After a long day hiking, snorkeling we decided to stay in and order pizza. Shaka had good review so we tried it. We ordered our pizza at 7:30pm, they said 45 min-1 hour. At 8:30pm, I called and they said the driver was lost. I proceeded to give directions, and they had sent him to the wrong condo complex entirely. At 9pm, they called back saying the driver couldnt figure out where our condo was. Shaka is in Kihei, our condo was Ekahi, just a couple miles down the road in Wailea, with clear signs for Ekahi and the building/condo #s. After 3 phone calls later, we were hungry, frustrated and the manager could offer nothing to us. Finally, I see the Shaka driver in the next complex driving in circles and I yell to him to come into the next entrance. at 9:30pm, 2 hours after ordering, we got our cold pizza and the driver just complained how he wanted to go home, no apology. The Shaka manager would not give us the cold, 2 hour late pizza for free. This place has horrible customer care, and drivers that are either way stoned that they cannot navigate a 5 mile radius or just stupid.....Kihei and Wailea are NOT big, even a tourist can find their way around. So HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE with Shaka and after all that, the pizza was totally mediocre. The pizza is much better at Matteo's up the street in Wailea and they have a much better vibe and customer care. Don't waste your time with Shaka!!

Cheese steaks!!! Don't order the pizza, just the cheese steaks. I got a small and took it back to the condo after a long day at the beach. I should have gotten the large. I will make sure I make a stop before we leave for another one. Too bad there isn't one of these on the mainland. For those of you familiar with Philly's Best....this is BETTER!

We decided we needed a night in after being out and about day after tortuous day in maui. ;) We ordered Shaka Pizza delivery. The pizza was good, but like previous reviewers stated, sloppy and sliding off of the crust. We also got a cheesesteak. That was one delicious sandwich. I've never been to Philly so I'm not going to call it the best ever, but it was GOOD. But expensive, wow! We ordered a pizza, two large sandwiches, and some cheesebread and it was about $70!! My friend did order it again before we left though so it was apparently worth it.

I didn't expect how good the subs are here. I had the chicken, with cheese, and grilled onions. Here's a hint for u. Get the grilled onions. It makes the subs to die for.

Not the best, but probably the best in Kihei. The dining area was very nice and the owner was friendly. Pizza was good enough. I will go there again.

This place really does have great philly chessesteaks, and the staff was friendly. Two thumps way up

Didnt have the famous chicken cheesesteak but did have the pizza. It was good but I do have to agree with the cheese falling off.

This place is f_ _ing bomb.com !!! we came here twice during our 6 days!! It fed the four of us for 24 bucks. Pineapple and Ham pizza with fresh local pineapple was simply amazing!!! it reminded us of the venice beach, ca boardwalk, it was tits I recommend it!

I'm surprised this place doesn't have more reviews. When I went to Shaka, I ordered a cheesesteak sandwich and it was seriously one of the BEST I've ever had. The food definitely hit the spot!

  • Abe M.

The pizza was super soggy and not that good. Wouldn't go there again.

  • Billy K.

Food was really great. We had cheesesteaks and a slice of cheese pizza. Our only complaint is it took forever. Price is reasonable. We would try them again on our next visit. FYI- no beer

Shaka pizza is a disgrace to pizzas everywhere. It's too thick, too mush, has a strange consistency, maybe too much grease, that makes the cheese slide all over. After our 1st visit my husband was unimpressed but I was determined to give them another shot. We ordered delivery and our pizza arrived UPSIDE DOWN!!! Yes, we opened the box and our pizza was crust up, all of the cheese and toppings smeared all over the bottom of the carton, it was a mess. Needless to say, we will never be back.

I know most people don't do pizza on Maui, so those people don't need to read this. For those of us on a budget and need a good spot to eat, this is it. Wife and I split a large chicken and cheese sandwich with mushrooms and peppers, it was amazing. Kids split a large cheese pizza and they all loved it. Family of five at for $45, a steal on Maui. Only reason for four instead of five stars was no drink refills at the soda machine? Who doesn't offer free refills?

  • Teri T.

Not being a fan of NY style pizza, I was skeptical at the beginning, but the sauce was really good, and the cheese was plentiful. My hubby had the cheesesteak sub and let me have a bite - it was onolicious! Plenty of parking, and the bathrooms were super clean! The staff was very friendly, too. I will definitely go back here to satisfy my pizza cravings while on Maui!

I'm a transplanted New Yorker and this isn't real NY pizza but it's the closest you'll come in Kihei, albeit at twice the price of a NY pie. You need to look at it as being the best you're going to get if you want pizza in this town. As long as you do that you'll settle in and become happy with what it is instead of griping about it not being your favorite Bronx or Manhattan offering. The important thing is that it tastes good. They also deliver, which is a real plus. It's thin crust, which I like, so you can eat a few slices if you're hungry so order appropriately.

    (4)
  • Amy K.

The pizza was just OK in my opinion, but I'm probably not the best person to ask since I'm not a fan of NY style pizza. Their cheesesteak sandwiches are the BEST...we even got one for the road before we went to the airport. Make sure to try it with their Hawaiian chili sauce!

  • Aaron G.

I have been eating at Shaka's for as long as they have been open. Although I no longer live in Kihei and live out of state I still make it a point to stop in and get a pizza steak or cheese steak sandwich whenever I am in town. Over the years prices have risen a bit, but I can still count on great food from a family owned and run business.I would highly advise you to stop in and get some grinds.

Not as good as tiki or pizza madness. They've lost it

Are you all stoned? Despite all of the awards, this place sucks. Small, overpriced slices ($4 each). This place claims to have NYC style slices, but I can assure you that this place wouldn't last a week in NYC. Not to mention the outdoor seating area is reminicent of a rest stop off of some freeway... And don't get me started on the clenliness. The health dept would have a heyday in there. Unless you are actually stoned, in which a case a piece of cardboard with their hot sauce on it might be pretty good, please skip this place.

Recommended by a local, and it was excellent! Very local and homey, with very fresh ingredients.

I like the Philly cheese steak here and came back for it twice just for that. I've gone to lot of cheese steak places when I lived in the east coast including Jim's in Philly, but since coming out to west coast I've been craving for authentic ones. I didn't think I'd find one in Maui! They have out door seating and location is right in Kihei, so it should be a good stop-over for people going out to the beach.

  • Jill T.

Had it delivered....Good pizza but I should have ordered it well done and requested chili pepper flakes. If it was cooked more it would have been really good! And I'm so bummed they didn't deliver it with chili pepper flakes...I guess I'm spoiled from L.A. It is nice they only have one size, makes it a no brainier....but it is big. It was jut for my daughter and I, lots of pizza.

Ordered the spinach pizza by the slice and it was amazing! Very friendly staff! Ordered a Maui brewing company IPA to go along with the pizza. The crust is thin and has great flavor. Highly recommend!

  • M R.

I am not a pizza eater but, my husband is. Being from NY, he is extremely picky on his idea of an amazing pizza and this is one! The crust is like that of what you find there. The ingredients were fresh and the pie was cooked to perfection. All pies are 18" and cost between $24-30 each. One nice thing about Shaka's is they allow you to bring outside drinks. This is perfect for those throwing a party there.

I was working in Kihei today, and I really didn't know where to go to eat today. Upon finishing my last job, I was gonna go to a place called "Coconuts Fish Cafe" but when I got there, the place was so packed........ and there was so many people waiting to get into the joint, so I decided to take a pass on this place.......since I didn't want to deal with all the crowds today. Upon picking up a dining guide for the Kihei area, I saw an add for a place called - "Shaka Sandwich & Pizza". I thought to myself - "what a cool name".........so I turned on my trusty GPS on my phone, and made my way down the road to Shaka's. Upon finding the pizza joint, the place was totally deserted, with the exception of just one couple eating a sub at a outdoor table. Upon walking into the place, a guy greats me after giving me a little time to look at the wall menu. I ended up ordering two individual slices for pizza. I ordered the following pizza slices - 1. Cheese 2. Spinach What can I saw about the pizza? Not bad..........not bad at all for the price I paid. For the two slices, I paid just $6.50.........that's pretty cheap I tell you! The pizza kinda reminds me of Boston North End Pizza..........only difference is the slices are smaller, and the topping were not has heavy in volume. Both slices I order were thin crust........it had a little chewiness to the dough/crust (I like thin crust), and the flavors of the cheese pizza was pretty good too. Nice sauce........only wished there was a bit more cheese on it. As for the spinach......I loved the toppings, it also had a hint of garlic taste to it too, but I think I like the cheese a wee bit better because I liked the tomato base sauce of the pizza. Overall a pretty good pizza joint. The prices were very reasonable, considering that your in the Kihei area, which is kind of an upscale tourist area. There is free parking in the private parking lot (parking is behind the business), it is shared with another business called Boss Frog. Also, this place only has covered open air seating..........but the place where you place your order, there is a "bar" type table where you can sit and eat.

Delivery time has improved and the pizzas are good. With a large group and lots of kids, pizza is a good alternative. Shaka has generous portions of toppings and they arrive warm. Best you'll get in South Maui.

Amazing pizza! So cheesy, so big, and so wonderful. The workers were very welcoming and friendly!

  • Marly G.

Decent prices and good pizza! Stopped by and got a Pepperoni slice and a Spinach pizza(wouldn't recommend) and a side of fries and garlic cheese bread(cheese is $1 more). After we ordered our food came out soon after that. It was hot, which was probably just heated up. But if you're in the mood for pizza stop by!!

You can tell a parlor knows their pie when you can have a plain cheese or pepperoni and devour it like you've never tried a slice in your life. Shaka has a great thin crust New York Style pizza. They make their dough fresh everyday and it just goes to show in the flavor of the crust. They also bake their bread daily for their cheese steak sandwiches - super deliciou I had never tried their pizza until Kamalii Elementary had a movie night and the pizza of choice at the snack bar was Shaka Pizza. As awesome as the flavor and quality was for take out - we were even more blown away with dine in. Great service too!

Excellent New York style slices. Just what we needed for lunch as we head back to the airport after a great 10 day trip.

Ordered 1 cheese & 1 white garlic spinach. It's NY style. THIN CRISPY crust, easy on cheese but its good, flavorful cheese, not cheap crap. If your into cheese get x2. Both great pies though. Best I've had in Maui to date. Ive hit them ALL in Kihei over 14 yrs. You can get slices too but sometimes it not fresh (not bad though) Im from AZ reminds me of Rays 83rd deer valley, but better. Its a pizza joint, not restaurant. Mostly outdoor seating, i usually take out. 23$ lrg cheese, but thats the going rate unless u go pizza hut (plz NO! Lol). Gotta try it once.

The Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich is " To Die For "' , the pizza is delicious . I love thin crusted pizza

  • Charles L.

Four stars because it's the only place in Kihei I know of where you can buy pizza by the slice!! (and get a cold can of IPA Big Swell beer with it.) Other pizza joints don't sell by the slice --except maybe at Happy Hour-- or they do, but don't sell beer.

Asked the concierge for a pizza place that would deliver to the FS hotel im Wailea and this was her rec. Great choice. I called and ordered a white pizza with spinach, hot wings, salad, and the cheesesteak. The food was delivered at exactly the time i requested. The pizza was good and i would give it a 4/5. Only comes in one size and sliced into 8 pieces. The wings were decent 3.5/5 score. Salad was whatever. The star was the cheesesteak 5/5. The 14 inch seems big, but it is not over stuffed. It is filled with the important stuff...beef, cheese, and grilled onions. The beef was soft and juicy. The cheese was melted throughout. But the best part was the soft roll it was stuffed in. I would definitely ordered this again. All in all, i would definitely order for them again. The price point was fair and decent for that area. Big plus is that they delivered.

I ordered lunch for our staff and they ended up making the wrong pizza. When we called Shaka to have them correct the problem they said that they would waive the delivery fee but wanted the old pizza back. When the new pizza came it was semi cold and didn't seem fresh. I would be very cautious when ordering from here they might give you old cold pizza!!

Food so nice I ate here twice. Cheesesteak is amazing, pizza is awesome. Was recommended to us by our guide after finishing the sunrise bike down the volcano. Eat here if you're tired of resort food, you know the stuff that's 18x what it's worth.

Average customer service expected from an order at the counter place. Food wasn't very good. It was edible Took awhile for the order to come up. Garlic bread was a thumbs down. Wings weren't bad- the hot sauce was tasty. White spinach pizza slice wasn't good - didn't even finish it. My husband didn't like the pepperoni slices he had, I thought they were the best part of the meal , which isn't saying much

  • Raven B.

Cheese Steak with onions hit the spot! loaded with flavorful steak and the French roll wasn't soggy or greasy. love that Shaka Pizza doesn't charge for delivery if your order is 12$ or more! It's been a family favorite for more than 20 years

Delicious and they deliver. The only downside is it's either by the slice or a huge 18" pizza, no other sizes available. But everyone loves leftover pizza ;)

Good pizza and can get slices. Got the white with spinach, tomato and a Hawaiian. Both very yummy. Hubby got two pepperonis and he enjoyed his too. Only a few bucks per slice. Decent deal for beach town eating. Nice people working there too.

Breaks my heart to write this review. Shaka Pizza used to be my favorite pizza place in my 'hood. Granted, I hadn't eaten there in a while because I've been off-island, but when I called up yesterday to order a pizza for dinner I found out that one pizza costs $30! My family had ordered two, and when they told us the total we had to ask the dude to repeat it three times. We were in shock. Such a bummer that I have to say "bye bye" to my local pizza joint, and order from a Pizza Hut ($11 per pizza) until I can find a good local replacement that doesn't drain my bank account.

  • Bob L.

Just had 2 slices & don't think they could put less toppings (sauce, cheese, pepperoni) on dough & still legally call it pizza. Too much focus on the bottom line & it shows. Should have driven 1/2 mile further north!

Good pizza with many options. Love that it has a huge patio to people watch and just take in Kihei

Time for an update since its been two years. Stopped for some sandwiches before heading to the beach. The service is sure going downhill. FOOD: Italian hoagie - Got it cold style, comes with salami, ham, tomato, lettuce, provolone and drizzled with Italian dressing. There was hardly any flavor and reminded me sorely of Subway. Ham & cheese hoagie - My other half's meal. Plain and simple but the order got screwed up. Asked for no onions, and it came loaded. SERVICE: The place was dead - we were the only ones in line. No greeting as we approached the counter. Male staff member took our order then immediately left to go on a delivery. No "order up" or anything announced, no bell, nothing. 10 minutes go by and my friend says they didn't even start on our sandwiches. Meanwhile, there was a guy tossing pizza dough in the front and talking to three other employees. One of them was making a take-home sandwich for one of the employees. I could see another employee in the back doing something so I figured he was making the sandwiches, but low and behold the sandwich-making counter is up front. After another 5 minutes, the female worker looks up at the order screen after playing around and realizes there was an order waiting to be made. Doesn't say anything, just makes the sandwiches. When she's done, she announces the two sandwiches and hands them over. No apology, no thank you. Great business sense, girl. OVERALL: Won't be coming back. Hoagies tasted exactly like Subway with less toppings and a higher price. I still like their pizzas but will not spend money in a place that shows no appreciation towards their customers.

Good pizza and cheese steak sandwiches. Only bummer ... No BBQ sauce for the Chicken/Pineapple pie. Their hot sauce is pretty good too on the Cheese Steak.

Yes, this is real pizza. Try the white pizza and add your favorite toppings. I couldn't stop eating it. A whole pie will cost you around 30 bucks or so, but it was SO worth it. It's a legitimately good New York style crust. Light and awesome.

  • Katrina M.

I'm not sure about all the bad reviews, we ordered 3 slices of pepperoni pizza to go and BBQ chicken wings and they were GREAT!! We couldn't stop saying how good the pizza was while we were eating it and although it seems (based on reviews) that people have said this place has changed, our first experience here was quite good. I would come here again for pizza and wings for sure.

Went here last night and were very pleased. Just realize this is not a frou frou place. One size of pizza, you will be glad you have leftovers;)). We got a combo and the flavors were great! Thin crust, chew, tasty, not like that nasty 'cracker like' crust. They also offer sandwiches, but I can't speak to those. If you are craving pizza, give them a try!! Looking forward to what we brought home for dinner tonight!

Pizza was really sad. Dry, bland, and not very much toppings. I will say that we did get it hot (we were the only people there though.) Bf and I also got cheesesteaks. Don't remember the name because there isn't much to remember, other than there were sauteed onions, cheese, steak and bell peppers. Bun to meat ratio was off for the price paid. Patio seating and self-serve cheese, utensils, etc. No a/c in the patio (Kihei is way too hot to not have a/c imo) Guys behind the counter were helpful and nice. But if I want decent tasting pizza or sandwiches, I think I'll go to Costco.

  • Makena S.

The chicken and cheese philly is still as good as ever, despite the issue I had with a phone order that hadn't even begun being made when I arrived 20 minutes after I ordered it. The staff a seemed to be working aimlessly, then realized I was there to pick up my order and a gal put the chicken on the grill...without washing her hands, and without gloves. The two giant loaves of garlic bread they gave me as a "sorry we took so long" bonus were decent.

I only bother with Yelp reviews when I either have a great experience or a super lousy one. This one was the latter. Good Lord.... I cook for living and this is hands down THE WORST PIZZA I ever had. When you are small pizza joint and your pie is worse then major national chains (Dominos etc..) you might not be doing it right. When you are a small pizza joint and your pie is worse then frozen pizzas from the supermarket you should really give up and do something else. Dough: Rubbery, stale and cardboard like Sauce: It tasted of plastic, like it was sitting in a badly washed 5 gallon plastic pale for 2 weeks. Not only that , it was bland and sad to begin with. Cheese: Cheapest mozzarella you can find on this rock. Pepperoni: OK... I guess... Also, I asked for well done pizza, and I got a flimsy, sloppy and almost undercooked pie. $26 dollars for this? Just $$&*#) wow!!!

They were delicious pizzas! We bought Afew while laying by the pool and they were a delightful snack. The chicken pesto was the favorite amongst the family. As was the hawaiian with jalapeños and maui onions. My only complaint would be the prices but it's worth it! And the cheese pizza it wasn't to flavorful but then again it's cheese pizza how is it supposed to be.

We have very good pizza in certain places in Alaska. Shaka pizza in Kihei easily rivals our favorites. Unbelievably awesome customer service and delicious New York style pizza. The only gripe that I have is that they are not open nearly late enough. If I want to make money off of tourists, I would stay open much longer. Time differences! Everyone is ahead of you. We are on vacation. We want to be able to order your product after 11pm.

    (5)
  • T S.

We went there for pizza and expected a lot better after reading reviews. The crust was so soggy you could not pick a piece up without everything sliding off. Maybe they needed to leave it in the oven longer but I thought they knew what they were doing. The chicken wings were okay. I was not impressed and will not return.

Crap. My family and I tried the pizza and holy crap we were disappointed to beyond words. The slices were thin and tasted terrible, I honestly had not had a worse slice in my life. I actually sent a picture of my slice to my then-boyfriend, who lives in New York, and he laughed at me for eating it. Worst pizza on the island. As for the service, it seems almost every high school kid on the island works there for a stint.

I stayed in Kihei for my Hawaii vacation, and was in the mood for pizza. I had seen this place while driving up and down Kihei Rd and figured I'd give it a shot. I ordered and had it delivered to my room. I got a large of their all meat pizza. It was extremely expensive as far as pizza is concerned. I paid $27 (before delivery tip!) for one large pizza and two 20oz sodas. The pizza itself was nothing to write home about at all. Nothing made it stand out from any chain store pizza I've had. Don't get me wrong, it satisfied my pizza fix, and was a very large sized pizza, but just wasn't that great. When I go back to Maui and want pizza, I'll definitely be trying someplace else.

Thin and delicious New York Style Pizza located in a place much more laid back than NYC. $2.50 for a slice of Cheese-Za, yes please I will take 2. Shaka was a awesome stop, with a great outdoor seating area & tasty grinds! Perfect spot to take the kids for a cheap lunch or grab a whole pie for the condo. This pizza aficionado approves.

  • Adam T.

TL:DR: flimsy, undercooked NY style pizza. It appears that these guys are very hot and cold, because if you read the reviews, there are plenty of lovers and plenty of haters. I unfortunately, got the short end of the stick on the pizza side, hence the 2 stars. I was told by a co-worker who spent most of his life in Maui that this is the only pizza joint to try. Given that kind of direction, I thought "how could I lose?". I was surprised that there was only 1 size of pizza and that they didn't really have many "specials". Specials, as in, "we don't fall into the traditional pizza archetype. See our delicious offerings that you can only get here!" In their defense, I probably should have taken the cue that if they didn't really specialize in pizza, that I could be set-up for failure. Anyhoo, I ordered the Hawaiian pizza, if only for novelty sake, thinking that Hawaiian pizza in Hawaii has to, by default, be FAR more delicious than Hawaiian pizza from the mainland. Well, I was wrong. Let's start with the good: The Crust. Clearly made in-house, light and fluffy interior with a slightly chewy exterior. Pretty solid. Not the best i've had, but certainly far from the worst. Let me be clear, this is pizza, so there's really no "bad" per se. However, I was disappointed by the remainder of the pie itself. Ingredients were really nothing special, which was surprising considering a good amount of the pineapple provided the US comes from Hawaii. Really flimsy, undercooked interior part of the pizza, which left ingredients all over the plate/box/my shirt. The sauce was forgettable and the cheese was standard, neither of which were plentiful. The driver was very courteous and prompt, which certainly elevated the experience, but as a whole, Shaka pizza was pretty "meh". I'd just try their sandwiches or if you're looking for pizza, try somewhere else.

WOW! Talk about greasy, gooey, amazing-ness! After a long, late night out, this pizza seemed heaven-sent...the ultimate cure to a hangover. My two girls and I got the NYC special and topped it with pepperoni. Despite having only one topping, the pizza was packed with flavor. If I had more energy, I definitely would have tried to eat another pizza all by myself. The staff and cooks were very friendly (Hello?..this IS Hawaii..the most friendly place on earth in my opinion.) The restaurant itself is very open, so you get to enjoy the fresh air and beautiful scenery Maui has to offer. Whenever I make a trip back to the rock, I'm definitely stopping by this place.

We like the delivery service. It was nice to have a clean cut, smiling gentleman arrive at our place and deliver the pizza. The pizza was great. Salads are awesome!!!!

Not ny pizza. More like fast food pizza

wow.. tastes the same as always.. like cardboard with cheese on it. worst pizza ever. ever ever. nasty.

The pizza was pretty good. We ordered a standard pepperoni pizza and it was HUGE. We ate the pizza for about 3 days. Wasn't to greasy, and the crust was perfect. Would go back!

I'm from NY and this is definetly true NY style pizza. Very thin. Great white spinach pie. Wish they delivered to Maalaea.

I went here to try the Philly Cheesesteak based on reviews. I got a 7" supreme cheesesteak with grilled onions, bell peppers and mushrooms. I also got fries that cost over $4 an order. I notice that the staff does not wear gloves when handling food, and their hands were all over the place. The place doesn't look extremely filthy, but not exactly clean either with food pieces on the floor. I didn't see anyone wash their hands while I stood there waiting for my food. I didn't see them pick their nose or anything else, so I did eat my food. The cashier that took my money, also filled Parmesan cheese containers with bare hands, dipping the containers directly into a larger cheese container. She barely spoke 2 words to me while ordering or when I walked in. A smile and a greeting goes a long way in a tourist spot. On to the food... The cheesesteak was just the right size. Lots of melted cheese. However, the beef didn't taste fresh...at all. It was tough too. I honestly don't see the hype about these. Maybe people have been on the island too long and forgot what good cheesesteaks look and taste like on the mainland. The fries were fresh, real potatoes and cooked to order. They are thick and crinkle cut, crispy and not really greasy, so that was good. Will I go back? Probably not.... The cheesesteak was just average, customer service lacking, and questionable cleanliness of employees touching all the food with bare hands.

Our favorite pizza place on the island. My bf is originally from the east coast and swears the pizza is every bit as good as his favorite New York style joints back home. I'd absolutely have to agree. The cheesesteaks are YUMMMM! Seriously, did I mention yum? We live right down the street from the famed flatbread pizza co in Paia but at least a couple times a month we head over to Shaka to get our fix. They blow flatbread out of the water.

For those that commented that the pizza here is like a NY pizza, obviously has never been to NY! This was the worse pizza I have ever eaten. Yes it was a thin crust pizza but it was so flimsy that it fell and all I was holding was the edge of the crust. Definitely not going back here.

OMG.... I never heard the owner of a restaurant say what this owner said to me. Worst customer service ever... I purchased 3 slices of pizza then 15 min later I went in for another slice, they said they were out of slices so I was willing to wait but they refuse to cook another pizza they said that I would have to order another 3 slices if I wanted them to bake a pizza. I talked to the owner and told him that was bad customer service and he agreed with me then said "OH WELL... It IS WHAT IT IS".... Then I asked him if he's willing to loose a customer over a pizza and he said "I GUESS" Most places will give a pizza before they lose a customer but this guy rather save a pizza AND lose a customer. All I wanted was a slice not the whole pizza and I was willing to pay for it too. Unfortunately some places don't value good customers that is why they don't prosper. They need to remember that good Customers are the reason why they are still in business. But this place just lost a good customer.

  • Jason W.

It was thin and big like a good slice should be, but it was way too much on the greasy side. I prefer Costco pizza over that any day.

  • Eric C.

I came here after reading the reviews that claimed this place had the best cheese steak on the island. They were right. And I'll tell you what. It's the bread that makes it. Yes, the steak, white American cheese, and grilled onions are delicious. But it's the soft and quite thin roll that gives you a great even bite of everything. Usually, cheese steaks have too much bread and not enough steak. Not here. It's the perfect combination.

  • Paul P.

Delicious cheesesteaks. Warm, soft bread. Lean, flavorful meat. All of the usual toppings are available. A bit pricy, but not exhorbitant for Maui. Pizza is thin crust, again a bit pricy but good. Try the white pizza. Never had a bad meal at Shaka's. They deliver too, if you stay in for dinner and don't feel like cooking.

  • The Food C.

Good pizza, good price for the 18" thin crusted pizza. We came on a Friday night, no wait at all. We had the garlic bread as an appetizer. Easy parking in the rear. Only downside: no beer or liquor sold. Good for a quick and easy lunch too!

    (4)
  • Mike M.

Great food at a decent price, they even deliver as far as Makena, everything on the menu is good and delivery arrives piping hot, the pizza is actually exceptional though! We love the place.

  • X X.

Almost $20 on a crappy chicken cheesesteak! It was a very NARROW 14 inch cheesesteak. I was very disappointed in this place. $20 for food would be spent better elsewhere or even at Foodland!

  • Vivian L.

Going on a 2 year anni with my boyfriend in Maui, I went on yelp to see what was good and close by. I ended up finding this place on here and passed it many times going back and forth to the store. This place has a huge sign you wont miss and parking is in the back. I ordered the cheese steak with onions and extra cheese [cheese loover] we were told to take a seat outside and the food was going to be brought to us :] the wait was okay, even though it was empty it could've been faster, anyways.. IT WAS AWESOME! really good cheesesteak, and the cheese melted perfectly :D price is just as the same as any cheese steak place. around $6-7

  • Wendye M.

Worst pizza ever !! The dough is tasteless and the cheese the same. I have had better frozen pizza. Only comes in one size and is a waste for smaller families. If anyone likes this pizza has never had a good one!! I live in Alaska and have a couple great places. If you ever visit Alaska order from Muldoon Pizza. Yummm. They could sure give Shaka a lesson in buying good tasting cheese!,

  • Annette B.

Good pizza. Terrible garlic bread and the WORST chicken wings I have ever had! Stay away from anything but the pizza!

    (3)
  • Danforth Ridgewell Rutherford V.

Really, when your pizza is delivered cold, costs 30+ dollars for a single pizza, and tastes worse than a chain restaurant its time to reconsider your business model. Terrible, terrible, terrible. Advice to Maui tourists: if you want a pizza from a local restaurant, go to Fabianis or Pizza Madness. If you want delivery, get Roundtable - both of these choices are literally 3X better and either cheaper or the same price as this tired hell hole.

My husband and I are originally from Philly and were really craving pizza after a long hike on Mt. Haleakala. Ordered a cheese pizza and devoured it. Was just like from back home. Thanks!

Cool spot to grab a slice or 2 before or after the beach. My first slice was delicious! So i bought another, realized it was So good because i was starving. Not that it wasnt good anymore, but i just was able to taste the quality of the cheese more. Not California mozz cheese...it was more of a runny soft melted cheese taste. Not my fav at all. Their sauce was delicious though, and BF loves the spot. . Decent price $2.99 for a slice with 1 topping. Out in Hollywood u can get then same but the slices are MUCH bigger and the bottom is slightly crisped.

  • Connie W.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but my visit to Shaka's was average at best. The boyfriend and I stopped by for dinner, totally spent from an afternoon at the beach. We split a 7" supreme cheesesteak and a slice of cheese pizza. I enjoyed the crispy, NY-style crust for the pizza but found nothing thrilling about the ingredients. This is sounds bad, but we were wishing for a slice of Costco pizza instead -- cheaper and heartier with additional toppings. The same blasé feeling could be said for the cheesesteak too, which had a lot more to offer but still felt short for the $8 price tag. I realize it's a local establishment, but I've had much better sandwiches elsewhere. The restaurant itself left me with a good impression though. Plenty of clean covered and uncovered outdoor seating, condiments and to-go supplies readily available. Worth stopping by due to it's convenient location.

I finally tried Shaka Pizza last night since I was to lazy to drive to Pizza Madness... Shaka was good not as good as Pizza Madness but not bad either.. It was more expensive and not as cheesy as Pizza Madness but all and all it wasn't bad...

    (3)
  • S B.

Got to say I've been a fan for many, many years but Shaka has lost its lusture. The sandwiches have virtually no meat content, or cheese and are basically a lettuce sandwhich. The pizza has become bland (how do you do that)? Service is slow even when empty. And $18 for a sub, well even By Maui standards it's a bit much. Gotta say I miss the "Old Shaka".

    (2)
  • Mark F.

Great pizza, but it needed a bit more cheese, a a bit more flavor in your sauce. Your fries were amazing.

    (4)
  • Laura B.

Good pizza and it's great that they deliver.

    (3)
  • Jeremy E.

Pizza blows. BUT, if all we got were cheesesteaks we would have given it a 5. They are top 3 I have ever had and I am an east coast boy who had cheesesteaks once a week growing up. Also, they don't take credit cards which kinda ticked me off.

    (3)
  • Angela J.

The pizza here was hot, fresh, and tasty. The people working here were very friendly.

  • Dustin D.

Shaka has great pizza, Italian hoagies, and cheese steaks. My wife and I have had a little bit of everything on there menu over the last 6 months. We have ordered whole pies, and I have had there pizza by the slice. We have been happy with all of there food. We have even picked up a pizza to take to the beach where we enjoyed a sunset and a beer. There pizza has a good crust and all of the topping have great flavor. The pepperoni isn't too greasy and the sausage has a great flavor. And a huge plus is that they use fresh mushrooms not canned. :) The only thing I wish Shaka would add to there menu is hot wings. Having grown up in Arizona I can honestly say that I have ordered wings with my pizza 100% of the time. Pizza a wings go together like cheese and wine, or salty and sweet, or burgers and fries. :)

This is one of those places I've had a thousand times but i've never stepped foot inside of the restaurant because they deliver. I started getting Shaka after Wiki Wiki Pizza went out of business. It's pretty alright and a little on the expensive side but it's standard for Maui food prices. I do love their Hawaiian pizza. Haven't tried their sandwiches yet...

  • Shazam L.

Rating from a pre-teen kid with highly sensitive palate who loves Spago. Best thing is fairly good pizza, good delivery service, fast and efficient. Beats out any overpriced beach pool bar food!

We got the Hawaiian, really tasty pizza.

  • Julia B.

Monster pizzas brah, got hunger? - come here after the beach. No need to dress up, sit outside and chow down. Handy aluminum foil and paper bags to pack any extras back to your fridge at home. Bonus geocache at the door if you are into geocaching.

  • Rhodora E.

This local Sandwich shop / pizzeria serves killer grilled steak sandwiches and gooey, cheesy, pizza's. After a week of having nothing but local food I gotta tell you that by the end of my 5th day I was craving something a little more like home. We stumbled upon this restaurant and came back 3 times to get our grub on. Huge parking at the back within a block away from the beach with plenty of outdoor and indoor seating.

  • Theresa L.

My husband and I stopped at this pizza shop after a long day in the sun. On an island full of tourists, you wouldn't necessarily expect the warm welcome I got from one of the employees of this place (possibly the owner?). Not only was the pizza delicious, they happily wrapped up our leftovers and added "to go" parmesan and oregano. Incredibly fantastic service. Made us feel like we were part of their family. I couldn't ask for anything else from a business!

Coming in from the East Coast I can safely say hands down that I am qualified to rate a pizza place , having travelled extensively in New Jersey where the next pizza is better than the last pizza. These guys at Shaka Pizza make the very BEST PIZZA ON MAUI , hands down. The guy BILL who owns the place is from (where else) South Jersey and his crust , sauce and cheese come together to make a FABULOUS PIE! Don't even waste your time going anywhere else folks , this is THE SPOT! Aloha, Paul Old Saybrook , CT

I get a little paranoid when I see any eaterie, especially a Pizza joint waving the "Voted best by etc " flag outside the building. I had the cheesesteak with the works...THAT was very good. Well done.. We later had the pizza on takeout. Like a previous visit, it was ok in the flavor department but sloppy and runny to eat. A definite knife and fork affair. THe ingredients tend to slide off the crust turning your pizza into a type of Italian soup on a plate....Overall, its not a bad place at all. Just falls a bit short of expectations. Nice people, clean dining area if you choose to eat in.

Holy Dough, this pizza is good!! We have come here many times before and gotten single slices, which are mediocre at best. So the other night, when we decided to get a whole pizza, I was prepared to be underwhelmed. BUT NO!! This pizza was AMAZING! The thin crust is fantastic and a fresh slice of this pizza is to die for. Skip the individual slices that are sold in the shop and get a whole pizza, you won't regret it. My husband and I tried Pizza Madness tonight on several recommendations and found that we both left feeling cheated. Shoulda gone to Shaka. Edit: Ok, now I see......tonight we ordered Shaka for delivery. DON'T EVER try this!! Not only was our pizza an hour late, but it was not fresh and evidently the secret to fabulous Shaka pizza is that you have to eat it right when it comes out of the oven. Removing a star, sorry Shaka.

Pizza in Maui? Yeah, I have weird cravings sometimes. We saw the huge sign, driving up and down Kihei, so I finally gave in to my desire and stopped by to give it a try. They sell pizza for $3/slice. It's thin, new york style pizza. We got ours togo, and it was still pretty good by the time we got back to the hotel. If eaten immediately, I think it would be a lot better. If I'm craving pizza again, I'd come here. But I'd make sure to eat it in the car, before it gets soggy. :)

    (3)
  • Jason G.

I bought a slice of pepperoni pizza for $2.99. The slice was rather small but the taste was still pretty good. Everything is made fresh when you order it, so there is a small wait time but its definitely worth it. Pizza was cooked to perfection =) and the crust was soft and chewy yet it still have a nice crisp to it !!! :)

We were sitting at the pool at the Grand Wailea. We were sick of eating the pool menu. So we called up Shaka, got the valet to bring up our car and drove on down to get our pizzas. We brought them back to the pool and chowed down! They were so flipping awesome! LOVE IT!!!!

  • Hana M.

Soggy and expensive sums up our recent dining experience at Shaka. We ordered a Cesar salad and a veggie delight pizza. Salad was comparable to a fast food salad you might get a McDonalds (only 3 times the price) and the pizza was a wet soggy mess. Pizza comes in one size only...huge! We spent 40 bucks on the two of us and now we just have a lot of leftover crappy pizza. Do yourself a favor and hit up Tiki Lounge or Pizza Madness if you are craving pizza (Hell, even Roundtable is better...at least they have a salad bar and different sizes to order). Nothing like sitting next to S Kihei Rd and breathing exhaust while you eat. Don't waste your time with this joint.

People warned us that you don't go to Hawaii for the food and places like this prove the point. Granted, I've been lucky enough to live in SF and NYC and currently live in Seattle which has an amazing selection of great and affordable places to eat. We ordered a couple of pies for delivery and while they were not bad they were also not memorable in any way. It was as average as pizza can get without actually being bad. If this place were I SF, NYC or Seattle I'd likely only give it 2 stars given the competition. I really don't get all the 4 star ratings.

  • ToLga O.

I really didnt expect to see a good quality subshop in Maui, dont know why? However this place was a nice suprise. I highly recommend steak cheese with mushrooms on hoogies. Here is a tip, ask for extra cheese.... you can thank me later. I never got to try their thin crust NY style pizza, too bad.. may be next time.

  • Jennifer Y.

Yes I have to agree, NO on the pizza and get the best damn Cheese steak sandwich you will ever eat! I followed the advice of other Yelpers and they were so right. I normally wouldn't even eat a steak sandwich! I am a pizza fanatic! But get the Cheese steak for sure! I was staying at the Grand Wailea and they delivered to my hotel! It was a nice departure from $50. little sandwich meals etc.

cheeeese steak sandwich!! I am claiming that this is the best cheese steak in the country. You would think philly has better cheese steak but you'd be wrong. This was our last stop to the airport and it will be my first stop if I get the opportunity to come back. The bread, cheese and steak complemented each other perfectly to make a great sandwich.

  • Darrell C.

Overall service was excellent. One of the guys gave us a complimentary garlic bread while we waited for our pizza. I would definitely go back there again.

A cheesesteak with sweet Maui onions... yeah it's as good as it sounds! I didn't get anything else besides steak, cheese, onions and bread; and I'm glad that I did. Anything else would have distracted me from the simple perfection. I tried some of my girlfriend's cheesesteak which had the works on it plus hot sauce (it wasn't that hot), and it over-powered the sandwich in my opinion. The bread was also terrific. I didn't try the pizza.

  • Eric F.

The New York style pizza was horrible. It really had no taste at all. I have no idea how people like this. I swear the frozen pizza in grocery stores kicks this pizzas a..... I think everyone reviewing this saying it is good had to be completely bombed when eating this. Go ahead if you want, but this place sucks.

    (1)
  • Marnie A.

There is more than just pizza on the menu. The subs and cheesesteaks looked really good but we went with the pizza. This place is nothing special except it is an affordable meal for a family of 4 in Maui.

    (3)
  • Mary D.

Got pizza by the slice: white gourmet spinach and a new york cheese. Definitely thin crust pizza, and the spinach was better than the cheese, but both weren't anything to write home about. Also ordered a caesar salad and that was surprisingly good.

    (2)
  • Kei ..

did a decent job on the pizza. make sure you let the pizza cool 1st before trying to eat it. had the hawaiian & combo. we are use to "a slice of ny" back home...that guy can make a excellent ny pizza!

    (3)
  • Z G.

The pizza was ok not great or anything special, I guess I should've tried the cheessteaks. Nextime! I don't think they have beer. What happened to Pizza and Beer?

    (2)
  • Liz S.

i thought the pizza was really great and i'm a new yorker! really good crust too, although if i'm going to be really picky and compare it to the best ny pizza i've ever had... it wasn't crunchy enough on the bottom. we didn't try the cheesesteaks but would definitely be back for the pizza again! mmm it was good oh except the drinks out of the fountain were warm... gross. we threw them out as soon as we took a sip

    (4)
  • David L.

OK, this is officially my favorite pizza place in the world. I've never been to NY, but I imagine that this has got to be close to it. I tell people who are going to Maui to come here, and they come back raving about the place too. I can't wait to go to Maui and get more Shaka pizza. Maui has some hit-or-miss eateries, and the first time we went to Maui, we hated everything we ate. Then we got that Maui Revealed book and ate much better the second time around. But we found Shaka pizza just because we drove by it and felt like pizza. We must have gone back 5 times more while we were there. Eating pizza on a balcony overlooking Sugar Beach just does not get old! The oven-baked subs were awesome as well, but I din't know about the cheesesteak, so cheesesteak and I, consider that a date!

  • cubs w.

If you stay in wailea, order a cheesesteak from Shaka. They deliver to your hotel and it;s pretty damn good. Plus, the price is much lower than you would get in wailea.

SHAKA PIZZA! We got the pizza with sausage and mushrooms and it was excellent. We also got the grilled turkey & cheese hogie. I can't wait to go back.

Great Pizza and Cheese steaks. Always stop by when I'm in town for lunch. Recommended by a local.

The pizza ain't the best but it's decent...my kid likes it...we mostly go 'cause she wants to eat here. It's cheap, they deliver and not too much more.

The cheesesteak sandwiches are great. My wife is a conisour, and said these were very good. (I can't speak about anything else.)

  • Lisa Marie M.

Mediocre pizza and nothing more. I came here for lunch with my sweetie and we both felt the pizza was nothing special. It tastes like Papa John's pizza. The bread doe lacks any kind of unique taste as does the sauce. I prefer thin crust, NY style pizza pies, but when your hungry for pizza in Maui, you settle on Shaka. It's cheap, fast and fills you up when you're hungry. Only thing, I walked out feeling like I was needing something better to eat.

    (2)
  • Keoni U.

This pizza is the BOMB. Closest pizza to NYC in the pacific!! That HI water must be like NY! Only 1 size served here but they also have slices. I can probably eat the whole pizza because it is so thin. A lil pricey though but just like NYC. I heard there cheesesteak is good but nevah tried dem.

    (5)
  • Alexandra P.

Although the pizza has declined a bit over the years the cheese steaks are still awesome

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
