This is a cheese burger in paradise for sure. The same delicious Shack Burger you get in Playa Del Rey is available in Beautiful Hawaii. The prices are reasonable, the beer is cold and the service is friendly. they have WiFi and good parking. The salads are also fresh and delicious for those who prefer a lighter fare.

It was my first time visiting the shack but my visit wasn't exactly what I expected it to be. We walked in at around 3:30pm and there was a group of guys completely wasted, which wouldn't had bothered me if they weren't so obnoxiously distracting, mind you there were children around. I ordered the guacamole burger with fries and it was pretty good. I also ordered a lava flow but it wasn't good. I also noticed that one of the waitresses took her break on the floor and thought it was okay to drink with the costumers to a point where she was sloppy. Overall the food was alright but things in this restaurant need some adjustments.

Great place for bar food, beer and the games. I really like this place because of the affordability and chicken wings! Awesome place if you want to watch college football. Staff is pretty quick and friendly plus service is pretty good. People can be pretty chill too, I get no issues from anybody that gets drunk or what not. You get a pretty decent atmosphere despite the beer. The only problem is that it can get super hot. They sprinkle mist near the windows to cool down everybody, but it can still get a little warm.

It's exactly what it's suppose to be. Cold beer, bar food, and sports. What I like the most is how consistent the food is. I get the same thing almost every time and it taste the same every time. No randomly, bad experiences ever! Staff is always friendly and will remember you. The best thing on the menu is the chicken avocado sandwich. I get it with jalapeños. The sandwiches are huge and easily shared by two people, especially with fries or a side salad. Second is the Asian chicken salad. It's GINORMOUS. Do not order without someone to help you finish it. Laid back atmosphere, nice lanai, and good weekday specials. Wish they were open later like other bars!

I think these are the best wings on Oahu!! There are other "Shack" here...one in Mililani and one in Hawaii Kai. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME!!! Love the drinks and the food!!

It's a cute little shack! I've never had bad food here. Wings! Beer! And more! Sometimes service is slow, but hey I was watching the game anyways! Not a lot of parking (welcome to Hawaii) but it's free parking!

This place was not good at all. If your looking for greasy bar food, warm beer, terrible services and high prices then check it out. We where charges for items we did not receive and we showed the waitress she said "oh sorry I did not notice that before" she did not offer to take the items off. The kids meal come with ice cream and we had to ask her 4x for them. We ordered appetizers and they brought them out at the same time as our meal. Normally that would not be a big deal but we waited 30 min for our food. In response to your question we went on the same day I wrote the review. Honestly it was the waitress response to our question about the extra $9.00 charge for fries we did not get that really turned me off. The food and beer where not awesome but the salad we took home to my aunt was good.

Great food/bar and atmosphere that you need to visit if coming from or to Kailua and Waimanalo beaches. Husband and I came here twice during the week after the beach. He loves the wings and I get the sandwiches. Fresh, simple and casual. Seems like it could be a fun and happening beach place on weekends. $45 bucks including beers. Will definitely keep coming here.

I live nearby and the fact that I've only been here less times than I can count on one hand says a lot. The servers were very friendly however I spent nearly $9 for mozzarella sticks and the cooks burn it! They were very gracious to remedy the situation however the bite that I had of my food has left me extremely disappointed. Sorry, but I won't be going back.

Arguably the best shack on island! The food and drinks are great and it's affordable! Drink Specials! Happy Hour 3PM-6PM everyday! Tuesday: Happy hour 3-close Wednesday: $2 Corona $2 Jose Cuervo 6 PM-Close Thursday: $2 drafts 6PM -Close Saturday: $1 Well drinks 8PM - Close Sunday: $2 Heineken Bottle and Draft 6 PM-Close Food - I always get the garden burger with pepper jack cheese with curly fries. The fries are great and always a generous serving! Wings - My friends are obsessed with the wings and they smell great! *I don't eat meat. Anyway, you can get them as a basket (5), bucket (10), or barrel (15)! They will not disappoint!

I've been here a few times and their wings are always great!! Burgers are usually pretty good too, my favorites being the Reuben burger and the Bacon Blue burger. Last night was my first time trying their onion rings, and they were fantastic!!

This is my place to go to for a great burger in Kailua. I love this place!

  • Victoria A.

Let me preface this review for those with germaphobic tendencies - this place might push you over the edge if you can't overlook the sticky tables, sticky condiments and the bathroom. With that said, if you can overlook those things you might be able to enjoy the food. It's always a treat to be able to take a drive around the island to play tourist for the day - especially when it's during the work week. It's probably one of my favorite things to do. So we make our way up to Kailua just in time for lunch and the question of where to go isn't hard to answer - THE SHACK of course! The Shack is synonymous for WINGS...deliciously done right WINGS! If I hadn't given up chicken earlier this year I would be in wing heaven! But given that, there are many other items on the menu that I could eat aside from their tasty wings. I'm not much of a burger person (more of a slider type kinda gal) so I ordered a Pastrami Reuben (second one this week) with a side of onion rings. My husband ordered a burger and a small of order of wings. Let me tell you, there was silence for a few minutes as we devoured and savored our meal! That's a great sign! I can only speak for my food and reminisce about the wings. My pastrami came on whole wheat bread and was HUGE! So much so that by the time I got to eating the second half of my sandwich the juices of the pastrami as well as the generous kraut had seeped and soaked up the bottom bread. I couldn't eat it and had to ask for a fork so that I can dismember the sandwich to eat it. Not a problem - still a great sandwich! THIS was a great pastrami!! I'm just an extremely slow eater and the sandwich didn't stand a chance surviving a drowning in it's own juices. The onion wings were RIDICULOUSLY on steroids - huge and deep fried to perfection! I honestly couldn't eat more than two rings in combination with the pastrami. Such a waste, since clearly we had ordered too much food. Hubby devoured his burger in a nnsst! of a second! I literally saw him pick it up and then it was GONE! Must have been that good or maybe my sandwich was that good that I didn't even bother looking at him. Nonetheless, I did see him savor every bit of his wings. Between the, "Honey, really just have a little....it's not gonna kill you," to the, "Are you sure you don't want a wing? It's the best wings on island," he killed it! The wings were glistening with hot sauce and looked to have that crispy outer layer of crunch and tender, juicy meat. Their wings ARE delicious and I can only lament that I gave up chicken way before I could have these wings as my final chicken meal. Customer service was perfect here!! Given that we got there just in time for the lunch rush (midweek) it wasn't extremely busy yet. Our waitress came back several times to refill my water and hubby's soda several times. Parking was easy and plentiful. This place is outdated yes, but that is what adds to the appeal of a local dive bar. It has an outdoor patio as well as indoor seating. If you're lucky to be here on a windy or breezy day - the patio is the place to be. As a side note, they do NOT have wet-naps to wash your hands with after the meal - so best you bring your own. Lucky for us, this germaphobe carries clorox wipes, hand wipes and sanitizer EVERYWHERE. Also, best you don't go in the bathroom unless you absolutely, ABSOLUTELY! need it. Some things cannot be unseen. For those reasons alone, this place gets 3 stars - food and customer service were excellent but the run down facility speaks for itself.

The Shack is a fun little place in Kailua to grab a drink and some bar food. We walked down after pre-gaming. We grab some seats outside and ordered some drinks. This was my first time here but not the first for my brother. This is his favorite bar and I can understand why. It's not huge but it has a cool vibe. They have some games inside and outdoor seating. They have drink menu that I love, all the classic shots and drinks. They also have full wings. You know how you usually get a flat and a drum separate, well this gives you the full thing, which is lazy but you get the little extra piece. They wings we got had some kind of sauce but they weren't hot enough for me. I wish we ordered a side of sauce but I was too hungry to care. They have chili cheese fries which I thought were greasy and they also have just plain curly fries. They top the chili cheese fries with onion so if you don't like that let them know. We got everything pretty quickly. Our drink came out all together and they even brought out extra ranch. The waitress we had was really cool. She brought us all out water because god knows we needed them, also sat down and helped us pick out a shot for me and my brother. She called it a princess shot because it was pink but it had another name and I cant remember what it was. I was just disappointed they ran out of peach schnapps. There we a couple shots I would have taken otherwise, maybe it was a good thing. This one was a nice local spot to take advantage of.

The location should be enough to make it a sale but I found disappointment with this place. The food was OK at best but what made almost lose my lunch was the men's. I get that the hang lose and nostalgia vibe is their bread and butter but their hygiene leaves much to be desired. I hope they fix this before I ever return here.

After almost 3 years of living on Oahu, I finally tried The Shack. I got the double shack burger and it was huge! Definitely filling and worth the $10. Fries are an extra $3 but they give you a good amount. Food is awesome but the service wasn't anything special. Only got one drink refill for our table and our server was just slow. 4 stars though cause that burger was so good!

  • Lea C.

Scott, we waited for 1.5 hr for our food. We were there on the 3rd. My friend actually complained to our server about how long we've been waiting and we wanted to leave. I guess you were undermanned for that shift, but it wasn't even crowded when we came in. We were there too long that we saw people got their food, watched them eat, and pay for their check.

I was stationed at KMCAS and loved the shack burger. Portuguese sausage and burger totally awesome. Little crowded and very busy but I always loved it. When I'm back on the island from the mainland this Haoly is going back to the shack Semper Fi.

  • Ksenia C.

It was ok for food. Service was pretty good, nice waitress. Alcohol was cheap. Definitely a dive bar type of place. It was very chill, we had a group of 7 of us and it was easy to talk to everyone versus other cats where you have to scream over each other. So if you're looking for a chill non expensive place this is it.

The shack gets 5 stars for their wings! Best wings on island! They have some other good menu items, but I can't order any of them now because all I crave are their wings. The staff is always nice and as attentive as they can be, especially on busy nights. Drinks are also usually pretty good and strong!

I've come here countless times and I've never had a bad experience until today. I also don't want to take away from the other servers because this is a service review and everyone else until today has been great. However, "aunty" that served us this evening was a mess. She took our drink order (4 people), cool. Then she came around to take our food order, wrote everyones order down, cool. 15 min later, food started coming out, one mistake but whatever, it happens. Then another 15 min go by and the 2 things I ordered for the table doesn't come out. One of which had modifications that she asked me and wrote down so I'm not crazy. My bf goes up and asks about it, she never put it in, and only then puts it in when he asked- all the while, my friend who had already paid his tab got 2 extra beers without asking for them while my beer never got refilled... and I actually ASKED for one. We were there for about an hour, one beer and no food later, we ask for the bill & to cancel the food and finally it appears. Sorry but if everyone else got serviced on the table because you had a personal relationship with them and the new girl didn't get anything she had ordered, something is wrong.

Horrible!!! Visited this place 4 times and 3 out of 4 either me or someone in my group had a HAIR in their food!! 1st time it was inside the rice 2nd time it was on the cheese of a burger. 3rd time in the Mac salad...They need to tell that Jack Sparrow wannabe cooking the food back there to put a damn Hairnet on!!!

After a typical sunday ride we often stop in here after Sandys beach. Always crowded but still seats available. Today we came in around 1pm. Mind u the soccer game was on so it was quite busy (no excuse though). Noticed about 3 waitress/waiters helping the back section. We waited 7 minutes before someone came to clear the table and thats after flagging someone down. We then waited 15 minutes before someone came to take our order. The rest of our party who were sitting near by got their food as the waitress (that we had to again flag down) finally took our order. The waitress assigned to our table was actively servicing all the rest of her tables just passing us by. I have no complaints about their food. Quites delicious. We never experienced this bad of the service here before.

This place is so fun!! The food & drinks were great and our waitress was really fun too. The Lava Flow and other drinks are really good & you definitely get your money's worth. Buffalo wings are soooo good & huge!! Jalapeño poppers were super good too, and im not a huge fan of them in general. Going back again soon :)

Was highly recommended by a good friend whom lived close by. Best wings I've ever had was what he said. I strongly agree. Also bought a bacon burger. Also delicious.

The Shack is located right across Enchanted Lake Shopping center. It's the gathering place for sports fans, happy hour drinks, or a good take out on the way home. The atmosphere is lively, equipped with indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoor seating can get pretty hot so a mist of cool water is lightly sprayed over the patrons in consecutive intervals. A nice little touch to keep their customers happy. The menu ranges from potato skin appetizers to oriental chicken salads and of course their amazing burgers. Their portions are very generous and consistent in taste and size. My friend and I ordered the sliders which came with cheese (inside) lettuce, tomatoes and pickles on the side, a Mushroom Burger and an order of onion rings. (This could have fed 3-4 ppl). One of our favorite spots during the football season. Extensive beer selections on tap along with a full bar to accommodate mixed drink lovers.

This is the BEST Shack on island! The food and drinks are great and affordable. Their hot wings are THE BEST on the whole island!!! i love their wings. Bartenders and Waitresses are friendly. Great dive place for good food and to relax. It's small and cozy. Good place to watch the game too. Outdoor seating has mist of cool water that is lightly sprayed over patrons when it's hot out. I totally recommend this place.

My wife and I come here often. Probably the best hot wings you will get on the windward side. Seating is open style but the service is always prompt. Beers are decently priced I had a Castaway IPA for $4.75 a pint! We will be back.

2 stars because I am feeling generous... Today my boyfriend and I went in around 3 for a late lunch. We walked in, were told to sit anywhere we wanted, and proceeded to wait 20 minutes before being acknowledged by a waitress. I made eye contact with both servers as they served the other tables (it wasn't THAT busy), and finally a waitress came over and took our drink order. I ordered a beer, it came out within a few minutes, and before we could order food our server just walked away? Then it took another 20 minutes for her to come back! I also felt like she was annoyed to even be taking our orders. Maybe she just doesn't like people who aren't locals. I don't know, it was weird. We finally get our food and for $9, my basic club sandwich was mediocre at best. I found it odd that sides were $3 extra. My boyfriend's burger was so well done that he didn't even finish it (the server also never asked how he wanted his burger done and quickly left). Seriously, $30 (after tip) for a club sandwich with no sides, a crappy burger with no sides, and a bottle of corona? The bar itself is cute and I loved the vibe of it when we walked in. The service, pricing, and food were all letdowns. Too bad. Service: 1 star Food: 2 stars Pricing: 1 star

Since I live right down the street, this is a place I tend to fall back on when I want food. Don't get me wrong, the food is great! The fries, which are a mix of curly and regular, are really good (sometimes you even get a surprise waffle fry!). All the burgers I've tried have been great as well as the salads and sandwiches. They have a decent selection of beer, of course my favorite (the Rogue Deadguy) is the most expensive, but still not terrible for Hawaii. They have specials most nights, like Taco Tuesday, etc. The reason I give this place 3 stars is the service, they tend to be extremely slow, even when they don't seem very busy. At night, when it's been busy, my table has been forgotten (or at least, thats how we felt). Overall, really good food and drinks, could step it up on the service. MY FAV: - Chicken bacon ranch salad - Oriental salad - BBQ burger - Pastrami Reuben

Stopped in on the way back from a tour and boy were we glad it was here. It's sad this place has such horrible reviews, seems like they're mostly about the servers. Not sure what people expect- this place is a dive bar. We had a great server! She was attentive and polite. We both ordered the Hawaiian chicken sandwiches and local beers. It hit the spot! Everything tasted fresh, juicy, and flavorful. I could really go for it right now!

  • Angelena D.

ok, com'on ... it's a dive bar. Don't come here expecting classy and then complain about it. the atmosphere is fun and laid back if you've got an open mind and just want to chill. It's a bar...end of story. My husband and I have gone quite a bit and I figured it's due time to right a review. We generally get wings, burgers, and that's about it, oh and beer : ) The burgers are yummy (bacon blues burger) and the wingers are pretty good! We both are pretty laid back people who enjoy this kind of environment. If the waitress doesn't check on us every 10 min, that's okay. It's just a nice place to chill and have some good food, watch sports, and enjoy good company. Hey, some of the most diveyest bars are the best! ...and on that note, I better get ready because we're getting ready to go there now! lol

I've been here a few times, but had yet to review. First of all, I have to admit: I like dive bars. I really do. The seedier the better. The Shack Kailua is a great place to go with friends, especially if you're going to have a few drinks. The drink specials are killer, and if you live in the area, you can stumble home. Tonight I just ordered takeout, 'cause I was itchin' for some hot wings. Here's what we ordered, and my view: 1. Shack Burger - It's like a regular burger, BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! We got it with Portuguese sausage, which was pretty darn good. The burger itself didn't seem to be top-notch quality (just being honest) but the way they had it done made up for that. It was yummy. 2. Mozzarella sticks - HIGHLY RECOMMEND - They are the best that I've had on the island. The fried outside is so good, but not overly bready. The cheese is the PERFECT consistency. Get it. 3. HOT WINGS! - YES. Just yes. I've heard they use Frank's Red Hot, and they remind me of the ones my dad used to make when I was but a wee lass. Came with Bleu Cheese and celery, as it should! 4. Dinner salad - It was fine. I absolutely detest cucumbers and tomatoes, and I forgot to ask them to not put 'em on there... The croutons were good, but a little soggy from touching the aforementioned veggies. The salad itself (Romaine, methinks?) was good, crunchy, pretty fresh. Little pieces of carrot added variety. 5. The "Bleu Cheese" - WHAT IN THE DEVIL??? I originally thought they had given me the wrong dressing, because it tasted unlike any other bleu cheese I've had before. It's a little tangier, almost like a ranch, or like they added a splash of Worchestire (did I spell that wrong?). I ended up really liking it, though, and had it on my salad and on the wings. Overall, a great place. The wait staff is really busy but they seem highly competent and pretty friendly. I would say go there, just so you've been there...and to try the freaking awesome wings.

Kind of an awkward place to have a bar like this especially when sitting outside, would be awesome to have it near the beach! Our only view was of the street haha. The lava flows are yummy and refreshing for a mid day drink. But the food was pretty greasy and but I guess that's expected of bar food anywhere. Sliders were good and the Potato skins were very tasty but very oily. The buffalo wings would have been good if there were just a little less spicy. We couldn't finish it and had to wash out the heat with celery sticks and ranch....I don't even like celery lol but it saved me!

I have ordered from the shack plenty of times before through room service in paradise. However tonight me and my wife got our food and my burger was SUPER well done with no ketchup or mustard, and my wife's fish sandwich was cold and hard with neither of the sauces she asked for. We called and asked to speak to a manager and after hearing briefly what i had to say he hung up on me. I wasn't looking for any sort of compensation but he could've at least listened. Needless to say I will never be wasting money on the shack again. And if your that manager and your reading this then screw you bro

We went on a Friday night. It was predictably crowded, but we found a table right away. The crowd was a mix of families, birthday parties, and small groups of adults. Good selection of sports to watch, but pretty loud so couldn't hear each other very well. Service was slow, very very slow. The food was really greasy, and we didn't care much for the wings. The best part was the pitchers of beer!

    (2)
  • Keisha P.

Awesome awesome happy hours!!! Monday- $1 off pitchers after 6 tues-$1off all bar after 6pm, wed is taco night $2 taco, $3 caronas&jose cuevo & $5 patrons!!! Thurs- $2.75 draft beers & sat $2 well drinks!!! I've been coming to this bar for 3 years now and the staff is so friendly. I feel comfortable in the hang loose environment. Must have: Rueben burger Chicken wings (sauce on side!) And of course, their french fries.

  • Richard K.

My friends and I are big fans of the Shack. We have tried chicken wings all over the island and The Shack Kailua is at the top of the list thus far. Their sauce is simple (Frank's Red Hot Sauce) but very effective and satisfying the craving for steaming hot, fresh-out-of-the-fryer wings. The wings are also very meaty, not like the skimpy wings at other places that leave you asking, "you sure that's chicken wings and not pigeon wings?" The Shack Kailua also offers crinkle cut fries (the only location that has them) in lieu of the standard curly fries. Totally reminds me of elementary school times in the cafeteria. Catch their beer specials and you're in for a bargain. Parking can be tough if you're there on a crowded night (their private lot can fill up fast) but you can find neighborhood parking or park across the street at Safeway. Beware, the noise level COULD get a little higher than usual, so it's not always the best spot for families with kids if you're going around dinner time. Seating is indoor and outdoor on the covered lanai. Tables range from high tops with stools to regular tables with metal chairs. There is a fancy, new jukebox where you can pay to play songs from all eras and a couple video game machines inside.

Updated review. Upping to five star. This place is that local five that has the regulars but welcomes newbies just the same. Food is good and has the best wings on the island in my opinion. Sunday morning football is where it's at though

We stumbled upon this little gem while exploring town. The employees are so nice and they are pretty quick for how busy it gets. Definitely try and get there in the first hour they open for lunch, as we got there and it was empty and by the time we left less than an hour later, it was packed. I got the Hawaiian Burger and it was cooked perfectly and delicious. The fries were good, but not my favorite. A little overcooked, but the burger made up for it. We will be back!

    (4)
  • John S.

Terrible terrible terrible!!! We have given this place so many chances! We paid over 60$ for two orders of wings that were cold and limp cold saugy French fries! Never again!

Cheap drinks. Good food. Great servers. I think I'll come back soon! I hade a bacon cheeseburger and it was super tasty. The food took kinda long to actually come out but it was pretty good.

    (4)
  • Tanya S.

I come here a lot because it's close to home and drink/food prices are pretty good. However, it always seems a little dirty, the tables are sticky, the floor is sometimes sticky, and bathrooms are dirty. The service is usually pretty good. My friend's wine tasted a little sour and our waitress happily brought her a different wine. The food is okay. Last time I got the french fries some of the fries tasted a little old. The wings are pretty good but spicy so it's good to get the sauce on the side if you don't like it too hot. The portion sizes are big but again the food is just okay. Despite this place just being okay. I would still keep coming back here for the convenience, drinks, and service.

FAIL: While visiting Oahu, we decided to visit The Shack to watch game 7 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. This is what went well: - the Guinness - free wifi This is what went wrong: - there was no turkey in my turkey club sandwich. The server apologized, took it back to the kitchen where the "chef" (I'd prefer to call him something else) shoved some chemical processed turkey meat into the existing sandwich. It looked like a disgusting disaster. Good thing I married a garbage disposal because it got eaten none the less. The server came by to ask me how I was enjoying my sandwich, I said "Oh, I gave it to him". - there really wasn't anything on the menu I wanted to eat, so I ran across the street at intermission to grab a non fat latte from Starbucks to kill my hunger until I got back to my cousins house. Well, I was forced to stand outside with my Starbucks to finish it as my Starbucks cup was going to somehow RUIN everyone else's experience at the Shack (the rest of the patrons totalled approximately 5 people who were interested only in eating fries and didn't give a flying shit about my Starbucks cup) - the bathrooms were disgusting and there was no toilet paper to boot. - the satelite tv kept screwing up and interrupting our hockey watching To Conclude: The Shack, you suck. Love, Me

I've had the wings and burgers here. They're a little pricy but.. I guess we're in Hawaii! I would say the bacon blues burger is one of the best burgers I've had in Oahu. $10 would be good for burgers and fries but maybe a little high for just a burger:) still really good!

A-OK. Sounds about right. Let's go through it here, shall we? The burgers are great and you come with plenty of options and pleasantries (think Thunder Humper. Think about it... now stop. That's disgusting). The fries are excellent but have a logic puzzle type ordering scheme wherein you have to economize between eating your own and sharing with those grubby grabbers you try to call your friends and dinnermates. The atmosphere is... not worth much discussion. It's a sticky sports bar. All in all, the food is great and the view is grating. I'll take questions now. ...Stop thinking about the Thunder Humper. That's right. I knew you were still thinking about it.

Holy Smokes, the burgers and salads here are beyond good! We stumbled upon this place while driving around Oahu one day and boy am I glad we found this joint. The people that work here are very friendly and the guys working the grill know how to put together a tasty burger. You gotta come here...

The Shack is what it is - a dive bar, but with good food, great drink specials, friendly staff (and great looking waitresses) - prices are very reasonable - and good for watching Sunday football.

The Shack is a ten minute walk from my house which makes it convenient, but I know not everyone lives that close so I waited a couple times before I reviewed this place. And by a couple times I mean a million. Seriously. My check in numbers on the shack don't reflect how often I truly come here. Lets start with food. When you think of bar food you think of small wings, too bready chicken strips, over-fried french fries, and so on. The meals here are quite impressive for a bar. The burgers are creative, filling and delicious. Their chicken katsu, (my favorite plate) is juicy and irresistible. Their fries are addicting, especially if you're hungover. Even their tacos are delicious. The best reason for the 5 star rating is their specials. They have a special everyday except for friday which is fine with me because I would have no life and would just live there if they did. My favorite specials are $2.75 drafts on Thursday nights. Thats ALL drafts. Even Rogue Dead Guy Ale which is normally $5.75. Great night to go grab some beers with some friends to wind down the week and leave with a low tab. My other favorite is $2.00 well drinks from 8-11pm on Saturdays. Yes. Two. Dollars. Talk about a good night. And if you want a double, yes you guessed it. Four. Dollars. Seriously, its a little irresponsible but I need a little irresponsible on my Saturday nights. All in all its become my regular bar because of the kickass bar food, awesome drink and food specials, and good hearted people that go there to have fun.

My friends and I found ourselves here last night trying to kill some time. We had heard about The Shack from another friend and it seemed like the most lively thing in the block. Our waitress was a true sport because we were all tired and full so we only ordered soft drinks and water. There wasn't much on the menu that really shouted out must try to me so I'm not sure I'd come back here. If not for the good service, I'd rate this place 2 stars.

The Shack Kailua is Ok. I love coming here for a few drinks and to chill. It is close to my house and that's a plus. The drinks and food are good. The only problem is the parking it is sometimes rather full and you have to park on the street.

Good food, nice friendly service. The condiments on the table were filthy and I did not want to touch them. The bathrooms also could use a good cleaning. Other than that we ordered the blue cheese hamburger with french fries which was pretty good.

Oh Shack, My Dear Friend, how lovely your location is! You allow me to get shitfaced at a bar without a care or worry about how I shall get home. Thank you for being less than half a mile from my residence. Dear The Shack, You probably would have preferred if I had written this review yesterday because until today, everything you did was simply magical. You have excellent specials on Thursdays - 2.75 pints of beers, including Rogue Dead Guy (regularly 6.25). Saturdays after 8pm, you have 2 dollar well drinks. Every day there is a special of some sort and I would like to let you know that I appreciate you and your magnificent deals. Though what I do not appreciate, Shack Dearest, is your chicken tenders, how you charge 3 dollars for adding fries to a burger, and how you offered me wing sauce and blue cheese for said chicken tenders and did not tell me you were going to charge me a dollar for them. Do not offer things that are not free as though you are seducing me with your generosity, only to charge an extra dollar for dipping sauces that were solely being used to mask the texture and taste of the processed, blended, chicken strip-shaped blob that is your chicken tenders. You have made me other meals before that would have merited a five star review. The tuna melt is very highly recommended by my palate. You butter the bread before grilling it, making it AWESOME. Your chicken katsu is also quite delicious as well as your burgers. Noms. Please stay open later than midnight occasionally. Even once a month would be acceptable! I like to party hard. Mahalo, Shack!

Our waitress tried to take our check twice after we already paid. #1 we were never ready to leave in the first place but were given our check. I was pretty sure this was a place you went to to watch a sports game, not leave within 20 minutes of arrival. #2 this place was NOT packed. It's not like they needed to rush is out to seat others. If I were a waitress I would offer my customers more in hopes of a better tip. #3 don't cater just to the man at the table. The wife or girlfriend pays too, and will give you a horrible tip for being a flirt. Have some respect.

Just ate at The Shack Kailua. Haven't been here in about a decade and now I'm wondering why. It does have a bit of a dive bar feel; my table was a little on the sticky side, but that helped keep things in place on the table--it is an open-air establishment and we had a few breezes blow some napkins around. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful with the menu. Shared a Chinese chicken salad with my teenage daughter and we ended up taking half home; it was huge. We also shared a Swiss & mushroom burger and fries. The burger was my daughter's choice, not my fave, but it was really tasty, loaded with fixins. I'll definitely be back to try the hot wings and maybe grab a beer sometime. For the huge salad, burger, two sodas (refills included) and fries, our bill was about $25. Not bad, especially as we were quite full and left with a big portion of salad.

Came here after playing 9holes in the sun...was ready to eat! Jalepeno poppers and onion rings to start (YUM!), and then burgers for lunch! The burgers don't come with fries, but pay $3 extra and you get a basket to share with the table! Sit outside and there's a fine mist that keeps you cool. Plenty of parking!

Great little bar in Kailua with outdoor seating, huge salads, good chili, lotsa TVs for football, friendly staff, and chill atmosphere. I drive out of my way (from Kaneohe) to frequent this joint. The beer selection is solid and the burgers are off the richter.

We almost didn't end up going here tonight because it's not advertised anywhere that The Shack is open on Sundays. We just happened to pass by on the way to our second choice and saw it was open. The website could use an update. I was with a party of four and we had pretty efficient service. I had the Shack Cheeseburger. I don't eat burgers very often so can't compare it to many others, but I thought it was awesome. The hot link in the burger offers some great kick without stealing functioning from your taste buds. We all shared the Basket of Fries and it was enough for everyone. I'd definitely recommend this place as a visitor.

By far the best wings I have eaten on the island came from the Shack. I was recommended this place by a friend when I first arrived to the island a year ago and have been coming here ever since. I can't vouch for anything else on the menu because I've never had anything but their wings. The shack is the perfect place to grab some wings, drink a few beers, and watch the games at.

This was my second time here and I will never come here again. My friend wanted chicken wings and alcohol of course for her 21st birthday so we decided to come here. Bad idea! Our server was slow and hardly paid attention to our table...of 8! I guess if your not the regulars then they don't care. It took her, what seemed like forever to bring out 3 beers. we ordered chicken wings, onion ring and chili cheese fries which also took forever. By the time we got it we just asked for to-go boxes. I would have given them one star cause their service is just horrible but the chicken wings are good so they get 2 stars. Maybe I'll try another location but never again this one.

I stopped in here with someone that had lived in Hawaii back in the 90's. He raved about the burgers. They did offer some creative burgers. I ordered the burger with a hot link on it. The burger came out and i was disappointed before i even tasted it. The patty resembled one that you get in a frozen pack of 100 burgers at Costco. The burger was still ok because of the hot link. The fries tasted good, but came out in such small pieces. It was dificult to eat the fries. Too bad, they tasted good. My other major issue was with the soda options. They do not offer Coke or Pepsi. They offer some sort of generic soda. I ordered the diet version. It tasted bad. At first i thought it was just a bad glass from the end of the run, but i soon found out that is how it is supposed to taste. This place has a lot of potential. It has a fun bar atmosphere and a nice outdoor patio area. They have to go back to using fresh made on site food.

Usually love going for lunch on the patio but had the worst service yesterday. Carly was dismissive at best, never offered refills at all. When my daughter took our cups to the bar for refills our waitress was texting and didn't even notice. At the end of our meal I stacked our dirty plates and we watched for the waitress for over 5 minutes before again going to the bar to get our ticket. I've owned a bar & grill on the main land and was floored at how unwelcome and unwanted we felt. Instead of a tip I left a polite short note explaining why there wasn't one. First time I have ever not tipped!

I love this place during football season! Get there early (at least 7 am) to get a table. Reminder to our friends from the mainland: Hawaii is 2-3 hours behind the west coast and 5-6 hours behind the east coast. Saturdays and Sundays are packed during football season. The TV screens need replacement, and the sound system is lacking. I live close by, so this is my main spot.

The Shack is what it is: A OK. Went in with a large group for lunch before heading over to Lanikai for a wedding on the beach. What I liked about it was the affordable prices and that we all got to sit outside on the patio. Service was great considering we were a group of 15 (not locals) and her first table of the day. She was very polite to us and handled the group w/ease. Menu is massive, something for everyone, and extremely affordable. Then again, Kailua is "quiet" so tourists don't head over much. That's a good thing. I ordered a burger w/guac, it was good. Everyone else liked what they got; burgers, sandwiches, someone got a chili dog even (ew yum, ew yum). Kailua is a small, sleepy gem of a town, so happy to support any restaurant around there. The Shack included.

Thanks Yelp for the reminder. Here's my 2 month overdue review of The Shack Kailua. My visit to The Shack was back in February of this year. I went with a friend and several of his friends (all locals). They all really enjoy this place... and frequent it often. I thought it was a fun crowd. Kinda reminded me of "Cheers," where everybody knows your name. I wouldn't mind going back the next time I'm in Hawaii.

We come here often..tonight was the worst service and it wasnt busy at all..sat down and three waitresses passed right by us and walked out the side door without saying anything to let us know they would be right with us. I think one was the bartender..finally waitress comes over..we asked for a beer with a bucket ice..i kid you not..she came over with a beer, and a pitcher full of ice!! No glass..we were like seriously can we have a glass..my husband noticed that the bartender was laughing like she did it on purpose. I think our waitress was new and inexperienced..and bartender was being an ass because i gave her a look for just disregarding us..just had chicken wings and a salad..so food was fine..i hate poor service..it makes me write it up on yelp...i do write good things too tho!! Tonight they were a fail..

Bleu cheese & bacon burger was good but the service could not have been less attentive tonight from 3:30-5. No happy hour special on a pitcher of Guinness even tho glasses were supposed to be $1 off each. Had to ask or get on our own from other table for ketchup, a fork, etc. took an hour and a half to get outta there. What a shame b/c I had heard great things about this place.

Open air, decent wings, manageable prices. I like the Shack for its 'open-air' feel and good service, prices are reasonable for the area and they have daily specials. Wings are good, although they are the flat and drum combined style, they can get messy. Salads are also good but are big enough for two. Kids menus is available, and there are two or three video games, but I wouldnt think it best to bring them along anytime after 7pm. I like this spot for watching the games on Sunday.

  • Karen D.

I give The Shack three stars instead of two simply because they have tasty hot wings (which are in short supply on the Windward side). The service is marginal, the atmosphere is standard sports bar--crowded and noisy. Their other menu offerings are just meh. This is a great place to keep in mind to get yummy hot wings for take-out service! Yelp 365 Challenge #118/365

I went here with my girlfriend one late weekday afternoon to chill out for a bit and have a beer. The second you walk in, you can tell this place is a classic dive bar- a couple of rowdy locals in the corner, a group of tourists near the front, and a pair of young twenty-somethings at the bar. In a word, the place was comfortable. We ordered some mozzarella sticks and a bacon cheeseburger. The service wasn't the fastest, but you don't expect it to be in a place like this. The mozzarella sticks were actually really good - greasy, gooey and cheesy, like all good bar food should be. The burger was a different story. It tasted rubbery, and while it had a good char and fresh toppings, it was not very good, and I wouldn't bother getting it again. On the plus side, the beers were ice cold and only $2.75 during happy hour, which left our bill at around $20 with tip - not too shabby. I'd definitely come here again, especially for happy hour. But do yourself a favor and stay away from the burgers.

Went here a few times because it's walking distance from where I was staying. Service was decent. Went during the day hardly anyone there few folks eating lunch. Went for happy hour it was a bit rowdier, but in a good way. Do not sit by the bar, it smells to much like grease!

Eh, not my favorite Shack location on the island. I honestly think that the Mililani one is the best if you're just going to share some drinks with friends. A lot of my friends live on the Windward side, so we decided to give the Shack a try. Parking itself was pretty crazy ... as in we had to go searching around for a stall. Normally, I love the burgers at the Shack ... but when I went to the Kailua one, my burger was undercooked. I took one bite, saw that it was red ... not even pink, and told the server that it was undercooked. She gave me a little bit of attitude, and granted it was busy ... but I'm so sorry that I brought a potentially harmful situation to your attention. If I had gotten food poisoning, I would have been more upset. The drinks were okay. I got a Vodka/Pineapple ... there was no pineapple. It seemed like 50% Sprite, 45% water, and 5% vodka. After that drink experience, I just opted for Millers. Maybe it'll be better the second time around ... we shall see.

I have been coming to the Shack for years; the food is always solid, they have a juke box and a good bar. The bartender was on top of her game, I never had an empty drink, she was awesome!!!! Kailua Shack is a winner!

I liked this place even though the quality of the service could be greatly improved upon. The three star rating is for burgers that are tasty and juicy. I had the shroom burger. If you want fries they charge extra though. The beers are cheap but good luck getting it. This is where the service part comes in. Our server took our drink and dinner order, left, then 15 minutes passed and came back to our table asking what we had ordered to drink! Big no no. Other than that it's almost always crowded (from the times I've been there). You'll notice lots of Marines and groups there having a good time. The decor is fun, the music is OK too. Give it a try. An entertaining joint to say the least especially for a late night or happy hour. casual outing.

Great food at good prices! The waitress was super friendly... a little unattentive, but still nice. The food was GREAT! I was in the mood for a rueben sandwich which was awesome. I found a neat thing where the rueben burger was 25 cents less and included everything the sandwich did but ADDED a burger. The winges are larger than normal and delicious. I will be heading back as soon as I am on that side of island again!

My favorite Shack on the island because of their AMAZING wing recipe. They double battle the WHOLE wing and smother it in their extra spicy sauce that leaves your whole mouth tingling. Yeah, their location may not be as good as the one in Hawaii Kai, and almost the entire menu aims to give you a heart attack, but their friendly staff, comfotable lanai and delicious wings make this my favorite spot for lunch on the island!... especially after hiking to Maunawili Falls.

I like the Shack. I always have. The food is really good and the service is ok. Some servers are better than others. Michelle is great. It's not the best kept place but it's fun and the food is great. They have darts and trivia if you like those sorts of things. Come on now people, it's a bar. Go have fun and watch the game with friends or have a beer after work. As far as I know it beats the hell out of all of the other bars in Kailua.

Good spot for a happy hour beer and a detroit lions playoff game. was exactly what I wanted, so why not more stars? I don't know, maybe I should, but there was nothing extra special about this place. A good place for a drink, on a regular street with open air breezing through. folks were fun. bartenders were cool. drinks fast. all you need in a regular beer spot. would return, did return!

Went here over the weekend to watch the UCLA football game - my 1st and likely last time at the Shack Kailua. No a/c, it was sweltering hot and the tables/chairs just felt sticky and gross, unkempt. The waitresses were ok - maybe cuz I was a female, they brought me my drink and never bothered with me again, never checked to see if I needed another drink or to order food. Meanwhile, they kept checking on the guy at our table and brought him whatever he wanted.

I can never figure out what's up with that fake smoke thing billowing out of the roof -- kind of weird in a tropical climate (it is fake, isn't it?) -- but I haven't seen it lately, so it seemed safe to try again. And I got to say that I liked what I saw -- figuratively. I mean I liked what I ate. The food is Shack good: hearty, tasty. I counsel the Thunder Humper, and not just to see if you can keep from giggling while ordering it. Rather, for the basics, a well proportioned dose of the three basic food groups (burger, chili, bread). Delicious. Other stuff was good too and the fact that everything probably taqstes the same no matter what you order doesn't mean that that same isn't good. Assuming you are not eating at The Shack alone (because if you are, there are issues -- more issues than I can take on in this Yelp review) remember not to add the fries to your burger or sandwich, because that's $3 extra per order. Instead, get the basket for $5 and eat faster than your companions. The fries are good. I bet the desserts are good, too, but Burger King is still having its 75 cents ice cream cone deal, so I'll have to defer comment on Shack desserts until a later date. Am I the only one who thinks that the Keolu Shack resembles, in the interior, a Paris cafe, in the sense that mirrors are used to create the illusion of greater space? Or was there someone else in there who looked like me? Now I admit it: I didn't really like what I saw (and, no, I'm not talking about my own image in the mirror). I'm talking about the view from the deck, which compares unfavorably with the view from the deck of The Shack in Hawaii-Kai. Boat basin, good. Enchanted Lake shopping center? Tired! Not even the gas stations and Re/max office to either (visual) side can pick it up. When the Franklin craft store goes, I'm moving this to 4 stars. Because did I mention that the food tastes good?

Place located in a somewhat residential area in Kailua which I though was a little weird. There is a sign in their back parking lot which says please keep the noise level down thank you. Right next to the parking lot are a few two story walk ups so that was a bit awkward since the shack is know for loud boisterousness. I feel bad for those who live around the area. Walk in, and its the typical bar set up. High tables with high stool type chairs on the inside, the outdoor seating area has regular tables and chairs. Ordered the fries and onion rings. Fries were blah, but the onion rings were supper yummy! Nothing like deep fried foods to hit the spot. Bummed didn't really get anything else, but they did have an extensive food menu. Pitchers are OK sized, maybe 4 8 oz. of beer. They will not serve you a mixed drink with a beer or pitcher of beer but they will serve you a shot and a beer or a pitcher of beer! WTH?! I don't get it, but apparently its a Hawaii law. Like a shot is not gonna get you more messed up that a mixed drink?! Bathroom is weird, one stall for girls that you have to press the handicap button and wait 5 seconds for the door to close, then once closed you have to still lock the door. Then after you are done, same thing, unlock door than press button. And I mean those huge silver hand sized buttons with the handicapped sign on it. (Yes I am obsessed with bathrooms) Vibe is pretty chill to just come and hang out. Darts, and photo touch in house, bar musts.

Man, I have bee eating here for years! Can't stay away..........I have eaten just about everything on their menu. I think my favorite is the teriyaki chicken sandwich. It just keeps getting better and better. The waitresses are consistently hot, and always on top of their game. The only complaint I can ever come close to forming.....is that the place gets super packed nightly with sports fans yelling at one of the forty flat screen TV's with different games on....hahahahaha. This place is partially responsible for my pants not buttoning up from time to time, and I will remain a repeat customer. Tim Goodrich Aloha Tattoo Hawaii

Do not go to The Shack Kailua. The last time we were there our waitress was so rude to us! She was not at all friendly and flat out lied to us about advertised specials we had had there before and that are advertised on their website. We went with a large group of girls and would have spent a good bit of money and a couple hours of our time there, but decided to take our business elsewhere. We will not be going back.

I've had good experiences here. The bacon bleu cheese burger was reallyyyy good. Their bleu cheese sauce is fabulous. The zukes (fried zucchini sticks) were also pretty good. And I've heard good things about their wings from other people. They also have great happy hour specials for drinks and appetizers. Prices are right and I haven't encountered any bad service, even when they only had one waitress working the floor. It's just bar food, but if that's what you're looking for it's worth a try.

This is your all-American food fill me up restaurant. The juicy burgers and fixings with a side of hot crispy fries and coke is the general picture of this chain restaurant....which I was surprised to hear it wasn't just a 1 location small business, since the food doesn't taste so....mass produced--although I have to bite my tongue when it comes to their dessert selection, but that you can read down yonder. The atmosphere of the Kailua located shack is very laid back. A bar on the inside for you rowdy beer guzzlers to drunkenly sing your night away and an open air deck for family and bigger parties to hear yourself. Nothing fancy, and the exterior compliments the restaurants name with its wooden facade and grass like roof. If you like your burgers with a saucy personality, then you have arrived to saucy burger heaven. My favorite: bacon blues burger. My burger in crime partner always gets the Island burger, so it must be tasty--I have yet to try it. I have although tried to stuff every burger on the list into my little body (not in one sitting of course!) The Bacon Blues Burger is by far the one that I always want to order. Juicy burger with a hot bun, smothered in creamy blue cheese dressing and topped with crispy meaty bacon. The Ortega Burger is very mild...more like a sweet taste than spicy. It has a giant grilled Ortega pepper sliced open, laying flat on the top of all your fixings and jalapeño cheese. Not too flavorful but gives the right amount of sweetness. The Guacamole Burger is much spicier than the Ortega Burger. If I could relate these two burgers to my personal life growing up, the Ortega is me, mild and not too much, and the Guacamole is my brother....a lot to handle and that kick in your...well on burger terms, mouth. The Guac is a messy burger, so be prepared! It's like The Blob took over my guacamole burger and piled on guacamole sauce and jalapeno cheese. I would give this slippery sucker another try only if they don't overload it again....that poor burger and buns! Not so fast my little yelpers, this isn't over! My biggest disappointment was the cheese steak. No flavor and just done horribly wrong. My Philadelphia roots just shook my head at this one. Feel free to skip on ordering it unless you like bland flavors and uncooked peppers and onions.

I've been to the shack a couple times and I liked it but today was very upsetting. I ordered a strawberry daiquiri and when I got it I tasted it and it had coconut in it and I cant have coconut so when I asked the waitress she came back and said for future ordering a daiquiri always has coconut in it, I said I've never had one with coconut in it she continued to argue with me about it and finally I was like just forget the drink its okay and the second she walked away I heard her loudly exclaim to the bartender "oh my gosh shes trying to tell me there's never coconut shes looking it up on her phone oh my gosh" and just bad mouth me when I can hear her. I decided to walk out. Very poor customer service. I'm so disappointed

I went to The Shack last night after an evening swim at Lanikai. My friend was the one who suggested it. I've never been there but she said that she thought they might have the best wings on the island. So that's what we got. Although, the pastrami sandwich sounded really good... It did seem to have a neighborhood vibe. Typical neighborhood bar scene that you would expect in Kailua. The wings were good. I wish I had known that they had a jukebox, I would've checked the music but I didn't see until we were leaving. And I wish they had more of a craft beer selection. If that's your thing, Blue Moon is what you have to work with. I would've been happy to see Big Wave, (Wait, I think they did have KB Fire Rock also!) or Shock Top...or dare I say FAT TIRE?! (Just kidding. I know. HI doesn't have that.) Even if it was in bottles! But again, wings were awesome with the right amount of spice and the service was good.

This place was better than I was expecting. Not many watering holes in Kailua had gotten good reviews, so I wasn't expecting much. Upon entry, you'll notice the pub-height tables, a few arcade games for the kiddies and the obligatory beach/surfer vibe - however it's not over the top like you see at the tourist joints in Waikiki. As a bonus, they had video trivia that you could play at your table! The menu was varied enough, and their special Shack Burger is worthy of the accolades. I went on a Tuesday and it was happy hour all night, so the drinks were a great deal. About ten beers on tap, served in very chilled pint glasses, so I could have stayed way beyond my limit. The service was good, though it got full around dinner time and the waitresses became busy and a scarce. I would definitely go back!

Great place to escape, eat some food, drink a beer and watch a game on TV. I love the Chili or the Chicken Salad. The casual environment is easy going.

This will be sweet and simple: Go here during happy hour. Cheap beer, wine, and cocktails. Great typical-American food . Never really empty. Plenty of TVs all around you. What else do you need?

I had a very bad experience recently :( Good drink specials, but not good food unfortunately. In all honesty, if you've had a few it's amazing, but otherwise, it's quite mediocre. Atmosphere is very nice though, I like it regardless. Also, word to the wise, don't get the ribs if you want good ribs that is, because they don't have them, just FYI :(

I was at the shack on a Tuesday evening. It was not busy at all. I sat at a table for 30 minutes and not once was I asked if I wanted a drink or if I wanted to order food. I ask a waitress to come take my order and she said ok I'll be there shortly. 10 minutes later still no service. I got up and left and went to The Kailua Pub! This is the 4th times I've been to The Shack and will be the last. Horrible service and food. Yes, I'm local and no I'm not white.

Why can't they b good like all "the shack's" in hawaii?

Poop & Poop. Come to Hawaii for this!?!?! If you live here and need a dive bar, great. If you are a tourist with screaming kids to pacify, great. Else, give this dump a miss cause the food sucks like the atmosphere.

The Shack reminds me of places on the mainland just a cool bar with great bar food.

We didn't eat any food and Ill update this rating next time if we do. We came here to watch the Monday Night Football game and the atmosphere was great. Everyone was really into the game and it was very enjoyable. Drinks were a decent price, bartenders were friendly and fast. We will be coming back next sunday... go Chargers!

Ok, I like all the other locations. Why can't the one closest to me be just as good? I can't really complain about their food, but I can't compliment it, either. The woman's barfroom, I mean bathroom, needs a major shot of bleach followed by a scrub down. The service is so.....what am I looking for....nonexistent. Like my rating states, Methinks not ever going back.

Look, I think I have spent more time in this place then at my own home! It has everything you want in a bar...good food, friendly people and sports on TV. The beer is ice cold and affordable and its always packed with rowdy locals. Go, get a bucket of wings a pitcher of beer, watch the Chargers beat whoever and blow off some steam. I know its not the Black Swan restaurant, but it never claims to be...I mean its called the shack afterall!!! Take care!

the food is good but i think because I was so cranky when we went i'm a little biased. It was more of a bar atmosphere than a restaurant. It was pretty loud and the service wasn't bad, just a little slow .. all in all if your just goin for the food order some delivery

I was craving wings...real, hot, wet wings a la Wings N More in Texas. When I searched "wings"on yelp, I got a bunch of Asian places and this one. So, this is where I ended up. The wings were exactly what I was craving.....very hot (I hate it when it says spicy and it's not really spicy) and greasy. We asked for them extra wet, and they delivered. They were a little weird because we had to "disjoint" them ourselves, but they were so delicious. Paired with chili cheese fries ($6.25) and a pitcher of beer (for $7.75!!!), I felt like I was back in Texas. FYI...just in case you weren't sure, this is a straight-up bar....but we still saw lots of kids.

Have been there many times before so knew what to expect, but this time was Xmas eve...music was loud as ususal but to have christmas songs so loud was kind of irritating. Ordered the bacon burger (bbq) and wife got the cheeseburger. Waitress brought a bacon blue cheese burger. When I brought this to the waitress' attention she took off the cost of my burger. Nice xmas gift! I would give the place another star but the table was sticky! Had to put napkins down so we didn't have to put our elbows on the table. I thought the service was fine. Would go back again.

I guess I the low score the food just kinda okay. Their onion rings taste like some cheap-o frozen. I have been 3 times now. Once for a going away last year, and twice over the last year me and the wife looking for some bar food. Sorry Shack 2 stars. Good for small groups. I marked not good for kids since it is really a bar and some simple food.

I have been to the shack twice now. It is pretty much a bar, not a place to get good food. The first time I had a hamburger. It was ok but a little crispy. The second time I had a chicken sandwich. It tasted pretty good, but I got diarrhea an hour later which lasted a couple of days. After that experience, I won't be returning.

I used to live down the street from the Shack. It was a fantastic place to get away from school and work and just have a drink and some good food and relax.

I have been going to The Shack since way back in the day, and what has been written here is pretty much spot on: great drinks and awesome pub grub. The Shack Burger (with Portuguese Sausage) is about as good as a burger gets (no offense to the mighty Double Double). But the location... on one hand it is nice having it so close to my house, but this bar really should be overlooking the beach, not the bus stop. Oh, and as to what was said about the ordering system--you go to the counter to order food during the lunch, and odd hours, but during dinner just sit down at a table, and a waitress will find you. Someone also mentioned smoking on the outside patio--as of my last few visits no one was smoking and there were no ashtrays out, but YMMV. Don't forget to ask about the specials. I was last there on a Thursday, they had beer on tap for 2 bucks (including imports).

This is a great place to grab a cold one and chill out. Make sure you are there to get a buzz on but aren't hungry or on a time schedule. I got the chef salad and it came out in a horse traugh (it will feed a family of 4 just make sure they like vegetables with no taste), this is definately a great place to get burgers or the plate luch. The staff is really nice and laid back the atmosphere is cool. SHOTS!!!! There is no belvedere. so go for th Grey Goose bra! HOLLA!

This place isn't an epicenter of culinary excellence or anything else. . but they make a delicious greasy burger, guaranteed to give you heart burn before you even get home. Outside they have this little mist machine to keep you from baking in the Hawaiian sun too much and the beer is cold. Don't come in expecting some hoppenin' club or trendy bar. If you're looking for some tasty bar food & cold beer it's worth coming in.

The OG shack! This place used to be a ton of fun. I'm not sure what happened over the years. Its still a great place to go grab a brewski and some grub. Some of the same people working there for years, I like to see familiar faces. I think that maybe the place needs a new management staff or something, like I said, it used to be a lot of fun.

This is our favorite hangout on the windward side and we go there about once a week. The service is always good and the prices are reasonable but we love sitting outside on the lanai. They open at 7am for NFL Sundays and have plenty of TVs to watch all the games and have good breakfast specials. I've had almost everything they make and it's all pretty good. Most of the appetizers are the standard deep fried variety and the sandwiches are decent, but my favorite things are the burgers, wings and the enormous oriental chicken salad. I crave their wing sauce and get it as a side for everything. We love going on Saturday nights because they have one dollar well drinks after 8pm. It can get very crowded and very noisy when it is busy so don't go there for a quiet date night. Overall, The Shack is just your average sports bar, but we keep coming back for the friendly service and the open air setting. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because they are the only sports bar that doesn't have nachos! It is hard to be objective on this review since we've had so many good times there, but I've never met anyone who didn't love the chicken wings so don't pass them up.

This review is only food and raspberry ice tea. When we arrived late due to traffic and rain/wind, hot wings, onion rings and french fries were already on the table. The hot wings were not hot (i.e., spicy) and the other things were cold already but can't judge because they might have been warm originally. But the hot wings were definitely lacking in hotness level. Hubby ordered salad with scoop of tuna salad; lots of lettuce in a HUGE bowl. I asked waitress if "homemade chili was original recipe" and was told it came in a can. Hummm, I wonder if homemade is the name of the company making the chili for them or does it come from Sam's or Costco? Anyway, the chili is not something to write home about and I would avoid it if you choose to go to the Shack. The good news is that the raspberry ice tea is bottomless; the bad news is that the proportion of water added must have been doubled or tripled because it was almost tasteless. Come on, read the directions for mixing the powdered stuff. How hard can that be? It was like water with a drop of pink food coloring at the bottom of the glass. Okay, looking on the bright side, it was a bottomless drink..... so I gave the experience a 2 star. Don't go there if you like half-way decent food.... wait, maybe that is the reason to go there..... It is definitely not a place I would choose to return to another time. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. The Big Mac across the street started looking like a gourmet restaurant after wasting $$ at the Shack. Makes me wonder how the other Shacks are but not enough to get to actually go to another location for a second opinion. There are better places to sit and have a burger or chili cheese fries and a drink.

This is the place to go if you want a warm atmosphere in which to enjoy a cocktail & a football game. The service is friendly & the employees are wonderful. That said, it's NOT the place to eat--the kitchen is DISGUSTING.

We went to this place since the restaurant we were planning on going to was closed. It looked like it had a good menu so we checked it out. The consensus was that the food was fantastic. We tried the Shack double burger and two of the chicken burgers and they all went down quite well. The drink prices were also pretty good which was nice as well. It also had a dive bar atmosphere and a friendly staff. Conclusion: Excellent burgers, good drink selection and prices, and friendly dive bar atmosphere.

Mmmmmmm! the Shack burger. Some friends and I actually found another location in the center of the island first and then tried this one out as well. Great place to just relax, drink some beers, and eat some really big time burgers. Very relaxed atmosphere and the shack burger is amazing! a spicy sausage on top of a burger with pepperjack cheese. This changed the way that i make burgers at home. It makes me sad that SD is almost 3000 miles away from the Shack.

Great view of the bus-stop across from a strip mall. Actually this was a huge plus to us because we traveled to Hawaii with our toddler who really really loves buses. We kept coming back here because the kid would stay quiet through his meal, we could drink cold beer and eat decent burgers. We kinda fell in love with it. Our friend who lives in Hawaii recommended it because he used to work in Kailua and he often would come here to watch games that were broadcast at weird times. So thanks Johnny C, you saved our vacation with a decent kid-friendly bar and grill. What's not to love?

I went here back in the '90's when I was a squid. Stopped in again in November 2005 and it had not changed a bit. Just like Meg M. said. Good burgers and good beers. They have a funny way of getting your food though. We had to order at the bar and then go back to pick up our food when they called out name. I'll go back next time I'm in Kailua.

Had lunch today at the original "The Shack" in Enchanted Lake. Have I just been spoiled by Kua Aina and Teddy's or have the burgers at the Shack gone downhill? The toppings were fine, but the burger itself was a prefab mc patty disk of mediocre quality, not what I remember a shack burger being.

A great place to kick back, watch a game and drink a cold beer with friends. The menu is looking good for the meat-eaters as hey have a wide variety of mouth watering burgers to choose from. People can and do smoke on the porch (one of the only set backs)
