i was blown away on my lunch at popeyes today. i was a manager at a high paced restaurant, and now running a business, so i'm a little experienced in customer service. When i go to a fast food place, I don't expect great customer service, but popeyes on Dillingham has a great staff and not only great hot food, the customer service is outstanding. so this is what happened. i ordered my food, the cashier which i don't remember her name, was very personable. so from my first contact, i was already impressed. now i get my food and walk over to the seating area. there is not one open table. so i decide to just stand and wait for a table, even though i was in a rush, couldn't do anything but wait. now here is where the customer service just blew me away. From manager to the old filipino lady wiping the tables, they just did the right thing and made a regular joe like me feel like a rock star. the old filipino lady wiping the tables, i think her name was Zaida, walked up to me and told me that a couple tables should be opening up and she was sorry i had to wait for a seat. after a minute of waiting, the girl behind the counter named Janelle, asked me if i was waiting around for someone or just a seat. when i said a seat, she immediately came over to the seating area and looked around for me for a seat. not seeing any seat opened, she then asked someone sitting at a four top sitting by himself if it was ok if i joined him and share the table since there are no seats. blown away that she went out of her way to help me find a seat, i was impressed. after i sat down and started eating my food, there was about 10 people who came in waiting in line to order. I then noticed the manager come up and ask a couple people holding tables if they had people ordering food and just waiting for them or were they just sitting there. i was just impressed that they were proactive in making sure everyone there was actually dining and not just taking up space. but he did it in a way not to offend anyone. so that was a big plus to me. I just have to say that not only was the hot food hot and cold drinks cold, they got it down there at popeyes about how to take care of their guests that walk in the door. i will definitely be back again. thank you to the the staff for making my lunch (which i was in a rush for) a very memorable experience.

Normally I don't review fast food chains but the customer service was so good I felt it deserved recognition. We were greeted warmly with smiles and hellos, our food came out fast and it was a good lunch. The dining area was nice and clean. I saw one of the employees take an elder lady's tray to the trash for her and thought that was really nice. I commented to my husband that it's always amazing to me when the customer service is this excellent in a fast food joint when there are choke sit-down restaurants that have awful customer service and you're paying twice the money for your meal. Thank you Popeye's Dillingham!

Their spicy chicken is delicious! Skin is crispy and inside is juicy. Not as juicy as KFC but better tasting. Pricing for their meal deals are reasonable. Dirty rice is an excellent side, mashed potatoes not (too sweet). Service is quick. My go to place for regular fried chicken.

Popeye's, you're delicious. Always be on the lookout for specials and deals posted on the windows/exterior of this place because they don't advertise it at the register or on the menu! There are also coupons circulating in the mail that accompany the MidWeek with great discounts and deals. I loveeeee the chicken here. My son and husband LOVEESSSSS it even more. We always get it spicy because it actually isn't spicy at all. The mashed potatoes on the other hand, yah, kinda spicy. Oh, and the red beans and rice are to die for! It just sucks that the containers are so little so I feel like I have to ration every bite to make it last so I get a bite with every bite of chicken. But WAIT! Who loves McDonald's apple pies??? I don't. Well, I do, just pretty much just the outside. I take out most of the filling--weird, I know. Anyway, you need to TRY POPEYES' APPLE PIE!!! Looks like Mcdonalds' apple pie, but SO, SO, SOOOO DELISH. Seriously, just go and try it, it's only like a dollar or so, what can you lose. Interior is always clean here and it's pretty spacious. My main gripe about this location is the male employees! I mean, they sometimes act like they haven't seen a female before (NOT saying I'm so hot, omg, look at me. But saying they do this to almost EVERY woman under 30 that walks in or goes through the drive-thru, from what I notice!). It reminds me of those wolves in the old-school cartoons. You know, the ones who get all big-eyed, jaw dropping to the floor with drool spilling out? Geez, boys, calm down, we women just want some fried chicken, not sexual harassment!

Popeyes chicken + curry + rice = My new love. Really, there's nothing else I need to say, but just go get some. NOW! Unfortunately, only on the menu in Hawaii, so too bad, mainland peeps.

I have been eating Popeye's food since I was a little kid. It is hands down better than KFC. The chicken is juicy and crispy and the biscuit is yummy (it's very buttery). Regardless, 5 stars all around for Popeye's! Too bad they don't use Popeye's as their mascot anymore.

  • Kelly M.

Sure it's a chain, but it's an honest chain. I like the spicy strips with ranch dipping sauce. No health nuts here. I don't even bother with side dishes.

What can I say about Popeye's except when everything is wrong and hectic with the world, Popeye's chicken can make all better. Its magical. The crispy oily skin is the best. If they sold just the skin like that place out in Kapolei I'd be the first in line. I usually eat my Popeye's in the privacy of my own home, because well I'm usually in a trance when I'm eating it and I go OFF. I mean OFF. I'm so embarrassed to order my food cause I order so much and it's usually JUST me eating it so I have to order 2 drinks so it looks like I'm ordering for a group. Disturbing. Must GETs : Fried Chicken (SPICY), Red beans and rice, biscuits (the salty butter top is lick-able), onion rings ( greasy heaven), and Cajun shrimp. That's my normal order...My routine is to finish off the shrimp before I even reach home. Set my plate up with all the fixins', make a big dipping bowl of hot sauce and go to town. Remove all skin off the chicken and set aside later for dessert, then carefully rip hot juicy pieces of meat and drench in the tangy hot sauce, inhale, and bite. OOOOOHHHHH Yaaaaaahhhhhhhh There is nothing more consistent than Popeye's chicken. Its a guaranteed good time.

Popeye's chicken and biscuits is damn good. I usually get the chicken sandwiches. Their biscuits are bomb too especially with honey and butter. Biscuits with honey and butter man I can get that all day. It's even better with chicken. I prefer crispy chicken. Nothing like some good 'ole fast food southern style like Popeye's. I think they need more of a value menu. You have to be careful and control yourself when eating Popeye's because it can get dirty real fast. The store itself is alright. It reminds me of some McDonalds locations like the one in Pearl Kai and Pearl City. It's semi-spacious with tables and seats. The restroom is alright. It's conveniently located at the Dillingham Shopping Plaza right across from McDonalds and right along by Colburn St. where the gas station and Shopping areas are. It's also right along next to Sizzler. If you are on Dillingham in Kalihi driving up or down, you can't miss it. The staff and customer service is good. They are pretty much on it everytime I go there and order something. The parking is alright. Yelp 365 Challenge #204/365

I was there today to grab lunch and a HUGE RAT ran across the floor behind the counter, startled the workers and then jumped up to three feet high and ran into a corner to hide. Needless to say, i lost my appetite.

Piping hot, juicy, and crispy! The crunch of the seasoned coating (SPICY!), the flow of hot chickeny essence on your tongue, all while you're sitting in a steamy fog of delicious magic. Biscuits are flaky, buttery, and melt in your mouth good! Cool, tangy cole slaw, and flavorful mashed potatoes with Cajun gravy round out the meal... OH HEAVEN.

I was really craving some Popeye's tonight after dinner. We checked the hours (9:30 pm), and we were cutting it close. However, we decided to try and to our surprise, the Drive-Thru was still open :) It was quick, and the chicken and biscuits were still hot when we got home. Score!

Good comfort food, and fast service. But there seems to be ten to many workers there. Like they're starring at you while you eat. But good food and service! Try it!

My hubby's favorite fried chicken place. It's definitely better than KFC and Church's Chicken. I like their mashed potatoes and gravy. Their fried chickens are crispy and fresh. Service is a bit slow there.

Great chicken, but what sets Popeyes apart from their Kentucky counterparts (and that zipcode overpriced place) is their chicken livers. If you've not had battered and deep fried chicken livers you have not lived! If you are even more adventurous they have deep fried chicken gizzards...only for the more advanced miscellaneous chicken parts diners...

I had frequent Popeyes during my stay in California for the past two years. After coming back home and finding out we had a Popeyes here AND near my neighborhood, I just had to check it out. I know my fried chicken... and only Popeyes got it!

  • Amanda Z.

Gpa loves to go to Popeye's every time we take my in-laws to the airport for their flight home. As stated before, I'm not a fried chicken fan, so I always try the different non-fried chicken offerings at Popeye's, and I'm always disappointed. I've tried the popcorn shrimp (mostly batter, with the smallest "shrimp" ever, maybe it's just like mushed up shrimp tasting mystery "meat"), chicken curry with rice (okay), chicken strips (okay), chicken wrap (gross), and chicken nuggets (like a third of the size of a McDonalds nugget, seriously so small it was ridiculous, they should just call it chick nug!). Also, the service is horrendous. They never ever get our order correct. We usually just take what we get b/c it would be so difficult to get them to understand what we ordered in the first place. Unfortunately we will continue to frequent Popeye's...I think next time I will eat before we go!

Popeye's Chicken located in Dillingham Blvd. is the GREATEST! You can just use your IPhone to google their coupons and it's always updated. Their chicken is by far DA BEST! The skin is fried just right and never burnt and the inside is always tender and moist. They BEAT KFC anyday! Keep up the excellent chicken! I'd drive a distance just to go get my chicken at Popeye's! Mmmmmmmmmmmmm, yummy! Simply DA BEST!

  • Kimberly L.

Officially loving it. I think I have come here as many as 3 times in one week--and once twice in the same day! Their fried chicken is far superior to any other fast food fried chicken. And their cajun fries make the combo kill win over any other fries out there! I love the drizzle honey on the always finger lickingly crispingly hottingly deliciously freshly prepared chicken. Their bags say "our chicken has been marinating so long, we'll miss it when it's gone." Not that funny, but you get the idea of the poignant deliciocity --think delicious and idiocy for one deleriously good fast food experience! Okay, so the workers aren't the most "with the program," but the food almost always consistently comes out hotcrispntasty!

Healthy? No Greasy? Yes Tasty? Yes 2 Yes(es) will do for me to be a fervent regular of Popeyes. $1 for a piece of chicken - AND i used their coupons religiously.

Let me start by saying I love Popeye's. I think that they make the best fast food chicken on the island. Having said that, I did see something that was a little disturbing on my last visit there. I ordered all white meat on my chicken order. When I got to my table, I noticed that my order was all dark. I went back to the counter and the clerk apologized and corrected the order. The chicken that I had taken to my table and returned was then placed back on the rack to be served again. Never mind that I might have coughed on it, dropped on the floor, touched it, etc...... Unfortunately that wasn't the first time that I have seen that at that store. The next time that I go, I will be asking them to make it fresh so that I am sure that it hasn't been served to someone already.

With Midweek coupon in hand my coworkers and I walked in to get us some good greasy food.... The coupon I had was for 3 pieces of thigh and a regular white rice or mash potatoes all for only $3.49+tax. Now that's a deal! I got the spicy chicken and cajun mash potatoes. The chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy and greasy on the inside. Just the way it's always been. After 2 pieces I had to remove the skin from the chicken. The oil got the best of me. The skin is the best part but a guy can only take so much. It was a cheap and fast lunch. Healthy? I highly doubt it....

Shhh, can you keep a secret? Popeye's is SO not on my diet plan but I have a weakness for fried chicken, especially Popeye's spicy variety! You could say fried chicken is my Achilles heel. But I also love their mashed potatos with the spicy Cajun gravy, the buttered biscuits, ohhhh my.

  • David G.

You know I still do like this place, but the more I think about it I don't think it is as good as I once proclaimed. Yes, the Chicken is good however the quality is lacking, calorie content is beyond ridiculous and their use of salt is overwhelming! I think it took me a few more times to realize that Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits is good, but is also lacking on many levels.

  • Jennifer C.

I love popeyes! I'd choose them over KFC any day, the chicken is juicy and crisp. Their mashed potatoes are awesome and I absolutely love their biscuits.

  • Mililani M.

Best chicken strips in town and the coleslaw is to die for. However they only get 3 stars because customer service is so bad. There's usually a wait at the drive-thru and they ask you to park and wait. Then you have to check your order, I'm always missing something. Oh...if they had good service I would eat there once a week!

  • sky i.

Popeye's makes the best fried chicken in my opinion...sorry, Colonel Sanders.

    (5)
  • J K.

Awesome chicken, cajun rice, mashed potatoes, fries and biscuit! Cole slaw is okay, but KFC's one is better. The only bad thing about this place is the service. If you drive thru, make sure you repeat your order twice...seriously, do it twice! They missed a lot of things before in my order, so now I have to repeat it twice to them. So far so good!

I was hesitant to write this review even tho' I'm more than familiar with Popeye's b/c who likes to admit they love fried fast food? It's a rare secret indulgence...with dire consequences. My personal trainer has more work to do, I feel guilty, and it's a downhill slide as I tend to follow up a meal at Popeye's with a bag of m&m's for dessert. I don't have any right to critique Cajun cooking, so my love of their red beans & rice is at best a rating by an amateur. But their fried chicken is soooo good and I've had lots of fried chicken...and not just from KFC! btw, the best is at Honey's Kettle in SoCal. But for a quick and easy meal of crispy greasy goodness, Popeye's hits the spot. Don't forget to get extra biscuits w/honey. Oh yeah...definitely hits the spot.

Hey Sean: I took a sneak over today. Went drive-thru since it was raining and was too lazy to get out of the car. It was a "test" too, to see how much you were charging for the chicken since I saw the commercial last night on a mainland channel that it was gonna be six pieces for $5.99. Okay, so it was $6.99; not too bad. I was gonna just test out the service and food but thought that I could always save the rest for later (even if it won't stay too crispy, huh?). Looks like it won't last too long, my pup is whacking the meat I'm picking off for her as fast as I can pick it. Didn't get to the sides of biscuits and cole slaw yet, but it looks delish. The lady at the window was pleasant enough, though a bit rushed. It would have been nice to have packaged honey and some butter with the biscuits though; that would have been prime. Oh, and perhaps several more napkins; for that box of eight pieces of chicken, cole slaw (no fork), six biscuits (no butter, no honey), a large Dr. Pepper...I got three napkins. Um, kinda not enough, especially with the six pieces of chicken being so absolutely drippy-oily good Kinda good thing I brought the package home where you can drip on your shirt and nobody gives a hoot. Well, finally made it over! Told ya I'd make it over one day..

What is P.L.K.E.D.? Answer: It's a real medical condition. P.L.K.E.D - Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen Eating Disorder is a common eating affliction affecting one out of eight people living in the Honolulu, Pearl Harbor, Mililani, Waipahu and Kapahulu areas. Although the cause of P.L.K.E.D. is not specifically unknown; the following are believed to play roles in a person developing this condition. It is believed that certain combinations of Cajun spices; the type of cooking oil and temperature; the length of time cooking; the inviting color and crispiness of the skin; the moist and tender meat of Popeyes Chicken causes the frontal cortex of the brain and underlaying temporal lobe to be highly stimulated through the cerebrum's neural circuitry. Chemical and electrical signals flash through the interconnected neurons like lightning bolts that supercharge and arouse a persons emotions; sending feeling of gratification, motivation and craving. This stimulation triggers manifestations that alter decision making related to impulse control and judgment. The end result: The dysfunctional pursuit of this particular type of fried chicken and foods for no rational reason. Studies show that Popeye's Cajun spices cause the frontal, temporal and parietal lobes to biologically and behaviorally response to external cues that cause uncontrollable cravings and desires in the same way that a person becomes addicted to sex, alcohol and drugs. P.L.K.E.D. is an addiction. To many, it contributes to the appearance of symptoms characteristic of some kind of bio-psycho-socio-spiritual enslavement. What are the symptoms of P.L.K.E.D.? 1. Your mouth waters when you see the Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen sign, when in actuality, you were on your way to the Burger King on Dillingham. 2. You become confused and disoriented and have this uncontrollable urge to turn your car around and steer into the Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen drive-thru and order a 16 piece, Spicy Bonafide Chicken Meal and a side order of Spicy Chicken Gizzards. 3. You get extremely agitated when you place your order and the person on the speaker says "Please drive forward!" You yell into the speaker: "Hey fella! Make it quick! My name is Val and I got P.L.K.E.D.!" 4. When you drive out of the drive-thru you turn right on Dillingham; roll down the passenger side window; pass the Burger King and shout "I decided to have it my way! ...I LOVE ME SOME C-H-I-C-K-E-N!!!" 5. You pass the McDonald's, which is on the left; roll down the driver side window; boogie in the drivers seat and shout "I'm lov'in it! ..See yah la-thu McAlliga-thu!" A half-mile down the road you pass the Jack-in-the-Box near King. You roll down the passenger side window and shout! "Don't bother making it cause I ain't ordering it! .....Spicy Bonafide Chicken and Gizzard! Eat your heart out Jack!!" You pass the Jolibee's on the left; roll down the driver side window and shout "Ah Sus!! ...Winner, Winner, I'm point to my Popeye's Chicken Dinner!" People with P.L.K.E.D. can be very obnoxious. I admit; I have P.L.K.E.D. My P.L.K.E.D. started because of Popeye's Spicy Chicken Gizzards. I love chicken gizzards. Popeye's Chicken Gizzards are different from Korean bar chicken gizzards and Side Street Inn chicken gizzards. They're soft, easy to eat chewy and at $4.99 a box: Really cheap! Where else can you find fried chicken gizzards for $4.99? Sometime I have a craving for liver. Popeye's sells mild and spicy Chicken Liver for $4.49. Where else will you find fried chicken liver for $4.49? I have P.L.K.E.D. because Popeye's is the personification of efficiency, cleanliness and service; and a model of what all fast food restaurants should be. What impresses me is that there are between twelve and fifteen employees working behind the counter during most of the day and night. Their efficiency arouses my emotions; send feeling of gratification, motivation and craving through my brain. I have P.L.K.E.D. because sometimes I'm not really that hungry and when at the drive-thru window and ready to order, I'm thinking: "Two piece Spicy Bonafide Chicken Meal" but my mouth blurts, "16 piece Spicy Bonafide Chicken meal and a side order Spicy Chicken Gizzards." I have P.L.K.E.D. and sometimes I do some very peculiar things. One time my precious friends from the mainland came for a visit. I pick them up at their hotel. I ask them where they wanted to go for lunch? They say Nico's Pier 38! They said they heard many great things about Nico's Pier 38. I say: "Good choice"! I drop them off in front of Nico's. I tell them that I would pick them up in an hour. They looked surprised and confused. I drive on down to the Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen on Dillingham for lunch; which is about a half mile away. I order the Spicy Chicken Gizzards. As I'm eating my chicken gizzards I smile and think of my dear friends eating at Nico's Pier 38 ....My name is Val Y. and I have P.L.K.E.D. See above.

Absolutely horrible food. I paid $20 for crap. I know it's fast food but I shouldn't get food that looks and tastes like it's three days old. The chicken breast was dry and HARD! The food use to be good but it's steadily has gotten worst. The quality of food is a reflection of how much the people who make it care.

"Love that chicken from Popeye's" That jingle has been around for several years and has many people, including myself, sinking my teeth into their spicy, juicy fried chicken. We adore, er, love their fried, spicy seasoned, crisp-skinned chicken and their Cajun-inspired sides. Their service moves like a well-oiled machine from order to pickup as we've never had to wait more than a few minutes to get our order and they're accurately completed, too! They're really good at getting out individual to large bucket orders. On several Holidays, we have ordered their seasoned fried turkey dinners (to supplement the rest of our spread) and have always been pleased. Everything is in the box...you get a fully cooked turkey and two large sides and biscuits. Easy, peasey all you need to do is heat up the fried turkey as instructed and voilà, a juicy-to-moist seasoned through bird will be on your table. The only warning I have is.. Have patience! Learn to wait a few minutes before biting into their GB&D fried chicken goodness, else wise you'll risk having your mouth burned from the hot frying oil! Ow.

We don't come here often. In fact, I think the last time we were here was several years ago. Typically, when we're craving fried chicken, we head to Safeway (can't beat their $5 Friday specials). But today we decided to try Popeye's and it was a nice change. The service was fast (drive-thru), the chicken was moist on the inside and crispy on the outside, with a hint of spice. Don't think we'll become regulars, but it's a nice option if you want it.

The chicken is good but the customer service needs MAJOR improvement. The coupons that come in the midweek is misleading for certain ones. Always check your order before leaving because they most times mess things up. THEY MUST BE DEAF OR CANT READ IF YOU CANT PACK THINGS CORRECTLY!!!!!!

Haven't been to this location in a while to buy gizzards because the last time I was there, the order looked so small it was pathetic. I was disappointed so I weighed the order - 4 ounces! Today, since I was in the area, I thought I'd give it another try. Not wanting to be disappointed on the small portion, I ordered 2 orders of the mild gizzards. I was pleasantly surprised with the quantity received! One order is supposed to be 12 pieces. The box was filled with various sizes of gizzards weighing 8.5 ounces (box included). The cashier and the runner to my car were both very pleasant - something that doesn't always happen. Great job today Popeye's. I'll be back soon!

Fried Chicken heaven! It's been a while, but I haven't had a piece of fried chicken in so long. Yes, it's a dietary shift that could be the end of me, but I couldn't really resist coming here, especially after so many marathons and half marathons already tucked under my belt. Guess you could say I have earned that right to let loose and party it up, but then again, my bliss happens in the form of chocolate and ice cream. So why am I here? It is Something different and daringly nutritionally dangerous. Still, it was cool to try new places, even if its a chain restaurant and the offerings here were just in deep fried grease and comfort food for the masses. Clearly, its one of many food options I don't consider on a daily basis, but once in a long while is okay. The overall experience is that of any fast food joint: order, wait, receive, eat, and get on with your day. The reason why I chose Popeye's versus Kentucky Fried Chicken (its main rival) was that of the fact that it was "Louisiana" based cuisine. Knowing that I had been to Baton Rouge and Lafayette earlier this year in 2014 reminded me to see what kind of southern deep fried goodness was here. Granted that it wasn't nearly as good as southern cuisine in the deep south, this place is as good as any, at a comfortable price. This Popeyes location has the hallmarks of any fast food giant, McDonald's and Burger King, notwithstanding. There were a few people ahead of me when I walked in on a recent weekday evening. The service was quick as you expected it to be and you got your meal within minutes of ordering. This Popeyes location is located on 1505 Dilingham Blvd at the Dilingham Plaza in the heart of Kalihi, next to the Burger King. There is private parking here due to the shopping complex, although it is limited. Best bet is to park here and don't sweat the small stuff. Many bus routes come through here, mainly, 9, 42, 52, 62, among others, so that's always good to pick up and go, if you are like me. Popeyes, like most major retailers out there, take credit cards and cash. Many of the combos here start at $6. While it would be amazing to buy a bucket of fried chicken and eat it all in one sitting, I opted for the 2 piece meal with side and a drink. A sensible meal that won't undue much of the hard work on the roads and at the gym that I am used to. I ultimately chose the seafood po boy with cajun french fries. I didn't get any soda, since it was already pricey to begin with and it was already a meal in itself. While the Louisiana theme got me here, it probably would draw me back here just because I am starting to love southern cuisine - at an affordable price point. Still fried food ain't the best option, but it surely is a tasty option! The shrimp po boy could have been better, since I had the authentic stuff in Lafayette, LA and in Haleiwa @ Dat Cajun Guy. It was all manufactured and not made with love, like small business owners can give. The cajun fries were pretty good. Plenty of spice for your buck. Support local! B-

Good for fast food. The chicken is the bomb. So crispy and yummy. Love the fries and a good deal.

Never tried Popeyes before but I'm so glad I did! This particular location was easy to locate and their service was quick and friendly. Their chicken is on point and love their biscuits, highly recommended.

Popeye the sailor man! Now why in the world is this place called Popeyes? No spinach, no olive oil... But food is great here, the chicken is moist with a nice little spice if you order the spicy. The sides are all very good and the biscuits are perfect. The sweet tea hits the spot on our hot Hawaiian days. I love this place, a million employees, thank you owner for helping to keep our unemployment rate down. The workers are all friendly and working hard. The place is always clean. I'll keep coming back, now you try and judge for yourself.

I kind of want to give this place 4...but I guess I still remember the days when you could get 12 pieces for $10...I probably like this chicken better than KFC...but I do like KFC...it is just that I have to see a really good special posted on the windows to get me to stop at both places...it puzzles me as to why I see this Popeyes at $$ and others at $...they have the same prices...it is a $$ place in my mind....

Sometimes when you grow up eating a certain something all the time as a kid, when you get to be an adult, you kinda get tired of eating it, and would not touch it at all.......I feel like this sometimes with certain types of foods, but one thing I've never got tired of eating is...................... "POPEYE'S FRIED CHICKEN!". What can I say about Popeyes............it is by far 1000% times better than KFC! I think the only other fried chicken chain that can give Popeyes their run for the money is Pioneer Chicken! Well, they now call it "Pioneer Take Out", but unfortunately Pioneer Chicken is no longer in Hawaii, you can only get it in Los Angeles. I surely miss that "Hawaiian Sauce" that they give with the Pioneer Chicken. Ummmmmm nom, nom, nom, nom! Well, going back to Popeyes.................The chicken they serve is moist & juicy on the inside, golden crispy on the outside! You have a choice of spicy or mild...........I always get the spicy. :) There are also delicious sides like their heart clogging biscuits, corn on the cobb, their Cajan mash potatoes, coleslaw, & dirty rice. Fast & Friendly service.........what more can you ask for! The prices are very reasonable. There is always great deals, & coupons in the mail (if you look for the flyers). Open soda fountain so it's all you can drink, & lots of parking too!

Service was good (the tall guy with the tattoos) had friendly service. Shows that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. Didn't expect good service since it was busy. But my dine in experience went well. Our food tasted good & fresh. Usually fast food you can taste the "pre-made" cooked fried foods, but not tonight. The manager named Alana gave me good service when I had to do a return because my partner was not satisfied with the gizzards that night. Ordered: - popcorn shrimp - Popeyes chicken

Though the food is good, customer service is not. Last week, I went through the drive-thru and ordered a large popcorn shrimp and a 12-piece meal, which includes 2 large sides and 6 biscuits. It came out to $42 and some change. When I paid at the window, the cashier told me to park my car in the lot and they'll find me when my order was ready. My kids and I waited for about 10 minutes before our food arrived. When it did, I drove straight home in traffic as it was during the afternoon rush hour. It took about an hour to get home. When, we got home, the kids got ready for me to take them to the pool (it's open in the evening on certain days) while I unpacked the food onto the table so we could eat it for dinner when we return home (my husband would warm it up for us when he got home from work while we're at the pool). However, when I opened the package and started bringing boxes out onto the table, I realized it was the wrong items. I called the store immediately, asked to speak to the manager and explained what had happened. At this point, I was still calm and not angry as I used to work at a fast-food restaurant when I was younger and can sympathize when a wrong order gets sent out. The manager told me that I could bring the food back and they'll replace it with my correct order. I said I'd drive back with the food, but I needed to know that I'd be compensated as it all ready took me an hour to get home and will probably take me an hour to drive back because it was still during peak traffic time and another hour to go home again. So, he says, we'll work it out when I get there. Then, I said I'm not driving all the way there in traffic if I don't know what I'm getting. I told him I didn't want to waste my time, money and gas unless I knew it was worth it. Here's where it starts to get sticky. He said in a sassy tone, "I can give you a 10-percent discount." Then, I said, "it's not enough." Then he goes, "Well, it's all I'm authorized to give you." Then, I said, "No, it's not!" And, I added that I also was told to park my car and waited 10 minutes for my order and that a receipt with my correct order was taped onto the bag with the wrong order inside, so there should be no excuse why I have to drive all the way back there to pick up my order again. At this point, I was getting annoyed with the audacity of the manager. Then, he gave me more sassy attitude and offered to throw in another large order of popcorn shrimp for free on top of the 10-percent discount and started doing mathematical calculations to try to convince me that it was a reasonable offer, but I was all ready insulted with his offer and his attitude. So, I countered with my own attitude and asked him what HIS discount was and that I wanted it. He said that he couldn't do that, but I knew he could. I've seen managers do it before for other unhappy customers. He just didn't want to give up his meal for the night. So, anyway, we go back and forth over the phone for a bit and my kids come to me in the living room from their bedroom looking all dressed and ready to go to the pool and so I tell the manager that it's not worth arguing any more about it and that it's only chicken so I'll take the 10-percent with large shrimp deal he offered in the beginning. At this point, I'm calm again because the kids are there and I proceed to ask for his information so I know who to ask for when I get there and all I hear is "OK, thank you, bye" CLICK. He absolutely hung up the phone on me while I was in the middle of my sentence. Now, I was full-blown mad. I told the kids to go ask their grandma, who lives across the street, if she's willing to go to the pool and watch them. She agrees and so I drop them off to the pool. Then, I call the Popeye's corporate office to file a formal complaint, but explained that I couldn't give them the manager's name because as I was trying to get his information, he had hung up on me. So, they said they'll be in contact and will follow up with me within a week. I, then, drove back to the store to return the food. While driving, I had decided that I was going to go there for a refund, so that's what I asked for when I got there. Instead, Preston, who I now know is the name of the general manager that I spoke to, voided the transaction, which he stated, "It's the same as a refund, but it'll be like it never happened." Then, told me that he needed to keep the receipts for their records. It sounded like he was trying to cover this incident up, so I questioned him and said, "Why can't I have copies of my receipts?" Then, he said, "Why do I need it the transaction has already been voided--you're getting your money back either way?!" I told him, I wanted my copies. He gave it to me and started to make nice and kiss ass, but I wasn't having it. I walked out with my receipts in hand.

Used to love their chicken, but they have false advertising. I must have seen the commercial for the "new" ghost pepper chicken about 1000 times last night while watching TV. So, after work I fight traffic, sit in a long drive thru line only to find out it's "not available in Hawaii." WTF? I left and went to Burger King instead. They may have lost a customer for life. Total BS false advertising!

Love it!! It is a treat for me to go there. I always get the red beans and rice with a biscuit and I am happy with that. But I must always get another meal to take with me since my daughter loves the same meal as mine. I have to go out today, will see if there are any Popeye's on the way.

Mmmmmm chicken. This location is one of the best on island. Aunties up front taking your order are so sweet. They give exceptional customer service every time. Last time they even gave me an extra biscuit with my order :) more biscuits = happiness.

I firmly believe this particular Popeyes location should be the benchmark for all fast food locations across the country. Well maintained, fully staffed with hard working employees, fast, and damn good food. I can't believe how I still think Popeyes has the best fried chicken here in Hawaii. The fried outer layer is so flakey and crispy, the chicken is moist, and the spice level on the spicy pieces are good enough where it doesn't burn and allows you to enjoy the chicken. It is so good that I've visited Popeyes four times in a week once and is the cause of me gaining 3 pounds in one week. Do yourself a favor and just order the spicy pieces and skip the mild ones. Their mashed potatoes and gravy is also very good too. I also like their sweet tea that have available. The best deals at Popeyes has got to be the coupons they have available. Sometimes, they have a mailer with Midweek(the postcard piece) that has a whole selection of coupons. Go nuts with those, as you will save a bunch of money. As I've said earlier, the service is fast. Once you order, you're going to pretty much get your stuff within seconds. With that many workers, I have to give them props on employing that many, and also keeping them all on their toes working hard nonstop.

Whenever I go to town I like to stop at Popeye's for lunch. My brother and I almost always use the drive thru so that's what I'll be reviewing. First off, the drive thru lane is what you'd expect from most fast food joints. Well spaced, no crazy corners. It's very easy to get our Ford Expedition through it with no problems. The menus are well lit and very easy to read. The selection is varied and extremely well priced especially compared to KFC. The workers are simply great. They always get our orders correct and understand us when we speak into the microphone. We've never had long waiting times. Orders are always hot. Drinks are always just right. The food is delicious. It's well worth the drive from Kailua. Great spot for lunch.

Nobody does chicken as much as Popeyes! It's always crunchy, juice, and not as fatty as KFC and other places. The menu board always confuses me, because there are so many items shouting out at you. But I always just go up to the cashier and tell them what I want (i.e. chicken only, chicken plus a side) and they deliver.

4 1/2 stars! The chicken here is consistently delicious and fresh. Not overly greasy like KFC. The spicy chicken has a pretty good kick to it and the chicken skin is always crispy and delicious! Lot of coupons available for family meals, if you read the newspaper. Wish they had more locations throughout the islands!!!

Consistently juicy chicken! I thought KFC had the best fast food fried chicken, but I got some dried up chicken from them so it isn't consistently good. I thought Church's Chicken was juicy, but it didn't have much taste. Popeye's has it all. I love their spicy chicken. It's juicy, it's tasty, and it hits the spot. The mashed potatoes and dirty rice are good sides to get. It's just a shame that it's so far away from where I live and work. I still make a trip here once a month or so to have some great tasting chicken. I would very much like more locations in town. This place is sort of a secret to the masses. I heard my brother, who lives in Seattle, recently rave about the chicken at Popeyes. My co-workers have also found out about this place and speak about it as if it was a rare item to obtain. It is! KFC is like the okay looking girl around the corner, but Popeyes is the girl of your dreams 5 miles away.

I love their chicken. The spicy version is my favorite. The mash potatoes and gravy are great too. I like how they have that little kick to it. After coming here, I never did go back to kfc. This place is a little bit more expensive but way better.

As you walk in the door you hear at least three employees yell "Welcome to Popeye's"! I ate here twice this past week and love it. $8.99 5 piece with 2 sides and 2 biscuits cant be beat anywhere. Chicken is always moist, juicy and crispy with a whole lot of flavor. Their mash and gravy are the best Ive ever tasted.....I totally love it and can eat 5 single servings easily. Biscuits with butter and honey, ends the meal perfectly. The service is fast and meal for 2 under $10 = WIN. Every notice how many employees are working behind the counter.....must be at least 10 and they all seem to like their job!

I've always been a fan of Popeye's, as their chicken is way better than KFC's in my opinion. I had to hold back for several months as I didn't want to be lectured by my PCP with my ongoing high-cholesterol so I had my fix today as I just recently had my blood test. However, my annual physical is on the day after Thanksgiving so we'll see how the cholesterol level is this year... I ended up getting 2 special deals and was amazed the food was packaged just before I was about to sign my credit card slip! They have many employees standing by so the service is outstanding. I would have given them 5-stars but when I got home to check the receipt, I realized I was charged $1 more! Not worth me going back or calling to resolve the issue but here I sit very satisfied with eating yummy fried chicken tonight!

Brought my daughter here for lunch since she had to work in town today. While entering we were immediately greeted by a worker who was just walking pass us, normally when entering other establishments, we would walk by an employee and have never been greeted, much less acknowledge by anyone. Our order taker/cashier also greeted us and thanked us for coming before even taking our order. Wow, I'm impressed. Usually when something like these happens it speaks a lot of how/what management have them to do. When sitting in the dining area I noticed a younger gentleman who appeared to be a managerial personnel speaking with another worker, well, I was right at my observation because, about 15 minutes later he came around checking with other patrons as to how their meals were , along with thanking us for choosing Popeyes. Awesome job by not only having your workers greet and thank the customers but also practicing the same!!!! Another thing that I liked was them coming around with a sample of their newest desert! If ever I'm in the mood for some chicken I'd most definitely stop here!

POPEYES MAKES ME WISH THAT I LIVED IN THE SOUTH. I used to work at a KFC when I was a senior in high school. Smelled their chicken everyday and got to know their entire menu from the countless hours packing food in the back. Let me tell you: Popeyes' food is superior to KFC's in every way. Popeyes is Lousiana-style fried chicken cuisine. I'm not sure if the food I see at Popeyes is really what people in Lousiana eat, but to me, it's very exotic, distinct, and the sides are delicious and unique. The chicken recipe is much more flaky and tastes better than what I've seen at KFC. The only problem I have is the location: Dillingham is just not a fun place to invite your friends to go and meet up for food.

Popeyes is the only place I'll go to for take out chicken. I find Popeyes chicken not as oily as their competitors and I find their chicken to have the perfect crunchiness with the right amount of spices that have me addicted to coming back for more.

It's southern cooking. Not many places to sit because this place is always packed with people. But the chicken beats KFC any day of the week.

It's been said that when a person experiences something positive, they will tell 2-3 people. If it is negative, they will tell 8-10 people. I'm breaking the latter statistic... I am telling only ONE, that being Mr. or Ms. Yelp! When Midweek is delivered a mailing card is required. The publishers sell advertising space on these cards and Popeye's frequently has coupon offers. This week's offer was their Dip'n Chicken with a biscuit, fries, and dipping sauce (they say it's a LARGE) for $4.99. For us, Popeye's is completely out of our way, but it sounded good. I showed the Dip'n Chicken offer when I placed our order and the cashier's exact words were, "No, no more that." I was a bit caught off guard and pointed to the actual offer in case she wasn't sure what I was trying to order. She responded, "no, we don't have that." She then called two other workers over and pointed to the flyer and one of them said, "we don't have that...that's old." I explained that this just came in the mail "today." He said, "no, that's old." As he was talking, he and his fellow workers thought it was funny and was laughing. Then I felt someone tugging on my shirt and when I turned around it was another worker (female) and she said, "we don't have that any more." I was pretty irritated and did not appreciate being pulled at by some young punk. Here's the bottom line...Popeye's on Dillingham did NOT have bad customer service, customer service is apparently void. There is just a big black hole where at least some level of customer service would normally reside. In addition, the item we ordered, their Chicken Ripper was more expensive and not good. I think the biscuit was bigger than the chicken, the fries tasted less than fresh, and everything in the box was tossed around...nothing was organized. Everything just went from bad to stupid! I don't expect awesome customer service, but I definitely didn't expect what I experienced. Do NOT waste your time and money with this sub-par chicken place. Their prices are completely ridiculous! Their regular price for a two piece (leg & thigh) meal is about $7.50. RIDICULOUS! Pass it on!!!

Stopped by yesterday and went through the drive thru. Got my spicy chicken tenders and Cajun fries with a biscuit. I miss the green beans they used to have. But I guess it wasn't popular :( I've always loved the chicken there. Well, I love chicken period! But anyway, the Cajun fries were cold and clumpy. Kind of weird. I ordered the catfish sandwich for hubby but turns out they only have pollock. Hubby said it was the best fast food fish sandwich he's had in his life :). Never expected such an enthusiastic response to, " how's your food?" They said the wait would be 5 minutes, I think it came out faster which is a plus!! Friendly service, very pleasant :)

My friend got the idea of eating at Popeyes. I never ate there before and thought maybe I can try it. So just for this place we walked all the way there from Chinatown. It was sweating hot and sunny. A tan is obviously appearing after the long walk. The food kinda disappointed me. I thought the menu would look interesting. But it was the same as KFC or some ordinary fast food. Not very appealing with the menu so I just ordered a fried chicken strip wrap. My wrap looks like a mini size burrito. It wasn't that good. It was a little spicy but not spicy enough for me so I added the packet of hot sauces they gave. My friend got a meal combo. We were both shocked how small the size were. McDonald would have provided a better size and decent price. Sweats and a tan, that was so not worth it. But it was a great workout!

And I thought KFC had the best chicken. I've been eating KFC chicken since I was a child and I remember thinking, "this is the best fried chicken I ever ate!!" Never would I have thought I could find a better fried chicken. Even Zippy's placed second to KFC's spices. People have told me for a while Popeyes chicken was way better but I just couldn't believe or didn't want to believe their opinion. I felt the extra $.75 per piece made it just not worth the money or effort. Boy was I wrong. We were having a last min get together at our house and I needed to bring home something for everyone. Automatically I thought of chicken and realized I would need to go out of my way, during traffic time to get to KFC. But I was in Kalihi and remember seeing a Popeyes around here so decided to go there instead. I've always had my reservations on Popeyes chicken Vs. its price which really bothered me as I walked in. I ordered a bucket and was just glad I didn't have to get the huge meal which was around $40 I think. Half spicy, half regular and I was out the door. The drive home was horrible. I started to get hungry in traffic because the fried chicken smelled great. I wanted so much to reach over and grab a piece out of the bucket and devour it as I drove, but I had roaches in my last car and do my best to not eat in this one. Plus I didn't want to get things oily. When I got home I couldn't help myself and dove in before anyone knew I was home, you snooze you lose, screw the etiquette. I picked a spicy one to try first. Originally I was just going to have one piece, but after my first bite I immediately decided to get some rice knowing I would not stop at one. The chicken was unbelievable. Unlike KFC or Zippy's, the skin was lite, thin and crispy. It also seem to have panko added to the batter. The chicken itself was the most juiciest chicken I had ever tasted. I tried the regular one next. Before I took a bite of the regular, I thought to myself, that first chicken was a fluke being so juicy, guarantee this next one not going to be as juicy. Happy to say I was wrong. They were so good it was hard for me to stop their. Surprisingly I liked the regular over the spicy. The spice in the spicy seem to fight with the flavor of the chicken and change the flavor. Kind of like eating an ultimate cheese burger w/ bacon, for some reason the bacon ruins the burger. I know that sounds weird, bacon ruin a burger but try it. Anyways next time I'll be getting all regular. Parking was not a problem, but they have a drive through if u don't want to get out of the car. For me this was a 5 star chicken. Didn't try the sides, but I don't think people come here for the mashed potatoes. Price was a little more expensive than their competitors but well worth it. Can't wait to come back again.

WELCOME TO POPEYES! The greeting you'll here once you step into the restaurant. Personally I love their chicken, it's crispy, flaky, juicy fried chicken comes in two options... spicy or mild. I choose their fried chicken over KFC any day. They don't just offer fried chicken but they also have popcorn shrimp which is also one of my faves. I prefer to have my popcorn shrimp with BBQ sauce rather than their cocktail sauce. Give it a try...it has a little spice to it. Right now, they are undergoing renovation but they are still open the customer service is friendly and they'll greet you within 30 seconds of setting foot in Popeyes. What I dislike at Popeyes....yes I said that correctly I don't like a few of their menu items such as their mash potatoes and coleslaw. The gravy for their mash potatoes is different and has a Cajun flavor to it. I don't like that, in result I order my mash potatoes plain. The coleslaw is watery and bland and I'm not a fan of that either.

A Friday night dinner request from the boyfriend had me debating between Max's of Manila and Popeyes on the way home. Sadly, Popeyes was a big fail. 17 minutes to get my order? I only placed an order for two combo meals and I can see the chicken ready to go right behind the registers! I'm also super glad I wasn't anyone that was behind me, as the cashiers took forever to call people up to even place their order. I wanted to offer to drag over two chairs for a few elderly ladies one propping herself up with her cane, that were at the front just waiting. Additionally, I didn't receive my sides!!! I live in Pearly City and going back just to get them is so not worth it or an phone call to complain. I guess I should have checked inside of each box for them, but really? After waiting that long all you want to do is leave. If I'm going to wait that long I might as well go to Maxs of Manila for fried chicken!

While at the counter ordering my food, I noticed the 5 steps when taking orders, last step was especially important and I wanted to see if my cashier was going to follow through with it, which was to count me my change, thank me then ask that I return. She gave me my change and receipt, didn't even tell me my order number, then stood there looking at her register sad if I was supposed to know that she was done with my transaction, no thank you uttered, NOTHING! I went there for an order of popcorn shrimp, but then decided to get the new wicked chicken which I regretted right away. The price was very good, $5.99 for a combo, but my food was cold and it didn't taste good at all. I only are the fries and biscuit with my shrimp, I threw away the wicked chicken I don't think I'm ever going back here again, if that Filipino lady continues to run the registers, Id rather take my money elsewhere. Positives: Fries were delicious and crisp as always, biscuits as well. I love that they serve white rice, my son'a choice of starch is always white rice. Staff was pretty fast, we were there during lunch rush hour and we got our food pretty quick

"WHY FIVE STARS FOR A FAST FOOD CHAIN, ALEX?!!" Why are you yelling at me?! Three words: SPICY CHICKEN TENDERS. This is my go-to for mainstream fast-food fried chicken. Forget KFC or even Church's, THIS is where the shizz is at. I was depressed for about 2 years when it seemed as if all Popeye's on the island stopped serving their chicken spicy...but when I meekly asked the drive-thru robot my usual "Can I have it spicy?" in Dillingham Plaza...they said, "Why yes, Alex. Welcome back to happiness." What else makes Popeye's the best? The sides. My absolute favorite fast-food mashed potatoes is Popeye's... it's got a kick to it that can't be matched. Don't forget to try the red beans and rice...it's a yummy good time. And if you love fries...Cajun Fries will make your day. The only downside is the biscuit. It's a good biscuit, but it's got NOTHING on Church's honey-glazed assassins. Oh and only in my past 10 visits have I realized that when I order my spicy chicken strips combo that I should be ordering SWEET TEA to drink. It's not the fanciest sweet tea on Oahu, but it's just another piece of the puzzle to making Popeye's one of the, if not the best overall fast-food chain meal. So, Dillingham Popeye's.... thank you for being you and keeping me fat and happy.

I usually don't review restaurant chains but I think I just reconnected with some good old comfort food. I've been craving some good old fried chicken and I have been looking around for like 3months trying to find some. Other places were good but I have not found anything here as good. Seriously, if you know of anything better, message me and let me know. For the time being, I'm gonna stick with Popeyes. In the midweek there's usually a coupon on the front page; which is great cuz you get 5 pieces of chicken, 2 sides, 2 biscuits, and 2 drinks for around $10. Pretty good deal. The food here is so fatty and tasty. The chicken is crispy, salty, and juicy, the mash potatoes are covered in rich gravy, the cajun fries are super tasty, and the biscuits are buttery goodness. Don't come here if you are on a diet, but if you need some comfort food, this is the place to be.

I love this place. I thought I loved KFC but then just on a whim we decided to try Popeye's simply because of its convenience and I fell in love. This is by far the best place to get fried anything on the island. Forget about the same old fried chicken disappointment you've gotten from KFC for always having to wait - Popeyes will awaken your inner fried chicken cravings and you will be willing to wait for hours for some of their fresh and I mean FRESH friend chicken. Everything about Popeyes is better than KFC - their chicken tastes better, their mashed potatoes taste better, their biscuits and honey taste better - I mean you really can't go wrong. One trip to Popeyes and we were converted. Not only were we converted but we have started to tell other people that they need to eat fried chicken from Popeyes rather than KFC because they have no idea what they are missing. Oh, and one more thing, its cheaper than KFC and you very rarely have to wait. When you order chicken from KFC you always have to wait unless you want the chicken that has been sitting under the heating lamp for the past 6 hours. I highly, highly recommend anyone to try Popeyes chicken and will tell you that once you go to Popeyes you will never go to get fried chicken anywhere else.

Okay, the four stars are just for the chicken and the dirty rice, love this stuff, oh but the chicken has to be of the spicy variety, the plain one is just like any other fried chicken you can get but the spicy is something special. I always seem to get the pieces right out of the fryer as I always seem to burn my mouth but that never stops me from wolfin down the chicken as fast as I can chew, oh yeah the fingers also get burned. But all is forgotten until my next visit. I said the stars are for the food cause the place is kind of sketchy as it seems the homeless use the bathroom every time I'm there but hey I'm there for the chicken and it's the closest Popeyes that I know about. Wish the Keamoku one was still there but that area is kind of sketchy too these days.
