Wanted a quick bite and was in the mood for Korean. This is the only place near me serving Korean food. Prices are reasonable and food quality is mediocre. I ordered BBQ chicken (which was thin and dry) and meat jun. you get what you pay for. No complaints besides dry chicken. We will return.

Ohana BBQ is known for their very reasonably priced korean take out food. You get what you pay for though: the quality of food isn't great, the ambiance leaves something to be desired and the waitress is downright unfriendly. It's conveniently located right next to a liquor store off of Kailua road, and there is always parking available in the small lot. I think most patrons come here for take out, but if you do (wrongfully) decide to eat in, don't expect any kind of service. The waitress literally took our orders, brought out our food and that's it. We had to go up to the counter to pay... They have a wide selection of food and a lot of combo plate options. Obviously the most popular items: bbq chicken, bbq beef and meat jun are not the most authentic korean food options. I mean...there aren't very many dukbokki, naengmyeon (cold noodle) or tofu stew options (my top three favorite korean foods). On my last visit, I settled for spicy bbq pork ribs. You get to choose from a selection of sides, my favorites include radish kimchi and cucumber kimchee. The ribs had a nice spicy sauce, but they weren't tender, fall off the bone delish. Will I be back? Ehhh when the boyfriend is craving korean take out. Maybe. It's cheap, so it has that going for them.

I only gave it one star because I couldn't go into the negative. This place is hands down the worse place I have ever been to eat. The place is dirty. We ordered a platter which I am sure came recycled from someone else's dish. The chicken was beyond dry and the Kalbi can be described as beef jerky. To top it off the service was bad. Dining should be an experience. This place was a place of horrors.

Ohana is straight up delicious. Under-priced and under-rated. The interior is dated and small kine dark and grundgy- but unless you're a snob- it won't bother you. The seats and tables are always clean, and Aunty is pure of heart. Every local style item is grindz. I love the combo plate cuz get options and no can go wrong. The Fish Jun is not fishy at all and quite flavorful. The BBQ spicy pork ribs are super tender and covered in thick sweet and spicy Korean sauce. With every entree you get FOUR choice vegetable which is my fav. I'm sure local people feel more comfortable here than the tourists- which is part of the charm. But if you are from mainland and want to see what local Korean style plate lunch is all about- come hang with the Ohana!

Decided to try this place tonight because of the reviews. We waited 20+ minutes just to have someone bring us water and take our order. The lady wasn't very friendly and really only made grunting noises when answering you. Probably wont come back here to eat but instead will try out Willow Tree in Aikahi.

Good service in a nice quiet environment. The food is always cooked well and the portions are great. Pricing is as expected for this quality of food. Really reasonable in my opinion. Would recommend to friends and would eat there again.

If you are looking for top notch service and a visual experience, this is not the place for you. This is a booth seating diner dive establishment with pretty darn good food! Husband and I come here when we have a hankern' for Korean. Mark loves loves loves the "Korean Style BBQ" It comes out on a cast iron sizzling plate. Its quite yummy, not too too sweet. We always choose 5 sides - NO rice. Sides are good. Nothing super special like the Ma & Pa hole in the wall mysterious delectable's of yesteryear, but good. Again...not too sweet like how sooooo many other Korean restaurants are doing these days. I like their meat jun combo. I mix it up sometimes with Korean style Kalbi (more expensive) or the spicy or bbq chicken. I always ask for a side of straight vinegar because I like my meat jun sauce vinigar-y. We just like this place...I dont have to dress up or put make up on its very unpretentious. Only had a bad experience maybe 3 times. They were all about in a years time; part of 2012 and 2013. But we kept coming back because I thought they were just having family issues and they would eventually get things sorted out. We believed in the owners of this place (private people) and their food. Yup, we like this little diner. Oh and as to the folks with negative comments about the cleanliness, I think they heard you. They have done some painting and the place seems to have cleaned up a bit since we first started coming here.

I love the Kalbi from this place. Kimchi and other sides are ok, not the best but pretty ono. The combo sampler pack for 12$ or so is a pretty solid deal if you want to try more but I just go for the Kalbi now. Slightly dark and cold atmosphere but that's cool with me.

Ehhh. Me thinks not. Expensive and small portions. Meat was dry. No military discount.

Kalbi- ono Portions-alright. Price- depending on what you get, things can be real reasonable, or a bit questionable. my kal bi was 9.95, and like i said the portio.s aren't big. my dad had the bee bim kook soo, which was 7.75 and the portion was about the size of a packed footlong from subway. thats alot of noodles!

Ohana BBQ was not what I was expecting. I was told the food was good and the service speedy. Fast was right, but ohanas was anything but good. My husband got cold meat jun which gave him food poisoning, the food looked and smelled old and what was edible made me nautious because of the Abundance of MSG packed into the food. Not just the worst Korean food I have ever eaten, this was some of the worst food I have ever tried! Close this disgusting place!

This place has been open for years in Kailua and is one of the only Korean Restaurants in the town. I use to come here with my friends all the time when we wanted to moww down some good korean grub. The food was great before, good size portions and tasted awesome. Today was the first time I'd been back to this place in about two years. Must be new owners, cooks??? Because the food quality has decreased greatly, so has the portion sizes but oddly the prices went up? lol nice... Customer Service is pretty slow and considering that we were 2 of the only 5 customers in the place I figured service would be more attentive and speedier. I was wrong..The lady serving us was not the friendliest and she did not greet us, just put menu's down and left. Came back with water ,2 little bowls of seaweed soup and to take our order a few minutes later. My cousin ordered the Kalbi & Meat Jun combo and I ordered the Ohana's Special (Kalbi,Meat Jun,Chicken Katsu,Barbeque Beef,Barbeque Chicken and Shrimp Tempura) that's alot of food but I like having options .We also ordered a side of french fries &Spicy Ika. Food came out about 15 minutes later. It looked pretty good but the true testament was in the taste. Total Fail! Everything basically tasted the same, how the hell could that be? If I closed my eyes I couldnt tell if i was eating Meat Jun,Kalbi,Bar b que beef or Bar b ques chicken. The only difference was the chicken katsu and only due to textural differences. The taste was seriously the same. Like eating different textures that all have the same freakin taste. Useless to even offer a variety. The shrimp tempura looked like it was butterflied then ran over with a Semi about a thousand times. It was so effen hard i could have flung it like a frisbee and it would have took someone's head off it they were hit by it. Ok a little dramatic on the decapitation but I'm not kidding it was super hard. I bounced it off my damn plate to demonstrate to my cousin of how hard it was. She agreed that her food wasnt the greatest either. The Spicy Ika was alright but kinda rubbery ,we only ate about a forth of it and left the rest behind. French fries were the best thing we had there. The prices are high for mediocre crappy food. Very Sad knowing that this place was once great and now is nowhere near that. I highly doubt i will ever eat at this place again.

This is the real deal. We were visiting family in Kailua from San Francisco and looking for some authentic local bbq. Great lunch!

Okay, this place is dirty...I ordered a tofu soup trying to overlook the dirtiness. So when my food got to the table. I swear the soup smelled like a dirty dish towel. I sniffed around to see if it was something else. I smelled the sides and then the soup. It was horrible. It smelled rotten. I didnt want to make a big deal of it because I know that its a mom and pop restaurant and they are just trying to make a living. I tried to eat it but couldnt. The smell made me want to puke. I went ahead and paid the bill and told the owner (the wife) that it smelled bad and thought it might be rotten. She basically told me I was wrong...I left. Never ever ever going back!

May 2011: This is a place my husband Tony and I loved! The Ohana BBQ is a Korean hole-in-the-wall place that serves delicious plate lunches. It's located in a tiny shopping strip and off the main road. We found it simply as we drove around the area. The inside is basic with tables and booths. Nothing fancy but you come here for the food. We first started out with a miso type soup. I ordered the Kalbi ribs and chicken katsu and four types of vegetables: Pickled cucumber and bean sprouts, kimchee, and cabbage. There's about a dozen Korean vegetables to choose from. Tony had the same ribs and a beef Jun, which was thinly sliced beef that was egg-battered and pan-fried. Oh so ono! Everything was good and the portions large. Prices were very reasonable and there's lots to choose from. If you can find this place, go!

I've been coming here for years. Environment is small and is in use of a good cleaning but the food makes up for it. Great kalbi and spicy pork but the best is the ohana special. Its only $13 and its enough to feed 2. And the lunch specials are only $6. I will be back.

Finally stepped in after 2 decades of rolling by stopped in and had the kalbi ribs and beef Jun, which was thinly sliced beef that was egg-battered and pan-fried. Everything was good and the portions more than adequate. In addition it comes with 4 sides. A tad more than I could eat, and it was delicious! I'll be back soon. Food: 4.0 Service: 4.0 Cleanliness: 2.5 Over all: 3.5

Very quick place to grab a bite. Never have had to wait long. A bit pricier than preferred at $9.38 for a reg. bbq chicken and 4 sides. Still, hits the spot. I'd hit it again for quickie.

We went to Ohana BBQ the other day and the owner was watching Korean TV in the dining room. From what I gather the show was about making kimchi, which was funny because it seems like they use the Best Quality brand straight out of the jar. Hmm, I could be wrong, of course. Anyway, Chuck M. is right: Korean BBQ is hard to mess up. Regardless of that fact, I still don't know if or when I'll ever be back to try their Kalbi. There are much better options nearby.

Pretty good Korean food, but prices have gone up recently. The veggies are always great, standard selection; I get the bean sprouts, Daikon, kim chee, and potatoes. I love the meat jun here!

It's Korean Food. Is there anyway to mess up Korean Food? They definitely give great portions. Eat the Kalbi. Really soft and flavorful. Lots of sidesa to choose from. Go ahead and get your grub on.

I ordered the spicy pork ribs. The marinade was awesome ... not too spicy and not too sweet. A good balance. The meat was very tender. The only problem I had was regarding portion size. Usually, Korean places are very generous with the amount of food that you receive. Especially near the beach. Great variety of kimchee. Its an alright place.

Disappointed i found a little roach on my rice. The lady gave me another plate. Other than that The food were ok. I had a small mandoo plate and my husband had Korean kalbi. The portion were small compare to other Korean kalbi restaurants. Also a little over priced for the portions they give.

  • Tad N.

just went there again and ordered some fried mandoo. This was the worst I have ever had! It was so oily and hard...like they refried an old order. will never order that again...not sure if I will ever go back.

For what you get this place is actually pretty good. It's not a super nice restaurant but It's a lot better than what you would expect. The Lunch Special is a great deal. The fact that you get soup prior to your meal is a nice touch. All in all this a good place for Korean Food in the Kailua area.
