Good food and good service. It's a small place with a small crew and they are just laid back.

Great Mexican food. Almost best meal I've had since I've been to Maui. Very close to what I can get at home. Great food, reasonable price and good service.

This place sucks small portions I had to ask for chips and salsa margaritas we're week I would have had a better time celebrating Cinco de mayo at McDonald's

We went here for a late lunch twice while on vacation on Maui. This is really good and for a touristy place, an inexpensive place to eat. The food was an authentic variety of Mexican food, compared to most places. We had Beef fajitas and Beef enchiladas. Everything was very good, lots of chips and salsa, tasty guacamole. Everything was made fresh and very tasty. Very friendly staff, we were served by the owner that came by our table and was very friendly. They did not have a Gluten Free menu, but when we explained what we needed, they explained what was in everything, even let us read labels on the ingredients like spices. A hidden treasure, will be back next time we're on Maui.

We ate here on our honeymoon and thought it was good for the price. We are from Texas so Mexican is one of our favorites. We had chicken fajitas which were 12.99 and cheese enchiladas and they were 9.99. The only thing I would not recommend getting is a frozen strawberry margarita. It tasted like water. Maybe it was an off night I don't know. Also the first round of chips and salsa is free the next round was $3. Overall we would come again. Not bad! The waitstaff was super nice!

Amigos in the Wharf moved to a larger space (Old Pancho Leftys location). Being hard-up for Mexican Food I gave it another chance. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. The beans tasted home-made, the shrimp and steak were seasoned and the overall taste was a lot better. I will definitely being going back to Amigos again.

Horrible, terrible, don't waste your time. You would think they would be ready for Cinco De Mayo.... But they were not even close!

This place has the best Mexican food on the island. As a matter fact it's one of the best Mexican food I've ever had even on the mainland. This place is hidden behind the wharf but it's sure worth finding. This might be the best and most inexpensive meal you'll have on the island

Average Mexican food. Pricey for what they offer and atmosphere. Chicken tostada was ok, not great. Carne asada tostada meat wasn't very good. The meat was chewy and about 1/2" squares. Not like real carne asada. Burrito was ok if at half the price.

  • Vikas S.

Ambience fine. Hospitable staff. Food not very expensive. Actually we didn't order much so can't judge Amigo's by tostidas and burritos. You can't screw up too bad there. The food tasted fine. Bill less than $15

good Mexican food especially if your on a budget! also love the staff, they are super friendly and attentive. I've never had to wait for a table i can walk up and grab a table on the spot!

The location of the restaurant is very good. The food is very average though. Not too much flavor. It costs about 20% less than average restaurants. In my opinion it is not worth it.

  • Don R.

The food is decent but... The menu says rice and beans are included, they are not and they will charge you extra. The chips are good and when you ask for more they charge you another $3.00 for a refill on the chips. I live here and before amigos moved to this new location it was a fun affordable place to eat often. Now in the new place, they nickel and dime you

  • Mabel B.

The food was ok. It was a little bland. The service was good though. It's in a hard to find place in the cinema center on front street. I may or may not visit again.

Came here because it was open and my cousins and I wanted something small. There was only 1 other lady in front of us so the wait wasn't that long. I was the last to order, but got my order first so cool. What I got: Fish Taco ($4): $4 dollars for a fish taco? Definitely not worth it here. There was a lot of lettuce so I could barely hold my taco. I didn't want to eat it with a fork, but there was no other way! The fish was dry and didn't have much flavor to it. Adding the sauce that they gave me helped a little, but not so much. Service: Service was okay. We all took a while to decide what we wanted, but the lady behind the counter was very patient.

Ate here with my family for lunch and the food was reasonably priced, and tasted pretty good! Although it's a little small for seating, they offer outside seating as well. All of us were pretty satisfied. It's a good idea to also look through some of the Maui coupon books, as we found a 50% off a second entree plate! However, the 4.50 margaritas are only offered with Happy Hour, so beware if you find the same coupon we did. Service was fast, waiter was friendly. Overall, good deal for Maui.

I'm from California and know good Mexican food. This is not good Mexican food. 2 stars only because it was semi-edible.

I have mixed feelings about my experience at Amigo's today. I have been there before, but it has been quite some time. Within the past few weeks, they have remodeled the place so it seems more spacious and fresh. The food had decent flavor and the portion sizes were nice. I also enjoyed the complimentary chips and salsa. I ordered two margaritas and they were tasty. The combo platter I ordered was the Amigo's Trio. It included an enchilada, a taco and a relleno (stuffed pepper with lots of cheese). The meal cost 16.99 while each margarita was $7. Upon request for kamaaina discount, they took 10% off of the food. There are specials that are decent. For all specials you choose chicken or beef and $2 extra to add rice and beans. Mondays $2.50 tacos Tuesdays $7.99 burritos Wednesdays $6.99 chimichangas Thursdays $4.50 tostadas Fridays $9.99 ANY fajitas. Furthermore, every day from 3pm - 6pm is happy hour. Bean and cheese nachos is the only food item and its regular price is $8.99 but happy hour is only $4.99. Margaritas are only $4.99, and all draft beer is $1 off. My main complaint about my visit was the service. It appeared both servers were likely very new, and one even told me she was. My server Adriana seemed extremely uncomfortable in her job, seemed unsure of herself and did not seem to want to be there. As I left I asked the other server about happy hour specials and she did not even know them and did not have a happy hour menu so she asked the bartender. In the future, I will sit at the bar where I know I will still enjoy the good food but will also be able to count on better service. $30.52 was my total bill including discount and tax. Oh, I suggest parking in the Warf parking lot a block or two behind the building and get your parking validated for 2 hours at Amigos.

Good food, great service. Was recommend by another place down the street. I would be back.

Food was average. Fish was okay. Carnitas pretty good but could have been more flavorful. Service great, however. Maybe I'm spoiled because I live in Ca.

My new favorite place for Mexican food on Maui! I had the Chicken Mole plate and it was fantastic. I'm originally from El Paso, TX so, yeah, I know good mole and this tasted very authentic. My wife had the enchiladas and really enjoyed them. The salsa was fresh and the chips were warm and plenty crunchy. My son loved the horchata! Small place, hard to find, but worth it. Friendly staff and the 2 mexican ladies in the kitchen crank out some very authentic flavors. I would certainly recommend.

Four of us had a very pleasant dinner at this restaurant. Our server was Elena, who was very pleasant and personable as she explained each of the dishes and how they were prepared. Drinks were nice and we particularly enjoyed the salsa while waiting for our entrees. We really like Mexican food and found the dishes here to be both tasty and generous. We would definitely come back again. It's not easily seen from the street, being farther back on the inside of the mall, but worth a visit if you like Mexican food.

The worst mexican food i have ever eaten. The guacamole was definitely out of a packet. I had fish tacos, the fish was relatively fresh, everything else was out of a jar/ packet. There is absolutely no service as well.

Good Margaritas. Not so good food. Salsa tasted like it came from a jar in the supermarket. Beans also tasted like they came from a jar.

Almost didn't come here because of other negative yelp reviews, but ended up liking the food and wanted to encourage others to give this place a chance. We tried the shrimp quesadilla, shredded beef burrito, and vegetarian burrito, and they were all good.

How do you make the tortilla so tough it's hard to cut? Horrible service and food. Do not come here.

Horrible service. Didn't come and take our order or even acknowledge us for 20 minutes so we left.

I'm a Mexican food snob and compare all Mexican restaurants to my favorite. This was descent Mexican food.

My first real meal in Maui was pretty disappointing. We came late on a weeknight, and it felt like it was the regular crowd. I tried the chile rellenos which was a giant mooshy green pepper fried in a tastless bread batter - the good part was the copious amount of cheese inside. I was thoroughly carded for my beer, and had to have 2 forms of ID. Halfway through either the light was turned off or went out at our corner table. The chips stale, the salsa bland, and the food forgettable. On the upside, our waitress was friendly...

Really bad service accompanied by bad food.

Hooray for house-made salsa! The carnitas burrito with enchilada sauce is my staple order, but their chimichanga can't be beat: non-greasy, with a delightfully crispy crust.

Food is not authentic! Everything taste like its out of a package, can and processed. People are nice and friendly but they took more than 30 minutes to bring back our food.

This is where I go when I'm feeling home sick. Awesome tacos and the bartenders and servers are all very friendly. Its a simple place with good food, good drinks and a fun environment.

My friend and I are traveling around Maui, staying in Lahaina, and opted to try Amigo's one afternoon for lunch when he was craving some Mexican food...and since the sign outside says "Voted Maui's Best Mexican Food" then we figured, hey, might as well try this place! We get to the door and wait to be seated. And wait. And wait a bit more. It's probably a good 3 or 4 minutes before anyone notices us. When we finally do get noticed, we're told there's no indoor seating available (no surprise, because the inside of the place looks tiny), but that we can sit outside on the patio. We're fine with that and find a place to sit down. We're given our menus and left to check everything out. More time passes, and a bit more time. My friend mentions that we might want to decide everything right away - since we may not get our waiter back to order actual food if we ever let him go with just a drink order. Another 5-ish minutes later, he comes back... we order our drinks, chips with salsa, and our lunches. Being a pork fan, I ordered the pork carnitas for my meal. The outside dining area, for what it's worth, feels a bit cramped...and the service here was preeeeetty slow. When we finally did get our food though? We were pleasantly surprised! The chips and salsa were delicious...and didn't taste anything like canned/bottled salsa. My pork carnitas arrived some time later too. After the wait, I was ready to dig in...and the carnitas were fantastic. The pork itself was tasty, the pico de gallo and guacamole were both fresh, and the rice was flavorful and cooked well. Putting all those ingredients together allowed me quite the tasty lunch. Admittedly, I'm not surprised with the rating of this restaurant (right now, at 2.5 stars)...but I'd say it has everything to do with the service/cramped nature of the restaurant, and nothing to do with the food itself. If I had a nice chunk of time in the afternoon, and especially in the during the week, I'd venture down here for some delicious Mexican food.

worst Mexican food I've had, and I love "bad" Mexican food. chips were cold, the salsa was clearly jarred, the rice lukewarm at best, and the enchiladas were bland and small. we asked for warmer rice, which the waitress handled awkwardly. the next plate of rice was ...warm. ish. we asked for our check after a few bites. the waitress unapologetically charged us full price. definitely skip this one! seriously.

Can't complain about Amigo's. I had a steak burrito and it was filling and tasty. I don't really recommend eating in here - get it to go and take it anywhere else except for inside the restaurant. Why? Well, it's not BAD but the ocean is one minute down the street. It's a bit small and can get loud in there. If you must stay and get waited on, take an outdoor table. The service is good or indifferent, and the price is fair.

They bring chips and salsa, both mild and spicy, to the table as soon as you arrive, We usually go for their daily special and we've never had anything we havent liked. MONDAY: TACOS TUESDAY: BURRITOS WEDNESDAY:CHIMICHANGAS THURSDAY: TOSTADAS FRIDAY: FAJITAS Their burritos are huge, enough for two to share.

Food is delicious, live music, and friendly service. I had Jamaica with vodka and it made for a great drink.

We went to Amigos at the recommendation of some of the guys from the Reefdiver. I checked some of the Yelp reviews before and observed some poor service remarks. We sat outside on the patio which was nice. My wife and I shared the Flautas, our daughter had the kid's chees Quesadilla, and our son had a Cheeseburger w/fries (yes I know, but what do you do with a 7 year old?) Service wasn't too slow. I would say we had an average wait time between ordering and getting the food. What I felt was poor service was when the waiter brought out our food he had the phone cradled in his ear while he set our dishes down. Sounded like a business related call. Our son's Cheeseburger didn't have any ketchup with it. But since he was on the phone we couldn't ask him for anything as he immediately turned away while he was talking on the phone. My wife had to go inside to get some ketchup. The food was average. My son's burger actually looked pretty good, it was a thick patty. The salsa was good. The chips were average. The waiter never came and checked on us during the meal. The family next to us had asked the waiter for some salsa and they almost finished their meal before it was delivered. I think he may have been the only waiter.

Went there for breakfast. Had the Machaca and it was really good. This was one of the best meals we had so far and we were desperate for one. The chips were warm and the salsa was tasty plus there was no charge for it like at some places. The Machaca entrée we had was filling at 8.95. We had a coupon for 1/2 off the 2nd entrée - so that was really worth it! We would definitely go back.

Cute little place with good green cheese enchiladas. The prices are reasonable, and the "Activities" kiosk on the Front Street entrance to the cinema center where it is located has a coupon for half off the second of two meals. Service was very good.

Dos tacos Carne Asada, cool nothing special. Disappointed I paid $3.00 for a small basket of chips. It is what it is....

  • Andrea R.

The veggie burrito is awesome here. The only thing that bothers me about it is that they charge me a dollar extra for enchilada sauce over top (makes is so much better) even though i get it without the cheese and sour cream that come standard. Annoying. But the flavors are authentic and the salsas are great. I usually take it home or to the banyan tree to eat; it's not really a good sit in place. The food is definitely worth a try though, its the most authentic mexican ive found on maui.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
