Guri guri huh? Sounds pretty cute. For a hot sunny day, that's what I needed. Around $2 something I got a mini cup size guri guri. It tasted like the Samurai ice cakes except it's more creamy and soft. I think only one choice flavors. Not bad for a dessert. I tried it! Checked!
I saw this store in my guidebook so I yelped and saw all these great reviews and just had to go. They only have two flavors: strawberry and pineapple. Two small scoops for $1.20 cash only. It is kind of between sherbet and ice cream. The strawberry tasted very artificial. The pineapple tasted more like mango to me. They are refreshing and very reasonably priced. I also like their smallness because I can actually finish my ice cream. I would go back for next time.
Whenever you visit Maui, this is probably one of the must stops when going there. Basically the Tasaka Guri Guri Shop is known for their infamous Guri Guri, which typically equivalent to Samurai's (for you 'Aiea/Central/Leeward peeps out there). They have three sizes, small, medium, and large all ranging from two to five scoops with a choice of just two flavors either strawberry or mango or you could get both. The guri guri is da bomb though and it is definitely worth the trip and effort to go there and maybe stand in line depending on what time and day you go to. My recent trip to Maui, my crew and I went there two times and it wasn't so bad. Guri guri is most definitely da bomb though on a hot and sunny Maui day. It is conveniently located in a shopping plaza in Maui which I don't know but I should know so shame on me for not knowing being that I am an Elite Yelper hahahaha. Anyways, The guri guri shop is not only known for the guri guri, they also have local kine snacks too like candies and stuff. However, going back to the guri guri, you can actually take the guri guri on the plane to go back home but you have to get it like one to two hours right before you fly. You can get like a bucket or pints of the guri guri so that is pretty cool that they give you that option. Anyways, we liked the guri guri so much that we made our own theme song to it guri guri.... guri guri!

Purchased some supplements as recommended by the owner. I told her I only wanted VEGAN products. Before purchasing, I asked about the return policy. Came to return them 3 hours later (unopened and with the receipt) because I discovered the supposedly vegan supplement (house brand) had gelatin in it. Gelatin is made from horse hooves, cow hooves, or pig hooves. The owner first tired to convince me that gelatin comes from vegetables (it doesn't) and then insisted, "it's only a little bit." She screamed at me for returning the product. Later I asked the cashier if she had screamed at other folks who came in to return a product. Yes, she had.
If you're arriving in Maui midday then do yourself a favor and stop here for lunch. That's exactly what we did. We had the trio salad and they were all so delicious. And they had some smoothie for us to taste. And then we got into trouble at the "dessert" counter. We left that day with several of the marzipan truffles and lillikoi (passion fruit) cups. Later we had the raw veggie sandwich and wow was that good! Delish! And at another visit we had the "bark". I can't remember what it was called but it was an amazing chocolate delight. YUMMY! At another visit we also had the hot plate. I can't remember what was on it but I do remember having the pesto spaghetti squash and that was really amazingly tasty! If you love good wholesome food then this is the place for you. Sure it's a little more expensive than other places but to me quality trumps price and their food is quality food.
Amazing organic sandwiches! Perfect on the way to Hana! Rad little market with everything you could imagine!

Nice small hole in the wall. Very friendly.
If you're a fan of 'hole in the wall' type restaurants, you know, the ones that from the outside look like your unsure there's an actual eatery inside? This is your place buddy! Inside I found 3 very sweet & welcoming Grandmother types running the place, which is quite small but cozy, we had seen reviews on Yelp praising Da Moco Loco, think of it as a Loco Moco on steroids:) It certainly didn't disappoint as we gobbled up every bit of what had to be 3 pounds of bacon, spam, hamburger patty, eggs , rice and gravy , yes we had to take a nap shortly after so our bodies could work on what just took place. This place is awesome!
My sister and I split the Da Loco Moco. Its big enough to share and left us full. It satisfy our hunger but didn't blow us away. I thought the hamburger patty tasted a bit off. I wish the Spam was cooked a little more. Overall, a greasy meal to start the morning off. You can opt for white or fried rice. Fried rice is the way to go. We noticed many of the patrons that came in went straight to the fridge for the musubis. I didn't try but a friend in our group got a few for the road. I love the family business aspect of Oyako Tei and that I will gladly support over any breakfast chain. overall, a decent meal for fair price. Pretty close to the airport, as our group just flew in, this was a great find.

Brigit & Bernard’s Garden Cafe

335 Hoohana St
Kahului, 96732
Reviews:
Bridget and Bernard's is a hidden secret in Maui. It's located in the light industrial area of Kahului at the curve in the road. Bernard is a master chef from Switzerland who settled on Maui over 20 years ago after touring the globe as a chef. You can dine inside (5 tables) or in his garden (more than 5 tables.) Bottom line: Best rack of lamb. I had to force my bro in law from Hono to visit us on Maui to "try" Bernard's lamb. Understand that he is the type of guy who is super hypercritical about others' cooking as he figures he can make it better (true 99% of the time). The rack is served with potatoes au gratin and sautéed vegies; all home made of course. When bro took his first bite of the lamb, he closed his eyes in disbelief because it was so delicious. No more "Honolulu is the best" sarcasm anymore! On a week night (open Tues-Sat for dinner and Mon-Fri for lunch), my wife and I stop by for the Weinersnitzel, tomato/blue cheese salad and roetse(sp) potato pancake. We ordered mushroom gravy on the side as this older European couple sitting next to us did, so we had to copy them; we didn't regret it. The wine selection is small, but Bernard has a wide variety of German beer offered in short or tall (that's the only way to go) glasses. Whenever my friends from Sweden and Denmark come to visit, they want to "soko ga shiritai." Although they've lived in Hono for over 15 years, they haven't found German type food like this on Oahu. So use your GPS and find this place. It's homey and the people are very nice. Ask to meet Bernard; he's a kick!
My sister and I decided to eat here since we just got back home from living in europe for a year..(i was is Neulengbach, Austria and she still lives in Bamberg, germany). First of all they have a minimum of $6.50 to sit there...but everything is ridiculously overpriced!!! I ordered the schnitzel..which was 1.gross 2.had hair in it 3. did not come with cranberry sauce(which all traditional wiener schnitzels do)) 4.cost $18!!!!!! After we found the hair they did remove the item form our bill but we were all grossed out and didn't wanna eat anymore. As we were leaving the lady said "i'm sorry about the hair i tell the cooks all the time about it" so obviously this happens often. So in conclusion DON'T EAT HERE!!
We visited Bridget and Bernards on New Year's Eve and what a delightful surprise. This little gem had great home-cooked German food. Jager schnitzel was so tender and the service was quick and friendly. All three of us had excellent German meals and for Maui it is very reasonable. This place is off the beaten path but worth taking the time to find.

We came across this German beer garden from yelp tonight and enjoyed a delicious meal. The place is small and casual but had a relaxed atmosphere. The food has great quality and a German authentic taste. I would highly recommend giving this place a try!
Aloha! This is a first rate outfit; great menu at affordable prices and a superb, quaint setting! We enjoyed the inside seating area that was reminiscent of small cafe's in Germany, with many German beers on tap. The service was great and there was a large outside seating area, or beer garden. Best German, Swiss menu on Maui. We shall return soon!
Amazing food and atmosphere!!! This is easily my favorite restaurant on Maui. It is owned an operated by an amazing family. Their Octoberfest is the best. Pretty much anything you order will be good. They also have a great selection of German beers on tap.

Krispy Kreme

This is a nice Krispy Kreme, and it's the only one in Hawaii (go Maui! Yay more carbs!). They have standard donuts people love, but, after being on the mainland for so long, they also have some different donuts they don't have at the mainland Krispy Kremes, like a maple bar! What I would've done for a maple bar when I was exiled to the Midwest for 8 years... I've also seen things like pineapple fritters. The service is good and friendly. Just ask for your free donut when you're there with the hot light on if they don't offer it to you. The donuts I bought were greatly appreciated at work.
We love that it's located near the airport. I knocked off a star because we had to ask for our free donut even though the Hot sign was on. And we were told that they normally only give a half for the hot sign. Krispy Kreme on Maui! How great is that.
This is currently the only Krispy Kreme in Hawaii. It's a great, easy place to stop on the way to the airport to pick up omiyage for friends and family on the neighbor islands. They have a drive thru which makes it even easier to make that quick stop. If you stop in when their hot donuts sign is on, you can get a free donut fresh off the conveyer belt. They have a wide variety of donuts and have seasonal flavors also. I usually just get the original glazed which is available for $16.00 for 2 dozen.

Maui Coffee Roasters

Reviews:
I have mixed feelings about this place. Hipsterish interiors, service and the coffee was all so good! My husband and I ordered Egg Benedict. I would've been happier if they hadn't made me fish my eggs out of the-pool-of-Hollandaise . The Salmon was saltier than usual. I ate it all. But wasn't too happy.
I had just arrived on Maui and this was the first coffee shop I came to that wasn't a Starbucks. Nothing against Starbucks, but I was on a new island and I wanted to try out the local culture. It was a 4 star joint on Yelp, so I gave it a shot. The first thing I noticed about Maui Coffee Roaster was the atmosphere. It had a very college-y/"chill"/down to earth vibe, as local coffee shops are wont to do, and it seemed like the sort of place I could stay at for hours doing homework or chatting. It was early on a Saturday when I got there so it was practically empty. I ordered a coffee and a blueberry bagel+cream cheese. For coffee, they give you a large mug and a saucer, and you can fill it up yourself. I'm no coffee conneissuer, but it was good coffee. The bagel was pretty meh as far as bagels go, but I was hungry so I didn't mind much. That was my experience, and this was my review.
Wow! This place is great. We have stopped at a couple different coffee places on the island and this was by far the best. The ladies were so helpful with our questions about the menu. We tried their brew that came from a tap. So rich in flavor. No need for syrups or anything. We ended up trying an iced Thai coffee. Such a great choice! Definitely coming back!

Pearl’s Korean BBQ

275 W Kaahumanu Ave

Reviews:
We were looking for local plate lunch options near the airport and ran across Pearl's Korean BBQ. As soon as we saw "meat chun" as a menu option we were in. SO happy we took the 10 minute out of the way detour to the Queen Ka'ahumanu mall on our way to Kaanapali. The servings are HUGE and the meat chun did not disappoint! Along with the main course you get two scoops of sticky rice and 4 side dish options including mac salad, jap chae and kim chi. So happy this restaurant is not near our hotel or I would gain 20 lbs before the week is over! The restaurant is in the food court of the mall and the service is typical of mall food court service but if you're craving a little Island Korean...this is a great place to go!
OMG I love this place! It sort of went downhill after Yummy's pulled out but they really have redeemed themselves. Ask anyone, it's the side dishes that make people keep come back for more. ATMOSPHERE: Located in the food court of Queen Kaahumanu Center. Open-air indoor & outdoor seating. FOOD: BBQ Chicken - Hit or miss. While the flavor is good, the chicken usually is just way too dry and over-cooked. Shoyu Chicken - Taste was there but the chicken (like their BBQ style) is over done. Chicken thighs were dry and on the firm side. Hamburger Steak/Loco Moco - Meat is very tough & rubbery. Gravy is good, but the onions are raw. Kalbi Ribs - Flavor is good but the meat is thin, mostly fat and over-cooked. Wow this dish is pricey too. BBQ Pork - The only dish I get nowadays. Cut paper thin like teriyaki meat, but very moist & tender. My fave! Chicken Katsu - Crispy and tender, not oily. Get it plain, with a dark brown gravy or curry smothered on top. SERVICE: Fast & friendly. Wait times can be a bit long for certain dishes like the hamburger steak. TIP: You can make a half combo out of any meats/chicken they serve, even though it's not listed on the menu. OVERALL: Prices have gone way up at this place, but the portions are huge & flavorful so it's worth it. They have awesome side selections, which is what keeps me coming back for more.
This place is really good. it's also in the mall food court so set your expectations accordingly. My hubby had the bi-bim-bap It was more delicious that the gal-bi which was yummy but a tiny tad on they fatty side. The kimchi was really good. Great prices esp for maui! Would definitely recommend!

All I care about is if they have TARO as a flavor! My husband said they do when they went previous. So on a weekend we went to cool down since it's been hot here and when we got there it was busy with people already having some froyo! As we walked in it was bright and clean yes to that! I went straight to the line that was forming and got me my taro flavor yumm for that! I also got dole pineapple mine you I don't really like sour but this was just right I added lihingmui candy because that's what u do :) anyhoo they have a lot of choices for topping from nuts, cereal, candy, and sauces! I took advantage of the waihee school card discount that I bought from my friend it's but one get one half off! Yay to that :) can't go wrong!
