It's McDonald's! You will get either good workers or workers that don't like their job. Which yay I got happy kinda fast workers. I just had to grab some food before we boarded. The cashier was cool and fast. But I guess the cooks where trying their best since it was really busy. It was busy inside and also the drive thru. Food was fresh and they had the smurfs that I didn't have. Great stuff. I love the haupia pie here. ($1.00)

It's cheap and it's easy. And I'm not just talking about the nearby prostitutes to be found under the Nimitz Highway. No, there's more then one place in Kalihi where you can buy questionable meat goods: and that's at your friendly McDonald's. This location is pretty much your average run-of-the-mill, with only a few exceptions: There are two stories to this fast food joint, and it even has an elevator for those who are too morbidly obese to climb the spiral staircase. Even if you're too fat to climb, you can still sit in the comfortable air conditioning to stuff your face with all that greasy, fatty goodness. The upstairs does smell like an outhouse from time to time, and the seats have an uncomfortably-good, just-slept-in warmth to them which most guests find inviting and cozy. Getting your order correct 100% of the time is pretty much never going to happen, so you might as well accept it. Also, this is a great place to remind yourself why it's a bad idea to do meth!

went through the drive through at 230 today. the car line was already long. It took 15 minutes to get to get to the order window, 5 more minutes to get to pay and another 5 to get my food. I really should have taken my time and double checked what i got. I WAS SHORT 2 meals. I had to go back, my everyone's food got COLD and the many only said I'm sorry. With gas prices now days....that was simply not acceptable. I ate at another location and they messed up on my order. They gave me a $10 gift card!!!! Shame on them. Not even a free drink.

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! Guys!! REALLY?! Take some Febreze to the smell in the stairwell!! And put a fricken jackson chameleon upstairs to eat up all the flies!!

looking for a quick hit, quick stop, instant satisfaction. check, check, check. just wish the others going thru drive-thru would be just as courteous as the workers here!

  • Koji H.

Slow service. They flipped the menu to lunch by the time I got to order. Slow slow slow slow service. 15 mins to just put in an order at the drive thru

  • April K.

Do not come here at night because they only take cash only. Also, they are so fucking slow!!!!!!!! Get your shit together or don't even be open at all.

  • Iris J.

This place is ridiculously slow with service. There seems to be no sense of urgency which becomes so irritating. Worse location on the island and this issue is unacceptable so should be corrected immediately.

Quick and courteous service tonight! Ordered the chicken tenders for the first time. Hot and yummy! Hubby wanted coffee - smartest money-making thing that McDonalds ever did - offer espresso drinks! I mean many, many people are at McDonalds grabbing a bite, might as well grab a McCafe too!!! Only comment - if the sauce I am asking for will cost me extra, please tell me. I know it's only 25 cents, but it would really be appreciated.

See my check-in. This place is horrible. The layout is horrible, the staff was fighting, food was taking forever, my order was wrong, I wasn't offered a refund for food I didn't get it.

This place is right on Nimitz and can get busy, but even if it's not busy it always feels like foreva to get my food.

I don't want to say I frequent here but when I want McDonald's, this would be the nearest location to my home. I don't always do dine in either, almost always the drive thru, just for desserts, but it was a couple nights ago that told me maybe I shouldn't dine in here ever again. It was 11:30pm and my girlfriend and I wanted a quick dinner. Decided to walk half a mile here since it was pretty last minute and we got off a far bus stop. When we get there were no one on the registers and there was this employee mopping the dining room floor, which happened to be the only registrar at the moment. We walk in and we were quickly demanded of what we wanted. No hi or welcome. It was straight to, "whatchu guys want?!" "Oh is that it? C'mon." I know I didn't know what I want but my girlfriend did and so she ordered. I took a while but when i was ready she was far off into the dining room still mopping. Thank goodness the manager walked pass and finished our order. It gets better when we get our food... Upon receiving our meal to dine in, my girlfriend grabs our tray and asks nicely to that lady if we could sit. While still mopping, she shakes her head refusing our request. The upstairs dining room is closed so we had no where to sit. Again the manager swings by and gives us the window seat. Our shoes aren't clean, well for sure my pair was not. I was tracking footsteps and i could here the employee grumbling, and then she began tossing the yellow caution cones that signals wet floors. My girlfriend and I were quiet. I didn't want to say anything anymore and we just tried to enjoy our meal. Other people walked in and her aggravation minimized. I was looking forward to purchasing a cone to finish my meal but when I saw her back on the register, I changed my mind. Definitely the worst employee I have ever come across. Customer satisfaction is the heart of many redraurants. This lady had no respect for her customers. If McDonald's ever reads this review, please, have that lady fired. Your location is in jeopardy.

The way they prioritize thier orders are not very efficient. Waited 15 minutes in the dining area!! Management needs to train thier employees better..unacceptable.

  • Jaime R.

Absolutely horrible service!! Was standing here for 30 min before our order was even taken! How does that even happen!!!!

  • Jonathan M.

Poor service...they got my order wrong....and they gave me 1sauce for a 20 PC nuggets...i come here almost everyday and it happens every so often small kind of things but this was the worst...I waited at the second drive through window for a while to the point where I waited for a while and cars honking behind me

newly remodeled and I like the dual drive-thru lanes. Same old McD's fare

  • Mr. Sonoma S.

Its mcdonalds....so what do you expect? The only thing that you can really comment on is the speed, freshness and staff. Speed: slow. Honestly this is the second slowest drive thru ive ever been in, the worst being the Pearl City mcdonalds. It wasnt even that busy but it took me nearly 30 minutes to get from the order speaker to the window! Freshness: luckily the food here is usually pretty good.....i do recall several times getting rock hard stale fries, some black lettuce in my salads and some stale buns.... Staff: ....not bad, but not great. Theyre fairly friendly here but in all honesty some people here arent very friendly and they just shove the food right at you! 2 stars!

    (2)
  • Jed A.

The remodel looks great and the drive thru now has two lanes. Very grateful for this as I work in the area and it can take forever to get through the drive thru during the lunch hour. Everything is very clean and modern. Food is just like every mcdonalds, sometimes the staff here are more interested in talking to each other and sometimes let multiple customers line up before they start taking orders.

Free wifi, but no power plugs for the laptops. Great place to stop when waiting for rush hour to clear. Food is good. Service is good.

My husband and I went to this location for breakfast on a Friday morning. We had a coupon to buy one breakfast sandwich and get one free. We placed our order which took awhile and we were already late for work. The girl wasn't sure how to enter the code in the register and asked for help. We must have repeated the order a few times. We just wanted 2 sandwiches and 2 iced coffees. We paid and reviewed the receipt and we ended up paying for 2 meals. I had told the girl we didn't want that but took it anyway. I had completed a survey and stated my concerns. I received a call from the manager Alvin a day later who apologized and told me to come in for 2 free meals. He was so nice and apologetic. He also said he would send me coupons. We have since went in for our free meals and received our coupons. This is great customer service. Thank you Alvin!

I went there on a Sunday morning to order my Caramel Mocha Frappe, size small. They had issue where the machine wasn't dispensing out the caramel. The manager kindly addressed the problem, asked if I would take the Mocha instead and I accepted it. But the surprising and satisfying thing that made my morning was he given me a large size instead of the small. I had to pause for 2 seconds and realize that is GREAT customer service! cheehu!

The local menu has a SPAM, Portuguese Sausage, egg and rice platter for about $5. The 2 pieces of SPAM are exactly what you would expect; the tasty treat that has been fried and placed in a warmer. I guess it is what it is; does SPAM ever get more limp than when it is originally fried? The Portuguese sausage was bland and not the typical delicious flavor you get on the island. The eggs were formed and firm. The rice was 2 HUGE scoops on the platter. Don't ask to substitute a biscuit for the rice; no substitutions please. All in all for my $5 I was satisfied with the opportunity to try the local fare.

Being that I am a former McDonald's employee during my high school years, there was one thing that has stuck with me till now...customer service. I am big on customer service and I will like to give one clap and a standing ovation to Luke at this McDonald's location! This young man did NOT mumble in the drive thru intercom, he was also very polite. If he did not understand what I ordered, he did not say "HUH?" like the other McDonald's team at other locations would say. He actually said, "Excuse me?" He also repeated what you ordered even though it is on the screen. He then shared the total amount. All this with a nice, very pleasant attitude. My drive-thru service? In and out within five minutes. How do you like that? This is what I learned in training back in the days....Five minutes for each customer in drive-thru. And the Sand Island McDonald's location came through on making sure we were there within five minutes! Thank you for my plain quarter pounder with cheese!!!

So this is probably one of the most preferable McDonald's for me because it is 2 stories tall. I know a friend who comes here a lot for late night studying and stuff. It is pretty good for meetings and stuff. It is open late almost daily till about midnight. Free WiFi is always da bomb. There is sufficient parking. Any McDonalds which you can serve your own self with it's soda dispenser is awesome. I think they still have the dollar any size drink special which is true winnahz. The front of the store in the first floor has limited seating so I can see way they have an upper floor. They have one drive thru. Love the dollar menu. There's also an elevator to go up to the 2nd floor which is pretty cool especially for those in need. Yelp 365 Challenge #08/365

Slowest drive through I've been through since moving here. Seriously. Ridiculous. Wouldn't recommend it unless this is your idea of a good time.

  • Cy K.

Not sure if it's because this McDonald's is near an industrial area, but they're always busy! It's in a pretty good location. Near the airport and the industrial/warehouses. They have two stories. The first level is small, but the upstairs is pretty spacious and has an Island theme. The drive thru line as always long, and service is slow. But I gotta say, they have somewhat good customer service. The old ladies to me seem the most joyful. It's so cute. They do get my order right when I modify it, so that's good for me! :) (if my order is wrong I make a big deal) haha..

  • Don D.

Had a REALLY early morning and went through the drive through at about 4:30am. When you get up early, and youre not used to it, the thing you dont want is an angry lady at the speakerbox or rude service. On todays visit, it was the total opposite. The filipino ladies at the counter were very pleasant. Greeted us with a "good morning" in a pleasant tone and they made it sincere. It was a great way to start the day. Oh, and the food was enough to get the day going!

Haven't been to McD's in a long time because there's so many other places I'd rather go, so I haven't been to one in the US for over 5 years. I've only been to ones in Korea, Japan, and Ecuador since then, since you know how McD's in other countries has local variations of the menu. Well...so does McD's Hawaii! It might as well be another country. Haupia pie?? I'm not a big fan of haupia, but that's pretty cool. And Portuguese sausage breakfast! But the main reason I give this McD's a higher rating is because of the remodeling of this particular location. It has the feel of a nicely redesigned cafe, and it's actually *gasp* a kinda cool place to meet up and hang out?? It'll be a while before I would actually admit that. But it's pretty close. Oh...and I'll never be too old for Happy Meals. :D (that's the reason I came here this time...to get the Sanrio watches...)

Lunch time. Drive through before planting myself at my work office. Debating on a cheeseburger, filet o fish, or nuggets??? this place is right across my job. easy for me to get a quick lunch when i need one. drive through was hectic and it took me a while to place my order. but after placing my order...it went by nice and smooth. i ended up getting a filet o fish meal with fruit punch. anyways... they squirted the tarter sauce on so messy and did not put the bun nicely on top. but you know what...i was hungry. oh well. i love mcdonals (which is not the best choice if you want to eat healthy).
