4.5 Stars actually. For those familiar with Richie's that used to be on Umi Street, the food there was always great, with a wide and creative menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We ate there most meals every time we were in Lihue because the food was so good and it was such a good value. The only issue was that the place was hard to find and it was a bit of a hole in the wall. While preparing for this trip, we were upset to learn that it had closed. Such a loss. While dining elsewhere, we found out that Richie moved on to new digs in the Anchor Cove shopping center. Not only is the location a short walk from the Marriott and from the port; but the restaurant is actually quite attractive now. The menu is the same as at Richie's, and they now have great live entertainment too. Richie's 2.0! Having found the place again on Yelp, we were nonetheless reluctant to return based on all the negative reviews (not faulting the food), complaining about the slow and indifferent service. Tonight, we decided to try it anyway and we are so happy we did. The service was friendly, fast and attentive. It was impossible to empty our water glasses before they were refilled and our waitress was great. Complimentary garlic-furikake edamame arrived within a couple of minutes and the rest of our food came just after we finished it. Our waitress checked on us several times, brought the bill promptly when asked and cashed us out quickly. This was on a busy Saturday night. Richie stopped by to say hello and I told him that we almost hadn't come because of the reviews of the service. He said that they had experienced some growing pains and improving service was now a new priority. If tonight was any example, I think they are past those issues. The food was as good as always and the band was awesome.

The menu for sushi is very minimal and the sushi was pretty mediocre. The restaurant was open and airy and the servers were friendly and polite. Just can't say this place had that wow factor, but it wasn't bad at all. The edamame was delicious!

Beers were cold. Bartender was funny and friendly. The sushi was awesome. And the prices were reasonable too.

I have found my new favorite spot for both breakfast and dinner! The macadamia nut pancakes at breakfast are AMAZING! The breakfast sandwiches are also tasty and very reasonably priced. We ate there almost every morning while vacationing in Kauai. If you want some FRESH and TASTY sushi, definitely go here! We are a bit picky when it comes to sushi, but my husband thinks it is the best he has ever had! The owner was super nice and sent us over some complimentary fried rice to go with our meal. We stayed for an acoustic duo that sounded great. Too tired to stay for karaoke since we were on California time, but we had a great time!!

Myself and a small group arrived at 5:25pm. Prior to realising that they opened at 5:30, we walked through the open doors and were immediately scolded by one of the employees who shouted "Not until 5:30! Out out!". We then waited the 5 minutes and then requested to see a menu. When we asked where the dinner menu was the same woman barked "it's in the last page, open your eyes". Only after prying the sticky back page from the cover did we see the menu. The woman then stared at us and said "see". We promptly left and ate dinner at an establishment that was not downright rude to its guests.

Not sure why this place gets such bad reviews - my husband and I went this past week both once for breakfast and once for dinner. The dinner we did was on happy hour - which they have Tuesday's and Wednesday's from 530 to 630. For dinner we were able to get 4 rolls of sushi for half price and an appetizer. All was wonderful - the crab roll is quite spectacular but the rest were delicious as well. The service was right on, we felt very well taken care of. For the breakfast we had the moco loco with kimchee rice and the pancakes with macadamia nut sauce. So good! Both things were amazing. Again the service was great. I can see why some people would be put off by the roosters running around, but while we were there they did their best to keep them out but let's be honest it's the roosters island. Also, there was a pesky fly hovering around us but with a breeze through restaurant like this it's hard for that not to happen. Overall, glad we listened to our guide book which gave bamboo an Ono rating. There's was more on point then most of these reviews and I think it's worth the risk!

Bamboo is conveniently located close to the Marriott resort. The food was ok, but the service was slow (even for island standard). If they increase their wait staff and train them well, this location would be a gem.

We had the breakfast special. Eggs, bacon and mac nut pancakes. Service was fine, got an outside table. Liked the view but it could be better for sure. For breakfast, it is perfectly fine. I assume other times of day are not so good given all the hate on the service but we had fun and left full.

Had sushi, siamin, and calamari. All were good with big portions. Service was decent and band was good. A little warm inside and place could use some updating.

Been here my last 3 visits to Lihue. Always such great service and awesome grind! Will try for happy hour though. Next time.

The food was awesome . Service was slow , you might as well order 2 wines since it takes a long time . Server was not friendly at all, but the great food made up for it.

Stayed at the Marriott, and got up early for a walk, we stumbled on this place for a breakfast sandwich. Home-style sandwich that hit the spot with incredible customer service. Brought us coffees to go after we paid our bill! Ate outside with two small children, eat views, and very comfortable ambiance.

Service was friendly and quick. Food was good. Kim chee fried saimin and ginger chicken was delicious. Sushi was decent. Would definitely go back.

No so impressed....went for breakfast. Sat down and ordered and as we were waiting for our meal someone came out of the kitchen that made me wonder about our meal. He looked like me needed a long scrub down cloths were dirty. Hair all over the place. When my meal arrived it was wrong and there solution to fix it was to bring me the pineapple that went inside it on the side at no charge. Oh and I forgot to mention that when the meal come so did the flies. So many that it was difficult to enjoy my breakfast. I will not be returning

Great breakfast sandwich and great price at $5! However, service was slow. Only 2 other tables and service was very slow.

Glad we had lunch here b4 heading back to our ship! The mango mojito was refreshing and very good. Kevin ordered the kalua pig with rice and I ordered the roast pork saimin. Both menu items were superb! The 4 star rating because service was a bit slow....guess that's how they roll in Hawaii, lol..... I would recommend this place for sure :-)

I have never been angrier and disappointed when leaving a restaurant. Horrible service food etc, fought with the flies for our meal. Waited and waited for our check only table? When I brought up my disappointments the wise server said everybody loves the place. Again only table.

We had the sushi roll (dynamite) and saimin with teri-chicken. They were surprisingly good.

4 stars for the pancakes, minus three stars for the snotty attitude of the server and slow service. I wanted a banana and mac nut pancake fix before we left, and I didn't want to pay $18 at the Marriott, so we walked down to Bamboo's. I had read the reviews and knew it would be slow, but I did not expect the attitude. Restaurant was a little more than 1/2 full when we arrived (note for later). My table of 3 and another table of 2 sat down simultaneously, our orders were taken within minutes of each other. My son asked if the pancakes had the fruit mixed in the batter or if the fruit was just on top - I guess you shouldn't ask that question based on the irritation in having to answer that our server displayed. Their order came in about 10 minutes - finished eating, got their check, paid, left, table bussed; our food had still not arrived. After waiting 40 minutes I flagged our server down and asked if our order had been lost. She told me that a bunch of tables sat at the same time (note from earlier - roughly 1/2 full) and that the kitchen was working them off one at a time. I pointed out that the table next to us that had ordered at the same time had already eaten and left - this made her more irritated, she turned to leave and our food came out of the kitchen. In a snotty tone she pointed out that there was our food. Pancakes were good - my wife's egg sandwich was cold, the slice of cheese lying there like it had just been unwrapped. We didn't dare send it back because the lunch rush could have hit at any time and we might never have seen it back. Just to be clear, I'm ok with a slow kitchen (I understand that I am on an island) if the server is apologetic, or stops back frequently to check on us or update status (she never came by). A friendly server can overcome a lot, sadly this one did not.

I think da food is awesome!.Poke is good!Great location,Great selection of dishes,Portions are good,N breakfast is really good also..But twice I've been there I requested a dish n they ran out..But,What you expect as 1 hot item...

  • Adam R.

The food was sub-mediocre. And the service made it just THAT much worst. We literally waited 15 minutes for plates and another 10 to pay. Won't come back here nor recommend this to anyone on Kauai.

Good breakfast. Friendly service. Solid food...French toast was the star. Coconut syrup...wow!

  • Cassie C.

The macadamia nut pancakes are amazing! This place is a great option for breakfast for those staying at the Marriott and want a price break. The view was great, the food was yummy, and they kept the coffee coming. Couldn't ask for more!

Awesome place! We're pretty much becoming regulars here. I've been hooked on the Bamboo chicken & shrimp combo and finally decided to come in for breakfast. The Mac Nut pancakes are delicious! A little on the thick side but I enjoyed them. We also had the omelette your way. We kept it simple with cheese, (which comes included) spam, link sausage, and Portuguese sausage. Hashbrown as our starch and they even nailed that too! Crispy edges and just plain out perfect! Will definitely be back again! Just be prepared that u might have to fight off the flies...

    (5)
  • Seanessy G.

Amazing macadamia nut pancakes and Portuguese sausage. Tasty, tasty, tasty. A bit pricey and the servers seem standoffish and unhappy to see us. I liked the outdoor seating views. Tip to budgeters : there's a nice tasty breakfast sandwich for $4.99 also!

    (4)
  • Mike B.

Spicy tuna roll best I've had. Made me wish we ordered the poke. Not a fan of fried food so we were initially turned off by the Korean spicy chicken but the flavor was indeed great. Firecracker won tons came out AFTER our dinner which was disappointing but they to tasted great. I don't think you'll be disappointed and you'll save a few bucks.

  • Lyrical E.

Thought the neg reviews were wrong but they kinda were right. 3 stars is being nice. Slow. Unbussed tables. They recommended the pork so we got it only for them to tell us they were out. Didn't look at us so we had to wave the lady down to pay our bill. Told us the plate was gonna be huge but it wasn't so $21 for a small plate wasn't that great of a deal. Asked for Brown rice, gave us white. Waited a long time.

  • Sue C.

I would give a 5 but no alcohol for outside seating and indoor seating was a bit dark and divey. Service was quick and friendly. We had a great breakfast very simple tasty breakfast sandwiches and great pancakes all generous servings and low prices. The Bloody Mary was one of the best and even had bacon draped over it. If we had stayed nearby this would have been a staple stop but we were headed to the airport.

  • Camille W.

If I could rate their breakfast alone, 5 stars hands down. Some of the best pancakes my husband and I have ever eaten! We went back twice for breakfast and got the creamy macadamia nut and banana foster pancakes. We just split one order of them and still couldn't finish them they were so big! However we went back for sushi in the evening and received very very poor service. it took 30 minutes just to have a server come to us and then another hour just to get two sushi rolls. The sushi itself wasn't even that good! It was average quality. The happy hour price was nice so it weren't for that I would have felt completely ripped off. All in all, breakfast here is a winner. Dinner - not so much.

So all the reviews about horrible service have been confirmed. We sat down to order and was told that the Korean Chicken was not available. No problem. We ordered one pork saimin, a fried noodles and the Lychee ribs. There was one other group in the whole place at the time. 45 minutes later, the pork saimin comes out, 5 minutes later, the waitress comes back to the table to inform me that the ribs are not available! REALLY?! Couldn't have figured that out earlier?! So I order the teriyaki steak and in the meantime, the fried noodles come out. 15 minutes later I get the teri steak that was mostly fat! NEVER AGAIN! You have been warned. Its beyond just bad service.

Breakfast was very good- pancakes and French toast were yummy and the chicken cutlet moco was excellent. Waitress was very friendly and service good. I would recommend the place-

Mediocre sushi, poor service (since they seat more tables than they can handle) and overpriced! Would definitely NOT recommend.... Unless you're happy to wait and it's their happy hour.

I would give the breakfast here and good rating. The taro bun breakfast sandwich was great and a good price. You walk in and seat yourself it isnt fancy what so ever. It's a nice hawaii atmosphere. Like most of Hawaii, locals are treated better than native hawaiians. I wish that they would realize their small businesses wouldnt survive without tourist's dollars. The service in this restaurant is lacking. I ate, never had any attention to ask if my food was good. They give you a nice cup of water before your meal. The wait staff also lacks manners, i havent heard a thank you since i walked in the place. I'll come back because there isnt much around the Marriott, and the Marriott food is way too expensive. 3 stars, because the food is good.

Wonderful understated eatery. In Kauai the quality of the food is often in direct contrast to the food. The Bamboo Grill had no decor but the food we had was perfect. Chicken Teriyaki tender and juicy in a subtle sauce not too sweet or salty. And BROWN rice! Small fresh salad, crunchy romaine. The Saimin noodle soup was right u there with the best of them. And the edamame are seasoned with olive oil, sesame, garlic and salt. A different tasty experience. Breakfast also really good, fluffy pancakes, eggs and CRISPY bacon. Only drawback - no real maple syrup.

Wow one of the slowest service and out of 8 orders only one they got right after one and half HOUR

  • Kanoe I.

Came here for breakfast.. read couple reviews from yelp while heading here and saw that the service was slow..but still decided to try it out. I had an hour before I had to catch my flight.. there were only a few others there besides my boyfriend and I.. and service was definitely slow. We ordered the french toast with eggs and hash browns. . & Blueberry and banana pancakes with bacon and eggs.. The french toast and pancakes were delicious.. but the others were eh.. . The hash browns seemed too crunchy and oily.. the bacon was overly cooked to my liking .. seemed burnt.. and the eggs were blah. I love eatting out to places hoping they can make better food then me.. lol it just sucks paying over priced for a so so meal.

The food here is good, but definitely over priced. The service is pretty terrible, and the servers stand in the corner chatting the whole time (we had to go to them and ask for silverware, soy sauce, and the check.) Crab sushi roll, Korean Chicken, and the crab stuffed Salmon all are wonderful choices.

QUICK REVIEW No descriptions of food on menu. Order was wrong. Food overcooked. Overpriced for quality. Chicken crap all over floor. DETAILED REVIEW: Went with family for lunch. Chickens were roaming the restaurant freely and also used it to relieve themselves freely. My daughter ordered spam n eggs and when order came out she had an omelette on the plate, two fried eggs, and no spam. We sent it back. It took awhile for them to replace the omelette with the 2 slices of spam, long enough for food to be cold. I ordered the korean spicy chicken and my mom ordered the ginger chicken...both were deep fried, overly deep fried to a dark dark brown and the only difference was the ginger chicken had bones. These two plates were each over $12...KFC wouldve been better. Wont be going back.

Wow, people have been way too harsh on this place. We thought the breakfast was fantastic!!! If you read the reviews they mostly complain about slow service. Folks, you do realize you are on the Hawaiian islands don't you?! The service was just fine for us.

  • Derek C.

We stayed at Marriott and stumbled on this gem! The manager and service was always welcoming and top rate. Whatever we had there was delicious especially breakfast. My wife loved the fried rice omelet and gravy. The macadamia nut pancakes were in the top 5 for best things I ever ate...and I love food!

  • Melody L.

Great dinner - the sushi was sushi, I had the spicy tuna roll and others had the kauai roll, but what were really excellent were the local kine foods. I had the spicy korean chicken (was in the mood for fried chicken after seeing all the free roaming roosters). Best korean chicken I've had in the islands! My mom and grandma had noodle dishes and they were apparently phenomenal. I don't understand the bad reviews, service may have been a little slow for some but I thought it was just fine. Also they were giving out complimentary edamame for the wait (which was also seasoned fantastically!). This was a great place for us O'ahu locals who came to Kauai for a Kama'aina vacation, I highly recommend it. We will be coming back while we are here for breakfast and lunch too.

The main thing to note here is, the portions are HUGE. As in, a single order of fried saimen can feed a couple. It is also tasty. Quality does not exceed quantity, but it is very good. The lechon kauai is especially wonderful, with crisp-skin pork in a salad of mainly onions and fresh cabbage. Sashimi is very generous and the yellow tail was great. The fried saimon was savory, salty, and enormous. Nice people, good experience. Hard to go wrong here.

  • Nick I.

Decent overpriced breakfast with terrible service. Sat down for breakfast at the same time as another table when there were maybe 5 tables full. It took nearly 40 minutes for half of our order to come out. The other table had eaten and left before we even got our first dish, and then it took another 20 minutes to get the other dish. The coffee was burned and the waitress never came back to let us know if the other half of the order was even coming. When it finally came that was the last we saw of any staff and had to hunt someone down to even pay for our meal. The pancakes and loco were good, but $15 a plate was a bit much for breakfast and the service we got.

We were in the mood for some sushi but it was already 9pm on a Friday night. And we all know that everything closes at 8pm on Kauai. Fortunately for Yelp, we had abt 20 mins to spare for some sushi. We've been there before and thought it was decent...sushi's pretty good. The server brought some complementary edamame which smelled garlicky-divine! And I have to say, it certainly was tasty! It has salt, Garlic, and fukakaki (sp?)- super tasty! Come to think of it, last time we were there it was a HUGE bowl of edamame - this time it was abt half. Anyway it was a good start. We ordered the Ebi (shrimp) Tempura roll ($8), and the Crab Lava roll ($18). The serving size was perfect for me and my husband, plus the edamame-yum! Oh my, you gotta try the Crab Lava Roll- they serve it with drawn butter - BOY! Delicious! Hubby and I were stuffed. Only problem was that the service was SLOW! And it took forever for the server to refill water...I even saw another person stand up with his empty glass to ask for more water. Yes, don't plan on going there if you're in a rush. Karaoke singer was pretty good.

This was a great find within easy walking from the marriott, Tommy the bartender was a joy to talk with and to get some local tips. Family atmosphere with great food. All the sushi was fresh and good. Gem outputs pours and a great band the night we were there. We also enjoyed s great breakfast a must try is the macadamia nut pancakes.

Oh my goodness, this place is FABULOUS!!! I went with my mom and three brothers; we had the Crab Topped Muscles and the Garlic and Furokake Edamame to start. The muscles were delicious; perfectly cooked with great portions of crab and breading on top. The edamame was ADDICTIVE, so delicious and such a huge bowl, the five of us only got through half. I had the Saimine for dinner, it was delicious and HUGE, the broth was perfect and there were enough noodles, vegetables and egg to be very full by the end. My mom and brothers had the Shrimp Tempura, Teriyaki Steak, and the Chicken Katsu. None of us could help from sharing bites of each others dinners! To top it off the staff was fantastic, so friendly and attentive. My mom and I also had some AWESOME lychee mojitos (at the suggestion of the bartender). We're sad to be leaving Kauai so soon because we would definitely come back!!!

Great little hole in the wall. We had the spicy Korean chicken and fried salmon, both were delicious. The complimentary edamame was excellent as well. They have a great happy hour as well!

Gross. Only came here because it was like the only place open on a damn Sunday. The food sucks here. Dirty tables and had a weird smell. And plastic water cups? Seriously???!! I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Had my First time Sushi here last Friday night. First let me say, if it takes a while to get my order, and it's as fresh and yummy as it was then, I'll be Back! Our Cocktails were Ono! I had the Strawberry Cosmo, very tasty, but next time it will be the Watermelon Mojito, (got to sample my Friends) Crazy good! I can't wait to go back a have Sushi again....I think i'm hooked!

  • David I.

The food was good but served one plate at a time, up to 20 minutes apart. We had to send the ribs back for being cold and the fried saimin only contained egg and cabbage. The teriyaki chicken that the kids ordered came last, an hour after we ordered. They ended up taking it to go since we had to all share our food with them while we waited. One of our orders was forgotten and never arrived. Ruined our family night out and put us all in a bad mood. Too bad because the food was good. Advice: eat before you arrive so that you'll be hungry by the time you're served.

My husband and I went to the bamboo for breakfast before our helicopter tour. Breakfast portions were large, but pricy. I ordered an omelette (nothing special) and my husband been ordered the loco moco, which is a local dish. Overall, I think food was good, but may not be the best place to go for an exceptional dining experience.

Went here for the first time today for breakfast. It's a good size location in anchor cove and was really looking forward for some Ono food. My family and I walked in and it had a good vibe. We sat ourselves and waited a brief moment before getting greeted and given menus. We arrived around 10 and breakfast is served until 12 so we were very happy about that. After looking over the menu we all had in mind what we wanted. Omelets! Unfortunately, they didn't have any link sausages or mushrooms. Disappointed considering that's something everyone in my family enjoys we decided to try other items. Our food took 35 minutes to come out, and there was an order of bacon that was forgotten but came out quickly. The food tasted okay, nothing special or out of the ordinary. Our waiter checked up on us often but only came to refill our coffee, but not water. We asked for the usual condiments ketchup and tobasco but we were give an empty bottle of tobasco and a half used bottle of ketchup...as we watched other tables they also got the same. The place started to pick up as we were there and there were some other tables that didn't get to order and unfortunately one group actually left. I felt bad for that group because it was not too busy that it was an easy mistake but it looked as if they were being ignored. The waiter there seemed to be working hard to attend to many of the duties and had a great, friendly personality but the waitress seemed to pick and choose who she wanted to attend too and didn't seen that interested in helping out some of the tables who were waiting for service. Overall, it was a okay experience, but we will not be returning again.

We had breakfast at Bamboo's. We had the Pancake with Macadamia Sauce and the corned beef hash moco. The food was okay, the sauce on the pancake was too sweet, we scraped off the sauce and the pancake was actually decent. The corned beef hash was less than a quarter inch thick, gravy was decent. For the prices they charge ($15 for the pancake) I expect excellent service and nice ambience. The one star is for the poor service and bad attitude of the staff. It's a shame because the view from the restaurant is nice and the food is not terrible- just way over priced and the clincher is the poor service. We will not try it again and I do not recommend it. Go to Joe's On the Green or even Kountry Kitchen where you'll be treated with respect!

Came here looking for sushi at lunch time. They don't serve it til dinner but the guy who seated us said order some Poki (raw Ahi with other amazing ingredients) it wasn't on the menu but they totally took care of us. This was the best lunch of our 6 day stay next door. If you are in a hurry go to Dukes they have the best fish tacos ever. We are coming back here tonight for some Sushi....love this place. And the service was excellent.

Ehhh not terrible, little over priced. Definitely better places on the island but if you're staying the kauai marriot without a car and have a sushi craving this place will due. If you do have a car there's a bunch Of better places.

This looked like a dive straight off of restaurant impossible. We went here based on the good reviews on yelp, after first trying to walk into nearby Portofino and the sushi restaurant in the Marriott resort (both had a multiple hour wait). The bartender must have been stoned based on the length of time it took to get our beer orders. The smell in the restaurant overall was of rotten eggs. The ambiance was depressing. There was a stage for karaoke and the couch looked like it was found in the dumpster (it was noticeably ripped). The women's bathroom didn't have soap, despite being under lock and key. The men's restaurant had water all over the floor like someone had taken a bird bath. Did I mention that you had to use a key attached to a sandal to use the bathroom (not sanitary)? The menus were not wiped down and mine had a hair on it (I didn't complain because I wanted to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt and I didn't want to alarm the other members of my party.) My wife's order came out incorrectly (it was saimin, not udon noodles), and right as she was about to take a bite, the waitress asked her if she had touched it yet. The waitress then proceeded to take the dish to the back (presumably to give to the other customer). There were many dishes that had salmon as an ingredient... though they were out of salmon. The edamame that they brought out tasted spoiled. The food took at least an hour to come out. The bento boxes that the others in my party ordered were acceptable, but my sushi didn't taste fresh. I hope the management sees this and makes some drastic changes, because the wait staff were nice and enthusiastic despite what they were up against.

One of my absolute favorite restaurants on Kauai. The corned beef hash moco is a meal I find myself craving weekly. I can't say enough great things about this dish! The hash, the gravy... All of it! The atmosphere is quiet with an ocean view. They do close at 2:30 for a break between lunch and dinner so be sure to remember that upon arrival. Wait staff is friendly. Service is fast. All in all it's a wonderful spot for local food and sushi. Also, the reviews aren't kidding, the breakfast is probably one of the best on island as well.

I would give this no stars if I could.. Poor service and cold food.. We were not offered the coconut syrup for our pancakes.. The wait to receive our food was way too long.. We will not be returning.

Food was okay. Went here before we left the island. If you come here don't be in a hurry I got the pancake and eggs and my wife got the breakfast sandwich. Nothing to write home about. Can't screw up breakfast unless you serve it cold, which they didn't. Service could have been a little quicker though

I have been here several times but I won't be going back. Two employed sitting at table folding napkins. Not busy. Waited and waited for menus. Wanted a beer but had to wait for server because busser was too young. Another party walks in and is given menus immediately. We still have no menus so we left. I ways try and support local businesses but I was disrespected. Epic fail.

My new island favorite (and I live here!). Great blend of basics and fancy meals. You won't spend a fortune but your taste buds will think so...

Went here for dinner because I see pics on FB and IG that look so delish! When we walked in it was a total ghost town--- now I know why! The food was NOTHING special, especially for the prices they sell for... I could've whipped up way better tasting food than what was served. The sushi tasted like mayo--- and was $18 for about 8 pcs. You can go to Kintaros for about $12 a whole roll. So disappointing, I don't think they'll be open very long .

Worst sushi and service I have ever had. The fish was old and over priced. The drinks were so bad we did not finish them, tasted like syrup. There was no one in the whole place and the appetizers came out after the meals were served, it took almost 20 mins for the drinks. The lady that helped us seemed like she did not know shit about the menu. Hands down the worst food I had in kauai.

Teri Saimin & Roasted Pork Saimin is outstanding! Very friendly and attentive wait staff. Not sure why people posted the opposite.

Poor service. After half way done of finishing my meal, that is when the waitress told me that they are out of the appetizer that i ordered. Took us 45 minutes to get our food. The food is not that great for the price. Sorry... Posted the wrong picture.

We had such high hopes... the reviews and cravings for sushi were dashed when the waitress told us that they were "out of sushi" ... We should have left right then. Without dragging this review on and on, the waitress saw us twice the whole meal, the food we had made us feel sick the rest of the night, and it was more expensive than duke's barefoot bar right next door. Save your money for better places.

  • Lydia S.

Went for lunch because the hubby and I wanted sushi! No sushi at lunch. We were the only people there, which was nice. Food was ok (the fire cracker won tons were killer) but the waitress brought our bill with our food and came back to ask if we were "done with the bill" before we were half way through eating!! Can we eat first?? Apparently they close at 2 until dinner (which wasn't listed online that I saw) so when we went to leave they had blockaded all the doors with tables and chairs we had to squeeze past. So decent food, sub par service, nothing to write home about

We went in here and noticed a weird smell from behind the bar. Should have known when there was only 2 people eating there at 6:30 where other nearby places are 50+ patrons. I believe smell was "raid" bug spray. When you are ordering sushi, not what you want. We left without ordering. Too many bad signs of not safe

This place is set in a charming off to the side part of Anchor Cove in Lihue. Everything was served in good time, the waitress was super nice friendly. They made a good red sangria. Very comfortable laid back environment oceanside. Rockin 80s music.

If yelp had a no star option I would have chosen that. This restaurant has horrible customer service, they can't even sit you down in your table, or ask if you need anything else with your meal. The server girl put up an argument with me when she got my order wrong then didn't bother to come back to our table to rest of the night. Just a bad negative vibe in general. Definitely would not recommend this place, go to Kintaro's or somewhere else instead where the people actually care about the customers.

Breakfast- very laid back and casual. Had the eggs and spam. Great! I actually love spam and they fry it up like bacon! Yum. Good food and good service.

So we came here on recommendation of the car rental local lady. I think she was trying to promote it. We came here for breakfast. Food I had pineapple pancakes which was pretty good. They have a good variety of pancakes, i wish they'd let you mix and match without charging extra, or have an option of smaller pancakes. Portion size was huge. They were out of french toast by 10am. Other breakfast food was average.. No fresh juices, not even lemonade. Service Friendly, but very slow. They have enough spots but don't appear to be staffed for it. We tried to add something to our order and she said it will take a good long time, i think she wanted to seat other people who were in line who were waiting for outside seating. Location If your seated outside its cool. Nice view. You park in the mall and walk around coz this faces the water. Pricing For the service and quality of food id say its a lil high. But maybe ok for the portions they serve. Did we go back - nope. I heard they have live music certain nights and an extensive sushi menu.

Great breakfast, fast and continuous service, great view! My wife and I had been craving a big breakfast, and were not let down here. Banana pancakes were incredible and sweet Hawaiian bread french toast was mouth-watering. The service was nonstop and we felt very well taken care of. We look forward to going here again.

Had dinner service was very slow. Sushi took a while to come. A dinner plate was forgotten. When asked about the dish the waitress disappeared and never came back. The steak was tasty but the teriyaki chicken we waited for had no taste. Requested for water and saucer for wasabi. Items never brought. Need to ask for kamaaina discount.

Walking distance from the Marriot, excellent restaurant in plaza completely hidden by JJ's Broiler. You can actually go through ABC store side - ask ABC where Bamboo is Bought a rainbow roll that was beautifully presented and fish was so fresh! Lady told us to come back for breakfast because they serve the BEST banana pancakes in all of Kauai. Next morning we went straight to Bamboo. Ordered the eggs, Portuguese sausages and kimchi fried rice along with banana and blueberry pancakes. OMG - It was officially the BEST breakfast in all of my 6 days in Kauai. We went to Kountry Kitchen the day before that was on our recommended list but they couldn't even come CLOSE to Bamboo's food. The Portuguese sausages were to die for and kimchi fried rice so perfectly blended and the eggs were PERFECT. And of course, the banana and blueberry pancakes indeed were TO DIE FOR. The fresh coconut syrup made daily was literally the icing on the cake!! AMAZING!! Barbara's coconut syrup is actually sold in powder form at the ABC store next door. I went and got 3! Rye and Barbara are so sweet. They really cook their food with LOVE!! Thank you! They also have a TV so if there's a football game, it's probably on!

Stayed at the Marriott and had breakfast here. Amazing and a great price. Richie the owner was awesome to the customers making sure everyone had what they needed. Service is slower here, so be prepared. With that said, I found service is always slow in Hawaii. I also went back and tried the sushi. Fresh, Fresh, Fresh.

We ordered an appetizer and two meals. We were the only people in the restaurant. A couple walked in after us and got their meals at the same time as ours...no appetizer. We asked our waitress about it and she said that the chef makes the appetizers at the same time as the meals. The truth was she had forgotten it and when we were almost done with our meals when we told her to forget the calamari, because it still had not come. It was apparent the owners were there sitting in a table and they walked in way after us and got their food way before us, they went back to see what the issue was. The nice thing would of been to bring out the calamari regardless because of her lying to is about it but nope. The owners did nothing and no one apologized. The food was okay. Not going back there. Also no sushi until 5:30!

Two visits to this place and I can't complain. Except maybe that the first visit I ordered too much. But, the leftovers were good and the service was excellent. Definitely do yourself a favor and get the egg drop soup! Very hot, but very good and is not your typical run-of-the-mill egg drop soup! Freshly cracked egg in a tasty broth makes for a delicious treat!

  • Tony R.

Richie is (usually) there, making Sushi AFTER 5:30pm. Same menu as the restaurant formerly known as Richies (Restaurant 2978 ), so it is the NEW home for the Famous Oki Pancakes, plus our favorites Fried Udon, and Fried Saimin ( and the Sushi of course), and the melt in your mouth Ribs too! The Breakfast and Lunch Menu's have something for everyone, much better locale than the former out of the way Lihue location. Usually, parking is not a problem ( street parking is available should the Anchor Cove lot be full). They are still working out some kinks, so, like 85% of the restaurants on Kauai, service may be on the slow side, and not as attentive as it should be, but it's local style food at it's best. So glad we saw Richie at Kmart...we lost touch when Richies closed..told us about the new digs...so we have our favorites to grind once again. Yes, they may be out of certain things on the menu...but...hey...you're (almost) on the beach...relax and have some Saki, and edamame as an appetizer, while waiting for Richie's sushi creations ( AFTER 5;30 PM). I'll bump da rating to 5 stars as soon as the kinks are worked out.

Spam and eggs. Perfectly satisfying. Just what I needed. We sat outside watching the beach, service was great. My husband had a omelette that was also wonderful.

Shrimp tempura roll was excellent. Chicken teriyaki meal was on although the chicken wasn't the best quality. Service was pretty slow in general even though it wasn't very busy.

Stay away. Completely awful food and slow service. The best thing I can say is that our soft drinks were refilled.

  • Kelcie M.

This place is a little pricey for the quality of food that they serve. Maybe I would give this place more stars if it were cheaper. The sushi wasn't horrible, but it wasn't the bomb either...it was alright/so-so. The watermelon mojito was ono and I def recommend it. The food is not consistent here. I once had the mushroom appetizer and I thought it was great with the bacon and butter. The second time I had it...it was so salty. I usually like my food on the more savory side but damn...it was even too much for me. My friend Tori said her hands were swollen and she couldn't take off her rings. Nonetheless, eating all that salt helps you drink more beers;)

  • Chuck M.

First here and won't be the last! The food is awesome. We had the Calamari and the Saute'd Mushrooms as appetizers. By far the best We've ever had and the portion size was generous! We also had 2 sushi rolls - also awesome. Service was a little slower than some places, BUT, this is Kauai and I'm on vacation. The atmosphere was conducive to enjoying yourself!

  • Randy B.

Not the place to get breakfast in Kauai! During a week of amazing food and good times, this was one of the few low spots. We popped in for a quick breakfast and left fairly disappointed. The pancakes were ok, but the rest of the meal and service wasn't great. I guess if you are really trying to save money, maybe this is an ok spot, but we had much better breakfasts and service all over the island.

    (2)
  • Daniel G.

We had to ask for the sushi menu, but the sushi was good. The garden roll was good but nothing to write home about. The loco moco gravy was from a can which took away from the whole plate. The garlic fries were heavy on the garlic, which I guess is good for some. It was pretty much bar food but with a side of sushi. Not bad for where it was located though. I just wouldn't make a special trip for it.

    (3)
  • Peter H.

Service was great. (4 star service) But you shouldn't call your restaurant a grill and sushi if you only offer sushi after 5:30 PM.. (Very disappointed) Next , they were out of steak, so no cheesesteak sandwhich or steak nachos. The soda was extremely flat, but the waitress was nice and very apologetic for only being able to offer only about half the menu. I wouldn't recommend nor would I ever eat there again.

    (1)
  • Brie M.

Breakfast sandwich was ok. Eggs were terrible. There was some horrible man in the restaurant, apparently related to a waitress, who was cussing about his food and ordering her around the whole time. It got to the point where he actually called her on the phone because he didn't get what he wanted immediately. What a gigantic a**hole. Definitely won't come back here. Even if the food had been decent, the atmosphere was horrendous.

  • Marin Z.

Do not go to this place the service is awful even at the bar. Female bartender with long purple hair didn't greet us, service was horrible, had to ask for water refill when we were the only customers at the bar, staff had irritated attitude. The staff was eating and walking around the restaurant with food in hand. The owner needs to hire some staff that actually care about customer service because this place may do well considering the sushi is decent, sushi chef keeping them alive.

    (1)
  • Reed A.

Sushi was over priced for the quality/construction. Sushi and cheese are not a good combination. Maybe the regular entrees are better?

    (2)
  • Michelle C.

Had the pupu steak plate "famous" so tough and over priced. Mahealani had Teri chicken, it was great. Plantation tea tasted like instant with hardly any pineapple juice.

  • Myron H.

In a word, yuck! High chair we requested was the nastiest things I've ever encountered. Should have left then.Good thing we always bring a high chair cover. Vegetable tempura only had mushroom, broccoli and onion and left a lot to be desired. Flat Pepsi was served after I asked for a coke. Poke tasted off and Korean chicken was way too sweet and nothing else. The waitress was nice though. She gets the only star I'll give to this place.

  • JadeFlower B.

5 stars is for the server (didnt catch your name)that took care of our table and the rest of the restaurant all by herself. I give you credit, even with our difficult party she took care of us and continue smiling, once our small restaurant opens, I would love to have you come check it out. Good job and great food Bamboo grill and sushi

Wow. If you are not a local in kauai, be prepared to get treated like crap. If this place could get 0 stars Id give it to them. We ordered 3 rolls and sashimi and after 45 minutes of waiting we decided to get our bill and leave. There we 3 other tables in the restaurant who showed up 15 minutes after us (all locals) and got their COOKED food right away. We asked why they got their food first and our snooty waitress told us that there is a kitchen and a sushi bar, and that is why it has been 35 minutes to get our uncooked fish. She brought us a roll that we didn't order, and said "the rolls will come out slowly but surely." Really? THAT is what you say to your customers? You bring it all at once. We told her we ordered unagi and she had no idea what that was, had to look at the menu. Welcome to the food industry jack. Even though one of the tables ordered sushi, an got it before us!! Its raw fish people, how long does it take to roll some d*mn sushi! Or better yet, slice sashimi! Sh*t for $20 a roll, ILL go back there and do it. Our host told us to "try and be patient" when we asked where our food was. Show some respect to your customers girl, your like 16. Our drinks were short poured, my "mai tai" was all juice. Not only would I never come back here, Id go out of my way to tell people not to go here. No wonder why every day when I walk past here its dead. Idiots.

Conveniently located near our resort, we decided to check out breakfast at the Bamboo Grille. If the waitress says try the banana pancakes, listen to her! Mac nut ones were dry, and the coconut syrup thicker than we were accustomed to seeing. The white gravy for loco moco was not as enjoyable as brown gravy at other places. We'd give them another shot for sushi or lunch. Good wait staff, very attentive.

    (3)
  • Christopher F.

Would be a 4 or 5 star review. Everything is on point service ambiance etc. but waiting for an hour for two rolls is not something I'm ok with.

    (3)
  • Lee M.

I think they just opened yesterday..wasn't too crowded when we went. Bamboo Grill is steps from the beach and the Marriot, nice relaxed atmosphere and a good group of waiters/satff. The food was delish!

  • Eric And Jennifer R.

Great location with ocean front patio seating. Service was SLOW! You will wait at least 10-15 minutes before getting water then another 10 minutes to get your order in. We ordered the Korean chicken. It was good but not the typical style of Korean chicken wings and drumstick. It was boneless and could use less batter. However it had a good crunch.

My friends and I had a great lunch here. The servers were very attentive and nice. We had the kimchi fried rice and fried chicken among others. It's a simple establishment with yummy food. Check it out for a good meal!

Went in for dinner on a Monday around 8:15p, it was near empty so there wasn't a wait. The service was good, the prices were good, the portion size was great and the quality was okay. Nothing really jumped out as amazing so i can't give 5 stars. We had the Eternal Sunshine, Rainbow and Fried Saimin. The staff was really nice and even allowed an alteration to the items due to my wives gluten allergy.

Amazing meal-- but even better is the service and personality. Richie is a great local business man who gave us a phenomenal meal, but also great advice on places to go during our trip. If you want great sushi, or just need a break from hotel food/scene go see the great folks at bamboo!

    (5)
  • Ryan P.

This place was amazing. We actually ate here for dinner and then we went back for breakfast. The banana pancakes were the best we have ever had. The owner let us sample several menu items and the experience was awesome. The edumame is also a must. You have to check out Bamboo.

This place serves sushi only for dinner which starts at 5.30 pm. We came to this place at 6.50pm and were seated immediately. If you choose to sit outside then you cannot drink alcohol. When we ordered sushi the waiter advised us that the waiting time will be 20 minutes since the person who is making the sushi is busy. This was fine with us and we ordered 4 different sushi. Each sushi roll is 8 pieces. 35 minutes later our waiter brought us our first roll of sushi, the second roll was brought after additional 20 minutes. We canceled our two additional rolls of sushi since we already spent an hour and they were extremely slow. This would have been fine if the waiter would have advised us of the waiting time. Since we were on vacation we were not in a hurry but we found the staff being inconsiderate. If we would have been advised of the waiting time of each roll we would have chosen different meal. On the positive side the sushi was good, we ordered eternal sunshine and rainbow and both were good. If you only care about the food and don't mind waiting an hour for two rolls of sushi then i would say go to this place but if you do like the courteous and professional service then you will not get that at this place. There is plenty of parking at the plaza and very close to Marriott.

  • Ashley W.

The menu for sushi is very minimal and the sushi was pretty mediocre. The restaurant was open and airy and the servers were friendly and polite. Just can't say this place had that wow factor, but it wasn't bad at all. The edamame was delicious!

  • John B.

The food was sub-mediocre. And the service made it just THAT much worst. We literally waited 15 minutes for plates and another 10 to pay. Won't come back here nor recommend this to anyone on Kauai.

  • Earl H.

I would give this no stars if I could.. Poor service and cold food.. We were not offered the coconut syrup for our pancakes.. The wait to receive our food was way too long.. We will not be returning.

  • Ryan S.

Food was okay. Went here before we left the island. If you come here don't be in a hurry I got the pancake and eggs and my wife got the breakfast sandwich. Nothing to write home about. Can't screw up breakfast unless you serve it cold, which they didn't. Service could have been a little quicker though

  • Mohala C.

Epic fail.

  • Abe F.

    (1)

  • Russell P.

Sushi was over priced for the quality/construction. Sushi and cheese are not a good combination. Maybe the regular entrees are better?

Had the pupu steak plate "famous" so tough and over priced. Mahealani had Teri chicken, it was great. Plantation tea tasted like instant with hardly any pineapple juice.

Would be a 4 or 5 star review. Everything is on point service ambiance etc. but waiting for an hour for two rolls is not something I'm ok with.

I think they just opened yesterday..wasn't too crowded when we went. Bamboo Grill is steps from the beach and the Marriot, nice relaxed atmosphere and a good group of waiters/satff. The food was delish!
