Lots of food for the price. Small place, no bathroom, but still good service and good tasting food. If anything they give you too much, i felt bad wasting a little. Ive had better mac salad too, but everything else was really tasty.

Hole.In.A.Wall. Mark's Drive Inn was just that. The restaurant itself is no bigger than the smallest basement studio apartment in Lower Haight. Floor to ceiling boxes, no restroom, handful of antique red booths that seats 2, we're talking 400 sf, max. However, don't judge the book by its size. After 5 days of eating my way through Honolulu, I found this place on Sunday, 2 hrs before my departure flight. My loco moco was the best I've had in Honolulu - slightly better than Rainbows Drive-Inn. And it was dirt cheap. Note: This place is hard to find, had to make an u-turn into a strip mall parking lot near some mechanic shop.

Customer service is good. You get what asked for. Their portions match the price. They get your meals out fast because most customers come for takeout lunch during the work week. My Gon Lo Mein was cooked fresh and came out fast and delicious. Their menu items are numerous but easy to choose from. I rated 4 stars because because their menu is simple and satisfying.

All I can say is, don't judge the book by its cover. It may be a hole in the wall, but the food is cheap and it's good.

Last weekend I was jonesing for some oyster sauce chicken.........I was making my way to Mililani restaurant when I hit a snag on the freeway. That's when my friend mentioned, "why don't we go to Mark's Drive Inn, instead"? Good idea.........good idea, pulled off the freeway & headed to Mark's for some of my favorite oyster sauce chicken!!!! This dish is always made perfectly! Crispy skin, with the gravy all over...........yet the skin stays crispy! I had my chicken with brown rice, and mac salad (which I did not eat as I hate mayonnaise). My friend ended up getting the garlic fried chicken. I must say the aroma from the garlic fried chicken was heavenly!!!! I tried a piece of my friend's garlic fried chicken and it was AWESOME!!! Nice garlicky taste, and the chicken was boneless, so no bones to deal with. I will have to come back here and get a plate of this the next time!!! Check em' out gang! No can go wrong with this place!

Not sure how this place has a 4 star average because I've eaten here countless times and it's always been barely a 2.2/3 star place for me. Most of these Chinese run plate lunch places are former L&L cooks that open their own place. So you're basically getting L&L food most of the time. With that being said, the food is just so-so when you need a convenient place to stop for a meal in a hurry if you're in the immediate area. So I think I'm being very generous giving them a 3 star rating.

This is my favorite local plate lunch spot!!! FOOD The food always tastes great and you get a lot of it. Every Time there's a potluck party, someone always has a tray of one of Marks dishes. My favorite is the BBQ chicken and katsu combo. My mouth is already watering talking about their food. AMBIENCE Yes the place is tiny but do not let it keep you away. If you can get a seat by all means do it. But I live close by so I usually order my food to go. Very chill, and casual. STAFF Mark and his staff are always friendly. Trust me; we've been ordering food from this place since they opened. PARKING Tons. There are stalls right in front designated for their customers. PRICES Cheap BATHROOM Unfortunately there are none in the establishment. Now that I think of it I believe the closest one is at Jack in the Box.

Marks is on my fav list of all the places I like to eat on island. The food is seriously bomb diggity, it comes out quick and is always piping hot, customer service is always friendly, the prices are to die for and the food...once again the food is FANTASTIC! My favorites: Loco Moco Chicken Katsu (Extra sauce on side please!) Fried chicken wings Garlic Chicken Bbq plate I haven't tried the oyster sauce chicken yet but I plan on it next week ;)

This is my go to place when I can't think of anywhere else to eat. Their prices are reasonable and they give generous portions. They have a great selection of food ranging from BBQ to stir-fry to noodles. Their service is great too; they usually have your food ready within 10 minutes even when it's busy.

  • Éla K.

Everything is bomb! My favorites are the gau gee, garlic chicken, chicken katsu, and the loco loco plate. Always fresh, always piping hot and always delicious.

Ono plates for a great price plus it's in a prim area to get in and get out if u call for take out they are pretty quick about it.

Marks is just one of those spots I got to stop in to when back on Oahu. Everything is awesome and portions are huge!always consistant!!

An unfortunate choice for dinner. We finished a late night shopping stop at Target and decided to eat nearby... plate lunch/chinese sounded like enough variety to satisfy both of us. I was wrong. The bf ordered garlic chicken, which smelled delicious on the way home. But upon getting home, we were disappointed. Nothing special. I got spicy eggplant - chinese style. I didn't think you could mess that up. The eggplant was undercooked and not that tasty. Maybe we ordered the wrong stuff? Who knows. But next time I'm in the area I think I'll pass.

YUCK, wtf is katsu chicken supposed to taste like bc it's what everyone raved about and it was gross no flavor. Won't return

I love this place. I've been eating here since 2002. They can do custom orders too. I love the bitter melon with chicken, hold the rice and mac salad, with a portion of kim chee and sprouts. So ono! The special with chicken katsu and BBQ chicken for $6.75 a great deal. (I've been going here so long; I recalled when the special was $4.75). I also love their cold ginger chicken! Good sized portions and a great value!

  • Mike M.

Mark's drive inn has excellent food and great service. If you're in a rush don't worry the food is ready so fast you'll be wondering if that's your order that came out! Two thumbs up for sure!!!

One of the best bargains around. Lots of food that is tasty and service is fast. Had the oyster sauce chicken on this trip and it was everything I expected. I will order it again and be back.

  • Haunani L.

As you arrive u notices its a small hole in the way place, they are fast and ono. But recently i tried there breaded pork chops it wasnt the best more bread then porkchop. It wasnt that flavorful. But they do have a shrimp in lobster sauce which is really good. The cashier is either the man or lady who run that place it depeds on their day whem they give good or bad custmer service.

This is one of my go to lunch places close to my office in Halawa. It is not the cleanest, it is not the most modern, but the food is good overall and the prices are reasonable. They have both the standard selection of Hawaiian style plate lunches and a number of Chinese dishes. One thing I enjoy is the Special with the Chicken Katsura and BBQ Chicken. It is a lot of good food for the price. The taste is great and fills me up. The Korean vegetables that come with it are a bonus. Recently, I have been coming here on Mondays as I follow a meatless day to start the week. They have two good meatless dishes: the Tofu vegetable soup and the vegetarian stir fry with rice. Both are tasty and come out piping hot. The rest of the Chinese dishes are pretty good, but the bitter melon with been is really good if you are into bitter melon. While I like the sauce for the cold ginger chicken, I think the oyster sauce chicken over noodles is just okay. The Chicken and Corn soup is great when you have cold - just add in a bit of the sriracha that is on the counter to add some spice if you need it. Overall, this is a pretty good place. The only things that I could wish for are a cleaner restaurant and even service from the people at the counter. Usually good, but sometimes a bit rude in a Chinese restaurant way. Overall, they are minor issues, but don't get my five stars.

  • Deter J.

Tiny, hole-in-the-wall place. Surprisingly, there were many Chinese dishes on their menu. But we stuck with local Hawaii dishes, and were very satisfied with Katsu chicken, bbq chicken, shrimp and fish. Inexpensive and the portions were large!

    (5)
  • Mike A.

Not the worst customer service but can be improved. Their phone etiquette sucks!!! Try saying hello, goodbye and most importantly thank you!!! That being said, the food is tasty, portions are huge, mixed plates prices are awesome. Only bad thing I can say about the food is that they regularly over cook the fries....even when you ask them not to.

    (3)
  • K D.

Definitely what you would call "cheap eats!" Prices are reasonable & they really do give big portions. I have tried many dishes here & I have not been disappointed yet. They also prepare your order quickly. I would recommend just ordering take out because the place is really small to dine in. Parking has always been easy to find when we go--a stall right in front of the restaurant. One thing I don't like is that they only accept cash. Other than that, I would recommend this place!

A few of the must tries here are mushroom chicken, eggplant with pork, and Mabo tofu.

  • Rosey R.

Love this place!! Such a great local spot and the food is FANTASTIC!! I love that I can go in and my food come out piping hot and fresh because they JUST made it. You can't go wrong here, I haven't tried the seafood dishes because they aren't my thing but all the chicken dishes are AMAZING!! Loving those fried chicken wings too ;) YUM!! I eat here about 3-4 days a week. Stuff is crazy amazing!

  • Dee K.

Crispy fried chicken $7.00. This is Chinese style fried chicken. Just imagine oyster sauce chicken without the sauce. Has lots of flavor. Good portion size. Comes with rice and mac. Also kim chee and bean sprout. Good cheap eats if your budget is tight.

Marks drive in was fantastic. We had just spent a few hours at the swap meet and we're starving for something good. We were going to settle for Jack in the box but saw a $5 special in the window for marks drive in. My husband got that and I got the sweet and sour chicken. Holy cow. Great prices for the portion sizes for anywhere, let alone Hawaii. The katsu chicken was my favorite, followed by their bbq chicken, and then their sweet and sour chicken. All were awesome though. They even made me like the vegetables. ;) The service was great too. The Mac salad wasn't my favorite, but next time I'll just substitute. The place was clean enough for me, even if it's a wee bit small. I'm very excited about this find! I'm bringing my family back for sure.

  • Reid I.

I like their menu being that it has the regular plate lunch menu but they also have Chinese plate lunches too. Additionally the best part are their combos and specials. I ordered their current special which is Chicken Katsu and BBQ chicken for $6.25. I substituted the rice and mac for french fries which was a $1.00 more. The portions is a good size as I couldn't finish it and will save it for tomorrow's lunch. This is a great deal being that almost all plate lunches now cost in the $7-10 range nowadays (inflation, I guess).

  • Cynthia L.

Love that this place is so close to my house! One of my most favorite plate lunch places. My favorites are the chicken and mushrooms, eggplant with pork and the hamburger steak/chicken katsu combo. They have brown rice available for an extra $.50. You can also substitute the mac salad for bean sprouts or kim chee. Bring cash, they don't take credit cards. I gave this a 4 star because there's limited seating (4 booths and a 6 seat table) and they don't take credit cards.

  • Nanthony N.

I love their fried garlic chicken. It's packed with flavor.. a little on the sweet side but I love it! Whenever I'm on the island, I eat here maybe 3-4 times a week. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are generous (except for seafood dishes, they seem to skimp a bit). I recommend trying menu items that they don't serve at other places because it's all yummy!

Ok if you are looking for a no frills place to eat with great food and a large amount for a low price, this is your place. I ate here for dinner on 3/13/14 and had their BBQ special which came with two chicken breasts, a strip of teriyaki beef and three short ribs, as well as, rice and macaroni salad (I opted for bean sprouts and kimchi). Most locals order take out, however, there is some dining in seating. Just a note this restaurant takes cash, and has a very large selection of dishes available for order. Opened daily 10am -9pm.

Mark's Drive Inn, located in the Stadium Mall Shopping Center on the corner of the building with Pizza Hut and across from Jack in the Box. This place has an array of food options. I would liken it to L & L but not as greasy and full of flavor. The BBQ Chicken is great and it will only set you back about $7.50. If you want the mini version just minus about a $1. Most plates come with 2 scoops of rice and 1 scoop of mac. In some instances, you will get the Korean version with Kim Chee and Bean Sprouts. They are always willing to do substitutions, which is great if you want more mac or maybe brown rice....yes brown rice. Plenty of parking but limited seating. There is only about 4-5 tables that you can actually sit down on. The wait time from order to food arriving is about 5-8 minutes, which is great when you have a limited time frame to eat. Note, catering is also available.

Been coming here for at least 15 years now, since they had an excellent BBQ chicken special that was extremely cheap. They still have that special, albeit the prices are a little higher, but still very cheap. Their plate lunches overall are pretty good. Most are average but there are a few items that are above average and for their prices, it can't be beaten. I love their mix plate, comes with 3 items, hamburger steak, chicken Katsu and BBQ chicken. What makes this place extra special to me is they usually throw in kim chee and bean sprouts (with every plate, even mini plates) in addition to the rice and mac salad. This small addition goes a long way though. Their hamburger steak is solid, one of my favorites (3 patties!) as well as the chicken Katsu, BBQ shortribs, and BBQ chicken. Overall, they have very affordable prices ($5 mini!), nicely sized portions and the food is on par with a lot of other small mom & pop plate lunch places.

I'm sad to see there are some bad reviews on this place. They are cheap, have generous portions, and I really liked the food. I only went here once and ordered 2 different plates: fried garlic chicken and oyster sauce chicken cake noodle. Both were really tasty. This place is definitely not for those on a diet!

  • Ka'awaloa K.

There is a ton of variety, the food is inexpensive, and they give a lot. The taste is average. I love the mochiko chicken, kalbie, and garlic chicken. It is a great take out place for our office.

Good Place. Cheap and generous portions. Their jumbo plate is fulfilling and they have the chicken katsu/BBQ chicken special at a very cheap price.

Food and prices are pretty good. Portion size is OK

  • Dave F.

Good selection of plate lunches and sandwiches here. The service is really fast and the line moves quickly. It gets really busy during lunch but, it's worth the wait. My personal favorite is the katsu curry plate. The portions are large and you'll never walk away hungry!!! The only setback there is the parking. It is downright crowded there. You may have to go around a couple times to find an empty space!!

  • Juan N.

This is another joint I visit often because it's close to where I work. The food is okay but the prices are super cheap! The food is kinda L&L-ish fusioned with chinese. I usually order the wor gau gee mein or crispy gau gee mein because it actually taste pretty good and cheap. My co workers swear by the oyster sauce chicken, I haven't tried it because I generally hate chicken. Another decent dish is their hot and sour soup if you like that kind of thing. The place looks no different to any other plate lunch joint. Kinda dirty and like many other places, I'd hate to see how the kitchen looks like. Come here if you're looking for some cheap eats but don't expect to be blown away.

  • Tim M.

Fried garlic chicken, oh my! They have all the standard plate lunches, plus a variety of Chinese dishes as well. You can also get plate lunch items with noodles, as in bbq chicken with noodles. These are Chinese noodles, not yakisoba or fried saimin. They do a pretty good job and this is a great place to go for a quick lunch.

    (4)
  • Robin K.

The food was good and came out fast! Great local place & very friendly service.

  • Reid H.

This place has (in my opinion) the best mochiko chicken around. It's crispy and tasty, their portions are good, and the prices are quite reasonable. That being said, I've only ever gotten the mochiko chicken, so I can't comment on their other dishes, but I imagine they're pretty tasty as this place is never empty. One thing to note, however, is that they're constantly burning incense, so if you don't like the smell get somebody to get your food for you.

This is my local Chinese/plate lunch place. Over the last year I've eaten here many times and the food quality is pretty consistent. The broccoli beef has good depth of flavor, though the beef is usually a bit tough. The chicken veggie is fair, but will do if you're hungry. The chicken katsu was meh. I have only ordered it once. The last 2 visits I've gone for the Seafood Combo ($8.50): 3 butterfly shrimp, 2 pieces of fried mahi and 2 short ribs. If I judged on the first time, I'd give it a 4/5 as both the quality and quantity were greater (fish and ribs specifically). Rib flavor is good and not too sweet. The fish is good, and not excessively greasy (based on my 2 times) I'll try it again and if anything changes dramatically, I'll update the review. Otherwise I'm satisfied with the place and have no burning need to go anywhere else. If you don't want mac salad they will offer kimchee and beansprouts. (which is what I typically do) Service is solid and I don't usually wait very long: I always get take-out and usually order between 5 and 7pm.

Good little place! Good food and great prices! I had the mini fried garlic chix which felt like a regular size plate, came with mac salad and rice. My dad had the oyster shrimp which seems like he gets it alot since the lady addressed him by name and automatically knew his order. Two thumbs up from me.

Tried the Katsura today real delicious, one of my top 5 fav. They have their own Katsura sauce too

Don't really see what is so great about this place. Ordered mochiko chicken due to prev reviews. Maybe I just don't know good mochiko chicken when I eat it....

My wife and I go to Hawaii regularly, and regularly we stop at Mark's for not only da bes mochiko chicken, but because the husband and wife owners are the definition of Aloha when it comes to service and a smile. The noodle dishes are good, but the real draw is get anything over rice and you will be in Hawaiian heaven. There is a picture of Sam Choy, one of Hawaii's best known chefs, who eats there as well. A perfect place to go after a hard day at Aloha stadium flea market as it is only a few minutes away.

Absolutely love love love their special (bbq chicken and katsu mix plate) mmmmm!! Prices for party platters are a bit much though. Still yet, great food

  • K K.

$5.25 for chicken katsu and bbq chicken? Yep, at Mark's Drive Inn you can get this great deal. It's not a mini plate either. It comes with 2 scoops of rice and 1 scoop of mac salad. It's not out of this world but for the price it gets a solid 3 stars!
