The beef's flavor & texture tasted like bad cafeteria food. The menu was pricey and the service was poor. Unfortunately Maui Taco's doesn't live up to what folks would expect. I'm sure tourists will try it just for its namesake.

This place is so bad I took a bite of the fish tacos and I spit it out. The only thing that was good was the sauce which is pretty sad because that wasn't even good. Never ever eat here even to survive.

Stopped in right before 8pm and while service was friendly we were disappointed that or Lahaina burrito was really just a rice burrito. $7.95 for a small portion of rice is too much.

From California (both SoCal & NorCal)...I had the Hana BBQ pork burrito. Really tasty, filled with lots of delicious, moist, large chunks of shredded pork. Also rice, cheese, onion, and cilantro. Paired nicely with pineapple tamatillo salsa. Only negative is the tortilla isn't as fresh. 8/10 bites for a quick lunch stop.

Can I give this place 0 Stars! Service was horrible!!!! Pregnant wife and I walk in and wait patiently in line. Get up to the counter and then are told "I'm sorry we are closed!" We had been in line before they were closed...words do not even begin to describe my frustration.

  • Heidi R.

The older lady working the counter is incredibly bitter and rude. Tried to conquer with kindness, but nope! Whatever. The chef was sweet and makes a decent veggie taco.

Horrible customer service. Burrito and grilled chicken bowl served lukewarm...girl behind the counter cares about her phone more than us!

Decent nachos, and I rather like their several salsa choices, but the whole place is just kind of dirty and grungy, and every single one of the people tending to tables were high. I mean high out of their minds. It took one of the workers about two minutes to remember what he was asking for when he needed to see my ID for a beer. Lots of "umms" and "uhhs" and nervous laughs on his end, and a lot of this-can't-really-be-happening laughs from mine. A different worker then brought out cups of water. One of them was about 40% full. Not sure if he got too high and forgot to fill up the rest, but I wasn't happy. A different worker, who went to get our bill, seemed to have forgotten that we were there. I had to remind him several times that we wanted our bill so we could pay and leave. Hilariously bad. Hilariously high. Hilariously do-not-return.

this was the worst place I have ever eaten in Maui. if u want a good fish taco, go to coconuts. they had the best fish tacos I have ever had. anyway, maui tacos was horrible and everything about it was dirty. I will never eat there AGAIN!!

We were looking for some fast food and saw this place. Having many times eaten at a Taco Bell I thought that this would be better. It was not. The food had little flavor and the service was unremarkable.

I like Maui Tacos. The food is good, but expensive for what you get. The salsa is very fresh, and this is what brings me in. I like the quesadilla especially with the mild salsa. The fish bowl with a few chips, rice, black beans, fish, and a crema sauce (I skip the cabbage) is really good, and it's great with extra salsa. The service is generally good. There isn't any inside seating, but there are tables outside

Great food but most of the people working there aren't to friendly. Last Friday the big chick that works there closed the place 15 minutes early even though the plaza was pretty busy. I guess she had better places to be on a Friday night than at work. It would be nice if they didn't lock their doors a quarter of an hour early so their workers can go get tossed at Tiki's.

My husband and I were really excited to try this place out since we saw some great reviews about them. When we came in, the girl at the counter (younger, brown hair, tattoos, no name tag) greeted us as if she didn't like her job or didn't want to serve us. Either way, we just shrugged it off because we were more excited about the food. First, we ordered the taquito combo. The girl told us that they were out of taquitos. Ok, no big deal... Then, we ordered nachos with steak. Again, she told us they were out of steak!! What kind of restaurant or food place is out of food at 12 noon on a Tuesday?! Whatever, so we just decided to order a chicken taco and enchilada combo and the beef nachos since we were really hungry. Awesome! They had it and they weren't out of it! After we got our food from the girl, she turned around and went right on her cellphone. How rude and unprofessional!! As we ate our food, we lost our appetite. It was so bland! The only thing decent were the chicken tacos. In addition, The salsas were so watery and tasteless. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. A taco costs almost $6 for a drive through kind of quality. Their food is tasteless and bland. The employee is rude and unprofessional. If I'm the consumer paying for a meal, I'm expecting at least some decent food and service. I did not get that here.

Horrible customer service, bad attitudes and flavorless. When we walked in, the cashier didn't even look up at all, she was more concerned about drawing cats. She finally looked up when we said we'd like to order. The order came out wrong. We asked that it be fixed, the cook in the back actually gave me a scowl stink eye look and mumbled to the cashier. In the end the food was bland and not worth the attitude, time or money. Steer clear of this place. If you want real taco's visit La Tienda Del Sol on Lipoa in Kihei: yelp.com/biz/la-tienda-d…

we ordered the nachos, fish taco, chicken mango salad, and bbq chicken burrito wet. the nachos and chicken mango salad were decent, fish taco didnt have nearly as much fish as in the picture (but of course). the burrito looked great, but I never took a bite because I took it back after finding a fly in the sauce. thought it was an errant bean at first but then saw the legs...

Rude! The employees appeared mad that I was interrupting their day. Then, they got my order wrong. There were no beans in the Baja Tacos as advertised. When I told them the order was wrong the cashier took it back to the cook who looked through the kitchen opening to glare at me. I will not be back to this location.

Great burritos - our fave was the "veggie Haiku" which had black beans, potatoes, rice and all the other fixings that make a burrito tasty. Would recommend ordering it "wet" (a warm red sauce that goes on top with some shredded cheese, which melts for some added oozy goodness, for $1.50 extra) won't regret it! This was one of our go to take-out go to's while staying in Kihei. Fish tacos also fresh and yummy! Not huge, but filling expecially when ordered as a combination meal along with beans and rice. Loved how our orders came with tortilla chips and a help yourself salsa bar!

Pros: The price is somewhat cheap, but it is still gross. Cons: The meat was rubbery, the food was barely edible--there is so much good food in Maui, no need to eat here. Fun: You can sit outside in a strip mall. There are much better places to sit outside in Maui though!

I will never go here again. It looks dirty and the food is not great. Not much more to write than that.

Great place for cheap (woo-hoo!) Mexican food. Their tacos y burritos are muy bueno. Can be a little greasy, but good nonetheless. Seems to be a local fav. I'd equate it to Jalapenos around here. Gooood stuff.

A nice snack after a morning at the beach. You really can't mess up a taco, but the salsa bar really makes the meal. Top it all off with a smootie from Jamba juice and you are enjoying some simple pleasures.

BLEGH! We went here for a quick bite before having to catch a flight back to Oahu. Since we didn't know the area, our choices were limited. And since I've seen a Maui Tacos in NYC and always wanted to try it, I thought, why not! Boy was I wrong. I had the Baja Grilled Fish Taco. I don't know if it was just this location or if it's like that everywhere but the fish was EXTREMELY dry. I'm not even sure what kind of fish it was but it tasted like how dry dog food looks. I was hesitant to use the self serve fix-in bar in that hole in the wall, but my taco looked like it would need something extra. The people who worked there looked like they were on the path to living in their mother's basement, while working there for the rest of their lives in order to support their marijuana habits. My sister ordered the taco salad. After the guy swept the floor, he didn't wash his hands or put on gloves or anything and went to wrap up the taco salad. Granted, he didn't actually touch the food but that's still pretty disgusting... Avoid at all costs! You might be better off eating the dog food.

I have TRIED to like this place. I really, really have. I have gone back and tried to experiment with different items from the menu, at different times of the day. But the service is always disinterested. And the food... oh my goodness, they have a temperature problem. I got a breakfast burrito once and it wasn't cooked all the way through! The only thing I can think that's positive about this place is that the food portion isn't horrific. But still, what you're paying for - there is no value!

The group I was with had a hankering for tacos, downtown Kihei. With no 'authentic' local taco stand around, we headed to Maui Taco. I had pretty low expectations, given other Yelp reviews and the fact that we were in the middle of one of the most touristy blocks in town. I was actually pleasantly surprised with my fish taco. There was lots of fish, albeit a little bland. The 'jalepeno sauce' was really creamy but had ZERO spice. That was good for the one spice-hater we had in the group. If you like it a little more spicy, perhaps ask for no sauce and top it off instead with one of the more spicy salsas. I enjoyed the salsa bar. There were 6 different types, each with a different flavor and heat level. The salsa bar also had raw onions, sautéed onions, pickled jalepenos, cilantro and corn. Good toppings for the taco as well as the side order of chips we got! We had really good service, but by reading other reviews, we might have just been lucky. Overall, I would go back based on the experience we had this time.

If you're looking for a one dollar taco; this is not the place. But if you're for a quality fish taco with soft fish thats not dried out, fresh quality ingredients, and something filling; then stop by Maui Tacos. My co-workers came here for lunch one day... and the continued to come here for lunch for the next week or so. There is so much flavor in their fish tacos its outstanding. Normally, I'm pretty reluctant to order fish, because it normally comes out dry, but these guys got it down good. If your more of a burrito kind of guy/gal, for a little over $10, you can grab a huge burrito, but be prepared, its a lot of food. Good to share between a couple people. Also, if you have room for dessert, check out their banana chingaling. Its basically deep fried bananas with caramel and ice cream. Its awesome. And if your not a banana fan, check out their deep fried ice cream. Ya.. its awesome. For less than $10, I got two fish tacos, some chips, a lot of rice and a lot of beans. Not bad. Pros: - Fresh ingredients - A lot of menu items to choose from - Clean establishment - Helpful staff (See Ivan, she's awesome) - Ample parking - Amazing fish tacos - Good portion sizing for the $ Cons: - No indoor seating, but plenty of outdoor seats with shade

Easy, good, kid friendly, affordable. It's also in a food court in case your kids want something else and they take the Isle Card for a 10% discount. What more could you want in paradise?

Gooooood...no....GREAT...tacos. Baaaadd....no...HORRIBLE pricing. I mean, I know this is Maui...but $16 for TWO tacos, a soda, and a water? Wow....

If I could give negative stars, I would. Worst food I have ever had on Maui. Period. The cook constantly glared at me because I happen to actually talk to his help. I mean place was so crowded with the ghosts of disgruntled ripped off customers of the past, that he probably thought is was filled to capacity. I have eaten at Maui Tacos on Kihei road and on Oahu - GREAT FOOD AND SERVICE. This dump was the antithesis of great. Poor service is a compliment. Lousy food is several steps up from what we were served. One person described it as dog food. My dog wouldn't even sniff this stuff, much less eat it and you know what dogs like to sniff. Please do not think that I have an ax to grind because if I did it would be buried in the cooks okole. There is a shop two doors down that was overflowing with locals. Good grinds it looked like. Should have gone there and had Loco Moco. OK, I have complained enough. I hope you get the picture. Where to go instead? Try the Maui Taco places on South Kihei road - More Betta. One more point - the door needs fixing. It sucks. Literally.

Yum. Two mahi-mahi tacos and a large horchata. Tacos were huge and filled with fresh fried mahi, cabbage and black beans. The salsa bar was great - it addition to several types of salsa and varying degrees of hotness they also had corn salad, grilled onions and peppers, fresh cilantro and chopped onion. Hit the spot! Make sure you sit under an umbrella while enjoying your meal. That sun is hot hot hot!

The WORST Burrito "Lahaina" I've ever had anywhere!!!. WE WERE RIPPED OFF! Last Sat we stopped for a pre-lunch. No one was there so the service was fine. $8.00 for a all RICE Burrito, where's the Chicken , Guac, or anything else?? I was in a rush so I didn't return it for a full refund. Corp better get a grip quick or your days will be #'ed, trust me!. If your hungry go next door to Safeway and order a sandwich, they are much better, in fact really good!

Well, it was the last day of our vacation and we were looking for a quick, light dinner before heading back to the condo, so we decided to give Maui Tacos a try. We had gone there a couple of years ago, on another visit, and were unhappy; thus had not gone back. This time, however, we were pleasantly surprised how much the food had improved. The girlfriend and I shared a shredded beef burrito and chips which was plenty for us. The burrito was filled full of fresh ingredients and generous portions of beef. Overall, we were pleased with the quality and value of the food at this place and will likely stop by again on our next visit.

Rude...Avoid this location. We arrived 10 minutes to 8pm. To find the place empty and the person running the register talking on the phone. No "Hi or acknowledgement. Another couple arrive behind us. After the cashier finally gets off the phone, she stares at us, and finally I have to break the silence and ask, Are you still open?. To which she replies, "yes" then quickly disappears into the back of the store. When she finally comes back she never asks us what we would like to order. We finally tell here we know what we want to order and get to place and pay for our order. The people behind us also place their order and pay for their food. Now the cashier gets back on the phone and starts complaining that there are "people" in the store. After a little bit I guess the person recommends she yank the music and she turns off the Muzak. Look, I came to Maui Tacos to get some food TO GO not because I was looking to listen to your crappy music or hang in your store with no atmosphere or place to sit and eat. The salsa bar was covered and I had to ask for 2 spoons to get some salsa to go with my food. If you were Closing and didn't want the business you should have said so. If you Posted your hours of business, and it said you closed at 8pm, I would have skipped this location and gone down to Kihei Road to your other (and better) locations. After such horrible service I will avoid this place and I recommend you do too.

Yes we officially found the worst place in Kihei. We hoped to skip lunch and eat Cold Stone Creamery but not opened yet so we opted for a Fish Burrito and my husband had taquitos. The moment we walked in we encountered the most drab service provider yet. Wow-she must hate her job. The food was lacking flavor and no hot sauce, salsa would have helped..we did not finish it and ended up eating most of my daughters subway sandwich. Crud, hate that. I heard great things about them. Maybe an off day??

30 bucks for 4 fish tacos and some drinks?! Holy cow this place is a gip. $4.99 for one fish taco. And is wasn't really authentic in my opinion and the service wasn't very friendly. I won't be back.

Excellent authentic tacos. The Pork Taco is fabulosa!

  • Susan S.

Not a bad lunch option, although the fish tacos pale in comparison to Coconuts down the road. They are cheaper, though, so maybe that's OK. A less generous portion and the fish is breaded as a filler.

Our family ate there on July 28, 2009 after arriving in Maui, the food is good as always but the girl working the front counter was a zero. With a poor economy these days no one should hire someone with a poor customer attitude.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
