Agree that the layout of this McDonald's restaurant, drive thru, and parking lot need a ton of improvement. Condiments and napkins are strictly doled out rather than "help yourself". Makes it a little inconvenient. Tables and chairs were pretty dirty too. Food tasted OK. P-sausage, rice, and eggs - YUM!

As a McDonald's, it's adequate, but the labyrinth -like seating arrangement is not very good amd makes poor use of the available space. The demise of Waialae Bowl, whose restroom facilities this McD's uses are closed during certain hours the Kahala McDonald's is open, making it inconvenient. The worst feature, IMO, though, is the terrible way traffic is handled at the counter. There's just not enough room for organized lines and customers are constantly having to ask others if they've already ordered or just waiting to pick up their order.

Okay, I went back, even more homeless people than before, so now it's one star. I rather go to starbucks where prices are higher, but no bums hanging around.

A main stay for us over the years, this location has been a place to meet up informally with friends. We have always had good service although during peak rush hours stuff happens, but no more than what I have seen at other fast food locations. The crew members we have dealt with for the most part have been, courteous, attentive and friendly making it a pleasure to have a snack there when the McD cravings set in. But this review is focusing on something I came across last night when we stopped by for a cone to beat the heat: You have to hand it to McDonalds to develop a unique Coke marketing campaign for Hawaii that features a Hawaiian word. Riding on the coat tails of Coca Cola's "share a coke with" personalized name bottles, the special beverage cups are a fun way to enjoy your McDonalds cold drink (especially these hot summer days, August 2015) with that personalized Hawaii touch. The cups use such words as the iconic "Aloha" and "Kupuna" , there are a total of 24 words- 24 cups. Be the first kid on your block to collect them all. They even have pidgin cups which use the words, " Howzit" and "Braddah"- how can you go wrong with that? My only "gripe" is that they are only on paper cups not a more permanent plastic cup which would have been cool to use as a reusable drink cup. Well, no can help, Mother Nature needs help too. A fun way to beat the heat this summer, the cups are available only through the end of August or while supply lasts.

Who reviews a McDonalds? I feel compelled to write about how terrible the set up is to serve customers. Especially in the morning! They have two registers open, but customers form one line. So you have a line if people almost to the door. Customers wait at register until the order is ready. Wouldnt it make sense to have them go to the side and help the next person? No- instead the line grows! Also, the food is already made so dont understand the delay. They need to have district managers come and observe! It might also help to start the secret shopper. As one gentleman said "when they going change the name to slow foods!"

This McDonald's is close to my work so it's perfect for my lunch breaks! It's best to go in because the drive thru line can sometimes be out in the road. Lunch time is busier but you don't have to wait in line that long. The employees are always very helpful and get our order correct for the most part. The food is always fresh !

This location's drive thru is always busy, I was lucky this afternoon, with only 15 mins to get lunch- (Since I have to head to my other job) I actually made it!! I was the 3rd car and everything went smoothly. Placed my order, paid at window 2, and got my food at the 3rd window. The night before, I got the shaken flavored fries for my son. I ate 2 of his fries & he wasn't going to share anymore! so.......... I had to get my own bag today! So bad for me, but I just had to!! I also got a McChicken sandwich, (light mayo, add pickles & jalapeño. (25 cents to add jalapeno) The chicken sandwich was yummy for some reason. The pickles and jalapeño made it yummy!! & the fries, the shaken flavor fries was sooooo good!! They provide a package and seasoning for you to mix the fries. Free seasoning comes in medium and large fries only. Flavors available: Parmesan cheese and zesty ranch. I heard they have a spicy buffalo. ( my coworker mentioned) -will try nexts time. I'm not sure how long they will offer this, but hoping it will be awhile. Wow!! Now me & my son will wanna go back for more!! Great job McDonald's!! You got us addicted!!

What seems to blow my mind is WHY I KEEP COMING BACK? & Then I realize the location is everything! This McDs is located in a professional and rich area so it makes me wonder why some/most of the workers are unprofessional? They are nice at times, yeah but I Came in with my family last week after shopping at the new Ross Dress for Less in the mall, we noticed that they were dancing & screaming. Even the manager. Also, to get to the bathroom, you'd have to go past the workers counter why make a public bathroom for customers located where the employees are working? we can only see how McDs are operating. I could see the process for the drivethru and everything z

Dropped by and Candace was our cashier. Greatly disappointed in the lack of customer service and friendliness here. Not a single smile or any sense of emotion in this cashier. Just a bland monotone "hi" as I walked up to the counter and ordered 2 Oreo mcflurries. She finished and simply stood there holding them without making any eye contact or even saying a single word. Not even a simple thanks or enjoy at all. The mcflurries got us quite quickly as we were the only ones in line although the cups were filled 3/4 of the way with ice cream and the last 1/4 filled with Oreo crumbs. She didn't bother to stir it or blend it like every other mcflurry so we had to stir it ourselves. Other customers received similar treatment, the same monotone voice and lack of friendliness. Worst service I've ever had here.

Homeless haven..... It's 6:30 am and half the customers in the restaurant are obviously homeless. I was also here on Monday and saw an altercation between a senior citizen and a homeless man, but luckily the manager stepped in and took the homeless guy outside. Senior management needs to nip this problem in the bud before it gets out of hand.

There are few times in life where you can get 32 ounces of consistently high quality unsweetened iced tea for just $1. Unlimited refills while you're dining makes it taste even better. You don't usually have to wait too long, which is good for fast food. The place is nice and clean, unlike many other fast good joints. The decor is okay -- nothing to write home about but not bland and boring either.

This past Sat (2/15) morning at 10:30am I ordered a double cheeseburger and got a regular bottom bun, but my top bun was a pancake. It was different. I didn't say anything and ate it.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE you could possibly get. Cashiers are rude, Manager was rude, whole staff was terrible! Cashier Suezy was very rude and disrespectful. Manager Clavia was also very RUDE and does not know how to be a manager. Food takes longer than it should and orders are always wrong. Would give 0 stars if i could. Never coming back here again.

I ordered a large iced tea but the Micronesian cashier gave me an iced coffee instead. I spoke to the manager and got a refund but she was being a bitch about it. Maybe she was pissed at how her life turned out.

They're ok but some times they're not up to date with their toys for happy meal!! :( the drive thru line is sometimes ridiculous but it goes through quick!

This review is for the drive through only.. It's has always been one of the better McDonald's drive throughs that I have gone to,compared to Waiakamilo Mc'Ds,Kam, Shopping Center Mc'Ds to name just a few of them. They are fast and pretty efficient. This branch has Large drink specials on the Weekend and at least I can say the line does normally move pretty fast. Food? What do you expect? It's McDonalds...You Know What Your Getting!!

    (3)
  • Rocky R.

Access to the drive thru is not all that easy and it backs up rather quickly a peak times. Still on early morning departures it is the best place to get a $1 cup of coffee that rivals most of the expensive alternatives. Everything else about it is nothing outside the McDonald's norm.

I know mcdonalds is not a fancy restaurant but I had to write this review about the times I've had horrible customer service here. I have been at the window before for no less than a while minute before the cashier looked up from texting. 3 throat clearings and 2 excuse mes later she finally looked up. More recently I went to get a diet coke and they were out - who runs out of diet? No apology just "oh we don't have that right now." Next

I talked with the property manager and they are waiting for one holdout in the building once the lease expires, McDonald s will be rebuilt. That's why it's old and not being fixed up. The food is McDonald s and the service is inconsistent. I go for the convenience and not for the gourmet cuisine.

Love Kahala, hate Kahala McDonald's! They should have left the Waialae Bowling Alley open and closed those golden arches!! I've never had a good experience there, but today was the kicker. We take the kids to a 7:00am dentist appointment at Kahala Mall and decide that once the flouride timelimit runs out, we stop and have breakfast at the McDonald's drive-thru. Oops. Perhaps the guy who backed his truck in to the right of us while in the drive-thru, dropped an empty dumpster, swapped it out with the full one, and went on his merry way should have been the omen that foretold the experience, kinda like a black cat or backside of a ladder. At any rate, the girl at the first window said 'HERE' when offering my change, and didn't say thank you. I hate when that happens. The girl at the second window double-takes every drink and bag before handing it over, only to miss a bag full of our stuff. I corrected her and noticed her badge said 'crew trainer.' I remember her...she's the same one that screwed our order a few weeks ago. NO WONDER THIS McDONALD'S SUCKS...SHE'S THE TRAINER! For the kicker, everytime I leave that McDonald's, I scrape the bottom of my beautifl 2011 Sienna mini-van. Crap, I'm higher off the ground than most vehicles...what am I doing wrong!? Oh yeah, they put the suger and creamers in my coffee, but not my wife's. Now my wife thinks the 'crew trainer' has a thing for me. Uhhh, no! Go to the Greek restaurant next door instead...they got breakfast and a pretty girl sign-waving their specials!

This place is slow on a Saturday night, but the counter folk seem lethargic, like they didn't want to be there. Picked up dinner here on a quiet night after shopping for stuff at Kahala mall. Used to come here alot back in the 1990's when I was real chunky, but now that I'm wiser, I come here once in a long while for a treat or two to reward self for a healthy lifestyle. This location is kinda good for people who go to the mall for shopping. Plenty of parking, although the McDonald's has its own private lot anyway. Right next to the what used to be a bowling alley, I used to hang out at the bowling alley alot. Nowadays, this place kinda blows, but the food here still rolls out by the masses. Like the credit card scanners though. Helps with the cash situation when you don't normally go to the ATM on a regular basis.

I was really surprised that this McDonalds had such bad reviews, but now that I think about it, there are a lot of downsides to this otherwise pretty standard McDonalds. 1) The drive through line is always so long, like out onto the street long. I don't think its McDonalds' fault, I just think it is a pretty popular location. 2) There are noticeably more homeless people who come to this McDonalds.... There are also lots of cute old people though :) 3) The order counter IS awk! It happened today, there are just a bunch of people kinda crowded together....you don't know if they're waiting to order or waiting to get their food. 4) I don't think the layout is too bad.....the bathroom situation is pretty junk though now that waialae bowl is closed :( 5) They used to have napkins and ketchup dispensers across from the cash registers.....but I guess that was making the line confusion even more confusing. Too bad.... At every McDonalds I have been to recently, I have had communication issues with the cashiers......today included. I might have to learn filipino so that I can keep going to McDonalds in Hawaii.

  • Kimi L.

The reason why I'm giving 3 stars and not more is because for some reason they always end up messing up our order. Putting sauce on a plain burger, forgetting our sauce for the nuggets, etc. But it gets a 3 star because you can't beat their Quarter Pounder with cheese, nuggets and sundaes. Mmm!

    (3)
  • Sara Y.

Because of the location, you would think that there is better service here. I don't know if it's because I've gone to the drive-thru on a couple of occasions late at night, but the service was horrible. On one of the occasions, I didn't get the correct change back, and it wasn't wrong by just a couple of cents...On another occasion, our order was totally wrong after we paid for it. We got 4 apple slices instead of 4 apple pies, and a chocolate sundae instead of a strawberry sundae... -_- Other than that, the drive-thru is always busy during the lunch rush hour, with cars lined up on the street. Maybe going to this McDonald's is better in the day than in the night?

Like the mcdouble without cheese I can share with my bouda. Drive thru is too long and if you order more then three items they screw the order up. But you get what you pay for.

McDonald's is McDonald's. Food is comfort food and service is touch and go. I've always had good customer service at the drive through. Once I was even given a free cup of iced coffee because they got an order mixed up and the previous customer didn't want the coffee. Instead of throwing it away...heck, they gave me a free cup of joe. Can't get any better than that. But, I can imagine that other customer being ticked off about the order mix up. Oh well. Even at 6:00 in the morning when I grab my breakfast before going to work, I'm greeted with a smile. Maybe inside the store is another story. I rarely go into the McDonald's to order.

  • Just B.

I hate this location. They're slow, the workers are small kind not-too-bright, and they've made me wait in the parking lot how many times already. No matter what I order, it's always "sir, can you please wait in the parking lot?" even if I'm just ordering cookies and fries! The last time they made me wait, I parked way at the end of their parking lot. After a while I called the location and asked where my food was. The cashier came out and loudly complained "ho, why you park so far ah? I neva see you" - this sounds mean, but they're never nice about me having to wait and after the third time in a row of going there and having to wait, I was a bit peeved. Now I just don't go to this location. I know I can't expect too much from McDonald's but they should really hire workers who can at least speak English properly.

I got food poisoning from here. And I know it's from here because that day, all I ate was food from here. It was the banana apple pie and some other thing. Maybe fries. I forget. But I ended up going to the ER, TWICE. Yes, TWICE just because of this damn place. I'm never ever going to eat at a McDonalds again. I wouldn't want to go through that terrible experience of crap coming out of both ends....yes, that was pretty gross....and a zillion pokes because the nurses couldn't get my IV started. BLAH!!!

When the bill was $1.05 and I gave you $1.25, you should've given me change. Two dimes, to be exact-o. My dear, Esmerelda (I swear that was the name on her name tag) you failed the "giving change" portion of the test. You're fired. Hot Fudge Sundae **** yum! (you still failed.)
