Delicious food. Great value. And the people are sooo nice. They gave us a bunch of other food recommendations, including favorite happy hour spots and that it was even restaurant week!

We came here after our surfing lesson. One of the guys at the surf place was munching and said this is where he got it. So we walked on over! It's dive. About as un-fancy as you can get. The two people there are undoubtedly the owners. They have three or four tables. The selection is very limited. And it is this limited selection that prevents me from giving five stars. Because what they did have was really good, and it was not particularly expensive. Shoyu chicken, a curry chicken, and a couple of other things I don't remember. That's their menu. We had both the shoyu and the curry, and they were both very good. Get the lunch plate, it's a better deal. I would have gotten ice cream (which apparently is home-made on the island) but they didn't have the flavor I wanted. Oh well...maybe next time. I't's not really well marked, but just walk under the covered sidewalk until you're almost in the corner and there it is.

This is home cooking! Straight up, nothing fancy, just tasty food cooked from scratch for a great price. Try the chicken pumpkin curry over rice, it's to die for. I also got a super yummy salad topped with loads of beautiful avocado, mangos, and a homemade lilikoi vinaigrette. When they have fish it is super fresh. Their hibiscus lilikoi tea is a fave. And the staff couldn't be friendlier. Mostly a breakfast and lunch joint, but on friday nights they stay open for dinner and then host a ukulele jam session, so if you're a player, it's good fun.

The best way to describe this place is that you're getting a huge plate of what feels like a homemade meal for an incredibly reasonable price. The shoyu chicken is amazing and the people who work there make you feel like family. We found this place by accident while in Maui 4 years ago, and we went back again that trip and then made it a point to find it again during this trip. I'm sure we will be back at least one more time before we leave in a few days!

Excellent food! I had the shoyu chicken, roast pork, chicken luau, Mahi salad, mac salad, and haha rice..... whoever the cook is, is fabulous and hits home with the taste. All workers are EXTREMELY friendly. Whenever I'm on this side of town I stop here to eat.

Stopped in for lunch today! This might be the best deal in Kihei! Service with a true smile! Extremely clean! Good choices each day and the portions are more than adequate! Priced for the working man! Quality and quantity and a reasonable price! A rare combination these days in Kihei!

I was recommended this place for food by a cousin of mine who frequents Maui. Johnson's is a local's place (read good hole-in-a-wall) and is located in a nondescript strip mall. If it weren't for my cousin, I would have totally missed out on the awesome local food here. I know it's listed on Yelp as a Deli, but when I think Deli, I think sandwiches. This review is for the hot food which is served. There are usually between 3-4 daily specials, served lunch plate style (scoop of rice and mac salad along with your entree, see photos). Prices were so reasonable for Maui and the food was so delicious we ate there twice during our stay, once for lunch and once for dinner.

This spot was really unique, because it felt like you were eating at your momma's house....that is if your momma is into collecting weird things from swap meets, and doesn't care about matching utensils, etc. When we came in, there was no menu anywhere. The lady at the counter asked if we wanted breakfast. When we said yes, she started listing what she had available. I ordered Portuguese sausages with rice and egg, and hubby ordered the same, because he didn't want to make her go over her list of what she had again. The sausages are not as good as Kihei Caffe. What the show killer really was, was this ice cream sandwich cookie thing they had. It was like an Its-Its, but instead of cookie, it had brownies on the outside! omg, YUM! They were homemade, so even better. :) I probably would not come back to eat, since I like the option of a menu, or at least a "daily specials" thing, but I'd definitely stop by to grab one of those ice cream sandwich things. :)

Very good local food you most likely won't find elsewhere on the island. Good, friendly counter service.

This is a great local place that caters mostly to the local lunch crowd. It is "cafeteria style" and they have 3-4 different things per day. Examples of what they serve: roasted turkey, kalua pork, pork and beans, chicken hekka, roasted pork, hamburger steak. Comes with rice and mac or green salad. Food is not gourmet, it is just tasty, a good value and very, very fast.

It is easy to pass this place by without taking a second look since it is tucked in the corner of a strip mall/business park/condo complex just down the block from the Kihei Market Place. I just happened to notice the restaurant on my walks to and from the beach. The restaurant is cafeteria in style with a really large kitchen area and is spotless. I was talked into trying their curry chicken which was quite flavorful (the owner or manager of the restaurant said she had three helpings of it because it was so good). I love that it had coconut milk in the recipe! I learned that particular dish is served on Monday and Wednesday. It is super cheap at $7.24 and they give you a lot of food! yelp.com/user_local_phot… I told my friends at dinner that they should check this place out and they did the next day. They had related to me that they had the best pork lau lau on the island. Even better than Mama's Fish House! I just wish I ate here more often!

This place is as good as it gets for lunch, really. Don't go here for a romantic dinner or a business lunch expecting expensive art on the walls and such. Do go here if you want some seriously awesome local grinds. Johnson and Terry will take care of all your hunger needs, believe me, I'm a big eater and I left stuffed each time. We were on vacation and ate here 4 times for lunch in 1 week! There are about a half dozen entrees to choose from each day. The shoyu chicken which is a staple is so good, I kept ordering more. There are usually a couple of pork and chicken dishes, my favorites were the chicken curry and chicken hekka. I also really liked the fact I could have a green salad in place of macaroni salad. I know, maybe not the true plate lunch without the mac salad, but it's nice to have the healthier option. They also have some spicy pepper garlicky water that you must try if spicy is your thing!

We hit this place late one evening last week. The entree selections were reduced to shoyu chicken, roast pork and something else that escapes my memory. We had the chicken and pork which were very good. Nothing fancy - just good local fare.

All you need to know: Mochiko chicken. Shoyu chicken. Best plate lunch ever. Mind blowing: Kona coffee chocolate ice cream sandwich. [Drops mic sideways, walks away!]

This place is a hidden gem! I recommend everyone coming and trying this place, you won't be disappointed. The staff there are super friendly, too. The roast pork plate, & turkey plate are my 2 faves. Wish I knew about this a long time ago.

The curry chicken was delicious. A little spicy but great flavor. Looks like a spot for locals, so glad we tried it.

We went here on the second day of our two week vacation in Hawaii at the insistence of our florist/wedding coordinator. She said it was the best plate lunch in KiHei. She did not let us down! It was a little hard to find, because it is in the far bottom corner of a small strip mall. It's a small place, and it seemed like a locals place, because the owner knew everyone by name when they walked in. He makes different entrees everyday, and of course you get a scoop of green salad and macaroni salad. We got a curry chicken and a hamburger steak plate lunch. It was delicious!! Overall, perfect place to stop for a plate lunch before headed out on an adventure in Maui!

Amazing value and great local food. Friday is mochiko chicken day, so super ono! Friendly service, comfortable atmosphere, good food, and a vintage dish store full of treasures like Fiestaware and California Pottery. This place feels like home away from home. Also prime rib, hula, and ukulele jam on Friday night.
