poipu is known for good surfing waves. as a snowboarder and skateboarder, i _did_ really want to do some surfing during my recent trip to kaua'i. however, it was a babymoon trip for my wife and i. because she's pregnant, she can't surf; but i know she wanted to since she's big into snowboarding and also skates with me. since i couldn't surf on this trip, the south shore held nothing too special for me. we tried to visit the tropical botanical gardens, but i kept getting lost amongst all ritzy golf resorts and mansions, and my wife was getting cranky and colicky. the only reason we were hanging out on the south shore instead of returning to our rented condo in kapa'a was because we wanted to eat dinner at puka dog. i know puka dog is more like lunch food; but we had already eaten lunch at the shrimp station as well as post.lunch shave ice at jo.jo's shave ice. (you see, we have many friends who recently visited kaua'i and gave us lists of places to eat.) we weren't yet hungry, so we had to bum around the south shore. since my pregnant wife wanted a cold drink, we stopped by starbucks at this mall to get a fruity vivanno smoothie. isn't it funny how we go to starbucks to get smoothies? wasn't that jamba juice's territory in the past? well, this starbucks is nothing special; just the usual corporate coffee. i was surprised that starbucks on kaua'i (maybe in hawai'i in general?) don't serve any local coffee.

I want to start out by saying I usually enjoy Starbuck's consistency. It's not my favorite cup in the world, but I usually enjoy it. But I had 2 weird experiences here. I don't normally write reviews, but after 2 bad experiences out of 2 visits I decided to. The first time I went in the guy was just standoffish and patronizing. I'm used to better from Starbucks. I didn't go back for a week. When I did, I ordered 2 scones and a tall decaf. I wanted to enjoy the scones with my girls before walking back to our condo. Well, we finished the scones and my coffee still hadn't shown up, in spite of my checking on it. When I finally went up and said, "I need to go home now, can I have my coffee please?" They turned around, put a lid on a cup sitting on the counter, and handed it to me. So I had the pleasure of drinking lukewarm coffee while pushing a stroller down the side of the highway. It's kinda turned me off Starbucks for a while. Poipu has other good choices, or if you want a real treat head over to the Kalaheo Cafe and Coffee Co... I wish I could take that place home with me!

My favorite spot for a cold drink when it's hot. Love to meet up with friends for coffee to catch up

Expected Hawaii drip coffee to be offered here. Nope. In the past when I have come to Hawaii and visited a sbucks they have offered some kind of blend drip coffee of Hawaiian beans. They sold them here as beans but not for drinking. Pointless really to have the same stuff as on the mainland. Unless of course that's what you want.

Staff is nice but a little bit incompetent when it comes to ringing up your order but hey it's Hawaii so I don't care.

Seem to be overwhelmed by the foot traffic. Manager could benefit from having another employee to make sure those at the bar have everything they need to help the surging customer load

Best starbucks on the island!!! Their drinks are ALWAYS on point and their staff is soooo nice and helpful. Way nicer than the Lihue Starbucks workers! I come from Lihue and I work on the south side and every morning I bypass the Lihue Starbucks and go out of my way just to get the great service and happy faces from the Poipu crew! Hands down best Starbucks on the island!

One of my favorite place to get coffee on the south side. Good place to stop for a cold drink on a hot day. Close to where I live so I don't have to drive to Lihue for Starbucks when I can drive to the south side.

I visited here many times while on vacation and was welcomed every time and my drinks were made well. Had fun with my daughter people watching and sharing popcorn. The staff were so awesome , when my daughter spilled her drink they cleaned up and remade her drink. There was a guy there that my daughter swears is the guy from Lilo and stitch lol.

It's the typical Starbucks layout. The food and drink is good and if there's a line, it subsides rather quickly. The staff maintains a pretty good standard of cleanliness and it's great to sit down an get work done in the air conditioned space.

Not the best and not the worst. We ended up here while hanging out in Poipu. Got a mug for the husband's family members and caught some of the AC in the store.

Not very friendly at this location.. At least the experience I had with the cashier each day, who said "what" when she could not hear me or any of the other customers. Drinks were okay. Sort of surprised they don't have kinda coffee brewing regularly.. Wait was super long, but they were short on staff.. Save your money starbucks lovers.. I love Starbucks but while you are enjoying the beautiful island of Kauai, get some coffee from a cute local shop. Pass this place up!

Loved my Chai tea as usual. However, when it came to use the facilities, they were cleaning it. So ... did a little shopping next door and went back. Still blocked off. I asked if I could use the ... staff said, and I quote "ya know, there's one across the courtyard". Thanks for the courtesy folks.

This Starbucks is in the heart of Poipu / Koloa, so it was good to have one there and not have to drive to Lihue for some goodness. The seating was adequate with couple of outlets. It is quite small though. No furniture to make things comfortable for patrons. Located in the Poipu Shopping village, there are plenty of parking available in the mall's parking not. Typical fabulous baristas who would make your coffee perfect. This place does serve the tourism for Kauai's south side.

Great place and friendly people. The team here does an excellent job keeping the place clean (I used to work at a restaurant and am picky about keeping areas clean for customers). I also enjoy how friendly they are to locals and visitors. The shop plays mostly local music, maintaining it's identity as a Hawaiian Starbucks, and isn't loud and obnoxious, like some places can be. The tables are adequate and usually free. So far, this is my favorite Starbucks on Kauai. The only drawback is that this place closes at 8pm. This is understandable since not that many customers come here late at night.... 5 stars.

Typical Starbuck's, nothing much new to add other than they do sell local Hawaii grown coffee, albeit under the Starbuck's label. The people here are friendly enough and they are open at 530 in the morning, which is good since most of the time I am on Kauai is for business. Usually I stay in Poipu so this Starbuck's is on the way in to work and easy enough to stop on by for a morning jolt of caffeine.

It's a Starbucks, you feel at home. The staff is very friendly and efficient. Went here more than once each day on our week long trip. One day they messed up my order and immediately gave me 2 free drink coupons. Not necessary but mahalo nui. Keep it up girls.

Amazing how many people still have to have their Starbucks fix while on vacation. Menu is the same here as it is on the mainland. Service is prompt and efficient (place is fairly busy).

It's Starbucks on island time. We visited daily & got standard, delicious Starbucks drinks. All baristas were friendly & helpful & all but one were quick & competent. One barista was maybe in training? But he was nice & was obviously trying his hardest. :) Quick in & out location & fresh pastries. Unique Starbucks branded Hawaiian souvenirs, too:

Glad to have this Starbucks near by. Unlike Oahu, Starbucks on Kauai are far and few. Good location and I'm glad I found one. 3.5***.*

The workers are really awesome! I love seeing the staff when i stop in for my usual drink. They're always smiling, greeting and singing (which is what i love). The drinks are always quick and the line is never long. Keep up the awesome work Poipu Staff!

I need coffee like I need air. I don't prefer Starbucks, but sometimes the options are limited. I stopped by a number of times and every time, there was a long line and it didn't move quickly. The store could use a few more employees to move things along. Friendly staff, mostly. Depending on who is making the drinks, it can vary in quality (like all Starbucks). Summary: it's the typical SB experience with longer lines.

is it just me or is there an obvious difference between the quality of the products served here compared to the mainland?? When we entered, there was no line and the barista was just reading behind the register.. sadly, she never even looked up, or motioned to us to order, despite the fact that we were the first in line.. so finally, my husband just went up and ordered. so much for that aloha kindness.... we came here for an after-dinner coffee fix. He ordered his usual decaf cafe mocha and i ordered a hot chocolate. We also got a couple of slices of banana nut bread to snack on later. When we had a taste of our drinks and the bread, something was very off... I couldnt put my finger on it.. but the coffee just didnt taste the same.. and the banana nut bread tasted stale.. BOTH pieces! I wouldnt be surprised if these are sent over from the mainland. Trust me, if you need a coffee fix, dont stop in, youre better off hiting up a local spot.
