepared for a line during the lunch rush, but service is fast once you get your order in. They take cash or card, so that's a plus too. Enjoy!

The shave ice was good - somewhat limited in the # of flavors, but the ones we tried were great. I really appreciate the attention to detail that it takes to make a shave ice. These guys do well.

Shave ice was great the other day when I first visited, but would not recommend coming here if it is out of your way and you're not positive it will be open. Ended up waiting 45 minutes today because they "would be here soon."

Delicious. Tropical. Refreshing. The POG (Passion Fruit, Orange and Guava combo) shave ice was excellent on a hot Hawaii day.

True shaved ice with cool flavors and ice cream. Not clean eating but who cares? It's vacation! Nice owners and a chill vibe.

I got three flavors: piña colada, POG, and some other mystery one that I didn't ask for but ws really good. Highly recommend this place for shaved ice or for food. We bought two shaved ice and it was like $8 for both, I think it was a really fair price because they are really big. I would say share one between two people =] Will be back here if I ever go back to Kauai !! Thanks =]

I had the Piña Colada shaved ice with ice cream on the bottom and sweet cream drizzle on the top and it was excellent!!

I'm not the world's expert on Shave Ice, but this was a pretty good experience. We stopped here on our final day in Kauai, trying to kill time before our flight. The location is right around the corner from Kalapaki Beach. The stand was deserted when we arrived -- a Sunday in early February. My brother ordered a shave ice with ice cream, my wife and I split a bowl of plain old ice. Service was decent and I remember the price being reasonable (for a bowl of flavored ice near a hotel-lined beach, anyway).

Great tasting snow cones, and they are huge, enough for 2 to share. Their acai bowls are delicious. They have great prices. And most of the time there's a line worth waiting for.

This is the best shave ice we've had yet! Nice size, consistency, flavor, and ice cream.

The best shave ice I have tasted on the island :-) the service was friendly and they have a nice selection of flavors. I opted to get the Hawaiian style shaved ice which was Amazing!!! The best $5 I have spent so far.

Found this when we got lost off some random road. It turns out, this place is less than 3 minutes from the airport (and about 1 minute away from the Marriot Resort). Finely shaved ice. It hits the spot when you're craving shave ice but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here.

  • Camille W.

Texture is like you're eating flavored snow, awesome! Nothing like the chopped ice stuff back on the mainland.. Also have the option to add ice cream in the middle.. Yummy!

    (4)
  • Bill S.

Very good shave ice here. Finely shaved, not icy chunks like some places have. I rate this place better than Ono Ono.

I love this like place! There is always friendly staff, great choices and it is right next to a great burger joint. I would give them 5 stars if it didn't cost some much. We went other shave ice places and they cost less and gave you more.

super soft! tons of flavors, over 25. good size portion too, and i think its about 4$, really good with ice cream underneath, they only have vanilla ice cream to choose from. the li hing powder is also an option to sprinkle on top! my favorite is ice cream with watermelon and raspberry flavored shave ice with the li hing on top. (: yum!

Well, I finally got to try the shave ice here. I wasn't going back, but the other option in the area was nowhere in sight and I noticed this place was open, so, I figured, why not, I was there, it was hot, I wanted shave ice! I guess they only cater to the tourists and ship days, though. Bad business, like that. Anyway. After waiting with no one at the window, and me pacing in front of the other windows, only to have to stand there and watch (1) water leak onto a customer's head (from the roof), while he was sitting and waiting for his order; (2) the person at the counter, I'm assuming she was the boss, counting up tips and telling me to wait, then walking away, for what? I dunno? To go pocket the tips?; and then finally when someone came to the shave ice window, (3) ghost ants all over the counter. Sheesh! Shave ice was okay, soft and fluffy as it should be, don't know why everyone is surprised about that, it's standard in Hawaii, unless you go to a kid's fair, then maybe you will get that crushed ice junk. But what they need to do, is to ease up on the syrup. Finding the right amount to pour is not rocket science. If not, then you just end up with a bowl full of straight up syrup and a very costly drink. (Man, I miss the stand at the Coconut Marketplace, they knew how! Where did they go?)

Ice cream inside shaved ice? I realize I'm late to this party... but YUM. We went because they also sell t-shirts, and a friend of mine wanted me to bring one back for her son. (Buy a t-shirt, free shaved ice.) If they weren't waiting for a shipment, I probably would've bought a T for me too - fun designs, and normal pricing. Why not get your vacation shirt with a side of shaved ice?

Softest shave ice yet in the spots I've tried between here, Oahu, and Maui. And I've tried quiet a few! The good looking gentleman who made this shave ice did it with TLC. Ice cream placed perfectly in the middle of the ice and perfect syrup ratio. Delicious flavor. Snow cap on top of course.

The shaved ice is really soft and they have a ton of flavors to choose from. I recommend this spot for some good shaved ice!

I have been to about 11 shave ice places total in Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island. I actually think that this one was pretty good. I got my usual which is melona, blue vanilla, and wedding cake with ice cream and and a snow cap. The shave ice with ice cream cost $5. It was actually one of the more affordable places here. Some of the places here can cost around $10 with add-ons. I didn't get shave ice at the expensive places. So far this is one of my favorites on Kauai. I gave it 4 stars for several reasons. 1. The shave ice texture was really soft and smooth. 2. The flavors of the shave ice syrups were very good. 3. Good portion size. It was one size ($4) and was too big for me to eat by myself. 4. The snow cap (sweetened condensed milk) was free. 5. Ice cream was only $1 extra (some places are 2-3 dollars extra). 6. The woman working there was friendly. 7. It was only a few minute walk from the Marriott where I was staying.

Not cheap, but the vast variety of syrup flavors and the delicate texture of the shaved ice are super good. Super good! I had a mix that included guava. Haven't seen that flavor on Oahu. It was subtle and great.

Located within the Kalapaki Beach Hut, the roadside ambiance isn't the greatest, but the super fine shaved ice and the many flavor selections such as orange dream, pina colada, red velvet and chocolate make up for it. I especially love the sweetened thick condensed milk optional topping; particularly delicious with my favorite flavor, coconut. Parking can be problematic. If the tiny lot is full you can try around back over the bridge. It's worth the walk.

The consistency of the ice was awesome... the flavors we got just tasted too artificial. We got mango (which was my favorite), lychee had no taste, and tigers blood. That tasted so artificial we didn't finish it. We also got a scoop of ice cream at the bottom. The vanilla ice cream just tasted like cheap drug store ice cream :( There are so many other shaved ice places on the island.. no need to stop at this one

We stayed at the Kauai Marriott so stopped by this place almost every day for a refreshing treat. We think the shave ice here is better than Ono Ono Shave Ice in Kapaa or Jo Jo's in Waimea.

By far the worst shave ice we've had on kauai. Total disappointment considering other reviews. The 1 smoothie they offer is also disappointing.

  • Krystal C.

Their shaved ice was as delicious as expected. No surprises here and pretty typical of Hawaiian shaved ice stands in Hawaii. The ice is pretty soft that melts in your mouth, tho I did get some icy chunks. Purely based on softness and texture of ice, Waiola in Oahu is still the clear winner. They offer a ton of flavors to choose from, condense milk (which you should ALWAYS add), and ice cream in the center (also ALWAYS add). The staff is super nice and portions are standard Hawaiian shaved ice size, meaning BIG. Because it is a stand, dont forget, CASH ONLY.

One of the best shaved ice I've had since being in Hawaii. I recommend everybody stop an get them more than one.

Hey hey hey that was pretty good stuff! I've never had shave ice before, and I like how it looked firm like a snow cone but was buttery soft and smooth to the touch. The flavors (pineapple, grape and blue raspberry) worked well together, and the ice had a distinctive creaminess to it that surprised me. The shop looked fairly clean, except the picnic tables outside were all wet and muddy, so don't expect to sit down if you are wearing light colors. The parking sucked, but oh well. Bottom line, I'll be having more of that stuff in the future and I would get it again from here.

My first experience with shave ice was on another Hawaiian Island. It was the stuff of legend. So when I found this tiny place that serves shave ice every bit as good, no wait, better than before, I did the happy dance. If your staying at the Marriott, it's practically next door. If you're in a car, parking can be tricky. It's just a hut so don't be expecting anything by way of decor. On the up side, it' attached to The Burger Hut which serves up a killer breakfast (and good burgers) especially, "The Super". We stayed next door so we went every day of our vacation except one. That day we went to the one featured in "Kauai Revealed". Having had both, I must say I'd rather go to Kalapaki Shave Ice any day of the week Well, how about the next time we vacation there.

Mmm, yummy & creamy! Satisfying! That hit the spot, especially considering I haven't had a chance to try shave ice yet on this island. Two thumbs up for the pineapple and grape flavors, but the raspberry gets a big toe since it is blue and tastes like soap. For a dollar more you can get a scoop of vanilla ice cream at the bottom, the flavor of which seems to radiate upwards into the very molecules of ice and syrup!

I visited Kauai in November 2011. My husband and I tried shave ice at many places all around the island and Kalapaki's had the best. There was a wide range of flavors and the price was comparable to what we paid elsewhere. The place itself is a shack-like structure and you place your order at the window while they make the ice before your eyes. There are a few tables where you can sit, or you can stroll the waterfront and watch the cruise ships dock as you eat.

    (5)
  • Jimmy W.

The shave ice is perfectly powdery. But the flavor syrups were pretty mediocre tasting. They tasted more like artificial flavors rather than real fruit flavors. It's super convenient to Marriott, so if you're desperate for a shave ice fix, then this is your place. But definitely doesn't compare to the places I've been on other islands.

  • Kathryn M.

prices are good. service is slow though since there's only one person working the cashier and making the shaved ice.

    (4)
  • Tamra P.

Good service, decent selection of flavors, fine shaved ice, generous amount of syrup given. Picnic tables were clean which is a huge plus. Not as good as those I've had on Oahu (sorry!) but did the job for today.
