On the way to the beach, we decided to stop in at L&L to get some plate lunch to eat while swimming. L&L is located in a strip mall in Kihei. The server lady was super friendly and welcomed us! We ordered the combination BBQ plate - which was Kalbi, teriyaki meat, and teriyaki chicken. All were very tasty. Served with a scoop of rice and macaroni salad. We enjoyed our meals and were glad that we stopped in. Food Grade: B+ Service Grade: A- Worth the Money Grade: B+ Overall Impression Grade: B+

My hubby, having never been to Hawaii, wanted some authentic Hawaiian food for lunch while in Kihei. I am no Hawaiian food connoisseur so I can't speak to the authenticity of their food - but we came to L & L Drive Inn because of its proximity to where we were. I really wanted the grilled mahi mahi but they were out apparently, so I stumbled and decided to have the small portion of crispy garlic shrimp with rice. My hubby ordered his favorite - chicken katsu. The server seemed annoyed with me when I asked if a drink was included with my combo (it wasn't), so I dined w/o a drink. Food came and my shrimp were seriously delicious. Only downside is the crispy garlic flavor was really only on the shells to which I peeled off, so the only garlic flavor I got was from licking my fingers (-1). Hubby's katsu was okay - huge portion, he loved the mac salad, but the katsu wasn't incredible (-1).

I love L&L, this is the first one I ever went to and have since been to one out in San Diego a few times. Pina Col and Teriyaki Chicken w/ rice and mac salad, mmmm... I'm now a fan and wish they had one around DC.

The customer service is impeccable. They really embody the aloha spirit. I highly recommend this place for local grinds. I don't go to Kihei that often but I would go here again.

Used to be one of my fav places. But prices have gone up (I understand the reasons why) & food is just not as good anymore. Last visit there I spent $9 and was disappointed.

Good, cheap, plate lunch! The mahi, not so hot, kinda tough. The steak, mmmmm.

It was the first time I ate at a L & L. I heard that they are in California too. I didn't know what to expect. The food was good despite it is a fast food restaurant.`Good place to get local Hawaiian food.

Our first meal in south Maui was Da Kitchen but it seemed a little on the seedy side (the whole S Kihei Rd reminded me of Myrtle Beach strip). Our second meal was going to be Cafe O Lei but after seeing the entree prices starting at $18.95, we walked away. We were looking for local kine food at reasonable prices. After asking a local we found L&L Drive-Inn Hawaiian Barbecue. DELISH combo platters for about $10 for a mountain of food - was just what we were looking for, more so with our schedule. This awesome restaurant is in a very nice clean plaza with lots of parking that also has a 24 hour grocery store, gas station, Starbucks and a Maui Tropix! My wife and I ended up eating here 5 days in a row - sometimes twice a day! Breakfast was enough to keep us full so that we could stay out on the beach and ocean all the way until dinner time. We then would go back and have dinner! Shrimp Saimin for breakfast was perfect to start us off and leave us hungry for lunch time. The BBQ Mix Platter with their standard 2 scoops of rice and macaroni piled with short ribs, teriyaki beef and BBQ chicken was my favourite! You can substitute with healthier options - brown rice and side greens. The Seafood Platter was delicious as well! Another neat feature is that the menu lists all the calories you are packing in - in case you're worried about fitting into your boardshorts or bikini! Bonus was the amazing staff! Every staff member was absolutely friendly and helpful!

It's your standard L&L kinda stuff. Nothing fancy, but good prices for Maui for your standard plate lunches and other stuff. But I was pretty surprised that they don't have Spam musubi! Does that surprise anyone else? But if I'm staying anywhere around Kihei to Makena, I would still make a stop here for a decent inexpensive meal.

Great local Hawaiian style food. They really helped me in a pinch when I needed a party tray of Chicken Katsu and Steamed Rice. They had it made in 10 minutes. Pretty impressive.

I ordered the kahlua pork mini plate and wasn't disappointed. It was steaming hot, the pork was salty but not overly so and cabbage wasn't over cooked. While it was a mini plate it was still a decent serving and honestly all you should probably eat unless you just ran a marathon or work in construction. The food was fast, the woman behind the counter was pleasant, and the price was reasonable. Might not be the best plate lunch on the island but not a bad choice.

Oct. 6, 2014- 8:40am My boyfriend got the Loco Moco. It was OK. Good amount of gravy. Came with two patties and two eggs. Cashier told me the gravy spilled a little but it spilled a lot. Look like she tried to put it in the bag, the gravy spilled out and was just lazy to clean it up. Wasn't busy at all. I got the seafood combo came with three fried shrimp a little piece of Mahi and I chose bbq chicken. Chicken is always good. Shrimp & Mahi was good also. Got it with fried rice. It was a little mushy and I found a tiny hair in it. Kinda ruined it, but yeah.

I had the loco moco with curry and the bbq combination (kalbi short ribs, chicken, beef teriyaki). It was pretty good. The loco moco with curry was very good. I like this more than the traditional way loco moco is prepared with gravy. Too bad other L&Ls don't do this. The BBQ combination was also very good. This place is open at 4:30am every morning so it's also great if you have an early job (or a really late night) and want to get something to eat. I'll be back!

This L&L stands out from the other L&Ls because they value the importance of quality food along with exceptional service. By far my favorite L&Ls on Maui. The food is good and so are the portions.

Way better food here versus the mainland L & L restaurants. Fast service family environment . Crinkle fries are great, chicken is moist, great place for a quick plate meal

Good place. I love the BBQ chicken plate. They always fill up their plates with a lot of food. Also has very nice and friendly staff.

I cant believe their plates are $9.38-$9.70. Plus they charge $1.50 for brown rice AND 44 cents for using my debit card! My plate turned out to be $11.78! not eating there again.

For a fast food place, L&L is terrific. We sat at one of the few inside tables and I had BBQ chicken saimin. Nice size portion, delicious raman noodles, fresh tender chicken, great broth, nice and hot. For $5 in Maui, its a great deal. And quick. It's in the mall with the Dominick's store, to the left in a grouping with a few other fast food places.

If you want to try basic Hawaiian plate lunch or simple supper, this is the place. This staff were friendly. It's basic not fancy, but it was still a hit with our family. I was a little dissapointed I couldn't get a side of poi with the meal. No poi with kalua pork? Hey broddah dis no bodda you? Prices averaged about $8 a plate.

A pathetic, small, overcooked burger with lame "bbq" sauce, lettuce, tomatoes served with a generous portion of freshly cooked fries. I could have gone two stars except the place is filthy... I believe the health department would shut it down if they were in there tonight. There were enough people on duty to cut up behind the counter, I am glad they aren't disturbed by mundane things like keeping the place clean. With I went back to get some onions I had to wait for the counter person to argue with the cook and finally do her surely best to give them to me. Run, do not walk away from here (To be fair, when we were walking by this place 20 minutes later it appeared that the party was over and one of the staff was wiping down the tables. I didn't stick around to see if they brought out the steam cleaner for the floors, I can only hope).

We were looking for a hamburger for my son and found L & L. Very overpriced for the size of burger he got. As for my meal, the mini teriyaki chicken was rammed into a small container with rice, raw cabbage and creamy elbow macaroni salad. I was a little wary eating a cold dish nestled in with a hot item, hoping it hadn't been introduced to heat for very long. I didn't each much of it but the next day had a mild case of food poisoning. Though, there's no way I could pin it on the salad, that's the only thing I'd eaten differently from my family for the last few days. It took me out of vacation mode for a day, so the price was definitely too high!

I really wanted to like this, because it was recommended to us by a great local guy... unfortunately my husband & I both just didn't like it :( When we travel we don't like to be "tourists" or eat at anything that's a chain restaurant. We get recs from locals & eat local food. Anyway, this was just bland & unappealing. Especially after eating at Da Kitchen Express, which was VERY good, this just didn't compare sadly :( Wouldn't go back.

Yum! This is off the beaten track above Kihei. The BBQ chicken was tender, flavorful and not greasy. Rice was perfect. Mac salad was good. Ask for a side of sauce and get a HUGE glass of water as this is super salty. I'd eat at this place again in a heartbeat, just be prepared to drink your weight in water!

Food is OK and service was OK. I thought $11 for a plate was costly even though it was a good amount of food. I was just shocked they did not sell spam musubi. I mean that is what Hawaii is famous for.

My first local food experience. And my last. Well, at least my last loco moco. I wanted to try the loco moco ever since seeing it from a different place on the Travel Channel. I was starving at the time so the first half I ate was DELISH! But as I started to fill up, I started to realize that it was not good. The beef patty tasted really processed. I actually prefer the ones served in NYC public schools. The macaroni salad was really mayonnaisey and flavorless but they do give you a pretty big portion, as they do with the rice. Maybe their other dishes taste better? I wouldn't go back though.

Nothin like a good L & L to start your day. Can't go wrong in taste or (gulp) price. Kalua pork, combo fish plate. Try it and like it. Faster food and decent taste for a price that won't leave you with no appetite.

It's L&L. It's always consistent, from Oxnard, Ca to Kehie, Hi. It's always good, never a let down. My favorite comfort food. The garlic shrimp is my Fav if I'm here on Maui, but the Curry Katsu (sauce on the side, I don't like it smothered, I like to dip, that way it doesn't get soggy) with double Mac salad is my favorite go to plate.

Looking for Hawaiian comfort food and plate lunches while in Kihei? Stop by L&L. I was surprised to see that they highlight each dish's calorie count and even have lower calorie portions. My sister enjoyed the saimin soup, and insisted that we come back for it the next day!

2nd time better than 1st. Chicken was more tender and more evenly cooked, more similar to the offering from the Campbell location version. Nicolas, the true L&L fan, agrees. Tip: After visiting L&L in Maui 3 times during our 2010 vacation I can confidently declare the Campbell CA location consistently better in food quality, food quantity and service. The space is also much more pleasant.

Don't expect to find an island favorite snack here...spam musubi! They no longer have them on the menu. They have it on the mainland though. Strange. The cashier directed me to Minit store across the way.

Well, I know this is fast food. But this is some of the greasiest fast food I've ever had. And I normally am a person who loves greasy. But I can't handle it here! I used to go for their breakfast foods: spam, eggs, you know the deal. Delicious. After a while, that's when I noticed that everything tasted way too oily. Anyways, still an OK place. Cheap food. Service isn't bad. I just won't go there as much.

I think this is THEE BEST L&L I've been to thus far. I got the mahi mahi plate. Perfectly seasoned (not too salty and not bland) with good breading. The mac salad, perfect creamyness and flavor. Now, I usually base how good a place is based on the mac salad itself because how hard is it to screw up mahi (ok, well i'm sure you can) but the mac salad is so freaking good. And then of course, two scoops of rice. Of course after stuffing my face, I gotta run to the gym (literally lol).

This isn't fine dining, but for fast food this place offers tasty food and a friendly staff at a low price. Excellent chicken katsu, best french toast in Maui. The staff are friendly and for a fast food place the service is good. Best L & L I've ever been too!

Delicious Hawaiian food. The reason it doesn't get 5 stars as it would have a few years ago is that their portions have shrunk considerably. Still about the same as Da Kitchen and other places, but in the past it was a monstrous helping of kalua pork on a couple pieces of cabbage. Now the whole portion is smaller and it's like half and half. Bummer because, really, who goes in thinking, "mmmm, I'm gonna get me some cabbage"?
