If I could live here, I would do it and happily gain 100 lbs. Not sure why I didn't bother trying Lappert's until the 2nd to last day. I vowed to come back again that night after dinner but I was way too full. We had the white chocolate macadamia nut and roasted banana salt caramel in the waffle cup. SOOO GOOD! I'll see you again soon, Lappert's. Hopefully...
I love this location since it's air conditioned and has self serve water but I've gone there and ordered a scoop of macadamia nut ice cream to receive a scoop of macadamia nut ice cream with no pieces of macadamia nuts. In all my life of eating Lappert's during the summer have I ever received a scoop of macadamia nuts with no pieces macadamia nuts. Their macadamia nut ice cream always has actual pieces of macadamia nuts. It was absurd. Maybe it was the way the ice cream guy scooped the ice cream or that the tub wasn't a good tub or that it was just bad luck. Who knows.
So yummy! Luckily we were only in Kauai for 3 days or else we surely would have gained a ton of weight from eating here. Everyday we stopped in to grab some of their delicious ice cream! My first ice cream was White Chocolate Macadamia Nut. This was definitely rich. There were bits of white chocolate throughout the ice cream. Couldn't really taste the macadamia but mouthwatering nonetheless. If you want something lighter, I recommend Auntie Lilikoi's Passion Fruit Sorbet and Hayden Mango Sorbet. I had this for breakfast on the last day, haha. Whatever you decide on, definitely get it in the waffle cone. They are freshly made and come on, waffle cone tastes better than a cup ;) For all you San Diegan, do not mistaken this Lappert's for the one in SD. We did some research and they are NOT the same.

If you're looking for a easy, quick, and inexpensive breakfast, this is the place! Tried their egg sandwiches this morning and they were perfect: two fried eggs, bacon, your choice of cheese & your choice of bread. No frills, just good, fresh ingredients and fast service. They have two tables outside in front of the restaurant if you want to eat there (we did). Totally dig it and would go back for sure.
Boars head meats Staff was very friendly My wife ordered a turkey n Swiss on wheat and she really liked it.
Friendly service and good prices. The bread is so good. Soft inside and a nice toast crunch outside. The bread really makes the sandwich here. Plenty of options and specialty sandwiches are on the menu. Didn't try the salads but the sandwich was so big it wasn't needed.

My husband and I stayed at the Grand Hyatt and knew we had to dine here once. What I didn't know is that this would be the most delicious meal either one of us had so far in Hawaii, or honestly in a really really long time! I highly recommend the crab cake appetizer and this is coming from someone who lives in DC and has had Maryland crab cakes on many occasions. These were legitimately the best crab cakes I have EVER had. For our entrees, we got the ahi and opah which our server suggested. The ahi was absolutely delicious with perfectly seasoned fried rice to accompany it. The dish that really stole the show was the opah though. It's a delicate yet swordfish type fish in terms of texture with spicy dungeonnes crab on top. I have never had a better fish dish in my life and am still thinking of it right now debating if we have time to return before we depart on Wednesday. Trust me, get the opah and it will change your life!! Lastly we finished the meal with perfect lava cake. Need I say more? Worth every penny!
I was lucky enough to come to this venue while it was raining outside. WOW! It was beautiful! When you walk into the restaurant, you go down a stair case over a koi pond. You get to see a bunch of fish swimming underneath the restaurant, which is literally nothing but bridges to different platform sections. When we were seated, we had a table right on the edge of the water. Was a great view, and the rain made it even better. On to the food: we had the Ono Ceviche, which was excellent. I'm a ceviche fan in general, and can say with confidence that this is one of the better ones. Earlier that day, I had went to the St. Regis and had some less-than-stellar ceviche, so maybe that's why this one was so good. Ono is the perfect fish for this kinda dip; the taro chips were awesome too. Next, I had the lobster bisque. You can tell a restaurant knows what it's doing when it brings its core soup ingredients out in a separate bowl from the bisque. The waiter put the bowl of lobster bits in front of me, then poured the bisque soup over the ingredients, making it a great soup. All of the lobster was firm and fresh; definitely worth the $12. For dinner, I had the Macadamia Nut Crushed Mahi. Wasn't actually my favorite part of the meal. But to be fair, I had just ate at a Charthouse a week ago, and had the same dish. I'm not going to bog down the score though, because it was still a decent meal. Overall, 5-stars all-around. Great ambiance, great food, and great cocktails. I could just exhaust the adjective, "great," and still not do this place enough justice. Check it out next time you are in the area!
Beautiful location, friendly staff and great food! I'm in food coma! They have warm molasses bread with garlic truffle butter so good we asked for some togo! Hawaiian catch is their seafood sampler plate, very good! My hubby got the prime rib delicious. Well rounded meal w dessert which we had no room. Warm molten choc cake w raspberry choc filling and salted caramel ice cream. Omg all of it was super delicious

Love this place. It's really classy, but totally a beach place too. I walked in and asked if I was ok wearing shorts, and the guy up front said totally, you'll probably be more comfortable! I got a super tasty and rich burger (ridiculously rich and ridiculously good)- and my wife really enjoyed her tofu dish. I'd go back here for sure!
We stopped in for sushi. First we were sat in the main dinning room. When we asked about the sushi menu, and told that it's only served in the lounge (all of 15 feet away), we decided to move. Silly, but whatever. Jaime was a great server, and kept refilling the edamame tray for us. Given the prices on the menu, thinking the sashimi sampler would be a good meal for 2 people. Given that we're from the Bay Area, we know good food and high prices. The 3 tiny piles of sashimi for $35 was even too much for me to handle. If you're looking for sushi on the south shore, skip here, skip Dolphin and get take out from Makai in the grocery store. In summary, good service, poor value for your dollar even by Hawaii standards.
My wife and I walked next door to our resort to have something different for breakfast and we found it at Red Salt. After being seated along the large windows overlooking the pool area, our server Jessica appeared and warmly welcomed us and took our drink order. The two page menu offered quite a selection of options for breakfast beyond their buffet. My wife picked the Eggs Benedict while I opted for the lemon pineapple soufflé pancakes. We were warned about the pancakes taking 20 minutes to prepare but we pressed on not having any place to be for a while. The dining room is large and spacious with big windows letting in a bunch of light. Before 8am on a Sunday morning, we almost had the place to ourselves with only being two other couples there. My wife had to wonder into the lobby to find a morning paper to help pass the time as none were available in the restaurant while the pancakes were rising in the oven. Right on schedule everything appeared. Both dishes were well presented and looked yummy. The Eggs Benedict has a bit of lemon juice added to take the bite off of the somewhat spicy pancetta leaving just enough heat to make it interesting. My pancakes were very light and fluffy and offered with a coconut style syrup along with a more traditional one. I found the former a little too much when added to this already sweet dish and went old school. We loved our breakfast and enjoyed the change of pace from our home resort.

I loved eating breakfast here almost every day! The line was never wrong, the Starbucks drinks were on point, the prices were right, and the pastries were delicious! I absolutely loved that although there were people on the terrace every morning, there was always available seating. My husband and I consistently found shaded areas with chairs and a table to relax at with ocean views every single morning. Beware of the birds! They are quite bold! They tried flying by and snatching my husband's pastry out of his fingers.
What a little slice of paradise...sitting outside on a gorgeous terrace for a quick breakfast, or watching the sun set from your table with views of Shipwreck Beach and the awesome grounds, you cannot go wrong here at Seaview Terrace. Yeah, it's not cheap, but you're at the Grand Hyatt on Kauai...what do you expect? You get what you pay for! It was worth every penny, as far as we were concerned :) Our first morning in Kauai, we walked the path from where we were staying to the Grand Hyatt, marveled at the beautiful grounds, and found our way to Seaview Terrace. Grabbed a pastry and some juice, and sat out on the terrace in the shade to enjoy the view and the lovely breeze. A couple nights later, we decided to go back to Seaview Terrace to enjoy some appetizers and drinks after taking memorable pics of the sunset from Shipwreck Beach. I discovered my new FAVORITE drink at Seaview Terrace; the Kalaheo Colada! Basically a pina colada with BANANAS...omigosh, I looooove that drink! The food (sliders and kahlua pizza) was soooo good (I didn't care for the taro chips that accompanied the sliders, but Hubby liked 'em). We cannot wait to go back to Kauai (we're thinking April 2016), and cannot wait to hit up Seaview Terrace again. The Kalaheo Colada, the food, the view, the service, and the ambiance are all beckoning me back from the Mainland!
Pros: View is incredible. That really is the only (and quite a strong) reason to go. Cons: Expensive. Inside the Grand Hyatt.

Puka Dog is Soooooooo good! I wish that my husband and I had discovered it at the beginning of our trip and not on our last day in Poipu. We both ordered the sausage dog with mild sauce, Hawaiian mustard and mango relish. Delicious. Wish we had a puka dog on the mainland. Probably my favorite meal we ate on our trip!
If you're in Kauai, you should check this place out. However, have low expectations! It's a good concept of having either a polish or veggie hot dog with a variety of condiments to mask the weiner. When you come inside, select the type of "dog", secret sauce, relish and other condiments. I picked the polish, spicy with mango relish. Yeah, unique flavors and all that but it was too "doughy". I ended up throwing away the excess bun! Talk about extra junk in the trunk! The lemonade was "meh". I expected a "Hot Dog on a Stick" type of drink with the sour pucker face but what I got was a watered down lemonade. The +1 was they used Splenda by my request. There is tons of seating outside and the staff was very friendly. Ca$h only!
Love love LOVE Puka Dog! The veggie dog and the polish sausage have so much flavor, and I love trying out their different relishes. I also think it's cute how they stuff the dog and toppings into the bun. Whenever we go to Kauai we ALWAYS make at least one trip here. Thanks for the aloha spirit! Please open a Puka Dog in Los Angeles!

Got Stomach Sickness We ate there in March, and the next morning we were really sick to our stomachs. It lasted about 4 hours, then we were OK, we rarely get sick. Decided to try it again about a week later, and the Matre D said we could not sit on the deck because they were short on staff because staff was sick. We immediately left and did not go back. We had friends just get back from Maui on 4/7 and the entire family got the noro virus, so I think the stomach flu must be making the rounds in Hawaii. Be sure to always wash your hands and use hand sanitizer, we did that, but the germs were probably on the plates or glasses.
Atmosphere: The grounds are beautiful and really does look like a tropical plantation house. This was the perfect place for the size of my wedding party (33 adults, 4 children). We had the West Lanai to ourselves which was perfect. But if you're looking for a beach view, this place doesn't have it. Service: Mona, the Special Events Manager was extremely helpful. She was informative, responsive and very sweet. From the start of our planning to the day of the wedding, she helped us all the way through. From creating our menu, to setting up our sign in table and place cards and such. She had to leave early so we were handed off to Joyce who seemed a little rough around the edges at first. Came off as, "I don't care to be here" attitude, but she warmed up to us towards the end, was able to crack a smile here and there. Drinks came out a little slow, we had to ask more than once and the food came out normal. Food: First Course: Kailani Farms Arugula Salad-good, Lobster bisque-good. Second course: Seafood Lau Lau-Decent, I only liked the scallops, but that's just me. Our guests said everything else was okay, nothing special. Grilled Rib-eye-Edible, My husband asked for more steak sauce which didn't do much he says. I tried it, I thought it was okay but I did like the onion rings more than the steak.. Sugarcane Skewered pork tenderloin- The only person who ordered this said it was good. Our last course was wedding cake by Sandy- amazing! We had three flavors, Lilikoi, Kona Mocha and Vanilla Mac Nut. The Mocha and Mac Nut were my favorites! My rating is based off of the food would get a 3.0 rating. The service, responsiveness, professionalism value and flexibility gets a 4.0 rating. Overall, 3.5.
Great dinner... The lau lau was awesome. Drinks were great ... Cucumber mojito... Wish we got dessert there... Pleasant ans calm atmosphere.

I really wanted this place to be good. It was beautiful with great treetop views, and seemed to be a great spot for a relaxing dinner. The service was great, and we had great expectations from the menu. Unfortunately the food fell short. My $20+ steak fajita was inedible. Instead of using traditional strip or ribeye cuts, they chose to use cheap stew meat. The tough liver-tasting meat is not hard to identify and totally grossed me out. I really hate it when (pricey) restaurants cut corners just to save a buck or two. Bad move!
They have a "Bacon Flight" on the breakfast menu! The Relleno Poblano was a great addition to the bacon start of the day.
My husband and I went here the other night for dinner. We're in town for our honeymoon and wanted to venture out to a good local restaurant outside the resort. People generally had good things to say so we decided to give it a try. Serious disappointment! We got there and were seated quickly because there was no wait. We were seated and shortly after the waitress came over to take our drink order. We decided to order the guacamole dip appetizer and my husband ordered a margarita. It took forever for the drink and appetizer to come. We figured the guacamole would be amazingly fresh for taking that long. Nope! It was in a cold bowl and tasted like a dip that I could buy at the grocery store. For $11, we both expected more. We then ordered our food. He got a chicken burrito and I ordered the carne asada tacos with a side of rice and beans. Again, this took forever to come out. Meanwhile, hubby was ready to order another drink and the waitress was, no where to be found. This isn't a big place either. She didn't come by to check on us once. Finally she came by and we asked for a drink menu. He was already pretty sure what he was going to order, just needed to confirm the name. She hands him the menu, and as he's talking, she just walks away! Then he had to wait a while longer before he could finally get her attention to order his drink. Btw, we were sitting at the table closest to the waitress station about 5 feet away tops! When our food finally came out, the taste was less, impressive than the service. Huge disappointment for the prices! The meat on the carne asada tacos just didn't do it for me. Granted I'm use to California mexican food. I only ate it because I was hungry.y husbands burrito was the same. He said the best.part of the buritto was the tortilla. After we finished, it took a while again to even get our check. The only person I saw around there really doing a great job was the busgirl who was on top of things. The only good thing about this place was the ambiance. If you're visiting Kauai, I definitely wouldn't recommend eating here. It left a bad taste in our mouths and a good chunk from our wallets for less than satisfying food and service.

Pizzetta

Old Koloa Town,5408 Koloa Rd
Koloa, 96756
Reviews:
Pizzetta is an OK restaurant if you don't care about service and you don't order the pizza. This is my second time to Kauai and last time I visited 15 years ago, I went to Brick Oven Pizza. Brick Oven was a memorably good and fun place to eat. I returned there prior to eating at Pizzetta, and had a similarly good experience at Brick Oven the second time, 15 years later. We decided to eat at Pizzetta for three reasons. First, there was a great smell coming from the place while shopping in Koloa the day before. Second, a shopkeeper recommended the pizza there. Third, some reviews claimed the pizza was better than Brick Oven, and Pizzetta was closer to our resort. We are complete pizza lovers and in our home state of California, we have been known to travel upwards of 70 miles to get the pizza we want... so we definitely care about quality pizza and have the experience eating it :) I did notice the reviews that claimed the crust on the pizza was like frozen pizza. You know how Yelp can be. The reviewers can sometimes exaggerate the truth. So I chose to ignore the negative reviews, but only to my own hazard. The pizza was crap. The crust didn't bend like fresh pizza does... it "snapped" just like any frozen pizza would. I would bet almost any amount of money that they do serve frozen dough here. My wife had the ribs and my daughter had the seafood pasta. Both of these dishes were fine. Nothing excellent, just OK. Also on the positive side, the atmosphere was cool. The furnishings were nice and the decor was pretty good. But, probably the worst thing about the experience at Pizzetta was the service. Our waitress was a dingbat, probably on some kind of drugs... and maybe those drugs were prescribed because she may have been mentally ill. First, she came late to our table, and seemed disoriented. She took our drink and appetizer (garlic bread) order, and said "My name is Lisa" as she walked away. She returned briefly to take our menus, but then realized we hadn't ordered dinner yet. Mumbling to herself without any prompting from us, she realized her mistake and left. Before she was able to deliver the drinks, she returned to take our dinner order. We like to relax at dinner and take it slow, but we begrudgingly submitted our dinner order. Again, she told us her name was Lisa. Our drinks did come shortly thereafter via the manager. We suspect Lisa is her daughter... otherwise there was no explanation for how she could have remained employed. After about 10-15 minutes, our dinner came. But not our garlic bread. There wasn't any explanation given. Just the dinner put in front of us. After everyone was served dinner, "Lisa" explained that the garlic bread was being handled by the manager. We told her that we didn't need it anymore, and that it was meant to be an appetizer. She was visibly distraught, but quickly left. The manager came with the garlic bread the very next minute, and claimed the first order was burned. She offered to comp us the bread, which is probably the only saving grace preventing them from receiving one star. We're not sure whether or not to believe the bread was burned, given the bozo nature of our waitress... but we accepted it and moved on with our meal. My wife's second glass of wine that she ordered after this fiasco ended up being closer to a half serving. At this point, we were ready to withhold all tips but didn't have the right bills, so ended up tipping about 5 bucks. This was our last meal on our week-long vacation. Of course, we ate out every meal from breakfast through dinner. This was the only meal that completely disappointed us. I seriously recommend that you consider other options unless you are really lazy and don't give a crap about service or food quality.
The Kalua Pig & Cabbage is great!
It was my first time going to this pizza place. I live in koloa so being a local I was hoping this could be a good pizza place to bring friends but I will not be doing that anymore. I ordered the caprice salad which was pathetic. It cost me $9 for 3 half slices of tomato and mozzarella. I also ordered the truffle mushroom mac and cheese which I was really excited for. The sauce, or what i thought was sauce, was chunky like it has been sitting for awhile, then following a undelightful taste. I also had the spaghetti and meatballs. Barely any sauce on the dish and the meatballs were also white in color so Im not sure what meat it was made out of, probably turkey. Overall, disappointed in the food. Granted, I was probably their last customer of the night but that shouldnt allow me to get ripped off of service I deserve as a customer. I wont be coming back.

Summary: picturesque setting right on the pond with an ocean view (if you're seated away from the staircase), pretty good quality food and a relaxing atmosphere. You're paying $$$ for the amazing ambiance, but the fresh-squeezed juice definitely helps. Some reviewers report that the breakfast buffet is included with their room package here at the Grand Hyatt... lucky them. We took a leisurely morning beach walk from our condo and arrived around 10:30 with the intention of filling up on beautiful views and unlimited fresh-squeezed juice / coffee / food as brunch. No, it's not cheap, but what kind of gourmet food experience in Hawaii really is? Included in the breakfast buffet are fresh-squeezed pineapple, passionfruit and orange juices, hot coffee, a variety of basic breakfast staples (breads, pastries, cereal, etc) and a few specialty items, like omelettes made-to-order, breakfast potatoes, and more. But when you factor in the tranquil view on the patio, or if you're lucky enough to get an ocean view, the $30 breakfast buffet is a nice splurge. In our family of five, 3 decided to go with the breakfast buffet, while husband ordered the Local Inspired Eggs Benedict (SUPER fresh mahi mahi) and I went for the Kalua Pork Hash. We were both pleasantly surprised with the freshness of the ingredients, and the portion sizes were decently generous. Our breakfast entrees were ~$20 each. Our server was prompt and friendly. He was sweating, but kind, which suggested to me that he was really putting effort into quick (unusual for Hawaii) service, which we all really appreciated. AND he didn't say a word, when we non-buffet eaters helped ourselves to our buffet eating family members' juices, coffees and pastries. Which we was highly highly appreciated. MAKE SURE YOU TRY THE CHOCOLATE DOUGHNUT HOLES! They are replaced often, so get them while they're fresh. I encourage you to try as many pastries as possible, since many of them were quite quite good. I saw some, what looked to be, breakfast regulars keeping it simple with make-your-own yogurt parfaits and eggs and toast. They also have the cutest (and tastiest!) teeny tiny jam jars: guava strawberry is DA BEST! 4 stars because... it was the best breakfast on the island that we had, but it's still nothing stellar compared to the kinds of breakfasts we've had vacationing elsewhere.
I'm not a buffet person whatsoever. In fact I shy away from ever visiting that kind of restaurant. But our vacation package included breakfast. Let me just say, this spot changed my opinion entirely. From the smoked salmon to the humbolt fog blue cheese. To the coconut peanut butter and the dozens of steel cut oatmeal toppings, this was a buffet unlike any other. Try the breakfast sausage--it has bitter orange or mango in it. Super good. Also at the pancake station they offer syrup along with coconut syrup: try it--it's amazing if you like coconut! Splurged and even tried the mango coffee cake--another hit with our family. Overall, I am beyond happy that we have breakfast included in our stay now. View is incredible and the service is personable and prompt. And there's even swans cruising by to occupy your little ones. Great spot!!
Was fairly disappointed with this place. For a Hyatt it was subpar. The $30+ per person buffet was pretty minimal and the service really poor. The clincher was when I saw one of the staff pick up tongs that had fallen on the floor and put them back of the serving table. I pointed it out to our server and she didn't seem terribly concerned. She did at least have them replaced while I was standing watching. Food choices were limited and really just ok.
