Went here for breakfast walked over from the Maui Beach Hotel. Pro: cheap, nice staff, good food Cons: dated interior Overall: would eat here again. Huge menu a lot to choose from. Only order basic breakfast it was good and cheap. Will be back for lunch.

Service was great, wait time was fast, kid friendly environment and great for big groups. However, the quality of food was bad. My husband ordered the lechon and it was terrible, the meat was very rubbery and hard to eat it was a pretty small portion of the plate for $16. I suggest they remove it from the menu because whoever might order it will turn it away from the restaurant. I had the combo of chicken adobo and pork and peas for $13.25, I'm better off getting a combo like that at a local Filipino store for less the price and bigger the portion. It wasn't all that, the pork and peas was very greasy with full of fat. Chicken adobo wasn't that great either. What made up to my dining was the excellent customer service the employees had provided.

As soon as I stepped in, I wasn't sure I wanted to stay. Because it was Sunday, many places were closed and Tante's was one of the few options left for Hawaiian cuisine. The interior was dated and the space did not look completely clean. After days of eating at amazing restaurants across Maui, I wasn't used to the negative ambience that I experienced here. My friends and I all ordered the Chicken Katsu. When it came out, it seemed to be a generous portion until we realized that the katsu just had a ridiculous amount of breading. The little chicken that was left also did not taste fresh. Maybe it was because we came it at an odd hour right before dinner, but I did not feel comfortable at Tante's. The service was also subpar. If I were to vacation to Maui again, I would not revisit.

We had a nice dinner experience here, despite a very long wait. We stayed at the hotel next door, but since our hotel didn't offer much options for food, we decided to explore and wander over next door to try this place after seeing the good reviews. However, we did not anticipate the huge crowd of people waiting for dinner at this hotel restaurant, but it was Mother's Day and we did not make a reservation so our only option was to wait for about 1.5 hr. We were literally the last group they let in, and by the time our food was served they were cleaning up the restaurant for the night.. which may be why my salmon was undercooked. The rest of our meals were good, the Kalua cream pie was amazing, so overall a good dinner experience.

For those following my breakfast woes and the search for a properly cooked egg you won't be surprised to learn I was once again disappointed. Snotty whites for eggs over medium once again. Typically I'd toss 4 stars, but this isn't a "breakfast" joint and the Topsilog is amazing otherwise. Pair this with the Kona coffee they serve and a squirt of Siracha on the amazing garlic rice and you've got yourself a great breakfast (minus the forked up eggs obviously lol). Twice now (first time was a year ago) I didn't realize the meal came with some form of tasty beef so I ordered a side of sausage.... Tantes is worth a try. Have yet to try their dinner offerings....but the menu looks tasty.

I met up with my friend for some GRINDZ today, and since we were on Maui...........I was looking for a new place to eat, which led me to - Tante's Island Cuisine. On the Yelp page, Tante's Island Cuisine says that they serve American, Seafood, & Hawaiian food..........but I think they should also include Filipino food. As we walked into the restaurant, the signs says to grab a menu and sit yourself down. As soon as we get seated, a friendly waitress comes by to greet us, and drop off some water. As we sat, I looked around the restaurant, and noticed the decor of the restaurant reminded me of a nice clean touristy spot. Of course since the restaurant was adjacent to the Maui Seaside Hotel, no wonder it looked that way......as I guess they had to give it that "touristy" look for our visitors who come to the beautiful island of Maui. After looking over the menu, I decide to have some Filipino food today, and chose a combo of - Chicken Adobo & Pork with Pea and Pimientos. My friend ended up picking the Deluxe Saimin with Won Ton. What can I say about the grub....... I really enjoyed my lunch today, the chicken was cooked in the adobo sauce long enough that the chicken was so soft and coming off the bone. The pork and pea was also enjoyable......just like a stew. With my meal, I also got a scope of white rice (sorry, they don't serve brown) & a scope of sweet potato salad. I gotta tell you.........I actually ate my sweet potato salad, yeah it had mayonnaise, but I ate it anyway as it was unique to me and the mayonnaise was not too heavy on the salad. My friend was liked his saimin, but for some reason was expecting more won tons, but in actuality only got (1) fried gau gee in the saimin. I think he was kinda bummed, as he was expecting more. Lol! Overall a nice touristy restaurant, fast & friendly service. Free parking in the private parking lot (which is shared by the Maui Seaside hotel). Tasty ono GRINDZ too! Check 'em out gang.......no can go wrong! P.S. - Before I forget......please note on da menu: there was a - "Quad Loco Moco Challenge". What is the "Quad Loco Moco Challenge?" - You have 45 minutes to eat 4 hamburger patties (2 lbs. total), Eight (8) eggs, & 4 servings of rice..........so basically you eat (4) plates of the Loco Moco dish.......and if you can do it within 45 minutes, you get a FREE meal! If you can't finish off the meal, then the meal is $35.00.Lol! In my younger day.........I might have attempted to do something like this, as I have been known to "throw down" in my time! In fact, I did eat all of the fried rice plate at Times Coffee Shop in Kailua back in da day..........and if you ever seen that plate, it would blow your mind! But eating like that now? Well, I think I'll leave it to the youngsters! Lol!

Our first meal in Maui. We had just come from the airport during the late afternoon. We were starved and just wanted food in our stomach. Unfortunately, it took them quite a while to take our order and actually give us the food. grr. After we got over our hangriness, we settled for the loco moco and the chicken salad. The food was fairly good and generously portioned. The salad came with a huge filet of chicken breast and an array of fruits while the loco moco was drenched in gravy and topped with two eggs. This meal totally turned our hanger into food coma. Overall, nice looking family diner. The place is quite big and food is decent, no regrets.

Good, but nothing spectacular. I wish my Portuguese sausage was cooked a little more. The ketchup kinda tasted sour. The potatoes were great, along with the POG juice which I always love. :)

Loved their fresh papaya and potato wedges! That's about it. I'm surprised that this place got 4 stars! We had wait for 20 mins before I walked to the counter to ask for someone to attend us. My husband asked for over-easy eggs, but received poached eegs. They hardly checked on us and we had to wave our hand or wait for a waiter to cross us to ask for something. We noticed a couple other tables had similar problem. The centre of my pancakes were pasty and their sauce bottle was kept open. Wouldn't go back or suggest the place to anyone. I also noticed a lady that worked there yelling very rudely at our waiter when I went back in to get my backpack. He was clearly embarrassed, but tried covering it with his smile. It made me a little upset.

Tante is pretty close to OGG airport so it was a good spot to go get food as soon as we landed. The good - close to the airport - lots of available table - generous portions - love that furikake batter The bad - s'okay Blow by Blow - Furikake chicken + salad I really like the batter. It reminds of fried oyster (Kaki Age) in flavor (the batter, the meat still tasted like chicken) and texture. I'd get this again. 4*s for this dish! -LocoMoco The eggs is done anyway you like. The gravy is a tad saltier than I like but I think all the LocoMoco we tasted in this trip was like that

So you will need to decide that you are going to eat like a local before you go here. I am giving them 5 stars because you cannot give 4 1/2, so I rounded up to 5. My wife had the Mahi Mahi fried in panko, excellent. I had a nice combo Luau dinner, for $20 bucks it had an amazing coconut sauce, scallops and excellent fish. It was suppose to come with shrimp, mine had none. I told the waitress and she immediately brought out 2 nice pieces. For the money, great value. We were too wiped out to drink but for $85 out the door for 4 people excellent food. The place is for locals, so you walk in and the host says how many, we say 4 and he hands us 4 menus and says sit where ever you want. It is attached to an older 60's type of hotel, so this ain't Front Street, but I will tell you I have paid 2X for worse food in Maui.

Had their pork adobo and char Sui fried rice. It was delicious. Service was a bit slow .

  • Lynn L.

Service was awesome. They greeted me as soon as I walked into the door, handed me a menu and told me that I could sit anywhere I wanted to. Someone came within a few minutes to take my order. Food came out fast. Ate here for dinner and got the combo of furikake chicken and boneless kalbi with rice. It was delicious and the portions were big. I couldn't finish it all. I would come here again. Location was very convenient since I was staying at the maui seaside hotel, where this restaurant is located.

Service was slow and the food was okay.. I expected better for the prices. As its attached to a hotel I suppose they don't have to worry too much about a customer base, but, yeah, not my favorite stop

I've heard mainly positive reviews on this place and finally got the chance to try it. ATMOSPHERE: Located in the front of the Maui Seaside Hotel. It reminds me of your typical grandparent's dining room but on a larger scale. Old decor, indoor plants, bright lights (thankfully not fluorescent), and ceiling fans abound. It was really quiet when we got there at 5pm as there was no background music, no TV's, not even a bar. There are big glass windows with a pleasant garden view. Despite the restaurant being at the front of the hotel, the view of the parking lot is hidden by a high lava rock wall. It's a mix of table & booth seating and they're able to accommodate large parties and private events. MENU: It's a big menu. Mix of local, American, and Filipino apps, entrees, and desserts. FOOD: Cream of Broccoli Soup - This accompanied my entree (other choice was a salad.) The soup was creamy and very tasty, and a bit spicy from the visible red chili specks. No crackers, boo. Shrimp Alfredo - I'm usually hesitant to try pasta dishes at local restaurants due to fear of disappointment. While this wasn't the best tasting I've had, it was decent. The five shrimps were perfectly cooked; juicy and crunchy. The sauce flavor was very mainstream, subtle, and possibly bottled then doctored up. The overcooked linguine was a disappointment, though the garlic bread was tasty. Meh. DESSERT: Kona Mud Pie - Wow, I thought I was back at the now defunct Chart House! The Oreo crust was delish, and the coffee ice cream stood tall and proud, complete with chocolate sauce, chopped nuts, and whipped cream. I absolutely adore ice cream. SERVICE: The male host was friendly and inviting. Our male server was the same and very attentive. It's a small restaurant so they seem to help each other out. OVERALL: Good food and prices and a very extensive menu. I'd definitely go back to try more.

Located within the Maui Seaside Hotel this place is very Hawaiian. It feels Hawaiian and is very laid back meaning that there are a lot of servers who expect you to not be in a hurry. This is all good. Had the Nachos grande with Kailua pork and it was outstanding. No cheese though but still exceptional. Guacamole, fresh maui onion, sour cream, beans, Kailua pork, tomatoes and of course tortilla chips. Had a Kona longboard lager and it was a perfect combo for first night on Maui. Nice place if you are close but not sure if a drive over 20 minutes would be worth it.

Ok, I must admit I was not expecting much here. My family was on island vacationing over Christmas and New Year from Chicago and we were craving Filipino food. This place is attached to a hotel and was not easy to find. We got there around 5:30pm on New Year's Eve and there were only a few diners but by the time we left, it was packed! The food was amazing! Portions were big and for Filipino food, was plated beautifully. The Sinigang was bursting with all kinds of seafood and probably best I've had outside of mom's of course. Try this place. You will love it.

This place is a hidden gem. I had breakfast here 3 days as well as came back for dinner one night. They have a wide selection of local cuisine. Their loco moco is one of the best I have had in Maui. Mai tai is good too. Very friendly staff and top notch service. Will definitely come back here again.

I went for my birthday to get a good seafood platter and it looked like a good local place to eat. They had a lot of alcoholic drink selection which was nice and a large menu. The $42 platter had a lot of food on it but it was mediocre. Everything tasted frozen. I was actually really paranoid I was going to be sick the next day - it just had that feel to it. I got a baked potato with my platter which is one of my favorite foods and I got a plain potato with topping on the side in a carousel for the sour cream, butter, bacon and chives that is obviously used by other customers and was absolutely not refrigerated properly. That was kind of disgusting. I shouldn't pay $50 for a meal and be honestly worried I'm going to be sick the next day.

My husband and I were staying at the Maui Seaside hotel after 18 hours of traveling to the island. We decided to give Tante's a try since it's in the hotel. The service was very nice and pleasant. Do yourself a favor and get the passion orange juice. We had never tried papaya before so we ordered some. It came out fresh with some spoons to dig in. I ordered the Hawaiian French toast which wasn't as sweet as I expected but delicious and fluffy. My husband had the pineapple pancakes which he said were good, but after taking a bit of my French toast he said mine was better. The Kona Blend coffee was strong which isn't my preference as a light roast fan, but my husband who is a coffee enthusiast says it's delicious.

This place amazed me! What a hidden gem! We came here when we were staying at Maui Seaside Hotel since it was located in the front of the hotel. It was basically empty when we arrived around 6pm, so I was dubious at first, but this place simply wowed me with its hospitality and food. (The place did slowly get filled up towards the end of our meal, but kept its quiet atmosphere) I ordered lava flow for drink and the Luau combo plate for share with my party of two. The portion was great for the two of us, which came with three purple sweet potato scoops (dayum, that was probably the tastiest potato variety I have ever had), a small side of poi (which I never really liked during my visit in Hawaii, but I could tell the poi at Tante's was better than others), and four different types of meat, incl. mahi mahi, ahi, chicken and beef (which were all very delicious). I wish I could go back again, often. I miss Maui and my dinner at Tante's.

Resturant looks great and comfortable chairs. Order breakfast served fast by a friendly waitress. Although I ordered Tea it never arrived (not on bill). Ala carte can be pricey with main dishes Food 3-starts Ambience 4-starts Price-reasonable

C'mon! Give em 5 stars! This ain't Paris....it's Kahului and this food is goooooood! Tante knows island food! Get the Furikake Salmon! Omg. Anyone would love it and it a Big portion of fish. My waitress Diana was extra nice and had a nice smile.

The loco moco is delicious. The macadamia chicken was yummy. Lots of flavor and big portions. The juice is so good and fresh flavor. The fish is so fresh here. Great customer service and awesome pies.

  • Craig T.

Used to frequent Tante's on the Big Island...first try on Maui. Good food...local style. The Loco Moco was tasty with a generous pile of gravy to 'soak' the rice! The pleasant surprise was the Pork Adobo Fried Rice - not your typical fried rice. Service was fast even though the restaurant was quite full for breakfast, though the parking is terrible at the Seaside. We added on a short stack of pancakes and bill still was under $25. For the visitors to the islands, don't let the unknown (adobo) frighten you...it us a style of cooking that our Filipino community brings to us and trust me, you indeed will like their style if cooking...it truly brings the flavors of Hawaii full circle.

The service and food has compelled me to write my first yelp review. I came with a party of 4 and we all shared a bit of each of our dishes, all of them were spectacular! We compared it to The Cheesecake Factory, all agreeing that the food here was better. I had the Furikake Crusted Salmon, I don't usually like fish but dayum! Delicious! Came with a cup of Clam Chowder that was plentiful with clam bits, flavorful sweet potato salad, and garlic linguine. My dish was the last to come of the 4, it did take a bit, the waitress kindly apologized and compensated for the wait with two free desserts! If that's not great service, I don't know what is. Too bad 5 stars is as much as Yelp allows me to give!

Had the cheeseburger and fries. Sad presentation but the patty was seasoned very well with onions in the ground beef. Very friendly staff and pretty good cocktails. Bill was $43 for 2 people, including cocktails...I guess not too bad.

My family was vacationing in Hawaii over Thanksgiving. We didn't think we would end up with a Thanksgiving dinner this year, but we found this place. They had a delicious Thanksgiving special! Great value and delicious food! Everyone was pleasantly surprised. Delicious stuffing, great potatoes, yummy cranberry sauce, and AMAZING pumpkin cheesecake! Awesome and friendly staff too! *Update*: Went back a few days later for the regular menu. Still amazing! Mac nut crusted ahi and adobo was delicious!!

Ate lunch at Tantes. First time here. Heard a lot of good things about. Ate the hamburger steak w/ Mac salad. Gravy all ova. My boyfriend and I have been here a couple time, but tonight's the first time we came this year. We were going home from Wal-Mart, starving, so we decided to stop by. We've never had a problem with their food. It's always ono! A personal fave of mine is their boneless kalbi and you definitely have to get the sweet potato salad on the side! I'm so in love with it. The only reason why I'm rating it 4 stars is because we came here tonight and there's some kind of Filipino event going on. I was expecting the place to be a little quieter, like usual, but tonight it's really loud. And I was actually looking forward to the live music they usually have. Other than that, I definitely recommend this place.

Thought they didn't see us when we sat down. The sign says take a menu and have a seat. Maybe they should sit you so they remember you. 20 min wait to get our drinks and another 20 mins to take our order. Service super slow even though they had a lot of people working the floor. Waitress apologized for waiting. Another 30 min wait for our food. When the food came it wasn't even hot. Luke warm. I had the eggs Benedict it was ok. Not presented well. There were tourists that arrived way after us and they got served their food quicker than us, even leaving before us. One hour for breakfast.

The 4 of us were at the mall in Kahului and used Yelp to find some place to eat. We found Tante's across the street. We were seated quickly and were greeted by Fausto, our server. Let me start off by saying Fausto was great! Super friendly, great sense of humor and with excellent service. Give that man a raise!! The food was excellent. The mixed island plate and Katsu chicken were great. The servings are plentiful, the calamari appetizer was great and we were able to sample the sweet potato salad. It was killer! We shared a mocha mud pie and it blew Away "Hula Pie!" We will definitely be back!

  • Cass K.

Came here for breakfast. It was just ok. I had french toast, which in their style is made from Hawaiian sweet bread. At our table we also had a ham and cheese omelet. The quality of the food acceptable. Prices were very reasonable for Maui. Maybe we'd be more impressed with lunch / dinner.

One of the worst place I have eaten... We went there with intentions that it was a great place... Our family went there 4 months ago saying that the food was good but this afternoon- we had a different experience. My boyfriend had the pork adobo. He said it was ok, comparing it to another place we have eaten earlier that week. I had shrimp alfredo. Your probably thinking- why at a Filipino restaurant... When I saw the picture- it looked really good. When I received the dish, it had absolutely no taste! No taste in the noodles or the shrimp. Sadly, I was disappointed. Never again will I go there...

First time to try this place and was extremely happy with food and service. Good selection of food choice and price reasonable for Maui prices. I had the chichen cutlet and it was tasty and crispy. My friend had the kalbi and was also tasty. They are located in Maui seaside hotel and from past experience restaurants in hotels are overpriced and lousy, but not this one. Nice job tantes. Keep up the great job. I'll definitely be back. Aloha

a-ok, food amount is pretty generous. furikake chicken is good (i always get the sauce on the side). my bf loves their sweet potato mac-salad. prices are decent. parking is easy, the valet for the maui seaside hotel will show you where to park. the deco is kind of tacky, but not the worse. service, is usually good and waiter was friendly. overall, an ok place. probably the highlight of the hotel.

  • Iv C.

Had breakfast here since we were staying at the hotel that's on the same property. The overall experience was good but for your money you're better off going to IHOP down the street. We had normal breakfast plates and they were "ok" but didn't quite fill us up and we spent about $30 for both of us. The staff was friendly, attentive and checked on us often. Overall not bad but again, you're better off going somewhere else for breakfast since it wasn't anything great.

The wife and I went here for breakfast after our helicopter tour. It felt like slim pickings in the vicinity, so we were up for anything. I had the Kalua Pork Benedict, and my wife had a more traditional bacon and eggs type breakfast. Both were quite good and hit the spot. We had some minor issues with my poached eggs being overcooked, and her eggs being over easy instead off over medium. Nothing to raise a stink over.

Tante's was a convenient and easy choice for dinner as I was staying at the adjoining hotel for the night. The service was decent, everyone was friendly and the food was pretty good. The boneless ribs were quite delicious and the shrimp tempura was also very good however, the drinks were overpriced at $11 for a well Long Island iced tea and $8 for a well vodka with soda. All in all I really can not complain for the convenience of the diner.

Stopped by this place for lunch after a long hike. It's located in the front of a hotel/motel, but don't be deterred, the food was amazing. I had the kalbi plate with rice and sweet potato salad. I never had sweet potato salad, let alone with purple potatoes. The whole plate was delicious, and needless to say, I cleaned the plate. This was probably the best meal I had in Mauai. A good local spot. I wish I went back a few more times, but I will have to wait for my next trip.

Very good Filipino breakfast option. Longanisa and other filipino staple dishes available. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the island. Aaliyah have us great tips that we're useful throughout our whole vacation. It's off Lono if your gps sends you somewhere else. You'll see a yellow surfboard as their sign. It's tucked in a small hotel complex that had a great looking pool.

Tate's restaurant seems like a great local spot. The food we saw looked and smelled great, but unfortunately, it was all on other people's tables. We visited the restaurant on Christmas Eve before catching our late evening flight back to the mainland -- and Tante's was bustling -- though not overwhelmingly busy. After waiting 20 minutes (and after several reminders to the staff that we needed to order), no server came to our table. Food seemed to be taking a long time to arrive at the tables after ordering, too. Unfortunately, we had to leave the restaurant before ordering so that we could catch our flight. Other families experienced similarly long waiting times. Although the food may be good, the service was lackluster and the parking scarce. Budget a solid 2 hours if you want to eat here.

The food here is good. Everything is reasonably priced and I don't think I have found anything on the menu I didn't like. The wait staff is usually very helpful and friendly. I normally like this restaurant, but I am a little annoyed today as this is my second trip here to pick normally like this restaurant, but I am a little annoyed today as this is my second trip here in an attempt to pick up a gift certificate as a gift. My first attempt ended unsuccessfully since the manager would not be back for an hour and a half and she was the only person who could print it. She was kind enough to call me when she returned and said she would have it waiting this morning. I returned this morning to purchase the gift certificate and thought it would be a quick stop, however I was ignored by the three staff members as they filled their sugar dishes and tidied up the tables. I am a sucker for a clean restaurant but seriously, please acknowledge the customers who walk through the door. (The restaurant was empty at the time. )

They got our order wrong for my my sons pancakes (ordered banana and Mac nut and got a pineapple inside and out one) then when I ask them to fix it they just took off the one pineapple that was on the top (not inside) the. Put banana and whip cream. On top of that I got up charged for the banana and whip cream. He said oh the pancakes are both the same price than why did I get up charged when you really didn't even fix shit!! On Top of that my adobo fried rice had burned flavor through out the whole dish. I use to enjoy eating there. Where did all the locals go in that place anyway?

Excellent food for a quick lunch near the airport. Enjoyed the Panko crusted ahi tuna salad and the ribs. Great ethnic Phillipino food, although I needed explanations for the dishes. Very casual, looks like a dive, part of a hotel, but great food!

Gosh dang!!!! We came here again with our same waitress!!! Marietta. Dang she is awesome !!!! She gave us more blue sweet potatoes which are still the best thing I ever ate in Hawaii. More more more!!! Oh yeah ordered the ribs too lol. The ribs because I said how they used too much sauce they changed it to less sauce. I guess restaurants do pay attention to reviews! Then to top it off because they read our reviews they gave us a kona mudpie cake!!! Omg picture to follow. Soooooooo delicious. I'm worried that I won't fit on my flight home lol!!!

Food is good if you don't mind couple little ants wondering on the table :-) Service is friendly. Price is good too. My kids love their pancakes and loco moco. Portion is big. Ordered 3 plates enough to feed 4.

Great food for the price. Got the luau omelette and was AWESOME!!!!!! 2nd time going there and was pretty busy. 1st time i went, the line was out the door. Will come back again and try more on the menu.

WERE regulars. Always tipped generously too.The food is pretty good. Told us to wait in the lobby outside. Waited over an hour and fifteen minutes. Passed us over for a slightly larger group that were told to wait and had arrived an hour after us.

What can I say? That the food was great and that the service was awesome? Well it was. Fausto was our waiter. Great personality. I will definitely come back.

Can't say much about food, as the restaurant was closed during the hours listed as "open."

Came here with family of 10 on the way to the airport and was blown away!!! Service was great and friendly. 10 different breakfast orders of food with not one complaint aside from the cook forgetting 1 of my 3 eggs but quickly bringing the 3rd as soon as I mentioned it to the waitress. Not a fancy place but still nice and the food and service give this place a 5 star rating for me.

We stopped by here for lunch. The wife and I shared the large bento, which had teriyaki beef, fried chicken wings, spam, eggs, furikake rice, and a sweet potato salad. The portions were great for the price (in Maui) and we would definitely stop by again if in the area. Great and friendly customer service.

Good selection of foods, good portion size, great live music. Cozy restaurant. Air conditioner doesn't distribute air really well though, so some areas are ice cold, others, are warmer. But wife and i love going there! Mud pie, and the other pie (made from scratch by owners wife) are really good too!!!

We decided on this place because of the wide variety of menu items. Once we arrived we were seated and had our drink order taken. It took a long time for the waiter to come over but once he did, he took care of us the rest of the night. My complaints have to do with the food. I'm not really sure why they are so highly rated on Yelp but I wasn't a fan of the food. I kept thinking that this place would be on Kitchen Nightmares with Ramsey. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't that great either. I'm unimpressed and that's why it gets two stars. The other issue I had was when we left I found a security guard taking a piss next to my car :(

I ate here while staying a night at the Maui Seaside Hotel on my way home from the island. Although I always stay in my condo in Kihei (had to get a hotel for an extra night), I would definitely come back to Tante's to eat when in Kahului. I had breakfast and ordered the Hawaiian Pineapple Upside Down Pancakes. Paired with coconut syrup, they were to die for! Portions were big and sadly, I couldn't finish it all or take with me on the plane. The pancakes were big and fluffy with pineapple both inside the pancake and on top. My friend had banana pancakes with macadamia nuts on top and also really loved them. Servers here were very attentive and friendly. I overheard one of the servers talking with another guest and giving pointers on where to find craft fairs, the swap meet, farmers markets, etc. and I appreciated that she took the time to enhance the guest's island experience. We never had to worry about our coffee or water going empty for sure. They kept them topped off every few minutes. I like the decor in the restaurant as it has a cool, retro 50s-60s Hawaii vibe. Combined with the older adjacent hotel which also has the retro aspect, it makes for a cozy diner feeling. Looking forward to trying some of their local dishes and Filipino menu items on future visits to Maui.

Fantastic Hawaiian French Toast and Portuguese Sausage. Grab a menu and seat yourself in this coffee shop style restaurant featuring great service and a menu of local Hawaiian, Filipino and general fare. Don't expect anything more than cliche Hawaiian decor and a view of the parking lot, but do enjoy Hawaiian style comfort food. Coffee cup filled and topped off promptly and often. As a tourist spending the night at the adjacent Maui Seaside Hotel (a motel with a view, really) this was a perfect choice just steps away from my room. If you want pricey glamorous dining this is not the place. (Try Bistro Casanova across the street. ) The french toast is light and sweet. Made from sweet Hawaiian bread of course. And the Portuguese sausage is savory and just the right balance of moist meaty goodness. Portions are not excessive. Just right for whs t I was expecting from a local style diner ths t is friendly to tourists. Open at 7 am and close promptly at 9pm most nights.

I been to this place several times in the past and see this place has been steadily going down hill. Tonight the place was not very busy and were informed by the waiter that there is going to be an hour wait before we get our food. What? I'll spend my money elsewhere. Ridiculous!

  • D B.

The second star is only for the service. The food looks... and tastes, just like the pictures. Shiny and without any flavor. Good value, good location, but this is not a place that you actual want to order from. We two dishes, one on the waiter's recommendation (BBQ ribs). Even said it was probably going to be what he got for dinner. The sauce overpowered any flavor that might have been in the meat and it was just... Blah. Really shiny (see, too much MSG). The highlight of the meal food wise, was the rice.

Had the Alli breakfast and the Maui pancake breakfast. Pretty awesome. Fried rice that comes with is tasty along with the Kalua pork. Portions are large. Service is good. It's a local style diner with an old diner atmosphere. Had breakfast on our last day here and we were satisfied.

The service was the highlight of the meal. Although my water remained empty most of my visit. I ordered the Mini Bento in hopes of trying a few of the menu items on one plate. When I received my meal the egg that was on top of my rice and spam was scrambled.... What?! The rice itself was overlooked to the point where it resembled mashed potatoes. I was heartbroken having grown up on this type of food and having my meal fall far short of even mediocre. When one of the waitresses asked if I was finished (my plate was barely touched), I asked if the egg should have been fried. She claimed that she couldn't understand me and removed my plate. I was ok with this as the food had an odd taste as if it was prepared in a funky kitchen. I'm glad others enjoyed this place as I like the family run businesses. Unfortunately I'll have to try somewhere else next time :(

This restaurant is next to the lobby, still on the same property, as Maui Seaside Motel. Can walk there in less than a minute. Food prices are decent; food is average. For those coming back, they have a Mahalo card where you get points for over $10 entrée. The problem is at breakfast there is only one meal that is over $10. Did not neat lunch or dinner there.

Totally unexpected but great food. Since this is in a hotel I was skeptical. Not a lot of options on the way to the airport so we gave it a try. So glad we did. Chicken wings were some of the best I've had I had the ahi and my husband the shrimp fettuccine both were fantastic. Very good portions and great prices on top of being delicious. Will make it a regular maui stop in the future for sure!

Love the old school dinner style of restaurant, that's why we came to this island. Food was good and priced cheap. Server made us feel as if we were family and gave us some points of interest to check out and even offered to show us around on our next visit.

We needed a place to eat before heading to the airport. The first place we tried was closed so we saw this place down the road and tried it. What a mistake. We were a large party and the hostess had a look of confusion and fear while trying to put tables together. We all ordered easy and straight forward dishes. Out of 11 of us no one liked their food. Plus they confused sides and which sandwich was supposed to be what bread. The last straw was the sad fish and chips. Three little pieces of fish with nothing to dip it in. When we asked for some tartar sauce or something they brought out teriyaki?? None of our plates were empty when we left. And lastly I had the most disgusting mai tai there. It was basically syrup. Took only two drinks.

We were holed up in our hotel room at the Maui Seaside Hotel watching the Chargers football game and ordered a take out dinner. It was DELICIOUS! We ordered the pasta dish with vegetables in pesto and olive oil. It was excellent. We are frequent visitors to Molokai and are very excited about Tante's opening up a restaurant at The Hotel Molokai. We ate there in May at the grand opening of their new mgmt of the place and were very impressed with the service and quality of food as we experienced today, as well, here in Maui.

Stopped here on the way to the airport. My Kahlua pork sandwich was pretty skimpy on the pork, and the fish burger my friend ordered was pretty blah. The pork lau-lau was tasty and generous, but given the Filipino clientele, I'd recommend sticking with Adobo and like dishes. The sweet potato salad was indeed tasty.

Food was bland, and my steak was supposed to be medium rare and came out medium well. My beer was empty for 20 min and nobody ever offered me another or even came by... I will not be going back.

Our party of 9 went to this restaurant on the way to the airport. After a week in Hawaii eating at over-priced restaurants with so-so quality, we were anxious to try out this restaurant having seen positive reviews on Yelp. From the outside the restaurant looks like an ordinary hole in the wall. It is next to a run down motel. Upon entering the restaurant, my 16-year old nephew remarked that we had just gone through a time machine. The decor was 70s with ceiling fans and bamboo chairs. Even though the ambience is a little dated, the restaurant was clean and spacious. They have a decent selection of menu choices, with a strong influence of Filipino dishes. The curry mango chicken was delicious. The chicken was grilled and glazed with a sweet mango salsa. There was a subtle tint of curry that you could taste in the back of the palette but not strong such that it could overwhelm the dish. The oxtail soup was also good. Service was very friendly and hospitable. Our table ordered several Fausto Special (it is off the menu and is a breaded patty served with bacon, mushroom) but they had to make a new batch so not all dishes came out at the same time. They comped us with a couple plates of fries, and when the dishes came, they gave each dish 2 patties, instead of normal 1 patty. That is a nice way of satisfying customers by compensating for some deficiency in the dining experience. Tante's is an excellent choice for a local flavor and reasonably priced.

Super slow. Three people to take my take out order. Mid sentence when I am speaking and the waitress walks away. Who cares if the food is good. They were slow and rude!

We had breakfast a couple mornings in a row and were not disappointed. My Uncle had the fresh cornbeef and eggs, and said it was delicious! It came with ample potato wedges and toast. My mom had the veggie omelet which had hollandaise sauce on it. I really loved the "healthy platter" with a nice size papaya, a small cup of strawberry yogurt, a cup of oatmeal, a slice of whole wheat toast, and granola. Lots of food for one person! My husband had the country omelet and enjoyed it, too. The staff was pleasant and the service was swift. Prices were reasonable and the atmosphere was old-time Hawaiian style. Mahalo! We'll be back.

Really enjoyed this restaurant! It's located in the Maui Seaside Hotel, so it's like stepping back into Maui of the 1950's. Hot Hubster and I really enjoyed the evening's muscial duo performing. The service was good, the restaurant cute and clean, and the food was good. Started out with the pupu sampler and the calamari was just "ok" but the chicken wings and the won tons were really good. I had the Hawaiian plate - tons of food for $15 - and Hubster had the steak. The sweet potato salad was a welcome change and it was all tasty. We were too full for dessert. Definitely a place we'll take our kids. A little gem of a restaurant that I hope sticks around for a long time to come!

Stopped at Tantes on our first night on Maui. My bf and I shared an Island Plate dinner. The food was luke warm when it arrived to our table, so I'm guessing it was just sitting in warmers. Food was just ok. Sweet potato salad that received so many rave reviews would only rate as a 3/5 stars. On a different note, the service was FANTASTIC, but unfortunately cannot make up for mediocre food.

  • Mary Ann D.

The service was good, the food was delicious and it was nice that we could just sit and talk without feeling rushed out of the restaurant. We were even saying that this was a good place to come to for more family dinners. There was 17 of us and they accommodated us on one long table so we all could relax, talk and laugh together.

NOT IMPRESSED! If you like or Enjoy Denny's this is the place for you. If you are looking for authentic home style cooking like the menu suggests there is a lot to be desired. The homestyle potatoes are a glorified fried french fry. The eggs, while are just eggs were covered in grease and impossible to eat. The steak that my husband had was grizzly, fatty, over cooked and terrible. We were both unable to eat our breakfast after the first few bites. AVOID if you want real food!

LBH...We tried this place once. We weren't impressed by the decor or the food much the taste was basic. More like home cooked meals. The restroom was very clean. Service was ok. Server didn't know the menu well. So she called the cook to explain.

Excellent service without fail. Fast, efficient, extremely friendly. The breakfast is delicious yet basic. The dinners are well made, tasty and reasonably priced. Nothing exquisite but definitely good! We will continue to stay at the hotel and enjoy Tante's for every visit. I will recommend to my friends also.

Excellent food and service!! I went here with my whole family of 6 and we loved it. Real homestyle cooking and good portions, good portions. Lilikoi Ribs fell off the bone! Servers were very attentive and caring. A definite family place, good for all ages!

Visiting Maui for the weekend and stayed at Maui Beachside. Relatives immediately recommended Tantes for some good Filipino and local grinds. First night I had the shrimp sari sari WINNER! Went back for breakfast next day and had sweetbread French toast WINNER! But what really pushed me to write this review was the attentive and courteous staff. Diana, Jason, and Marrieta were great!!! Definitely coming again.

Located in the Maui Seaside Hotel. I really wish this place was on Oahu because it is now my favorite place to go for a home cooked local or Filipino meal. The employees are very friendly and since they have only been open for a few days they are very accommodating and cater to any questions you have about your meal. Their tripe stew was the most tender and thick tripe I've ever had. Their create your own loco moco plate is a winner for any local. Instead of the usual mac salad they have Sweet Potato Salad, which goes great with any of their stews. Breakfast was just as good as dinner. I usually don't spend a lot of time checking out hotel restaurants, but now I regret not having eaten here sooner. The cook never seems to leave because they are short staffed but still able to provide excellent service.

I was staying next door, overall the food isn't amazing, but I think it's one of those things "what you see is what you get". We were taken to a table that was still dirty and needed to be wiped down. I don't really have standards so this did not bug me. Would I go back? Probably not, it was late and we needed a place to eat .

Tante's was our last meal in Maui before coming home, and by far it was the worst meal ever! We had a large party (8 adults, 2 kids), so we called ahead to make reservations. When we got there, we were seated immediately, but once we placed our orders, it took about an hour to get served. Yes they were busy , but an hour wait is unacceptable. Half of us were ready to just walk out. Once the food finally came, two of the plates were wrong and we were told that in order to fix it, it would take a "while" to get the correct order so we just let it slide since we had waited for our food so long. The food itself is mediocre and I think it's disappointing for locals to have this restaurant so close by to the airport and have tourists claim this as authentic Hawaiian food. The only plus that this restaurant has is that it is close to the airport, which is why we chose it. Lastly, a couple of us were charged tip twice. Since we had a large party, the tip percentage was included, but noticed later that they had added it to the bill twice. We chose this place because of the "good" reviews on yelp, but I would never go back here and waste my time, money and appetite.

I came here for dinner. I ordered the seafood luau. Contrary to the menu, there was no shrimp, and very few scallops, if any. And it was drowned in sauce. The only good thing on the plate was the baked potato. Although the service was good, I definitely will not come back.

This place is amazing! Delicious food with great variety, relaxed family atmosphere, quick friendly service, in town, awesome live music, all at incredible prices! I got their oysters Rockefeller, salad with wasabi dressing, and shrimp linguine. All absolutely delicious. This is our new family hotspot. And if you get a baked potato in your meal, they give you your own jars to put as much sour cream, green onion, and fresh BACON bits as you want. Come on people. BACON. Anyways, all around great experience. Will definitely be back many times!

Great ambiance (quiet, very relaxing), tasty food, and reasonable prices. I devoured my salmon dish, and the Portuguese bean soup I had beforehand was absolutely delicious. My fiance loved her Hawaiian Luau plate (a sampling of 3 different meats). Would definitely go again.

If you're looking for a place that has a diverse menu where your kids can have a burger and fries, your wife can have her shrimp alfredo, your other kids want a loco-moco, some chicken katsu, but you want a steak and lobster...well you've got to try Tante's Island Cuisine! They've got it all from Appetizers to Dessert. Great place for big parties and company meetings but also a great place for a date night. Great ambiance, friendly staff, and the food is excellent! They have an amazing sweet potato salad that you can't get anywhere else on Maui. Great food with a great price. I was also happy to hear that almost all their food is found here locally on Maui or in Hawaii. You can dine in or take out. I had several items on the menu already as I've been to the restaurant several times. The Kona Mud Pie and Halo Halo dessert are must haves after you've had breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They have everything from Hawaiian, Filipino, Local Favorites, American, Seafood, and even Steak and Lobster. Stop on it tell them you heard about them through Yelp. :) If you drop in on the weekends you'll be delighted to find live music. Hope you enjoy your experience as much as we did!! Aloha

The menu selection is outstanding. The food our group chose, rib eye steak (x2), furikake crusted salmon, oxtail soup (x2), island mixed plate, seafood luau, and ultimate seafood platter were all priced $$-$$$. We enjoyed the food, but not the LOUD live karaoke singer/music -- nerve wrecking to say the least. When we asked the servers to ask to have the volume turned down, they responded that they had no control over that. We go out to dine for the food and conversation, not ear busting entertainment. My bet is that this place would do better with subdued piped in music.

Love it. We tried the fish sandwich and the fresh fish encrusted with macadamia nuts salad. We are going to go back and sample the Filipino part of the menu.

  • Hana M.

nothing special...the island plate was edible, the calamari was under seasoned and not crispy (it was served with a super acidic vinegar sauce that was a total miss as well) and the mud pie was ice cream with a graham cracker crust. plenty of local places around...you're not missing out if you skip this one.

  • Jay S.

went here for a snack and some dessert. the mud pie was awesome. the chower, AVOID IT. they put parmesan cheese in it and it taste terrible. i will be going to kona in a few weeks and saw they have one there too, but it's closed now. i wonder why....
