This review is based on breakfast included with our five day stay with our travel agent. We went for our honeymoon. The breakfast was a lot of variety. I always stuck with fruit, eggs benedict, lox salmon and their donut selection. I enjoyed their open fruit bar until I saw a child cough directly on some fruit and now wish it was covered like some of the other items. I blame it on the parent since she didn't grab here and move her away from where she coughed..gross. The eggs benedict were yummy and I really enjoyed how they changed it each day. I also tried their Taro Pancakes and French toast. You usually get one or the other. I enjoyed their had macadamian nuts and different type of syrup and topping available. Their salmon lox was fresh and some of the best I have had. My waist line is still remembered their circular donuts they have available. The ones with the filling go fast so make sure you get your hands on one. One day they had a custard and another time it was chocolate. They were to die for. The ones coated with just sugar had no filling. One thing that I didn't know until our last day was that the omelette chef usually makes a specialty dish. On our last day, my husband asked what the specialty dish was and he had some Sam Choy created with a bed of rice and fresh fish with fresh sea weed. It was really good.

Nori (the evening restaurant) has one of the worst price to food ratios ever. We had high hopes (having not checked Yelp!) and were spectacularly disappointed. My wife ordered the $40 filet mignon medium (and we got it torched). Worst of all is that it came an *hour* after we had arrived. I ordered the $85 chef's special consisting of a half roll, a nigiri platter, and mahi-mahi. It was below average sushi at top prices. The mahi-mahi was good, but the accoutrements were poor. What really upset us is that my daughter spent half an hour waiting for (an admittedly very good) chicken noodle soup which fit in a miso bowl. Never got a wine list and the experience was just severely disappointing. Simply stay away!

The breakfast buffet here has awesome pastries, and delicious fresh fruit. I didn't try the omelet bar, but it looked like they had a good selection of fillings. The keiki roasted potatoes were really herby and good. $31 for one adult and free for two kids make this all-you-can-eat buffet the best dining deal I've found on the big island. Considering the $6 I've been paying for weak Americanos at Browns deli, the large carafe of good coffee that comes with breakfast pretty much pays for the meal. Even my picky eater found plenty of stuff to like here. We've been twice this week and will go again.

Decent selection for a breakfast buffet but very expensive for what you get. It is typically $30 per person and I had 20% off.

The breakfast buffet at the Orchid Court is pretty amazing. They've got omelettes or eggs cooked to order, lots of fresh fruit, a variety of pastries, tropical juices, plus the usual assortment of eggs, bacon, homefries, etc. I appreciated that they featured Hawaiian twists here and there, like the taro pancakes, poke, or the various malasadas. It was also what you would call expensive: $30 per adult and half that for kids. It was a very good thing we had this breakfast included in our Fairmont hotel package; We took full advantage! My usual became an all veggie omelet with feta, plus passion-orange-guava juice (POG), a malasada or two, maybe a Hawaiian speciality item, lots of fresh fruit and coffee. Plenty of coffee. Let's just say I gained a few pounds in Hawaii and leave it at that. Tips and tricks: -- Being an outdoor dining room, birds can be a nuisance. Leave at least one person at the table at all times. If everyone revisits the buffet at the same time, you'll return to a small flock of them, pecking at your leftovers.

Where to begin... This place was horrible. From the food to the service. Our server took 15 minutes to greets us. Once she finally did we were ready to order.. We placed our drinks and entrees all at once. I decided to have the breakfast buffet while my husband decided to order off the regular menu. I should have listen to him when he said (food at buffets is never good) he was right my food was horrible almost very thing was very dry or over cooked since it had been sitting out. Our server never came by to check on us, my husband never got his entree and I never got my mimosa. She came by to give us the check along with my mimosa. She charged us for 2 buffets?? Huh? My husband asked if he was getting his entree at all? She said "what entree" you had the buffet...we literally almost starting laughing because she had no clue what was going on. She clearly forgot to order his entree and assumed he had the buffet. She felt bad about forgetting to place the order but she mostly just laughed about it walked away. We're from Vegas and service like that would NEVER fly. I get that we are in Hawaii and everyone is on "relax mode" but come on lady! GET IT TOGETHER! We gave this restaurant just one more chance the very next day. And it doesn't get any better! Our server the second time was attentive. However this is where it gets pretty bad! I notice a bus boy cleaning off the table right next to us. I watched him set new "clean silver wear and napkins" on a dirty table and brush off a few crumbs from the table with a polishing rag. The table was NEVER wiped down with a wet or sanitized towel!! Not only is that just pain gross. But they can get many people sick by not wiping down dirty tables. That's just laziness and down right gross. We should have just got up and walked out after seeing that. We left shortly after. Needless to say we will never be eating here again nor will we be recommending this place. Save your money and enjoy a good meal... go off property to eat ANYTHING!

Rebecca the server was extremely nice and friendly. Japanese breakast was extremely plain and so not worth it. Had to mix it all up with soy sauce to save it.

I know it's hawaii and the vibe is generally laid back on all the islands. Yet, I believe the Fairmount brand should still live up to it's reputation at any location. This is one of those times when the situation goes from bad to worse. The menu consisted of a 3 course meal for $49. There were several choices to choose from. I had the omakase sushi starter which was pretty much a joke. One piece of tuna nigiri and the other was cooked shrimp. My entree was the grilled sword fish (catch of the day). It was so bad, I had to send it back. The fish was completely overcooked and dried out. The rice that it came with tasted like rice cooked in soy sauce. Disgusting! My friend's chicken dish also had that same rice and she complained about that as well. There was also cooked spinach on my plate which was nothing to remember. The presentation was also a little odd (see pic). After 30 minutes of waiting, they brought out another plate for me and the sword fish was much better. I think I just asked for plain rice at that point. Time for dessert. It was the chef's inspiration....that day, some kind of taro pie. It actually tasted pretty good until I took a second bite. There was a large piece of egg shell in my mouth. I dissected the pie further and found a bunch more shells. Really??? This was like the straw that broke the camels back. The waiter asked me if I wanted another piece instead. No thank you. The manager came over and apologized. He comp'd my meal without us even mentioning anything. We appreciated that. Too bad the damage was already done.

WOW, a lot can change in just a couple of years. Stopped by for breakfast thus morning and it was just... Terrible. The only decent options now are made-to-order omelets and fresh fruit. Everything else is sitting in a steam tray, getting soggy. (By the way, it is a CRIME AGAINST BACON to put it in one of those things!!!) There used to be awesome Japanese breakfast options: steamed fish, miso soup, pickles, steamed rice. Not anymore - totally gone. It was a pretty depressing meal this morning, and I am likely not going to return to stay at the Fairmont Orchid because of it. If these guys want to see what a killer breakfast looks like, head over to the Four Seasons restaurant 'Ulu for the buffet - it's AMAZING and totally worth the price tag. You can get a French Press of 100% Kona coffee, there's ALWAYS Japanese style items (miso, add as much tofu as you want, steamed rice AND fried rice, assorted pickles) and fresh sticky buns, malasadas... Ok I'm drooling now. Orchid Court's buffet is like the polar opposite of this. Fairmont, what happened? Breakfast should not make me so sad! :( :(

I'm not accustomed to places like this but from what I've seen in the past 6 nights here. The Rooms are beyond clean and lavish they're perfect. The views are amazing the food is a home run out hit out the park and the staff is very good at helping you find anything needed on the resort or off. I can simply say I love this place!

Very disappointing. The service was terrible here. It's one thing to be on island time but do it with a smile on your face and then when you do finally deliver, make it good! The coffee was like sludge, the buffet was unappetizing and the fact that tables were full of dirty dishes swarmed with birds made us finish eating very quickly to get the heck out of here. They pre-sell a daily breakfast buffet to the orchid court...I'm so glad we didn't buy that because we won't be back.

I was surprised to read many of the one and two star reviews on here - reading through them, it seems like most people had complaints with the buffet. Looks like we dodged a bullet there, because we ate at the Orchid Court for breakfast twice, and ordered a la carte off the menu each time. I couldn't have been happier with the food, although it was a bit pricy. The french toast and pancakes were both fantastic - fluffy and warm, and the fresh fruit they were served with was delicious. The omelette we ordered was one of the best I've had, and the tiny tomatoes on the side added the perfect bite.
