I love you Alakea Starbucks. I hate Bishop St and ever since I discovered you I've been going to you for about four years now, happy anniversary love :) I usually come here when I'm swamped with school work and I have to basically barricade myself in Starbucks. I stay here from 8AM to 3PM sometimes, just working or browsing around on the internets. Unlike Bishop St. you actually SHAKE your shaken iced teas. All the baristas are so friendly (well the old ones anyway) and they always make my drink (whether is coffee or tea) so delicious, EVERY TIME. This Starbucks is very clean and the baristas always offer samples. The only downside to this Starbucks is that there's no public restroom :( I have to run to my school's bathroom and run all the way back to Alakea. But it's worth it.

I love this Starbucks! It's conveniently located near my office in downtown. I'm not a regular nor a gold card holder but my two coworkers are and every time we come in they make my coworker's "regular orders" and ask me kindly what I'd like to order. They're friendly & fast! The line nor the wait is ever too long. Oh & the cake pops are delicious!

I was a regular at the Bishop St Starbucks, but since I moved offices, this locations is more convenient. Unfortunately, they just aren't as good as the other location and I find myself going out of my way when I need my morning caffeine fix. My main complaint is that they repeatedly get my order wrong even if they've asked me to repeat it several times. And its not like its a complicated order. The lovely batista always fixes it for me, but it's a problem that I never had at the Bishop location. So if you are looking for the best morning crew, go to Bishop (there's a reason their line is often out the door but all those people are willing to wait). Otherwise, no complaints. Clean store, good food selection. Standard smaller Starbucks.

First time at this location... slim pickins' on food options in the case (my fault for coming after 3pm). Got my mini me the last fruit cup and an Evolution cold pressed Sweet Greens and Lemon juice for me - yum! Service: Quick and pleasant Interior: Clean and cool Did not order any coffee this time... so, no rating on that. Overall, standard Starbucks experience.

Out of all the Starbucks in the downtown area, I probably go this one the most. Sometimes there's a long line and sometimes I get lucky and there is no line. Just depends on the time you get here. One great thing about this location is that the lines move quickly and the employees here are great. There are a ton of regulars who come in to this location and the staff is amazingly good and remembering everyone's name and drink order.

I went 2 times the first time I got a coconut milk green tea frap and it tasted horrible. It tasted like they didn't mix it well. When I went the second time I got the same thing and it tasted way better but I also got a sandwich. However they didn't charge me for the sandwich I had to REMIND THEM TO CHARGE ME because the two workers were just chatting away. Come on Starbucks train your employees!

Wow! I had a work meeting to go to at 8 am. I was about 45 minutes early. What better way to delay than with a cup of joe? So I stood in line which was out the door! I didn't think anything of it because I had tons of time to kill! Then I waited... Not even 5 minutes went by and it was my turn! Holy smokes these morning baristas are fast. At Kahala Mall Starbucks, this would have at least been a good 15 minute wait without any complicated orders. I give you props Downtown Starbucks! You all are so cheery and efficient :). I can't wait to come back again! #01/31

I feel like everytime I come here, I need to tell you guys how great the employees are! Theyre all so happy-go-jolly and are like one big family! Eveyday during the lunch hour, the "regulars" come in, and I swear, the employees know their name and already have their drink being made! They will make you feel so comfortable. I just got me a venti green tea classic raspberry, and a maple scone, and my total came out to $2.88! hmmm, scones are already 2.75 so my drink was 13 cents? lol. maybe there was a special? But anyway, I toally woke up on the wrong side of the bed today, (literally, my bf took up most of the bed -___-) and I came in to get a coffee but then again, I dont wanna be downing later from the caffeine, SO... i got me something to refresh myself. I'm the grouchy, office worker, so this morning was a bad day, YET, they find a way to bring me out of the dumps! So cheerful and always attend to their customers! BEST STARBUCKS HERE!!

You may have to wait in a line, depending on what time you show up.. but the baristas are always on the move to help you out. They are extremely friendly and no matter how busy they are, they will make sure your order is right!

Happy to say this was the week for scoring freebies! Today, Starbucks was handing out free tall-size cups of their new Starbucks Refresher beverages, yum. Had a choice of the hibiscus berry with real blackberries or cool lime with, yes you got it, real lime slices. The icy beverage is made with green coffee extract -- the unroasted arabica bean -- and real fruit and ice. So you get all the caffeine oomph without the coffee flavor. And, it's low in calories. I'm sold! Though there are 3 Starbucks locations within walking distance of my office, the Alakea Street location is the closest by 30 whole seconds and one crosswalk. Perfect when I'm too lazy to cross two of the busiest intersections in downtown!

This store wins my award for friendliest staff. I'm a regular here and most them already know my name and my drink. Once in awhile I'll switch my drink and it confuses them. LOL! They are busy in the mornings but they manage to get the drinks out really fast. The afternoons are usually quiet and the only time you'll encounter a long line is if they have the "afternoon treat receipt" promotion. If the promo is happening, refrain from going at 2pm. Wait till 3pm, there won't be a line. This location has more seating than the one over at Bishop & King Street. It's quiet and it's good for small group meetings. Sometimes you might see strange people but they're harmless. There was one exception though, this one guy asked if I wanted newspaper. I'm not sure what that was all about but i just shook my head and he went away.

One of my top 3 fave Starbucks in the state, no really I'm not lieing!! They know what I want when I walk, even though I change it up once in awhile. Always friendly, always personable, and most importantly ALWAYS gets my Venti Soy Java Chip Frappucino with a banana blended in made perfectly!

My internet is down for the time being, so I came to this Starbucks since it is in walking distance from my house and I needed to get some work done. I ordered a drink and sat myself in for a couple hours. Not only were there seats available but there were outlets! I can't tell you how many times I have gone to a coffee shop and then have to leave because my computer died. Yes I am that annoying person who is pirating their internet, but hey at least I am a paying customer! Thanks for understanding Starbucks!

There can be a long line at rush hour times but it always moves fast. They have a good system there. Corona is a standout for friendly and accurate service!

Location is good. Baristas are friendly. Service is fast. SO, why the 3 star rating? Cleanness is lacking. The tables were all dirty and the condiment bar had milk spilled all over it. It was not busy at all, so why the mess? Step up the bussing of the tables. That's it. Easy fix.

I've had better starbucks service at other locations. Ordered a Raspberry White Mocha Cappuccino. My usual go-to coffee drink. Sounds sweet. Supposed to be sweet. Turned out tasting like black coffee. They really skimped on the syrup even though I'm already paying extra for it. STORY: the lady in front of me ordered something along the lines of grande drink in a venti cup. The cashier wrote it down and was confused and when she was giving the order to the barista, she was confused too. Instead of clarifying what the customer wanted...they just assumed. What kinda customer service is that?!!! Good: lines move fast. Bad: not very friendly, don't take the extra step to make sure that you step away satisfied

Good staff.. lot of downtown people regulars ... should have a community table.. Downtown Honolulu is a dump so this is bright spot.. everyone from the courthouse or people going to court visit to get jacked up before having to go to courthouse or work in office buildings in Honolulu.. only Starbucks in downtown..

    (4)
  • Sherrie D.

Always friendly staff, when I got my birthday drink they were so gracious and said happy birthday to me. I really like their attention to detail and they are fast. That helps a lot cuz this is downtown and everyone needs to get their order and leave for work in the morning. Despite how long the line is the staff is able to handle it.

52 stars for Ray, 3 stars for the rest so that makes it overall 4 stars... They open early (yay!) and Ray makes the best drinks I've ever had. He is a morning person so if you want to experience absolute Starbucks heaven, you have to come before noon usually. He said sometimes he stays till 2 but don't miss out. I've had some bad chai lattes when Ray's not around. But I've also had some meh ones too. So even if Ray is not around, it's not always a trainwreck...there are a few to avoid but you may have to do your own taste test and decide.

*Yikes! Didn't keep up with my 31 Yelp Review Challenge! x-P I will write reviews when I'm able to, however! Anyways, I take back my word for the other SB in the Downtown area. This location is my absolute favorite! Not only are the baristas loud and energetic, but this location is bustling with the whole Downtown gang. The norm is for lines to linger out the front door and at the same time, there are plenty of tables to sit at inside for studying or talking, etc. No restroom at this location, though. I feel like the baristas at this location truly care about getting your order right and giving you more for your money too! I usually order my drinks one shot down from what they usually give and was charged for the number of shots that I ordered, which is one size down from what I get. Lol, hope it made sense. A definite 5 stars for this location! :-)

I spend $1000s here but after having a lame rice crispy bar with no apology or replacement. I just couldn't believe after spending to $15.00 on average for every visit they could replace the crispy treat. Thanks but no thanks SB. I will never go back to this establishment...ever or even another SB for that matter. .50 cents = $1500+ not in my book!

This Starbucks in the heart of the downtown Honolulu district. I pass by here on my way to work in Kalihi. The staff is always ready to serve the coffee drinking community. The staff is super friendly, although with the hustle and bustle of the morning rush, it can be hard to smile in between taking orders and filing them. I like this location because it is just off the public bus line and I can hop in and get my coffee without much trouble. I normally get a venti pike and a brownie to start my mornings. The brownie is usually a less than stellar brownie cake, but it helps fuel my day for the better.

Decent store. It is the most convenient store to my work place. I like coming here because the line is not long compared to the other Starbucks in the area. Especially during lunch. Everyone who comes here knows what they want so the line moves fast. The barista also works fast and there are many of them. Other than that there is nothing much to say.

This is one of my least favorite Starbucks for many reasons. There is no bathroom and the closest one is several blocks away at Walmart. Once inside Walmart, you have to go upstairs. Also, recently, their bathroom has been closed. On more than one occasion, these Starbucks employees have swept around me. I always ask them not to because I'm allergic to dust. Today one of their employees named Kawehi was particularly belligerent. As she was approaching me with her broom and dust pan, I asked her not to dust around me because I am allergic to dust. She laughed and kept on doing it. I wasn't joking and it was quite obvious. I spoke loudly and clearly too, so there is no way she didn't hear or understand me. When Kawehi was finished, my nose ran and my skin itched. The tables at this location are disgustingly dirty. I used an alcohol swab to clean my table and black filth came off it. After this review, I am going to post a pic of one of the alcohol wipes that I used to clean a small strip of my table. It is utterly disgusting and many restaurants are not so gross. The lighting is poor in this location, making it difficult to see. There is almost always a long line of people here. Apparently the people who work in nearby offices downtown come here and return to their offices. Before Kawehi swept, she did a poor job cleaning the tables. She used a rag to partially clean them and spent no more than 2-3 seconds on each one. She also did not clean the chairs. Since people touch the chairs too, I suggested to her that she clean them as well and she didn't. I only visited this Starbucks today because it was on my way to Costco. Otherwise, there are several other Starbucks locations and cafes that I would rather go to. Next time I'm in the area, I will visit the one that's on Bishop about two blocks away from here. Those people are nice.

Three days a week I am in the downtown area for my internship and I always stop by this Starbucks location and for the past 3 months since I've been coming here, I've never had a bad experience, no matter how busy it was. Being that they are located downtown, I always expect a long line since everyone that works in area enjoys their coffee to help start the day. I've never seen the line go out the door though and the workers move so fast that if I'm in line by the door, before I can open my phone to check my email, I'm already by the food display case. The workers there are so wonderful! For a team that has to wake up before the sun even rises, has to deal with swarms of non-morning people who want their coffee, they are so cheerful and friendly that you have to wonder what they take before they start their day (wink wink). I've had experiences at other Starbucks locations where workers are just so grumpy and make it known that they don't like their job..dude! cmon... just because you are having a bad morning, don't take it out on me... But not the Alakea location! Never will you see a grumpy barista. NEVER! They even call out your order before you even have a chance to tell them. If you come often enough they'll greet you by name and ask you if you're having your usual this morning. Dealing with hundreds of people a day, it's amazing that they can remember that. Not to mention, this is so far one of the only locations that I've come across where they've been consistent in making a delicious White Chocolate Mocha for me. That is a rare thing because the other locations are really hit or miss for my white mocha. The location is decently sized with a decent amount of tables. I don't eat my breakfast there but rather walk to my office but there's usually one or two people leaving at a time when you're looking for a place to sit.

I work in the ASB tower so I have my pick of Starbucks. This is my least favorite. I have had two occasions where the staff was on the verge of rude. The first time, I ordered an iced coffee, like I had at another location. She served it to me and when I asked about the lack of milk, she looked at me and said, "You didn't ask for it". When advised her that I had gotten it previously, I didn't need to. She said, " yeah, sorry, you didn't ask for it". She didn't offer to make it the way I wanted too, which I thought was one of the guarantees the corporate Goliath offered. The second incident, I ordered a sandwich with my coffee. However, I don't eat meat and haven't in 18 years. When I asked for the meat to be removed prior to cooking my sandwich, the employee responded, "What is this, Subway?". I'm paying for something, it's not for you to judge how I order it, but you do have a responsibility to get me what I ordered. If you have issue with doing the things you need to do, go somewhere else. As a paying customer, being treated this way is unacceptable. I've been to this Starbucks only twice and I won't go again. As well, both times, the employees seem to spend more time chatting with each other than paying attention to the customers. I know they won't miss me and probably don't care that I won't be back. I'm okay with that.

There are three Starbucks locations in Downtown Honolulu, but I think that the Starbucks on Alakea Street is the best one. I visit this Starbucks practically every work weekday morning. The baristas are all so friendly and remember my regular daily order as soon as they see me. Maybe it's my Woody the Woodpecker travel mug that they remember more than me...LOL! The service here is so fast and friendly. No one gives you attitude (unlike some baristas at other Starbucks locations), which is totally appreciated in the morning before I have an opportunity to take in my vital life sustaining cup of joe! This location is always clean, including the counter area with the cream, sugar, napkins, and straws. Also, this location recently underwent a renovation to sport new murals, tables, and chairs. They reorganized the space a little too so that there is a little more room. I am so spoiled by the fast, efficient, and friendly service here that I get so annoyed at other Starbucks locations when the service there is not as fast, efficient, or friendly as the Alakea Street location.

They are always friendly here, they learn your name fairly quickly if you have consistency. Their drinks are always perfect for me as well as suggestions of new drinks. They understand the urgency of most folks in downtown of need my coffee and quickly, but if you want to chat with them they are more than happy to get to know you!

I've gone to a couple starbucks in downtown and I have to say this is my favorite one! It's the closest to my workplace and the staff is very friendly and full of energy. They know how to whip out drinks for people in a hurry (isn't everyone in downtown?) and it never has that muddy taste that coffee can have if not brewed right. I come here just about every day and I always get the same excellent customer service. They have all the extras you can stir into your coffee (whole, nonfat, half and half) as well as powders (cinnamon, nutmeg, chocolate, vanilla) and the sugars and sub sugars& something I rarely see (fully stocked) at most sbux. Don't get discouraged about the line that can for, you get your drink fairly quickly!

This is the only Starbucks on the island that moves extremely fast and efficient. I'm giving this place a solid 5 because I've never seen a line so long and business ppl who usually get their morning coffee are in and out within a blink of an eye. Like I'm so serious. The workers here are on it and very friendly. Ordered a sugar free vanilla ice coffee with a shot of classic, soy milk and caramel walls and I got my drink within 2 mins from when I placed my ordered given the fact they were extremely busy with all the business ppl getting their coffees before heading to work. Overall I'm very impressed with this location and give them my highest praise

It's a Starbuck's. Expensive coffee, not enough tables, not enough electrical outlets for the laptops. But the coffee is good.

Out of all the Starbucks in Hawaii this is the most memorable one for me because the staff is great at moving the lines and so personable. Corona is her name and she needs a raise, everyone who works in downtown remembers her name and she knows all of them at a quick glance of an eye. I feel special so i predominately make my way to this Starbucks Lol. Everyone else is also great team working together. Loveit and recommend it highly to all coffee lovers in Honolulu area.

Just an update. Today I visited Starbucks Alakea for the first time in a while. It was busy as usual. I waited around 7 minutes for my drink, not realizing it hadn't been made. One of the baristas was so kind as to notice me waiting BEFORE I even realized it had been a while, asked what drink I had, apologized for the wait, gave me a voucher for a free drink & I was out the door with my latte in hand within 2 minutes. As always, great service by these individuals!

Welcome to the movers-and-shakers Starbucks of downtown Honolulu. It's the closest coffee shop to the state Capitol and city hall and you'll often see lawmakers, lobbyists, reporters and other people shaping our laws and public policy here. But really, who cares about them? You care about coffee. The coffee is standard SB fare as are the pastries. And there's a good selection of tables for quick out-of-the-office meetings.

    (3)

Tried the new pastries from La Boulange after seeing the flyer on Monday. Got the blueberry scone and the chocolate croissant. Croissant warmed up was passable but chewy and oily. Scone was horribly dry and had few blueberries. Mainly dry crumbles. Also everything seems smaller and more expensive? Have to try more soon but sad my old reliable pastries are gone

I've been for the longest time meaning to write this review. I work downtown, and this is my to-go-to Starbucks location. I try to only go once a week but my experiences here are always pleasant. CUSTOMER SERVICE: The mornings at this location are pretty busy, but nothing their efficient staff can't handle. RAY makes awesome drinks and along with PAUL is supper friendly. These two truly know how to make someones day, as if remembering my name isn't enough, when I came in on my b-day Paul wished me a happy b-day and sweetly drew a cake on my complimentary drink, a great way to start my day! The afternoons are not too crowded and the staff at this time seems to be chill but still helpful. Thumbs up for their customer service! DRINKS: My favorite drink will always be the Mocha with soy milk but to cut costs and calories my new favorite drink is a grande pike roast with steamed soy milk (and a packet of splenda) which comes out to be $2.05 with my rewards card, it's a win-win! ATMOSPHERE: This location is well-maintained, they have free wi-fi and have plenty seating. REWARDS CARD: Grab a gift card, register it online, load it, then start using it!!!! If you frequent Starbucks more than twice a month a rewards card is a must. Ok so at first I was so apprehensive to getting it... mainly because I was too lazy to register it online but once I did, it was totally worth it. Besides my free b-day drink I now get free soy milk! The more you use it the more rewards you get.

1.16.13 At one point in my life I was a Starbucks addict...a result of my desperate want to be a "Gold card member". Forget the perks of having it, I just wanted the darn Gold colored Starbucks card haha :) For those of you who haven't heard of this before, if you have received or purchased a Starbucks gift card go register it online! By doing so your purchases will be tracked (how often you visit, nothing super creepy) and you can accumulate stars (1 per visit). After 15 stars you'll reach the Green card staus; all that happens is you get a few perks on purchases (sorry I don't know them off the top of my head). Once you've collected 30 in a year time frame you've achieved Gold status and Starbucks will send you a personalized card in the mail! To remain at this level you need to maintain the same amount of visits within the next year, etc. ...but if you don't you still get to keep the card ;) your status will just change on the card. I know, 30 visits = lots of money...luckily for me I found a relatively cheap fav to get me to the 30. To make a long story short I LOVE Panera's iced green tea and I searched high and low for a suitable replacement here at home...Starbucks is the closest alternative in my opinion. So my usual order is a Venti Iced Green Tea, sweetened of course and its only $2.57. This has to be my fav location in downtown not only for its convenience but also because of the people! The staff is always, always friendly even in the early morning when the line is crazy and people are anxious to get to work. Despite the busy atmosphere the employees are efficient and sometimes one of the guys even busts out in song--he should really try out for American Idol! While I have gotten a few wrong orders, I can't complain because the workers are nice and they generally do their job well. So if you've been turned off by some of the other locations in downtown, come join the party over here on Alakea! Yelp 365 Challenge: #016/365
